NADIE DOBLA A LA IZQUIERDA!!! — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00In this town, no one turns left. For 50
- 0:02years, to go left, cars turn right three
- 0:05times. People always walk in circles to
- 0:07the right. In the museum, left-handed
- 0:09scissors are in a display case. In dance
- 0:11class, you only turn to one side.
- 0:12Left-handed kids write with their right
- 0:14hand, with messy handwriting. The
- 0:15grocery cart has only one wheel, on the
- 0:17right, because they say the streets to
- 0:19the left are always foggy. And from the
- 0:21back, a tall, pale figure in a gray
- 0:23raincoat waves slowly with their left
- 0:25hand, and whoever turns left never
- 0:27returns. We moved in on a Monday and no
- 0:29one warned us. On the first day, I
- 0:31turned left without realizing it. The
- 0:32fog covered my shoes. In the distance,
- 0:34something tall raised its left hand. I
- 0:36ran back. Nothing happened to me, but a
- 0:38neighbor dropped her groceries.
- 0:39>> Did he come back?
- 0:40>> No one had ever returned before. In
- 0:42class, I wrote my name with my left hand
- 0:44. I was left-handed, and no one here
- 0:46knew it. At school, they called me "the
- 0:47lefty." At night, you could hear
- 0:49footsteps coming from the left, stopping
- 0:51at every corner.
- 0:52In the morning, the doors had scratches
- 0:54on the left side, where a lefty would
- 0:55look for the handle, and the baker
- 0:56always looked at an old photo of himself
- 0:58as a boy with his mom.
- 0:59On Thursday, the mailman turned left
- 1:01without looking. The fog swallowed him
- 1:03up. Only his cap was left on the corner
- 1:05. That afternoon, the town surrounded me
- 1:07. In front was the mayor, with his left
- 1:08hand in his pocket.
- 1:09>> Since you arrived, everyone is looking
- 1:11to the left. Tonight, you go alone.
- 1:14>> At midnight, I turned left. The figure
- 1:16approached, tall and pale. It raised its
- 1:18left hand with the baker’s photo.
- 1:20>> Do you know my son?
- 1:22I haven't seen him in 50 years.
- 1:24>> Then I understood: it wasn't a monster,
- 1:26it was a left-handed grandmother. The
- 1:28mayor back then sent all the lefties to
- 1:29live on the other side, and the town
- 1:31invented the monster story so no one
- 1:32would go looking for them. They were
- 1:34pale from so much fog, but healthy. They
- 1:36waved with their left hand because it
- 1:38was their way of saying, "We are here."
- 1:39The mailman was with them, having tea.
- 1:41The law wouldn't let him return. On
- 1:43Sunday, I gathered the marching band,
- 1:44and at the first corner, I turned left.
- 1:46The tuba followed me, then the drums,
- 1:48then the whole town. The fog lifted. On
- 1:50the other side, hundreds of gray
- 1:52raincoats waving with their left hands.
- 1:53The baker saw his mom, and families were
- 1:55reunited once again. Now the dance spins
- 1:57both ways and the cart has all four
- 1:59wheels, and the mayor had to sign the
- 2:00end of the law with his right, it came
- 2:02out a scribble, he took his left hand
- 2:04out of his pocket and signed it
- 2:05perfectly. He was left-handed, he hid it
- 2:07his whole life. 50 years of signing
- 2:09scribbles. Like and subscribe with your
- 2:10left hand.
