- 0:25back to another episode of murder and
- 0:28more as always I am your host Kara

- 0:44according to an article written by
- 0:46Carolyn lippo in April 2017 for Redbook
- 0:51magazine traditional wedding vows can be
- 0:54traced as far back as The Book of Common
- 0:56Prayer written by the Archbishop of
- 0:58Canterbury Thomas Cranmer in 1549 the
- 1:02vows have been adapted significantly
- 1:04over the years specifically the vowel we
- 1:07now know is till death do us part in the
- 1:11original version of the book this vowel
- 1:13was known as till death asked apart
- 1:16before it was changed in 1662 to till
- 1:20death us do part it was modified
- 1:23sometime after - what we now know it as
- 1:26till death do us part and has remained a
- 1:29stable part of wedding vows ever since
- 1:31till death do us part is an ominous vow
- 1:34to make with hundreds of thousands of
- 1:37divorces taking place each year in
- 1:39Catholicism till death do us part is
- 1:42taken literally meaning that only God
- 1:45Himself can interfere with a marriage
- 1:46and at the only manner in which a
- 1:49couple's marriage will end as if one of
- 1:51them dies amel cilia's also took the vow
- 1:55extremely literally and couldn't wait
- 1:57for God's interference to end his
- 1:59marriage thus an extravagant murder plot

- 2:11Easter Sunday 2015 was a darlin overcast
- 2:15day gray clouds lingered low in the
- 2:19slightly humid air and the temperature
- 2:20starts at a comfortable 11 degrees
- 2:23Celsius the bank holiday weekend
- 2:26provided the perfect opportunity for
- 2:28skydiving enthusiasts to pursue their
- 2:31passions one such person was 38 year old
- 2:35mother of two Victoria cilia's an
- 2:38ex-army captain an experienced skydiver
- 2:42Victoria had successfully performed over
- 2:452,000 jumps over the years and it stood
- 2:48to reason that this one shouldn't be any
- 2:50different she'd give him birth to her
- 2:52second child six weeks earlier and this
- 2:55was a perfect chance for her to get back
- 2:57into her passion Victoria's husband Emil
- 3:01cilia's shared his wife's passion and
- 3:04was also an avid skydiver with a couple
- 3:07regularly parachuting together it was
- 3:10impossible for Victoria to know however
- 3:12that she was about to experience every
- 3:15skydivers worst nightmare it was 4:15
- 3:19p.m. when Victoria Silius was finally
- 3:22ready to perform her solo jump just as
- 3:25she had done thousands of times before
- 3:27nine other people had successfully
- 3:30jumped out of the plane before her with
- 3:33Victoria being the last person to jump
- 3:35however this jump wasn't as successful
- 3:39as the previous jumpers had been and
- 3:41seconds after leaping from the plane
- 3:444000 feet in the air
- 3:46Victoria realized she was in a crisis
- 3:48the main lines of her parachutes had
- 3:51become entangled causing her to fall
- 3:54fast through the clouds and anyone else
- 3:57this would have instilled instant fear
- 3:59however her experience enabled Victoria
- 4:02to remain calm
- 4:03as she knew she had a reserve canopy for
- 4:06these events panic finally set in
- 4:09however when her reserve parachute also
- 4:12failed to fully deploy and Victoria's
- 4:15calm descent onto the Salisbury Plains
- 4:17turned into a rapid spiraling descent
- 4:20that could only end in disaster
- 4:23being a qualified parachute instructor
- 4:25Victoria had the wherewithal to slow
- 4:28down her descent from a hundred miles an
- 4:31hour to 30 miles an hour
- 4:32but even this speed would still cause
- 4:35her serious injury when Victoria finally
- 4:41landed on the soft ground of a freshly
- 4:43plowed field
- 4:44she suffered spinal injuries as well as
- 4:47breaking some ribs her collarbone and a
- 4:49leg Victoria spent three weeks in South
- 4:53Hampton hospital where she underwent
- 4:55emergency surgery but incredibly
- 4:57survived her terrifying ordeal it's
- 5:00believed that Victoria's slight eight
- 5:03stone frame landing on the freshly
- 5:05plowed field instead of the harsh chalky
- 5:08Solsbury plains were contributing
- 5:10factors in her survival Detective
- 5:13Inspector Paul Franklin of the Wiltshire
- 5:16police was alerted to the suspicious
- 5:18crashed the following day the police
- 5:21initially treated the crash as an
- 5:23accident but a chief instructor he was
- 5:26present at the time the young mother of
- 5:28two crashed to the ground knew and his
- 5:30gut that this wasn't an accident
- 5:32and that something sinister had caused
- 5:34Victoria's rapid descent to earth so
- 5:38much Wilder is still is the chief
- 5:40instructor at another Haven airfield
- 5:42he looked at a parachute so at the main
- 5:44parachute she said it was much more
- 5:45tangled they'd seen and seen plenty of
- 5:48malfunctions he said I've never seen one
- 5:50like this he goes and there it is links
- 5:53missing on the reserve he said I just
- 5:55can't give you an answer of why that
- 5:57should be that shouldn't happen the
- 6:00canopy of the parachute is attached to
- 6:02the harness worn by the individual
- 6:04performing the jump by slinks or soft
- 6:07links and it's without even one of these
- 6:09leaps that a parachute is effectively
- 6:11useless two of this links were missing
- 6:14from Victoria's reserve parachute for no
- 6:17obvious reason rendering it completely
- 6:20ineffective links are the strongest part
- 6:24of the parachute if anything the lines
- 6:26or the canopy itself would have broken
- 6:28first so it was inconceivable that the
- 6:31slinks would have broken or fallen off
- 6:33the parachute on their own due to this
- 6:35the mesons links quickly became the
- 6:37focus of the investigation police issued
- 6:41a press release in an effort to locate
- 6:43the missing links wondering if perhaps
- 6:46they may be found in a field nearby
- 6:48if this links had simply broken this
- 6:51could officially be declared an accident
- 6:54as a result of a kit malfunction but
- 6:57ultimately the missing links were never
- 6:59located forcing police to begin
- 7:02considering the possibility that they
- 7:04were removed on purpose indicating foul
- 7:07play the British parachutes Association
- 7:11conducted their own investigation into
- 7:13the accident and failed to identify any
- 7:16reason why the parachute would have
- 7:19malfunctioned and were unable to rule
- 7:21out the possibility that the parachutes
- 7:24have been interfered with this
- 7:26conclusion gave rise to even more
- 7:28speculation within the police force that
- 7:31this potentially was an attempted murder
- 7:33rather than a simple accident the result
- 7:37of this investigation forced them to
- 7:39perform a much more serious
- 7:41investigation into the suspicious crash
- 7:44with a desperate need to identify who if
- 7:47anyone had the motive to murder Victoria
- 7:50cilia's straight off the bat the police
- 7:53had multiple suspects that they were
- 7:55investigating for five days after the
- 7:58incident on the 10th of April 2015 a tip
- 8:03from one of Victoria's friends would
- 8:04turn the investigation upside down and
- 8:07potentially unlock the motive behind
- 8:10this crime
- 8:12South african-born Emil cilia's was an
- 8:15instructor for the Royal Army physical
- 8:18training corpse when he was treated by
- 8:20physiotherapist Victoria for a skiing
- 8:23accident in 2015
- 8:27the couple had been married for four
- 8:28years and were living in Amesbury with
- 8:30their two young children the youngest
- 8:33being just six weeks old at the time of
- 8:35the crash on the outside Victoria's
- 8:38marriage to Emil cilia's was idyllic
- 8:40they had two beautiful children and a
- 8:43seemingly perfect marriage however under
- 8:47this veneer of perfection the front
- 8:50revealed that the couple had a
- 8:51tumultuous relationship and very quickly
- 8:54Emil cilia's became the focus of the
- 8:57police's investigation regarding taking
- 9:00the friends statement di Franklin said
- 9:03quote there are domestic abuse issues
- 9:06within the relationship that weren't
- 9:08obvious from the outside we're not
- 9:11talking about black eyes and bruises
- 9:13we're talking about unseen stuff and
- 9:15great DC Maddy henna went on to describe
- 9:19Victoria and the meals relationship
- 9:22quote you treat somebody like a princess
- 9:25and then you do something really
- 9:27unacceptable and underhand but when you
- 9:30get found out you treat them like a
- 9:32princess again the woman keeps thinking
- 9:34he's treated me really well I let him
- 9:37off with that one and then it happens
- 9:39again it becomes that she is so squashed
- 9:42by it that she just accepts that that's
- 9:44what life is and quote
- 9:47with the revelation the Victoria animals
- 9:50relationship was a volatile one police
- 9:53believed he was a credible suspect a
- 9:56femicide census conducted by Karen
- 9:59Angela Smith revealed that 61% of women
- 10:02who were murdered in 2018 were murdered
- 10:05at the hands of their current or former
- 10:07partner or husband meaning that police
- 10:10were entirely justified in considering
- 10:13arresting Emil Silius for the attempted
- 10:15murder of his wife officers believed
- 10:18that Emile's arrest would elicit some
- 10:20form of response and display of emotion
- 10:23from him such as anger but they were
- 10:25shocked when they informed a meal that
- 10:27he was being arrested his army barracks
- 10:30on the 28th of April for the suspicion
- 10:32of attempting to murder the mother of
- 10:34his two children and no such emotions
- 10:37were exhibited instead the South
- 10:40african-born Army sergeant remained calm
- 10:43and composed and failed to protest his
- 10:46innocence as the metal cuffs clink shut
- 10:48around his wrists and officers began
- 10:51searching his office this complete lack
- 10:54of any form of emotion regarding being
- 10:57arrested or even being a suspect in the
- 10:59attempted murder of his wife struck
- 11:02police as extremely odd behavior and
- 11:04made a meal look all the more suspicious
- 11:08emil maintained his composure during the
- 11:11interviews - he declined to consult with
- 11:14a solicitor and happily permitted police
- 11:16to question him for six hours without
- 11:18protest
- 11:19Emile's personality rapidly shone
- 11:22through
- 11:22and they began seeing their suspect in a
- 11:25whole new light quote he displays all
- 11:29the traits of a psychopath psychopath
- 11:31sociopath narcissists extreme
- 11:35selfishness he only cares about himself
- 11:37end quote said di Paul Franklin very
- 11:42quickly Emil became extremely open and
- 11:45honest with the police during the
- 11:46interview and readily implied that he no
- 11:49longer cherished his wife it's also no
- 11:52I don't wanna be taking on a leave icky
- 11:55parabola
- 11:56I've got girlfriends and it ain't a
- 11:58girlfriend they were seen as an Austrian
- 12:00national and he puts holidays with them
- 12:03this revelation stunned police in part
- 12:06due to the manner in which he readily
- 12:08offered up the information the police
- 12:11examined Emile's Fame and the analysis
- 12:13corroborated his claims of infidelity
- 12:16Emil was indeed having an affair with an
- 12:19Austrian national whom he'd met on
- 12:21tinder and he was on a skiing trip four
- 12:24months prior to the attempted murder of
- 12:25his wife in the months following the
- 12:28commencement of her meals affair with
- 12:30Stephanie gala and the months prior to
- 12:32Victoria's crash the couple had been in
- 12:35contact almost daily right under
- 12:38victorious knows anything he it is quite
- 12:42strong made over the wife is she just
- 12:45been released from hospital she's in a
- 12:47body brace you've got a very young baby
- 12:49in the mantle resold an Italian police
- 12:52officers about your multiple affairs in
- 12:55your casual sex and a girlfriend and a
- 12:58man there and that was quite striking
- 13:01whilst Emil was happy to provide police
- 13:04information regarding his affair details
- 13:07surrounding the circumstances of the
- 13:09crash and the hours leading up to the
- 13:11crash were slightly more difficult to
- 13:13extract from him there are some of the
- 13:16things he told us about we asked him to
- 13:18give an account was that he was holding
- 13:20a parachute it's already booked out for
- 13:23her he also mentioned he'd taken his
- 13:25daughter to the toilet I was holding it
- 13:28again these were Sade
- 13:30very minimally and brushed over quickly
- 13:32he skips over them he's very quick and
- 13:35he was offered a tangent and again back
- 13:37what he didn't mean anything to us over
- 13:39thee they're just unusually big he
- 13:42hadn't gone it herself that she was
- 13:43jumping but whilst police were
- 13:46questioning Emil other officers were
- 13:48also interviewing Victoria who was very
- 13:51compliant and provided a factual account
- 13:53of her accident
- 13:55it quickly became apparent to police
- 13:58that Victoria had no suspicions of her
- 14:01husband's infidelity and therefore
- 14:03didn't share the police's skepticism
- 14:05regarding her husband's innocence
- 14:08Victoria failed to offer up an
- 14:11explanation as to why both her
- 14:13parachutes failed and it was quite clear
- 14:15she believed it was a simple kit
- 14:17malfunction meanwhile police had to make
- 14:20the agonizing decision as to whether
- 14:22they'll at a meal he was currently under
- 14:25suspicion of attempting to murder his
- 14:27wife go home to her and their two
- 14:29children
- 14:30ultimately the decision was made to
- 14:33release a male on bail with the
- 14:35conditions that he had no contact with
- 14:37Victoria and went anywhere other than
- 14:40his home address the police informed
- 14:43Victoria that they'd arrested her
- 14:45husband and the he'd been released on
- 14:47bail providing he didn't attend their
- 14:49family home Victoria was outraged by
- 14:53this decision and demanded to have her
- 14:55husband home to provide physical
- 14:57assistance with caring for their two
- 14:59young children
- 15:01Victoria's abilities were strictly
- 15:03diminished due to her extensive injuries
- 15:06and body brace and it rapidly became
- 15:08apparent to police that she was in
- 15:10denial that her husband had any
- 15:13involvement in the crash it was late at
- 15:16night when police notified Victoria of
- 15:19her husband's arrest and subsequent
- 15:20bailing they assured her they'd visit
- 15:23her the following day and explained all
- 15:25the details in person however it was
- 15:29going to be tough to prove to Victoria
- 15:31that her husband had attempted and
- 15:33failed to murder her despite a
- 15:35confession that Emil was unhappy in his
- 15:38marriage and was conducting an
- 15:40extramarital affair police had no
- 15:42physical evidence against him to
- 15:44conclusively prove he was responsible
- 15:46for the crash
- 15:48di Phu Franklin had three factors which
- 15:51contributed to his belief that a meal
- 15:54was the reason behind both parachutes
- 15:56failing and he shared these with
- 15:58Victoria the following day
- 16:00first of all Emil had told police he was
- 16:03discontented in his marriage and was
- 16:05planning on leaving her secondly Emile
- 16:07was having an affair with another woman
- 16:09an affair that was deemed by police
- 16:11examining his feign to be a serious
- 16:13relationship and had partaken in
- 16:16multiple extramarital affairs in
- 16:18previous years in fact at the time Emil
- 16:22wasn't just conducting an affair with
- 16:23Stephanie caller but also his ex-wife
- 16:26and mother to his two middle children
- 16:28Carly Celia's Emile's phone proved to be
- 16:32the most damning in providing police
- 16:34with a real insight into his true
- 16:36character quote he can have a
- 16:40conversation with his wife about picking
- 16:42up the children or a bit of shopping at
- 16:44the same time as arranging to meet
- 16:46someone he knows from fab swingers for
- 16:49some weekend fun and during in someone
- 16:51from adult work to see if they're
- 16:53available three totally separate
- 16:56conversations at the same time managed
- 16:59in such a way that there was never a
- 17:01wrong phone call to the wrong person and
- 17:04you see that repeated constantly for
- 17:06years you see what kind of person he was
- 17:09end quote finally the analysis of his
- 17:13phone revealed that Emil had told
- 17:15Stephanie that he believed he wasn't the
- 17:17father of his and Victoria's six week
- 17:19old baby and was intending on having a
- 17:22DNA test to conclusively prove the lack
- 17:25of paternity not only did these three
- 17:28factors contribute to di pool Franklin's
- 17:31belief that Emil had attempted to murder
- 17:33his wife but it also provided a motive
- 17:36to be rid of his wife and gave rise to
- 17:39the possibility that Emil may attempt
- 17:41and potentially be successful in a
- 17:44further attempt on her life if police
- 17:46allowed him to return to the home the
- 17:48couple shared together Paul Franklin
- 17:51vividly recalls sharing these facts with
- 17:54Victoria Silius and recollects just how
- 17:57distraught she was
- 17:59you go through a career in certain bits
- 18:01and you kinda just remain with you and
- 18:04then meeting that I played was one of
- 18:06those and you know you know what you're
- 18:08about to tell I'm about to tell her it's
- 18:10going to be devastating and there's no
- 18:13nice spin on it you can't make it nice
- 18:15you can't make it easy so Riley put it
- 18:17off in a doula and I tell them
- 18:19absolutely that I mean if she screams
- 18:22she cries she's really upset
- 18:25yeah it's heart-rending to see and then
- 18:28after so five ten days and you could see
- 18:30it's sinking in and to this day you are
- 18:34intended for the only time I saw a real
- 18:36Victorian finally Victoria began to
- 18:40accept the possibility that amel Silius
- 18:43wasn't the man she believed she knew
- 18:44just as Paul Franklin was about to leave
- 18:48the home
- 18:49Victoria offered up some information
- 18:51that would ultimately crack the case
- 18:53wide open and shock everyone involved
- 18:58just as Paul Franklin was about to leave
- 19:01he asked if Victoria had any further
- 19:03questions she wished to ask
- 19:05she didn't however she did wish to
- 19:09inform him of a slightly strange event
- 19:11that had occurred the previous week very
- 19:14matter-of-factly Victoria looked at the
- 19:17detective and exclaimed quote were you
- 19:21better know about the gas leak last week
- 19:23and great I don't think I'm sitting in a
- 19:26house as lesser than two years old a
- 19:28week before she falls out were playing
- 19:31the parachute they may be temporaries
- 19:32she's now going that gas leak it ain't
- 19:37right it's my gut reaction now is this
- 19:40is not what these almost like feeling it
- 19:42in now police had not one but two
- 19:45potential attempts on Victoria sylia's
- 19:48life and they believed now more than
- 19:50ever that they were at the hands of her
- 19:52husband di Franklin knew he had to
- 19:55investigate further
- 19:56to determine whether this was in fact a
- 19:59further attempt on Victoria's life or
- 20:01whether it was simply an accident
- 20:03he asked Victoria to come down to the
- 20:05station to be interviewed regarding the
- 20:07events of the week Victoria record in
- 20:10her interview that a few months before
- 20:12the
- 20:12gas leak at their home Emil had begun
- 20:14acting out of character and had made the
- 20:17decision to begin staying at the army
- 20:19base in alder shot Hampshire where he
- 20:21was working as he was tired of driving
- 20:24the hundred mile round-trip every day
- 20:26the evening prior was just like any
- 20:29other ordinary evening a meal had helped
- 20:33Victoria put the children to bed before
- 20:35driving to out a shop to stay at the
- 20:37army barracks to avoid the rush hour
- 20:39traffic when Victoria awake for next
- 20:42morning immediately she knew something
- 20:44wasn't right and instantly recognized
- 20:48the rotten egg type smell in the air as
- 20:50gas pressure I can Windows was
- 20:53anticipated a bit and she texts the
- 20:56neighbors were strange gas smell his
- 20:59text fact was have you turned the stove
- 21:01on just quite incredible he said well no
- 21:05of course not while they do that
- 21:07can you say well then we'll work on busy
- 21:09talk and you deal that and then make
- 21:11sure she did arrange for an emergency
- 21:14gas engine needs to come out and he
- 21:16found her nuts like last part when she
- 21:19thought was loosely just tightened it up
- 21:21slightly
- 21:22he said the porter turn gordon airy and
- 21:25chilling revelation left police more
- 21:28convinced than ever before that emil
- 21:31Silius was a dangerous and callous man
- 21:33not only had he tried to murder his wife
- 21:36twice but one of those times his own
- 21:39children were present in the house
- 21:41despite their mounting concerns police
- 21:44still required physical evidence to
- 21:47present a solid case against a male
- 21:49Silius to the cps di pool franklin
- 21:53obtained the warrant to search the
- 21:55couple's home specifically to perform a
- 21:58forensic investigation on the gas pipe
- 22:00this examination would finally provide
- 22:03police with their first piece of
- 22:05physical evidence on the pipe they
- 22:08discovered minut traces of blood which
- 22:11subsequently matched emil silliest DNA
- 22:13whilst this identified emil as handling
- 22:16the pipe it didn't specify when the
- 22:19blood had been shed on it and he could
- 22:21have quite easily explained the presence
- 22:23of his play
- 22:24away as a botched DIY job so the
- 22:27forensics team pursued with their
- 22:29investigation in an attempt to uncover
- 22:32conclusive proof that a male had
- 22:34interfered with the pipe and caused the
- 22:36gas leak and finally they discovered the
- 22:40evidence they were looking for mold
- 22:42Richmond was on its lips they had pulled
- 22:45back and built up and the actual grip
- 22:48and the marks of left mashing cycling's
- 22:51from all groups that we found in the
- 22:54utility room in a house which one
- 22:56and the worst ones and we proved is
- 22:59there were marks on its hotness that
- 23:01proved it only ever been elusive this
- 23:04was the breakthrough police needed to
- 23:06prove that not only hit a male being in
- 23:09the cupboard where the gas pipe was
- 23:10located but that his tools responsible
- 23:13for loosening the nut that eventually
- 23:15caused the gas to leak out slowly police
- 23:20finally had physical evidence to
- 23:22pinpoint a meal cilia's his being
- 23:25responsible for at least one of the
- 23:27potential attempts from Victoria's life
- 23:29and were able to bring him back into the
- 23:32station for further questioning my
- 23:49friend stated the relation to the
- 23:52motorist was really the NJB flash
- 23:58multipliers that conclusively the
- 24:02looking players were used to possibly a
- 24:06nuisance
- 24:07[Music]
- 24:10Amil attempted to explain away the
- 24:13evidence and told police there he'd used
- 24:16the more grips to both loosen and
- 24:18tighten the nuts in the past however the
- 24:21forensic evidence conclusively proved
- 24:24that this was untrue has been used to
- 24:39[Music]
- 24:46help in the face of damning physical
- 25:18evidence the male Silius was unable to
- 25:20talk his way out of these allegations
- 25:23however police still had a lot of work
- 25:26to do and continue to work tirelessly to
- 25:30prove that Emil had also tampered with
- 25:32the parachute after the gas leak failed
- 25:35to kill Victoria additional texts from
- 25:38the analysis of a male's phone came to
- 25:41light which demonstrated the if Emil was
- 25:44responsible for Victoria's crash it was
- 25:47without a doubt premeditated a mere six
- 25:51hours after he discerned that the gas
- 25:53peak had failed to murder the 38 year
- 25:56old mother of two Emil quickly suggested
- 25:59they go parachuting at the weekend
- 26:01already conjuring up a new plot to
- 26:04murder his wife obviously believing for
- 26:07Emil was a loving husband
- 26:09Victoria readily jumped at the idea of
- 26:11reigniting her passions six weeks
- 26:14postpartum
- 26:16this revelation is just another building
- 26:18block in the case against emil cilia's
- 26:21and proves again that he is a cold
- 26:23callous and dangerous individual in an
- 26:28attempt to proof that Emil was
- 26:30responsible for Victoria's parachutes
- 26:32malfunctions di Paul Franklin approached
- 26:36two different parachute riggers in
- 26:38separate parts of the country a
- 26:41parachute rigger is an individual who's
- 26:44trained to pack maintain and repair
- 26:46parachutes Paul asked the two
- 26:49specialists to purposely attempt to
- 26:52render a parachute ineffective in
- 26:54whichever manner they saw fit both
- 26:57trained riggers demonstrated that a
- 27:00parachute could be tampered with in less
- 27:02than five minutes police quickly learned
- 27:05that Emil had successfully undergone a
- 27:08course in order to become a trained
- 27:10rigger proving he had the knowledge to
- 27:13lethally sabotage both of Victorious
- 27:16parachutes however despite this
- 27:19circumstantial evidence against a meal
- 27:21police still needed to obtain physical
- 27:24evidence to demonstrate that not only
- 27:26had a meal tampered with the parachutes
- 27:28but he'd also ensured Victoria used
- 27:32those specific ones Victoria it was
- 27:35interviewed for a second time regarding
- 27:37the tragic weekend that forever changed
- 27:40her life and once again her testimony to
- 27:43police provided damning evidence against
- 27:45her husband
- 27:47Viktoria record to the police that a
- 27:50male had organized for the family to go
- 27:52to the drop zone together on the
- 27:54Saturday to organize the jump whilst
- 27:57Victoria was ensuring the paperwork was
- 27:59all up together in the office
- 28:01Emil went and booked out the parachute
- 28:04he's believed that after Emil worked out
- 28:07the parachute he managed to sneak it
- 28:09away for long enough in order to
- 28:11lethally sabotage it the expert riggers
- 28:14had already proved that it took just
- 28:16five minutes to render a parachute
- 28:18unusable and Emil had already confessed
- 28:21to the police that after he'd booked it
- 28:23out he'd taken the parachute to the
- 28:25toilet with him where he was completely
- 28:28out of sight of anyone else and had free
- 28:31rein to tamper with it it soon became
- 28:34apparent that the lone grey clouds
- 28:36weren't going to clear rendering it
- 28:39completely impossible for Victoria to
- 28:41jump that day Victoria was happy to
- 28:44reschedule the following day and I'm
- 28:47sure panicking Emil managed to persuade
- 28:49her to put the parachute he'd already
- 28:51booked out into a locker
- 28:53apparently in order to save time the
- 28:55following day in reality we know that
- 28:59the only reason Emil wished to keep the
- 29:01parachute in their locker overnight was
- 29:04because he needed Victoria to use it and
- 29:07to ensure no one else could utilize it
- 29:09instead Victoria was dubious about
- 29:12putting the parachute in her locker
- 29:14as she felt they should give it back but
- 29:17not wanting to cause a scene in public
- 29:19she finally agreed and the parachute is
- 29:22placed into the couple shared locker
- 29:25whilst this was finally the evidence
- 29:27police needed to pinpoint Emil Silius as
- 29:30the attempted killer
- 29:32they now required a strong motive one
- 29:35stronger than a meals wish to leave his
- 29:37wife as he already had two failed
- 29:40marriages behind him the obvious
- 29:42conclusion to his discontentment would
- 29:44have simply been to divorce Victoria as
- 29:47he had done before finally police
- 29:50received the break three they'd worked
- 29:52so hard to achieve and were finally able
- 29:54to prove that not only did Emil silliest
- 29:58try and murder his wife
- 29:59twice
- 30:00in one week but they he had a strong
- 30:03motive to get rid of her
- 30:05police already knew this Emil wish to
- 30:08leave Victoria and begin a new life with
- 30:11Stephanie kala in fact on the 7th of
- 30:14January 2015
- 30:16police uncovered attacks to Stephanie
- 30:19where Emil informed her that as of April
- 30:21he'd be able to be more spontaneous was
- 30:25this because he'd been carefully
- 30:27plotting his wife's murder they knew he
- 30:30was unhappy in his marriage to Victoria
- 30:32but ultimately the reason the meal
- 30:35wanted rid of his wife was the same
- 30:37motive thousands of people use each year
- 30:40to murder their spouse money the root of
- 30:44all evil it was discovered by a
- 30:47financial analyst that Emile's that
- 30:49mounted to over 22 thousand pound and
- 30:53the analyst would soon go on to uncover
- 30:55that not wrong before the two attempted
- 30:58murders on his wife Emil Silius had
- 31:01increased both their life-insurance
- 31:02policies it's one hundred and twenty
- 31:05thousand pound
- 31:07this meant the diffict Oriya had died he
- 31:10would have gained access to the hundred
- 31:12and twenty thousand pound from her life
- 31:14insurance policy which would have been
- 31:16enough money to pay off his mounting
- 31:18debts and build a new life abroad with
- 31:21Stephanie now police had enough evidence
- 31:24to prove Emil Silius had attempted to
- 31:27murder his wife on two separate
- 31:29occasions he had the opportunity to
- 31:32perpetrate both attempts and they'd also
- 31:35proved he had a strong enough motive to
- 31:38commit the murder but just when police
- 31:40believed they had a strong case against
- 31:43Emil sylia's their concerns around their
- 31:45star witness
- 31:46Victoria zillions grew and they began
- 31:49speculating whether she would testify
- 31:51against her husband if victorious still
- 31:55refused to accept that her husband had
- 31:58attempted to murder her and she refused
- 32:00to testify for the prosecution police
- 32:03had to ask themselves whether they would
- 32:05be able to secure a conviction
- 32:07nevertheless police pursued their case
- 32:10against Emil cilia's
- 32:13two and a half years after Victoria's
- 32:15near-fatal crash in September 2017 Emil
- 32:21sylia's was charged with two counts of
- 32:23attempted murder and the trial commenced
- 32:26on the 11th of October that year at
- 32:28Winchester Crown Court Emil maintained
- 32:31his innocence however police remained
- 32:34fairly confident that they'd be able to
- 32:37prove the solidity of their case against
- 32:39him
- 32:40their confidence however would falter
- 32:43when Victoria took to the witness box
- 32:46I wasn't expecting that you go with
- 32:48Albany Hughes him I did expect her to go
- 32:50along and just say what she said in the
- 32:52interviews and then she points of all
- 32:54such areas and then she just went off
- 32:58Flynn said you know the police lied to
- 33:01me and I want to change the story and
- 33:03the police won't allow me to do that and
- 33:05you just sit there just like as really
- 33:07literally really difficult to hear it's
- 33:09just sitting there going like this this
- 33:11is not true this we never did that she
- 33:14we never liked you she's not saying
- 33:16Emile's innocent but she's slightly in
- 33:20the investigation effectively well
- 33:22that's hard to hear it appeared that
- 33:24Victoria was under a meal spell and
- 33:26essentially brainwashed by her husband
- 33:29into believing his innocence
- 33:31this just increased the prosecution's
- 33:33requirement to present an extremely
- 33:36solid case against him a task which they
- 33:39weren't afraid to conduct at the same
- 33:42time however di Paul Franklin knew that
- 33:46the jury would take Victoria's testimony
- 33:48into consideration and her had to
- 33:51question as to whether the jury would be
- 33:53able to find a meal silliest guilty of
- 33:55attempted murder beyond a reasonable
- 33:57doubt based on her testimony and Paul's
- 34:01fears were confirmed when the jury
- 34:03failed to come to a decision on a male's
- 34:05guilt or innocence this was a
- 34:08devastating play for police they'd
- 34:11worked tirelessly for two and a half
- 34:13years for a conviction against him and
- 34:15due to Victoria's testimony against the
- 34:18prosecution it was a hung jury as the
- 34:21jury hadn't acquitted a meal however the
- 34:24prosecution were permitted another trial
- 34:26and the police had to work with the
- 34:28prosecution to ensure their case against
- 34:31a meal with bulletproof in the first
- 34:34trial di Franklin had decided not to
- 34:37submit all the evidence they'd found
- 34:39against a meal searching for and talking
- 34:42to sex workers regularly visiting porn
- 34:45sites and attending swingers clubs in an
- 34:48attempt to diminish Victoria's public
- 34:50humiliation however with the first trial
- 34:54going so horribly wrong di Franklin felt
- 34:57he had no choice but to submit these
- 34:59into evidence to prove that a meal was
- 35:02constantly searching for sex workers the
- 35:06second trial began on the 11th of April
- 35:092018 three years after Victoria's
- 35:12near-fatal crash knowing Victoria would
- 35:16likely testify against the prosecution
- 35:19and accused the police of lying to her
- 35:21for a second time di Franklin built a
- 35:25detailed timeline demonstrating all the
- 35:28times the police had made contact with
- 35:30her at the end of the retrial
- 35:32everyone was on tenterhooks anxious for
- 35:36a meal silliest to be found guilty their
- 35:39prayers were answered
- 35:40and finally di Franklin and his teams
- 35:44three years of hard work had paid off
- 35:46and the jury were able to convict the
- 35:49meal cilia's for two counts of attempted
- 35:51murder against his wife naturally the
- 35:55police were ecstatic with this outcome
- 35:57however of this present in the courtroom
- 36:00appeared to be anything but
- 36:03and the foreman stands up and you just
- 36:05almost holding your breath and when he
- 36:09says guilty it's just like just released
- 36:12you saying yes I look across a meal and
- 36:15is just completely blank and no
- 36:17expression whatsoever I look at Victoria
- 36:19completely blank that expression
- 36:21whatsoever on the 15th of June 2018 mr.
- 36:26justice Sweeney told a meal cilia's that
- 36:29his crimes were quote wicked offending
- 36:33of extreme gravity and quit and went on
- 36:36to say quote your offending was
- 36:39extremely serious with your two attempts
- 36:42to murder your wife they were planned
- 36:44and carried out in cold blood for your
- 36:46own selfish purposes that your wife
- 36:49recovered at all was miraculous she
- 36:52undoubtedly suffered severe fiscal harm
- 36:54and she must have suffered psychological
- 36:56harm in the terror of The Fool and since
- 37:00she appears to have recovered from the
- 37:02physical harm but not having seen her in
- 37:05the witness box at length from the
- 37:07psychological harm and great he went on
- 37:11to sentence Emil to 18 years
- 37:13incarceration at Her Majesty's pleasure
- 37:15for both times he attempted to murder
- 37:18his wife and for endangering his
- 37:20children in the gas leak this was the
- 37:23best outcome police could have received
- 37:25with DI Paul Franklin stating quote from
- 37:29the outset Emil sylia's showed no
- 37:32remorse for what he had done he lied all
- 37:35the way through the two trials but in
- 37:37the end justice won out with the guilty
- 37:39verdicts and now a long prison sentence
- 37:43emile sylia's is dangerous he's a cold
- 37:46callous selfish man who cares only about
- 37:49money in his sexual conquests today's
- 37:52sentencing means that society is a
- 37:54little safer with him locked away
- 37:56I also hope this result means that there
- 37:59can now be some closure for his wife
- 38:01Victoria and her family who were victims
- 38:04in this which a police is dedicated in
- 38:08bringing offenders like sylia's to
- 38:10justice as well as giving help to those
- 38:12who find themselves in subtle abuse
- 38:15and coercive relationships like the one
- 38:18highlighted here often the abuse is not
- 38:21obvious because there may be no physical
- 38:23telltale science or injuries however a
- 38:26victim suffering emotional and financial
- 38:29abuse as in this case can be just as
- 38:32deeply traumatized and quite vast police
- 38:35were extremely satisfied with the result
- 38:37of the retrial and were ecstatic to
- 38:40finally receive justice for Victoria
- 38:42Victoria herself didn't receive the
- 38:46justice in such a positive manner in an
- 38:49interview with ITV she stated quote I've
- 38:52been through every emotion Under the Sun
- 38:55I've had plenty of time to think about
- 38:57things which is probably why and not
- 39:00overtly angry partly because I'm still
- 39:02in shock slightly stunned about the
- 39:05whole thing also I've got two young
- 39:07children and the sole carer for them I
- 39:09can't be angry bitter really emotional I
- 39:12need to keep an even keel for them and
- 39:15quote in another interview she stated
- 39:18quote I have to go I suppose with the
- 39:22verdict it's almost like peer pressure
- 39:24to conform my family friends everyone
- 39:28seems to think they know more than I do
- 39:30they see different evidence to me he'd
- 39:33been unfaithful
- 39:34he'd had issues with money but that is
- 39:37not attempted murder yes I'm hurt and
- 39:39angry but can I see him as capable of
- 39:42murder no end quote
- 39:47Amil Silius is an arrogant callous and
- 39:50dangerous man who showed no emotion
- 39:52regarding his wife's attempted murder
- 39:55and the manner in which he gravely
- 39:57endangered his own children
- 39:59the only time Emil displayed any emotion
- 40:02during the three year investigation was
- 40:05when he revealed the he'd broken up with
- 40:07his girlfriend Stephanie Kola however
- 40:09police believe this was just another
- 40:12attempt to manipulate them into
- 40:14believing he was something other than an
- 40:16emotionless monster
- 40:18police believe Emil Silius had coercive
- 40:21control over Victoria causing her
- 40:24maintained belief that it was
- 40:25inconceivable he was responsible for her
- 40:28attempted murder ultimately this case
- 40:32serves to prove the role police play in
- 40:34protecting the public and the tireless
- 40:37and sometimes thankless work they
- 40:39pretend to bring in the guilty
- 40:41individuals to justice
