  2. 0:02videos where i talk about how to network
  3. 0:04with people and use linkedin effectively
  4. 0:06i'm shan sharma and today's video we'll
  5. 0:08be taking a look at how can you grow
  6. 0:09your own linkedin presence how can you
  7. 0:12get discovered on linkedin it's not
  8. 0:14enough for you to create a great
  9. 0:15optimized profile
  10. 0:17what you need is content you need to
  11. 0:19produce content to get discovered
  12. 0:21and that is how you will be getting all
  13. 0:22the opportunities like freelance gigs or
  14. 0:24even internship offers or even job
  15. 0:26offers from the
  16. 0:27hr managers over there and recruiters
  17. 0:29that is how you will get it and let me
  18. 0:31share with you exactly how to get
  19. 0:32started i will be giving you a lot of
  20. 0:33examples
  21. 0:34a lot of the people that i look up to i
  22. 0:36will be sharing some of my own
  23. 0:37strategies of how i create content
  24. 0:39and how they come up with ideas for
  25. 0:41linkedin all of that i'll be discussing
  26. 0:42but before that make sure that you share
  27. 0:44this video with your friends subscribe
  28. 0:45to this channel hit that like button and
  29. 0:47now let's get started
  30. 0:48so as you can see this is what my home
  31. 0:50looks like on linkedin uh before talking
  32. 0:52about content let me quickly just talk
  33. 0:54about the network
  34. 0:55so if you go to the my network tab you
  35. 0:57will find a lot of people sending you
  36. 0:58connection requests
  37. 1:00now as you can see i have like 3 000
  38. 1:02connection requests that i can accept
  39. 1:04but it takes a lot of time linkedin used
  40. 1:06to have this feature where you can just
  41. 1:07accept all of them but it's not present
  42. 1:09right now
  43. 1:10but anyways uh basically what happens is
  44. 1:12that you can very simply just send a
  45. 1:14connection request to anyone that you
  46. 1:15want to
  47. 1:16so let's say i can just scroll down i
  48. 1:19can send a connection request maybe
  49. 1:20abhishek and it would say pending okay
  50. 1:23now this is
  51. 1:24this is what everyone does right this is
  52. 1:26what every single person does
  53. 1:27if you just take a look at all of the
  54. 1:29invitations that i get
  55. 1:31these are just very simple connection
  56. 1:33requests but the problem is that i don't
  57. 1:34know them
  58. 1:35right i don't even know who they are and
  59. 1:38like why do they want to connect with me
  60. 1:40so what happens is that whenever you're
  61. 1:41writing whenever you're connecting with
  62. 1:42someone you can write a quick message to
  63. 1:44them
  64. 1:45and that way they will understand okay
  65. 1:46this is why this person wants to connect
  66. 1:48with me i'm just trying to find that
  67. 1:49message right now
  68. 1:50all right so as you can see this is uh
  69. 1:52an example of what sort of message can
  70. 1:53you write so this guy is saying hey
  71. 1:55i watch your videos really like it and
  72. 1:57want to remember want to be a member of
  73. 1:59your
  74. 2:00awesome linkedin network something like
  75. 2:01that you can just send to the person
  76. 2:04who you want to get connected with and
  77. 2:05that would help you out a lot
  78. 2:07so basically this is one out of 300
  79. 2:10people that have sent me connection
  80. 2:12requests right so there would be very
  81. 2:13few people who take the effort to
  82. 2:14actually send a collection request
  83. 2:16and a message with that so let's say i
  84. 2:18want to connect with someone right so
  85. 2:20i can just go here to this uh profile
  86. 2:22tanya pratap i want to connect with him
  87. 2:24so i can just
  88. 2:25go to the more i can either follow him
  89. 2:27that you can
  90. 2:28like this and if i want to connect i can
  91. 2:30just press on the connect
  92. 2:31and i can add a note over here right so
  93. 2:33this is where i can just say
  94. 2:35that hey you know something like that
  95. 2:36you can just send it to someone and that
  96. 2:38way you can have
  97. 2:40a special connection like you can tell
  98. 2:42them that this is why i want to connect
  99. 2:44with you give them a reason so that they
  100. 2:45can accept your request there are a lot
  101. 2:46of people that send requests
  102. 2:47but it takes a lot of time to just
  103. 2:49filter them out and actually accept the
  104. 2:51ones
  105. 2:51that are useful to you but yeah should
  106. 2:53you be sending requests when you're
  107. 2:54starting out on linkedin
  108. 2:56absolutely you should right you can just
  109. 2:57search let's say you are
  110. 2:59in uh let's say you're in iit hyderabad
  111. 3:02for example okay
  112. 3:03and here you will see all the people who
  113. 3:04are from iit hyderabad if you are in
  114. 3:06this college you can just click on their
  115. 3:08profile you can try to connect with them
  116. 3:10right you can just say that
  117. 3:11hey yeah i'm also a first year student
  118. 3:13or a second year student from iit
  119. 3:14hyderabad
  120. 3:15um i would be great to connect with you
  121. 3:16i see that you're working into deep
  122. 3:18learning and you're also a guitarist
  123. 3:20i am also interested into it so we can
  124. 3:21definitely collaborate or something like
  125. 3:23that something you know like you can
  126. 3:25create a special message for that person
  127. 3:27that would
  128. 3:28make it different than the other
  129. 3:30hundreds or even thousands
  130. 3:32of requests that people get every single
  131. 3:34month on
  132. 3:35linkedin so this is about connecting
  133. 3:36with people you can create
  134. 3:38a huge uh base of audience that you can
  135. 3:41have as connections and after that you
  136. 3:43can just create content people would
  137. 3:45automatically follow
  138. 3:46you because of the quality of content
  139. 3:47that you're creating now with that said
  140. 3:49now let's talk about the content that
  141. 3:51you can create okay so content is really
  142. 3:52really important
  143. 3:54uh let me go ahead and share with you
  144. 3:56some of my own strategies and like
  145. 3:58how do i decide what to create what not
  146. 4:00to create so i
  147. 4:01basically like to just listen to a lot
  148. 4:04of business news and like what is
  149. 4:06happening in the startup ecosystem and i
  150. 4:07just talk about that stuff
  151. 4:09or i just talk about the creator economy
  152. 4:11let me give you an example so this post
  153. 4:12i created two days ago in which i'm just
  154. 4:14talking about why i
  155. 4:15watch all the ads i come across on
  156. 4:17youtube and instagram
  157. 4:18and what i did here is that i have
  158. 4:20broken my content in two parts okay so i
  159. 4:22have one line
  160. 4:23that is sort of like the like the
  161. 4:25cliffhanger is like it is to get people
  162. 4:27interested into
  163. 4:28reading the rest of the complete post
  164. 4:30and then
  165. 4:31i have left a line and then i say and
  166. 4:34then i ask myself you know something
  167. 4:35like that
  168. 4:36just to get people's attention okay
  169. 4:38that's what you need to do
  170. 4:40you if you add paragraphs long
  171. 4:41paragraphs no one is going to read that
  172. 4:43right so it's important that you give
  173. 4:44some spacing
  174. 4:45it's important that you only have one or
  175. 4:46two lines at once
  176. 4:48and then you can have some spacing leave
  177. 4:50a line and then just
  178. 4:52make it look good and consumable
  179. 4:54basically and
  180. 4:55let's see as you can see this one was
  181. 4:56seen by 13 000 people and as you can see
  182. 4:59it gives you a quick glimpse into
  183. 5:00who are the people that are seeing your
  184. 5:02post right it shows you from what
  185. 5:04location they are seeing the post
  186. 5:06what are their designation like what is
  187. 5:08their occupation
  188. 5:09it also shows you what company do they
  189. 5:10work for you can also see the shares
  190. 5:13that you're getting right
  191. 5:14so people that are resharing your own
  192. 5:16content oh harish we shared my post
  193. 5:18okay anyways uh so let's just see this
  194. 5:21was also a quick
  195. 5:22uh video that i just got from youtube i
  196. 5:25put in this text i said 14 years ago
  197. 5:27today this is what happened
  198. 5:29right and i made this first line it's
  199. 5:32like it's an ipod a phone an
  200. 5:33internet communicator and this was just
  201. 5:36really interesting
  202. 5:37and recently we hit the 14-year
  203. 5:39anniversary of the iphone being
  204. 5:40announced so i just wanted to share
  205. 5:42uh exactly what has happened what
  206. 5:44happened on that day what steve jobs did
  207. 5:47and that is why i just shared this video
  208. 5:49and it got like 8 000
  209. 5:50views and you can see who are the people
  210. 5:54that are actually
  211. 5:55watching the video and it shows you a
  212. 5:57lot of
  213. 5:58insights into it i also shared how i
  214. 6:00found a capwing creator's fund basically
  215. 6:02it's a fund created
  216. 6:04by kepling which is an application and
  217. 6:05it gives away 200 to creators
  218. 6:07i just want to share this information to
  219. 6:09people interested into getting this
  220. 6:11opportunity you can share whatever you
  221. 6:13are feeling whatever
  222. 6:14uh let's say whatever you are doing
  223. 6:16right let's say you are into graphic
  224. 6:17design you can just share what's
  225. 6:18happening in this community
  226. 6:20and what you go through right you can
  227. 6:22even crack jokes if you want to
  228. 6:24right but basically the motive here is
  229. 6:26to get discovered by people
  230. 6:28okay that's what's more important as you
  231. 6:30can see 7000 views then i was also
  232. 6:32talking about bitcoin
  233. 6:33and i was recently listening to a lot of
  234. 6:36podcasts on bitcoin so i thought let me
  235. 6:38share whatever i have learned
  236. 6:39about bitcoin with everyone right so
  237. 6:42i just shared that podcast i said that
  238. 6:44this is what the podcast was all about
  239. 6:46and as you can see i have divided the
  240. 6:47content as much as possible this is
  241. 6:49really important
  242. 6:50that you have some spaces make sure that
  243. 6:53everything is properly consumable you
  244. 6:54can even have emojis as well
  245. 6:56uh it's not too serious of a platform
  246. 6:58anymore include a picture okay so what
  247. 7:00happens when you include a picture is
  248. 7:01that it
  249. 7:02makes it more interactive okay so people
  250. 7:03who are watching or who are just reading
  251. 7:05this they might get bored
  252. 7:06but if they were to take a look at this
  253. 7:08picture they will immediately get
  254. 7:10attracted to read the rest of the post
  255. 7:12okay and it also promotes
  256. 7:14this post in the linkedin algorithm by a
  257. 7:16lot right so as you can see this one got
  258. 7:184000 views
  259. 7:19and you can just scroll you can see what
  260. 7:21sort of videos i was creating let me
  261. 7:22give you a quick example of
  262. 7:24what is a poster called crazy viral okay
  263. 7:27now this post is really interesting
  264. 7:28basically
  265. 7:29what happened is that i just scrolled on
  266. 7:32google chrome and i saw this news it
  267. 7:34said that three students got
  268. 7:36crazy packages from iit roorkee and i'm
  269. 7:38just like
  270. 7:39this is what i saw back when i was in
  271. 7:41like 8th grade or 7th grade and i was
  272. 7:43i want to get into these iits no matter
  273. 7:45what so i just wanted to share
  274. 7:47this this thought that i had on that day
  275. 7:49i was like 14 year old me saw a similar
  276. 7:51headline
  277. 7:52and my family decided what i want to do
  278. 7:55computer science in the iits
  279. 7:57right and i just had this really
  280. 7:58emotional post uh and it got a lot of
  281. 8:01engagement i use these hashtags of
  282. 8:02college iit student placement computer
  283. 8:05science
  284. 8:06let's say you click on the college you
  285. 8:08know hashtag
  286. 8:10you can follow this hashtag okay and
  287. 8:12then after that whoever uses this
  288. 8:13hashtag
  289. 8:14you get to see their posts and as you
  290. 8:16can see this post got like 1.31 lakh
  291. 8:20views this is really crazy
  292. 8:22a lot of people were able to see this
  293. 8:23post and they were having similar
  294. 8:26experiences
  295. 8:27right now that was uh about me that was
  296. 8:29the content that i like to create
  297. 8:31you can also let's say you're a
  298. 8:33developer okay so you can create
  299. 8:34posts like these you can say day 355 of
  300. 8:36coding
  301. 8:37of daily coding and you can just share
  302. 8:39what you did on that day right
  303. 8:40this is what bhavesh pandey does he's a
  304. 8:42friend of mine and he creates some great
  305. 8:45posts just about technology about
  306. 8:47software development and it looks really
  307. 8:49really good right
  308. 8:50he has been doing a lot of posts lately
  309. 8:52now there is another example that you
  310. 8:53can take a look at if you are into
  311. 8:55business and just learning about
  312. 8:56startups and how they work
  313. 8:57you can talk about that right you can
  314. 8:59talk about what is happening in this
  315. 9:00community
  316. 9:01and here is an example of how srianz
  317. 9:03does it he is
  318. 9:04a fellow batchmate in my same year in
  319. 9:06college
  320. 9:07and he just talks about startups he's
  321. 9:10also in esel
  322. 9:11entrepreneurship uh club that we have
  323. 9:13here and he just talks about business
  324. 9:15right
  325. 9:16it is really interesting and he also
  326. 9:17says follow shayan singh you can
  327. 9:19tag yourself in your own post so that
  328. 9:21people can just click on it and they can
  329. 9:22start following you
  330. 9:24this is great this is also a great idea
  331. 9:25that you can do and
  332. 9:27he's also using a few hashtags that is
  333. 9:29what you should be using
  334. 9:30it's not about making one great post
  335. 9:33it's about doing it
  336. 9:34for a long period of time every single
  337. 9:36day just churning out great
  338. 9:38posts on linkedin now you can you can
  339. 9:39create normal text posts you can also
  340. 9:41create these video posts you can also
  341. 9:43have a picture in the post
  342. 9:45uh or you can also do live on linkedin
  343. 9:48that is a feature that is coming up soon
  344. 9:49for everyone
  345. 9:50it's currently i think invite only you
  346. 9:53can also create an article on linkedin
  347. 9:54let me show you how that looks like
  348. 9:56now what happens in articles is that you
  349. 9:58can write like a full-fledged
  350. 9:59blog post over here now the capacity and
  351. 10:02in the text update is just
  352. 10:03around i think 1300 words uh if you have
  353. 10:06a lot more than that to say then you
  354. 10:08will definitely need to create an
  355. 10:09article
  356. 10:10what happens with this is that linkedin
  357. 10:12doesn't promote it enough okay so
  358. 10:13there's this problem with the algorithm
  359. 10:15it only supports
  360. 10:16it only promotes the posts that are
  361. 10:20exposed for example you know like just
  362. 10:21simple post you can just click over here
  363. 10:23you can just write a simple post so
  364. 10:25that's what you need to do you need to
  365. 10:26create these posts every single day in
  366. 10:28fact i want to start a challenge in
  367. 10:29which i want you to create one post
  368. 10:31every
  369. 10:32single day tag me you know like add to
  370. 10:34shan sharma
  371. 10:35and i will definitely be engaging with
  372. 10:37that post there is also this really
  373. 10:38interesting thing that happens basically
  374. 10:40let's say
  375. 10:41i like some post what the lingual
  376. 10:43algorithm does is that it now promotes
  377. 10:45that post for my own audience for
  378. 10:47all the connections that i have in my
  379. 10:48circle so that's what it does uh you can
  380. 10:51see it says
  381. 10:52shivani mehta commented on this and i
  382. 10:54can see what the comment was
  383. 10:55and i can also you know just add my own
  384. 10:58two cents
  385. 10:59if you don't have anything to say on a
  386. 11:00particular day you can just you know
  387. 11:02share that post and you can just say
  388. 11:04okay so something like that you can just
  389. 11:05create very quickly and you can just
  390. 11:06talk about what you think about this
  391. 11:08post
  392. 11:09um and that is also really great right
  393. 11:11you don't need to create an original
  394. 11:12content every single time you can just
  395. 11:13share the post you can add your own two
  396. 11:15cents on top of it
  397. 11:17and that would also be welcomed so yeah
  398. 11:19that's what you can do you can also
  399. 11:21run these polls on linkedin those are
  400. 11:23also really popular
  401. 11:25what they do is that you can just click
  402. 11:26over here you can click on create a poll
  403. 11:28and then you can write so i can just
  404. 11:29create a question which says startups
  405. 11:31versus working in big tech and then i
  406. 11:32can create these options
  407. 11:34that people can prefer and i can see
