2. 0:03Now after the Sabbath, as it began to
3. 0:06dawn toward the first day of the week,
4. 0:09Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came
5. 0:13to look at the grave. And behold, a
6. 0:16severe earthquake had occurred, for an
7. 0:19angel of the Lord descended [music] from
8. 0:21heaven, and came and rolled away the
9. 0:24stone, and sat upon it.
10. 0:27and his appearance was like lightning
11. 0:30and his clothing [music] as white as
12. 0:32snow.
13. 0:34The guards shook for fear of him and
14. 0:36became like dead men.
15. 0:39The angel said to the women, "Do not be
16. 0:42afraid, for I know that you are looking
17. 0:45for [music] Jesus who has been
18. 0:47crucified.
19. 0:49He is not here, for he has risen just as
20. 0:53he said.
21. 0:55Come see the place where he was lying.
22. 0:58Go quickly and tell his disciples that
23. 1:02he has risen from the dead. And behold,
24. 1:05he is going ahead of you into Galilee.
25. 1:08There you will see him. Behold, I have
26. 1:10told you.
27. 1:12And they left the tomb quickly with fear
28. 1:15and great joy, and ran to report it to
29. 1:18the disciples. And behold, Jesus met
30. 1:21them and greeted them. And they came up
31. 1:25and took hold of his feet and worshiped
32. 1:27him. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be
33. 1:30afraid. Go and take word to my [music]
34. 1:33brethren to leave for Galilee, and there
35. 1:36they will see me." Now while they were
36. 1:39on their way, some of the guard came
37. 1:41into the city and reported to the chief
38. 1:43priests all that had happened. And when
39. 1:46they had assembled with the elders and
40. 1:49consulted together, they gave a large
41. 1:52sum of money to the soldiers and said,
42. 1:56"You are to say, his disciples came by
43. 1:59night and stole him away while we were
44. 2:02asleep.
45. 2:04And if this should come to the
46. 2:06governor's ears, we will win him over
47. 2:09and keep you out of trouble because the
48. 2:12guards would have been put [music] to
49. 2:13death." This is an insane ruse that the
50. 2:16scribes and elders are attempting. And
51. 2:18they took the money and did as they had
52. 2:20been instructed. And this story was
53. 2:23widely spread among the Jews and is to
54. 2:26this day. But the 11 disciples proceeded
55. 2:30to Galilee to the mountain which Jesus
56. 2:33had designated.
57. 2:35When they saw him, they worshiped him,
58. 2:38but some were doubtful. And Jesus came
59. 2:41up and spoke to them, saying, "All
60. 2:45authority has been given to me in heaven
61. 2:49and on earth. Go therefore and make
62. 2:52disciples of all the nations, baptizing
63. 2:56them in the name of the Father and of
64. 2:59the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching
65. 3:02them to observe all that I have
66. 3:04commanded you. And lo, I am with you
67. 3:07always, even to the end of the age.
68. 3:11death couldn't hold him because what
69. 3:13gives the enemy power over us is sin.
70. 3:18So when Jesus allowed the enemy to hurt
71. 3:22him and to put him to death, he said, "I
72. 3:25see the ruler of this world coming, but
73. 3:27he has no hold on me. That means I won't
74. 3:31stay in his power."
75. 3:33He will exhaust his wrath. He will
76. 3:37exhaust the judgment that is due others.
77. 3:40But then I'm coming out of that grave
78. 3:42because he doesn't have any power over
79. 3:44me that I haven't allowed that God
80. 3:47hasn't permitted. And so he came out of
81. 3:50the grave. And then he goes and he meets
82. 3:53the disciples
83. 3:54and he tells them all authority in
84. 3:59heaven and on earth has been given to me
85. 4:02singular. Go therefore and make
86. 4:05disciples of all nations, baptizing them
87. 4:08in the name of the Father and of the Son
88. 4:11and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to
89. 4:13observe all that I commanded you. And
90. 4:16lo, I am with you always, even to the
91. 4:19end of the age. Jesus is alluding to the
92. 4:23messianic prophecy in Isaiah 9:6. Here,
93. 4:27that prophecy [music] says, "Unto us a
94. 4:30child is born. Unto us a son is given,
95. 4:33and the government shall be upon his
96. 4:36shoulders. All authority
97. 4:38shall be given to him in heaven and on
98. 4:40earth. [music]
99. 4:41And his name, the son's name shall be
100. 4:45called wonderful counselor, the Holy
101. 4:47Spirit, mighty God, everlasting [music]
102. 4:51father, prince of peace, and of the
103. 4:55increase of his government and peace
104. 4:57there will be no end.
105. 4:59So Jesus tells them, "Go and make
106. 5:02disciples [music]
107. 5:03because all of it has now been realized.
108. 5:07All the power of God has been realized
109. 5:10and deposited [music]
110. 5:11in Jesus Christ."
111. 5:13And he tells them to baptize in the
112. 5:15name, not the names. Father isn't a
113. 5:19name, son isn't a name, and Holy Spirit
114. 5:21isn't a name, but Jesus Christ is a
115. 5:24name. and he told them to baptize in the
116. 5:26name of the father, son, and holy
117. 5:29spirit. In the Greek, that's not plural,
118. 5:31that's singular.
119. 5:33Luke translates this same great
120. 5:35commission like this. And he told them
121. 5:38that repentance and remission of sins
122. 5:41would be preached to all nations,
123. 5:43beginning at Jerusalem, preached in his
124. 5:47name.
125. 5:48And in Jerusalem, that's exactly what
126. 5:50they did. They said,"Repent and let
127. 5:53every one of you be baptized in the name
128. 5:55of Jesus Christ because all authority in
129. 5:58heaven and on earth belonged to him." It
130. 6:02pleased the father that all his fullness
131. 6:04should dwell in Jesus in bodily form. He
132. 6:07had received the name of his father. He
133. 6:10had manifested his father to us. He had
134. 6:14revealed his father's glory and then he
135. 6:17ascended in glory. No more emptying, no
136. 6:20more kinosis.
137. 6:22He had become the radiance, the
138. 6:24outshining of God's nature, the exact
139. 6:27representation of his being.
