3. 0:09question how do you tempt someone who is
4. 0:13genuinely wanting to do the right
5. 0:17thing well you don't tempt a good person
6. 0:21with the obvious
7. 0:23evil no good person would deliberately
8. 0:26choose something that they know is
9. 0:28wicked
10. 0:30instead you tempt a good person with
11. 0:34something good but
12. 0:37Twisted the greatest danger to our souls
13. 0:40don't come from outright
14. 0:44evil the greatest dangers to our souls
15. 0:46are from the elevation of a lesser good
16. 0:51a lesser good above God the highest
17. 0:55good that's that's exactly how Satan
18. 0:59tempted Jesus Jesus in the de in the
19. 1:02desert not with evil but with good
20. 1:06things distorted just enough to turn to
21. 1:10try to turn his heart away from the
22. 1:13father I want to walk through these
23. 1:17Temptations but as we do don't just
24. 1:20listen to them as this was a distant
25. 1:23memory in
26. 1:25history ask yourself how is the enemy
27. 1:29using the these same tricks in my life
28. 1:33today so the first temptation is bread
29. 1:36before
30. 1:38God if you are the Son of God command
31. 1:41these stones to become bread he
32. 1:45says bread is
33. 1:47good bread is very good and if you have
34. 1:50bread with a little ceso is very good
35. 1:54food is
36. 1:55good we need food to
37. 1:58live Jesus had been fasting for 40 days
38. 2:01he was
39. 2:02starving but the devil wasn't just
40. 2:05tempting him with
41. 2:07food the deeper Temptation was to place
42. 2:10physical needs above spiritual
43. 2:13ones to live as though satisfying our
44. 2:16Cravings our hunger our hunger our
45. 2:19longings our Comforts our desires was
46. 2:21more important than seeking
47. 2:25God Jesus responds man does not live on
48. 2:29bread alone
49. 2:30but on every word that comes from the
50. 2:32mouth of
51. 2:34God how many times do we let our hunger
52. 2:37for pleasure for comfort for
53. 2:40convenience push aside
54. 2:43God how often do we say I don't really
55. 2:47have time to pray today I'm I'm very
56. 2:49busy I I'll pray later maybe tomorrow
57. 2:52I'll go to mass next Sunday I don't have
58. 2:54to go to mass this Sunday I've been for
59. 2:56for a long time now it's just one week
60. 2:58what's going to hurt or or maybe we've
61. 3:00said I don't know if I should fast I
62. 3:03don't really know how to do it I don't
63. 3:04know if it's important what's the point
64. 3:06of it all but does it really
65. 3:08matter the church gives us fasting and
66. 3:12fasting from things not to be
67. 3:16cruel but to remind us that we do not
68. 3:19live on bread
69. 3:21alone we fast to say Lord are you my
70. 3:25true
71. 3:26hunger are you my first love
72. 3:30that's why we
73. 3:33fast the second Temptation power before
74. 3:37worship the devil then shows Jesus all
75. 3:40the kingdoms of the world and says to
76. 3:42him I will give you all this power and
77. 3:44Glory if you worship me
78. 3:49power influence
79. 3:52control
80. 3:54Prestige these are not bad
81. 3:57things in fact if they're used rightly
82. 4:00they can accomplish incredible
83. 4:03good but the devil's trap is to make us
84. 4:06want these things more than we want
85. 4:09God Satan was offering Jesus an easy
86. 4:13path no cross no suffering just bow to
87. 4:17me once and I can give you all this
88. 4:20power in the
89. 4:22world how many times do we fall in this
90. 4:27temptation we Chase success
91. 4:30and let it Define our
92. 4:34worth we seek control over our lives and
93. 4:37forget to trust God's
94. 4:40plan we put careers Ambitions and
95. 4:43influence ahead of our prayer life and
96. 4:45ahead of our
97. 4:48families but what does Jesus
98. 4:50respond he says you shall Worship the
99. 4:53Lord your God and him alone shall you
100. 4:57serve who do we serve really
101. 5:00is God just one among many things in our
102. 5:04Lives who do really who is really on the
103. 5:07throne of our
104. 5:09hearts lent is that time to examine
105. 5:12whether we have let ambition Pride our
106. 5:17egos the worry of the world take
107. 5:22control and then take take it in God's
108. 5:27place it's time to re Center
109. 5:31ourselves so I want to give you a theme
110. 5:33for this Lent and the theme for this
111. 5:35Lent is God first
112. 5:38always God first
113. 5:42always the third
114. 5:44Temptation Prestige over OB before
115. 5:49obedience finally the devil tells Jesus
116. 5:51to throw himself from the parapet of the
117. 5:53temple the highest part of the temple
118. 5:56forcing God's angels to come and rescue
119. 5:58him
120. 6:00what's a
121. 6:02temptation to make a spectacle of
122. 6:04himself to demand a sign to make people
123. 6:08admire him oh he is the Son of God oh
124. 6:11look what God has done has saved him he
125. 6:14is
126. 6:16important his power rather than for who
127. 6:19he truly
128. 6:20is how often do We crave at ad um
129. 6:25admiration from
130. 6:27others we want to be seen as
131. 6:30successful
132. 6:32important
133. 6:35respected how often and most times we
134. 6:38seek validation from social media times
135. 6:41even being brodacious braggadocious at
136. 6:45times to our even to our friends or to
137. 6:49co-workers we prior prioritize what
138. 6:52others think of us over what God thinks
139. 6:56of
140. 6:57us but Jesus ref refuses he says you
141. 7:01shall not put the Lord your God to the
142. 7:05test he knew his mission was not about
143. 7:08self- Glory it was about obedience to
144. 7:11the
145. 7:13father because you see the devil's
146. 7:15tactics have not
147. 7:17changed Satan does not have new tricks
148. 7:20he doesn't have a new book of
149. 7:23Tricks the same three Temptations faced
150. 7:26are the same he uses on us every single
151. 7:31day one pleasure before God you got to
152. 7:35have pleasure before God letting our
153. 7:37Cravings our hungers our our Comforts
154. 7:40come before
155. 7:41God to power before worship putting
156. 7:45success control the world ambition ahead
157. 7:49of
158. 7:50God third Prestige over obedience
159. 7:53worrying more about what others think
160. 7:55impressing
161. 7:57others before worrying about what God
162. 8:00thinks of
163. 8:02us because you see the devil is real and
164. 8:05his greatest accomplishment is to fool
165. 8:07you in thinking that he doesn't exist
166. 8:09the devil is real and he hates the
167. 8:11church and he hates priests and he hates
168. 8:15you and he will use whatever good he can
169. 8:19to twist it to corrupt it to pull you
170. 8:23away from
171. 8:25Christ so what do we
172. 8:28do well we must
173. 8:30choose this is something that I've been
174. 8:32talking about the last two Sundays in my
175. 8:35homes you need to choose you need to be
176. 8:38intentional you need to wake up every
177. 8:40single morning and say I Choose You
178. 8:44Christ every single day we must decide
179. 8:47will I follow Christ or will I follow
180. 8:49the world and fall into these
181. 8:53Temptations I love this quote from St
182. 8:55Pope John Paul II this is what he
183. 8:58said you must
184. 9:01choose you the present generation must
185. 9:04decide your choice choice must be clear
186. 9:07your decision must be firm you are
187. 9:10living Again The Temptations of Christ
188. 9:13you are being asked to prefer to the
189. 9:16kingdoms of the world to the kingdom of
190. 9:18God now is the time of testing this
191. 9:22generation is once more a generation of
192. 9:26decision we need to be intentional
193. 9:28disciples
194. 9:30because this is our time of
195. 9:33testing lent is the season where we
196. 9:36reclaim our identity where we do the
197. 9:39hard work it's the time to reject every
198. 9:42disordered attraction every disordered
199. 9:45affection to say no to the prince of
200. 9:48this world and to say yes to the king of
201. 9:51to the only King worth following and
202. 9:53that's Jesus
203. 9:55Christ so my brothers and sisters on
204. 9:58this first Sunday as we
205. 10:01set lent in
206. 10:03motion let us fast to remind ourselves
207. 10:07that God Alone
208. 10:09satisfies let us pray fervently to
209. 10:12strengthen our hearts for the
210. 10:14battle let us give generously so that
211. 10:18love not power or Prestige defines who
212. 10:22we are and how we
213. 10:26live and let us meditate this month or
214. 10:30this time these 40 days on our theme God
215. 10:34always
216. 10:36first and let this holy season renew our
217. 10:40decision nothing comes before God Amen
