MINECRAFT JUST GOT ANOTHER NEW BOSS… WITH BIG NEW PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?! — Transcript

- 0:00All right.
- 0:02So, it feels like it was just yesterday
- 0:03that we were learning about a brand new
- 0:05position over at Mojang and wondering
- 0:07about the future and the implications of
- 0:09it. Katie Scott over at Mojang, the head
- 0:12of vanilla Minecraft, a big wig role.
- 0:15And relatively new, she jumped into the
- 0:17position this year in April. And now,
- 0:20well, now just like its parents company,
- 0:22Xbox yet another shakeup. A brand new
- 0:26lead of vanilla, some brand new vanilla
- 0:28initiatives. And over at Xbox, a brand
- 0:30new CEO. Now, one more change closer to
- 0:33home. Over at Mojang, a brand new boss
- 0:36as well. In honor of my brand new
- 0:39Netherite outfit, smash that like
- 0:40button, please. It took a lot of work to
- 0:42look this pretty. And now that new boss
- 0:45and the future of Minecraft, what it
- 0:47means for it. Ever since the very first
- 0:50moments that Asha took her new role at
- 0:52the helm of Xbox, she's been locked into
- 0:55Minecraft and basically spoiling us.
- 0:57Compared to the previous CEO, she is
- 1:00refunding investment into Minecraft,
- 1:02putting even more focus on Minecraft and
- 1:04even trying to push and celebrate
- 1:06Minecraft directly herself. With Mojang
- 1:09being underneath Xbox and a change
- 1:11happening over at Xbox involving the
- 1:13leadership or anything major like that,
- 1:15it's bound to affect Mojang in some sort
- 1:17of weird trickle down way. Just this
- 1:19past week, a gigantic announcement. I'm
- 1:21not sure if you heard about it, but our
- 1:22wonderful new Xbox CEO has declared that
- 1:25Xbox has returned to growth. Yep, that's
- 1:29right. When she took over Xbox earlier
- 1:31this year, Xbox as a gaming brand and
- 1:33studio as a whole had been on the
- 1:36decline for years on years now under the
- 1:39previous CEO Tim Scott. She jumped in,
- 1:42pushed some buttons, and put a little
- 1:43bit more focus on the craft. And now
- 1:46Xbox is growing. But alongside that
- 1:49brand new revelation of growth, we have
- 1:51a brand new division at Xbox 2 that
- 1:54mirrors exactly what Mojang and
- 1:56Minecraft have been doing for a minute.
- 1:58Asha announced that XP is a brand new
- 2:02Xbox division that is making its way to
- 2:04the world. Well, like yesterday, this
- 2:08announcement right here is a relatively
- 2:10blah blah typical business bigwig talk
- 2:13type announcement. But long story short
- 2:15right here, the ambition over at Xbox is
- 2:17to be the number one entertainment
- 2:19company in the world. That means the
- 2:21games need to become franchises and
- 2:23those franchises need to become more
- 2:26than just a digital product. That's
- 2:28where this brand new XP Xbox division
- 2:31comes in. XP is a new Xbox division
- 2:34helmed by none other than Kaen Waters.
- 2:38Now look, man, I'll admit it. Kaen
- 2:39Waters is practically a household name.
- 2:41you already know who Kaen Water is.
- 2:44Like, dude, if you don't know who Kaen
- 2:45Water is, who are you even? Like, bro,
- 2:47come on.
- 2:49But in case you're one of those who
- 2:51don't know who Kaen Waters is, well, she
- 2:54was actually one of the helms over at
- 2:56MoJ for a long time. This brand new XP
- 2:59division is going to span film and TV,
- 3:02consumer products, so like merch,
- 3:04strategic partnerships, so brand
- 3:06collabs, and live experiences, IRL
- 3:09events. As we know for Minecraft over
- 3:11the past few years, there have been more
- 3:13collabs than ever, more IRL experiences
- 3:15than ever, and definitely more movies
- 3:18still waiting on that Netflix TV show,
- 3:20but more movie than ever before. The
- 3:22formation of this XP division is going
- 3:25to formalize investment in pictures.
- 3:27sold things like film and TV products,
- 3:30so merch places, so locations that you
- 3:32can go to, and brand partnerships.
- 3:35Throughout her career, Kaen worked at
- 3:37Luca Films, but more important to us,
- 3:40Mojang. Under her tenure, Minecraft grew
- 3:42from 350 millunits to 425
- 3:46and a bunch of the merch taking off.
- 3:49throwback Thursday to this Minecraft
- 3:51Live when we got a little bit more
- 3:52information on Minecraft World, the IRL
- 3:55theme park that the developers have been
- 3:57working on over in Chessington. It's a
- 3:59Bratish theme park where you'll be able
- 4:01to go over there and be brish and ride
- 4:03Minecrafty roller coasters and IRL
- 4:05experiences. It looks like the theme
- 4:08park is coming along quite nicely. But
- 4:10if you can remember back to the
- 4:11beginning when this was announced, there
- 4:13is meant to be, I think, more than one
- 4:15theme park across the world in time. The
- 4:19theme park is one of the big
- 4:20accomplishments that Caen was able to
- 4:21lock in for Minecraft and now she's
- 4:23going to do it for the rest of the Xbox
- 4:25franchises. Bethesda, you name it. Now,
- 4:28it's kind of interesting because it
- 4:30almost seems like Minecraft has been a
- 4:32little bit of the like the test dummy.
- 4:34Xbox had this idea for a little bit more
- 4:36IRL events and Mojang was the candidate
- 4:39number one. They kicked everything off
- 4:41it seems like over a year ago at this
- 4:43point with the villager rescue
- 4:45experiences. Now it seems like Minecraft
- 4:47Experience is still traveling the globe
- 4:48to this day and going strong. They
- 4:50haven't brought one anywhere near me, so
- 4:52I haven't been able to check it out
- 4:54quite yet, but Minecraft Experience is
- 4:56very much so still a thing. Honestly,
- 4:59when this thing was first announced, I
- 5:00was a little bit nervous that it was
- 5:02going to be like a oneanddone thing, but
- 5:03that doesn't seem to be the case. Xbox
- 5:05is keeping it rocking. And they even
- 5:08moved on from just the villager
- 5:09experience to a moonlight experience
- 5:11down in South America as well. Then, you
- 5:14know, we got that beautiful theme park
- 5:15that Mojang is doing. And brand new,
- 5:17this Minecraft Live, we've got a
- 5:19Minecraft, well, a Minecraft hotel that
- 5:22they are working on, too. Guys, I'm
- 5:24going to be honest. Guys, I'm going to
- 5:26be honest. I don't know who is asking
- 5:27for a Minecraft hotel, but it does sound
- 5:29pretty cool. Yeah. So, Minecraft theme
- 5:31park is getting a Minecraft hotel as
- 5:33well. This is exactly what Xbox is
- 5:35trying to do with all of the other
- 5:37brands that it owns. But I think it
- 5:39stretches even farther. The new
- 5:41leadership over at Xbox, their big focus
- 5:43on more connection to the fans and IRL
- 5:45events and things. Well, this year we
- 5:47had that bonus Minecraft live. I feel
- 5:49like that might be part of their
- 5:50initiative to bring the games closer to
- 5:53the people. And a good look into the
- 5:54future of Minecraft and what might be
- 5:56changing next. Yes, if you thought two
- 5:58Minecraft lives was crazy and then this
- 6:00year you got hit with three Minecraft
- 6:02lives, I almost feel like three
- 6:05Minecraft lives or maybe even four, one
- 6:07for each quarter, well, it might almost
- 6:09become a norm or a target of Xbox in
- 6:12this brand new division in the future
- 6:13with them trying to make every brand
- 6:16more interactive and connected to the
- 6:17fan. Well, what better way to connect
- 6:19with the fans than have even more
- 6:21events. And with one of those events
- 6:23being in person, the Minecraft Live that
- 6:25happened in May, it almost seems like a
- 6:27return to the golden Minecon events of
- 6:30old. But hold on a minute. If Asha is
- 6:33taking Caine Waters and moving her over
- 6:35to a bigger position over at Xbox, what
- 6:38the heck happens to Mojang? Well, that
- 6:41right here is where we get our brand new
- 6:43helm of Mojang beginning October 19th.
- 6:46So, 10 days from now, Maria Angelo
- 6:50Smith. This marks yet another big
- 6:54leadership change for Mojang this year.
- 6:56It's wild. These Xbox changes that took
- 6:58off happening this year, they're
- 7:00affecting Minecraft and Mojang big time.
- 7:03Our brand new head of Mojang in
- 7:06Minecraft is coming over to us from
- 7:08positions at Facebook and Reddit. She
- 7:11will officially become the CEO of Mojang
- 7:1310 days from now. This was announced by
- 7:16Asha in a message to Xbox. Our brand new
- 7:19Mojang CEO. Her career has revolved
- 7:21around major digital platforms. You
- 7:23know, Reddit is pretty big deal. She
- 7:25also worked on tech teams before joining
- 7:28Reddit. Pretty much right away, our
- 7:30brand new CEO of Mojang plans to meet
- 7:32with the developers themselves and kind
- 7:35of get in the loop with everything. But
- 7:36with a new CEO now over at Mojang, what
- 7:39exactly can we expect? As we know, with
- 7:42the big announcements that happen at
- 7:43Minecraft Live Fall, this next year is
- 7:45going to be massive for Minecraft. It
- 7:47looks like Xbox is really truly trying
- 7:49to gear up for that by getting those
- 7:51brand new leadership roles, those shoes
- 7:53filled a little bit before the big year
- 7:55of 2027. So, everyone has time to get
- 7:57used to their new jobs at MoJ. But what
- 8:00about people like Jeb and Agnes? Well,
- 8:02don't you worry because for quite some
- 8:04time now, Jeb hasn't been the CEO. He's
- 8:07actually the CCO, chief creative
- 8:10officer, like the guy with the biggest
- 8:12vision for Minecraft. And then Agnes is
- 8:14one of like the leaders for Minecraft as
- 8:16a brand. and I forget her exact position
- 8:18title, but she decides what's actually
- 8:20in the updates. And both of those roles
- 8:23are not the CEO. So, our biggest people
- 8:25over at Mojang are still there, and all
- 8:27of the developers underneath them still
- 8:29there as well. So, thankfully, our new
- 8:31CEO at Mojang isn't going to change
- 8:34anything directly involving updates or
- 8:37things like that, at least not
- 8:38immediately. Instead, here big beautiful
- 8:41news. We know that our new CEO at Mojang
- 8:44actually her biggest focus here is to
- 8:46listen to us the community. So if
- 8:48anything does change in theory the
- 8:51changes should end up being just more of
- 8:54things that we want that could end up
- 8:56reflecting into vanilla gameplay updates
- 8:58down the road with more community
- 9:00requested features. But in the short
- 9:02term immediately for this next winter
- 9:04drop and maybe even the sift update
- 9:07probably not too much of a change there.
- 9:09Looking at our new CEO's repertoire of
- 9:11experiences building social platforms, I
- 9:14wonder if Mojang will continue to build
- 9:16out this whole friend system almost into
- 9:19a new social platform or something like
- 9:22it. Maybe not like a large scale
- 9:24platform or anything like that, but just
- 9:25an easier way to connect with other
- 9:27people who play Minecraft and maybe your
- 9:29friends, people you meet, whatever. But
- 9:32the biggest change that I foresee under
- 9:34our new CEO at Mojang and this new XP
- 9:37division at Xbox is how Minecraft
- 9:40interacts with us inside of the real
- 9:42world, aka live events. If you've got a
- 9:45new leader over at Mojang and that
- 9:47leader's main job is to listen to the
- 9:50community and then you've got a new
- 9:51division at Xbox that main job is to
- 9:54take Minecraft into the real world and
- 9:56expand the brand. Well, all signs point
- 9:58towards the inevitable biggest request
- 10:00of all time, the return of Minecon.
- 10:04Directly, what I think we can expect
- 10:05over the next few years here is maybe
- 10:08possibly the return of IRL events that
- 10:11you can actually go to and interact with
- 10:13Minecraft stuff alongside the big
- 10:16announcements. Also, just about a month
- 10:18ago, Mojang partnered with a creator,
- 10:20Topo, for a big event where they made
- 10:23some announcements about the upcoming
- 10:24game drops. I think we'll end up seeing
- 10:26Mojang partner with more creatorled
- 10:29events. I do believe in time in the
- 10:31vanilla game, we'll end up seeing even
- 10:33more community requested features dumped
- 10:35into the game thanks to all of these big
- 10:36changes. And then outside of just
- 10:38Minecraft, I think other games at Xbox,
- 10:41other franchises will probably see an
- 10:43expansion as well. Here's to hoping that
- 10:46this means Fallout 2. Dude, I need a new
- 10:48game. I need more Fallout stuff. It's
- 10:49been way too flipping long. So, a brand
- 10:52new CEO at Mojang and a brand new vision
- 10:54at Xbox that is modeled off of
- 10:56everything Minecraft has been doing
- 10:58lately. What do you think? Are you
- 11:00nervous? Are you hype? Your takes,
- 11:01thoughts, let me know down below. Thank
- 11:03you all for watching today's video. Hope
- 11:06it was interesting. Make sure like,
- 11:07subscribe, and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 11:09Goodbye. Muchachos.
