5. 0:15tape and at 16 11 hours present here is
6. 0:19Elizabeth Diane downs you know what I
7. 0:22love I love when a perpetrator changes
8. 0:26of their story
9. 0:27it was the time that we decided to take
10. 0:31her on and seriously challenger on the
11. 0:34inconsistencies in her story
12. 0:36Diane your story stinks this whole thing

15. 0:49chance happenstance horrific crime on
16. 0:51the side of a road
17. 0:52we have a conspiracy
18. 0:55the story had morphed into two suspects
19. 0:58and they referred to her by name and
20. 1:01then somehow and she said I think it was
21. 1:03somebody that knew me you changed it by
22. 1:05saying that this guy knows you know your
23. 1:08tattoo he knows about you he threatened
24. 1:11you
25. 1:11that's a hell of a change from what you
26. 1:13say the first time there was no reason
27. 1:15for you not to say that at the very
28. 1:17beginning I understand when witnesses or
29. 1:26victims add on to their story they tell
30. 1:28you something they never said before but
31. 1:30to change your story that is a horse of
32. 1:34a different color and I had one I'm
33. 1:36sitting here looking at me with the face
34. 1:38of stone another man over there smoking
35. 1:41a cigarette 90 miles an hour in casing
36. 1:44you're not my best buddy though when you
37. 1:46go hunting with us for sure you feel
38. 1:48guilty about what you did Diane no and I
39. 1:52wouldn't change it my kids and I always

41. 1:56one of the keys in interviewing somebody
42. 1:58is you got to keep the tension up stress

44. 2:04eventually get to the truth which
45. 2:06clearly does not happen with Diane but
46. 2:08that's the goal trying to find out who
47. 2:11shot your kids the interview went for
48. 2:23approximately two hours and towards the
49. 2:26end there her frustration level was
50. 2:28rising
51. 2:44I didn't do it Diane thought that she
52. 2:48was too smart for us and that there
53. 2:50wasn't anything that could trip her up
54. 2:53come on Diane it's you return it back
55. 2:57since you guys seem to think that I
56. 2:59should have brought the Diane with me I
57. 3:00will get myself

69. 3:38public pressure to arrest Diane downs

72. 3:47believe me there's tremendous amount of
73. 3:49pressure being placed especially in the
74. 3:50sheriff to make an arrest there was no
75. 3:53arrest for a long time because the DA in
76. 3:57this case really wanted to talk to the
77. 3:59only surviving witness who was old
78. 4:01enough to tell them what happened
79. 4:04the wait on the arrest was a result of
80. 4:08wanting Christie to be healthy enough to
81. 4:11testify after the stroke she had
82. 4:14difficulty speaking time is on our side
83. 4:17especially of the recovery of Christie
84. 4:20let's not trade certainty of a
85. 4:23conviction just for the expediency of
86. 4:25getting an arrest at first Christie
87. 4:30couldn't speak at all and then she was
88. 4:32afraid to talk the therapist working
89. 4:35with Christie asked her to write down on
90. 4:38a piece of paper the name of the person
91. 4:40who had shot her he said we'll put it in
92. 4:44an envelope and then you can put it in
93. 4:47my fireplace and we'll burn it and that
94. 4:49went on for a very long time and every
95. 4:53time she'd write a name down then she'd
96. 4:56throw it in the fireplace when she was
97. 4:58ready to talk about it they would open
98. 5:00it and when they did of course the slip
99. 5:04of paper said my mom
100. 5:10Diane was indicted and once I didn't die
101. 5:13and I came down it was time to to pay
102. 5:16her a visit
103. 5:18Dianna's arrested on february 28 1984
104. 5:23nine months after she shot her children

107. 5:31and even there were photographs of her
108. 5:34she was acting like this at the time
109. 5:35looking adoringly at the deputies who
110. 5:38were escorting her didn't seem shocked
111. 5:40didn't seem traumatized still was
112. 5:42bathing in the spotlight it was afforded
113. 5:44to her why all this she's been out free
114. 5:49for so long she was an uncharged suspect
115. 5:51for nine months it was like something
116. 5:55out of a bad made-for-tv movie you have
117. 5:57the defendant in the murder trial
118. 5:59walking in very determined to prove
119. 6:01she's innocent and very very pregnant
