- 0:00of all the sentient species within the
- 0:0240k universe none of them are quite as
- 0:04mysterious or as complex as the necrons
- 0:06now these are beings out of time a
- 0:08species that should have been confined
- 0:10to the grave millions of years ago they
- 0:12are a relic of a horrific time in the
- 0:14universe's history where the entire
- 0:16galaxy was engulfed in the flames of war
- 0:18nowadays the necrons exist as a
- 0:20cautionary tale of what the quest for
- 0:22vengeance and immortality can bring they
- 0:24are an absolutely ancient species the
- 0:26oldest in the galaxy in fact and in the
- 0:28time of flesh and blood nearly 60
- 0:30million years ago they waged an
- 0:32impossible war against god-like species
- 0:34known as the old ones now their hatred
- 0:36of them was so severe that they were
- 0:38willing to sacrifice their very souls to
- 0:40see their enemies eradicated they made
- 0:42deals with terrifying eldritch gods and
- 0:44traded everything for immortality the
- 0:46once proud yet frail necron tier shed
- 0:49their living forms in exchange for the
- 0:51undying metal bodies we know today and
- 0:53although originally betrayed and
- 0:54deceived by those very same gods the
- 0:56necrons would suffer no one above them
- 0:58and turned against their unholy masters
- 1:01shattering and shackling them to their
- 1:02engines of war turning their horrifying
- 1:04destructive abilities against those that
- 1:06would deny them as the masters of the
- 1:08physical universe now these monsters at
- 1:10one point had been successful in
- 1:12conquering nearly the entire galaxy they
- 1:15saw all life as beneath them and preyed
- 1:17on the living feeding them to their gods
- 1:19like livestock and then suddenly they
- 1:22vanished the unstoppable silver tide of
- 1:25death and horror that had enslaved gods
- 1:27and committed a million-year xenocide of
- 1:29unimaginable proportions
- 1:31disappeared without a trace never to be
- 1:33seen again
- 1:34now for millions of years these stories
- 1:36were thought to be no more than a legend
- 1:37a metaphor for the price of vengeance or
- 1:40possibly even just a scary bedtime story
- 1:42that the eldar would tell their children
- 1:44but here in the 41st millennium it has
- 1:46become apparent that these impossible
- 1:48tales were true that the necrons had
- 1:50returned and they had come back to
- 1:51reclaim what was once theirs and
- 1:53eradicate all that stood in their way
- 1:56when the necron tears shed flesh and
- 1:59left death forward nessa creatures
- 2:02we thought of only freedom from fear and
- 2:05making kingdoms that would never die we
- 2:08do not think of what else immortality
- 2:10would entail we thought in terms of wars
- 2:13and destruction in conquest
- 2:16but eternity also requires what you
- 2:18would call
- 2:19[Music]
- 2:20entertainment engage the necrons in
- 2:23battle is to fight death itself their
- 2:25undying legions harness some of the most
- 2:26advanced technology the galaxy has ever
- 2:28seen they are arrogant and soulless and
- 2:30see all organic life is beneath them now
- 2:32to stare into the glowing green eye
- 2:34sockets of the necron is to see eons of
- 2:36hatred made manifest to witness the rise
- 2:39and fall of countless empires and to
- 2:41truly know the bitter price of hatred
- 2:43you would see the futility of struggle
- 2:45how do you kill something that can't die
- 2:47how do you wage war against something
- 2:49that is so more advanced than you then
- 2:50the most powerful weapons you can bring
- 2:52to bear are no better than sticks and
- 2:54stones and how do you prepare for a war
- 2:56that can come from any direction at any
- 2:58moment even from beneath your own feet
- 3:00and what do you do when you realize that
- 3:03everything you've ever thought to be
- 3:04true was a lie that your pathetic view
- 3:07of the superiority of your species and
- 3:09your claim to the universe was built
- 3:11upon nothing more than ignorance and
- 3:13wishful thinking what do you do when the
- 3:15world your people have called home for
- 3:17millions of years the one that birthed
- 3:19your species and whose value cannot be
- 3:21quantified what do you do when you
- 3:23realize your people are nothing more
- 3:25than an infestation a squatter that's
- 3:27overstayed its welcome and what do you
- 3:29do when its true owners return to evict
- 3:32you
- 3:33so if you've ever read anything about
- 3:34the necrons you've probably heard that
- 3:36their planets are normally referred to
- 3:38as tomb worlds but what exactly is a
- 3:39tomb world so you can honestly think of
- 3:41a tomb world as basically a planet-sized
- 3:44crypt an eternal resting place of the
- 3:45necrons each contain deep labyrinthian
- 3:48underground structures that can house
- 3:49millions of them each one locked away in
- 3:51stasis for millions of years although
- 3:53the necrons are sealed away deep in
- 3:54stasis the halls of these structures are
- 3:56actively patrolled by their canopic
- 3:58constructs they maintain and repair the
- 4:00crips and keep everything in working
- 4:01order eagerly awaiting the return of
- 4:03their dormant masters so even though
- 4:05these structures are slumbering they're
- 4:06maintained by incredibly complex ai
- 4:09systems that monitor the necrons and
- 4:10keep the complex safe from intruders
- 4:12these worlds these structures are
- 4:13confined to were once ruled by the
- 4:15necrons during the war in heaven however
- 4:17since these structures have lain dormant
- 4:19for around 60 million years many of them
- 4:20have been colonized by new species you
- 4:22would have no way of knowing that you're
- 4:24on a tomb world until it comes online
- 4:26and the necrons try to remove you the
- 4:28process of which a tomb world can become
- 4:29active are numerous it could be the
- 4:31result of a simple timer going off
- 4:33geological activity that damages the
- 4:35structure or even its ai detecting
- 4:37intrusive life forms within the confines
- 4:39of its halls now it's not uncommon for
- 4:41eccentric and hopeful individuals to end
- 4:43up digging too deep within the surface
- 4:45of their world seeking to mine natural
- 4:47resources only to discover the ancient
- 4:49crypt of the necrons now obviously
- 4:51hindsight is 20 20 here but the correct
- 4:53thing to do would be fill that hole back
- 4:55up and pretend you never saw anything
- 4:58however the greed of sentient species
- 5:00knows no bounds and the promise of
- 5:01ancient alien archaeotect is too
- 5:04tempting to be resisted now this simple
- 5:06act of curiosity is often the catalyst
- 5:08that spells the doom of many a world now
- 5:11however tomb world ends up becoming
- 5:13active when an awakening is triggered
- 5:14it's basically the apocalypse the
- 5:16complex begins to rise from beneath the
- 5:18surface massive earthquakes across the
- 5:20planet devastate the population oceans
- 5:22drain away and lava boils to the surface
- 5:25now amidst the calamity of natural
- 5:26disasters the immortal killing machines
- 5:28begin to claw their way to the surface
- 5:30rising up within the very foundation of
- 5:32their intruders defensible structures
- 5:34quite often this actually resembles
- 5:36something out of an old zombie movie
- 5:38undead robots literally rising from
- 5:39their graves to eradicate the living
- 5:42swarms of alien constructs blotting out
- 5:44the sun and long dead lords rising from
- 5:47their graves to take command of their
- 5:48legions once again in deafening silence
- 5:51they ordered the destruction of the
- 5:52living and a cleansing of the unclean
- 5:55from their sacred world the weapons
- 5:57these creatures wield are unlike
- 5:58anything humanity has ever encountered
- 6:00it is seemingly as advanced as it is
- 6:02ancient mass-produced gauze weaponry
- 6:04that flays skin from the bone and can
- 6:06reduce the target to nothing more than
- 6:08atoms and mere moments even the lowliest
- 6:10of warriors is equipped with advanced
- 6:12targeting arrays that make them
- 6:13devastatingly accurate necron pilots are
- 6:16hardwired into their vehicles their
- 6:18machines basically becoming an extension
- 6:19of themselves and without organic bodies
- 6:22that are subject to the laws of physics
- 6:23they're able to make absolutely
- 6:25impossible maneuvers that would kill a
- 6:27normal flesh and blood pilot the
- 6:29majority of their soldiers are immortal
- 6:30unthinking literal killing machines that
- 6:32seek to purge all life from a world the
- 6:35attacks come with no warning as the
- 6:36world's defenses are quickly overwhelmed
- 6:39all organic life is atomized and the
- 6:40necrons take no prisoners if a species
- 6:43is fast enough to get a distress beacon
- 6:45out the world their allies come to
- 6:46defend will look radically different the
- 6:48architecture of the previous owners has
- 6:50been left in ruins and all that remains
- 6:52of organic life is but dust in the wind
- 6:55instead they find colossal monolithic
- 6:57structures of ancient alien design
- 6:59architecture that hasn't seen the light
- 7:01of a sun in 60 million years they are
- 7:03met with unbelievable resistance from a
- 7:06newly embedded ruler now what makes the
- 7:08necrons particularly dangerous is the
- 7:10fact that they're all basically immortal
- 7:12each one is comprised of a living metal
- 7:14substance known as the necrodermis their
- 7:16bodies can repair themselves from all
- 7:17but the most catastrophic of damage now
- 7:19if the damage is too great to be
- 7:21repaired in the fight itself they can
- 7:23also utilize a phasing technology this
- 7:25teleports the wounded or crippled
- 7:27individual and all of their equipment
- 7:29out of the battle and back to the safety
- 7:30of their tomb world their ability to
- 7:32heal themselves is known as the
- 7:33resurrection protocols and this allows
- 7:35them to take enormous amounts of
- 7:36punishment and heal from practically any
- 7:38injury this makes them incredibly
- 7:40difficult to destroy or even capture we
- 7:42have no way of studying them or their
- 7:44technology we only have first-hand
- 7:46accounts of the worlds they have purged
- 7:48data logs and vox transcripts from the
- 7:50moments of annihilation a warning in the
- 7:52darkness of what is to come and here's
- 7:55the thing about the necrons there are
- 7:56particularly arrogant species they see
- 7:59no difference between the forces of
- 8:00humanity the slaves to chaos or the
- 8:02various alien races that inhabit the
- 8:04galaxy all are vermin and must be purged
- 8:08the galaxy once belonged to the necrons
- 8:10and they've come back to reclaim it
- 8:11their conquest of eradication will never
- 8:13end so long as the living still draw
- 8:16breath within their kingdom now
- 8:17depending on when you started reading
- 8:19about the necrons their lore has
- 8:20actually undergone a couple of different
- 8:22iterations over the years now the old
- 8:24lore basically portrayed the necrons as
- 8:25an unstoppable tide of robot zombies
- 8:28terminators that would appear without
- 8:30warning and purge all life from a planet
- 8:32there was no reasoning with them no
- 8:33communication and they were beyond
- 8:35mysterious we knew practically nothing
- 8:37about them and that was honestly kind of
- 8:40part of their charm they were meant to
- 8:42be this super mysterious and horrifying
- 8:44entity an archetype of terror they
- 8:46existed to demonstrate just how brutal
- 8:48and unforgiving the galaxy truly was
- 8:50that for all of our understanding and
- 8:52all of our knowledge there were things
- 8:54in this universe we couldn't even begin
- 8:55to comprehend that our persistence was
- 8:58ultimately futile and the superiority of
- 9:00mankind nothing but a myth
- 9:03however more recent lore for lack of
- 9:05better words has actually kind of
- 9:06fleshed them out quite a bit giving the
- 9:08necrons a voice and ourselves a deeper
- 9:10insight into what they used to be and
- 9:12what they have become now it was once
- 9:14believed that all necrons lacked any
- 9:16form of consciousness however we know
- 9:18now that basically the more important a
- 9:20necron was in life the more sentients
- 9:22they maintain in their current form this
- 9:24means that necron nobles are incredibly
- 9:25intelligent and fully capable of
- 9:27communication and have their
- 9:28personalities intact their minds are
- 9:30unburdened from the limitations of flesh
- 9:32they are able to process information
- 9:34much quicker than a normal human and
- 9:36have various neural programs that
- 9:37enhance their minds even further now one
- 9:40such cognitive upgrade is known as sub
- 9:42minds a necron lord who has been
- 9:43upgraded with such a thing basically has
- 9:45multiple brains these are often
- 9:47reflections of their own mind but
- 9:49hyper-specialized in certain areas now
- 9:51in the novel the twice dead king the
- 9:52main character altex is equipped with
- 9:54multiple sub minds each a copy of his
- 9:56own yet completely dedicated to one
- 9:58specific aspect of his personality and
- 10:00knowledge in this way he's able to have
- 10:03full and complete dialogues with himself
- 10:05in order to come up with the best
- 10:06possible path of action for any given
- 10:08situation of his multiple sub-minds one
- 10:10is dedicated to war and combat another
- 10:13to politics and another is completely
- 10:15dedicated to zenology so in a sense no
- 10:18matter where he goes he has a team of
- 10:20trained scholars inside his head to help
- 10:22him make decisions and speaking of which
- 10:24let's speak a bit more on nekron
- 10:26dynasties and their nobility now there
- 10:27are many great necron dynasties each led
- 10:29by a different ruling class they all
- 10:31have different wants desires and plans
- 10:34and it's actually really interesting to
- 10:35see them bicker and squabble amongst
- 10:37themselves now despite their background
- 10:39all necrons are a proud people heavily
- 10:41inspired by the ancient egyptian culture
- 10:43of earth now despite their superhuman
- 10:45levels of intellect not all of the
- 10:47necrons made it through the deep sleep
- 10:49with their minds completely intact it is
- 10:51said that a great madness has infected
- 10:53the necron people and many of them have
- 10:55had their minds kind of deteriorated
- 10:57over the years now what that means is
- 10:59unique to the individual but it's not
- 11:01uncommon for a once benevolent lord to
- 11:03become paranoid and hyper-aggressive
- 11:05when he reawakens now when it comes to
- 11:07communication necrons are fully capable
- 11:09of speech but there's no real reason to
- 11:12do this other than out of tradition now
- 11:14most of the time they are basically
- 11:15communicating three form of binary which
- 11:17in addition uses a series of glyphs
- 11:19represented on their bodies now these
- 11:21glyphs give further emphasis to emotion
- 11:24and you can basically think of them like
- 11:25a high form of emoji these can represent
- 11:28happiness sadness anger futility
- 11:31anything you can think of now likewise
- 11:32their ships are often completely
- 11:34uninhabitable by organic life as the
- 11:36necrons have no need for air they are
- 11:38literally floating tombs inhabited only
- 11:40by the dead of all the things the
- 11:42necrons are known for their technology
- 11:44and superior weaponry are probably their
- 11:45number one claim to fame so let's talk a
- 11:47bit more about their weapons of all the
- 11:50weaponry utilized by the necrons none is
- 11:52more iconic or commonplace than that of
- 11:54gauze technology now god's weapons come
- 11:56in many different forms but all of them
- 11:58work by projecting a beam of energy that
- 12:00disrupts and disassembles matter at the
- 12:02molecular level in a practical sense
- 12:04this technology can be used by
- 12:05constructs such as scarabs to
- 12:07disassemble matter into its core
- 12:08components and then use those to
- 12:10reconstruct into something new breaking
- 12:13down rocks to then use those molecules
- 12:15to create something more useful like a
- 12:16bridge or a fortress for example now
- 12:18when utilized as a weapon the gas beam
- 12:21creates a devastating effect on living
- 12:22flesh it basically breaks down the
- 12:24impact site and turns the target into
- 12:26dust the effects of the beam go layer by
- 12:28layer on the target tearing them apart
- 12:30piece by piece
- 12:31needless to say this is a pretty
- 12:33horrific way to go and the gauze
- 12:34weaponry is rightfully feared these
- 12:36weapons can take the form of
- 12:38mass-produced gauze rifles to the
- 12:39massive gauze flux arrays the larger of
- 12:42which can tear apart hordes of infantry
- 12:44in mere moments now another common form
- 12:46of necron weaponry is known as tesla
- 12:48weapons now these firearms fire arcing
- 12:50bolts of lightning that can bounce from
- 12:52target to target increasing in strength
- 12:54every time they jump now if they're
- 12:56allowed to jump too quickly these arcs
- 12:58can become powerful enough to crack
- 12:59concrete now although an interesting
- 13:01fact about them these weapons are
- 13:03normally used more for engaging with a
- 13:05lot of lightly armored foes whereas the
- 13:07gauze weaponry is much better against
- 13:09highly armored targets now particle
- 13:11weapons are completely different from
- 13:12the first two whereas god's weaponry
- 13:14disrupts matter and causes it to break
- 13:16apart a particle weapon basically
- 13:19energizes atoms and causes them to
- 13:20violently be repelled from one another
- 13:23the target literally tearing itself
- 13:24apart now this can render human soldiers
- 13:26into piles of goo or cause tanks to
- 13:29collapse in on themselves as the atoms
- 13:31that held them together are ripped in
- 13:33every direction and finally let's talk
- 13:35about the big guns now these are known
- 13:37as doomsday weapons they are massive
- 13:39hulking death machines that have to be
- 13:40mounted on a stable weapons platform as
- 13:42they are far too large to be wielded by
- 13:44infantry now they use a massive stream
- 13:46of plasma that is focused and projected
- 13:49through a targeting crystal which
- 13:50unleashes a hellish beam of devastating
- 13:52light that eradicates everything in its
- 13:54path now the prey these are used against
- 13:57are far larger and more dangerous than
- 13:59any infantry now some of them are
- 14:00capable of obliterating even the largest
- 14:02of war machines tearing out the heart of
- 14:04an imperial titan and a single shot and
- 14:07in order to not bog this video down by
- 14:09listing literally every type of necron
- 14:11weapon ever documented i'll make a point
- 14:13to mention the most devastating creation
- 14:14in the entire galaxy
- 14:16now it is known as the celestial orry
- 14:19and it's basically a giant holographic
- 14:20map of the milky way now every star
- 14:23every solar system every sector is
- 14:25illuminated within it in precise detail
- 14:28now traditionally this thing is used
- 14:29more like a scrying device as having a
- 14:31map of everything that updates
- 14:33practically in real time is an
- 14:34unbelievably valuable tool however the
- 14:37celestial already harbors a much darker
- 14:39function in that the user can literally
- 14:41select stars within the map and
- 14:43basically tap them out of existence if
- 14:46the user was so inclined he could cause
- 14:48any star in the galaxy to supernova
- 14:51unleashing destruction on a cosmic scale
- 14:53never before seen now how such a
- 14:55creation works is a complete mystery and
- 14:57because this thing is a creation of
- 14:59sheer horrific magnificence the entire
- 15:01auroscar dynasty is sworn to its
- 15:03protection and although many other
- 15:05dynasties or even forces outside of the
- 15:08necrons would love to get their hands on
- 15:09this thing the oriskar dynasty will
- 15:11eternally defend it with their lives
- 15:13seeking counsel with the celestial ory
- 15:15is not something that's out of the
- 15:16question it's just very difficult to do
- 15:19now in the novel the infinite and the
- 15:20divine trezen was able to use this thing
- 15:22to locate a particular device of
- 15:24interest to him however let's just say
- 15:26that the meeting did not go well and
- 15:28he's definitely banned from ever using
- 15:30it again now the reason i bring this
- 15:31thing up is to elaborate on something of
- 15:33critical importance for you to
- 15:35understand just how powerful the necrons
- 15:37once were you see the war in heaven was
- 15:39an event 60 million years ago that saw
- 15:42the entire galaxy engulfed in war
- 15:44every conflict we see in the 41st
- 15:46millennium supposedly pales in
- 15:48comparison to just how horrific this
- 15:50time period was the necrons had created
- 15:52weapons capable of killing gods and
- 15:55after the war had ended the silent king
- 15:57ordered the destruction of all of them
- 15:59seeing no reason for such terrifying
- 16:02weaponry to exist as the cost to the
- 16:04universe would be too great if they ever
- 16:06fell into the wrong hands
- 16:08the celestial orary was allowed to
- 16:10remain functional so if this thing got
- 16:13the pass we can only begin to imagine
- 16:16just how insane the other weapons must
- 16:19have been now despite what we normally
- 16:21see in artwork and on the tabletop game
- 16:23the reality is that most battles take
- 16:26place in the void of space so let's take
- 16:28a moment to talk some more about their
- 16:29ships so much like everything about the
- 16:32necrons the ships they use are
- 16:33incredibly advanced so much so that
- 16:35their technology seems to be more akin
- 16:37to arcane magic than actual science now
- 16:40what we know about them is shockingly
- 16:42very little but we do know that they
- 16:44utilize two main types of systems to
- 16:46achieve faster than light travel the
- 16:48first is what is known as an inertialist
- 16:50drive meaning that somehow they have
- 16:52managed to break the laws of physics and
- 16:54their ships create no inertia meaning
- 16:56that in the vacuum of space they are
- 16:58able to move incredibly quickly possibly
- 17:00on par if not faster than those who
- 17:02utilize the warp to travel now it goes
- 17:04without saying that utilizing something
- 17:06like this is obviously incredibly
- 17:08efficient and practical as warp travel
- 17:10is insanely dangerous now the second
- 17:12thing they use is a system of portals
- 17:14known as dolem gates you see these
- 17:16things allow the necrons to infiltrate
- 17:18the web way which is basically like a
- 17:20network of tunnels that spreads across
- 17:22the known galaxy they exist as basically
- 17:24a pocket dimension between the warp and
- 17:26real space and are traditionally used
- 17:28only by the eldar as anyone who was able
- 17:30to infiltrate them would quickly get
- 17:32lost within their vast labyrinthian
- 17:34network of tunnels now the dolan gates
- 17:36haven't been mentioned in a long time so
- 17:38it's unclear if the necrons still
- 17:39utilize them now even though in the 41st
- 17:41millennium the webway is currently
- 17:43mastered by the eldari it didn't always
- 17:45used to be that way you see it was
- 17:47originally created by the old ones the
- 17:49ancient enemy of the necrons and who
- 17:51they fought during the war in heaven and
- 17:53before the necrons found a way to
- 17:54infiltrate it they were constantly
- 17:56outmaneuvered by the old ones it was the
- 17:58creation of the dolum gates that quickly
- 18:00swung the war in the necrons favor but
- 18:02i'm getting ahead of myself and we'll
- 18:04talk about the war in heaven in a little
- 18:05bit now what's really interesting about
- 18:07their ships is that they have something
- 18:09of an achilles heel you see their
- 18:11technology is unbelievably ridiculous
- 18:13and it can actually prove to be
- 18:14ineffective against the barbaric and
- 18:16primitive technology utilized by the
- 18:18imperium of man in the twice dead king
- 18:20there is a group of necrons that are
- 18:22fleeing from the imperium the torpedoes
- 18:24that mankind utilizes are seen as
- 18:26unbelievably primitive the necrons
- 18:28scoffing that the brutish and
- 18:30uncivilized race of man still fires
- 18:32physical projectiles at their enemies
- 18:35this is seen as incredibly uncouth and
- 18:37boorish that being said the shielding
- 18:39their ships use were created to deflect
- 18:42blows from god weapons energy-based
- 18:45weaponry that could shatter stars they
- 18:47were not designed to protect against the
- 18:49space-faring equivalent of throwing
- 18:50rocks at your enemy now without getting
- 18:52into spoilers this makes the human
- 18:54pursuers in the story incredibly
- 18:56dangerous to the necrons so let's talk a
- 18:58little bit more about how necron society
- 19:00is structured now when it comes to the
- 19:02necron hierarchy each of the tomb worlds
- 19:04is ruled by a singular individual that
- 19:06controls a vast court of nobles now
- 19:08smaller tomb worlds may be ruled by a
- 19:10lord or an overlord whereas larger ones
- 19:13may be governed by what is known as a
- 19:15pharon there are hundreds of necron
- 19:17dynasties some splinters of much larger
- 19:19ones but all with varying cultures and
- 19:21power levels and the largest of which is
- 19:24known as the sawtech dynasty now the
- 19:26slatec dynasty is possibly the most
- 19:28well-known of all necron dynasties
- 19:30they've claimed hundreds of worlds since
- 19:32their time of awakening with more and
- 19:33more of their aligned tomb worlds coming
- 19:35online every day now the satech dynasty
- 19:37is so large and powerful that it dwarfs
- 19:39all others by comparison ruled over by
- 19:42imotec the stormlord the satech dynasty
- 19:44is rigorously militaristic in nature
- 19:46limiting its conquest to not just that
- 19:48of lesser races but also those of rival
- 19:51dynasties they seek to assimilate all
- 19:53necrons under one banner the sautec
- 19:54dynasty wishes to reunite the necron
- 19:56people once again and if this must be
- 19:58done through military conquest then so
- 20:00be it now many lords will bend the need
- 20:02to emotex might before any blows are
- 20:04struck often being highly praised and
- 20:06rewarded for doing so being folded into
- 20:09the ranks of the sawtech is deemed an
- 20:11honorable path to take as the wise
- 20:13ruler's pride was less important than
- 20:15the good of his people this is possibly
- 20:17the best outcome such an individual can
- 20:19hope for as to deny the storm lord's
- 20:21will is to invite an unwinnable war such
- 20:24a dynasty would be absolutely brutalized
- 20:26and inevitably absorbed into the satech
- 20:29legions anyways now despite the vast
- 20:31cultural differences of many of the
- 20:32dynasties there's actually a lot of
- 20:34trends that remain the same within their
- 20:36various royal courts you see each court
- 20:38is made up of a lot of different members
- 20:40each with different backgrounds there
- 20:41are cryptics who are basically like
- 20:43court wizards they're scientists and
- 20:45engineers of the necrons that study many
- 20:47of the arts that were practiced by their
- 20:48ancestors these disciplines include that
- 20:51of biomancy plasmancy and even
- 20:53chronomancy the study of manipulating
- 20:55time now despite their seemingly arcane
- 20:57nature all of these studies of the
- 20:59cryptex are scientific in origin to the
- 21:01casual observer there is little
- 21:03difference between a trained cryptek and
- 21:05a psycher both are able to bend the
- 21:07nature of reality to their whim and
- 21:09unleash devastation upon their enemies
- 21:11now like all necrons the cryptex are
- 21:13beings of the physical universe and thus
- 21:15have no ability to manipulate the warp
- 21:17to do so requires a connection to the
- 21:19immaterium and the necrons do not have
- 21:21souls and thus for lack of better words
- 21:24are basically just engram copies of
- 21:26consciousness they cannot manipulate the
- 21:28immaterium it doesn't change the fact
- 21:30that what they are capable of is truly
- 21:32remarkable a skilled cryptek can bend
- 21:34space and time not to mention keep the
- 21:36ancient machinery of the necrons in
- 21:38working order other members of the court
- 21:40include that of royal wardens and these
- 21:42guys basically act like a hybrid between
- 21:44a lieutenant on the battlefield and a
- 21:46trained diplomat when it comes to war
- 21:48they make excellent lieutenants
- 21:49commanding legions of troops in the name
- 21:51of their king while simultaneously being
- 21:53trained in the art of dialogue and
- 21:55politics they are able to speak for
- 21:57their lord when he isn't present and the
- 21:58rewards for those that demonstrate
- 22:00competence and enacting the will of
- 22:01their king are vast and great whether
- 22:04they be gifted their own tomb world or
- 22:06their own swath of space to rule over is
- 22:08something that many lords strive for the
- 22:10generosity of their king knows no bounds
- 22:12but so does his wrath for those that
- 22:14would fail him you see underneath the
- 22:16lovecraftian horror of the necrons is
- 22:18something much more earthly in nature
- 22:21they are rigid people that adhere to
- 22:22tradition in the strictest of terms
- 22:24these are holdovers from the time of
- 22:26flesh where loyalty to one's king was of
- 22:28incredible importance concepts of
- 22:30subterfuge and going against his orders
- 22:32are unbelievably taboo it's as if the
- 22:35ruler of a dynasty is seen as a living
- 22:37god so to go against his will is out of
- 22:39the question now this leads many nobles
- 22:42to having a sycophantic relationship
- 22:43with their lords doing all they can to
- 22:46seek their favor at the same time a
- 22:48necron king must embody the role of a
- 22:50living god without question to show
- 22:51mercy is to display weakness to his
- 22:53subjects mercy and forgiveness are a
- 22:56sickness that will corrode even the
- 22:58strongest of dynasties a necron ruler
- 23:00must be like a wall that breaks the
- 23:02tides never faltering in his goals or
- 23:04ambitions and although members of his
- 23:06court seldom falter in their loyalty
- 23:08this does not mean treachery cannot come
- 23:09from outside of a court in this sense
- 23:12many nobles are distrusting of outsiders
- 23:14from other dynasties now you see the
- 23:15diversity of the necrons doesn't begin
- 23:17and end within the confines of a dynasty
- 23:19as there are various sub-factions and
- 23:21cults that are spread across all of
- 23:22necron culture
- 23:24now one of which is known as the
- 23:26destroyer cult you see these individuals
- 23:28truly encompass the madness that can
- 23:30infect necrons over time
- 23:32members of the destroyer cult have an
- 23:34absolute disdain for all organic life
- 23:37now necrons in general tend to view
- 23:39humans and other sentient species as
- 23:41unclean lacking the purity of the metal
- 23:43form makes them inherently weak and
- 23:45uncivilized however there is a vastly
- 23:48larger portion of necrons that want to
- 23:50undo what they see as the metal curse
- 23:52hoping to find a way to reverse
- 23:54biotransference the process that turned
- 23:56them into the necrons we know today but
- 23:57we'll cover that shortly it is the
- 23:59belief of these individuals that if they
- 24:01find a suitable host species and clear
- 24:04away all other threats then one day they
- 24:06might find a way to transfer their
- 24:08consciousness into said species and in
- 24:10this way the necrons could pick up where
- 24:12they left off 60 million years ago they
- 24:14would trade away immortality for a
- 24:16normal life the destroyer cult sees this
- 24:19concept as abhorrent they wish to
- 24:22distance themselves from organics as
- 24:23much as possible often contorting and
- 24:26upgrading their own bodies for the sole
- 24:28purpose of being better at killing the
- 24:30destroyers are death incarnate and will
- 24:32often purge entire worlds of every
- 24:34living creature all the way down to
- 24:36microscopic organisms using their
- 24:38god-killing weaponry to boil away oceans
- 24:41and scour the land destroyers can be
- 24:43found throughout necron society but they
- 24:45are often viewed as barbaric and
- 24:47inherently untrustworthy now that being
- 24:49said the destroyers are so good at doing
- 24:52what they do that only the most foolish
- 24:54and arrogant of lords would deny their
- 24:56usefulness destroyers are often taken as
- 24:59auxiliary forces or used as decimating
- 25:01shock troops and despite how they are
- 25:03normally portrayed they do have their
- 25:04own culture and values what compels an
- 25:07individual to become a destroyer is
- 25:09however currently unknown now some
- 25:11believe that it is a curse left over
- 25:13from the shattering of one of the katan
- 25:15a curse that in reality may just be some
- 25:18kind of program buried deep in their
- 25:20neural networks now another slightly
- 25:22more disturbing faction of necrons is
- 25:24known as the flayed ones you see flayed
- 25:26ones are viewed as diseased and twisted
- 25:28individuals they are afflicted with a
- 25:30madness curse known as the flare virus
- 25:32that causes them to slowly go insane
- 25:34over time
- 25:35now once afflicted with the flare virus
- 25:37a necron will begin to crave the taste
- 25:39of flesh now this starts small at first
- 25:42the individual may take a finger or some
- 25:44other grizzly trophy from the
- 25:45battlefield and consume it in secret
- 25:47over time the desire for meat grows
- 25:49stronger and stronger until the
- 25:51individual completely loses himself to
- 25:53their hunger now this can take years to
- 25:55develop some notable individuals holding
- 25:57off their transformation for multiple
- 25:59decades others with less strong wills
- 26:01can lose themselves quite quickly and
- 26:03here's the really sad thing about this
- 26:05the necrons are robots they don't have
- 26:08mouths or any type of digestive system
- 26:10for that matter so an individual
- 26:11afflicted with the curse can often be
- 26:14seen ripping and tearing into piles of
- 26:15bodies trying to shove as much of the
- 26:17meat into their mouths as they can but
- 26:19they don't have mouths they just have a
- 26:21marking on their face plate to show
- 26:22where a mouth once was
- 26:24viscera and gore smearing all over their
- 26:26bodies and dribbling down through their
- 26:28mechanical insides they're like hungry
- 26:31ghosts every day spent in agony their
- 26:33hunger growing deeper and deeper yet
- 26:35they cannot feed now over time their
- 26:38bodies will begin to twist and mutate to
- 26:40better serve them as harvesters of gore
- 26:42their fingers and arms fusing together
- 26:44in long thin scythe-like blades their
- 26:46spines twisting and contorting and their
- 26:48limbs elongating forcing them to
- 26:50permanently be hunched over taking on
- 26:52the appearance of a crouching predator
- 26:54the flayed ones are seen as the lowest
- 26:56form of life within necron society and
- 26:58the idea that any one of them could turn
- 27:00into such a creature is absolutely
- 27:02horrifying worst of all they believe
- 27:05that this curse is contagious
- 27:08when an individual is found to be
- 27:09displaying symptoms of the virus they
- 27:11are often banished either being exiled
- 27:13from their dynasty and sent off into the
- 27:15void of space or more commonly forced to
- 27:18reside deep in the undercroft of their
- 27:19tomb worlds long forgotten dark places
- 27:22where they will be forever alone save
- 27:24for the company of other cursed now over
- 27:27time the flayed ones will develop the
- 27:29ability to tunnel through reality the
- 27:31scent of blood from distant battlefields
- 27:33across the stars drawing them together
- 27:36now necron armies do not traditionally
- 27:37utilize the flayed ones in war more
- 27:40often they materialize seemingly at
- 27:42random at the sights of great battles
- 27:44that the necrons are involved in they
- 27:46rip through a portal into reality and
- 27:48descend on the battlefield like a wave
- 27:49of mechanical zombies come to feast upon
- 27:52the flesh of the living now it was
- 27:54thought for a long time that the flayed
- 27:55ones had no personality that they had
- 27:57completely descended into madness and
- 27:59any semblance of who they once were had
- 28:01been completely lost to history now part
- 28:03of their transformation is the losing of
- 28:05the ability to speak so there was no way
- 28:07to actually communicate with them
- 28:09however recently we've been given a much
- 28:11deeper insight into them and the reality
- 28:13is actually far more depressing than we
- 28:15originally thought you see in the second
- 28:17novel of the twice dead king trilogy it
- 28:19is revealed that the flayed ones still
- 28:21maintain their personalities they are
- 28:23not as insane as we once thought now
- 28:25they communicate through a series of
- 28:27taps tapping their claws out in a binary
- 28:29system to communicate messages those who
- 28:32have been afflicted with a curse no
- 28:33matter what stage they're in can
- 28:34actually understand this as if they were
- 28:36speaking the necrons native language now
- 28:39here's the saddest part you see these
- 28:41long forgotten individuals that have
- 28:42been banished from their dynasties and
- 28:44forced to live in the shadows
- 28:46actually remain some of the most loyal
- 28:48subjects within necron society
- 28:50the protagonist of the story the necron
- 28:52lord olteks ends up having a
- 28:54conversation with one of his friends who
- 28:56has completed his transformation into a
- 28:58flayed one and without getting into
- 28:59spoilers the necron protagonists asked
- 29:01why the flayed ones continuously showed
- 29:03up to help them and the flayed one is
- 29:05deeply saddened by this question and
- 29:07asks him why do you think he implies
- 29:10that despite being banished and despite
- 29:12his people looking upon him as a monster
- 29:14he still has a deep love for his dynasty
- 29:17and no matter what he is still loyal to
- 29:20his king and will show up whenever he
- 29:22needs him now whether this is true or
- 29:25not of all flayed ones or just this
- 29:27particular group is still left unclear
- 29:29but it certainly gives us a new insight
- 29:31into the workings of a particularly
- 29:32mysterious group
- 29:35my people shackled the stars and broke
- 29:37mortality when the species you sprang
- 29:39from had barely left your slime pools
- 29:42all wars burned reality and the dominion
- 29:45of our kings was without limit
- 29:48the ground you tread on is not yours it
- 29:51is ours
- 29:54so how did the necrons get here who were
- 29:56they before they became the undead metal
- 29:58skeletons that we know today
- 30:00now way back in the before times the
- 30:02necrons did not exist but the species
- 30:04that would inevitably become them was
- 30:06known as the necron tear now this was a
- 30:08cursed and frail species that had the
- 30:10unfortunate fate of being born on an
- 30:12uncaring world next to a super
- 30:14radioactive star another planet was
- 30:17barren and hostile to life and the sad
- 30:19truth of the matter was radiation
- 30:20sickness and cancers ran rampant through
- 30:22their society they lived incredibly
- 30:24short lives and their lifespan was
- 30:26filled with pain and suffering now
- 30:27despite the overwhelming odds the necron
- 30:30tear endured they weathered the storm
- 30:32that was their destiny and through some
- 30:33miracle managed to reach the space
- 30:36faring age now the necron tier knew that
- 30:38if they stayed on their world their
- 30:39species would inevitably wither and die
- 30:41as through the generations their species
- 30:43deterioration was getting worse and
- 30:45worse so they built vast ships and set
- 30:48off in every direction desperately
- 30:50trying to find a new place to live so
- 30:52that their children would at least have
- 30:53a chance in this cold hard galaxy that
- 30:56didn't care about them now as luck would
- 30:58have it they did encounter new worlds
- 31:00that were habitable and this inspired a
- 31:02hope that the necron necrontier had
- 31:03never experienced before here was their
- 31:05chance to start again to give their
- 31:08people a real fighting chance
- 31:10however
- 31:11fate is fickle and the curse of their
- 31:13homeworld followed them into the stars
- 31:16now many generations would pass and even
- 31:18though these colonizers were many light
- 31:20years away from their homeworld sun its
- 31:22light cast a far-reaching shadow and the
- 31:24children born of these worlds still
- 31:26displayed signs of radiation sickness no
- 31:29matter how many years passed the new
- 31:31offspring's life expectancy remained the
- 31:33same just because they had escaped their
- 31:35world hadn't meant that they had escaped
- 31:36its curse during this time many new
- 31:39dynasties arose and as luck would have
- 31:40it they would encounter a species known
- 31:42as the old ones and the two of them
- 31:44couldn't be more different from one
- 31:45another the old ones were a race of
- 31:48impossible alien intelligence they were
- 31:50immortal beings that lived in prosperity
- 31:52and were united in the goal of seeding
- 31:54life throughout the universe you see the
- 31:57old ones saw themselves as biological
- 31:59architects guiding the evolution of the
- 32:01galaxy in the right direction they would
- 32:03travel from planet to planet placing the
- 32:05seeds of life upon each new world they
- 32:07discovered now the necron tier saw a
- 32:09great potential in an alliance between
- 32:11the two species and begged them for
- 32:13assistance it was truly an example of
- 32:15the haves and the have-nots the old ones
- 32:17had everything and the necron tier were
- 32:19dying their children were dying their
- 32:22civilization would inevitably collapse
- 32:24and like a gift from the gods suddenly
- 32:26the old ones appeared to them
- 32:28now they begged them to share with them
- 32:30their secrets of immortality they begged
- 32:32them to save their children and above
- 32:34all the rigid and proud necron tear
- 32:37dropped to their knees and begged the
- 32:39strangers for help
- 32:41and in a seeming pattern of misfortune
- 32:44the old ones refused them now the old
- 32:46ones followed a code very similar to the
- 32:48prime directive in star trek choosing
- 32:50not to interfere with the destiny of the
- 32:52civilizations they encountered the
- 32:54necron tier were on their own but they
- 32:56wished them the best of luck something
- 32:58broke in the necron tier that day
- 33:01here were beings capable of anything
- 33:03that lived forever that through no
- 33:05effort could save them and yet they were
- 33:08refused the rage and hatred the
- 33:10necrontier felt for them cannot be
- 33:12understated and with no thought of the
- 33:14seeming impossibility of such an action
- 33:16the necron tier declared war on the old
- 33:19ones as one could expect this would not
- 33:22go well the old ones had no desire to
- 33:24fight them but would defend themselves
- 33:26and they were vastly more advanced than
- 33:28the necron tier time after time defeat
- 33:30after defeat the necrontier were pushed
- 33:32back and crushed against the
- 33:34technological superiority of the old
- 33:36ones
- 33:37now again this was a war that the old
- 33:39ones had no time for and didn't want to
- 33:41be involved in in the first place and at
- 33:43any point would have agreed to peace but
- 33:45the necron tier were relentless in their
- 33:48hatred and the festering need for
- 33:49vengeance was growing deeper and deeper
- 33:51with every defeat now if any good was to
- 33:53have come from this for the necrontier
- 33:55people it was that the united hatred of
- 33:57a singular enemy brought all of the
- 33:59dynasties together which before this
- 34:02wars between them had been rather
- 34:03commonplace now the necrontier were
- 34:06united in their goal of eradicating the
- 34:08old ones however this seemed like
- 34:10nothing more than a dream of revenge
- 34:12never to be brought to fruition that was
- 34:14however until they encountered another
- 34:15species one that rivaled the old ones in
- 34:18power and would prove to be the polar
- 34:20opposite of them a species with no
- 34:22desire to spread life only to consume it
- 34:24ancient beings that had complete mastery
- 34:26over physical reality star gods of
- 34:29devastating and terrifying proportions
- 34:32these entities were known as the katan
- 34:35now how the necrons first made contact
- 34:37with them is still a mystery some say
- 34:39they were encountered by the study of
- 34:41stars well others say the manifestation
- 34:43of the necrontier hatred acted like a
- 34:46beacon to them however it happened their
- 34:48meeting would fundamentally alter the
- 34:50course of history and would give the
- 34:52necrontier people what they were so
- 34:54desperate for
- 34:55power and immortality one of these
- 34:58beings came before the silent king and
- 35:00proposed an alliance he said that they
- 35:02were familiar with the old ones and much
- 35:03like the necrontier they also had a deep
- 35:06hatred for them he spun a tale about how
- 35:08the old ones were their ancient enemies
- 35:10and for the galaxy to prosper they must
- 35:12be purged the reality is that the catan
- 35:15were basically star sucking vampires
- 35:18massive beings of pure energy that would
- 35:20descend upon a star and leech out all of
- 35:22its energy condemning all life in its
- 35:24solar system to death so great was the
- 35:27hunger of the catan that they spread
- 35:29across the galaxy like a swarm of
- 35:30locusts destroying all in their path
- 35:33their existence was antithetical to the
- 35:35mission of the old ones to bring life to
- 35:37the galaxy and thus the old ones
- 35:38declared war on them seeing their
- 35:40existence as nothing short of
- 35:42blasphemous needless to say this was not
- 35:44the story the silent king was told
- 35:46however this great lie would prove to be
- 35:48fitting as that entity's name would
- 35:50later be known as the deceiver so the
- 35:53necron tier would come to accept the
- 35:54deceiver's offer and thus crafted for
- 35:57him and all the other katan bodies of
- 35:59living metal now this was made out of a
- 36:01stuff called necrodermis which was one
- 36:03of the inventions of the necron tier
- 36:04that they used in their starships now
- 36:06this would inevitably be used to
- 36:08construct the metal forms of the necrons
- 36:10we know today but we'll get to that in a
- 36:12minute now before this the catan were
- 36:14basically beings of pure energy and with
- 36:16their newfound bodies they were able to
- 36:18experience the physical universe on a
- 36:20level they never had before now this
- 36:22alliance would prove fruitful for the
- 36:24necron tier as well because the katan
- 36:26gave them remarkable gifts now the
- 36:28powers of these individuals were like
- 36:30that of gods they created for the necron
- 36:33tier weapons and machines that they
- 36:34could only dream of invigorated by their
- 36:36newfound discoveries their lust for war
- 36:39was once again ignited the necron tier
- 36:41were so enraptured by the power of the
- 36:43star gods that they actually began to
- 36:45worship them and this makes sense
- 36:47because from the necron tears
- 36:48perspective the catan were their saviors
- 36:50and through their power would they
- 36:52deliver the wrath of the necrontier
- 36:54people upon all that stood before them
- 36:56the high and mighty old ones who despite
- 36:58their self-proclaimed benevolence
- 37:00condemned their people to a slow and
- 37:02agonizing death and would soon pay for
- 37:04their hubris the combined might of the
- 37:07catan and the necron tier would see
- 37:09their empires burn to ash and the great
- 37:12legacy that they thought to craft for
- 37:14themselves lost to the annals of time
- 37:16all records of them purged from
- 37:18existence so none would remember that
- 37:20such a species ever even existed now the
- 37:23technology level and overall military
- 37:25might of the necron tier skyrocketed
- 37:27practically overnight with the power of
- 37:29the catan and their immensely
- 37:30destructive weapons of war all would bow
- 37:33before the combined might of the gods of
- 37:35the physical universe and their esteemed
- 37:37mortal followers but the catan had made
- 37:40two promises to the necrontier people
- 37:42that of power but also of immortality
- 37:46the next gift that they proposed would
- 37:48rid their people of their frail and
- 37:49sickly forms they would be forever free
- 37:52from disease and suffering the
- 37:54necrontier would become gods in their
- 37:56own right and would build kingdoms that
- 37:58would never die and all it would cost
- 38:00them
- 38:01was their souls
- 38:03monolithic towering furnaces were
- 38:05constructed on every world that would
- 38:07burn away their withered frames and
- 38:09replace it with bodies of living metal
- 38:11the same material that the catan now
- 38:12inhabited now the first to undergo the
- 38:14process of biotransference as it would
- 38:16later be called was none other than the
- 38:18silent king himself now he strode into
- 38:21the furnace and all that he ever was was
- 38:23burned away and replaced with undying
- 38:25metal the process was a success he felt
- 38:28power that no necron tear had ever felt
- 38:30before he was strong vital and his mind
- 38:33was operating faster than he even
- 38:35thought possible but there was something
- 38:37deeply wrong something deep inside him
- 38:39was missing it was like he was looking
- 38:41at the world from behind glass he had
- 38:43newfound power and freedom unlike
- 38:45anything his people had ever experienced
- 38:47before but something was deeply wrong he
- 38:50felt empty and hollow the realization of
- 38:52what he had done and what he had
- 38:54committed his people to slowly dawned on
- 38:56him
- 38:57he had no soul he was now nothing more
- 39:00than an engram copy of consciousness
- 39:02stored on an immortal robot
- 39:05this process would be repeated billions
- 39:06of times over on thousands of worlds his
- 39:09people were plunged into the fires of
- 39:11biotransference their bodies
- 39:13disintegrated and their souls ripped
- 39:14apart by the gorging feasting of the
- 39:16gluttonous catan for you see the catan
- 39:19did in fact wish to provide what they
- 39:20had promised however the energy of sons
- 39:23had long sensed being appealing to them
- 39:25and they instead found newfound joy in
- 39:28feasting on a different energy
- 39:29altogether the souls of the living now
- 39:32some individuals walked into the furnace
- 39:34of their own free will as it was their
- 39:35ruler's will to do so others were
- 39:38dragged in kicking and screaming it
- 39:40mattered not as eventually it was done
- 39:42biotransference of the entire species
- 39:45had been a success
- 39:46and on that day the necrontier
- 39:50died
- 39:51confined to the halls of history another
- 39:53name in the vast book of extinct species
- 39:56and standing amongst their ashes was
- 39:58only the necrons now the deceiver had
- 40:01one final gift for the silent king for
- 40:03of all his desires the mightiest was for
- 40:05his people to be unified i wish that the
- 40:07katan made more possible than anyone
- 40:09could have thought as all of the necrons
- 40:11had installed in them command protocols
- 40:14that meant they could not physically
- 40:15disobey him on one hand the silent king
- 40:17was completely horrified by this he
- 40:19realized the depth of what he had done
- 40:21and in doing such he had doomed his
- 40:23entire species but it is not like the
- 40:26necrons to look back a king does not
- 40:28make mistakes and a king marches forward
- 40:31the silent king controlled the most
- 40:32powerful army the galaxy had ever seen
- 40:35and this army along with its patron gods
- 40:38took to the stars and their mighty
- 40:39tombships to bring a war unlike anything
- 40:42the galaxy had ever seen to their
- 40:44ancient enemies and the empire of the
- 40:46old ones would inevitably burn
- 40:49the combined might of the immortal
- 40:51armies of the necrons and their god-like
- 40:53powers of the catan brought war upon the
- 40:55old ones in their kingdoms for countless
- 40:57millennia eventually pushing the old
- 40:58ones nearly to complete extinction
- 41:01driven by a need for vengeance the
- 41:02necrons burned millions of worlds while
- 41:04the katan feasted on the souls of the
- 41:06living countless lesser races created by
- 41:09the old ones were eradicated by the
- 41:10necrons while their gods gorged on their
- 41:13souls erasing them completely from
- 41:15existence now it was at this time that
- 41:17two major turning points occurred the
- 41:19first was that the catan began to war
- 41:21with each other for dominance over their
- 41:22siblings their hubris was so great that
- 41:25they each thought themselves the
- 41:26mightiest they turned on each other one
- 41:28by one until only a handful were left
- 41:31now the old ones took advantage of this
- 41:32infighting and began to create warrior
- 41:34races now their creations before this
- 41:37point were given the choice to make
- 41:38their own paths and develop in
- 41:40accordance with their own individual
- 41:41destinies however these were incredibly
- 41:43desperate times and races specifically
- 41:46crafted for war were needed the old ones
- 41:48created the orcs and the eldari one
- 41:50massive hulking brutes each bearing the
- 41:52might of an entire army in a single
- 41:54individual the ancient ancestors of the
- 41:56orcs were actually known as the corks
- 41:58and stood around 13 meters tall not to
- 42:00mention it was highly likely that the
- 42:02quarks had a fundamental understanding
- 42:04of their reality bending powers and were
- 42:06able to fully utilize them to great
- 42:08effect the eldari on the other hand were
- 42:10massively powerful psychers and each one
- 42:12had an innate connection to the warp
- 42:14these new races would spread across the
- 42:15galaxy battling and pushing back the
- 42:17necrons wherever they were encountered
- 42:19and as it turns out the powers of the
- 42:20warp were unbelievably effective against
- 42:22the catan you see they were gods of the
- 42:24physical universe and had no link to the
- 42:26immaterium they had no ability to deny
- 42:28such raw and devastating psychic attacks
- 42:31the combined might of the old ones the
- 42:33eldar and the quarks pushed back against
- 42:35the necrons and their sinister masters
- 42:37now this is a time period that is
- 42:38incredibly shrouded in mystery and it's
- 42:40on a scale unlike anything we've ever
- 42:42seen before imagine a singular war that
- 42:45spanned the entirety of the galaxy now
- 42:47the one that we know in the 41st
- 42:48millennium is a galaxy that has millions
- 42:50of wars happening simultaneously but
- 42:52there are vast sectors of space that are
- 42:54seemingly peaceful or are at least
- 42:56removed from the greater conflict this
- 42:57was a battle that raged across all of
- 43:00the stars we can't even really
- 43:01comprehend just how immense it was or
- 43:04how many unique individuals were
- 43:05involved there must have been millions
- 43:07of heroes each with countless war
- 43:09stories that could fill entire libraries
- 43:11now the warhammer universe has around
- 43:12600 novels written so far and this time
- 43:15period could probably have far more than
- 43:17that written about it it was so immense
- 43:19that it is aptly named the war in heaven
- 43:23now at one point during the war the
- 43:24catan tried to push back against the
- 43:26psychic onslaught by creating massive
- 43:28pylons made of blackstone these were
- 43:30constructed on hundreds if not thousands
- 43:32of worlds across the galaxy you see
- 43:34blackstone is a material that cannot be
- 43:35affected by warp sorcery and thus was
- 43:38constructed to try to tamper the enemy's
- 43:39ability to channel it these pylons were
- 43:42used to hold back the warp which before
- 43:44this the sea of souls was actually a
- 43:46pretty tranquil place compared to the
- 43:48warp that we know today in the 41st
- 43:50millennium it was the absolute onslaught
- 43:52of souls pouring into the warp day after
- 43:54day and the unbridled fury and hatred of
- 43:56quintillions of individuals locked in
- 43:59internal conflict that began to make the
- 44:01sea of souls into a roaring male storm
- 44:03the once tranquil denizens of the warp
- 44:06turned into twisted monstrosities its
- 44:08once peaceful tides becoming a twisted
- 44:10chaotic nightmare of pain and suffering
- 44:13the warp became a sick reflection of
- 44:14itself and came to be known as the realm
- 44:17of chaos unfortunately for the old ones
- 44:20a combination of the might of the katan
- 44:22their legions of necron soldiers and the
- 44:24dark and twisted warp manifestations
- 44:26that their own creations had unleashed
- 44:29in the end proved to be too much for
- 44:30even the god-like old ones as their
- 44:33kingdoms burned the old ones disappeared
- 44:35from existence
- 44:36whether or not every one of them met
- 44:37their end during this period or they
- 44:39fled our galaxy it still remains a
- 44:42mystery but the old ones were gone and
- 44:44the necrons had finally achieved their
- 44:46vengeance
- 44:47but this wasn't the end of the war in
- 44:49heaven for you see the entire time the
- 44:51war had been going on the silent king
- 44:53had planned his revenge on a second
- 44:54enemy the catan had lied they had
- 44:56tricked him into betraying his own
- 44:58people and a king lets no slight against
- 45:00his subjects go unanswered zara
- 45:03commanded the necrons to turn on their
- 45:05gods and for all their intelligence and
- 45:07all their power this was something the
- 45:09guitar were incapable of predicting as
- 45:12they were hubris made manifest the very
- 45:14concept that their subjects could rise
- 45:16against them was anathema to them the
- 45:19necrons harnessed weaponry of god
- 45:21killing power and shattered all of the
- 45:23catan into thousands of individual
- 45:25fragments each one was then locked in a
- 45:27tesseract fold so it could never again
- 45:29be free to roam the stars chained
- 45:31forever by those who they once ruled
- 45:33over the fate of the catan was to be
- 45:35eternally shackled to the war machines
- 45:37of the necrons in the far future their
- 45:40essence would be used to bring
- 45:41devastation to distant battlefields but
- 45:43for now
- 45:44they would remain prisoners
- 45:46now after this was done the silent king
- 45:48contemplated what to do next both of his
- 45:51great enemies had been utterly destroyed
- 45:53however the galaxy was in turmoil warp
- 45:55spawn monstrosities known as the
- 45:57enslavers were running rampant
- 45:58throughout the galaxy in addition the
- 46:00eldar had rose to prominence and were
- 46:02incredibly powerful the necrons had been
- 46:04solely focused on wiping out the old
- 46:06ones and it had cost them an enormous
- 46:08portion of their population in their
- 46:10weakened state they had no hope of
- 46:11defeating the eldari and reclaiming the
- 46:13stars with this in mind the silent king
- 46:16ordered the construction of vast tomb
- 46:18complexes on all of their worlds that
- 46:20dug deep within the earth it was there
- 46:22that he ordered his people to rest to
- 46:24sleep for millions of years it was the
- 46:26eldar who would inherit the galaxy and
- 46:28there was nothing they could do to stop
- 46:29this but the necrons know more than
- 46:31anyone else that time is an enemy to all
- 46:34all but the necrons for their immortal
- 46:37forms could never truly die and the
- 46:39eldar empire would rise and fall just as
- 46:41all empires do
- 46:43the silent king set the clock to awaken
- 46:4560 million years in the future to
- 46:46inherit whatever was left of the galaxy
- 46:48the elder would be long dead and
- 46:50whatever new species had crawled its way
- 46:52out of the primordial ooze would not be
- 46:54ready to face the necrons and they would
- 46:56once again take their rightful place as
- 46:58the rulers of the galaxy after all the
- 47:00necrons were locked in stasis the silent
- 47:02king had one thing left to do to atone
- 47:04for his sins he severed the command
- 47:07protocols the will of the necron people
- 47:09would be theirs once again and upon
- 47:11their awakening they would finally be
- 47:13free
- 47:14after doing this he exiled himself he
- 47:16hopped in a ship and took off for the
- 47:18void of space what he hoped to find out
- 47:20there between the stars is known only to
- 47:22him but he vowed to return to see his
- 47:25people as they awoke once more it is now
- 47:27the 41st millennium the alarm clock has
- 47:29finally gone off one by one the
- 47:32surviving tomb worlds are coming back
- 47:33online memories from 60 million years
- 47:36ago still fresh in the minds of the
- 47:37newly awoken overlords now with their
- 47:39free will reestablished the dynasties
- 47:41are no longer united in all things but
- 47:44they do however agree on one that the
- 47:46galaxy belongs only to them and the
- 47:49verminous filth that has come to inhabit
- 47:51it must be completely and utterly
- 47:53eradicated
- 47:57so if you enjoyed this video go ahead

- 48:16i'm still kind of new to doing them i've
- 48:18made about five so far but i'm still
