  2. 0:06nasal irrigation irrigations are
  3. 0:09important for your sinus health
  4. 0:11you may be instructed to use irrigations
  5. 0:13if you have sinus disease or recently
  6. 0:15underwent sinus surgery
  7. 0:19first wash your hands with soap and warm
  8. 0:21water before mixing the solution
  9. 0:23and before performing the irrigation
  10. 0:29next mix the neo-med sinus solution
  11. 0:32per the directions provided using
  12. 0:35distilled water
  13. 0:36and the salt and baking soda packets
  14. 0:39usually these irrigations will be
  15. 0:41performed twice a day
  16. 0:43unless instructed otherwise by your
  17. 0:44doctor if you use a nasal steroid or
  18. 0:47other medicated rents you should always
  19. 0:49use the saline rinse before your
  20. 0:51medication
  21. 0:52so you do not rinse out the medication
  22. 0:58you may also make your own saline or
  23. 1:00salt water solution
  24. 1:02to do this add two level teaspoons of
  25. 1:05non-iodized salt
  26. 1:06per quart of distilled water you may
  27. 1:09adjust the amount of salt up to three
  28. 1:11level teaspoons as needed if you
  29. 1:13tolerate it better
  30. 1:14some people prefer to add one level
  31. 1:16teaspoon of baking soda
  32. 1:18or pure bicarbonate to the solution to
  33. 1:21make it less irritating
  34. 1:22this is optional if you have to use tap
  35. 1:26water
  36. 1:26please use the following directions
  37. 1:29bring one quart of tap water to a
  38. 1:31rolling boil
  39. 1:32and pour into a clean jar once it cools
  40. 1:34do not use a hot solution
  41. 1:37you should make fresh solutions for each
  42. 1:39use or store in a refrigerator
  43. 1:41between uses for no longer than one week
  44. 1:46if the water has been in the
  45. 1:47refrigerator you can warm
  46. 1:49the water to room temperature with a
  47. 1:51microwave if preferred
  48. 1:52before mixing do not use a hot solution
  49. 1:57this should be done in short intervals
  50. 1:5910 to 15 seconds at a time
  51. 2:02to perform the irrigation you will want
  52. 2:04to lean your head over a sink
  53. 2:07wash out your nose with half of the
  54. 2:09saline or salt water solution
  55. 2:11on one side and the other half on the
  56. 2:13other side
  57. 2:16be sure to change out the bottle every
  58. 2:18three months and clean the bottle
  59. 2:19regularly
  60. 2:20according to the manufacturer's
  61. 2:22instructions
