  1. 0:01okay so this is a tutorial on the
  2. 0:03organization of the neck so I'm going to
  3. 0:06talk a little bit about the an
  4. 0:07anatomical triangles of the neck the
  5. 0:10anterior and posterior triangles and
  6. 0:12then I'll go on to talk about the
  7. 0:13fascial compartments I'll also talk a
  8. 0:15little bit about the different
  9. 0:17structures that pass through the um
  10. 0:20anatomical triangles but I'll go into
  11. 0:22more detail on other tutorials on
  12. 0:24this so we're looking at an anterior
  13. 0:28view of the neck and you can see these
  14. 0:30thin muscles here so this is the platisa
  15. 0:33muscle and this is comp contained in the
  16. 0:36superficial fascia of the neck so I'll
  17. 0:38get rid of these um and show you the
  18. 0:43different
  19. 0:44triangles so if I just zoom in a little
  20. 0:46bit more I've got rid of the platisa
  21. 0:48muscle which lies in The Superficial
  22. 0:51fascia and then you can see this big
  23. 0:53muscle here which
  24. 0:55runs from the mastoid
  25. 0:58process down to attach onto the sternum
  26. 1:02and also onto the clavicle so it's got
  27. 1:04two attachments a sternal and a a
  28. 1:09sternal and a cicular attachment and
  29. 1:11it's also attached to mastoid process up
  30. 1:14here so this is the Sterno clom mastoid
  31. 1:19muscle named because of its um
  32. 1:24attachments so the anterior triangle of
  33. 1:27the neck is defined by a few boundaries
  34. 1:31so the
  35. 1:32inferior border of the mandible forms
  36. 1:36the superior border of the
  37. 1:39triangle the midline forms the medial
  38. 1:43border and the anterior border of the
  39. 1:46stoc clom mastoid muscle forms the
  40. 1:49lateral border of the triangle so the
  41. 1:52triangle is this here the midline
  42. 1:57inferior surface of the mandible
  43. 2:02so you've got the inferior surface of
  44. 2:04the mandible forming the superior border
  45. 2:07you've got the anterior border of the
  46. 2:10stoco
  47. 2:11mastoid forming the lateral border and
  48. 2:15the midline of the neck which
  49. 2:17one's right down here forms the medial
  50. 2:20border so that's the anterior triangle
  51. 2:22of the
  52. 2:23neck so as you can see here there are
  53. 2:26several
  54. 2:28structures which run in the anterior
  55. 2:30triangle of the neck and I won't go into
  56. 2:32huge detail on what these are but I'll
  57. 2:35just quickly go through them so you can
  58. 2:37see these this bone here this is the
  59. 2:39hyid
  60. 2:41bone and this bone is important because
  61. 2:43it forms the attachment for many muscles
  62. 2:47which make up the floor of the mouth and
  63. 2:49it it provides attachment for the tongue
  64. 2:52muscles and it's involved in swallowing
  65. 2:55so this is the H hyoid
  66. 2:58bone muscles above it are called the
  67. 3:01super Hy muscles and these run in the
  68. 3:02anterior triangle and you've got these
  69. 3:05muscles below the H bone so these are
  70. 3:08the infrahyoid
  71. 3:11muscles just these infrahyoid muscles
  72. 3:14are also called strap muscles because of
  73. 3:16their appearance I guess they look like
  74. 3:17a strap so these are the strap
  75. 3:20muscles below the strap muscles we've
  76. 3:23got the thyroid gland we've got the
  77. 3:26larynx here and the track here and we've
  78. 3:29also got the um parathyroid glands
  79. 3:33behind the
  80. 3:36thyroid and then also you've got these
  81. 3:39um vessels which obviously run in the
  82. 3:42anterior triangle so you've got the
  83. 3:43common cored and its branches so the
  84. 3:45external and um internal cored and
  85. 3:49you've got the internal jugular vein
  86. 3:53running through the anterior triangle
  87. 3:54and then you've also got nerves so for
  88. 3:57instance the Vagas nerve and recurrent
  89. 3:58Len Gill nerve run through the anterior
  90. 4:03triangle so that's the anterior triangle
  91. 4:07just to recap it's formed by the
  92. 4:10anterior border of the stoc cloudo
  93. 4:11mastoid the inferior margin of the
  94. 4:14mandible and the midline of the
  95. 4:17neck so the posterior
  96. 4:21triangle lies just behind the anterior
  97. 4:23triangle um and it's formed by the
  98. 4:26posterior border of the stoco mastoid
  99. 4:29the mid middle portion of the clavicle
  100. 4:33and the anterior Board of the trapezius
  101. 4:35muscle so this big this big muscle at
  102. 4:37the back big powerful muscle
  103. 4:44there so the apex of the posterior
  104. 4:47triangle is this bit of occipital bone
  105. 4:50just behind the mastoid process here so
  106. 4:54you can see the triangle formed by the
  107. 4:56anterior margin of the trapezius the
  108. 5:00middle portion of the clavicle and then
  109. 5:03the posterior border of the stocl
  110. 5:06mastoid with this Apex just behind the
  111. 5:09mastoid
  112. 5:13process so again the posterior
  113. 5:18triangle um of the neck contains a lot
  114. 5:20of important structures not going to go
  115. 5:22through all of them but just a few so
