  11. 0:17You can dance next to Maddie.
  12. 0:18We need to win.
  13. 0:20I will stop at nothing until that happens.
  14. 0:23If you don't want her on the team
  15. 0:24and you want to kick her off, just kick her off.
  16. 0:26Goodbye.
  17. 0:27You're out.
  18. 0:28You can't keep messing with somebody's head over and over.
  19. 0:30ABBY LEE: Coming up on "Dance Moms"--
  20. 0:32I have my second open call audition in Atlanta, Georgia.
  21. 0:37[cheering]
  22. 0:39So Nia will be our featured performer.
  23. 0:42The weight of this victory is on you.
  24. 0:46MELISSA: Guess what?
  25. 0:47I chose to have my kids go homeschooling so they have more
  26. 0:50privates. KELLY: Well, wait a minute.
  27. 0:51I don't agree with that. MELISSA: Oh, please.
  28. 0:52First of all, it's really none of your business.
  29. 0:54I really could care less.
  30. 0:56ABBY LEE: This is a controversial piece
  31. 0:58that people are going to like, people are going to hate.
  32. 1:00But it's going to make everybody think.
  33. 1:04[THEME - NIKKI LOWE, "LIVING ON THE DANCE FLOOR"]
  34. 1:06(SINGING) Get up.
  35. 1:07Get on the floor.
  36. 1:09My world is with my girls, living on the dance floor.
  37. 1:14Living on the dance floor.
  38. 1:21Living on the dance floor.
  39. 1:26[music playing]
  40. 1:28MEAGHAN: What are some important facts
  41. 1:29that you think you need to know to put in your projects?
  42. 1:32MACKENZIE: Mm--
  43. 1:33MELISSA: Maddie and Mackenzie are homeschooling this year.
  44. 1:35It's the best thing for us.
  45. 1:37They have more time to dance.
  46. 1:38I'm happy.
  47. 1:39My girls are happy.
  48. 1:39And Abby's most certainly happy.
  49. 1:42So they do all this in the morning
  50. 1:44and then have all their dance all evening.
  51. 1:46So they're dancing a lot more.
  52. 1:48They are.
  53. 1:50JILL: I'm trying to figure out if homeschooling would
  54. 1:52be right for Kendall.
  55. 1:53If I want her to become this amazing dancer,
  56. 1:56she needs more time in the studio.
  57. 1:58And the only way to get that is to take time away from school
  58. 2:02so she can be at dance.
  59. 2:04This might be my next step to get her from,
  60. 2:07you know, here to here.
  61. 2:08Mom?
  62. 2:09MELISSA: What, honey?
  63. 2:10How do you spell tyrannosaurus?
  64. 2:12Uh--
  65. 2:14[music playing]
  66. 2:21ABBY LEE: Let's go!
  67. 2:22Let's go, let's go. Come on.
  68. 2:23Get in here.
  69. 2:24Let's go, let's go!
  70. 2:28Let's go.
  71. 2:29Let's go.
  72. 2:30Well, congratulations, you beat the Wicked Witch
  73. 2:34of the West, the Crabapples.
  74. 2:36[cheering]
  75. 2:37ANNOUNCER: First place, Abby Lee Dance Company.
  76. 2:43And you were the highest scoring routine of the day.
  77. 2:49[cheering]
  78. 2:52We may have one last week against the Crabapples,
  79. 2:55but that doesn't mean that everything is just
  80. 2:57hunky dory around here.
  81. 2:58I'm still going to make a few changes.
  82. 3:01I am going this week-- and I'm very excited.
  83. 3:04I have my second open call audition.
  84. 3:08We're headed to Atlanta.
  85. 3:09And they turn out awesome performers.
  86. 3:12I think this audition is going to be even bigger and better
  87. 3:15than the first one.
  88. 3:16Girls, I don't know what your mother's told you
  89. 3:18about the last audition in Orlando,
  90. 3:21but I kept enough kids that I could have created
  91. 3:24a whole new team and replaced every single person,
  92. 3:29including you, Maddie.
  93. 3:32My eyes are open.
  94. 3:33I'm always watching.
  95. 3:35And I know there's some amazing studios in the Atlanta area.
  96. 3:39I'm still determined to have the best team possible.
  97. 3:42If I have to replace everybody, hey, so be it.
  98. 3:46HOLLY: Abby, I would be more than
  99. 3:48happy to offer my services.
  100. 3:50I was an admissions director and I recruited for 12 years.
  101. 3:54I think finally there could be a match where I could be of help
  102. 3:57and service to Abby as she goes on her open call auditions.
  103. 4:01And I can also find out what she's up to.
  104. 4:03OK, well, I'm going to take you up on that.
  105. 4:05There you go.
  106. 4:07Are my children coming with you again this time?
  107. 4:09ABBY LEE: Uh--
  108. 4:11Maddie, Mackenzie, do you want to go with me?
  109. 4:13Yes.
  110. 4:14ABBY LEE: OK.
  111. 4:15You're going to sell Abby Lee Dance Company apparel
  112. 4:18at the audition, okie doke?
  113. 4:22Oh god, Melissa, of course you're going to sell
  114. 4:23Abby's T-shirt.
  115. 4:25Are you going to wipe her butt in the bathroom too?
  116. 4:27All right, let's get to the pyramid.
  117. 4:31On the bottom of the pyramid is Kendall.
  118. 4:35You were the only person on our team that didn't get the first.
  119. 4:41You can do it in the group.
  120. 4:42You need to be able to do it on your own.
  121. 4:47Next, we have Brooke.
  122. 4:50Round off, back layout, step out,
  123. 4:52about this high off the ground.
  124. 4:58Next, we have Paige.
  125. 5:03Paige, you have to work on your posture.
  126. 5:06Get a book on your head.
  127. 5:08Don't be embarrassed in front of your friends.
  128. 5:09Do it because someday you want to be able to stand up
  129. 5:12straight and tall.
  130. 5:15And next, we have Mackenzie.
  131. 5:19You did the group dance.
  132. 5:20It was fine.
  133. 5:21I'm thrilled that you're picking up quickly.
  134. 5:23But is the belly in?
  135. 5:27How many times do I tell you that a day?
  136. 5:29A lot.
  137. 5:33Lace up the ribs and shh, close it, like a turkey.
  138. 5:40Nia, I thought you were good in the group.
  139. 5:43And I thought your facial expressions were good.
  140. 5:44I thought you were in the moment.
  141. 5:46[music playing]
  142. 5:47(SINGING) How can I learn how to trust you?
  143. 5:50ABBY LEE: I thought you really got into your character.
  144. 5:52HOLLY: Nia has finally moved up the pyramid.
  145. 5:53She's not on the bottom row any longer.
  146. 5:56She's on the second row.
  147. 5:57I'm thinking this is a good way to start off the week.
  148. 6:00And next, we have Maddie.
  149. 6:04You gave an outstanding performance
  150. 6:06in the group routine.
  151. 6:07You were helpful during the week in rehearsal, corrected
  152. 6:10everybody.
  153. 6:11You did the job.
  154. 6:14But ultimately, our big winner was Chloe.
  155. 6:18[applause] You won the whole thing.
  156. 6:22You won your solo division.
  157. 6:23[music playing]
  158. 6:24(SINGING) Why did you have to crush me?
  159. 6:27ABBY LEE: Chloe we was a competitor.
  160. 6:29She took that stage like she owned it.
  161. 6:32CHRISTI: It's been a long time since Chloe's
  162. 6:33been at the top of the pyramid.
  163. 6:35And I think it's going to do wonders for her confidence.
  164. 6:39ABBY LEE: All right, this week, we
  165. 6:41will be attending the Masters of Dance Arts Competition
  166. 6:45in Atlanta, Georgia.
  167. 6:47The first routine I want to talk about is a trio.
  168. 6:51We're talking about the good Old South, Southern Belles.
  169. 6:55Paige, you are part of the trio with Chloe and Kendall.
  170. 7:03MELISSA: Believe it or not, despite Kendall being last
  171. 7:06on the pyramid, she was given the opportunity
  172. 7:08to do a trio with Paige and Chloe.
  173. 7:12I'm looking forward to this.
  174. 7:14I have two solos.
  175. 7:16Maddie, you will be competing this weekend,
  176. 7:19but you will be doing a ballet routine.
  177. 7:23And Mackenzie, you will also be doing a solo.
  178. 7:26You will be entered in the Lip Sync category.
  179. 7:29And you must lip sync the song.
  180. 7:33It has to be big.
  181. 7:36You have to exaggerate every word,
  182. 7:38I'm giving Mackenzie a lip-syncing solo because I have
  183. 7:41big plans for her future.
  184. 7:43But first, I have to find out if she really is an entertainer.
  185. 7:48All right, everyone will do the group routine,
  186. 7:52except for you, Mackenzie.
  187. 7:53This will be a very mature piece.
  188. 7:56Now, since we're going to Atlanta,
  189. 7:58I wanted to do something historical, educational,
  190. 8:05believe it or not, and also Academy Award worthy.
  191. 8:12This will be a piece about the Civil Rights movement.
  192. 8:15So Nia, your mother has been on my back.
  193. 8:17When is it going to be Nia's turn?
  194. 8:18When is she going to get something special?
  195. 8:20Da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da.
  196. 8:22So Nia, I'm challenging you to give
  197. 8:26an Oscar worthy performance as our young heroine in the piece
  198. 8:34"At Last."
  199. 8:36The Civil Rights movement was a monumental event in US history.
  200. 8:40We've got to be on our A game.
  201. 8:42We have to dance flawlessly and give the proper respect
  202. 8:45to this monumental event in history.
  203. 8:48So Nia will be our featured performer.
  204. 8:52But with that, the weight of this victory is on you.
  205. 8:59HOLLY: As an African-American woman and as an educator,
  206. 9:02the Civil Rights movement has a special place in my experience
  207. 9:06and in my heart.
  208. 9:07And I hope that Abby treats this subject matter with dignity
  209. 9:11and a lot of respect.
  210. 9:12I hope that Abby does not sensationalize this at all.
  211. 9:16OK, that's it.
  212. 9:17I'm going to get the girls warmed up.
  213. 9:18Spread apart, guys.
  214. 9:20[music playing]
  215. 9:24This routine, it's going to be a controversial piece.
  216. 9:28It's going to be something that we leave the audience talking
  217. 9:31about.
  218. 9:33There will be no fooling around.
  219. 9:36Understand?
  220. 9:38All right, let's go.
  221. 9:40The group routine is about the Civil Rights movement.
  222. 9:42[MUSIC - SETH GLIER, "THE NEXT RIGHT THING"]
  223. 9:44And Nia is portraying a young Black girl
  224. 9:46standing up for her rights.
  225. 9:48And at the end of the piece, Nia is free, both mind and body,
  226. 9:52at last.
  227. 9:53Let me ask you a question.
  228. 9:54HOLLY: Uh-huh.
  229. 9:55Are you agreeing to go and work
  230. 9:59for Abby at the open audition and you're
  231. 10:02keeping quiet about a controversial special part--
  232. 10:05I know.
  233. 10:05That's a lot.
  234. 10:07--because you're nervous about your spot on the team?
  235. 10:08With this week's group dance being about the Civil Rights
  236. 10:11movement, I'm not really sure if Holly
  237. 10:13is comfortable with how Abby is going to portray Nia's role.
  238. 10:15But with open auditions coming up,
  239. 10:17I think that Holly might be a little quiet about it.
  240. 10:20HOLLY: I am very cautiously optimistic.
  241. 10:25It's a lot to digest.
  242. 10:25I wasn't expecting--
  243. 10:28I wasn't expecting that.
  244. 10:30What if it's not up to your standards or isn't tasteful?
  245. 10:33I'm hoping that Abby doesn't-- has Nia just typecast like
  246. 10:37a Laquifa, that that's all she could ever be.
  247. 10:40OK, have you met the woman?
  248. 10:42I know.
  249. 10:43[laughter]
  250. 10:44Because you're like, Abby knows not to cross a line.
  251. 10:46The woman was born over the line.
  252. 10:49I think some people may object to it,
  253. 10:51may think that typecasting the only Black child in the group
  254. 10:55is potential for disaster with this dance.
  255. 10:59Nia is really excited about this.
  256. 11:01It's been a year since Nia's had a featured role in a group
  257. 11:03dance.
  258. 11:04And I don't want to be the one to say she can't do it.
  259. 11:06[music playing]
  260. 11:09Let's see it.
  261. 11:09Ready with the music.
  262. 11:12This week, Maddie has another solo.
  263. 11:14She will be performing a ballet piece entitled "Ballerina."
  264. 11:18Now that Melissa is homeschooling her children,
  265. 11:22Maddie has the opportunity to show off all this technique
  266. 11:26that she's worked so hard to achieve.
  267. 11:30Having a ballet solo is definitely
  268. 11:32going to be a challenge.
  269. 11:33Mm-hmm.
  270. 11:34Hasn't Maddie been having a bunch of ballet privates?
  271. 11:36She has one a week.
  272. 11:37An hour and a half.
  273. 11:38Yeah. That's great.
  274. 11:39It's fabulous.
  275. 11:40No, no, but she knows this solo.
  276. 11:42MELISSA: No, she doesn't.
  277. 11:43Oh, my god, Melissa.
  278. 11:45She just came out and did like a minute and a half of a dance,
  279. 11:47of a two-minute dance.
  280. 11:48Oh, OK, she did a minute and a half.
  281. 11:50No, your daughter's just here from morning till night.
  282. 11:52No, they're not.
  283. 11:53They're only here at 1 o'clock for voice lessons.
  284. 11:56And then they have one private each.
  285. 11:58That's like a full time job.
  286. 12:01I chose my kids to be homeschooled this year.
  287. 12:04And if they have an advantage, they have an advantage.
  288. 12:08They get to dance more.
  289. 12:09So I'm sick of hearing about it.
  290. 12:11First of all, it's really none of your business.
  291. 12:13It's never any of our business when you don't
  292. 12:14like to be put on the hot seat. - I think that if--
  293. 12:16MELISSA: I'm not put on the hot seat, because guess what?
  294. 12:18I chose to have my kids go homeschooling so they have more
  295. 12:20privates. - But wait a minute.
  296. 12:21I don't agree with that.
  297. 12:22Well, that's your problem.
  298. 12:23I don't agree with that.
  299. 12:24I really can care less.
  300. 12:30[music playing]
  301. 12:32ABBY LEE: All right, ladies, you are Southern Belles,
  302. 12:33the complete opposite of your mothers--
  303. 12:36no trash, no foul language, no arguing with your teachers,
  304. 12:42no talking about people behind their backs,
  305. 12:46no blatant public display of intoxication.
  306. 12:52You are (SWEET VOICE) Southern Belles.
  307. 12:54[music playing]
  308. 13:00This week, Chloe, Paige, and Kendall are doing a trio.
  309. 13:04It's entitled "Southern Belles."
  310. 13:06I'm expecting these three belles to be Southern hospitality
  311. 13:10for the judges, something their mothers could learn
  312. 13:13a little about.
  313. 13:15And with the open auditions coming up in Atlanta,
  314. 13:18all the moms and the girls need to be on their best behavior.
  315. 13:23HOLLY: I think Abby's getting into this trio.
  316. 13:24She's up off of her chair.
  317. 13:26She thinks she can be a Southern Belle.
  318. 13:28Oh, lord.
  319. 13:29HOLLY: She has her hand on her hip.
  320. 13:30Her etiquette is terrible. CHRISTI: Could you imagine?
  321. 13:32I don't care what anybody says.
  322. 13:33Have you ever sat and eat dinner with the woman?
  323. 13:34Oh, when she sneezed her boogies all over her face?
  324. 13:37No, not on her face, up in her eyes.
  325. 13:39And didn't even say excuse me.
  326. 13:40And her hair.
  327. 13:41She sneezed her boogies in her eyes and her hair.
  328. 13:45They went down and up.
  329. 13:47MELISSA: And didn't get up to go to the bathroom
  330. 13:48to wash her hands.
  331. 13:51Do you want to share my bread with me?
  332. 13:52[laughter]
  333. 13:54CHRISTI: Oh, my god.
  334. 13:55But that doesn't sound like Southern etiquette,
  335. 13:57or Northern etiquette.
  336. 13:59Anyone else think it's kind of ironic
  337. 14:01that Abby is trying to portray herself as a dignified lady?
  338. 14:04Seriously?
  339. 14:05She's about the furthest you can get from a Southern Belle.
  340. 14:07[music playing]
  341. 14:12[MUSIC - SHARI SHORT, "LOVE OVERDOSE"]
  342. 14:13(SINGING) La-la-la-la.
  343. 14:17La-la-la-la.
  344. 14:18Put your hands together.
  345. 14:19It's such a thrill.
  346. 14:22Girl, you should--
  347. 14:23ABBY LEE: Mackenzie is performing a routine involving
  348. 14:26lip-syncing called "Love Overdose."
  349. 14:29Oh, my god.
  350. 14:31It is such a cute song.
  351. 14:34Boy, she's really going at it with the lip-syncing.
  352. 14:40ABBY LEE: I think mackenzie is a natural born entertainer.
  353. 14:43And I have big things planned for Mackenzie.
  354. 14:47But she needs to understand just how difficult it
  355. 14:49is to go out there and sing and dance at the same time.
  356. 14:56(SINGING) Love overdose.
  357. 14:57ABBY LEE: [squeals] [laughs]
  358. 15:00[laughs]
  359. 15:03I love it.
  360. 15:05Good girl!
  361. 15:08So good.
  362. 15:09Did you learn all those words?
  363. 15:10Yes.
  364. 15:11Abby has such a soft spot for Mackenzie.
  365. 15:14It is unbelievable.
  366. 15:16Very good.
  367. 15:17It's good.
  368. 15:18OK, go grab a drink.
  369. 15:19Good job.
  370. 15:21[music playing]
  371. 15:25They're still wiggling.
  372. 15:26Now reach over your fingers.
  373. 15:36Don't let that hand get too high.
  374. 15:38OK.
  375. 15:41Bring that hand all the way back, and soft elbow
  376. 15:45at the bar.
  377. 15:48What do you think?
  378. 15:49I'm so happy that she is working on her ballet
  379. 15:53and having these privates and she's homeschooling
  380. 15:55so that the mother can get her here and she could do all this.
  381. 15:58She commends Maddie for being homeschooled,
  382. 16:01but she can't hold it against our kids
  383. 16:02for not being homeschooled.
  384. 16:04Abby always says that the girls would be better dancers if they
  385. 16:08were homeschooled like Maddie.
  386. 16:10And I agree.
  387. 16:11But in my family, school comes first.
  388. 16:14I just want my kids to grow up normal,
  389. 16:16not just having dance be their entire life.
  390. 16:19JILL: So how many days a week does Maddie get ballet, just
  391. 16:21one?
  392. 16:22KELLY: Well, how about the rest of us?
  393. 16:23I mean, it's only 45 minutes.
  394. 16:24You have to take your kid out of school.
  395. 16:25You can be here.
  396. 16:27We can't.
  397. 16:28MELISSA: Exactly.
  398. 16:29But don't get mad at me because I come here.
  399. 16:30But Abby can't get mad at our kids for going to school.
  400. 16:33She can't.
  401. 16:33She shouldn't.
  402. 16:35The moms are on my back all the time about homeschooling
  403. 16:37and how much time my kids spend at the studio.
  404. 16:40They need to get over it.
  405. 16:41And if they want their kids to be here at the studio more
  406. 16:43often, homeschool your kids as well.
  407. 16:45I will say I think it's gotten a little bit better since we've
  408. 16:48started the privates, definitely with the knees.
  409. 16:49ABBY LEE: Oh, yeah, I've definitely seen improvement.
  410. 16:50I just-- I think she's so smart and she wants it so bad.
  411. 16:55And Christi, who always has her nose in everybody's business,
  412. 16:59her daughter, Chloe, used to be Maddie's rival.
  413. 17:03And Chloe used to be the big ballerina.
  414. 17:05Well now, she could care less about any of it.
  415. 17:11Some of the girls are just not dedicated enough.
  416. 17:14Maddie is homeschooled, and it is opening numerous doors
  417. 17:17for her.
  418. 17:18And that was my goal to begin with.
  419. 17:21Hello.
  420. 17:23Hi.
  421. 17:25I wanted to ask you what you all
  422. 17:26thought of the ballet class?
  423. 17:29I think the girls should have more ballet every week.
  424. 17:32The schedule's right. HOLLY: I know.
  425. 17:34I know.
  426. 17:35I think we would all like to have a ballet with Lindy.
  427. 17:38Christi, a couple of years ago, that ballet routine
  428. 17:41would have went to Chloe.
  429. 17:42OK.
  430. 17:43Kids on this team that should be homeschooled,
  431. 17:46that should be dancing, I thought that she wanted
  432. 17:49to make this her career.
  433. 17:50Where's that little kid, I want to be a Rockette, dance?
  434. 17:53Why aren't you giving it a try?
  435. 17:58[MUSIC - SETH GLIER, "THE NEXT RIGHT THING"]
  436. 17:59(SINGING) Oh, you're a long way from home.
  437. 18:04Hear me sing, oh, people need a miracle to do the next right
  438. 18:11thing.
  439. 18:12HOLLY: This week's group dance is inspired by the Civil Rights
  440. 18:14movement.
  441. 18:15I love the fact that Nia has a featured role in this week's
  442. 18:17group dance.
  443. 18:18But at the same time, I want to be sure
  444. 18:20that Abby is going to handle this controversial role
  445. 18:23with respect and sensitivity.
  446. 18:25(SINGING) --since 2:00 AM, sayin' I don't want to go.
  447. 18:29I don't want to die.
  448. 18:31ABBY LEE: This routine rests entirely on Nia's shoulders.
  449. 18:34She'll either make the routine or break the routine.
  450. 18:37And if she breaks it, well, good thing I'm
  451. 18:39having auditions in Atlanta.
  452. 18:41There's hundreds of kids that are ready to take her place.
  453. 18:45I think the visual of Nia the music and the word,
  454. 18:51it's a very powerful piece.
  455. 18:53I hope I don't live to regret this.
  456. 19:00[music playing]
  457. 19:05We're the first ones here.
  458. 19:07I wanted to talk to Chloe about homeschooling because I want
  459. 19:09to ask her.
  460. 19:10If this is something that she seriously wants to consider,
  461. 19:12I need to know that.
  462. 19:13So last night, Abby come upstairs
  463. 19:18and was giving me a really hard time about you and dance.
  464. 19:23Because even though you won this week,
  465. 19:25she still said that it's not enough
  466. 19:28and it's not good enough.
  467. 19:30And she said to me that if you really wanted it, that you
  468. 19:34should be homeschooled.
  469. 19:35I mean, I love dancing.
  470. 19:37And you know, I couldn't imagine my life without dancing.
  471. 19:41But I couldn't imagine my life without school either.
  472. 19:44CHRISTI: Yeah, you're supposed to go to school.
  473. 19:46You're a kid.
  474. 19:47Yeah.
  475. 19:48That's my normal part of the day.
  476. 19:49I really like going to school because it keeps me normal.
  477. 19:52And I like being able to see my friends.
  478. 19:54I want to be able to have a life where I can be
  479. 19:56able to go to school and dance.
  480. 19:59Abby's whole thing is, Maddie and Mackenzie are proving
  481. 20:01that they want to be dancers because they're
  482. 20:02being homeschooled.
  483. 20:04But I don't understand what one has to do with the other.
  484. 20:06You know what?
  485. 20:07Ignore her.
  486. 20:08Like just ignore her, Chloe.
  487. 20:10You know, ignore her.
  488. 20:12You have a bright future.
  489. 20:13And if it's dance, it will be because you
  490. 20:17decide that you want to do it.
  491. 20:18But if it's not, you at least have something to fall back on.
  492. 20:22Chloe's whole world isn't always about dance.
  493. 20:24She's a different person than Maddie.
  494. 20:26And going to school is important to her
  495. 20:28because it helps her to be a well-rounded person.
  496. 20:30You know what?
  497. 20:31You don't need her to be proud of you because I'm proud of you
  498. 20:33and your dad is proud of you.
  499. 20:35And you should be proud of yourself.
  500. 20:37OK?
  501. 20:38Yeah.
  502. 20:44[music playing]
  503. 20:53[cheering]
  504. 20:59Hey!
  505. 21:00Thank you, everybody.
  506. 21:02Thanks for coming out today.
  507. 21:03This is an audition.
  508. 21:05The Abby Lee Dance Company is looking for replacements.
  509. 21:10The time has come.
  510. 21:13Lazy slugs need to go.
  511. 21:15[cheering]
  512. 21:16Spread apart.
  513. 21:17Hurry up, hurry up.
  514. 21:19Let's go, let's go, let's go!
  515. 21:20We're in Atlanta for my second round of auditions.
  516. 21:23Melissa and Holly are here to help me.
  517. 21:25Now, we have a great turnout.
  518. 21:27There's tons of kids here.
  519. 21:29And I'm looking for the best possible replacements.
  520. 21:32I'm looking for kids with high kicks,
  521. 21:34overstretched splits, great flexibility.
  522. 21:37And they've got to have the look.
  523. 21:40Stop.
  524. 21:42The girl with the bad haircut, get out here.
  525. 21:44[music playing]
  526. 21:45Whose parent is this?
  527. 21:49You are limiting her marketability.
  528. 21:53You are limiting the jobs she can get with the look.
  529. 21:56Yes?
  530. 21:57MELISSA: Our kids are All-American girls.
  531. 22:00They don't color their hair.
  532. 22:01They don't crimp their hair.
  533. 22:03And you know, they follow the rules.
  534. 22:05I don't know if she would do that.
  535. 22:07[music playing]
  536. 22:081, 2, 3, 4.
  537. 22:12Red shorts in the back, right split,
  538. 22:15left split, straddle split, mandatory?
  539. 22:17Answer.
  540. 22:18Yes?
  541. 22:20Go.
  542. 22:2216, that's not a front split.
  543. 22:25Goodbye.
  544. 22:26900, go.
  545. 22:30406, goodbye, honey.
  546. 22:33Thank you for coming.
  547. 22:34Don't call me.
  548. 22:35I'll call you.
  549. 22:36The games have just begun.
  550. 22:43And face front.
  551. 22:4523, great outfit.
  552. 22:46You're going home.
  553. 22:4726, too advanced for you.
  554. 22:50425, went the wrong direction.
  555. 22:53202, 405, 201, you were a hot mess.
  556. 22:59Thank you all, ladies.
  557. 23:00You can go.
  558. 23:00What's this little one's name here?
  559. 23:01003, I loved you.
  560. 23:03You were great until you screwed up that whole jeté and changed
  561. 23:06directions.
  562. 23:07Get down here.
  563. 23:08There are so many kids to go through.
  564. 23:11Some of these kids are just incredible talents.
  565. 23:16But they might not be right for my team.
  566. 23:18There's going to be a lot of broken hearts here today.
  567. 23:21Wait, wait, where are you going?
  568. 23:25How old are you?
  569. 23:2711?
  570. 23:29I have Maddie who's 11?
  571. 23:37WOMAN: Give her a second chance!
  572. 23:38[cheering] Give her a second chance!
  573. 23:45In the back.
  574. 23:46[cheering]
  575. 23:55I am appalled at the behavior from the people attending
  576. 23:57this audition.
  577. 23:58I mean, if you can't even keep your mouth shut
  578. 24:01while your kid's are auditioning,
  579. 24:02why would I ever bring you back to Pittsburgh with me?
  580. 24:06This is destroying me!
  581. 24:10I don't know who your dance teacher is.
  582. 24:12Have you been wearing purple all day?
  583. 24:14Yes.
  584. 24:15Why would you change your clothes?
  585. 24:19You are the girl in the purple to my assistant.
  586. 24:22To me, you're the girl in the purple, the amazing girl
  587. 24:25in the purple.
  588. 24:26Goodbye.
  589. 24:29Dumb-- don't ever do that again.
  590. 24:32She's way too talented.
  591. 24:33Stay.
  592. 24:34WOMAN 1: Give her the shirt.
  593. 24:35That is not her fault. She needs to be on this stage.
  594. 24:40She can dance on this stage in her underwear.
  595. 24:44WOMAN 2: Her teacher said, let them see your body more.
  596. 24:47Exactly.
  597. 24:48So I took her shirt off, because I wanted
  598. 24:50you to see her physique more.
  599. 24:51That wasn't her fault.
  600. 24:55I thought this was a dance audition.
  601. 24:57This is not what I expected, this kind of pandemonium, this
  602. 25:01calling out.
  603. 25:02This is like the Jerry Springer of dance.
  604. 25:04Look, this is not appropriate for dance.
  605. 25:08If you put her beside Maddie and those other girls,
  606. 25:10she's built just like her.
  607. 25:11She looks good.
  608. 25:12WOMAN 3: You didn't know she had abs.
  609. 25:13Put her beside Nia. They're built exactly the same.
  610. 25:15Jalina, I want to take you home with me just
  611. 25:16to get you away from these people.
  612. 25:17WOMAN 2: She looks exactly the same.
  613. 25:18Yes, please, take her. Take her.
  614. 25:19She wants to be with you.
  615. 25:21She wants to.
  616. 25:21We brought her here.
  617. 25:23HOLLY: This is the first audition I've ever been to,
  618. 25:25and I'm shocked.
  619. 25:26I cannot believe Abby is tolerating this behavior from
  620. 25:29these moms.
  621. 25:31She definitely needs to take control of this situation.
  622. 25:32WOMAN 2: It's not her fault.
  623. 25:34WOMAN 3: It's not her mistake.
  624. 25:35Sweetheart, I feel very sorry for you right now.
  625. 25:38But it's a learning lesson.
  626. 25:40When you go to an audition, whatever you have on,
  627. 25:43they love it, they keep you, you stay in that same exact look.
  628. 25:47Jalina, go calm down.
  629. 25:49And when the 12-year-olds dance again, you join them.
  630. 25:51[applause]
  631. 25:52WOMAN 4: Good luck, Jalina!
  632. 25:55ABBY LEE: All right, listen up.
  633. 25:58I have given second chance after second chance
  634. 26:01after second chance.
  635. 26:02This is it.
  636. 26:03We're moving on.
  637. 26:05You get cut, take it like a professional,
  638. 26:09walk out, and learn from it.
  639. 26:11I don't want this chaos.
  640. 26:13There aren't any more second chances here.
  641. 26:15If you're cut, you're cut.
  642. 26:17If you're asked to go, go.
  643. 26:22409, it's time to go .
  644. 26:2517, goodbye.
  645. 26:28I've managed to whittle out the weak.
  646. 26:30Now I have the best of the best in Atlanta.
  647. 26:33Once I finish my open call auditions in three cities,
  648. 26:37then I'll make my final decision.
  649. 26:39Two down, one to go.
  650. 26:40Congratulations, you did it.
  651. 26:43Now we'll see who's coming to Pittsburgh.
  652. 26:49[music playing]
  653. 26:51[cheering]
  654. 26:56Today we're in Atlanta, Georgia, for the Masters of Dance Arts
  655. 26:59competition.
  656. 27:00And from what I saw at the open call audition,
  657. 27:02there's going to be a lot of really good dancers here.
  658. 27:07All right, girls, come on in.
  659. 27:19HOLLY: There's a lot riding on Nia's featured part
  660. 27:22this week in the group dance.
  661. 27:23She's nervous.
  662. 27:25I'm nervous for Nia.
  663. 27:26Nia has to be exceptional in this group dance.
  664. 27:31ABBY LEE: 1, 2, 3.
  665. 27:33HOLLY: Oh! Oh!
  666. 27:35All right, there you go.
  667. 27:36GIA: That is adorable.
  668. 27:38Let's see them.
  669. 27:38Oh.
  670. 27:39Oh.
  671. 27:42Yeah, they fit.
  672. 27:43CHRISTI: Mackenzie's costume is adorable.
  673. 27:45And our three girls look like a couple of chickens instead
  674. 27:48of Southern Belles.
  675. 27:53You guys are doing a trio.
  676. 27:55We have two soloists.
  677. 27:56If you go out there, fall on your face,
  678. 27:59it can not affect the group number.
  679. 28:03The group number is, hands down, the most important
  680. 28:07routine today.
  681. 28:08The solos and the trio have to go out there and be amazing,
  682. 28:13because I want the judges hungry to see the ALDC take
  683. 28:17the stage again.
  684. 28:18Apply those corrections, everything you've been told,
  685. 28:21and let's get out there and do this.
  686. 28:22Come on, come on, come on.
  687. 28:24[music playing]
  688. 28:32MELISSA: This is a really hard solo for Mackenzie.
  689. 28:35She has to lip-sync and perform at the same time.
  690. 28:37She has to prove to Abby that she can do it all.
  691. 28:41All right, up next, this is Mackenzie with "Love Overdose."
  692. 28:44[applause]
  693. 28:45Woo!
  694. 28:47GIA: Yeah, Kenz!
  695. 28:48[MUSIC - SHARI SHORT, "LOVE OVERDOSE"]
  696. 28:50(SINGING) La-la-la-la.
  697. 28:55La-la-la-la.
  698. 28:56Put your hands together.
  699. 28:58It's such a thrill.
  700. 28:59Girl, you should get a medal, you in those high heels.
  701. 29:03No one can do it better.
  702. 29:06You've got them skills that no one has, has, has.
  703. 29:11La-la-la-la.
  704. 29:15La-la-la-la.
  705. 29:19La-la-la-la.
  706. 29:21[applause]
  707. 29:22MELISSA: Woo!
  708. 29:24(SINGING) Someone call a doctor 'cause he's comatose.
  709. 29:27Too much of my love, it was an overdose.
  710. 29:31Something tells me that she's done this before.
  711. 29:35She's addicted, wicked, sickened.
  712. 29:38Love overdose.
  713. 29:40[cheering]
  714. 29:41MELISSA: Woo!
  715. 29:44MacKenzie really entertained the audience.
  716. 29:46And I think this proved to Abby that she is a star.
  717. 29:49[music playing]
  718. 29:50ANNOUNCER: All right, up next, this
  719. 29:52is Maddie with "Ballerina."
  720. 29:55MELISSA: Ballet is not Maddie's strong point.
  721. 29:57She's been putting a lot of time and energy in this solo,
  722. 30:00so I surely hope she can pull it off.
  723. 30:02[cheering]
  724. 30:05[music playing]
  725. 31:04[applause]
  726. 31:06Woo!
  727. 31:07[cheering]
  728. 31:10Maddie's ballet solo was beautiful.
  729. 31:13I think it proves to Abby that she's an all-around dancer.
  730. 31:16And that's what Abby wants.
  731. 31:20This trio, these three girls need to go out there and prove
  732. 31:24to Abby that this is her team, every single one of them
  733. 31:28is worth keeping.
  734. 31:29ANNOUNCER: Up next in the Junior Duet/Trio division,
  735. 31:31this is entry number 27, Paige, Chloe, and Kendall
  736. 31:35with "Southern Belles."
  737. 31:36[cheering]
  738. 31:39[music playing]
  739. 32:34[cheering]
  740. 32:38ABBY LEE: The girls did great, but we don't have time
  741. 32:40to pat ourselves on the back.
  742. 32:42It's time to get ready for the group routine.
  743. 32:46Make it messy and tack them down,
  744. 32:49just so they're not flopping.
  745. 32:50HOLLY: I'm very nervous.
  746. 32:52I'm not trying let Nia see my nervousness.
  747. 32:54Other moms are nervous.
  748. 32:56It is so tense and strained in our dressing room.
  749. 33:00Everyone could feel the tension.
  750. 33:03No one's relaxed.
  751. 33:05And I'm hoping that negative energy is not feeding off
  752. 33:08into the kids.
  753. 33:09GIA: Scrunch it.
  754. 33:10ABBY LEE: This is a controversial piece.
  755. 33:12This is the type of routine that people are going to like,
  756. 33:15people are going to hate, but it's going to make everybody
  757. 33:17think, whether they love it or they don't.
  758. 33:20If you are so together and so amazing,
  759. 33:23they can't say anything negative.
  760. 33:25If Nia doesn't nail her featured role in the group routine,
  761. 33:29I have a dozen kids ready to replace her
  762. 33:31at the drop of a hat.
  763. 33:32Nia, you have to deliver.
  764. 33:34You have to go out there and dance like your life depends
  765. 33:37on it.
  766. 33:38Because it does.
  767. 33:39Don't go out there and do it half you-know-what.
  768. 33:44HOLLY: I can see that Nia's nervous.
  769. 33:46I want Nia at this point to block out everything
  770. 33:49except her dance, and when she goes out on stage, that she
  771. 33:52leaves everyone blown away.
  772. 33:53You are portraying a character, a person, a woman of strength,
  773. 33:58with dignity, passion, a desire to be free.
  774. 34:01You are fighting not only for your freedom,
  775. 34:03you're fighting for your spot on this team.
  776. 34:06You show Abby that you have everything and more that it
  777. 34:08takes to be a member of this team through the dance
  778. 34:10that you do today.
  779. 34:12You can do it.
  780. 34:15All right, let's do this.

  793. 35:28for the jubilee.
  794. 35:30Two old ladies, they were waiting on a sign,

  803. 36:05I don't want to go.
  804. 36:07I don't want to die.
  805. 36:09But a sister's got to save her seat in the sky.
  806. 36:12You can judge me, grade me, shed some light.
  807. 36:16Do the next right thing, or the next thing right.
  808. 36:19[applause]
  809. 36:20Oh-ho, you're a long way from home.
