  8. 0:26worldwide but new high quality evidence
  9. 0:30shows that a simple technique has the
  10. 0:32power to save the lives of hundreds of
  11. 0:34thousands of these babies every

  14. 0:41continuous skin to- skinin contact
  15. 0:44between a mother and a baby held
  16. 0:46securely in a sling or rep for as many
  17. 0:49hours in a day as possible and exclusive
  18. 0:53breast
  19. 0:55feeding
  20. 0:56wh recommends kangaroo mother care as
  21. 1:00the essential standard of care for all
  22. 1:03pre-m or small babies both well and sick
  23. 1:07starting immediately after
  24. 1:09birth it has been shown to save lives
  25. 1:13reducing infections and hypo theia and
  26. 1:17improving feeding it provides immense
  27. 1:20benefits compared with a common current
  28. 1:23practice whereby small or pre-m newborns

  38. 1:52immediately after birth fathers partners
  39. 1:56and family members can provide help and
  40. 1:58relief stepping in when Mom needs rest
  41. 2:03facilities and health workers can help
  42. 2:06ensure mother and baby stay together
  43. 2:09right after birth even when the baby is
  44. 2:12sick for many facilities this will
  45. 2:16require a radical shift in the way care
  46. 2:18is provided so that mother and baby
  47. 2:22receive Medical Care together in one
  48. 2:25place even if the baby is sick and needs
  49. 2:29intensive
  50. 2:30care governments should recognize and
  51. 2:33fund kangaroo mother care as essential
  52. 2:36for all pream or small
