  1. 0:00hey guys today i'm going to show you one
  2. 0:03of the strangest underground caves in
  3. 0:06the world
  4. 0:07this just looks like an ancient temple
  5. 0:10right but as we go in through these
  6. 0:14metal doors everything changes it is
  7. 0:17completely pitch black
  8. 0:19my tour guide is shining a flashlight
  9. 0:22but even then we cannot see much so we
  10. 0:26have to use bigger lights to see
  11. 0:29reasonably well
  12. 0:31they have forced me to take a guide
  13. 0:34because there are so many
  14. 0:35interconnecting chambers that i can get
  15. 0:38lost inside and will not know how to
  16. 0:41come out
  17. 0:42but there's another secret reason why
  18. 0:45they don't allow
  19. 0:48anyone alone inside
  20. 0:50because of this
  21. 0:52there's a human body perhaps a mummified
  22. 0:56body inside this big cube-like thing
  23. 1:00according to locals a person by the name
  24. 1:02of paradise
  25. 1:04rests here this is very strange because
  26. 1:07hindus normally burn the dead but we can
  27. 1:11see something very odd you can see fresh
  28. 1:15concrete patches this is definitely done
  29. 1:19recently the guide says it is just a
  30. 1:22routine renovation and he's hurrying me
  31. 1:26to look at other parts of the cave but
  32. 1:29when i went on the other side
  33. 1:32i spotted this
  34. 1:34somebody has made a hole
  35. 1:37to see what's inside or maybe someone
  36. 1:40tried to loot the contents look closely
  37. 1:43this is not a natural deterioration this
  38. 1:46is man-made a deep hole has been drilled
  39. 1:50in
  40. 1:51a large hole of at least three inch
  41. 1:54diameter
  42. 1:55why would someone do this
  43. 1:58who is doing this what is actually
  44. 2:01inside this
  45. 2:02i think this is the reason why they have
  46. 2:05kept this cave locked with an iron gate
  47. 2:08and i think this is why they don't allow
  48. 2:11anybody inside without a guide
  49. 2:14to make sure
  50. 2:16nobody is opening this
  51. 2:19the guide is not allowing me to examine
  52. 2:22this hole further and i have to move on
  53. 2:25but
  54. 2:26what's on top of this is even more weird
  55. 2:29to me
  56. 2:30they have made a pillow-like elevation
  57. 2:33in concrete
  58. 2:35is someone sleeping on this at nights
  59. 2:39but do you see this other structure
  60. 2:41nearby
  61. 2:43people say his belongings are preserved
  62. 2:45inside this one
  63. 2:47these are rituals practiced by ancient
  64. 2:50egyptians only egyptians keep the
  65. 2:53belongings preserved near the dead
  66. 2:57not hindus but when i turn around i can
  67. 3:00see something even more strange there is
  68. 3:02a lingam right opposite to the
  69. 3:05sarcophagus it is against hindu religion
  70. 3:08to put a dead body inside a shrine or
  71. 3:12even near it this lingam has a unique
  72. 3:15smell and it is made of multiple stones
  73. 3:19but here you can see something crazy a
  74. 3:22hole
  75. 3:23on the floor near the lingam but that
  76. 3:27hole has been covered recently by a pile
  77. 3:30of rocks originally the water poured on
  78. 3:34the lingam would have fallen through
  79. 3:36that hole
  80. 3:38but where will it go
  81. 3:40there should be another level a deeper
  82. 3:43underground level
  83. 3:45below this
  84. 3:46there are many secret areas completely
  85. 3:49sealed off in this cave
  86. 3:52the reason for this is not clear
  87. 3:55for example look at this one
  88. 3:58this way is completely sealed off using
  89. 4:01metal bars
  90. 4:03why was it so important to put these
  91. 4:06bars here
  92. 4:07what is on the other side
  93. 4:09what are they hiding from us
  94. 4:12there are also many strange secret
  95. 4:15passages and tunnels which we can miss
  96. 4:18easily
  97. 4:19most tourists will completely miss these
  98. 4:22because the tour guides use small
  99. 4:25flashlights with such narrow vision
  100. 4:29however we can see many such giant holes
  101. 4:33everywhere
  102. 4:34making it look very weird
  103. 4:37watch how many doorways i have to go
  104. 4:40through
  105. 4:41within the next 30 seconds they're not
  106. 4:43straight
  107. 4:44they're made in a crooked fashion
  108. 4:47every time you enter a doorway you will
  109. 4:51find more doorways and you end up
  110. 4:53choosing from multiple passages this is
  111. 4:56exactly like a maze a labyrinth where
  112. 5:00you can easily get lost
  113. 5:03but there is something bizarre the
  114. 5:06doorways are so short and narrow that
  115. 5:10you have to squeeze through them
  116. 5:12almost all of them are less than five
  117. 5:14feet tall so you have to crouch all the
  118. 5:17time
  119. 5:19what you just saw was actually a taller
  120. 5:22doorway but doorways like these are the
  121. 5:26real problem
  122. 5:28this one is probably only three feet
  123. 5:31tall and is not recommended for older
  124. 5:35people and claustrophobes and some may
  125. 5:38argue that it's very hard to cut the
  126. 5:41natural rocks and make these passages so
  127. 5:44the builders must have made short
  128. 5:46passages
  129. 5:48to minimize their work
  130. 5:50but look carefully this is not a cut out
  131. 5:54rock they have built this by putting
  132. 5:56rectangular stone blocks and then they
  133. 6:00have neatly plastered over the wall they
  134. 6:03have artificially created this wall they
  135. 6:06have purposefully made the doorway
  136. 6:09short and difficult to use
  137. 6:12making us wonder if it was used by
  138. 6:15humans
  139. 6:16but it's not just a doorway that's
  140. 6:18really short the entire area is short
  141. 6:23and the guide is making sure i'm not
  142. 6:25hitting my head in the ceiling
  143. 6:28as we go deeper and deeper underground
  144. 6:31the passages are becoming narrower and
  145. 6:34narrower and they're also becoming more
  146. 6:37and more complicated
  147. 6:39built in an extremely crooked fashion
  148. 6:42there are doorways where i cannot even
  149. 6:46crouch through i have to squat
  150. 6:49and walk like a frog to get through them
  151. 6:53and all of them were specifically built
  152. 6:56that way you can see the well plastered
  153. 6:58walls
  154. 7:00doorways are normally made to enter and
  155. 7:03exit easily
  156. 7:05but why do they have to make them
  157. 7:07deliberately difficult for humans to get
  158. 7:10through
  159. 7:12in some of the doorways you can see
  160. 7:13mysterious figures carved
  161. 7:17who are they why is this figure looking
  162. 7:20at the doorway as though it is expecting
  163. 7:24someone
  164. 7:25now who built this cave and when
  165. 7:28the standard answer given by the guide
  166. 7:30is that it was built
  167. 7:331700 years ago by a king
  168. 7:36who was defeated and wanted to hide from
  169. 7:39his enemies
  170. 7:41this is a ridiculous story you know how
  171. 7:45big this artificial cave is
  172. 7:47it has an area of more than 6 million
  173. 7:52square feet this is 100 times the size
  174. 7:56of an american football field but it
  175. 7:59also goes at least 80 feet deeper
  176. 8:03making it even bigger to build an
  177. 8:06underground cave like this you need
  178. 8:08thousands and thousands of strong men
  179. 8:11and with those men
  180. 8:13the king could have easily defeated his
  181. 8:16enemy
  182. 8:17rather than building this cave and there
  183. 8:20is no way such a large construction
  184. 8:23project can be done secretively
  185. 8:27some argue that this was built as a
  186. 8:29school but what is the need to build an
  187. 8:32underground school with a complex
  188. 8:36maze-like design
  189. 8:38imagine creating something like this
  190. 8:41today it would be a monumental task
  191. 8:44even with modern machines first you have
  192. 8:47to scoop out all the natural rocks worth
  193. 8:51this huge volume then you have to
  194. 8:55cut giant granite blocks and make them
  195. 8:58into pillars and beams then these have
  196. 9:02to be placed everywhere to make sure the
  197. 9:05cave will not collapse over time or
  198. 9:08during earthquakes
  199. 9:10these are the very basic parts of this
  200. 9:13construction and i'm leaving out the
  201. 9:15complexities like design
  202. 9:18water harvesting and ventilation for now
  203. 9:21but constructing something like this
  204. 9:23today will be very difficult and nearly
  205. 9:28impossible
  206. 9:29without machines
  207. 9:31but
  208. 9:32when was the structure
  209. 9:34originally built some experts claim it
  210. 9:37was built 1
  211. 9:39700 years ago but when i digged into old
  212. 9:44archaeological reports i found something
  213. 9:47shocking it could have been built
  214. 9:50three thousand two hundred years ago
  215. 9:53earliest excavations show that they
  216. 9:56found objects belonging to the iron age
  217. 10:00meaning that the cave was used
  218. 10:033200 years ago even more shocking they
  219. 10:07found part of another sarcophagus
  220. 10:10very similar to the egyptian mummy
  221. 10:13holders they also found an ancient pot
  222. 10:17with human remains inside
  223. 10:19they also found a variety of coins
  224. 10:23revealing
  225. 10:24international connections a roman
  226. 10:27daenerys coin a chinese coin belonging
  227. 10:30to king wuti
  228. 10:32and an indian coin of satavachana period
  229. 10:36all dating
  230. 10:38much older than
  231. 10:401700 years
  232. 10:42these coins take the cave at least 500
  233. 10:46years backwards trade and foreign
  234. 10:49connections must have existed
  235. 10:52even around 200 bc
  236. 10:55normally wikipedia gives timelines of
  237. 10:58all ancient structures
  238. 11:00but we can understand why
  239. 11:03it does not say anything about the
  240. 11:05timeline of chandravali caves because
  241. 11:09it's shrouded in mystery here is a very
  242. 11:13strange structure
  243. 11:14can you tell me
  244. 11:16what it is
  245. 11:17the guide explains it as a throne
  246. 11:21but nobody can sit comfortably on this
  247. 11:25it has a depression inside you cannot
  248. 11:28sit in any angle
  249. 11:30where would you put your back and where
  250. 11:33would you put your legs you can only go
  251. 11:36in and lie down
  252. 11:39like it's a coffin
  253. 11:40so what is it
  254. 11:43at the back there is something scary
  255. 11:45that hole is only one foot wide
  256. 11:48how can somebody crawl through that
  257. 11:51why does it have tiny steps in it if
  258. 11:56somebody manages to crawl through
  259. 11:59why do they need steps
  260. 12:01because steps are made for walking right
  261. 12:04how tiny do you have to be
  262. 12:06if you're walking through these steps
  263. 12:09and entering or exiting this doorway
  264. 12:13what is actually behind this wall
  265. 12:17on the other side
  266. 12:19there is nothing here the doorway is on
  267. 12:22the left
  268. 12:23why did they make such a small hole to
  269. 12:26reduce effort instead of making a big
  270. 12:29doorway they just made a smaller hole
  271. 12:32no again this is an artificial wall
  272. 12:35built by them so the hole was
  273. 12:37specifically designed to be small
  274. 12:40the guide explains this area as a
  275. 12:43bedroom where people will sleep
  276. 12:46these are supposedly beds made of brick
  277. 12:50this is mind-boggling to me look at the
  278. 12:52ceiling it's very low
  279. 12:54it's impossible to stand erect in those
  280. 12:58areas there is a giant slope on the side
  281. 13:02which has many different levels it
  282. 13:05reminds me of factories where goods will
  283. 13:08move in a conveyor belt system to
  284. 13:11various paths
  285. 13:13but one thing is clear this was not made
  286. 13:16for humans
  287. 13:17these are not beds for sleeping you
  288. 13:20cannot sleep there your breath will hit
  289. 13:23the ceiling and return back to your face
  290. 13:26if you manage to crawl up and lie down
  291. 13:29there
  292. 13:29this is not a doorway and on the other
  293. 13:32side that is definitely not a throne
  294. 13:37so what is the actual purpose of this
  295. 13:40cave
  296. 13:41why was it built
  297. 13:43the common narrative that it was a
  298. 13:46hideout or a school
  299. 13:48is wrong
  300. 13:49so why did they decide to dig in this
  301. 13:53area they did not just make an
  302. 13:56artificial cave they have built an
  303. 13:58underground cave going deep into the
  304. 14:02ground i think we're only looking at the
  305. 14:05tip of the iceberg there are much deeper
  306. 14:08tunnels and passages sealed off
  307. 14:11so why did ancient builders
  308. 14:14painstakingly dig so deep
  309. 14:17were they mining for gold
  310. 14:21this region the state of karnataka is
  311. 14:24very rich in gold and many unexplained
  312. 14:27structures here
  313. 14:29prove that this was a mining site
  314. 14:32for example look at this the guide calls
  315. 14:36the structure a bathtub but it looks
  316. 14:39complicated there is one large tank
  317. 14:42that is flanked by another smaller tank
  318. 14:46we can see the holes at the bottom
  319. 14:48but such a complex system is not needed
  320. 14:52for taking a bath
  321. 14:55he says this is a sofa nearby for
  322. 14:58resting immediately after the bath
  323. 15:01i have never seen anyone take rest after
  324. 15:04a bath it must be really tiring to take
  325. 15:07a bath here
  326. 15:09but this is actually a washing system
  327. 15:12for gold they call it a wash plant even
  328. 15:16today people take gold ore from the
  329. 15:18ground and pass it through multiple
  330. 15:21tanks for washing and to extract pure
  331. 15:25gold this is a modern wash plant and you
  332. 15:28can see the similarity of how water and
  333. 15:32the ore is running through multiple
  334. 15:34stages in several containers
  335. 15:38now we can understand the purpose of the
  336. 15:40so-called throne
  337. 15:42it is a shallow tank to wash or process
  338. 15:46gold and the whole above would have been
  339. 15:50used to drop gold ore or water or both
  340. 15:54into the tank
  341. 15:56if you look at a modern-day sluice box
  342. 15:59in gold mining it has tiny little steps
  343. 16:02to create deposits just like what we see
  344. 16:06in this hole perhaps this was a similar
  345. 16:11system
  346. 16:12but there is something much more
  347. 16:14brilliant designed here the ancient
  348. 16:17builders must have designed a water
  349. 16:19channel system that brings water
  350. 16:22from an outside source we can see water
  351. 16:26still getting channeled here but the
  352. 16:29ancient pipeline system must have gotten
  353. 16:32clogged and nobody knows how to fix it
  354. 16:35they probably don't even know
  355. 16:38it exists
  356. 16:40this is why we still see water
  357. 16:43leaking in several places
  358. 16:46maybe gold mining explains why there are
  359. 16:50pots drawn everywhere you can see three
  360. 16:53pots carved here and
  361. 16:55in the center there is a container
  362. 16:58inside it you can see more pots
  363. 17:01symbolizing
  364. 17:03gold and richness
  365. 17:05but there's something else on the walls
  366. 17:08that is even more strange
  367. 17:10what are these spaces
  368. 17:13according to the guide these are lamp
  369. 17:15holders people would put a simple oil
  370. 17:19lamp in every dome-shaped structure
  371. 17:22because it is dark in here
  372. 17:25but why would an entire wall be covered
  373. 17:29with these lamp holders
  374. 17:31how many lamps do they need in a single
  375. 17:34room
  376. 17:35it doesn't seem likely that you need 20
  377. 17:38lamps on one side of the room and the
  378. 17:42other walls are all blank
  379. 17:44even more interesting in some areas
  380. 17:47especially in dark areas
  381. 17:50there are no lamp holders where you
  382. 17:53actually need light
  383. 17:56another mystery is the ventilation
  384. 17:59system this is supposedly the deepest
  385. 18:02area i'm allowed to be in it is 80 feet
  386. 18:05deep
  387. 18:06yet there is excellent airflow in here
  388. 18:10i'm not short of breath
  389. 18:12this means there are ventilation shafts
  390. 18:16from the ground level connecting all the
  391. 18:19underground chambers
  392. 18:22most ancient underground structures like
  393. 18:24daryn kuyu and elora caves used
  394. 18:28cylindrical ventilation shafts
  395. 18:31to supply oxygen to deep chambers
  396. 18:36so this cave was not built in a hurry it
  397. 18:39is a very well planned structure
  398. 18:42from start to finish
  399. 18:45this is evident when we can see five
  400. 18:47different materials
  401. 18:48used as a part of construction
  402. 18:51square granite blocks
  403. 18:54bricks
  404. 18:55lime mortar
  405. 18:57dirt
  406. 18:58and the natural overhanging rock
  407. 19:01as the ceiling
  408. 19:02so what do you think do you believe in
  409. 19:05the conventional theory
  410. 19:08or
  411. 19:09was this an ancient gold mining site
  412. 19:13i hope you liked this video please
