3. 0:03the metropolitan police handle four
4. 0:05murders carried out by serial killer
5. 0:06stephen port will be investigated again
6. 0:09the watchdog admitted its first
7. 0:10investigation was flawed and new
8. 0:12information has now come out
9. 0:14inquests have already concluded failings
10. 0:16by the force probably contributed to the
11. 0:19last three killings well simon vigar is
12. 0:21at new scotland yard for us right now as
13. 0:23simon do the families of the victims
14. 0:25actually feel like they're getting
15. 0:26somewhere now after this
16. 0:30hi dan they do because of what the
17. 0:31inquests found uh back in december the
18. 0:34criticisms of the met police
19. 0:36fundamentally they believe the whole
20. 0:38investigation would have been different
21. 0:39if the victims had been four
22. 0:41heterosexual women that the link between
23. 0:43the murders would have been made
24. 0:45the victims in this case were anthony
25. 0:47wallgate gabriel cavari daniel whitworth
26. 0:51and jack taylor the murders all go back
27. 0:53eight years to a 15-month period in 2014
28. 0:562015. the bodies were all found in the
29. 0:59same part of east london very near to
30. 1:01the flat of stephen port who is now
31. 1:03serving a whole life term for the
32. 1:05murders
33. 1:07one of these solicitors in this case say
34. 1:08the police have blood on their hands
35. 1:11because he could have and should have
36. 1:13been stopped much earlier now a former
37. 1:15neighbor of porter told five news today
38. 1:17that the attitude of the police was all
39. 1:19wrong
40. 1:20the the original
41. 1:22investigation i think that really
42. 1:24highlights that
43. 1:26the police are unaccountable and
44. 1:29if they
45. 1:30are honest and true about
46. 1:33seeking out the bad apples as they
47. 1:34describe them then there's got to be a
48. 1:37way that these officers are
49. 1:39held account and are forced effectively
50. 1:42to recount what happened
51. 1:44and simon i suppose the obvious question
52. 1:46listening to all that is why haven't any
53. 1:48officers been disciplined
54. 1:51well the watchdog is the iopc the
55. 1:54independent office of police conduct and
56. 1:56in 2019 its own inquiry
57. 1:58said that no officer had a case to
58. 2:01answer in terms of misconduct or gross
59. 2:03misconduct the inquests have changed all
60. 2:06of that the families have kept up the
61. 2:07pressure the iopc is going to reopen the
62. 2:10inquiry with a new team and the met as
63. 2:12an institution has apologized and says
64. 2:14it will cooperate with that the families
65. 2:17are convinced there was homophobic
66. 2:19prejudice which meant the early deaths
67. 2:20weren't properly investigated and they
68. 2:23say that some officers have shown no
69. 2:24regret or no remorse well the new
70. 2:27investigation may change that simon
