  1. 0:00Sam, how many times have you read the
  2. 0:01Quran?
  3. 0:02I don't know, really. Maybe once or
  4. 0:05twice, I don't know. No, stop it.
  5. 0:06>> No, I'm serious. I don't
  6. 0:09Literally, you've read it maybe once or
  7. 0:10twice?
  8. 0:10>> Yeah. And how do you remember
  9. 0:11everything?
  10. 0:12As I was trying said, I think we said up
  11. 0:14there in the '90s, I realized
  12. 0:17honestly when I would have a
  13. 0:18conversation, verses would pop in my
  14. 0:19head.
  15. 0:20So, it's not I trained for it, and I
  16. 0:22don't want people to be impressed by it.
  17. 0:23Right? Oh, it was it.
  18. 0:25No.
  19. 0:26Knowledge puffs up. Love builds up. I
  20. 0:28got a lot of issues that I pray God will
  21. 0:29show me mercy on the day of judgment.
  22. 0:31But, I just realized maybe it's God's
  23. 0:33way of gifting me. How many times have
  24. 0:34you read the Bible?
  25. 0:36If I go back, I probably read it two or
  26. 0:39three times. Two or three times?
  27. 0:40>> Yes. I don't really read it all the way
  28. 0:42through. Like now, it's not it's just
  29. 0:43like, you know, I'll go through it.
  30. 0:46You know, maybe read a psalm here or
  31. 0:47there, or if I'm researching. Yeah, it's
  32. 0:48it's
  33. 0:49I I guess like when they drop me really
  34. 0:51I was dropped as a child when I was one
  35. 0:53on my head. So, maybe it triggered
  36. 0:54something, I don't know. Maybe that's
  37. 0:55how God does it, right?
  38. 0:56>> Are you are you a massive because when
  39. 0:58when I sat down with Charlie Kirk and
  40. 1:00and we would talk to him off camera, he
  41. 1:02would say he studies 3 hours every day.
  42. 1:06Yeah. No matter what he reads and
  43. 1:07studies 3 hours every day.
  44. 1:08>> Yeah. Do you have a ritual of studying a
  45. 1:10lot every day? Do you read a lot every
  46. 1:12day? Not that way. What I do is I'm
  47. 1:14always on my blog writing posts for
  48. 1:16people
  49. 1:17if not doing live streams. So, I'm not
  50. 1:19studying, I'm writing to equip people
  51. 1:22with articles so they can use it in
  52. 1:24battle.
  53. 1:25Because I want to equip people. So,
  54. 1:27because look uh
  55. 1:28if the Lord tarries, I'm going to die.
  56. 1:30So, at 6 and a half, this 9-year-old
  57. 1:33comes to you. At that time
  58. 1:35at that time, what's your relationship
  59. 1:36with your dad at 6 and a half? My dad
  60. 1:38walked
  61. 1:39walked away when I was probably seven,
  62. 1:42shortly right after that.
  63. 1:43>> So, it's right around that time that
  64. 1:44this is happening to you. Got it. Okay,
  65. 1:46so that had a massive impact on you
  66. 1:48because huge. So, is that is that a
  67. 1:51moment for you where your biological
  68. 1:53father walked out, but your you know,
  69. 1:56spiritual father is going to be with you
  70. 1:57forever? Did you Did that give you that
  71. 1:58peace as a young man? Raymond was Yeah,
  72. 2:01Raymond's pretty much my dad even though
  73. 2:03he was nine. And his grandmother
  74. 2:06my mother was a wonderful woman. She
  75. 2:08left a wonderful legacy, but she wasn't
  76. 2:10educated in scripture. So, but his
  77. 2:11grandmother was my spiritual mother.
  78. 2:13Raymond's Raymond's grandmother.
  79. 2:14>> Yeah, because his mother died when he
  80. 2:16was young. So, his maternal grandmother
  81. 2:18raised him and his brother. How much
  82. 2:20time did you spend with her?
  83. 2:21I think from 6 and a half to 10.
  84. 2:24How often? Like every day? Every day
  85. 2:25we'd go I'd hang out with him every day.
  86. 2:27We'd go to the house. She would teach us
  87. 2:28prayers. She would
  88. 2:30>> or he would?
  89. 2:30>> She would. She In fact, because of her
  90. 2:32impact, I still remember
  91. 2:34>> [clears throat]
  92. 2:34>> Now I know it's part of the liturgy of
  93. 2:36the Assyrian church, but I didn't know
  94. 2:38that back then. She would teach She
  95. 2:39taught me this. And it edged for some
  96. 2:41reason those prayers
  97. 2:43Qaddisha Alaha She taught me that.
  98. 2:47She also taught me the Ave Maria, but in
  99. 2:48a different way from where, you know,
  100. 2:51like Bocelli says it. She taught it this
  101. 2:54way. Now, guys, I'm not a singer, and
  102. 2:55I'm not going to give up my day job, but
  103. 2:56so
  104. 2:57she taught it this way. Ave Ave Ave
  105. 3:02Maria. So, I remember that for some
  106. 3:03reason it stayed in my mind.
  107. 3:05Right? She was a wonderful woman. 6 and
  108. 3:07a half years old. Was Raymond's
  109. 3:09grandmother friends with your mother?
  110. 3:11No. They didn't know each other.
  111. 3:13>> No. Yeah, they were they were in the
  112. 3:14neighborhood. So, you know, you know how
  113. 3:16you meet people high and buy, you know,
  114. 3:18but it wasn't Yeah, it wasn't like, you
  115. 3:20know, oh, we're cousin. No, just he
  116. 3:22was taught to go soul winning. So, when
  117. 3:24he won me
  118. 3:26he took me to his grandmother, and she'd
  119. 3:27teach us prayers. And what what was the
  120. 3:29denomination? She was Catholic. His
  121. 3:32uncle on his mother's side became
  122. 3:35Baptist. So, later on at 18 years old
  123. 3:37when that's
  124. 3:39security guard, the guy you're working
  125. 3:40with at the valet at this Bub's
  126. 3:43Bub's City Yeah,
  127. 3:45when you work there and he introduced
  128. 3:47you to the Nation of Islam and you know,
  129. 3:50Farrakhan and all these guys
  130. 3:51at that time, would you say pre-meeting
  131. 3:54him you'd consider yourself a Christian
  132. 3:56or you're a lost teenager kind of going
  133. 3:57through? Yeah, I had pretty much turned
  134. 4:00my back on Christianity. When when you
  135. 4:01left at 10 years old, 1982 you said?
  136. 4:03>> 13. 13 when he 10 he really Yeah, I was
  137. 4:06I think he was 10 he moved. Then I
  138. 4:07started slipping, but around 13 I was
  139. 4:09just uh Gone. Yeah. So, 13 to 18 there's
  140. 4:11nothing.
  141. 4:12>> No. Nothing.
  142. 4:12>> No church, no mentor, no father figure,
  143. 4:15no nothing. Yeah. Did you go to college?
  144. 4:17Are you a good student in school? What
  145. 4:18are you doing in school? Uh
  146. 4:20I was such a good student I got thrown
  147. 4:22out of high school.
  148. 4:23Third year.
  149. 4:24Yeah. In high school? And this is
  150. 4:26Chicago?
  151. 4:27>> Yep. And I got a GED, and never been to
  152. 4:29college, never been to seminary, never
  153. 4:30been to university.
  154. 4:32What what was your you know, what what
  155. 4:34class came easy to you? Are you a math
  156. 4:36guy? Are you an English guy? Are you a
  157. 4:38history guy? Are you I I liked history,
  158. 4:40but not in school. I just hated being in
  159. 4:41school because of my body dysmorphia and
  160. 4:44low self-esteem. I couldn't be around
  161. 4:45crowds. Were you in gangs? Were you a
  162. 4:47troublemaker? Were you I was with the
  163. 4:49gangs, but I wasn't the tough guy. I
  164. 4:50mean, yeah, I hung out with like the
  165. 4:52Assyrian Kings.
  166. 4:54In Chicago. Okay. Assyrian Kings, right?
  167. 4:57Yeah. So, 18 years old you meet this
  168. 4:58guy.
  169. 4:59Did you ever convert and become a Muslim
  170. 5:01or no?
  171. 5:02In my heart, I believe Muhammad was a
  172. 5:04prophet, but it's not good enough
  173. 5:06because if you go with Sunni Islamic
  174. 5:08tradition, you have to take the Shahada
  175. 5:10in front of at least two witnesses. But,
  176. 5:12the guy who's talking about Islam, he
  177. 5:14didn't take me to a mosque. He just was
  178. 5:15talking, and then I started My curiosity
  179. 5:18is such that when I get into something,
  180. 5:20I have to study it. So, if I backtrack,
  181. 5:22like when I like Bruce Lee, I ate up
  182. 5:24every book on Bruce Lee.
  183. 5:26And I would devour hours into Bruce Lee.
  184. 5:28I had to know this guy inside and out.
  185. 5:30When it came to bodybuilding, I would
  186. 5:31devour every bodybuilding magazine. And
  187. 5:34there was Arnold Schwarzenegger's
  188. 5:35encyclopedia, you know, that
  189. 5:37Something about me, when I'm into
  190. 5:39something, I eat it up, and nothing else
  191. 5:41matters.
  192. 5:42It's like I'm just focused on this. The
  193. 5:44world can go to hell. I mean, God
  194. 5:46forbid, but you know, I'm not I'm
  195. 5:48And so, whatever I focus on
  196. 5:50becomes the entire
  197. 5:53>> [clears throat]
  198. 5:54>> center of my life.
  199. 5:56Everything I do revolves around that.
  200. 5:57So, during this time I'm thinking I'm
  201. 5:59really I've deceived myself. I'm going
  202. 6:00to make it to Hollywood.
  203. 6:02The Lord had a sense of humor there.
  204. 6:03>> Yeah, when I was bodybuilding, my goal
  205. 6:06was that I'm going to get into Hollywood
  206. 6:09like these guys. If Bruce Lee did
  207. 6:10martial arts, I'm going to do it
  208. 6:11somehow. I'm going to do it somehow.
  209. 6:13>> So, are you watching Jean-Claude Van
  210. 6:14Damme? Are you watching all these
  211. 6:15movies? Are you watching
  212. 6:16>> watching them, but they never compared
  213. 6:18to Bruce Lee. I would watch Bruce Lee
  214. 6:19all day. You know who's a big Bruce Lee
  215. 6:20guy? Dana White. He is?
  216. 6:22>> You go to his gym and his office, Bruce
  217. 6:24Lee quotes everywhere.
  218. 6:26When you walk into his office, there's a
  219. 6:28Bruce Lee quote on the wall in his
  220. 6:30office. Like Dana's a Bruce Lee fanatic.
  221. 6:34>> So, he does think he's a real He's not a
  222. 6:35fake, huh? No, no, no, no. He's
  223. 6:37Based on the way I had when I was with
  224. 6:39him, it was a lot of respect for him.
  225. 6:41His quotes are all over his gym,
  226. 6:42everywhere.
  227. 6:44As you Okay, so
  228. 6:4518 years old, now is he discipling you?
  229. 6:48Is this guy the same Did he bring you
  230. 6:50anywhere? Did you meet somebody? Did
  231. 6:51someone Did you meet any of the big
  232. 6:53names
  233. 6:54>> Nope. on the Nation of Islam? Nothing.
  234. 6:55It's all independent at 18 years old.
  235. 6:58>> Went to bookstores and 18 years old,
  236. 6:59there's no internet. There is internet,
  237. 7:01but there's not the Google and all that
  238. 7:03stuff because you know, your age where
  239. 7:04you're at. I don't remember using
  240. 7:06internet that time either. It was more
  241. 7:07the AOL chat or whatever it was, right?
  242. 7:09>> that. Yeah, the slow one. Yeah, that's
  243. 7:11right. Net Zero and and all of that.
  244. 7:13Yeah. So, okay, so at this time you're
  245. 7:15going through it, and then you read the
  246. 7:17Quran, and you go through your phase.
  247. 7:19What are you doing occupation-wise? What
  248. 7:21are you doing to make money? At that
  249. 7:23time, I was working security, and
  250. 7:25sometimes I'd work as a tow truck guy.
  251. 7:28Just buy time to get into I'm serious. I
  252. 7:30was really I really thought I was
  253. 7:32delusional. All right. But, how did I
  254. 7:34find
  255. 7:35How did I research? I just go to
  256. 7:36bookstore. There was a Muslim bookstore
  257. 7:38in Chicago, North Side, Devon.
  258. 7:41There was actually two. One of them is
  259. 7:43still there. If the people are watching,
  260. 7:44they'll know what I'm talking about.
  261. 7:45It's by Devon, California. It's called
  262. 7:46Iqra.
  263. 7:47But, in the '90s it was not at that same
  264. 7:50spot. So, I'd go buy Muslim books, and
  265. 7:52I'd go Now, we still have Barnes &
  266. 7:54Noble's, but at that time we also had
  267. 7:56Borders. You guys remember Borders?
  268. 7:58Yeah. I love Borders more than Barnes &
  269. 8:00Noble's, but
  270. 8:01I don't know, man. I just I don't know.
  271. 8:03I just liked it.
  272. 8:04I maybe the colors, who knows, but I
  273. 8:06would go there and try to get books, and
  274. 8:08then Muslim book
  275. 8:10bookstores, obviously. But, what really
  276. 8:13did it for me is I would buy VHS tape
  277. 8:16debates.
  278. 8:17We're living in a time with the VCR,
  279. 8:19VHS. I know some people saying, "What is
  280. 8:21that?"
  281. 8:22They think it's like the way of the dodo
  282. 8:23bird. Betamax, and you know, we had VHS.
  283. 8:26So, they would sell Muslim Christian
  284. 8:29debates. Now, all those debates are
  285. 8:31online on YouTube. But, that time we
  286. 8:33didn't have YouTube. So, I bought them.
  287. 8:36And And I'll tell you how I got into
  288. 8:37apologetics because that was because of
  289. 8:39some Muslim guy who challenged me. But,
  290. 8:41when I watched the debates
  291. 8:44I'm designed in a weird way.
  292. 8:46I learn more from attacks on the faith
  293. 8:48than I learn from defending the faith
  294. 8:49cuz it forces me to think.
  295. 8:51So, I was watching the Muslims
  296. 8:53slaughtering the Christians.
  297. 8:54And it got me to think, "How do I answer
  298. 8:56this guy?" So, that put a fire in me to
  299. 8:58find answers. Now, I was never
  300. 9:00discipled. I didn't have a pastor. I
  301. 9:01didn't have a priest. I didn't have I
  302. 9:03had to just rely on God's spirit to
  303. 9:05guide me to the right sources, find the
  304. 9:07right, let's say, authors, or listen to
  305. 9:09the right Christians. But, when it came
  306. 9:12to Christian Muslim debates, the
  307. 9:13Christians were getting slaughtered.
  308. 9:15I cannot tell you
  309. 9:17of any Christian that I think won a
  310. 9:19debate decisively in the '90s.
  311. 9:21There were some close, but
  312. 9:23for some reason the Muslims were
  313. 9:25slaughtering the Christians. What was
  314. 9:26their angle? What angle did they take
  315. 9:27that Christians didn't have a way to
  316. 9:29defend themselves? Even when it came to
  317. 9:31Christian topics, the Christians were
  318. 9:32doing bad. Like, is the Bible God's
  319. 9:34word? You would have scholars like In
  320. 9:36fact, it's on YouTube. Like the the late
  321. 9:38Dr. Gleason L. Archer who was professor
  322. 9:41emeritus of Now, it's closed, but in
  323. 9:44Deerfield, Illinois, you had Trinity
  324. 9:46Evangelical Divinity Seminary.
  325. 9:49This man was a beast. You know, he's
  326. 9:51since been He's gone with the Lord.
  327. 9:53He would read and write 25 languages.
  328. 9:57Jeez.
  329. 9:58He's amazing. But, when it came to
  330. 9:59debate, he was getting slaughtered.
  331. 10:02And by neophyte Muslims who don't know
  332. 10:03biblical languages. And on topics you
  333. 10:05think it would be easy for him. He was
  334. 10:07just getting slaughtered.
  335. 10:08You'll find on YouTube Gleason Archer
  336. 10:10Muslim debates. Disappointing. Trinity,
  337. 10:12getting slaughtered. Topics that we
  338. 10:14should win.
  339. 10:15It's one thing when you're debating a
  340. 10:16Muslim topic you're not familiar with
  341. 10:18and you know, you have the advantage,
  342. 10:19you're Muslim. But, when it comes to
  343. 10:21your own
  344. 10:22topics and you are bro and he is
  345. 10:24brilliant, but he's not a You better see
  346. 10:25you see some of the debates right there.
  347. 10:27Gleason Archer versus Jamal Badawi, the
  348. 10:28authenticity of the Quran and the
  349. 10:30I mean, it was heartbreaking.
  350. 10:33Because I'm not a scholar. I'm just a,
  351. 10:35you know, teenager and these scholars,
  352. 10:37you know,
  353. 10:39is there a response? So, to tell you how
  354. 10:41I got into this see how God works.
  355. 10:43When I finally did embrace Christ and
  356. 10:45realized that Muhammad was deceived and
  357. 10:48Antichrist. First John 2:22-23.
  358. 10:52I had a friend who used to teach me how
  359. 10:53to box because I used to teach him how
  360. 10:54to bodybuild. I don't want to mention
  361. 10:56his name. I don't know what happened to
  362. 10:57him since.
  363. 10:58And I don't want to get him in trouble.
  364. 11:00I don't know if he's even still in the
  365. 11:01faith, but he was a from a Bosnian
  366. 11:03background. His father was a boxing
  367. 11:05coach.
  368. 11:07And so, he would teach me boxing. I
  369. 11:08would teach him how to lift weights. Cuz
  370. 11:10remember I'm going to get into
  371. 11:11Hollywood, brother.
  372. 11:14>> [laughter]
  373. 11:16>> As I started talking to him about
  374. 11:17Christianity, he started getting
  375. 11:18interested. Now, remember he's Muslim
  376. 11:20background.
  377. 11:22Bosnian Muslim background. Yeah.
  378. 11:23Interesting.
  379. 11:25So, he started
  380. 11:28not going to the Jumu'ah prayers, Friday
  381. 11:30prayers in his community college, Wright
  382. 11:32College.
  383. 11:33So, the Muslims started noticing. So,
  384. 11:35they asked him, "What's going on?" He
  385. 11:36goes, "Well, you know, I'm starting to
  386. 11:38get into Christianity." "Who's the guy?
  387. 11:40Who's been influencing you?"
  388. 11:42Well, I'm a neophyte. I'm green. I don't
  389. 11:43know much about I'm just learning. So, I
  390. 11:45met couple of his friends.
  391. 11:47They brought in a big gun. I don't want
  392. 11:49to mention his name. I don't want to
  393. 11:50give him publicity. You know, it's from
  394. 11:51Chicago. He was a real estate guy from
  395. 11:53South
  396. 11:54Is it South Asia? We'll leave it at
  397. 11:56that.
  398. 11:57He walked in the church that I was in.
  399. 11:58It was a Korean church. He had like a
  400. 12:00folder, you know, binder. I don't know
  401. 12:02what they call it, but
  402. 12:04you know, we don't have it anymore, but
  403. 12:05he came in. He opened it up.
  404. 12:08You know, where they have those rings?
  405. 12:09Mhm.
  406. 12:10Paper? Yeah. He was ready, man. He had a
  407. 12:12combat kit. It's called the Later on I
  408. 12:14realized they call it the combat kit. In
  409. 12:16fact, it was made famous by
  410. 12:18another Muslim debater named Ahmed
  411. 12:19Deedat.
  412. 12:21Ahmed Deedat who since deceased in 2005,
  413. 12:23he became famous when he debated Jimmy
  414. 12:26Swaggart as the Bible God's word.
  415. 12:28And from the Muslim perspective,
  416. 12:30Swaggart got destroyed.
  417. 12:32That made him international. He's from
  418. 12:34South Africa. If you look at it from a
  419. 12:36logical perspective,
  420. 12:38he didn't win.
  421. 12:39But, debates are not won on substance.
  422. 12:41It's won on rhetoric, personality and
  423. 12:45flash.
  424. 12:46And he's very charismatic. He's another
  425. 12:47guy care Jimmy Swaggart did, but he won.
  426. 12:49If you look at just the facts, Swaggart
  427. 12:52won. But, the rhetoric and the
  428. 12:54confidence of Deedat. He was a very huge
  429. 12:56fellow.
  430. 12:57Right? Just impressed and bedazzled the
  431. 12:59Muslims. He was the biggest Muslim
  432. 13:01debater at that time. The second biggest
  433. 13:03is Jamal Badawi who debated Gleason
  434. 13:04Archer. But, coming back to this guy,
  435. 13:07you'll find it here. Deedat Ahmed
  436. 13:08Deedat, Jimmy Swaggart, see?
  437. 13:12These are some of the historic debates
  438. 13:14that are setting the ground for future
  439. 13:16apologists.
  440. 13:17Some of the debates.
  441. 13:19So, this guy had a combat kit cuz if you
  442. 13:21put in Ahmed Deedat combat kit, he wrote
  443. 13:23books for Muslims to take,
  444. 13:26right? Ah, there it goes. Ah, see?
  445. 13:28Against Bible thumpers.
  446. 13:30This guy had his own combat kit, right?
  447. 13:32>> So funny. Yeah, so what he did was he
  448. 13:34had verses of of Bible that contradict.
  449. 13:37Is it If it's God's word, then what do
  450. 13:38you What about these contradictions?
  451. 13:39Now, I'm green. I don't know nothing. I
  452. 13:41have no idea, brother. I'm just I just
  453. 13:43came into faith. Give me a break. No, he
  454. 13:44came
  455. 13:45This is one other reason people say,
  456. 13:47"Why are you so aggressive?
  457. 13:48You know, you're very like sometimes you
  458. 13:50can be very nasty and
  459. 13:52because what I think what he did to me
  460. 13:56impacted me because he was very nasty to
  461. 13:58me.
  462. 13:59And he bullied me.
  463. 14:00And there's something about me that
  464. 14:01triggers me. When I feel I'm bullied,
  465. 14:03right? That's it. Yep. Ahmed Deedat.
  466. 14:06Hey guys, Vincent Oshana here. I
  467. 14:08recently released a new shirt for my
  468. 14:09faith-based line, faith over fear.
  469. 14:11There's a cross on the front and Hebrews
  470. 14:13chapter 11 verse 1 on the back. As
  471. 14:15Christians, we've never seen Jesus face
  472. 14:17to face, but we believe. That's what
  473. 14:19having true faith is. Trusting when we
  474. 14:21can't see. And if you walk by faith, you
  475. 14:23have absolutely nothing to fear. Go to
  476. 14:25vtmerch.com, pick up a shirt. We have
  477. 14:28hoodies. We even have a female line.
  478. 14:29Rock the shirt. Rock it with purpose and
  479. 14:31let the world know who you stand with.
