My Crush Turned Me Into A Mom — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:03Hi, I'm Catalina Cortez, the only
- 0:06legitimate child of Richard Cortez, a
- 0:09billionaire with the emotional range of
- 0:12a potato. There was a time when we were
- 0:15a happy family. But after mom left when
- 0:17I was 5, dad went on a world tour of
- 0:21Girlfriends. Some standouts are a
- 0:23Spanish teacher, an Indian yoga
- 0:25influencer, a Kdrama actress, and a
- 0:27Russian pop star. His most recent one
- 0:29had gotten pregnant, and since he'd
- 0:32recently announced he was running for
- 0:33mayor, he needed to keep everything hush
- 0:36hush. And by hush hush, I mean paying
- 0:39her enough to keep her quiet. So yeah,
- 0:42while dad was always busy throwing money
- 0:44at me and all of his other problems, I
- 0:46got all the attention I wanted at
- 0:48school. Catalina, we saved you a seat.
- 0:51Oh my god, girl, your outfit is
- 0:53everything. But I wasn't stupid. I knew
- 0:56people loved having me around for the
- 0:58perks. VIP party invites, entry to the
- 1:01best clubs, Instagram clout, but none of
- 1:04them were actually my friends. The only
- 1:07real friend I had was Mike. He was my
- 1:10neighbor, and since he was a couple of
- 1:12years older, he took it upon himself to
- 1:14be my life coach.
- 1:15>> If you know people are hanging out with
- 1:17you just to ask favors, why are you
- 1:20friends with them? Um, because I'm 18
- 1:22and I need company and you're one to
- 1:24talk. Remember how you straightened your
- 1:26hair everyday just because Brittany
- 1:29liked it? You looked like a malnourished
- 1:31raccoon.
- 1:32>> And I don't want you making the same
- 1:33mistakes I did. Be better.
- 1:36>> But it was my last summer break of high
- 1:38school and I did not want to spend it
- 1:40alone. So, I impulsively invited my
- 1:43entire class to a Billy Isish concert
- 1:45happening that weekend. But the tickets
- 1:47were all sold out. So, of course, I knew
- 1:50what I had to do. Dad, it's an
- 1:52emergency. Billy's having a concert, and
- 1:55I need
- 1:55>> Catalina, we're in the middle of a
- 1:57meeting. You can wait outside and I'll
- 1:59be right.
- 1:59>> But I'd already zoned out because my
- 2:02eyes were glued to the most gorgeous boy
- 2:04ever. Dark, slightly messy hair, sleeves
- 2:08rolled up showing his veiny arms,
- 2:10jawline sharp enough to cut diamonds.
- 2:13Perfection.
- 2:14>> Mr. Cortez, if this isn't a good time.
- 2:17Oh, please don't stop on my account. I'm
- 2:20Catalina, by the way. You know, the
- 2:22Cortez Aerys Vogue teen cover last
- 2:25month. 12 million followers. You must
- 2:27have seen my Tik Tok series, Rich Girl
- 2:29Problems. It's been trending this past
- 2:31week.
- 2:32>> My bad. I must have missed it while
- 2:34reading something
- 2:36meaningful. Now, Mr. Cortez if we could
- 2:39return to discussing the initiative for
- 2:41underprivileged schools.
- 2:42>> And he went back to his presentation,
- 2:44ignoring me like I was a house fly.
- 2:47Usually, I'd throw some kind of tantrum
- 2:49for attention. But for once, I sat my
- 2:51butt down and listened. His name was
- 2:54Adrien Carter, and he was pitching a
- 2:56techbased education platform for
- 2:58low-income schools. Custom tablets, AI
- 3:01tutoring, skill building modules. It all
- 3:03sounded pretty cool.
- 3:05>> The idea is impressive, Carter. As you
- 3:07may know, I'm running for mayor this
- 3:09year, and something like this could
- 3:10really benefit the campaign and the
- 3:13community. So, if you can give me a
- 3:15number, we can talk about ownership.
- 3:17>> Respectfully, sir, I'm not looking to
- 3:19sell. I worked hard to build this from
- 3:21the ground up. Now, I'm finally ready to
- 3:23scale it. So, I'm looking for an
- 3:24investor who believes in my mission, not
- 3:26a buyout. This means more to me than a
- 3:29few zeros in my account.
- 3:30>> That was the first time I'd ever heard
- 3:33somebody say no to dad and no to money.
- 3:36I was super curious about Adrien, so I
- 3:39stalked him online that night. Orphaned
- 3:41at 12, MIT graduate on full scholarship
- 3:45and a self-made tech CEO before 23. He
- 3:48was quite the guy and super fit, too. So
- 3:52early the next morning, I went straight
- 3:54to the park where he joged every day.
- 3:57Oh, hi there,
- 3:59>> Miss Cortez. What are you doing here?
- 4:02>> Jogging, of course. And please call me
- 4:04Catalina. Miss Cortez sounds like I'm
- 4:07about to sell you essential oils. Do you
- 4:09come here often?
- 4:10>> Yes, but I've never seen you here
- 4:12before.
- 4:12>> Oh, that's because I run really fast.
- 4:15Like Lincoln, you miss it fast. I can
- 4:17show you. I started sprinting across the
- 4:20field only to trip over a route 10
- 4:23seconds in. Adrien ran over to help me.
- 4:26>> Looks like you might have a sprained
- 4:27ankle. Can you walk?
- 4:29>> Depends. Would you carry me if I can't?
- 4:32>> What?
- 4:33>> I'm joking. Although I think I am a bit
- 4:36dizzy. Would you mind grabbing some
- 4:39breakfast with me? Also, you know, I'm
- 4:42very persuasive. I bet I can convince
- 4:45Daddy to invest in your project.
- 4:48>> Thanks, but I don't need any favors.
- 4:50I'll book you a cab. I'm running late
- 4:51for something important.
- 4:53>> The more he ignored me, the more I
- 4:55wanted his attention. So, I pulled a few
- 4:58strings and ended up crashing his
- 5:00charity gala. But he was so busy with
- 5:03the guests, he barely looked my way.
- 5:05Then I casually showed up at his
- 5:07favorite coffee spot, but he just
- 5:09grabbed his latte and bolted before I
- 5:11could even say hi. I even went to his
- 5:13office once, but his secretary told me
- 5:16he wasn't around. Liar.
- 5:20He hates me, Mike. No, worse. He's
- 5:24repelled by me.
- 5:25>> Yeah, totally weird. He doesn't like
- 5:27stalkers. Why are you so obsessed with
- 5:30this guy anyway? I wouldn't say
- 5:32obsessed. It's just that
- 5:35he doesn't care. My name is Cortez. He's
- 5:38definitely not scared of my dad. And he
- 5:41wants to change the world. He's
- 5:43different, you know. Are you even
- 5:45listening to me? Who are you texting?
- 5:47>> Uh, sorry. Daddy issues.
- 5:50>> You're talking to your dad? What's going
- 5:52on? You've been really distracted
- 5:54lately.
- 5:55>> It's nothing. Look, Adrien is a
- 5:57self-made guy, and you need to show him
- 5:59that you're more than just daddy's
- 6:01spoiled little princess.
- 6:03>> That's when it hit me. Like a pair of
- 6:05lubboutons in the face. Daddy. Daddy's
- 6:08turning 50 next weekend, Mike.
- 6:11>> Okay. And
- 6:13>> every year on his birthday, he picks up
- 6:15one passion project to fund. What if
- 6:18this year I pitch an education
- 6:20foundation for kids who can't afford
- 6:22school? That'll impress Adrien.
- 6:25Fantastic idea. Except you know nothing
- 6:27about education or kids or foundations.
- 6:31>> Please, how hard can it be figuring that
- 6:34out? Turns out a lot. I had to go
- 6:37through government policy websites, read
- 6:39reports, and understand things like
- 6:41grants. Mike helped, of course, and by
- 6:44the end of the week, I had a fully
- 6:46fleshed out plan, which I presented on
- 6:49Dad's birthday, and everyone was
- 6:52impressed by how solid it looked,
- 6:54including Adrien.
- 6:56>> That was impressive. I didn't think
- 6:58you'd be that passionate about
- 6:59children's education.
- 7:00>> What? Of course, I love children and
- 7:04education. Everyone needs school, right?
- 7:07You don't want to turn out stupid.
- 7:10Anyway, want to dance? But just as our
- 7:12hands touched, Dad Chaur walked in
- 7:15carrying a huge box. He gave it to me
- 7:18along with a note. To the elites who
- 7:21take an act without thinking. Here's
- 7:24something you can't ignore. This child
- 7:26is your responsibility now. Huh? I
- 7:30lifted the lid and oh my god, it's a
- 7:33baby. The room exploded with gasps and
- 7:37camera flashes. Dad was immediately on
- 7:39the phone talking furiously to someone
- 7:42and I handed the baby to the nearest
- 7:44staff member and walked over to Adrien.
- 7:46Wow, that was unexpected. Anyway, where
- 7:50were we?
- 7:51>> Uh, aren't you going to address the fact
- 7:53that there's an abandoned baby in the
- 7:55middle of the room?
- 7:56>> Oh, don't worry about that. It's
- 7:59probably one of Dad's exes trying to get
- 8:01attention. The lawyers will take it away
- 8:03and handle it.
- 8:04>> It Are you serious? You talk about
- 8:06helping kids and then a real child shows
- 8:08up and your first instinct is to hand
- 8:10him off like some lost package.
- 8:12>> What else am I supposed to do?
- 8:14>> Anything's better than dumping him on
- 8:15your lawyers who will eventually just
- 8:17dump him at an orphanage. You wouldn't
- 8:19know how it feels to grow up thinking no
- 8:21one wants you, but I've been that kid.
- 8:23>> Excuse me. I grew up without a mother,
- 8:25too.
- 8:26>> Then how is it so easy for you to
- 8:28abandon a kid? Never develop something
- 8:30called empathy, I guess. I looked at the
- 8:32baby, tiny, helpless, and something
- 8:35inside me just snapped. Fine, then I'm
- 8:39going to look after the baby till we
- 8:41find his real mom.
- 8:42>> Are you trying to crack jokes now?
- 8:44>> No, I'm not. I will look after that
- 8:47child by myself. I know what it feels
- 8:50like to be left behind, and I wouldn't
- 8:51wish that on anyone, especially not a
- 8:54baby. But if I do this successfully,
- 8:57you'll publicly admit that you're just a
- 8:59judgmental butt face who was entirely
- 9:01wrong about me.
- 9:02>> Great. But when you fail, which you
- 9:04will, you'll admit how you're nothing
- 9:06but a shallow, entitled princess, and
- 9:09you'll move to a developing country for
- 9:10a year without your money.
- 9:13>> Easy. Anything else?
- 9:15>> Yeah, I don't trust you to actually do
- 9:17the work. You'll probably hire someone
- 9:19and fake it. So, you're moving into my
- 9:20house.
- 9:21>> I'm not a liar.
- 9:23>> Then it shouldn't be a problem. Uh,
- 9:25fine, but I'm bringing my own bedding.
- 9:27And that's how I ended up in Adrienne's
- 9:29penthouse. Dad, of course, hated the
- 9:32idea, but I made him see how this could
- 9:34work in our favor. The press would see
- 9:36how the Cortez family was stepping up
- 9:38and caring about the baby until the
- 9:40mother was found. And once the mom
- 9:42reappeared, we could just pay her off
- 9:44quietly to make the whole thing go away.
- 9:46I packed up whatever I could and left
- 9:48for Adrienne's place. He lived in a
- 9:51penthouse, which wasn't bad. And he gave
- 9:54me the biggest room in the house.
- 9:56>> Don't think I'm doing this for you. The
- 9:58baby needs more room. Now, I have a
- 10:00meeting tomorrow and I need to sleep.
- 10:02So, zero noise and zero drama.
- 10:04Understood?
- 10:04>> Wait, you're not going to help me.
- 10:07>> Why? You're the one who took up the
- 10:08challenge, so you deal with it. Bye-bye.
- 10:10>> And then he just turned around and left.
- 10:14Rude. I looked at the baby. Aw, the poor
- 10:18thing looked so innocent. But then he
- 10:20let out a fart bomb enough to take a
- 10:23city down. Oh no. Oh no. You smell
- 10:27nasty.
- 10:28This is literally the worst. I couldn't
- 10:31stop gagging as I got rid of the dirty
- 10:34diaper. And just before I could fasten
- 10:36the new one on, he peed all over me. And
- 10:40then he just started wailing. I rocked
- 10:42him, made faces, did a silly dance, but
- 10:45nothing worked. So, I ran to the kitchen
- 10:48for some milk and fed him. And he
- 10:50finally dozed off. I guess I dozed off,
- 10:53too, because when I woke up, it was
- 10:56morning and Mike was staring at my face.
- 11:00>> Good morning, princess. Love the new
- 11:02hair.
- 11:03>> Mike, thank god you're here. Just hold
- 11:05on to him. I got to pee. When I got
- 11:07back, Mike was on the phone with someone
- 11:10looking tense. But as soon as he saw me,
- 11:12he disconnected. Everything okay?
- 11:15>> Yeah. Yeah, just college stuff. How are
- 11:17you doing?
- 11:18>> What does my zombie-like appearance
- 11:20suggest?
- 11:21>> Why don't you just let your dad handle
- 11:23this whole baby situation
- 11:25>> and give up? No way. I need to show
- 11:28Adrien I'm more than some shallow
- 11:30princess riding on daddy's credit card.
- 11:32Besides, I've got you to help me.
- 11:35>> Right about that. I actually have to
- 11:39leave for a college project in Korea for
- 11:41a week.
- 11:42>> Just then, the baby started screaming. I
- 11:45asked Mike to wait till I change the
- 11:46diaper, but he said he had to meet
- 11:48someone and left abruptly. Weird. The
- 11:51next few days were the toughest of my
- 11:54life. Between non-stop diaper changes,
- 11:56feeding schedules, and roundthe-clock
- 11:58crying, I could hardly eat, shower, or
- 12:02even breathe. Mike wasn't replying to
- 12:04any of my desperate calls or texts. So,
- 12:07I had zero backup unless you count
- 12:09Adrienne's insanely detailed
- 12:11instructions before heading to work.
- 12:13>> Formula temperature 98.6°
- 12:16exactly. Not 99, not 98. Diapers change
- 12:21immediately after feeding. Tummy time
- 12:23three times daily and absolutely no
- 12:24screen time. Also, I've installed nanny
- 12:26cams to make sure you don't cheat.
- 12:28>> What? That's literally illegal.
- 12:30>> No cameras. But your face just confirmed
- 12:33you were planning to cheat. Does my face
- 12:34also confirm that I feel like hitting
- 12:36you with a bat?
- 12:38>> Really? I thought you liked me. Isn't
- 12:40that why you followed me to that park
- 12:41and to my favorite coffee place?
- 12:43>> So, you did see me and didn't even say
- 12:46hi. That's rude.
- 12:47>> Well, in my defense, I was in a hurry
- 12:49and you talked too much.
- 12:50>> Or maybe you're just a bad listener.
- 12:52>> I don't agree.
- 12:53>> Didn't think you would. I turned to
- 12:55leave, but the door knob got jammed.
- 12:59Just then, Adrien came forward, curled
- 13:01his hands around mine, and gave the knob
- 13:03a quick tug. Thanks.
- 13:05>> Anytime.
- 13:06>> I hurried out the door, but I could feel
- 13:08his eyes digging me in my back. What was
- 13:11that? The entire day, I couldn't stop
- 13:14replaying Adrienne's smug grin in my
- 13:17head. I needed a break, so I decided to
- 13:20take the baby for a walk that evening.
- 13:22And a few blocks away, I spotted this
- 13:24cute little cafe. Hello. Welcome to
- 13:26Latte Love. We are a small batch,
- 13:28ethically sourced, community supported
- 13:30espresso bar. Have you tried our single
- 13:31origin cold brew from the highlands of
- 13:33Ethiopia?
- 13:34>> I'll just have a regular coffee. Thanks.
- 13:37You mean drip brew or a pourover? We
- 13:40also have a honey lavender fusion. Just
- 13:42coffee in a cup, hot, maybe with sugar.
- 13:46>> Oh, we only have organic coconut syrup
- 13:48harvested under the moonlight.
- 13:50>> Okay, coconut syrup it is.
- 13:52>> Would you like to add our handcrafted
- 13:54oat foam? We grow the oats.
- 13:55>> Oh my god. Just give me the coffee, you
- 13:58freak of nature.
- 13:59>> Give her a regular latte with oat milk.
- 14:01It's the best.
- 14:02>> I turned around and saw this really cute
- 14:05guy smiling at me. His name was Jack,
- 14:07and he was the cafe owner. We chatted
- 14:10for a while, and for the first time in
- 14:12weeks, I felt kind of normal. I was in a
- 14:16great mood when I returned, and Adrien
- 14:19was waiting to ruin it.
- 14:21>> Where have you been? I was just at the
- 14:23cafe near the park drinking coffee,
- 14:25talking to an actual human being who
- 14:27doesn't yell at me every 5 minutes.
- 14:29>> Why didn't you answer your phone? I
- 14:30called so many times.
- 14:31>> It was in my bag. I didn't notice.
- 14:34>> Typically careless. It's way past his
- 14:36bedtime and you're out wandering around
- 14:37town talking to strangers.
- 14:39>> Why are you overreacting? I just stepped
- 14:42out and had a normal conversation with a
- 14:44nice guy who was actually really helpful
- 14:46with Bet.
- 14:47>> Who's Bet? Wait, you named the baby B?
- 14:51Yeah, short for bet you didn't see that
- 14:53coming. It's got a ring to it. You
- 14:56wouldn't get it. Anyway, I'm meeting my
- 14:58new friend Jack for lunch tomorrow, too.
- 15:00>> You don't need Jack or his stupid help.
- 15:02I'll take you both out tomorrow.
- 15:04>> But Jack's a pro with kids. He has
- 15:07nieces and nephews.
- 15:09>> I spend half my life surrounded by kids.
- 15:11Trust me, if anyone knows how to handle
- 15:13kids, it's me.
- 15:14>> The next day, Adrien took me and Bet on
- 15:16a picnic. He'd made us snacks, got us
- 15:19drinks, and even brought toys for bed.
- 15:21Even the two of us were getting along
- 15:23really well. And when Adrien wiped some
- 15:25sauce off my face, his fingers lingered
- 15:28on a little longer, and it made my
- 15:29stomach turn. But just then, that let
- 15:32out the most earshattering scream. After
- 15:3510 minutes of chaos, spit up, and public
- 15:38humiliation, Adrien and I packed up
- 15:40everything and decided to head home. We
- 15:43were waiting for a cab when a city bus
- 15:45rolled up and stopped beside us. Let's
- 15:47take the bus. The cab's taking too much
- 15:49time.
- 15:50>> No, cabs are faster and safer,
- 15:52especially with a baby.
- 15:53>> Oh, unclench and chill out, will you?
- 15:55Saying that, I climbed onto the bus and
- 15:58Adrien followed with B. Sometime later,
- 16:00this girl walked up to us. Aw, such an
- 16:03adorable baby. And you guys make a great
- 16:06couple.
- 16:06>> We're not together.
- 16:08>> Oh, thank God. Excuse me. Do you think
- 16:11maybe we could get off at the next stop
- 16:13and grab some coffee?
- 16:14>> We totally would, but his boyfriend's
- 16:17waiting for him. It's their 6-month
- 16:19anniversary.
- 16:20>> What? I'm not gay.
- 16:22>> It's okay, sweetie. It's 2025. You know,
- 16:25they even adopted a baby to show how
- 16:27committed they are to each other. It's
- 16:29the most beautiful thing. Oh, look. Our
- 16:32stop is here. You have a very nice day.
- 16:36And saying that, I just hurried to the
- 16:38door and got off with Adrien right
- 16:40behind me.
- 16:40>> What was that?
- 16:41>> I was blowing her up for you. You're
- 16:43welcome. Wait, you didn't actually want
- 16:46to get coffee with her, did you?
- 16:48>> Maybe I did. She was a pretty girl.
- 16:50>> I am a pretty girl. And you've never had
- 16:52coffee with me. Anyway, I'm tired. So,
- 16:56let's just go home. And Wait, where's B?
- 16:59>> You had him.
- 17:00>> No, I didn't. You were the one with the
- 17:02stroller.
- 17:03>> Oh my god, he's on the bus. Adrien and I
- 17:05sprinted after the bus, which obviously
- 17:08outran us. What do we do now? Should we
- 17:11go to the police
- 17:13>> and tell them what? That we lost a baby
- 17:15who wasn't even ours? They book us for
- 17:16kidnapping?
- 17:17>> This is all your fault. If you hadn't
- 17:19flirted with that stupid chick, I
- 17:22wouldn't have been so distracted.
- 17:23>> My fault? I didn't even get to talk to
- 17:25her while you were busy making up lies
- 17:27about me.
- 17:28>> Just then, I got this phone call from an
- 17:30unknown number. It was a woman from the
- 17:32bus and she said she'd found my contact
- 17:34info in the stroller and bet was with
- 17:36her. She sent us the location and
- 17:38Adrienne and I sprinted there like two
- 17:40lunatics. We thanked her a h 100 times
- 17:44and headed straight home. After putting
- 17:46B to bed, Adrienne and I collapsed on
- 17:49the couch, exhausted.
- 17:52When I woke, B was in Adrienne's arms.
- 17:55>> Hey, turns out Bet's a morning person.
- 17:58Turns out I already knew that.
- 18:00>> Mhm. So, I've been thinking I owe you an
- 18:04apology.
- 18:04>> For which particular incident? Because
- 18:07if you're starting from day one, we
- 18:09might need coffee first.
- 18:10>> For all of it. I guess I had this idea
- 18:12of who you were, and I never let you
- 18:14show me otherwise. But yesterday made me
- 18:17realize I've been judging you unfairly.
- 18:19You're amazing. Not because you do
- 18:21everything perfectly, but because you
- 18:23keep showing up.
- 18:24>> Well, thank you. It's been more
- 18:26exhausting trying to prove myself to you
- 18:28than taking care of B.
- 18:30>> Consider me fully convinced.
- 18:32>> That day, something shifted between us.
- 18:35He started staying home more often,
- 18:37helping without being asked. Sometimes
- 18:39he'd quietly take over bottle duty or
- 18:41sneak into the kitchen at 2 a.m. to warm
- 18:43up formula while I was dead asleep on
- 18:45the couch. He even suggested I take a
- 18:47break and go to a birthday party I'd
- 18:49committed to weeks ago. Except, I didn't
- 18:52want to go.
- 18:52>> Why not? You're 18. and go have some
- 18:54fun.
- 18:55>> In that case, come with me. You deserve
- 18:58a break, too. And I'd like you to meet
- 19:00my friends. Plus, the invite explicitly
- 19:03says we need a plus one. He didn't look
- 19:06thrilled, but after some dramatic
- 19:08pleading, he caved. We left bed with one
- 19:11of his older maids and headed to the
- 19:13party. I thought it would be a fun
- 19:14night, but 10 minutes into the party, I
- 19:17had people swarming over to me for
- 19:19favors. Hey, Cat. Is your dad still on
- 19:22that hotel board? Think he could pull a
- 19:24few strings for a friend's destination
- 19:26wedding? You're still tight with that
- 19:29influencer girl, right? You have to get
- 19:31her to tag my vintage page. I heard
- 19:33you're babysitting full time now or
- 19:35something. That's wild. Anyway, do you
- 19:38still have your stylist number? I
- 19:40smiled. I nodded. I said, "I'll see what
- 19:43I can do so many times I lost track."
- 19:46And it made me wonder if it had always
- 19:48been this bad. I decided I wanted to
- 19:51leave the party. I was trying to find
- 19:53Adrien when I overheard some of my
- 19:55classmates talking. Honestly, I thought
- 19:57Katarina was pregnant or in rehab. Her
- 19:59skin looks kind of dull, right? And
- 20:01she's barely said anything. Didn't even
- 20:03apologize for not answering my text for
- 20:05the concert tickets I wanted. Daddy said
- 20:07her father is dealing with some scandal.
- 20:09Let's hope he doesn't ruin his chances
- 20:11to become mayor. She could be a lot more
- 20:13useful to us as the mayor's daughter. I
- 20:16wanted to slap their faces, but just
- 20:19then I saw Adrien trip right into them,
- 20:21making them spill their drinks all over
- 20:23their dresses.
- 20:24>> Oops. I'm so sorry. That was a total
- 20:26accident.
- 20:27>> Oh my god, you klutz. Where are your
- 20:29eyes?
- 20:30>> Right here.
- 20:31>> Are you trying to be funny? My dress is
- 20:33Persian silk.
- 20:34>> I have no idea what that means, but
- 20:36guessing by the way you're shrieking,
- 20:38I'm sure it was expensive. You can
- 20:40afford a good dry cleaner, though. Yeah.
- 20:42In case you can't, here's my number.
- 20:43I'll take care of the bill. And then he
- 20:45just turned around and walked away,
- 20:48leaving the girls fuming. That was
- 20:51awesome. Also hilarious to see you
- 20:53tripping so dramatically.
- 20:55>> Yes, I sacrificed my usual grace and
- 20:58poise for you. But seriously, these
- 20:59people are selfish leeches. You already
- 21:01knew that, right?
- 21:02>> Yeah, but most of the people I know are
- 21:05like this. And I figured early on that
- 21:07getting people things they wanted made
- 21:09me popular. I sound like a really
- 21:12pathetic attention seeker, right?
- 21:15>> No, I get where you're coming from, but
- 21:17you deserve better. And you're in much
- 21:20better company now. Let's get out of
- 21:21here and grab some pizza.
- 21:23>> Sounds like a plan. Over the next few
- 21:25days, Adrien and I got closer. The more
- 21:28time we spent together, the more I liked
- 21:30and respected him, and I genuinely liked
- 21:33our quiet little life together. I
- 21:35certainly didn't miss my fake friends
- 21:37and didn't even need as much retail
- 21:39therapy. But what scared me was that
- 21:42summer break was almost over and dad
- 21:44still hadn't located Bet's mom. I was
- 21:47beginning to feel really worried about
- 21:48what would happen to him if we never
- 21:50found her. Then suddenly one evening, I
- 21:53got a phone call. It was from a hospital
- 21:55saying that Mike had been in an accident
- 21:57and since his parents weren't answering,
- 21:59they'd contacted me. But he's in Korea.
- 22:03Are you sure you have the right person?
- 22:05>> Yes, ma'am. You're listed on his
- 22:07emergency contact list. When did he get
- 22:10back and why didn't he tell me? I called
- 22:12Adrien, but he was stuck in a meeting.
- 22:15So, I left Bet with one of the maids and
- 22:17rushed to the hospital to see Mike. I
- 22:19found him in the reception area arguing
- 22:21with someone on the phone.
- 22:22>> Please, no, you can't tell them. Let me
- 22:25handle this my own way.
- 22:27>> What's going on? Mike looked startled,
- 22:29hung up, and hugged me. What's
- 22:31happening, Mike? When did you get back?
- 22:34Or you've never left, and you've just
- 22:35been avoiding me?
- 22:36>> No, I came back last night. I was on my
- 22:39way to see you when I got hit by that
- 22:41stupid delivery bike. But I'm fine, and
- 22:43there's something I need to tell you.
- 22:46>> But before Mike could finish, I got a
- 22:48call from Adrienne's maid. She said she
- 22:50was watching Bet when someone attacked
- 22:52her and took Bet away. I tried asking
- 22:55her more, but the maid was so shaken up
- 22:57she could barely speak. Mike and I
- 22:59rushed home and I crashed through the
- 23:01door to find Adrien already there. We
- 23:03watched the security footage in horror.
- 23:06A woman in her 40s had walked in, pushed
- 23:08the maid, and left with Bet. Oh my god.
- 23:11This is my fault. I I shouldn't have
- 23:14left Bet alone. What was I thinking?
- 23:17>> None of this is your fault. If anything,
- 23:19I should have tightened security around
- 23:20here. How could she just walk in like
- 23:22that? I'm going to the police. We'll
- 23:24sort this out.
- 23:25>> You don't need to do that. I I know
- 23:28where B is.
- 23:29>> What? How could you possibly know that?
- 23:32>> Because he's my son. Excuse me.
- 23:36>> That's when Mike finally came clean.
- 23:39Bet's real name was Leo, and he was
- 23:42Mike's son with his college girlfriend,
- 23:44Amara. And the woman on the camera feed
- 23:46was Amara's mom.
- 23:47>> Amara and I dated a while ago. Then one
- 23:50day, she told me she was pregnant. I
- 23:52knew if dad found out, he'd lose it. So,
- 23:54I told her I couldn't be part of the
- 23:56baby's life. She dropped out of college
- 23:59and left. But I did find out I'd had a
- 24:02son. So, you knew all along that baby is
- 24:05your son, watched me uproot my life, and
- 24:08said nothing.
- 24:10>> I'm sorry. I didn't want you to hate me.
- 24:13>> And yet, somehow, I want to punch your
- 24:16face.
- 24:16>> Catalina, I know you're angry, but let
- 24:18him finish. So, tell me, why did Amara
- 24:21think it was a good idea to leave Leo at
- 24:23Catalina's place?
- 24:24>> That was her mom. Amara got a job
- 24:27overseas and left Leo in her care. But
- 24:29that woman is crazy. She kept calling,
- 24:32yelling at me, saying I was a terrible
- 24:34person. So, I stopped picking up. I
- 24:36guess she wanted to teach me a lesson
- 24:38and decided to drop Leo at my place, but
- 24:41she messed up the address since Cat and
- 24:43I are neighbors.
- 24:44>> But why didn't she come talk to us
- 24:46instead of taking bed away like some
- 24:48kidnapper?
- 24:49>> She's been stalking me on social media
- 24:51because she found out I was in Korea and
- 24:53screamed at me on the phone asking what
- 24:55I'd done with Leo. So, I told her he was
- 24:58safe with you. Maybe she went to your
- 25:00place and found out you're currently
- 25:02staying with Adrien.
- 25:03>> I can't believe all this. I thought you
- 25:06were smart and wise, but I am so
- 25:10disappointed in you.
- 25:11>> Cat, I know you're angry, but right now
- 25:14we need to see if Leo's okay. Do you
- 25:16know where Amara's mom lives?
- 25:18>> Mike nodded and 15 minutes later, we
- 25:20were standing outside a cramped
- 25:22apartment. We knocked and the woman who
- 25:24opened the door looked at us with the
- 25:25most disgusted expression ever. What do
- 25:28you want, princess? I thought you'd be
- 25:31happy to be rid of the baby your friend
- 25:33dumped on you. And you probably dumped
- 25:36him on your maids. I thought I could
- 25:38teach Mike some responsibility, but if
- 25:40he can't take care of his own child,
- 25:42then fine. He doesn't deserve to be a
- 25:45part of Leo's life. I didn't dump Leo on
- 25:48anyone, and I care about him a lot. You
- 25:51certainly taught me something about
- 25:52being responsible and less selfish for a
- 25:54change, and I'm grateful for it. And
- 25:56we're here to let you know that starting
- 25:58today, Mike will be stepping up.
- 26:01Financial support, parenting classes,
- 26:04regular visits, all of it. And if it's
- 26:06okay with you, I would like to pitch in,
- 26:09too. What's the catch?
- 26:10>> No catch. We genuinely want to help. Leo
- 26:13deserves a family, not an absent mother
- 26:16and an irresponsible father.
- 26:18>> But I have college and placements, and
- 26:21my parents will kill me. Well, you
- 26:22should have thought about that before
- 26:24bringing a child into the world, Mike. I
- 26:26know this is really big, but we can do
- 26:29it together. A child needs a village to
- 26:31raise it anyway, right? Mike did step up
- 26:35and came clean to his parents about Leo.
- 26:37And let's just say it was dramatic, but
- 26:41he and Amara's mom worked out a custody
- 26:43agreement between them. And of course,
- 26:45Leo's favorite auntie Catalina had
- 26:48exclusive visiting rights. Also, my dad
- 26:51agreed to invest in Adrienne's idea to
- 26:53help underprivileged kids. And a month
- 26:55later, we had a party to celebrate the
- 26:58launch of his project.
- 27:02>> So, I guess you officially won the bet.
- 27:04>> Aw. Are you sad?
- 27:06>> Nope. If anything, I'm proud of you. I
- 27:09spent years thinking that letting people
- 27:10in was a weakness. But seeing how brave
- 27:13you were, standing up for Leo, it made
- 27:15me want to take a chance.
- 27:16>> What kind of chance?
- 27:20The kind that scares me but also feels
- 27:24exactly right. Like this.
