- 0:00hi again this is Kevin and thanks for
- 0:01joining me for the last module of the
- 0:03ninja Japanese sentence formula this is
- 0:05module 6 and we're going to talk about
- 0:07adjectives conjugation as you can
- 0:10probably guess just like verbs it's
- 0:12really useful to know how to change
- 0:13adjectives to their past tense and also
- 0:15how to negate them so let's go over how
- 0:17to do that now unlike verbs which have
- 0:21three types in the Japanese language
- 0:23adjectives really only fall into two
- 0:25main categories so let's start off with
- 0:28type 1 adjectives these adjectives are
- 0:30typically referred to as not adjectives
- 0:32and some examples are today which is
- 0:34beautiful and calm down which is easy
- 0:37the reason they're referred to as not
- 0:39adjectives is because you want to append
- 0:42a not after the adjectives when you're
- 0:44describing something so for example if
- 0:45you wanted to say beautiful flower you
- 0:48would never say today Hana you would say
- 0:50today and not Hana okay then we have
- 0:54type 2 adjectives and that's pretty much
- 0:55everything else and those are called
- 0:57EE adjectives examples of these are
- 1:00kawaii which is cute and shidou which is
- 1:03white all right so let's start off with
- 1:06type 1 adjectives and the key here is to
- 1:09not change the adjectives itself so
- 1:11using our example that we just used
- 1:13which is beautiful flower kid and Ahana
- 1:15so that's the present tense right if we
- 1:18wanted to make that the past tense we
- 1:20keep that first part and just change it
- 1:22to see Dana Hanna gotta it was beautiful
- 1:26see Dana ha-ah all right if you wanted
- 1:30to negate that we could say today and
- 1:32Ahana John I see Dana Han on John Knight
- 1:35so if this is not a beautiful flower and
- 1:38if you wanted to say this wasn't a
- 1:40beautiful flower past- you could say ki
- 1:43Dana Hana janicot stop cheating on
- 1:47Anjana
- 1:48alright so it's you take the base
- 1:51sentence the present tense sentence and
- 1:52then you just change the endings make
- 1:55sense alright so let's move on to type 2
- 1:57adjectives so the e adjectives so the
- 2:00key to conjugating ee adjectives is to
- 2:03just drop the e and change the adjective
- 2:05itself so type one adjective leave the
- 2:07adjectives alone
- 2:09ee adjectives we want to change the
- 2:10adjective so let's look at a really
- 2:12simple example just
- 2:13single adjective let's look at the
- 2:15adjective white oh so it's already
- 2:18in its present tense or if you
- 2:21wanted to go to the past tense we would
- 2:23drop the e and change it to Shiro kata
- 2:26and again that TT is showing up
- 2:28Shiro kata if we wanted to change it to
- 2:32its negative it would be shiro kunai
- 2:34Shiro kunai and then if you wanted the
- 2:37past negative it would be shiro gonna
- 2:39cut that oku Nakata and that's it
- 2:43we can use this for any adjectives let's
- 2:45do another one really quickly here what
- 2:47about kawaii cute present tense would be
- 2:50kawaii past tense would be kawaii kata
- 2:54negative is collide kunai and past
- 2:58negative is collide guna kata all right
- 3:01so you just change that last letter into
- 3:04either kata kunai or Kuna kata and
- 3:07that's it well it congratulations
- 3:09believe it or not you've just completed
- 3:11the six part ninja Japanese sentence
