  2. 0:02brought into the prison after checking
  3. 0:04in through the metal detectors
  4. 0:06everything else and in walk walks this
  5. 0:08gray-haired gentleman who looks nothing
  6. 0:12like uh his former
  7. 0:14photographs he doesn't wear $2,000 suits
  8. 0:17anymore he's now in a in a khaki tan
  9. 0:20prison uniform he doesn't wear $2,000
  10. 0:24Italian shoes anymore he now wears a
  11. 0:26pair of uh running shoes he certainly
  12. 0:29doesn't have the amenities of his luxury
  13. 0:31apartments or homes all over the world
  14. 0:34he's in a cell with another uh person he
  15. 0:37um he works in the what I want to call
  16. 0:42the name plate shop or the sign shop he
  17. 0:45works from 8:30 9:00 in the morning
  18. 0:48until uh midafternoon he then rests for
  19. 0:52a while remember he's 71 years old and I
  20. 0:54asked him what he did for exercise and
  21. 0:56he told me he walks around the uh track
  22. 1:00several times he had
  23. 1:01exercise he confided in me that uh he
  24. 1:04has high blood pressure his ankles are
  25. 1:08swollen uh he looked
  26. 1:10gaunt kind of
  27. 1:12drawn uh realizing of course that he
  28. 1:14knows the rest of his life has spent in
  29. 1:16this prison he was very uh
  30. 1:19polite very calm but he still had I
  31. 1:23believe in talking to him for four and a
  32. 1:26half hours a Cockiness or an arrogance
  33. 1:29about about him he was very candid in
  34. 1:33the sense that he gave me a lot of
  35. 1:37facts I now have to verify the facts he
  36. 1:40told me because what we're looking for
  37. 1:43are those people that either assisted
  38. 1:45him or should have stopped him in his
  39. 1:49tracks uh years ago based upon what he
  40. 1:52told us that starting in about 2000 he
  41. 1:55knew to use the old phrase the gig was
  42. 1:58up
  43. 2:00he knew well first of all he stopped
  44. 2:02trading he admitted to me in 1995
  45. 2:05somewhere in there mid
  46. 2:0790s he knew when he stopped trading it
  47. 2:10was only a question a function of math
  48. 2:13how much he could he take in and how
  49. 2:15much could he pay out it was a classic
  50. 2:17Ponzi scheme it is absolutely clear to
  51. 2:20me after four and four and a half hours
  52. 2:22with Bernie made off that we had a total
  53. 2:26failure and a total breakdown of the
  54. 2:29regulat process at the very end said to
  55. 2:33him
  56. 2:34Bernie what is it you'd like to
  57. 2:36communicate to all of the victims we
  58. 2:39represent he thought for a moment leaned
  59. 2:42forward and said I'm
  60. 2:45sorry as if that word meant anything to
  61. 2:49those
  62. 2:50victims I looked at him and I thought it
  63. 2:52was very
  64. 2:53shallow and I don't think he really uh
  65. 2:57has thought about the victims at all
