My Simple $5,000,000 Meta Ads Testing Strategy (Step-By-Step) — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00What's up guys? It's Nick. Welcome back
- 0:01to another video. I'm going to get
- 0:02straight into it. In this video, I'm
- 0:03going to teach you exactly how you
- 0:05should be launching meta ads as a
- 0:07complete beginner. Now, before I get
- 0:08into this and show you how this all
- 0:09works, I want to make something very
- 0:10clear. A lot of beginners spend way too
- 0:12much time obsessing over different
- 0:13strategies because they think that it
- 0:15will hack the system and help them get
- 0:17sales faster. That's not the case.
- 0:19Regardless of the strategy that you
- 0:20implement, whether it's mine or another
- 0:22strategy that you find somewhere, your
- 0:23budget is so small, $50 to $100 a day.
- 0:26It's really not going to move the needle
- 0:27as much as you think. The only thing
- 0:29that matters when you're testing a
- 0:31product, are you getting signal?
- 0:32Meaning, are people clicking on your ads
- 0:34and what are those people doing when
- 0:35they get to your site? And are they
- 0:36buying? That is the only thing that
- 0:38we're trying to find out with this
- 0:39simple test here. The reason I say this
- 0:41is simply just because people waste so
- 0:43much time in this phase and this is
- 0:44something that you could essentially
- 0:45launch within the next 5 minutes and
- 0:47then have a clear answer within the next
- 0:4948 hours whether this product's worth
- 0:51continuing. But before we jump into
- 0:52this, if you are getting started, I do
- 0:54want to say there are a couple links in
- 0:55the description of this video. If you
- 0:56are brand new, I have a video down below
- 0:58that breaks down exactly what you should
- 1:00be focusing on and what you shouldn't be
- 1:02focusing on. It will help you out a ton.
- 1:04I also have another video that goes in
- 1:06depth about what you should be doing to
- 1:07maximize the efficiency of the traffic
- 1:10that you're getting from this test here.
- 1:11So, with that being said, we're going to
- 1:12jump into this iPad right here and I'm
- 1:13going to break the strategy down and
- 1:15then I'm going to show you exactly how
- 1:16to do it step-by-step. So, these eight
- 1:18blocks right here is the entire
- 1:19framework of this. So, we start at the
- 1:21very top and this is a CBO campaign. The
- 1:23CBO campaign is going to start at a $50
- 1:26to $100 a day daily budget. Within the
- 1:29CBO, you're going to have one singular
- 1:30ad set. This ad set's going to be
- 1:32entirely broad. And then within side of
- 1:34this one ad set, you're going to have
- 1:35anywhere from six to 10 different
- 1:37creatives or ads. And that's it. So,
- 1:39again, one CBO at $50 a day, one
- 1:42singular broad ad set, and then anywhere
- 1:44from six to 10 different creatives
- 1:46inside of this ad set. Now, the way that
- 1:48I like to explain this to my beginner
- 1:49students, the CBO is the house. Inside
- 1:51of the house lives ad sets, which we can
- 1:53consider these rooms and right now we
- 1:55only have one room. And inside of that
- 1:57room, there needs to be furniture, which
- 1:59are ads. It's similar way to look at the
- 2:00breakdown. Campaign, ad set, ads. Ads
- 2:03live inside ad sets, ad sets live inside
- 2:05campaigns. The setup is very
- 2:06straightforward. Singular CBO at $50 to
- 2:08$100 a day, one singular broad ad set,
- 2:11six to 10 ads or creatives inside of
- 2:13that ad set. Okay, so here we are inside
- 2:16of the ads manager inside of meta. This
- 2:18is a dummy account. First thing you want
- 2:19to do is go ahead and select create.
- 2:21Then you want to select sales. Then you
- 2:23want to click continue. Now, once you're
- 2:25here, you want to name this campaign
- 2:26exactly what it is. I'll give you the
- 2:28naming convention that I like to do when
- 2:30starting out. So, today's date followed
- 2:32by the product followed by test. Now,
- 2:35you want to scroll all the way down to
- 2:36budget. Make sure that campaign budget
- 2:38is selected and set this to $50 to $100
- 2:41per day. Now, nothing else needs to be
- 2:44done here. So, once you have this lined
- 2:45up, you had the campaign name and you
- 2:47also have the campaign budget strategy
- 2:49set to campaign budget at $50 a day, go
- 2:52ahead and select next. Now, we dropped
- 2:54into the actual ad set level. For this
- 2:56ad set, we're just going to name this
- 2:57exactly what it is. This is US 18 plus
- 3:02and then depending on what your product
- 3:04is, if it's gender specific, we're going
- 3:06to put the corresponding gender. For the
- 3:07example product, it's for women, so I'm
- 3:09just going to put W for women and then
- 3:11broad. So, again, the region you're
- 3:13targeting, 18 plus, women, broad. Now,
- 3:17for conversion under website location,
- 3:19select website. For performance goal,
- 3:22use maximum number of conversions for
- 3:24the time being. For data set, select
- 3:26your pixel. For conversion event, go
- 3:28ahead and select purchase. Now, if you
- 3:30get this error right here, do not worry
- 3:32about this. A lot of my students first
- 3:34time they see this, they're like, "Oh
- 3:35what do I do?" Don't worry, it's
- 3:36just because your pixel has no purchase
- 3:38data yet because you're brand new. So,
- 3:41disregard this. This is not going to
- 3:42impact any of your performance. Now,
- 3:44what we want to do is scroll down cuz
- 3:46we're done here in this section. Now to
- 3:48budget and schedule. I always recommend
- 3:50launching at the following day at
- 3:51midnight. So, now we're going to move
- 3:53down to audience. First, starting with
- 3:55locations. And remember, I said that the
- 3:57product that we're doing is specifically
- 3:59for women. So, we're actually going to
- 4:00change this setting here. So, what we
- 4:02want to do is navigate down to further
- 4:04limit reach of your ads. If you're doing
- 4:06like a gender neutral type of product
- 4:08for men and women, you can just leave
- 4:10this space entirely alone and just move
- 4:12on past this point. If you're doing a
- 4:14gender specific product, click further
- 4:16limit reach of your ads and then click
- 4:18further limit reach of your ads again
- 4:20and then click continue and this is
- 4:21going to swap your setup. Now, what we
- 4:23want to do is choose our corresponding
- 4:25gender, which is women, and then we want
- 4:27to make sure that we deselect use as
- 4:29suggestion. The reason we want to do
- 4:31that is because we don't want dudes
- 4:32seeing our ads, especially if dudes are
- 4:34not our We're all good to go there. Now,
- 4:36what we want to do is navigate down to
- 4:39placements. Again, we want to keep this
- 4:40campaign as broad as possible. We don't
- 4:42want to mess with the placements just
- 4:43yet. We're going to leave these entirely
- 4:45open as they are. Now, notice your
- 4:47campaign score dropped down to 92. A lot
- 4:49of beginners often times freak out about
- 4:50this. They're like, "Oh, this is going
- 4:51to hurt my performance. It should be
- 4:52100." Who gives a about this? Do
- 4:54not worry about this. This does not
- 4:56matter. Also, disregard this, too. You
- 4:59could get 7.2% or any of these little
- 5:01recommendations. Do not ever click the
- 5:03apply now button. Just pretend they
- 5:05don't exist. So, to quickly summarize,
- 5:06make sure that your ad set name is set,
- 5:09your website location is set to website,
- 5:11your performance goal is maximum number
- 5:13of conversions, your data set is your
- 5:15pixel, your conversion event is always
- 5:17set to purchase, your start day is the
- 5:20following day at midnight. If you're
- 5:22doing a gender neutral product, you
- 5:25don't have to do anything here in
- 5:26audience. If you're doing a gender
- 5:27specific product, go ahead and change it
- 5:29to further limit reach of your ads and
- 5:31then choose the corresponding gender and
- 5:32make sure that suggestion is turned off.
- 5:35And then that is it. You don't need to
- 5:36do anything on placements. Then select
- 5:37next. Now, we're in the ad level. What
- 5:40we're going to do is name our ad. For
- 5:42simplicity here, we're just going to
- 5:43name this ad one and then whatever the
- 5:46messaging or the hook, whatever it is so
- 5:48you can identify this. Again, remember,
- 5:50nothing needs to be super fancy or super
- 5:52technical here. This is just a testing
- 5:54campaign. Ad name, whatever our hook is
- 5:57because we're going to use a video ad
- 5:59here. Now, for identity, choose your
- 6:00corresponding page. So, we're going to
- 6:02just use this little demo page we got
- 6:04going right here. We do not have an
- 6:06Instagram profile set up for this page,
- 6:07which you do not need one set up. So,
- 6:09we're just going to use Facebook page as
- 6:11the Instagram page. Same thing for
- 6:13threads. Now, under ad setup, make sure
- 6:16that manual upload is selected. And then
- 6:19we want to choose single image or video.
- 6:22Then you want to deselect
- 6:23multi-advertiser ads. Then move down to
- 6:26destination. Then we want to drop the
- 6:28URL to our product page or our landing
- 6:30page. Just for simplicity here, I'm just
- 6:32going to throw in nick.com. But again,
- 6:35ideally, you would want to drop off on
- 6:37your product page. So, something that's
- 6:39very important about this is you also
- 6:41want to make sure that all of these
- 6:42personalized destinations are turned
- 6:44off. This can be awfully tricky, so make
- 6:45sure you really don't rush through this.
- 6:48Click edit and then turn all this
- 6:50off.
- 6:51Make sure everything is off here. Then
- 6:52click done. Then you want to go down to
- 6:54ad creative and you want to upload your
- 6:56creative. So, image ad or video ad. In
- 6:57this example, we're doing video ad. So,
- 6:59we're going to click video ad and we're
- 7:00going to upload our first ad here. Now,
- 7:03for this, pay attention cuz this is also
- 7:04very important. We don't want to have
- 7:06any of this on. So, for creative
- 7:08setup, edit sources, just remove this.
- 7:10Then scroll all the way down to the
- 7:12bottom and make sure that your catalog
- 7:14is disabled. We don't want to have the
- 7:16catalog on here. We want to make sure
- 7:17that is off for the time being. Then we
- 7:20want to move down to primary text and we
- 7:22want to drop down our primary text here.
- 7:24If you had another variation of primary
- 7:26text, you could also plop it down here
- 7:28as well. But in this example, we do not,
- 7:30so we're just going to lead in with just
- 7:31one variation of primary text. Now, for
- 7:34headline, you want to drop your
- 7:35headline. There we go. And then for the
- 7:37description, I'm just going to put some
- 7:38urgency here. Limited time offer ends
- 7:41tonight with the clock emoji. You can
- 7:43see I use it an awful lot. There it is.
- 7:44And then for the call to action, you
- 7:46want to make sure that this is shop now.
- 7:47So, we have our text laid down for our
- 7:50ad. Now, we want to go to enhancements.
- 7:53As of the time of recording, I don't
- 7:54like any of these advancements. I think
- 7:56these things are awfully whack. So, I
- 7:57make sure that every single one of these
- 7:59are off. So, go ahead and click done.
- 8:01So, now you can see our ad right over
- 8:03here, fully laid down. This is
- 8:06fantastic. So, now, we're not done.
- 8:09Under ad creative, you see that creative
- 8:10setup zero to four, which is good. That
- 8:12means everything is off. For media, we
- 8:14only want to use one variation of media
- 8:16here. So, that's fine. We don't want to
- 8:18add any other variations cuz that
- 8:20defeats the purpose of testing the
- 8:22creative here. And you can in fact see
- 8:24that meta can be wonky and right here it
- 8:26got rid of our primary text. So, we're
- 8:28just going to lay that down again one
- 8:29more time. Let me also just fix the text
- 8:32here, too. Going to lay down the
- 8:33headline as well and then also our
- 8:35description. This is why I say you
- 8:37cannot rush when you do this. A lot of
- 8:40people rush through this and just
- 8:42because meta can be wonky sometimes, it
- 8:43will disable your changes and then
- 8:46you'll launch and you'll end up blowing
- 8:48budget on something and then you'll end
- 8:49up launching without your setup
- 8:51wondering why you're not seeing the
- 8:53results that you want. So, be sure that
- 8:55you really slow down and make sure that
- 8:57everything is set up the way that it
- 8:58needs to be set up as per this video.
- 9:01Now, you can see that we laid all this
- 9:02down. So, now what we're going to
- 9:03do is navigate down to under the call to
- 9:05action box, turned off create a sticker
- 9:08CTA, translate text, video touch-ups,
- 9:10and three more. That's good. But you can
- 9:12also see right here there is one
- 9:13enhancement on, which is relevant
- 9:16comments. Now, out of all these,
- 9:17relevant comments isn't bad, but I still
- 9:20like to disable this at least for a
- 9:21testing campaign. Once you have this
- 9:23lined up, you are all good to go.
- 9:26Remember, we have anywhere from six to
- 9:2810 different creatives. For this
- 9:29example, I only have three. So, what we
- 9:31need to do is actually just duplicate
- 9:33this ad right here. And for the sake of
- 9:35this example, I have two other ads that
- 9:36we can lay down here. So, we're going to
- 9:38click duplicate, number of copies two.
- 9:40I'm going to disable show existing
- 9:41reactions and comments. Click duplicate.
- 9:43Then we're just going to swap these.
- 9:44This is ad two. This is ad three. And
- 9:47then you would put whatever hook is
- 9:49leading in on the video. That way you
- 9:50can identify it. You wouldn't
- 9:52necessarily want to go hook one, hook
- 9:53two, hook three. Then continue to editor
- 9:55and you can see that we have our
- 9:57laid down perfectly right here and
- 9:58everything is already plugged in. So,
- 10:01this is the ad that we just did. This is
- 10:03our second ad. All we need to do here is
- 10:04swap the video and then make sure that
- 10:07all of our creative enhancements and all
- 10:08that stuff is turned off. We're in the
- 10:10second ad, what we're going to do is
- 10:11navigate over to creative setup. We're
- 10:13going to delete this video and then
- 10:15we're going to click add media, add
- 10:16video, upload and we're going to upload
- 10:18our second video or image if you're
- 10:20doing images. Again, scroll down, make
- 10:23sure you take your time, make sure that
- 10:24your catalog and everything is off, get
- 10:26rid of the source URL, text all lined
- 10:29up, enhancements all lined up. Go ahead
- 10:31select done. Again, make sure you take
- 10:33some time to go through and really make
- 10:35sure that everything is turned off once
- 10:36this video is done processing. And I
- 10:39really want to specify this, you want to
- 10:40slow down here because until the video
- 10:42has finally loaded, meta will refresh
- 10:44your So, any changes you make, it
- 10:46will not save. You can see that we're
- 10:48good to go and you can see our creative
- 10:50setup and all this stuff pops up now.
- 10:51So, zero out of four, fantastic. Down
- 10:54here, you can see that the enhancements
- 10:56are again turned on. So, let's go ahead
- 10:57and turn these off real fast. All we
- 10:59need to do is turn off relevant
- 11:00comments, then click save. We have our
- 11:03second ad laid down and now we just need
- 11:05to move up to our third. You're starting
- 11:06to see the process here. We lay it down
- 11:08once, then we duplicate, then we swap
- 11:10creatives and make sure that everything
- 11:11is turned off. I'm just going to do this
- 11:12final one real quick. Delete the
- 11:14existing video, add video or image and
- 11:17then we're going to upload our next
- 11:18creative right here. Make sure source
- 11:19URL is turned off, catalog is
- 11:21deselected, next, done and then we're
- 11:24just going to wait a couple seconds,
- 11:25wait for this to actually populate and
- 11:27then do a final sweep to make sure
- 11:28everything is off like we intended to
- 11:30be. So, let's go to the very bottom and
- 11:32we just want to make sure that relevant
- 11:33comments is turned off just for the sake
- 11:35of this test. Once you have all your
- 11:37creatives laid down, again, I only have
- 11:39three, you should have six to 10, then
- 11:41all you're going to do is go back to the
- 11:43campaign level and click publish. Now,
- 11:45once you click publish, your ad is live
- 11:47and will go live at the following day at
- 11:49midnight. You see how very
- 11:51straightforward and very simple this
- 11:53process is. Again, this process is
- 11:55really just to help us gain signal. Is
- 11:57something going to convert? Are the ads
- 11:59going to get clicks? Is something going
- 12:01to convert within 48 hours? That gives
- 12:03us direction moving forward. I have a
- 12:05video linked down in the description on
- 12:07what you would need to analyze and how
- 12:08you would need to think about the
- 12:09traffic that you're getting from your
- 12:11test to be able to maximize the
- 12:13efficiency. A lot of people kill winning
- 12:15products prematurely because they don't
- 12:17know how to read their data. Again, that
- 12:18video is linked down in the description.
- 12:20So, before I end this video, if you got
- 12:21value out of this and you get value out
- 12:23of the other videos here on my channel,
- 12:25you like the way that I articulate and
- 12:27communicate this process to you and you
- 12:29want to work directly with me
- 12:30one-on-one, there also will be a link
- 12:31down in the description to be able to
- 12:33work personally with me and my team so
- 12:35we can show you how to do this
- 12:36one-on-one. With that being said, I'll
- 12:38catch you in the next video.
