Melanie Philips Reveals How To FINISH OFF Islamism Forever! — Transcript

- 0:00I do get very, very annoyed when I hear
- 0:02Jews mounting the argument, "Why are you
- 0:05picking on us? Why are you picking on
- 0:07me? I haven't done anything. I'm just a
- 0:10British Jew. I'm not responsible for
- 0:11what Israel does." And that leaves
- 0:13absolutely [music] hanging in the air
- 0:16the unspoken agreement that Israel is
- 0:19doing something terrible. He repeated
- 0:21the canard [music] that the Israelis are
- 0:23committing genocide. Now, that is false.
- 0:26It [music] is inciting hatred because if
- 0:28people are committing genocide, you have
- 0:30to destroy them. If Israel is evil and
- 0:34if the vast majority of Jews support
- 0:36Israel, then the vast majority of Jews
- 0:39are evil. I think it's wrong to think of
- 0:41these marches as primarily being
- 0:43organized in order to protest about the
- 0:46war in Gaza. The driving force is
- 0:48>> [music]
- 0:48>> Islamism. If Britain wanted to put down
- 0:51a red line against the Islamization of
- 0:54Britain, it would be saying,
- 0:57"These marches, we know what these
- 0:58marches are. We're not going to have
- 0:59that. And we are going to show the
- 1:01Islamists that we understand the game
- 1:04they're playing and we are not going to
- 1:07allow it." And [music] that itself would
- 1:10send a very, very important signal to
- 1:12those Islamists. Okay, everyone. I have
- 1:14to say, I have a list of a few guests
- 1:16that we have on JTV that I always look
- 1:19forward to so much because they just
- 1:22have such
- 1:23insightful wisdom to share with all of
- 1:26us. And Melanie Phillips, you truly are
- 1:28one of those guests. Thank you so much
- 1:30for making the time to be here on JTV. I
- 1:32really appreciate it.
- 1:34Always a pleasure to see you, Ollie.
- 1:35Hope you're doing okay.
- 1:38Doing good. Doing good. And I'm thrilled
- 1:40to have before me your new book and to
- 1:43encourage everyone to get a copy of
- 1:44this, Fighting the Hate: A Handbook for
- 1:47Jews Under Siege. Melanie's written a
- 1:49number of books, actually. Last time we
- 1:50spoke, it was to discuss this one, The
- 1:52Builder's Stone, another
- 1:54barnstormer, How Jews and Christians
- 1:56Built the West and why only they can
- 1:58save it. Um and uh Melanie, there's so
- 2:01much to talk about uh that you you know,
- 2:03you cover in this book. Um but it's not
- 2:05just uh you know, theoretical stuff.
- 2:07It's
- 2:09it's happening day-to-day and literally
- 2:11uh some of the stuff that you talk about
- 2:13in this book, you were debating on Sky
- 2:16News uh just a few days ago. And I
- 2:18wanted to
- 2:19go go go right into this very first
- 2:22topic of um
- 2:23the genocide accusation um that Israel
- 2:27faces because well, first of all, let's
- 2:29just let's just see what you had to say
- 2:31because you were reacting to Zach
- 2:33Polanski uh from the Green Party um and
- 2:36claiming that this really is just a
- 2:38modern-day iteration of the ancient
- 2:41blood libel. I think he is a menace to
- 2:43public safety and his remarks to you
- 2:45were absolutely despicable. Um I counted
- 2:48at least six references to the fact that
- 2:50he was Jewish. He is using his Jewish
- 2:53ancestry as a shield to protect him from
- 2:56what he's doing. He himself is inciting
- 2:59hatred. Again, in his interview with
- 3:01you, he repeated the canard that the
- 3:04Israelis are committing genocide. Now,
- 3:06that is false. It is inciting hatred
- 3:09because if people are committing
- 3:10genocide, you have to destroy them. He
- 3:13also has not
- 3:14>> Is it fair to say people are allowed to
- 3:16come on television and express that view
- 3:18if they believe it? Uh well, uh that's
- 3:21for people who run television to decide
- 3:23those uh parameters.
- 3:24>> Well, certainly in this studio, people
- 3:26are allowed to say things that are
- 3:27lawful.
- 3:28Well, whatever you think of that man.
- 3:29Fine.
- 3:30So, Melanie, this is the first things I
- 3:32wanted to talk about. The the genocide
- 3:34accusation and whether you believe this
- 3:36should be considered hate speech.
- 3:40Um yes, if it is incitement. I mean, um
- 3:45people are entitled uh
- 3:47and have a right to say what they like.
- 3:49Um but if you are accusing a people uh
- 3:54of genocide, then you're accusing them
- 3:57of one of the worst, most heinous crimes
- 4:00that
- 4:01uh a collective can commit.
- 4:04Um, and it
- 4:07means that you're looking at them It
- 4:09means that you're presenting them as not
- 4:11just wrong, but absolutely monstrous.
- 4:14That they are evil. That they are
- 4:16demonic. Um, and consequently uh you are
- 4:20inciting people to want to get rid of
- 4:23them. Certainly to hate them.
- 4:25Um, and to think that they have no right
- 4:28to be uh treated as anything other than
- 4:30pariahs. And really they should be
- 4:33hounded out of
- 4:34uh civil society and basically removed
- 4:38from the face of the earth. Uh cuz
- 4:39that's what you do with people who are
- 4:41committing genocide. You destroy them.
- 4:42You go to battle against them. You go to
- 4:44war against them. And you kill them.
- 4:46Um, so
- 4:48that accusation, I think coming in the
- 4:52framework, I think this is very
- 4:53important also to say,
- 4:55this accusation of genocide didn't come
- 4:57out of nowhere.
- 4:58It came against the framework of
- 5:01systematic media lies about what Israel
- 5:04was doing in Gaza, which represented its
- 5:07war of defense as a war of aggression,
- 5:09and crucially, which kept saying over
- 5:13and over again
- 5:14uh that the Israelis were wantonly
- 5:17killing civilians and were killing
- 5:19babies.
- 5:20Now, that inspires absolute rage in any
- 5:24decent person, obviously. But it was a
- 5:27lie. These things are complete lies. And
- 5:30consequently they need to be called out
- 5:32as lies. They need to be opposed as
- 5:33lies. They need to be, you know, that
- 5:35conversation needs to be shut down by
- 5:38being
- 5:39shown to be not just false, but
- 5:43murderous in intent. And that hasn't
- 5:45been done. By the way, guys, just wanted
- 5:47to say, if you haven't already, please
- 5:49hit the subscribe button, like our
- 5:50video, comment, hyper videos. All these
- 5:53things really help us to grow, to get
- 5:54into the algorithm, and to continue to
- 5:56delivering videos, which I hope you all
- 5:58really appreciate.
- 6:00And when people will say, "Well, you
- 6:02know, Melanie, I I'm entitled to create
- 6:04my own characterization of the way
- 6:07Israel's government behaves, and I I can
- 6:10separate that very clearly from my
- 6:12condemnation of anti-Semitism." Do you
- 6:14feel as I do that there is no
- 6:18distinction, meaningful distinction,
- 6:20between the anti-Semitic violence that
- 6:23we saw on the streets of London just
- 6:24last week, and calling Israel genocidal
- 6:28for the very simple fact that aside from
- 6:31it being the one and only Jewish state
- 6:32that you're claiming is targeting
- 6:34children and babies and genocidal,
- 6:37the vast majority of Jews support
- 6:40Zionism. So, you by saying that, you are
- 6:43stating that most Jews are evil. So, you
- 6:46you can't disconnect the two.
- 6:48Well, that's absolutely right. Um if
- 6:50Israel is evil, and if the vast majority
- 6:54of Jews support Israel, then the vast
- 6:56majority of Jews are evil. Um and
- 6:59therefore, you have to do to the vast
- 7:00majority of Jews what you would want to
- 7:02do to Israel, which is destroy them. Um
- 7:04now, that doesn't mean that, you know,
- 7:06everyone's going to go out in the street
- 7:07and murder them, but it does mean that
- 7:09when uh
- 7:11uh they hear that, um they
- 7:14believe that the Israelis have no right
- 7:17to exist uh in an abstract kind of way.
- 7:20And when people take it out on Jews
- 7:23um
- 7:24uh in Britain or anywhere else, then the
- 7:27vast majority of people will shrug and
- 7:29say, "Well, they had it coming to them."
- 7:31Because, of course, alone among peoples,
- 7:33the Jews are held collectively
- 7:35responsible for what Israel does. And
- 7:37that's another aspect of this. Um but
- 7:40you certainly can't separate them. One
- 7:42follows from the other.
- 7:44I'm curious to know your view on a
- 7:46debate I was having with a friend of
- 7:48mine a few weeks ago. He's
- 7:51clearly Jewish, wears a kippah yarmulke,
- 7:54was walking around
- 7:55a shopping mall in London, and this
- 7:57non-Jewish guy yelled at him, "You
- 7:59better not be a Zionist."
- 8:01And he was going up the escalator, this
- 8:03guy was going down, so he didn't have
- 8:04chance to respond.
- 8:06But
- 8:07had he had the chance to respond, I said
- 8:09I said, "What would you have said?" He
- 8:11said, "I would have said to him,
- 8:12'Why are you making any assumption about
- 8:14my views? Why did you pick on me of all
- 8:17people? You tell me that you're against
- 8:19Zionism, but not against the Jews. So,
- 8:21why did you pick on me? You have no idea
- 8:23what my views are.' Now, his intention
- 8:25was to expose their supposed claim that
- 8:27they're separating Zionism and
- 8:28anti-Semitism. But I My view is, and I
- 8:32want to know your view, that that's not
- 8:33a a good tactic, cuz it's still playing
- 8:35into their hands. It's It's still
- 8:37telling them It's It's asserting that
- 8:40they are right, that there is a
- 8:41distinction. And I think much better to
- 8:44to just lean into the fact that the
- 8:47Jewish people fundamentally support
- 8:49Israel. And the more I feel like the
- 8:51more we try to create that separation,
- 8:53the more we're trying the more we're
- 8:55going along with this narrative that
- 8:56Israel is doing something terrible that
- 8:58requires Jews to kind of separate
- 9:00themselves from. The same way that, you
- 9:02know, we'll hear people saying, "No one
- 9:04holds all Russians accountable for the
- 9:06actions of Putin." But implicit in that
- 9:09is that Israel's actions are comparable
- 9:10to Putin. And I feel like we should, as
- 9:12Jews, you know, collectively
- 9:15show that we fully behind Israel's
- 9:17actions.
- 9:19Uh, yes. I mean, I do get very, very
- 9:22annoyed when I hear Jews
- 9:24mounting the argument.
- 9:26And in fact, there was a book that was
- 9:28written making this argument not that
- 9:30long ago.
- 9:31Much lionized,
- 9:33which says, "Why are you picking on us?
- 9:36Why are you picking on me? I haven't
- 9:38done anything. I'm just a British Jew.
- 9:40I'm not responsible for what Israel
- 9:42does. And that leaves absolutely hanging
- 9:45in the air the unspoken agreement that
- 9:48Israel is doing something terrible. Yes.
- 9:52>> it depends on the circumstances. What
- 9:54I'm saying in my book, there's no one
- 9:57template for how to respond to this kind
- 9:59of onslaught. It depends
- 10:02who's doing it, where,
- 10:04and in what kind of background, and what
- 10:06kind of context. Now, you talk about
- 10:08someone going up and down escalators.
- 10:11Um
- 10:13and there was no time there was no
- 10:14opportunity to to engage.
- 10:17If somebody
- 10:18shouts at you something like that in the
- 10:19street, what should you do? Now, some
- 10:23people will say, "Well, I would stand up
- 10:26and argue. I would stand up and make my
- 10:27point." And another person would say,
- 10:30"Well, I would thump him on the nose."
- 10:31Okay, so let's put to one side the
- 10:33person who would thump him on the nose.
- 10:35I do not approve of that. Would not
- 10:37Would not suggest that that's what
- 10:38should happen.
- 10:39Should that person, if it if if if that
- 10:42sort of thing is shouted at you in the
- 10:43street, should that person say, "Hang
- 10:46on, I'm going to tell you what's what's
- 10:48what's what?" Yeah.
- 10:49>> And
- 10:50I'm
- 10:52I would be very careful because I do
- 10:54think that while one must not ever run
- 10:58away from this, and the whole point of
- 11:00my book is to show people how they can
- 11:02stand up as proud Jews and fight back,
- 11:05you must look after your personal safety
- 11:07first and foremost. Um you really in
- 11:10these in in this kind of climate, you
- 11:12really can't take the risk that's that
- 11:15that somebody who's just shouting at you
- 11:17might then come at you with a knife.
- 11:19And you know, I would I mean, I just
- 11:21would not recommend that course of
- 11:22action to anybody.
- 11:24But if somebody says it to you in more
- 11:27kind of calm circumstances where, you
- 11:30you you judge that the physical risk is
- 11:32low.
- 11:34Um how to respond is to say, I would I'm
- 11:37not how I would respond. I am a proud
- 11:40Zionist, and let me tell you why.
- 11:42Yeah. Um because um people don't know
- 11:45what a Zionist is. They think it's like,
- 11:48you know, I don't know what they think.
- 11:49They think it's like Nazi.
- 11:51Um I mean, you have to call them out,
- 11:53and you have to say, I am standing on
- 11:56the moral high ground by saying I am a
- 11:59Zionist and defending Israel.
- 12:01Um and you must not in the my view as a
- 12:04Jew take refuge in this weaselly
- 12:07formulation, as you've just been saying,
- 12:09um well, you know, why are you being
- 12:11horrible to me? Uh I've got nothing to
- 12:14do with it. I mean, it is a point to
- 12:16make in general discussion that there is
- 12:19something that is singular and absolute
- 12:23double standard, that it's only the Jews
- 12:25who are held responsible for the crimes
- 12:26of Israel. So, this is in itself wrong.
- 12:30Um but if you're
- 12:32um
- 12:33being assailed personally with this,
- 12:36then I think uh it's um
- 12:39it's right and proper uh to uh stand up
- 12:43and say, I'm a proud Zionist. I'm a
- 12:46proud supporter of Israel. I believe
- 12:48Israel is the most moral country in the
- 12:50world um or what or whatever. And and
- 12:53then um
- 12:54you know, uh hopefully uh
- 12:57the person will come back in a calm way,
- 13:00and you can then explain. Um but again,
- 13:03in my book, um
- 13:05I'm also saying that there are many of
- 13:07these uh situations where people throw
- 13:11things at you
- 13:13um in conversation,
- 13:15and
- 13:16it really isn't appropriate or helpful
- 13:19uh to have a long discussion, because
- 13:23then you're not going to get anywhere.
- 13:24What What saying in the book is, you
- 13:26know, don't
- 13:28reduce your ex- lower your expectations.
- 13:30Don't assume. Don't Don't Don't imagine
- 13:33that you can persuade somebody who
- 13:35thinks Israel is a fountain of evil that
- 13:37after one conversation with you, they're
- 13:38going to say, "Oh, I get it now. Um
- 13:41Israel is the most moral country on the
- 13:43planet." They're They're not going to
- 13:44ever say that. What you uh can only hope
- 13:48to do, in my view, is to when faced with
- 13:51a closed mind like that, is to open that
- 13:55mind a crack. Just a crack. And I'm
- 13:59suggesting a number of ways in which you
- 14:01can possibly do that. Um and it requires
- 14:04some forethought. It means that
- 14:08when you as a diaspora Jew go out in the
- 14:10morning, unfortunately, now so many
- 14:12diaspora Jews are doing this, they're
- 14:13making a calculation in their minds. Do
- 14:16I wear my kippah on the tube? Uh do I
- 14:18wear my Magen David that is visible? Uh
- 14:21if I leave the house now, will it be
- 14:24safe to go across Central or will I come
- 14:26across a Palestine Now demonstration? Uh
- 14:31free Palestine demonstration. We're
- 14:33making those calculations all the time.
- 14:35And I'm suggesting in my book that
- 14:37people should
- 14:39mentally arm themselves uh before
- 14:43engaging with the world. Um doesn't mean
- 14:45they're going to come across these
- 14:47horrible situations at all. They may
- 14:49not. But if they do, they should have
- 14:52the reassurance of knowing that they
- 14:54have some facts in their mind and some
- 14:57lines to take. Even if it's just a joke,
- 14:59but they have thought it through
- 15:01beforehand and they know, you know, they
- 15:04They have a little bit of an armory that
- 15:06they can that they know they can deploy.
- 15:09Absolutely. Absolutely. And I I don't
- 15:10want to talk about some of your
- 15:11suggestions in the book in a moment. Um
- 15:14but just going back just for one more
- 15:15moment to this whole issue of, you know,
- 15:17someone yelling uh at someone that's
- 15:19Jewish and people creating this
- 15:21separation. Do you think it would be a
- 15:23good idea as alongside saying I'm a
- 15:25proud Zionist to also say, and you
- 15:28cannot separate Zionism from Judaism and
- 15:30that to be a Jew is to be a Zionist?
- 15:33Well,
- 15:34it again it depends on the
- 15:35circumstances. You know, if if if
- 15:37someone's hurling this at you in the
- 15:38street, I mean like
- 15:40really really isn't isn't the isn't the
- 15:42the occasion to do that.
- 15:44But I would certainly
- 15:46advocate saying
- 15:48to somebody
- 15:50that um
- 15:52uh
- 15:54you know,
- 15:55the the person says, you know, I'm a I'm
- 15:57you know, you're a horrible Zionist. And
- 16:00I would then suggest that you might say,
- 16:03well, I'm sure you don't mean to be a
- 16:05horrible I'm sure you don't mean to say
- 16:07that Jews are horrible. I mean I'm I'm
- 16:09sure you're making that distinction,
- 16:10aren't you? In other words, give them
- 16:12the opportunity to say, yes, absolutely.
- 16:15I'm making a proper distinction because
- 16:17Zionism is a political project and
- 16:19therefore it's fine, whereas, you know,
- 16:21being horrible to Jews is not fine. I
- 16:23would never do that cuz I'm a nice
- 16:24person. Let them say that.
- 16:27And then agree
- 16:29that, you know, you're you're glad that
- 16:31they're a nice person and you're
- 16:32absolutely absolutely right. In other
- 16:34words, lean into what they're saying.
- 16:36Lean into it.
- 16:38And then say, can I just explain to you
- 16:41why it's really really difficult to
- 16:43separate these these two things out? And
- 16:45what I would say, which they won't
- 16:47expect, always say something they don't
- 16:49expect.
- 16:50Um don't just say, you know,
- 16:52anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism because
- 16:54all aren't Jews.
- 16:55I mean that's just like silly and it's
- 16:57not going to get anywhere.
- 16:59Um I would say something more subtle
- 17:01that they really don't expect and I'm
- 17:03you know, I I road tested this and
- 17:04people are going
- 17:05what?
- 17:07Um and many Jews go what?
- 17:10Uh which is this, that um Zionism, you
- 17:14know, as we think of it today as a
- 17:16political project that started in the
- 17:1719th century. But so what is Zionism?
- 17:20What do you think Zionism is? But let me
- 17:22let me tell you what Zionism is. It's
- 17:24simply the right of the Jews to
- 17:28have their own country in their ancient
- 17:31ancestral homeland of Israel. Um now,
- 17:35the point is this that you may not
- 17:37realize is that that's not a political
- 17:39project. That's part of the Jewish
- 17:41religion. That the Jewish religion is
- 17:44centered in the land of Israel. Judaism
- 17:48consists of a bit like a three-legged
- 17:50stool. Judaism consists of the
- 17:53inseparable fusion of the people, the
- 17:56faith, and the land. Uh Jews religious
- 18:00Jews believe or the religion holds that
- 18:04the Jewish people received
- 18:07a divine instruction uh to live their
- 18:11lives according to a set of laws and
- 18:13precepts
- 18:14in order to produce a lives of great
- 18:16value and worth in the land of Israel.
- 18:20That the religion is centered in the
- 18:22land of Israel. If you look at Jewish
- 18:23liturgy, you will find that the word
- 18:25Zion, as in Zionism,
- 18:29uh appears over and over again. Now,
- 18:31that doesn't mean that if you're not a
- 18:33religious Jew, you're not a Jew. It
- 18:35doesn't mean that if you don't go and
- 18:37live in Israel,
- 18:38uh you're not a Jew. Uh or if you don't
- 18:41support Israel, you're not a Jew. It
- 18:42doesn't mean that. You're a Jew
- 18:43regardless. But Judaism is the fusion of
- 18:47these three things. And so, if you're an
- 18:49anti-Zionist, which means that
- 18:52you don't think that the Jews have a
- 18:54right to be in that land at all, then
- 18:57I'm afraid you are being anti-Judaism.
- 19:01Not necessarily anti-Jewish person, but
- 19:04anti-Judaism.
- 19:06And I you know, you're a nice person,
- 19:08and I don't think you really would want
- 19:10to be in that position. So, I'm just
- 19:12bringing that to your attention.
- 19:13Something like that
- 19:15uh in the right circumstances
- 19:18would hopefully take the person aback.
- 19:21It takes many Jews aback.
- 19:23Diaspora Jews don't think like this,
- 19:24many of them.
- 19:25>> Yeah. Um and it would make them think
- 19:28and hopefully open the mind a crack
- 19:32from through which other good stuff
- 19:34could, you know,
- 19:36come in.
- 19:37I think that's such a great point to you
- 19:39to make that point that this is actually
- 19:41a religious part of our identity. And
- 19:43quite frankly, it's quite farcical that
- 19:46you'll have these people who are, you
- 19:48know, they say, "I'm against Israel, but
- 19:50you know, I'm very supportive of Jews
- 19:52and the Jewish religion." It's like,
- 19:54have have they read the Torah? Do they
- 19:56have any idea what this book is? At a
- 19:58broad aerial view level, this is the
- 20:00story of the people of Israel being
- 20:03taken to their promised land of Israel.
- 20:05Like, that's it's the whole story. So,
- 20:08it's just absurd that they've created
- 20:09this
- 20:10separation. Um and one of the other
- 20:14things I wanted to talk to you about was
- 20:16which was being discussed, I think, on
- 20:18this Sky News panel that you were on and
- 20:21that's just been a recent development in
- 20:22the UK, is Kemi Badenoch, the leader of
- 20:25the Conservative Party, who's been
- 20:27really impressive in recent days with
- 20:29her moral backbone and clarity.
- 20:32She said that she wants to call now, in
- 20:35a really bold step, to ban these hate
- 20:39marches, these marches which purport to
- 20:41be pro-Palestinian, but of course we
- 20:43know are simply just anti-Jewish and
- 20:45anti-Israel. And I wanted to get your
- 20:46thoughts on that because there are some
- 20:48who are saying, even people on our on
- 20:50our side, that will say, "Yeah, but
- 20:53what about free speech?" And there's a
- 20:54bit of a slippery slope, and could this
- 20:56potentially create an even worse
- 20:58backlash? What what are your thoughts on
- 21:00on what she proposed?
- 21:01Look, free speech is very important.
- 21:04And, you You one should lean over
- 21:06backwards to allow people to
- 21:11march or demonstrate or protest
- 21:14on the basis of views that other people
- 21:16will find
- 21:18offensive, difficult, unconscionable,
- 21:20and so on.
- 21:22But there is a line beyond which a
- 21:25decent society doesn't go.
- 21:27And I suggest that line is not being
- 21:29applied systematically. It's our old
- 21:32friend double standards yet again.
- 21:35Supposing you had marches
- 21:39every week which
- 21:43defamed
- 21:45black people
- 21:47and said we want to get rid of black
- 21:49people and we don't think black people
- 21:51should be part of our society and we
- 21:54think black people are evil and they're
- 21:56doing terrible things.
- 21:58Would that be allowed? On the contrary,
- 22:01it would be unthinkable.
- 22:03Now why therefore are the Palestine
- 22:05marches allowed? Because think they're
- 22:07simply demonstrating against
- 22:11the behavior of Israel in Gaza. They're
- 22:13demonstrating in favor of in support of
- 22:17the Palestinian people. They have every
- 22:18right to do so. Well, they do have every
- 22:20right to protest against
- 22:23policies of
- 22:24Israel like anywhere else. And they
- 22:27certainly have the right to demonstrate
- 22:29on behalf of any people they consider to
- 22:31be oppressed.
- 22:33But that's not what these marches are.
- 22:35They are called rightly hate marches
- 22:37because they are promoting hate. They
- 22:40are chanting for the murder of Jews.
- 22:44Intifada now which means the murder of
- 22:45Jews across the world. I globalize the
- 22:48Intifada rather which is the murder of
- 22:50Jews across the world, at the
- 22:51destruction of Israel.
- 22:54Then they're shouting for Jihad
- 22:57and
- 22:58they are Um, know, the river to the
- 23:01river to the sea is the of Israel, and
- 23:03so on, so on, so on. Now, these things
- 23:05all break break British laws, actually.
- 23:07There are laws on the statute book
- 23:10against all these things, but they're
- 23:11not being enforced. But, I would suggest
- 23:14that that's what these marches actually
- 23:15are, and people of goodwill who are
- 23:19going on them uh thinking that they are
- 23:22just demonstrating against horrible
- 23:24Israel and for
- 23:26uh the oppressed Palestinians, that may
- 23:29be genuine. They may genuinely that.
- 23:31But, the fact is, they are marching
- 23:33alongside people shouting these things,
- 23:35and therefore they are themselves part
- 23:38of this hate movement. Yeah. Now,
- 23:41um as somebody said in Parliament, I
- 23:44think, uh the other day,
- 23:47uh or I think it may be in the um uh uh
- 23:49um the uh
- 23:51counterterrorism guy.
- 23:54Um, it's it's just not possible to
- 23:56separate out these um these terrible
- 23:59things that are being uh chanted from
- 24:01the demonstration. They are inescapably
- 24:04giving rise to these um to this
- 24:07incitement and this lawbreaking. And
- 24:11you know,
- 24:12people have said, uh very
- 24:14understandably, it's appalling that the
- 24:16police are just, you know, standing by
- 24:19and letting this happen. The fact is,
- 24:21that if these marches go ahead, uh if
- 24:23the police were to take on uh all these
- 24:26people, um
- 24:28there are thousands of them uh they
- 24:30would have to take on, and you'd have
- 24:32riots. Um, and it's just not it's just
- 24:35not not feasible. The marches themselves
- 24:38are the problem. Um, and so
- 24:41I personally think that absolutely they
- 24:43should never have been allowed and
- 24:45should not be allowed. There is another
- 24:46point to these marches,
- 24:48uh which um
- 24:49is an even more difficult point to make
- 24:51uh
- 24:52in these current in this current
- 24:54climate, but I believe it to be very
- 24:55important.
- 24:57Um we know that the first
- 25:01uh attempt or the
- 25:03the the first initiative to have one of
- 25:05these marches took place on October the
- 25:087th. Yeah. That was when the first
- 25:10application was made for the first
- 25:11march, I believe, in in London.
- 25:14Now, I think it's wrong to think of
- 25:16these marches as primarily being
- 25:18organized in order to protest about the
- 25:21war in Gaza.
- 25:22These marches are primarily organized
- 25:25They're organized primarily by um
- 25:27Islamists of various stripes, Hamas,
- 25:30Iran, whatever, and their acolytes in
- 25:33Britain. But they But the driving force
- 25:35is Islamism is Islamists. Um and
- 25:39what they're all about is an ecstatic,
- 25:43delirious
- 25:44um celebration
- 25:46uh
- 25:47of the fact that they believe that
- 25:50October 7th breached Israel's defenses
- 25:53in a way that had not been thought
- 25:54possible, and that from that moment on
- 25:58the way was becoming clear for them to
- 26:00finally defeat Israel, kill Jews, and
- 26:03then move on to defeat the West. And
- 26:06that is what's kept it all going is this
- 26:08belief that they are on a roll, that
- 26:10they are on the winning side. And that
- 26:13belief has been hugely
- 26:16fueled by the perceptible reality that
- 26:21the British state, like other
- 26:23governing classes in different
- 26:25countries, but the British state is
- 26:27sitting back and letting it happen. So,
- 26:29what they're letting happen
- 26:31is first of all um
- 26:34a movement on the streets which is
- 26:37celebrating and inciting people to join
- 26:40in for the final battle to destroy
- 26:43Israel, kill Jews, and then take over
- 26:46the West.
- 26:48Um and there is
- 26:50what I'm actually saying, therefore, is
- 26:53that what we have on the streets in
- 26:54these marches
- 26:56is actually
- 26:57the jihad. This is what it is. Um this
- 27:01is how this is one of the ways in which
- 27:02it's done. You you you take to this you
- 27:05you take to you take over public space
- 27:08of a secular state and you as it were
- 27:11lay down your flag or you raise your
- 27:14banner in that secular space and you say
- 27:17it's no longer a secular space. It's
- 27:20ours. We are now taking over.
- 27:23Um it's a sign. It's a signal. It's a
- 27:26signal to the faithful that we are on
- 27:28the way to defeat Britain. Um it's a
- 27:31it's a kind of uprising. Um and people
- 27:35can't see this because they don't
- 27:37understand what Islamism is. They never
- 27:39have done in Britain and no government
- 27:43uh minister has ever said it.
- 27:46Um but that's what they're that's what
- 27:47they've allowed to happen. They've
- 27:49allowed the streets to be taken over by
- 27:51Islamism.
- 27:52And that is incredibly
- 27:55dangerous and important and significant
- 27:57for the security of Britain as a whole.
- 28:01Uh because you know, the streets are
- 28:03where the battle is being joined and
- 28:07useful idiots who are not Muslims are
- 28:10coming along to join in on the basis
- 28:12that they are, you know, opposing Israel
- 28:14and supporting the Palestinians. But
- 28:17actually, what they're doing is being is
- 28:20being suborned into the jihad.
- 28:23Um and this is fantastically important
- 28:27for Britain. If Britain wants to
- 28:30If Britain wanted to
- 28:33um put down a red line
- 28:36against the Islamization of Britain,
- 28:38against the attempt to turn Britain
- 28:40Islamic, it would be saying
- 28:43these marches, we know what these
- 28:45marches are. We're not going to have
- 28:46that. And we are going to show the
- 28:48Islamists that we understand the game
- 28:51they are playing and we are not going to
- 28:54allow it. And that itself would send a
- 28:57very, very important signal to those
- 28:59Islamists that, "Okay, Britain is
- 29:02fighting back. It is not what we
- 29:04thought, which is, you know, it's just
- 29:07lying down in front of us or offering
- 29:10its throat to be cut by us. Um if we've
- 29:12got a fight on our hands."
- 29:14Unfortunately, British state doesn't do
- 29:16that. Few people understand that. But I
- 29:18think it's actually very important
- 29:19aspect of these marches. Something
- 29:21remarkable is happening. For decades,
- 29:23the world told us the problem was
- 29:25Zionism, occupation, international law.
- 29:28But lately, the mask is slipping.
- 29:30Mohammed Hijab, millions of followers,
- 29:32said in his own words, It's not just
- 29:34Zionism, it's Judaism [music] as well.
- 29:36They believe they are superior to you.
- 29:40Tucker Carlson, from the other
- 29:41direction, keeps insisting, "Sorry, but
- 29:43the Jews are not the chosen people. That
- 29:45there is no chosen people. The chosen
- 29:47people are people who choose Jesus.
- 29:51Notice what both of these people, coming
- 29:53from completely opposite worlds, have in
- 29:55common. They're not talking about 1948.
- 29:57They're not talking about land. They're
- 29:59not even talking about Israel. They're
- 30:01talking about Jewish chosenness.
- 30:06And here's what blows my mind. This is
- 30:08not a modern argument. This argument is
- 30:10as old as the first two brothers who
- 30:13ever lived, Cain and Abel.
- 30:16God chooses one offering, not the other.
- 30:18And instead of learning from his
- 30:20brother, Cain kills him.
- 30:21>> [music]
- 30:22>> The blueprint is right there at the very
- 30:24start. And it plays out again with
- 30:27Ishmael and Isaac.
- 30:29The roots of the Islamic world's
- 30:31relationship with the Jewish people.
- 30:33And with Esau and Jacob, the roots of
- 30:35the Christian West's.
- 30:38The two great fault lines of Jewish
- 30:39history.
- 30:41And both of them begin not on a
- 30:43battlefield,
- 30:47but in a nursery.
- 30:51And here's what's extraordinary. The
- 30:53rabbis of the Talmud, thousands of years
- 30:55ago, summarized this whole phenomenon in
- 30:57just one sentence. Hatred, sina, comes
- 31:00from Sinai. Sina is Hebrew for hatred.
- 31:04From the moment the Jewish people
- 31:05formalized their covenant with God at
- 31:07Mount Sinai,
- 31:09the world's resentment was ignited.
- 31:11In this JTV documentary, we're going all
- 31:14the way back.
- 31:16Back to the very first fracture in human
- 31:18history.
- 31:19Back to the first act of violence ever
- 31:21recorded. Because when you understand
- 31:24that moment,
- 31:26you understand anti-Semitism completely,
- 31:29where it truly comes from, why facts and
- 31:31arguments alone will never be enough to
- 31:32defeat it, but most importantly, what
- 31:35the Torah has always known about how to
- 31:37finally heal it. Because for the first
- 31:39time, we're not just diagnosing the
- 31:41world's oldest disease, we're finding
- 31:44the cure.

- 31:54I could not agree more. And one of the
- 31:56fundamental problems in the West, which
- 31:58you've been raising the red flag about
- 32:01for a long time, is that these people
- 32:03are utilizing the freedoms of the West
- 32:05in order to destroy it. And there has to
- 32:06be a point at which we say stop. And
- 32:08after the stabbing attack last week, I
- 32:10had a conversation with one of my rabbis
- 32:13in America, Rabbi Manis Friedman, and I
- 32:14said, "What do you think should be
- 32:15British Jews' message to the
- 32:16government?" And he said,
- 32:18"There should be demands that just more
- 32:20broadly, the standard of expectation in
- 32:22public life is raised. And that will
- 32:24have knock-on effects, ripple effects,
- 32:26precisely as you're saying." He compared
- 32:28it to uh Mayor Rudy Giuliani, that there
- 32:30was a you know, very steep drop in crime
- 32:33because and some people sociologists
- 32:35have connected it to even things
- 32:36unrelated to, you know, severe crime
- 32:38just like saying littering and spitting
- 32:40on the streets and and loud music is now
- 32:42going to be banned. So, when you rave
- 32:44right now, as you said, these Islamists
- 32:46and others think they can just they they
- 32:48can
- 32:49walk over everyone and walk over the
- 32:50streets. So, completely agree with that.
- 32:52And one of the other things that I feel
- 32:54like we've been taught to say it is one
- 32:56of those Hasbara cliches is um
- 33:00Look, criticism of Israel, of course
- 33:02that's legitimate. Of course there
- 33:03should be room for that. But our problem
- 33:05is when it becomes delegitimization
- 33:07dehumanization. I have to say that I'm
- 33:09getting a bit tired of saying that line.
- 33:11Not because it's not true, but because
- 33:14whenever is the criticism that we hear,
- 33:16I'm talking outside of is you know,
- 33:18pro-Israel and Jewish circles, outside
- 33:19of that, when is it ever actually a
- 33:21legitimate criticism and not just
- 33:23something that would undermine Israel's
- 33:25very ability to defend itself?
- 33:28Uh well, yes. I mean, it's not
- 33:30legitimate because it's based on lies,
- 33:33distortion, omission, um misleading uh
- 33:38misleading information of one kind or
- 33:40another. That's why it's not legitimate.
- 33:42Um so,
- 33:44uh
- 33:45you know, so so so
- 33:46>> is do you agree with my assessment that
- 33:47so basically most of what we hear, the
- 33:50criticism is not is is not even a
- 33:52legitimate form of criticism even if
- 33:53it's
- 33:54>> Oh, yes. It's I mean, I I I I don't
- 33:56think I hear legitimate criticism. I
- 33:58mean, okay. You can people can, you
- 34:00know, they they they hate Netanyahu.
- 34:03Okay, fine. Uh they think that, you
- 34:05know, uh Ben Gvir and Smotrich are
- 34:08beyond the pale. Okay, that's fine.
- 34:09That's a legitimate point of view.
- 34:12Um they can say that, you know, Israel's
- 34:14policies are are wrong. Um
- 34:18fine. But if they say that Israel
- 34:21effectively has no right to defend
- 34:23itself. And if they make Israel's um
- 34:27self-defense uh
- 34:29uh Uh, if if they if they expect Israel
- 34:32in its in its self-defense to attain
- 34:36totally unattainable uh standards, um
- 34:40like, you know, don't kill a single
- 34:42civilian kind of thing, Yeah.
- 34:44>> um then it becomes preposterous. And
- 34:46that's not legitimate criticism at all.
- 34:48That's something quite different. Uh
- 34:50that is prejudice. That is double
- 34:52standards. And that is malevolent. Uh
- 34:55so, that is the distinction that should
- 34:58be made. And
- 35:00on the basis of that kind of
- 35:01distinction, I think I agree. There's
- 35:04been very little
- 35:07legitimate criticism because people
- 35:09aren't interested in criticizing the
- 35:11policies of the state of Israel. Why
- 35:12would they be? I mean, they're no
- 35:14they're no they're no more interested in
- 35:16criticizing them than they are of
- 35:17criticizing the policies of Belgium.
- 35:20It's It's irrelevant. The reason that
- 35:22they
- 35:23so-called criticize Israel is because
- 35:26they want to jump up and down on its
- 35:28head.
- 35:29Of course.
- 35:29>> Um of course. As they do, for example,
- 35:31against, you know, um Republican
- 35:33America, Trump's America.
- 35:35Uh they don't uh leap to denounce
- 35:39America when it's run by a uh by a
- 35:42democratic by by a democratic president.
- 35:45Um
- 35:45so, it's it's where we're talking about
- 35:47malice. We're talking about malevolence.
- 35:50Uh and it's very easy to see. Once Once
- 35:53you see it, you can't stop seeing it.
- 35:55Yeah.
- 35:56The broadcaster Mehdi Hasan uh just
- 35:58recently on X uh had a bit of a go at
- 36:00you, which I would consider to be a
- 36:01badge of honor. Um and uh I I saw you
- 36:05responded as well. I just wanted to get
- 36:06that up on the screen here so uh people
- 36:08can see this. Um let me just zoom out a
- 36:11bit so people can see this. So, um Chris
- 36:13Doyle uh wrote, "Why is Melanie
- 36:15Phillips, who's talking about you being
- 36:16on Sky News, who denies the existence of
- 36:18Palestinians as a people, who is an
- 36:20apologist for genocide and apartheid,
- 36:22and blatantly anti-Muslim being
- 36:24platformed?" And Mehdi Hasan writes,
- 36:26"Oh, that Melanie Phillips who has
- 36:28engaged in the most unhinged and vicious
- 36:29bigotry, the forces of Islam are a death
- 36:32death cult. No such thing as a
- 36:34Palestinian people continues to be
- 36:36invited onto news shows tells you
- 36:38everything about our media's double
- 36:39standards on racism and extremism." And
- 36:43you replied, "Thanks so much for the
- 36:45plug, Mehdi, and how delightful that Mem
- 36:46Am Danni came to your party in New
- 36:48[laughter] York last night." Um, I mean,
- 36:51I looked at that and look at these
- 36:52things he's accusing you of, I think
- 36:55what's not to disagree with here? You
- 36:57know, this is you're just stating the
- 36:58truth.
- 36:59Well, some of it is not what not to
- 37:01disagree with and some of it is stuff
- 37:03that I just haven't said. Um, so, um,
- 37:07you know, uh,
- 37:09uh,
- 37:10Well, for example, there not being a
- 37:12coherent Palestinian nation I guess is a
- 37:15fact.
- 37:16>> I I absolutely and that is that is I
- 37:18think you know, a demonstrable fact. But
- 37:21other stuff that he describes to me is
- 37:24just not true.
- 37:26Um, and it's just you know, defamatory.
- 37:28But frankly, I mean, who cares about
- 37:30Mehdi Hasan and Chris Doyle? I mean,
- 37:33these are apologists
- 37:35for
- 37:36unconscionable people doing
- 37:38unconscionable things.
- 37:40Um, and I mean, why you know, I mean, I
- 37:43just don't even feel the need to bother
- 37:46with the arguments that they make most
- 37:47of the time.
- 37:49They have to be you know, they have to
- 37:50be treated with derision.
- 37:52I mean, that's how they should be
- 37:53treated because they should have no
- 37:56standing whatsoever anywhere.
- 37:59I mean, intellectually, they're just
- 38:01rubbish.
- 38:02Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And
- 38:05what do you say to those who feel let's
- 38:07say on our side, they're just too
- 38:09nervous to say something as bold as
- 38:11well, there is no Palestinian nation
- 38:13even though you and I know that's the
- 38:14case or they're nervous to talk about
- 38:16the problems that exist in Islamic
- 38:18culture even though the data and the
- 38:19polling literally demonstrate there are
- 38:21widespread problems, but they're just
- 38:23scared to say it. Yeah, I think
- 38:25certainly people are very frightened,
- 38:27terrified in fact, to speak
- 38:31critically about anything in the Islamic
- 38:33world.
- 38:34And I think that fear drives all before
- 38:36it, but on the other hand,
- 38:38in in addition to that, people are very
- 38:40ignorant of the Islamic world
- 38:43and of Islam and consequently they don't
- 38:46feel that they are able to to say
- 38:49anything. And both of those feelings are
- 38:51I think perfectly understandable, but
- 38:53they are unfortunate cuz people should
- 38:55know and they should speak up. But
- 38:58when the when you consider um
- 39:01uh
- 39:03the argument that there is no such thing
- 39:06as the Palestinian people.
- 39:08Um again,
- 39:10tremendous amount of ignorance about
- 39:11this and certainly fear because, you
- 39:14know, it goes against the kind of core
- 39:17belief of all right-thinking people,
- 39:20i.e. wrong-thinking people.
- 39:22Um but um
- 39:25I have to say and this is an you know
- 39:28it's an unfortunate fact that many Jews
- 39:33don't know that.
- 39:34Yeah. Uh there are many Jews who think
- 39:37um well, you know, Palestinians are
- 39:39fine, but Hamas is awful or you know, of
- 39:42course we should have a two-state
- 39:43solution because there are lots and lots
- 39:45of Palestinians who just want a decent
- 39:46life.
- 39:48Uh and you know, we have to we have to
- 39:49find ways of of of empowering them. This
- 39:52is all great if it were true.
- 39:54Um so I produced lots of arguments which
- 39:58I think are founded in fact, in law and
- 40:00in history. Um
- 40:03and in reality to show it's not true,
- 40:05but um there are lots of Jews who will
- 40:09not believe this. They don't want to
- 40:11believe it. They want to believe that
- 40:14there are lots and lots of Palestinians
- 40:16with whom we can do business. Now, you
- 40:18know, I'm mainly living in Israel now.
- 40:22And
- 40:25the idea
- 40:27of a Palestine state
- 40:29um
- 40:30ceased to have political traction quite
- 40:32some time ago. I think the second
- 40:35intifada dealt a heavy blow to that
- 40:39uh because people then thought, well,
- 40:41there is no what's called partner for
- 40:43peace.
- 40:44Uh there is no Palestinian uh authority
- 40:47uh by which I mean leader
- 40:49uh who is prepared to make this peace.
- 40:51And so, it's you know, it's just not
- 40:54it's it's not a practical proposition.
- 40:56And Israeli politicians who would argue
- 40:59for the two-state solution uh find that,
- 41:02you know, they don't get much public
- 41:03support. Nevertheless, I think there was
- 41:07a great sort of reservoir of hope that
- 41:10it could be possible.
- 41:12Um and a great reservoir of hope that,
- 41:14you know, there were lots of
- 41:15Palestinians
- 41:16uh
- 41:17who were just so ill-served by their
- 41:21leaders and who, if they were better
- 41:24served by better leaders, uh would come
- 41:26on board and would live alongside
- 41:28Israel. I think a lot of people, well, I
- 41:30don't know about a lot, but certainly
- 41:32some thought that.
- 41:33Mhm. And certainly, it was that was what
- 41:35was believed by those people who lived
- 41:38in what's called the Gaza envelope,
- 41:41uh the kibbutz communities alongside
- 41:44Gaza.
- 41:45Uh we know uh so many of them befriended
- 41:48Gazans,
- 41:49uh befriended Palestinians, uh worked
- 41:53made a point of working with them, uh
- 41:56performed all kinds of acts of kindness
- 41:59for them,
- 42:00uh drove them to hospital appointments
- 42:03in Israel and so on and so forth. And we
- 42:06know that um
- 42:09those Gazans took the opportunity of
- 42:13those close relationships to map out
- 42:16every house and every street and every
- 42:18family in order that they should be
- 42:20murdered. And we also know from what the
- 42:23hostages who
- 42:24survived have told us
- 42:27that not one Gazan came to their aid.
- 42:31Not one Gazan showed them kindness and
- 42:34not one Gazan
- 42:36informed
- 42:37to the Israelis on where they were in
- 42:39order to save them.
- 42:41And then you also look at the polling,
- 42:44the Palestinian
- 42:46polling that's been that's taken place
- 42:49regularly. And since October 7th,
- 42:53we've looked at it with keen interest to
- 42:57see whether attitudes have changed, how
- 42:59attitudes have changed.
- 43:01And the overwhelming majority of the
- 43:04ordinary Gazans and even more of the
- 43:08overwhelm of the ordinary
- 43:11Palestinian Arabs living in what's
- 43:13called the West Bank.
- 43:14They approved of October 7th, they
- 43:17cheered it
- 43:19and they would want it to happen again
- 43:20and they want Israel gone and they want
- 43:22Jews dead.
- 43:23Now,
- 43:25um
- 43:26that is, you know,
- 43:29that is why in Israel since October 7th,
- 43:33there has been, you know, a much harder
- 43:38attitude, a hardening of the attitude
- 43:40towards the Palestinian Arabs on the
- 43:42basis that
- 43:44if we ever thought that we could
- 43:48have a situation in which they would be
- 43:50prepared to let us live here in our
- 43:54Jewish state,
- 43:55where we were wrong. They weren't.
- 43:58They don't and they won't ever. We know
- 44:00that now and that has produced a I think
- 44:03a change in, you know, Israeli political
- 44:06attitudes as a result. I mean, public
- 44:08attitudes.
- 44:09Yeah. Yeah. I saw a funny line the other
- 44:11day that said, 99% of Palestinians
- 44:13really do give the rest a bad name.
- 44:15>> [laughter]
- 44:16>> And uh you know, I think I think that
- 44:18>> say I mean I mean, let me interrupt you.
- 44:20Clearly,
- 44:21there are there have to be some decent
- 44:24Palestinians. Of course.
- 44:25By the way, I learned recently that it's
- 44:28uh that that there was actually a Gazan
- 44:31uh someone personally seems to become
- 44:33aware of this that gave intel to the IDF
- 44:36and lost and Hamas ended up killing him.
- 44:38And it ended up providing intel for a
- 44:40hostage. So, I know it's very rare. I
- 44:42know also that from what we know it's
- 44:44very rare and we know that you know,
- 44:46from polling data and all that. But of
- 44:48course, I'm not making a you know, it
- 44:49was a joke. I'm not making a blanket
- 44:51statement on everyone saying that you
- 44:53know, there there are you know,
- 44:55immutable characteristics that exist
- 44:57with the Arabs.
- 44:58>> Well, I'm talking I'm I'm talking about,
- 45:00you know, the statistical majority
- 45:03um
- 45:04which
- 45:05which suggests that those Palestinian
- 45:08Arabs who are um
- 45:11well-disposed, reasonably well-disposed
- 45:13towards the Israelis are few and far
- 45:16between.
- 45:17Yeah. Yeah. And and I also I I do
- 45:19believe that even maybe who knows, the
- 45:21majority of them could one day have uh
- 45:24you know, positive relationships with
- 45:26Jews but not under a Palestinian state
- 45:28because the whole Palestinian concept
- 45:31well, uh is inherently hateful and
- 45:33anti-Semitic in my view.
- 45:36>> you have to basically what's called
- 45:38denazify them.
- 45:40Um
- 45:40uh they are they have been inculcated uh
- 45:43from the cradle, generations of them, to
- 45:45hate Jews, to fear Jews, to loathe Jews,
- 45:49to want to murder Jews, and to destroy
- 45:51Israel, um and take it for themselves.
- 45:54But it's the Jewish thing that is so
- 45:56poisonous.
- 45:57Um and you have to basically
- 45:59deradicalize an
- 46:01an entire society. That's a tall order,
- 46:03isn't it? But, um that's what has to be
- 46:05done before you can actually uh hope
- 46:09that um peace can break out, proper
- 46:12peace can break out between the two the
- 46:14two communities. Yeah. But, my my
- 46:16personal view is that that peace can
- 46:18never we can never indulge in the idea
- 46:20that it could look like, you know, there
- 46:21being two states. So, I don't know what
- 46:23you know, Trump has proposed solution of
- 46:25remigration. Some have said Israel annex
- 46:27and then just I don't know have some
- 46:28autonomous and whatever. I I personally
- 46:30don't because there's too much in their
- 46:33culture and religious history uh and
- 46:35then this national identity they've
- 46:36created that's entirely cynical um that
- 46:39would risk be too much of a security
- 46:41risk for Israel. That's just my my view
- 46:42there. And also from a positive
- 46:43standpoint, I think, you know, we've
- 46:45given them a chance to have autonomy for
- 46:46100 years. Hasn't uh produced much. And
- 46:48from the positive standpoint, this
- 46:50actually is the Jewish people's land.
- 46:52More to the point, they've been offered
- 46:53a state of their own, I think, on six
- 46:55occasions at least. And every time, you
- 46:58know, either either um
- 47:00the Jews pre the state of Israel or the
- 47:03Israelis have accept have gone along
- 47:06with it, agreed to it, uh or indeed have
- 47:08offered it themselves. And in every
- 47:10occasion, the response has been to turn
- 47:13it down and
- 47:15redouble uh the campaigns of mass murder
- 47:19and war and terrorism. Yeah. Yeah. So,
- 47:21your book again, I just want to put up
- 47:22on screen for everyone, Fighting the
- 47:24Hate, A Handbook for Jews Under Siege.
- 47:26Really uh fantastic stuff. And you
- 47:29provide principles and specific tactics
- 47:31for engaging in debates on Israel and
- 47:34making the case for Israel. Um
- 47:37people should check uh check out your
- 47:38social media where they can get a flavor
- 47:40for that and also order the book on
- 47:41Amazon. Um but, can you give us What
- 47:44what do you feel is one of the core
- 47:46messages you're trying to get out to
- 47:48people in terms of the strategy shift
- 47:50that we need to employ?
- 47:52Uh
- 47:53well, um the main strategy shift is to
- 47:56stop playing defense and to get off the
- 47:59back foot onto the front foot. Um by
- 48:01which I mean um
- 48:04I think
- 48:05as long as I can remember um Jews have
- 48:08played defense uh faced with uh the
- 48:11allegations that have come at us uh
- 48:14about Israel. Uh we throw up our hands
- 48:16and say "Why are you being so horrible
- 48:18to us? We are the victims here. We are
- 48:20the victims of We are the targets of
- 48:22genocide. We are the victims of of of
- 48:24mass terror."
- 48:25Um we are um uh
- 48:29uh
- 48:29we are standing up for, you know, um
- 48:34our rights to live. Uh we adhere to
- 48:36legal principles. Why Why are you
- 48:38telling us these Why are you making
- 48:39these lies about us?
- 48:41It's not true. We're not committing
- 48:43genocide. How do I ridiculous um
- 48:46accusation. It's not true that the
- 48:48Israelis are killing so many uh
- 48:51civilians out of wanton disregard for
- 48:54their lives. It's not true. It's not
- 48:55true. It's not true. Now, all of that is
- 48:58correct, but it's the wrong strategy
- 49:00because if you engage with people who
- 49:04are hurling uh these defamatory lies at
- 49:07you,
- 49:08um if you engage with them on the ground
- 49:10that they've laid down,
- 49:11uh then you've lost before you started.
- 49:13It's the equivalent of the what When did
- 49:16you stop beating your wife question?
- 49:18Once you engage with that, if you try
- 49:20and answer it um then you get sucked
- 49:23into
- 49:25trying to you you get sucked into the
- 49:28impression that you're actually trying
- 49:30to weasel out of what's actually you've
- 49:33done. Whereas, the correct response is
- 49:35to say, "Well, this is a preposterous
- 49:37question. It's completely unanswerable.
- 49:39Um and so I won't answer it." So So what
- 49:42I'm So So my whole um
- 49:45uh
- 49:46underpinning the advice that I've given
- 49:48in the book is to say that that strategy
- 49:51has to change and that one should
- 49:55be um
- 49:58seeking to change the narrative uh to a
- 50:01small degree if you're just an
- 50:03individual
- 50:04uh and to a larger degree if you're a
- 50:06community leader. Change the narrative
- 50:08by um
- 50:10if you're an individual, as I said
- 50:12before, open the mind a crack. Uh
- 50:15putting into uh
- 50:17into the person's mind um
- 50:19a thought that they or
- 50:21a fact or an observation or a question
- 50:25that hasn't occurred to them and that
- 50:26actually expands their knowledge about
- 50:29Israel, Jews, Middle East uh to uh a
- 50:32limited extent
- 50:34um uh and that surprises them, that
- 50:36intrigues them
- 50:38um and that, you know,
- 50:40park your anger and distress as
- 50:42individuals. The anger and distress is
- 50:44overwhelming.
- 50:45The injustice of it, the insult, park
- 50:48it.
- 50:49You may feel better if you vent at them,
- 50:52but you're not going to get absolutely
- 50:54nowhere. Park your anger and distress
- 50:56and regard these attacks as an
- 50:58opportunity
- 50:59uh to um
- 51:01do something positive which will open
- 51:04their minds a crack. And therefore, you
- 51:08know, come up with
- 51:09one fact, one observation that will do
- 51:12that. Now, I've made several
- 51:14suggestions. People may not like those
- 51:15suggestions, but the point is that once
- 51:17you get into that frame of mind, once
- 51:19you get into that mode way of thinking,
- 51:21you make up your own um uh um
- 51:24uh
- 51:24reposts. And as far as the community is
- 51:27concerned, it's just got to get off off
- 51:28its knees. I mean, it is astonishing to
- 51:31me in Britain that, you know, the
- 51:32British Jewish leadership and I think
- 51:35this is they're not much different from
- 51:37America
- 51:38uh or well, Australia, they're a bit
- 51:40more feisty, but not much.
- 51:42Um they don't say what needs to be said.
- 51:44I mean, they you know, they well, yeah.
- 51:47In indeed, they they they they don't
- 51:50say, for example,
- 51:52what I've said earlier in this
- 51:53conversation, there's no such thing as
- 51:56uh Palestine. There's no such thing as
- 51:57the Palestinian people. It was cooked up
- 52:00in order to destroy Israel. They don't
- 52:02talk about Muslim anti-Semitism. What do
- 52:04they talk about? They talk about
- 52:04Islamophobia.
- 52:06I mean, the Jewish community leadership,
- 52:08you know, for the last N years has said
- 52:10Islamophobia is as bad as anti-Semitism
- 52:13is the same as anti-Semitism. We must
- 52:15fight those together. I mean, this is
- 52:17beyond
- 52:19stupid. Uh it is quite It is It is
- 52:22really quite immoral
- 52:24uh to make those make that uh
- 52:26equation, not least because it brands
- 52:30people like me who do talk about Muslim
- 52:33anti-Semitism as Islamophobic. So, it
- 52:35shuts people like me down for saying
- 52:38something that is necessary and
- 52:40important for people to hear.
- 52:42Um and in the defense of the Jewish
- 52:44people and in fact for wider as well.
- 52:47Uh so, um the Jewish community
- 52:49leadership has to get up off off its
- 52:50knees and it has to start It has to
- 52:52start saying things which are true, uh
- 52:55which they don't say. And it also should
- 52:58start um
- 53:00repositioning
- 53:01uh Jews um
- 53:04uh
- 53:05as not just fighting the good fight uh
- 53:08for Israel, which is a sort of very
- 53:10narrow canvas, but it should acknowledge
- 53:13what few Jewish leaders I think even
- 53:15think about,
- 53:16uh but certainly don't say, which is
- 53:19that the fight against anti-Jewish
- 53:21hatred uh
- 53:24is part of the fight to defend Western
- 53:26civilization, which is under attack from
- 53:29predatory Islam, from Islamism.
- 53:32Uh now,
- 53:34in that fight, the Jews have potentially
- 53:37many allies
- 53:39um in other minorities and in the
- 53:42majority. So, there are many uh
- 53:44Christians
- 53:45who are waiting for their own church to
- 53:49lead them in this fight and they find to
- 53:51their horror that it's actually in the
- 53:53forefront it's literally on its knees to
- 53:56predatory Islam and it's in the
- 53:58forefront of undermining the West West's
- 54:02own defenses
- 54:04of its historic identity. But, there are
- 54:07lots and lots of Christians who do get
- 54:09it and who are the Jews potential allies
- 54:12in this. I mean, Jews and Christians
- 54:14Jews should be joining with Christians
- 54:16to
- 54:17fight in the public sphere
- 54:21for recognition of an opposition to and
- 54:24protest against what's going on in
- 54:27Africa and other parts of the developing
- 54:29world in which Christians are being
- 54:33decimated, they're being massacred,
- 54:35they're being burned alive in their
- 54:37churches. No one speaks about this. What
- 54:40an opportunity that would be for Jews to
- 54:44make a point of
- 54:47allying with Christians
- 54:50and really campaigning on this. And this
- 54:52would achieve many things. First of all,
- 54:55it would
- 54:56improve relations between Jews and
- 54:58Christians.
- 54:59Secondly, it might well do some good in
- 55:03alerting the world or or focusing the
- 55:06world's conscience on what's happening
- 55:08to Christians and therefore it might
- 55:10alleviate their plight.
- 55:12And thirdly, and no less important, it
- 55:16would tell the great masses in the West
- 55:19who
- 55:20don't really think about national
- 55:22identity in terms of its core principles
- 55:26being embedded in the Bible, in
- 55:28Christianity and in Judaism. Um they
- 55:31regard these as irrelevant and they
- 55:32think that the core values that they
- 55:34believe in like, you know, um, um
- 55:38compassion and putting the
- 55:41the value putting the interest of other
- 55:43people
- 55:45first
- 55:46and
- 55:48upholding the value of every human life
- 55:50and all those sorts of things. They
- 55:52think that was given to the West by the
- 55:54Greeks or it's implanted in our DNA at
- 55:58birth. It's complete nonsense. It was
- 55:59given by the Bible by by Judaism
- 56:02actually and then
- 56:03uh, you know, through Christianity
- 56:05became the core values of the West. Now,
- 56:08if Jews and Christians were to unite
- 56:12in defense of Christians who are being
- 56:15slaughtered around the world, that would
- 56:18actually help tell the great masses in
- 56:20the West that there is something worth
- 56:23fighting for, that Western values are
- 56:26actually better than others,
- 56:28that they believe in the value of human
- 56:30life, that they really do believe in
- 56:32standing up against gross abuses of
- 56:34power and mass murder and that Jews and
- 56:37Christians are part of this great
- 56:39battle. This would be a tremendous
- 56:41thing. Instead of the West telling
- 56:43itself as it does, you know, everything
- 56:45the West does is awful.
- 56:48Um,
- 56:50the West is is just racist. It's it's
- 56:52it's just pathetic. It's it's it
- 56:54oppresses other people. As for Jews and
- 56:57Christians, well, they're just sort of
- 56:59ridiculous, backward-looking minorities.
- 57:02Who cares about them? It would transform
- 57:04everything. So, that was one example of
- 57:07where the Jewish community can be
- 57:08proactive
- 57:10and think out of the box.
- 57:12Uh, stand back, think out of the box,
- 57:14make allies and fight the good fight on
- 57:17behalf of a much wider swathe
- 57:21of society.
- 57:23Yeah, and you provide a bunch of really,
- 57:25uh, brilliant suggestions both from a,
- 57:27uh, strategy point of view but also in
- 57:28terms of specific arguments and how you
- 57:30would suggest turning the tables or
- 57:32responding to them. Again, really,
- 57:33really encourage people to get
- 57:34themselves a copy of this book. Um and
- 57:37in our bonus section, want to talk to
- 57:39you a bit about, you know, you've
- 57:40studied anti-Semitism now for such a
- 57:42long time and anti-Zionism, what you
- 57:44consider to be the deeper roots of this,
- 57:46what you really put this down to. And
- 57:47also, something we've been seeing more
- 57:50recently, the now very clear overlapping
- 57:53between the far left and the far right
- 57:56or the woke right or the woke Reich, as
- 57:58I heard Netanyahu call it, um and the
- 58:00Islamists and how and and how we can
- 58:02make sense of that. In the next bonus
- 58:04section, Melanie explains why the woke
- 58:06right and left and Islamists have all
- 58:08converged in their hostility toward
- 58:10Israel. And even more fascinatingly,
- 58:13what she believes is the only real
- 58:15explanation for Jew hatred. To join us
