  1. 0:00Welcome back to seven tips for writing a
  2. 0:01short film that you can actually make.
  3. 0:03Here's tip number four. Keep your short
  4. 0:05film short. I know that sounds obvious,
  5. 0:07but so many times I see young writers
  6. 0:10try to write a 15, 17, 20-page script,
  7. 0:12and I would actually encourage you on
  8. 0:14your first go around to try to keep that
  9. 0:15between five and nine pages. Tip number
  10. 0:18five is to write what you already have
  11. 0:19access to. Does your dad own a cool
  12. 0:21restaurant? Do you have access to a prop
  13. 0:23that might look really cool on camera?
  14. 0:25Make a list of these things and try to
  15. 0:27structure your short film around some of
  16. 0:29these things. Tip number six is a little
  17. 0:31bit outside the box. Most states have a
  18. 0:34film festival. In fact, most states have
  19. 0:35lots of film festivals. If you can
  20. 0:37volunteer as a screener for one of these
  21. 0:39festivals, you'll get a
  22. 0:41behind-the-scenes inside look at the
  23. 0:42shorts that are being submitted to
  24. 0:44festivals, and you'll see what the
  25. 0:45clichés are and how to avoid them. And
  26. 0:48tip number seven is to write visually.
  27. 0:50Write so that you can picture the shots
  28. 0:52in your mind. Not only will this help
  29. 0:54you when you get to set, it'll help
  30. 0:55communicate to your crew what you're
  31. 0:57trying to achieve.
