3. 0:03and I wish I could play the whole
4. 0:04exchange but it's it's too long I have a
5. 0:07kind of a longer clip that I'm going to
6. 0:08play it still but you can find the whole
7. 0:10clip of my what my Twitter page it's a a
8. 0:13during the Q a a person who identifies
9. 0:15as trans
10. 0:16who's going through transition right now
11. 0:19did come up to speak in the Q a and this
12. 0:22is doesn't happen very often this is
13. 0:23pretty rare I mean I do these q and A's
14. 0:26and anyone can come speak and I'm always
15. 0:28encouraging people don't agree with me
16. 0:29to come speak and very rarely do they
17. 0:31take me up on it they'd rather go uh
18. 0:33stay outside where they have their
19. 0:34numbers and they can shout into
20. 0:36megaphones and hold their signs and all
21. 0:37of that this was someone who actually
22. 0:39came and spoke and stood up there and uh
23. 0:42and I appreciate that it takes courage
24. 0:44it takes guts to do that
25. 0:46um from from you know from from his
26. 0:48perspective this is like walking into
27. 0:50Lion's Den this is behind enemy's
28. 0:52territory from his we're not his enemies
29. 0:55but that's how he would see it and so it
30. 0:57takes guts to do this so I thought this
31. 0:59was an important conversation I wanted
32. 1:00to share
33. 1:01um
34. 1:02a piece of it with you here it is
35. 1:05eight months ago I was diagnosed with
36. 1:08gender dysphoria while I was impatient
37. 1:10here in UW-Madison
38. 1:13um
39. 1:14I looked into the research and like
40. 1:16talked to doctors and through my uh
41. 1:19journey I decided to explore medically
42. 1:22transitioning
43. 1:24you know because it's shown to decrease
44. 1:27suicidal ideation stuff like that
45. 1:30um
46. 1:31and since then although I've had to deal
47. 1:34with other issues such as transphobia
48. 1:36and sexual assault I've been more
49. 1:40happier overall than I ever was before
50. 1:42and my question to you is what
51. 1:45specifically about medically
52. 1:47transitioning do you think is so immoral
53. 1:50that we should ignore the potential
54. 1:52benefits and why should I listen to you
55. 1:55as somebody who's not a medical
56. 1:57professional and has not experienced
57. 1:59gender dysphoria there's a dishonesty
58. 2:01behind it dishonesty in the false
59. 2:03promises that they make
60. 2:04which is that you can attain this image
61. 2:07of
62. 2:08maleness or femaleness
63. 2:10but that you can actually become in some
64. 2:12ways the the opposite gender or sex
65. 2:14whatever word you want to use
66. 2:16which is a lie it's not true
67. 2:17you never can and I I have a horrible
68. 2:21Adam's Apple my my voice sounds like
69. 2:24this I still love myself and there is
70. 2:27only when you spend money in making
71. 2:29people happy like wearing nice clothes
72. 2:31or good food it does cost a lot of money
73. 2:36that's why I can't get surgeries that
74. 2:38would make me a lot happier
75. 2:41um
76. 2:43but the point of medicine is not
77. 2:46supposed to be to make you happy in the
78. 2:48moment that's not that's not the
79. 2:50objective of medicine the objective of
80. 2:52medicine is your overall wellness it's
81. 2:54about treating what is actually wrong
82. 2:56that's that's medicine and so if you are
83. 3:00struggling to
84. 3:01accept
85. 3:03who who you were born as what your
86. 3:06actual biological identity is I have all
87. 3:08the compassion in the world for that I
88. 3:10mean I can't imagine having that
89. 3:12disconnect in my head it has to be a
90. 3:13source of immense despair
91. 3:16but what I hate is the is the medical
92. 3:18professionals who instead of helping you
93. 3:19with that and how instead of helping you
94. 3:21to accept who you really are and find
95. 3:24joy and fulfillment in it
96. 3:26they're trying to make a quick buck and
97. 3:27they're selling you false promises and
98. 3:29they're telling you this stuff is based
99. 3:30on long-term studies and they're lying
100. 3:32to you because it's not there have never
101. 3:34been any reliable long-term studies on
102. 3:36almost all of this stuff because the
103. 3:38fact is the medical industry only
104. 3:39started doing this at such a large scale
105. 3:42recently so they couldn't have the data
106. 3:44they're pretending that they do they're
107. 3:46lying and that's what I hate
108. 3:49that's that's the immorality
109. 3:53[Applause]
110. 3:57okay so like I said that was a piece of
111. 3:58that's kind of the beginning and the end
112. 4:00and then there's the middle two which
113. 4:01you can find on my uh you can find on
114. 4:03YouTube where you find it on Twitter
115. 4:05um and I wanted to show that to you
116. 4:06because first of all again I just I
117. 4:07appreciate the fact that somebody was
118. 4:09actually willing to go and stand up
119. 4:11there and ask a question
120. 4:13um
121. 4:14and and also
122. 4:16I want to show that it's it's you know
123. 4:19we have this idea
124. 4:21that when you're talking to someone who
125. 4:23actually is trans or actually identifies
126. 4:25that way and is going through the whole
127. 4:28process that it's like we have to choose
128. 4:30between
129. 4:31being compassionate
130. 4:33or being truthful
131. 4:35those are two
132. 4:37separate paths those are two different
133. 4:39choices that's the way it's presented
134. 4:41that's not the case I think you can be
135. 4:43compassionate and also
136. 4:47um say what is true
137. 4:50which is what I tried to do there now if
138. 4:52I have one regret
139. 4:53and this is not meant as a criticism of
140. 4:55the audience who are great and really
141. 4:57all the audiences we've had on this
142. 4:59store have been have been awesome very
143. 5:00supportive and I appreciate them all
144. 5:02very much but I regret in some ways the
145. 5:04Applause for me at the end there not
146. 5:06that it was inappropriate it's just you
147. 5:07know it's the audience's way of saying
148. 5:09they agree and um and it was not it's
149. 5:13not like a combative Applause but it's
150. 5:15uh it's the nature of the Forum that's
151. 5:16how it works in that kind of form that's
152. 5:18fine but it does you know kind of makes
153. 5:20it sound maybe at the end like uh Matt
154. 5:23Walsh destroys type of video and that's
155. 5:26not what it is it's not what I intended
156. 5:28I certainly hope that the the student
157. 5:30you know didn't that that wasn't his
158. 5:32takeaway
159. 5:33um it's not this is not a matter of
160. 5:35trying to debunk or embarrass someone
161. 5:37certainly
162. 5:39um I care about him I do um I I care
163. 5:43about these kids who are being taken
164. 5:45advantage of
165. 5:47I know a lot of them
166. 5:49hate my guts they think that I'm a
167. 5:52horrible person I'm a monster and I get
168. 5:54that
169. 5:55that's how the way they see it that's
170. 5:57okay
171. 5:59but I care about them
172. 6:01that's
173. 6:03that's why I care about the issue
174. 6:04because people like that
175. 6:08who are
176. 6:09dealing with something dealing with
177. 6:12something real but it's internal it's
178. 6:14like something in his mind something
179. 6:16real
180. 6:17and if I had a chance to follow up with
181. 6:18that student I would tell them
182. 6:20first of all that you know it's it's
183. 6:22gonna be okay I know I know he's
184. 6:24suffering I don't doubt that
185. 6:27I know it
186. 6:28uh but it's going to be okay he is okay
187. 6:30there's nothing wrong with him
188. 6:31physically he says there that he uh he
189. 6:34talks about he hates his Adam's apple
190. 6:36and his voice but
191. 6:38there's nothing wrong with any of that
192. 6:39you know that's that's that's him that's
193. 6:41who he is
194. 6:42and there is nothing wrong with that at
195. 6:45all
196. 6:47that's who you are there's nothing wrong
197. 6:49with who you are
198. 6:51the the trouble is is when your mind is
199. 6:55not able to
200. 6:57reconcile with who you are or for
201. 6:59whatever reason is not wanting to accept
202. 7:02who you are
203. 7:04and so it's that struggle to accept that
204. 7:06that is the fundamental issue that we
205. 7:08need to try to address
206. 7:10as I'm always saying it is very much on
207. 7:13our side which is the side of uh of
208. 7:16Truth is very much a message of actual
209. 7:20self-acceptance
210. 7:22of real affirmation
