Master the 12 Universal Laws That GOVERN Our Lives — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00They're ancient principles, sometimes
- 0:01called the sacred laws of the universe,
- 0:03that describe how reality works. They've
- 0:05been passed down through spiritual and
- 0:07esoteric traditions for thousands of
- 0:09years, but most of us were never taught
- 0:10them in school. And when you understand
- 0:12them, you start to see your life
- 0:14differently. You see why certain
- 0:15patterns keep repeating. You see why
- 0:17your inner state matters, [music] and
- 0:19why even the circumstances that seem
- 0:21permanent can change. And more than
- 0:23that, you can begin to work with these
- 0:25laws. You can become more intentional
- 0:27about your thoughts, your emotions, and
- 0:28your actions, and start to consciously
- 0:30shape the reality you're living. In this
- 0:32episode, I'm going to explain all 12
- 0:33laws in 16 minutes. And by the end,
- 0:36you'll have a new way to understand
- 0:38what's happening in your life, and a
- 0:39practical way to begin creating what
- 0:41happens next. [music]
- 0:42So, let's get into it.
- 0:47All right, guys. Let's start with the
- 0:48one law that connects them all. That is
- 0:50the law of divine oneness. So, the law
- 0:53of divine oneness is the idea that
- 0:55everything is connected, and that the
- 0:57entire material world is actually a
- 0:59projection and a reflection of one alive
- 1:03consciousness. You can sort of think of
- 1:04reality as a single superorganism. Some
- 1:07people may call it the one, or the all
- 1:10that is, or the universe, or God, or
- 1:11Allah. The law says that whatever your
- 1:13individual actions are, they affect the
- 1:15larger whole. And that each and every
- 1:17one of us is an individual expression of
- 1:20the one consciousness, but we're all
- 1:21part of the same whole. So, when you
- 1:23begin to understand that, it invites you
- 1:25to start questioning and evaluating your
- 1:27behavior towards others, because
- 1:29effectively, your behavior towards
- 1:30others is the way you treat yourself.
- 1:33So, when you do something loving for
- 1:34someone else, you're actually doing
- 1:35something loving for yourself. When you
- 1:37give to someone else, you're actually
- 1:38giving to yourself. And when you do harm
- 1:41to someone else, you're harming
- 1:42yourself. So, the law of divine oneness
- 1:45invites us to consider, how are we
- 1:46treating other people? Perhaps its
- 1:48simplest expression is in the golden
- 1:50rule, do unto others as you would have
- 1:52them do unto you. Number two is the law
- 1:54of vibration. So, the law of vibration
- 1:56articulates that everything is energy,
- 1:58and that's true. As we examine the
- 2:00physical world more and more closely,
- 2:02and we start looking from what appears
- 2:04to be solids to molecules to atoms to
- 2:06electrons, and then deeper still, what
- 2:08we find is a kind of non-physicality.
- 2:10It's an energy or a potential or a
- 2:12frequency or a vibration that sits at
- 2:14the bottom of it all. So, why is this
- 2:16important? Because when we understand
- 2:18that everything has a frequency, and
- 2:20that our thoughts and emotions also have
- 2:21a frequency, we can begin to understand
- 2:24that our thoughts and emotions shape and
- 2:25architect our reality. It also invites
- 2:27us to consider what is my frequency.
- 2:30Your frequency is best understood as
- 2:32your consistent habit of thought and
- 2:33habit of emotion. So, what emotional
- 2:35state do you generally inhabit? Are you
- 2:37a happy person? Are you a worried
- 2:39person? Do you lean towards being an
- 2:41angry person? David Hawkins, one of the
- 2:43great spiritual teachers of the 20th
- 2:45century, arranged these frequencies on a
- 2:47scale that he wrote about in his book
- 2:48Power versus Force, and part of the
- 2:50evolution of your consciousness is your
- 2:52ability to begin inhabiting higher and
- 2:54higher emotional states. And as you do
- 2:56that, you raise your vibration, and as
- 2:58you raise your vibration, you create a
- 3:00more productive reality. And that takes
- 3:02us to law number three, the law of
- 3:04attraction. So, law of attraction was
- 3:06made really popular by the book, and
- 3:08later the movie, The Secret. But this is
- 3:11an ancient esoteric principle that's
- 3:12been around for thousands of years. And
- 3:14the law of attraction builds off the law
- 3:16of vibration. So, it says that whatever
- 3:19frequency you're operating from, you
- 3:21will attract circumstances and
- 3:23situations that match that frequency.
- 3:25So, if you're consistently living in
- 3:26gratitude and prosperity and abundance,
- 3:29through the law of attraction, you'll
- 3:30create circumstances and situations that
- 3:33reflect that gratitude and abundance
- 3:34back to you. If you're consistently
- 3:36living in a frequency of, say,
- 3:37frustration, you'll manufacture and
- 3:40organize circumstances that will
- 3:42frustrate you. So, law of attraction
- 3:44says that what you consistently put out
- 3:46there, you'll get back. What you focus
- 3:48on or bring your attention to, you'll
- 3:49create more of. And the good news is is
- 3:52that if you shift your focus, you shift
- 3:54your perception and as you shift your
- 3:56perception, you shift how you feel and
- 3:58as you shift how you feel, you can
- 3:59literally transform your reality.
- 4:02Law number four is the law of
- 4:03correspondence. The law of
- 4:05correspondence is best described by the
- 4:07ancient Hermetic principle as above, so
- 4:10below. And so it builds on the law of
- 4:12attraction and it says that your
- 4:13external reality is a mirror of your
- 4:15internal state or your internal
- 4:17consciousness. So this has also been
- 4:19called the mirror principle and you can
- 4:21begin to know what you believe by
- 4:23looking at what you've crystallized or
- 4:25manifested across different areas of
- 4:27your life from your business to your
- 4:29career to your relationships to your
- 4:30health, what patterns do you see? And
- 4:33what might those patterns be reflecting
- 4:35back to you about what's happening
- 4:36inside of you? So the law of
- 4:38correspondence says that if you want to
- 4:40transform your external reality, you
- 4:41have to shift something inside. And this
- 4:43is very much in alignment with Jesus'
- 4:45teaching, be not conformed to this world
- 4:47but be transformed by the renewing of
- 4:49your mind. So as you shift something
- 4:51internally, life begins to organize
- 4:53externally to match that internal shift.
- 4:56This is the law of correspondence.
- 4:59Number five is the law of inspired
- 5:00action. So the law of inspired action is
- 5:02important because a lot of people who
- 5:05get into personal growth or metaphysics
- 5:07or law of attraction mistakenly think
- 5:09that they can just sit on their sofa
- 5:10eating cheesy poofs and watching Netflix
- 5:12and manifest a million dollars into
- 5:13their bank account and that's not the
- 5:15way that it works. So this is why
- 5:18scripture says faith without works is
- 5:21dead and the idea is that you have to
- 5:24believe and intend
- 5:26and you have to take action. Now, I
- 5:28don't want you to confuse that with
- 5:29having to hustle and grind your way to
- 5:31success, but the invitation is to
- 5:33recognize that action is required to
- 5:35allow creation to work through us. So we
- 5:38have the capacity to attract thoughts
- 5:40and ideas, but ultimately, we are the
- 5:42vehicle through which those ideas become
- 5:44manifest in reality and they become
- 5:47manifest through the consistent daily
- 5:49actions that we take. And when we're
- 5:51aligned, we can take action from an
- 5:53inspired place. And from there, we're
- 5:55even more likely to produce
- 5:56extraordinary results. But it is
- 5:57essential to act on opportunities, to
- 6:00follow through on inspiration, and to do
- 6:02something meaningful with the ideas that
- 6:04we receive.
- 6:06Law number six is the law of perpetual
- 6:08transmutation of energy. Now, I know
- 6:10that sounds like a word salad, but the
- 6:12law of perpetual transmutation of energy
- 6:15says that energy is always transforming
- 6:18and changing shape. So, this is helpful
- 6:20to understand because
- 6:22we all experience circumstances that we
- 6:25would view as problems. But when we
- 6:28realize that everything is energy and
- 6:29energy is always changing form, we can
- 6:31also realize something really important,
- 6:33which is the problems that show up in
- 6:35our lives are problems that come to
- 6:37pass, not to stay. So, I want you to
- 6:40just look back on your own life.
- 6:43The truth is that every challenge you've
- 6:45ever experienced has transformed at some
- 6:47point in time into something that we
- 6:49would call a solution. And a lot of
- 6:51times that happened without nearly as
- 6:53much involvement from you as you thought
- 6:54it would require. So, this understanding
- 6:56invites us to navigate through life
- 6:59unattached to the material world exactly
- 7:02as it's showing up in the present moment
- 7:03because change is a part of its nature.
- 7:06And it also invites us to be unattached
- 7:08to the things that we have or enjoy or
- 7:10desire because those things are going to
- 7:12change, too.
- 7:14The Buddha taught that much comes from
- 7:15attachment, from wanting a fixed reality
- 7:18when reality is not intended to be
- 7:19fixed. And the law of perpetual
- 7:21transmutation invites us into the
- 7:23practice of non-attachment, knowing that
- 7:25life is always changing form. Law number
- 7:28seven is the law of cause and effect,
- 7:29also known as the law of karma. So,
- 7:32every action, including every thought
- 7:34that we think, has a consequence.
- 7:36And what you do creates effects, whether
- 7:39immediately or over time. And this law
- 7:41encourages us to take personal
- 7:43responsibility, to become conscious of
- 7:45our intentions, and to recognize that
- 7:47whatever deposits we make into reality,
- 7:49we will receive as withdrawals later on.
- 7:52So, you can't do harm in the world
- 7:53without that harm coming back to you.
- 7:55And you can't do good in the world
- 7:57without that good coming back to you.
- 7:58It's also a reminder when we witness
- 8:00other people's actions, and we worry
- 8:03that they're getting away with
- 8:04something. You know, we live in a world
- 8:06where there can appear to be tremendous
- 8:07corruption and wrongdoing, but the law
- 8:09of cause and effect allows us to trust
- 8:11that we don't have to personally
- 8:13intervene to make every wrong right or
- 8:15make the whole world just. The law of
- 8:18cause and effect, or the law of karma,
- 8:20will handle that.
- 8:22Our responsibility is to pay attention
- 8:24to the intentions and actions we are
- 8:25putting into the world. Law number eight
- 8:28is the law of compensation. The law of
- 8:30compensation says that what you
- 8:32contribute will return to you in some
- 8:34form. And it speaks to the scriptural
- 8:36idea that you reap what you sow. And
- 8:38oftentimes, we expect to get something
- 8:41directly in return for something that we
- 8:43do. And when we don't receive it, we
- 8:45become upset. Uh, you know, I did this
- 8:48for you, so therefore you owe me this
- 8:49thing.
- 8:50But the law of compensation is actually
- 8:52non-linear. So, you can do good for one
- 8:55person, and the good may not come back
- 8:56from that person. It may come back, and
- 8:58it will come back from an entirely
- 9:00different source. And that's what makes
- 9:02this such a beautiful principle because
- 9:03it allows us to give without holding
- 9:06back and without expectation. So, we
- 9:09don't have to keep score with the person
- 9:10in front of us. We can trust that
- 9:12through the law of compensation, what
- 9:14we've given will at some point return to
- 9:16us. And usually as a multiple of what we
- 9:19gave, though we may not know where or
- 9:21when it will arrive. Law number nine is
- 9:24the law of relativity.
- 9:25The law of relativity says that our
- 9:27experiences gain meaning through
- 9:29comparison and perspective. So, what
- 9:33looks good or bad can look very
- 9:35different depending on the perspective
- 9:36from which you view it. And this reminds
- 9:38me of the parable of the wise farmer and
- 9:39the ignorant neighbor. So a series of
- 9:41things happens to the farmer and the
- 9:43neighbor keeps judging each event as
- 9:44either good or bad, but the wise
- 9:46farmer's response is always the same.
- 9:48Essentially, who knows what's good or
- 9:50bad. So something happens and we
- 9:53immediately decide this is terrible. And
- 9:55then more of the story unfolds and what
- 9:57we called terrible becomes the path to
- 9:59something we're grateful for. So we need
- 10:02the dark in order to understand the
- 10:04light. experiences we don't desire in
- 10:07order to recognize and appreciate the
- 10:08ones that we do. And when we realize
- 10:11that our judgments depend on
- 10:12perspective, we may find a place of
- 10:14non-judgment and non-criticism. Like we
- 10:16can acknowledge what we're experiencing
- 10:18while remembering that there may be
- 10:20multiple ways to view it and that we may
- 10:22not yet see the whole picture.
- 10:24Law number 10 is the law of polarity. So
- 10:26law of polarity is related to the law of
- 10:28relativity. It speaks to the positive
- 10:31and the negative, the hot and the cold,
- 10:33the light and the dark. The law says
- 10:35that these are different degrees of the
- 10:37same thing. So hot and cold for example
- 10:40are different degrees of temperature. We
- 10:42can also think about love and hate as
- 10:44occupying opposite extremes of the same
- 10:47spectrum. What the law of polarity
- 10:49affords us is a broader perspective
- 10:51because instead of immediately
- 10:52condemning one pole and clinging to the
- 10:55other, we can recognize that opposites
- 10:57are part of a whole. So contrast is part
- 11:00of what allows us to have a full
- 11:01experience of reality. And this
- 11:03understanding can help us live with less
- 11:05judgment and criticism and in a more
- 11:07frequent state of forgiveness. That
- 11:09doesn't mean we have to prefer every
- 11:10experience that we have. It means we can
- 11:13recognize that the opposites we
- 11:14encounter are part of the larger whole.
- 11:17Law number 11 is the law of rhythm.
- 11:20The law of rhythm helps us understand
- 11:22that life moves through cycles and that
- 11:24those cycles are normal. Growth and
- 11:26decline, activity and rest, gains and
- 11:29losses. It's related to the law of
- 11:32perpetual transmutation of energy, but
- 11:33it gives us a specific way to understand
- 11:36change. Nothing remains at one extreme
- 11:39indefinitely. And I don't know about
- 11:41you, but this is a really helpful
- 11:42reminder. It's helpful when you're in a
- 11:44circumstance that you don't like. Maybe
- 11:47your business is in a contraction, maybe
- 11:49you're in a season of financial
- 11:50insecurity, maybe you're experiencing
- 11:52chronic pain, but the law of rhythm
- 11:54reminds us that this too shall pass. We
- 11:57live in seasons. Sometimes it's a season
- 12:00of harvest, sometimes it's a season of
- 12:02letting go of what no longer serves us.
- 12:04And when you understand that, you can
- 12:05experience the season that you're in
- 12:07from a place of less resistance and less
- 12:08attachment. You can still do what's
- 12:10yours to do, but you may also find peace
- 12:13and calm regardless of what's happening
- 12:15in your external reality knowing that
- 12:17the season will change. Law number 12 is
- 12:19the law of gender. So, the law of gender
- 12:22is traditionally described as masculine
- 12:23and feminine energies existing within
- 12:26creation. And I'm not necessarily
- 12:27talking about biological sex. I'm
- 12:29talking about qualities that exist
- 12:31within the whole of life. There's
- 12:33contraction and expansion. There's the
- 12:35structure required to live fully, and
- 12:37there's also the freedom and flexibility
- 12:40required to feel fully. And you can see
- 12:42this as you look at the natural world.
- 12:44Like we find masculine and feminine
- 12:46principles. We find things that govern
- 12:49nature. For example, spontaneity of a
- 12:52hurricane or a sunset or the smell of a
- 12:54flower, but then patterns and structures
- 12:57of how we see laws functioning in the
- 12:59natural world. So, we get to experience
- 13:02both. Both components are necessary for
- 13:04a full lived experience. Sometimes
- 13:06there's action, sometimes there's
- 13:08receptivity or rest, sometimes there's
- 13:11giving, sometimes there's receiving. And
- 13:14traditional society tends to
- 13:15compartmentalize these qualities as man
- 13:17and woman, but they express themselves
- 13:19universally as two complementary
- 13:21qualities required for the entire whole
- 13:24to function.
- 13:25So, those are the 12 laws. And when you
- 13:27hear them together, you begin to see how
- 13:29they relate. Like the law of divine
- 13:31oneness reminds you that you're
- 13:32connected to everything. Vibration and
- 13:34attraction ask you to become conscious
- 13:37of the thoughts and the emotions that
- 13:38you habitually live in. Correspondence
- 13:41asks what your outer world may be
- 13:43reflecting about your inner world.
- 13:45Inspired action reminds us that we are
- 13:47an instrument of creation, but we have
- 13:49to do the work. And when circumstances
- 13:51change, as they inevitably will,
- 13:53transmutation and rhythm invite us to
- 13:55meet that change without becoming
- 13:56attached to one fixed version of
- 13:59reality. Cause and effect and
- 14:01compensation ask us to take
- 14:03responsibility for what we put into the
- 14:04world and to give without keeping score.
- 14:07Relativity and polarity remind us that
- 14:10there may be more to an experience than
- 14:12just our first judgment of it. And
- 14:13lastly, gender invites us to recognize
- 14:16when life calls for action and when it
- 14:18calls for receptivity. So, here's what I
- 14:20invite you to do. Notice which of these
- 14:22laws speaks to something you're
- 14:24experiencing right now. And then ask
- 14:26yourself, if I truly understood and
- 14:28lived in alignment with this principle,
- 14:31what would change about the way I think,
- 14:33feel, or act today? That's where these
- 14:35laws stop being ideas and they start
- 14:37becoming a way of living. So, I hope you
- 14:39enjoyed this episode as much as I love
- 14:41sharing it with you. I only ask two
