3. 0:05went to prison for killing his wife his
4. 0:07attorneys say new DNA results prove
5. 0:10Michael Morton did not kill his wife
6. 0:12back in 1986 his attorneys want him
7. 0:15released immediately this case goes back
8. 0:17a quarter century when Christine Morton
9. 0:20was beaten to death in her Round Rock
10. 0:21home back in
11. 0:231986 the next year her husband Michael
12. 0:26convicted of killing her and sentenced
13. 0:28to life in prison but in August of this
14. 0:30year a bombshell in court new DNA
15. 0:33testing on a bloody bandana discovered
16. 0:35near the crime scene found Christine's
17. 0:37DNA mixed with the DNA of a known
18. 0:39violent offender not Michael Morton and
19. 0:43then last week another bombshell in
20. 0:44court that the case may be related to
21. 0:47another case in Travis County a hearing
22. 0:49for Morton is underway right now in
23. 0:51Georgetown let's get the latest from

26. 0:58Michael Morton has been in prison as you
27. 1:00mentioned for 25 years for killing his
28. 1:03wife we are actually still waiting for
29. 1:05this hearing to begin it was set to
30. 1:07start at 11:00 this morning obviously
31. 1:09things running a little bit late and we
32. 1:11have just been told that the attorneys
33. 1:13on both sides have been called back into
34. 1:15the judges Chambers for a private
35. 1:17conference now the reason we say this
36. 1:19could be a big day I want you to take a
37. 1:21look at who showed up in court today it
38. 1:23is attorney Barry Sheek famous attorney
39. 1:27in the United States He is the founder
40. 1:28of the Innocence project and that group
41. 1:31got involved in this case and got the
42. 1:33ball rolling really on that new DNA
43. 1:36testing Michael Morton is not in the
44. 1:38courtroom today but I want you to listen
45. 1:40to what he said right after his
46. 1:43conviction 25 years ago I did not do
47. 1:48this Morton adamant for the last 25
48. 1:51years he did not kill his wife Christine
49. 1:54he has never wavered from that statement
50. 1:57his attorneys have been calling for his
51. 1:59immediate release since August since
52. 2:02this new DNA testing came back we are
53. 2:04not sure if that is going to happen
54. 2:06today but we know the wheels could be
55. 2:09set in motion on that today also in the
56. 2:12courtroom this morning is uh Williamson
57. 2:14County District Attorney John Bradley he
58. 2:16has not been in court for any of these
59. 2:19status hearings so obviously that is
60. 2:21momentous in this case John Bradley
61. 2:23Barry Sheck uh lots of other attorneys
62. 2:25family members investigators Williamson
63. 2:28County DA's invest instigators in the
64. 2:30courtroom today we are expecting to
65. 2:32learn uh what's going to happen in court
66. 2:34hopefully in the next half hour back
