  1. 0:00I'm a big fan of pionodons mods for
  2. 0:03factorio
  3. 0:04and I keep seeing new players struggling
  4. 0:07with the same problem over and over
  5. 0:09again
  6. 0:10they're built too big wasting lots of
  7. 0:12time and burning out too fast
  8. 0:15so I decided to speed run the early
  9. 0:18phase of a piano dance game and record
  10. 0:21it to provide the community with a
  11. 0:23counter example
  12. 0:25you can watch the full videos in case
  13. 0:27you are interested 25 hours full of
  14. 0:31running around in the factory chopping
  15. 0:33down trees and placing an absurd amount
  16. 0:35of belts pipes and inserters
  17. 0:37but if you want a condensed rundown
  18. 0:39instead you came to the right place this
  19. 0:43is the summary of that speed run up to
  20. 0:45reaching Logistics science packs who am
  21. 0:48I I started playing pie after the
  22. 0:51release of Pi alien live
  23. 0:53I participated in the beta phase of Pi
  24. 0:56alternative energy to improve the mod
  25. 0:58pack itself
  26. 1:00I tried to help other players in the
  27. 1:02Discord whenever I have the time for it
  28. 1:05I have even written a very long guide
  29. 1:08for new players all of that because the
  30. 1:12factory Community must grow
  31. 1:16the speed run turned out to be even
  32. 1:19faster than I anticipated in the
  33. 1:21beginning
  34. 1:22simple circuit boards at around 7 hours
  35. 1:25by one science picks just a few hours
  36. 1:29later
  37. 1:30in the metallics at around 14 hours
  38. 1:32Logistics science packs and personal
  39. 1:34construction Bots at around 25 hours
  40. 1:39I even managed to build the first parts
  41. 1:41of a rail network
  42. 1:43this is a great time to look back and
  43. 1:46appreciate my progress
  44. 1:49but before I start to retrace my steps
  45. 1:52it is important to share some thoughts
  46. 1:54about my play style and strategy
  47. 1:57I don't use additional mods I just don't
  48. 2:01see the need for it
  49. 2:02I don't like warehouses and tanks full
  50. 2:05of stuff
  51. 2:06that just hides production issues
  52. 2:09instead I try to produce exactly the
  53. 2:13amount I consume with some exceptions
  54. 2:16I have no issues whatsoever to overflow
  55. 2:19avoid stuff
  56. 2:21especially everything that is produced
  57. 2:23from raw coal Simplicity always wins
  58. 2:27I automate to save time in the long run
  59. 2:30I don't automate if the effort isn't
  60. 2:33worth it
  61. 2:34I don't change what doesn't need a
  62. 2:36change
  63. 2:37but also means that some of my broader
  64. 2:40mining drills are still running
  65. 2:42I try to wait with upgrades until the
  66. 2:46right moment
  67. 2:47I don't waste resources on
  68. 2:49infrastructure
  69. 2:51that's it let's get started at the very
  70. 2:53beginning
  71. 2:55the crashed spaceship is still here and
  72. 2:59it will be at the end of this video
  73. 3:02I have a very simple build that produces
  74. 3:04Stone and stone bricks as well as some
  75. 3:07kerogene for hand feeding with the other
  76. 3:09mining operations
  77. 3:11sure it will lock up after some time but
  78. 3:14I need to rebuild it soon anyway
  79. 3:17of course I fueled my iron and copper
  80. 3:20production by hand in the very beginning
  81. 3:22on automating that pays off quickly as
  82. 3:26you can see I'm a big fan of smelting
  83. 3:28iron and copper on top of the oil patch
  84. 3:30Simplicity wins
  85. 3:33I save some resources for inserters by
  86. 3:36leaving the ash in the buildings for now
  87. 3:39due to the high stack size this is not
  88. 3:41an issue for quite some time
  89. 3:44mining drills for coal will run for 90
  90. 3:47minutes mine includes for iron and
  91. 3:49copper don't run in full capacity and
  92. 3:52therefore they run for two hours and the
  93. 3:55stone furnaces for iron and copper will
  94. 3:58even run for four hours
  95. 4:00I can use the safe resources for faster
  96. 4:03expansion instead
  97. 4:06this setup for power and soil is just
  98. 4:09temporary
  99. 4:10this little base gives me everything to
  100. 4:13hand craft the first automation science
  101. 4:16packs
  102. 4:17I automate small parts Airco inductors
  103. 4:20and some basic infrastructure like
  104. 4:23inserters belts and pipes and that's my
  105. 4:26Mall when looking at automation science
  106. 4:28you can really see my weakness for
  107. 4:30Barrette insertion
  108. 4:32this build can produce 12 automation
  109. 4:34science packs per minute if given enough
  110. 4:37resources
  111. 4:38I set up a proper mining operation for
  112. 4:41stolen and an oversized production of
  113. 4:43stone bricks
  114. 4:44there is no use for kerogene yet so it
  115. 4:47piles up in chests there is a bit of a
  116. 4:50buffer for stone bricks should I decide
  117. 4:53to lay down floor tiles
  118. 4:55I also increased production when
  119. 4:57necessary native Flora for automation
  120. 5:00science copper plates for infrastructure
  121. 5:03coal mining for fuel and power
  122. 5:06production
  123. 5:07my boilers receive a simple treatment
  124. 5:09for the ash problem
  125. 5:11a single inserter needs over 14 hours to
  126. 5:15fill an iron chest with Ash
  127. 5:17by using two inserters for raw coal or
  128. 5:20three inserters for Ash and the boilers
  129. 5:22these iron chests last even longer
  130. 5:25over 21 hours plenty of time for my
  131. 5:29intended speed of progression
  132. 5:31this build processes a full belt of raw
  133. 5:34coal into Coke tar and coal gas
  134. 5:37almost the middle building is lacking
  135. 5:40one inserter
  136. 5:42the iron oxide supplements my iron plate
  137. 5:45production colgas is boiled
  138. 5:48tar is stored in gas vents because I
  139. 5:51don't want to build a few hundred pipes
  140. 5:53as buffer and a sinkhole needed steel
  141. 5:56plates speaking of which
  142. 5:58is larger than necessary and there is no
  143. 6:01better recipe for steel plates for a
  144. 6:04long time so at least I'm not wasting
  145. 6:07any resources and it can see almost in
  146. 6:11full form of production so I don't need
  147. 6:13to care about all of the avoiding code
  148. 6:16that would be a hassle before having
  149. 6:19some potassium and of course so many
  150. 6:22Advanced palm trees need more power I
  151. 6:25also immediately take the extra
  152. 6:26inventory slots from the light armor
  153. 6:30I produce a trickle of aluminum plates
  154. 6:33the pipe after the fluid mining drills
  155. 6:36acts similar to an overflow valve so I
  156. 6:39can void all excess color gas
  157. 6:42after making a car I built my first
  158. 6:45Outpost towards there is no need for
  159. 6:49over building it and just need a trickle
  160. 6:51for making some buildings
  161. 6:54my classworks are fueled by cold gas too
  162. 6:57I could have used the tire instead but I
  163. 7:01will need all of it soon
  164. 7:03this compact setup makes enough logs for
  165. 7:07science production
  166. 7:08at least after all three modules are
  167. 7:11made
  168. 7:11and I can tile this to the right in the
  169. 7:14future
  170. 7:16there is no belt for Coke
  171. 7:18because I intend to take the moon drop
  172. 7:20upgrade for carbon dioxide
  173. 7:23and there is no belt for ash because of
  174. 7:26its high stack size
  175. 7:28I need more iron
  176. 7:30building this Outpost required a huge
  177. 7:33amount of resources this iron patch even
  178. 7:36gets its own supply of coal and Ash
  179. 7:39removal is automated
  180. 7:41I want to leave this Outpost knowing
  181. 7:44that it runs flawlessly
  182. 7:46I thought this mixed belt near the
  183. 7:48center of my base for easier monitoring
  184. 7:51and potential changes
  185. 7:53Ash treatment is also added for code
  186. 7:56iron and copper
  187. 7:59I set up tin mining and smelting
  188. 8:02this setup is too big for now
  189. 8:04but rails are expensive and I want to
  190. 8:07set up a considerable buffer of thin
  191. 8:09plates for them
  192. 8:11I also intend to upgrade that process as
  193. 8:15soon as possible and leave this melting
  194. 8:17place near the center of my base for
  195. 8:20that reason
  196. 8:21I also set up seaweed and wound drop
  197. 8:24the production goes into chests and will
  198. 8:27be needed when expanding
  199. 8:30a little bit more copper plates can
  200. 8:32never be wrong
  201. 8:34who is part of my factory converts all
  202. 8:37the tar I produce into various liquids
  203. 8:40and Coke
  204. 8:42I will need the fluids later but for now
  205. 8:44creosote and Francine oil aromatics and
  206. 8:47gasoline are dumped into the ground
  207. 8:51I am after the coke
  208. 8:53Tower processing needs a huge amount of
  209. 8:56steam and I could provide a part of it
  210. 8:59by guarding the cow
  211. 9:01however destructive distillation of raw
  212. 9:04coal to Coke reduces its total fuel
  213. 9:07value so I don't like to burn that coke
  214. 9:10and if I'm not burning that cow why
  215. 9:13should I burn Coke from other sauces
  216. 9:15I drive out to another coal patch and
  217. 9:18just make some steam
  218. 9:21and I also try to dump excess tar by
  219. 9:24having the sinkhole after the important
  220. 9:27buildings and using some extra pipes
  221. 9:30it probably doesn't work perfectly but
  222. 9:33it makes sure that the factory does not
  223. 9:36lock up
  224. 9:37here is the place that consumes all that
  225. 9:40sweet Coke
  226. 9:42it makes a bunch of acetylene
  227. 9:45half of it is intended to use as liquid
  228. 9:47fuel the other half is used for mining
  229. 9:50lead
  230. 9:51there is another coal patch nearby to
  231. 9:54provide energy
  232. 9:56I make sure to move all Ash back to the
  233. 9:59base similar to Tim this melting happens
  234. 10:02near the center for easier upgrading and
  235. 10:05I will build a Baja of lead plates to
  236. 10:08produce more rails later
  237. 10:10ideally I never need to return to my
  238. 10:14lead mining Outpost
  239. 10:16I start making some set freeze and I
  240. 10:20need more power
  241. 10:21the steam coming from the left is
  242. 10:23feeding the steam engines and excess
  243. 10:25steam goes into my Global steam Network
  244. 10:29at the moment I have enough steam but
  245. 10:32not enough power
  246. 10:34so I add a few extra steam engines
  247. 10:37I select the upgrade option for free
  248. 10:40carbon dioxide using wound drop
  249. 10:42greenhouses
  250. 10:45I'll build this splitter abomination
  251. 10:48to consume the coke from destructive
  252. 10:50distillation with highest priority
  253. 10:53mainly because steel production is
  254. 10:55throttled due to the iron patch slowly
  255. 10:59running out
  256. 11:00the last required metal for simple
  257. 11:02circuit boards is zinc
  258. 11:05I built a pipe for aromatics and a belt
  259. 11:08for fuel and bring back the sink ore and
  260. 11:11Ash by now you know the drill
  261. 11:14I don't intend to come back here
  262. 11:16that's also why I don't add a sinkhole
  263. 11:19after the fluid mining roads I will get
  264. 11:23access to real overflow valves soon and
  265. 11:26if aromatic backs up I can clear the
  266. 11:29system manually this setup produces six
  267. 11:32zip circuit boards per minute enough for
  268. 11:36a good wire
  269. 11:37I should mention that some circuit
  270. 11:40boards were changed a bit in a future
  271. 11:42update on the mark
  272. 11:44so if my word will keep the speed run I
  273. 11:48need to build a bit bigger to compensate
  274. 11:50for that
  275. 11:52I couldn't have done the speed run less
  276. 11:55than six green circuits per minute
  277. 11:58of course I make good use of my simple
  278. 12:00circuit boards and placed split asset
  279. 12:03overhaul valves in strategically
  280. 12:06important places
  281. 12:08I use a little bit of my acetylene to
  282. 12:11mine a trickle of Titanium Ore smelting
  283. 12:15happens somewhere along the way to my
  284. 12:17Mall
  285. 12:18I also need to increase my wood
  286. 12:20production to keep science and sit the
  287. 12:23circuit boards both running at the same
  288. 12:25time
  289. 12:27the mining Pearls at the edge of the
  290. 12:29iron patch have run out of resources
  291. 12:33I have a good amount of Steel plates
  292. 12:35already but I don't want production to
  293. 12:38stop so I replace some iron smudging
  294. 12:41and the copper mining now covers the
  295. 12:44whole starter patch
  296. 12:46some development soon gas plastic and
  297. 12:49concrete later I can make my first rock
  298. 12:53and set up something small to get more
  299. 12:56modules for the real thing later
  300. 12:59I already build up a nice buffer of
  301. 13:03aluminum plates but the releman is still
  302. 13:06heavily constrained by the lack of
  303. 13:09copper plates
  304. 13:11I don't have any other choice when to
  305. 13:14use another copper patch luckily it's
  306. 13:17not in that far away
  307. 13:19I place some chests for ash near the
  308. 13:22center of my base again
  309. 13:24with the copper shortage solved I now
  310. 13:27find the time to build the real
  311. 13:29production of rocks
  312. 13:31still lacks most modules
  313. 13:34I did the slaughtering of rocks to make
  314. 13:37latex but I still don't have nearly
  315. 13:39enough modules
  316. 13:41the relamine is an important material
  317. 13:44for buildings in the future and I'd like
  318. 13:47to wrap up production a bit
  319. 13:49so I expand my aluminum Mining and
  320. 13:52smelting operation
  321. 13:54I finished the build for pi one science
  322. 13:56packs
  323. 13:57I even slaughtered two of my precious
  324. 14:00Rock modules for a milestone below the
  325. 14:0310 hour mark
  326. 14:05the buffer for basic substrate might
  327. 14:07become valuable in the future
  328. 14:10this whole build will make six Pi one
  329. 14:13science packs per minute
  330. 14:15when I can finally start to slot out the
  331. 14:18rocks
  332. 14:19while waiting for rocks in the first
  333. 14:21research I simply increase production of
  334. 14:24selected products
  335. 14:26more aluminum again
  336. 14:28what watts and mold glass More Steam for
  337. 14:32power more steel plates instead of iron
  338. 14:36plates
  339. 14:38finally I have all the rock modules I
  340. 14:40need and can start producing Taiwan
  341. 14:43science packs
  342. 14:45I also start to produce soda from the
  343. 14:49tip of lead I have stockpiled because
  344. 14:52that will be needed for rails soon
  345. 14:55for pi one science pack gives me access
  346. 14:58to better recipes
  347. 15:00for glass or lead and for tin
  348. 15:03I produce hot air for cold looking gas
  349. 15:07there isn't much I can do with the extra
  350. 15:10Coke for now but I want to keep
  351. 15:13everything running
  352. 15:14this is an easy way to get rid of the
  353. 15:17coke
  354. 15:18hot air I can make 50 more glassware
  355. 15:21from the same amount of inputs
  356. 15:24this improves my pipe one science
  357. 15:26production nine per minute while running
  358. 15:29on the buffer is basic substrate
  359. 15:32it's time for a journey
  360. 15:35to some place or away
  361. 15:38each resource of geothermal water
  362. 15:40provides me with 60 megawatts of clean
  363. 15:43energy
  364. 15:45I built three of these power plants
  365. 15:48can you remove the extra steam engines
  366. 15:50again
  367. 15:51I adjust the basic substrate production
  368. 15:54to make the nine Pi one science packs
  369. 15:57will come in it
  370. 15:58the increase I got by using hot air
  371. 16:01that puts my forest trees under too much
  372. 16:04pressure so I built one additional
  373. 16:06production cell for it
  374. 16:08and I started producing antimony oxide
  375. 16:12I set up everything I need to make
  376. 16:14dinosaurs
  377. 16:16while waiting a double production of
  378. 16:18automation science packs by using Mark
  379. 16:21II Garner assembly machines and faster
  380. 16:24inserters science production is a bit
  381. 16:27unbalanced right now with 9 Taiwan and
  382. 16:3124 automation science packs per minute
  383. 16:34but I will need a bunch of automation
  384. 16:37science packs to make some of the
  385. 16:39creatures and plants
  386. 16:41the two dinosaurs are busy making an
  387. 16:44excellent War
  388. 16:45they can use slightly more meat and cuts
  389. 16:48than I produce
  390. 16:50nickel is lost resource needed for
  391. 16:53intermetallics I make syngas on site
  392. 16:56because the other gasifier in the middle
  393. 17:00of my base is dedicated to plastic
  394. 17:02production
  395. 17:03and because there is a pretty aluminum
  396. 17:06patch nearby that could use the cold gas
  397. 17:09later
  398. 17:10I abandoned the rest of my copper
  399. 17:13starter patch because there is no other
  400. 17:15convenient place about large Mariners
  401. 17:19I put vitrioloid the special alloy and
  402. 17:22endometallics into chassis
  403. 17:25slow but steady production
  404. 17:28now I could start building the rail
  405. 17:30network but I don't waste time on that
  406. 17:33right now and just put exhibit a on
  407. 17:37display next to my mod
  408. 17:39and of course I craft a better armor
  409. 17:42with more additional inventory slots
  410. 17:45I upgrade my solar production to Mark II
  411. 17:49to churn to the buffer of plates I have
  412. 17:52accumulated so far
  413. 17:54and I built a fairly sized rail
  414. 17:57production facility
  415. 17:59the factory demands more iron plates
  416. 18:02this is also the first place where I use
  417. 18:04burners to get rid of the ash
  418. 18:07and I bring both Stone and stone bricks
  419. 18:10on a second belt
  420. 18:13I make sure that these by-products are
  421. 18:15used with higher priority on the stone
  422. 18:18mining operation
  423. 18:20I'm not voiding any overflow Stone
  424. 18:23because I first want to see how
  425. 18:26consumption and production develops
  426. 18:28the belt itself is a huge buffer both
  427. 18:32for stone and for iron plates
  428. 18:35I double latex production to make rubber
  429. 18:39I have to put titanium into a chest and
  430. 18:42pick up the rubber from here
  431. 18:45I don't want to add further long valves
  432. 18:47because I plan to build my first train
  433. 18:50soon
  434. 18:51spoiler titanium and rubber are still
  435. 18:54not automated after 25 hours and a belt
  436. 18:58would have to involved the effort I have
  437. 19:02a few smaller bottlenecks in my factory
  438. 19:04but I want to have cdna going as soon as
  439. 19:07possible
  440. 19:09I know that genetic engineering of alien
  441. 19:12life will take a long time
  442. 19:15this cdna setup is 100 hand fed from
  443. 19:20chests but there is enough space next to
  444. 19:23it
  445. 19:24at train stations later
  446. 19:26also I need to make Boron trioxide for
  447. 19:30the optical sets
  448. 19:32I'm able to make my first orgs and set
  449. 19:35up manure production
  450. 19:38bacteria because I don't want huge
  451. 19:41amount of that being buffered in Long
  452. 19:43pipes
  453. 19:45I automate Fish Production
  454. 19:47somehow I managed to squeeze it in next
  455. 19:50to the tins melting
  456. 19:52the lamps are not automated yet
  457. 19:55I won't need a huge amount of fish and
  458. 19:57fish eggs
  459. 19:59I also got enough cdna to start the
  460. 20:02ralisia loop
  461. 20:04with more coke open gas I can make more
  462. 20:07hot air and I can make good use of the
  463. 20:10coke oven gas by building some oil
  464. 20:12burners this produces a considerable
  465. 20:15amount of power
  466. 20:17first Ash chests started to fill up so I
  467. 20:21add some voiding capacity
  468. 20:24the factory demands more copper plates
  469. 20:27so I upgrade to the better recipe
  470. 20:30converting two bottles of copper ore
  471. 20:32into more than enough copper plates and
  472. 20:35a trickle of landfill
  473. 20:38the aluminum patch slowly vanished so I
  474. 20:42add the mining capacity that was lost
  475. 20:45I set up urea production and built my
  476. 20:48first rail station
  477. 20:50I set up production of cotton gut studs
  478. 20:54this is just needed for the modules so
  479. 20:57it's not fully automated
  480. 20:59unfortunately that's a lot of buildings
  481. 21:02for something temporary
  482. 21:04I make batteries right next to where I
  483. 21:07have most of the ingredients already
  484. 21:10except the urea that I bring by train
  485. 21:14while I wait on Cotton gut studs to pick
  486. 21:16up momentum I try to put Band-Aids on my
  487. 21:20bottlenecks
  488. 21:21another wood production cell
  489. 21:24and more titanium plates using upgraded
  490. 21:27recipes
  491. 21:28and I need to make some asphalt
  492. 21:32I build all the plants that are required
  493. 21:35for Logistics science packs
  494. 21:37Moss Moon drop and rulesia
  495. 21:41quickly followed by the required animals
  496. 21:44cotton guts and Orcs
  497. 21:47and I start to set up Logistics science
  498. 21:49itself
  499. 21:51the solidified sakorous is closed
  500. 21:54I finished the build a logistics science
  501. 21:57packs
  502. 21:58this build makes a logistics science
  503. 22:00effects come in it that is a perfect fit
  504. 22:03for the 24 automation science I'm
  505. 22:06producing
  506. 22:07unfortunately high water science
  507. 22:10production can't keep up at the moment
  508. 22:14and I still need to automate delivery
  509. 22:16batteries and the ingredients to make
  510. 22:19plasmids
  511. 22:21I need to increase production of molten
  512. 22:23glass and acetylene which I use almost
  513. 22:26exclusively as liquid fuel
  514. 22:29I make personal rubber parts and the
  515. 22:32first batch of construction boards
  516. 22:34I put iron and copper plates onto the
  517. 22:37train Network
  518. 22:39what I left out was just as important
  519. 22:41for the speed run
  520. 22:43no wind power no sorting of Ash
  521. 22:47no warehouses full of intermediates and
  522. 22:51no processing of kerogene
  523. 22:53no real Mall
  524. 22:55and because Pi one science packs were my
  525. 22:58bottleneck I still miss many of the
  526. 23:01optional Technologies
  527. 23:04that's it so far I'm pretty happy with
  528. 23:07my current face and need to plan my next
  529. 23:10steps
  530. 23:11there is so much to do I need to put
  531. 23:14more products onto the train Network to
  532. 23:17have science production fully automated
  533. 23:20simple circuit boards batteries locks
  534. 23:24titanium plates rubber templates and
  535. 23:27Boron free oxide
  536. 23:29I need to automatically fuel my trains I
  537. 23:33need to scale up everything that is
  538. 23:35required to expand further
  539. 23:38and of course on top of that I need to
  540. 23:41make progress
  541. 23:43myobium would be nice
  542. 23:46for longer underground pipes
  543. 23:48big electric poles and a bot Mall
  544. 23:53all the upgraded or processing would
  545. 23:56increase production quite a bit
  546. 24:00and last but not least I need to set up
  547. 24:03a bunch of alien plants and animals to
  548. 24:06make Pi 2 science packs
  549. 24:08I hope you enjoyed the base tour thanks
  550. 24:11for watching
