- 0:03What's up, family? Welcome to the
- 0:04Blueprint Bible study. Incredibly
- 0:06excited about our time together. And I
- 0:09say that each week because I am. I'm
- 0:12excited to learn more about God's word.
- 0:16I'm excited about the change that takes
- 0:19place in my life when I live God's word.
- 0:22And I love the opportunity to lift up
- 0:25God's word to my fellow brothers and
- 0:27sisters in the faith or those who may
- 0:30not even be a part of the faith, but
- 0:32[snorts] you're on your own spiritual
- 0:33journey. And you are seeking. You are
- 0:36seeking not only more of God's presence,
- 0:40but you're seeking and in search of
- 0:42God's principles, God's truth. Man, if
- 0:44you're here, I want to welcome you. My
- 0:45name is Darris Stamps. I'm super excited
- 0:47to have this opportunity to share the
- 0:49word of God with you. We call this the
- 0:51Blueprint because we believe the Bible
- 0:53very clearly is the blueprint to life as
- 0:56God intended. There's a word that is
- 0:58used to describe There's a word in the
- 1:00Bible used to describe life as God
- 1:03intended. That word is found frequently
- 1:05throughout the teachings of Jesus in the
- 1:07New Testament. That word is kingdom.
- 1:09When Jesus says, "The kingdom of God and
- 1:11the kingdom of heaven," and those words
- 1:13are used very often interchangeably, "is
- 1:15like is like is like is like." He is
- 1:18saying life When he says, "The kingdom
- 1:20of God is like," hey, this is what life
- 1:21is like when God's in charge.
- 1:25So, kingdom marriage is hey, this is
- 1:26what a marriage is like when God's in
- 1:28charge. A kingdom mindset is like, hey,
- 1:30this is the kind of mindset you have
- 1:32when your mind is governed and guided by
- 1:35the king.
- 1:37If I'm making sense, put it in the chat
- 1:38right now. Make sense? It makes sense.
- 1:41Yep. So, the third way you can live life
- 1:43culture's way, which is the way of the
- 1:45world, church's way, which is the way of
- 1:46religion, or the king's way, which is
- 1:47the way of the rabbi, Jesus. When you
- 1:49live life that way, eventually the
- 1:52result you get is a kingdom life. So, if
- 1:55I live if I manage my marriage third
- 1:58way,
- 1:59if I start third way today, I'm not
- 2:01going to have a kingdom marriage
- 2:01tomorrow.
- 2:03I got to stay on the way long enough
- 2:05until I reap the harvest of the result.
- 2:08And the result, if I do marriage third
- 2:10way,
- 2:11and I stay on that way long enough, if I
- 2:13refuse to be weary in doing good, then
- 2:15eventually what am I going to have? I'm
- 2:16going to have a kingdom marriage.
- 2:18So, this this this Bible study we call
- 2:20the blueprint, we're teaching people the
- 2:21way to life as God intended. I'm
- 2:25starting a series at our church, Change
- 2:27Church, on Sunday
- 2:29that is a series called We Outside, and
- 2:31it's really a series on purpose. I I
- 2:34want to
- 2:36expose some believers
- 2:39to truth that we see in scripture, that
- 2:41there's a contribution that God's called
- 2:43you to make outside the four walls of
- 2:45the church you're part of.
- 2:47Um that we're salt and light
- 2:50in the earth and in the world. Salt of
- 2:52the earth, light of the world.
- 2:55And so, we're going to have some really,
- 2:56really important conversations over the
- 2:58course of this series on how the
- 3:02scriptures are very clear that God has
- 3:03equipped you with spiritual gifts and
- 3:07wants you to display spiritual fruit
- 3:09as a missionary to the space and place
- 3:12and culture that he's called you to.
- 3:14And uh it's going to be an interesting
- 3:15conversation. We're talking about
- 3:17purpose,
- 3:18and we're talking about spiritual gifts
- 3:20and spiritual fruit. And uh it's going
- 3:22to be an interesting conversation. So, I
- 3:23felt like it would be helpful to just
- 3:25lay some foundation for you in this
- 3:27blueprint. And I know many of you who
- 3:29watch Blueprint, you're not part of our
- 3:30church, and that's fine, but I do think
- 3:32if you care about your purpose, this
- 3:33series I'm going to be doing on Sundays
- 3:35is something you should lean into. So,
- 3:37I really want us
- 3:39um to just kind of open up our hearts,
- 3:41cuz I want to lay some foundation
- 3:42tonight for what I'm going to actually
- 3:44start on Sunday. And I want to go to
- 3:46Jeremiah chapter number one, beginning
- 3:47at verse number four, and I want to talk
- 3:50today from this subject called Made want
- 3:53to teach today from this subject called
- 3:55Made for More.
- 3:57Made for more. Before we read, I just
- 4:00feel a prompting to pray here.
- 4:02So, Father, I thank you for your word. I
- 4:05thank you that it is light, that it is
- 4:07illuminating, that it reveals, that it
- 4:10exposes. And I pray, as your word is
- 4:12taught today, that your word is wielded
- 4:15as a weapon against deception, against
- 4:18discouragement, against despair, against
- 4:22any and everything that the enemy is
- 4:24using to inhibit your people from
- 4:27experiencing your best. You said in your
- 4:31word that your word is a lamp unto our
- 4:33feet and a light unto our path. I pray
- 4:36for every confused person, every
- 4:38concerned person, every person that
- 4:42needs divine direction for some
- 4:44decisions that they have to make.
- 4:45Somebody watching me right now doesn't
- 4:48know what to do. And I pray that you
- 4:51give them a prompting, that you give
- 4:53them a word, that you give them a sign
- 4:56[clears throat] to let them know which
- 4:58way to go. Do it now, Jesus. And I pray
- 5:00against
- 5:01any dilemma that would distract people
- 5:04from receiving what you're getting ready
- 5:06to say today. We bind that, and we pray
- 5:08that this prayer would be a shield that
- 5:12pushes back against that in the name of
- 5:15the Lord Jesus. It's in that name we
- 5:16pray.
- 5:17Amen. Somebody drop some fire in the
- 5:19chat if you feel a witness from the Holy
- 5:22Spirit on that prayer.
- 5:25Yes, indeed. He's going to do that.
- 5:29He's going to do that.
- 5:31He's going to answer that prayer.
- 5:32Jeremiah chapter 1, verse 4.
- 5:35The word of the Lord came to me saying,
- 5:38"Before I form you in the womb, I knew
- 5:41you.
- 5:43Before you were born, I set you apart.
- 5:47And I appointed you as a prophet to
- 5:51the nations."
- 5:53Again, I want to tag this title to this
- 5:55text, made
- 5:58for
- 5:59more.
- 6:00I want to start um
- 6:02this time of teaching by articulating
- 6:04something that I repeat regularly.
- 6:06And I don't repeat it regularly because
- 6:08I've got because I forgot I've said it.
- 6:10I repeat it regularly because I think we
- 6:12consistently need to hear it. Your
- 6:14presence on this planet has purpose.
- 6:19Look at me. You're not the consequence
- 6:21of some cosmic coincidence. You're not
- 6:23the result of some relational accident.
- 6:25Your parents may have been surprised by
- 6:26your arrival. God was not.
- 6:28You have been strategically,
- 6:30intentionally placed on this planet for
- 6:32such a time as this. You, sir, you,
- 6:35ma'am, were created intentionally.
- 6:38You've been equipped uniquely, and
- 6:40you've been called to contribute
- 6:42meaningfully. I'mma say that again. You
- 6:45have been created intentionally.
- 6:48You have been equipped uniquely, and you
- 6:52have been called to contribute
- 6:55meaningfully.
- 6:56One more time.
- 6:58You have been created intentionally,
- 7:01equipped uniquely, and called to
- 7:05contribute meaningfully.
- 7:08And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what
- 7:11I believe we see a gentleman named
- 7:14Jeremiah being introduced to in this
- 7:16particular passage. This passage is one
- 7:19of few passages in scripture that give
- 7:22us insight into an individual's calling.
- 7:26Somebody put calling in the chat right
- 7:28now. If you're watching this live, come
- 7:30on, put it in there now. Calling. Uh th-
- 7:33there are very few examples that we see
- 7:35in scripture of a person's calling
- 7:38experience. We see it with Moses with
- 7:42the burning bush. We see it with Gideon
- 7:45when he is threshing wheat in the wine
- 7:47press. We see it with some of the
- 7:49disciples when Jesus extends the
- 7:51invitation to them to follow me and I'll
- 7:54make you a fisher of men. But, we see we
- 7:57see it right here
- 7:59in what what we're going to explore is
- 8:01what we see right here in the book of
- 8:04Jeremiah. Now, this book, Jeremiah,
- 8:08details and exposes us to the prophetic
- 8:11ministry of a gentleman named Jeremiah.
- 8:14Now, Jeremiah is actually the son of a
- 8:17priest, and I don't have time to deal
- 8:19with that, but I want you to see
- 8:20something that people
- 8:23who came from families of priests
- 8:25typically became priests. But, here's
- 8:28what I want you to see. Jeremiah comes
- 8:31from the family of a priest, but he
- 8:33doesn't become a priest. He becomes a
- 8:35prophet. Look at me. This means this
- 8:37teaches us something that your ability
- 8:41to carry out your life's assignment will
- 8:43be tied to your willingness to embrace
- 8:47your own uniqueness.
- 8:49My God,
- 8:51that fulfilling destiny may mean
- 8:53diverting from paths people you love
- 8:57think you should follow.
- 9:01Did you hear what I just said?
- 9:04And there are many people I'm just using
- 9:06this these terms metaphorically, not
- 9:08literally, okay? I'm not saying you're
- 9:10literally supposed to be a prophet, but
- 9:11I'm using this metaphorically to
- 9:13describe uniqueness. There are many
- 9:15people
- 9:16that are trying to fit in the priest box
- 9:19when you've been called to be a prophet.
- 9:22I'm not saying prophet literally. I am
- 9:24saying that God wants to do something in
- 9:27you uniquely. And individuals' ability
- 9:31to carry out their assignment is going
- 9:33to be tied to their willingness to
- 9:35embrace their uniqueness. And we live in
- 9:37a culture where where Well, when I say
- 9:40everyone, you know that I'm you know
- 9:41that I mean that generally, but
- 9:43metaphorically,
- 9:45but we live in a culture
- 9:47where most people
- 9:49say they want to be different, but they
- 9:51fighting for normal.
- 9:54Did you hear what I just [clears throat]
- 9:55said?
- 9:57They say they want to be different, but
- 9:59they fighting for normal.
- 10:02They say they want to be rare, but they
- 10:04fighting for regular.
- 10:08Because operating in your uniqueness is
- 10:10expensive.
- 10:12>> [laughter]
- 10:13>> It's going to cost something.
- 10:16It comes with a price.
- 10:19Watch this.
- 10:21But the result
- 10:24is worth more than the expense.
- 10:28So Jeremiah is Jeremiah is the son
- 10:32of a priest.
- 10:34Comes from a town in the territory of
- 10:35Benjamin.
- 10:37But he embraces his ministry
- 10:39as a prophet.
- 10:41Now I want you to catch something here.
- 10:44What we
- 10:46get an opportunity to hear
- 10:48in verses 4 through 5
- 10:51is God introducing Jeremiah to his
- 10:54assignment.
- 10:57The Bible is clear
- 10:58in verses 1 through 3
- 11:01that this is during the kingly reign of
- 11:04a king named Josiah who has a very
- 11:06interesting reign. And if you're not
- 11:08familiar with him, I think you should
- 11:09look him up. He assumes the role of a
- 11:11king at a very very young age and
- 11:14[clears throat]
- 11:14he is leading during the time where
- 11:16there's spiritual decline, there is
- 11:18covenant
- 11:19um
- 11:20infidelity and unfaithfulness,
- 11:22covenantal infidelity and
- 11:24unfaithfulness. God's keeping his part
- 11:25of the covenant, they're not keeping
- 11:27their part of the covenant. There's
- 11:28political instability. There is the
- 11:31threat of military foreign domination
- 11:34and invasion. As a matter of fact,
- 11:36Jeremiah would eventually witness the
- 11:38Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem
- 11:42as a matter of fact and see people taken
- 11:44into exile and one of his most famous
- 11:47prophetic proclamations, Jeremiah 29:11,
- 11:51is actually given to people who've been
- 11:53taken away in exile when he says, "I
- 11:56know the plans I have for you, plans to
- 11:58prosper you not to harm you, plans to
- 12:00give you a hope and a future." He is
- 12:02saying that to people in exile.
- 12:06Which means
- 12:08you might get some of your best words in
- 12:09some of your worst seasons. Mhm.
- 12:13That the revelation God gives sometimes
- 12:15may seem to contradict your situation,
- 12:17but you better listen to me. What you
- 12:19are dealing with with your facts are
- 12:20facts, but what God says is truth, and
- 12:23facts don't change change truth, but
- 12:25truth will change facts.
- 12:31So, Jeremiah would eventually be used to
- 12:34communicate God's word to a very at
- 12:37times obstinate and resistant people.
- 12:40People who are frequently fighting help
- 12:42that they needed. I know you can't
- 12:43relate to that. His [snorts] assignment
- 12:46would would would
- 12:48would literally
- 12:50um
- 12:51infect him with anxiousness and
- 12:54agitation to the degree that we see even
- 12:58in Jeremiah 20. I love the transparency.
- 13:00We see in Jeremiah 20 him saying, "I'm
- 13:02tired of this." He literally told God.
- 13:04He said, "You deceived me." We read what
- 13:07God told him in
- 13:09>> [laughter]
- 13:09>> chapter
- 13:11in chapter number one. Check this out.
- 13:13Uh uh
- 13:15God says to Jeremiah, "Before I form you
- 13:16in the womb, I knew you. Before you were
- 13:18born, I set you apart. I appointed you
- 13:19as a prophet to the nations." And
- 13:21Jeremiah says, "Alas, sovereign Lord, I
- 13:23don't know how to speak. I'm too young."
- 13:25But God said, "Don't say I'm too young.
- 13:28You must go to overcome
- 13:30uh everyone that I send to you and say
- 13:33whatever I command you. Do not be afraid
- 13:35of them, for I am with you and will
- 13:38rescue you," declares the Lord. Now,
- 13:42here's what I want you to see here. I
- 13:44want you to see some something like this
- 13:46in Jeremiah chapter one. So, this is
- 13:47what God says in his calling experience.
- 13:49Now, here's what's interesting. In
- 13:51Jeremiah chapter 20, Jeremiah literally
- 13:53says to God, "You deceived me."
- 13:57When you called me,
- 13:59you didn't tell me all of this.
- 14:01Because he is dealing with hostility. He
- 14:03is dealing with persecution. Sometimes
- 14:06the persecution and hostility is so
- 14:09intense, it's literally putting his life
- 14:12in jeopardy. He's It's "This is not
- 14:14worth it." And he says, because of the
- 14:16accumulation of my frustration, I said
- 14:18to myself, I'm not going to keep
- 14:20prophesying. I'm not going to keep
- 14:22saying these things. He says, I will
- 14:24speak no more of this. I will not even
- 14:26make mention in his name. But watch what
- 14:28he says here. He says, but his word was
- 14:31within me like a burning fire shut up in
- 14:34my bones.
- 14:36Mhm. You know his purpose when you want
- 14:39to quit and you can't.
- 14:42>> [laughter]
- 14:44>> You know his purpose when you don't have
- 14:45to stay, but you got to stay.
- 14:48Woo, when you could leave, but you can't
- 14:50leave.
- 14:51When you don't have to take it, but you
- 14:52got to take it.
- 14:57This is
- 14:59Jeremiah's ministry.
- 15:01Verses 4 through 5, we get to see
- 15:03Jeremiah's prophetic commission. What is
- 15:07God doing? He is introducing him
- 15:11to his purpose. He is He is
- 15:13the one who made him
- 15:16is articulating to him what he is made
- 15:19for.
- 15:25And no matter how agitating, no matter
- 15:27how frustrating
- 15:29it no matter how irritating it is,
- 15:32what God made for you and had in mind
- 15:35for you is what's best for you.
- 15:41This, ladies and gentlemen,
- 15:43is purpose.
- 15:44And listen,
- 15:46our experience may not be as grand as
- 15:50Jeremiah's.
- 15:53But all of us have to have a Jeremiah 1
- 15:55experience. It is when you get a
- 15:57revelation of the reason for your
- 15:59creation. All of us at some point need a
- 16:03Jeremiah experience. It is when you
- 16:06recognize not just that I've been made,
- 16:08but you get a revelation of what you've
- 16:10been made for. We call this purpose.
- 16:14You've been made for more than just to
- 16:17accumulate and amass wealth. You've been
- 16:21made for more just to be a chronic
- 16:23consumer on this planet called Earth.
- 16:27You've been made for more than simply
- 16:29going to church. I'm not even going to
- 16:31say every Sunday cuz most people don't
- 16:33do that. But But you've been made for
- 16:35more than going to church regularly.
- 16:38You've been made for more than simply
- 16:40praying consistently. You've been made
- 16:42for more than simply giving generously.
- 16:45And you, ladies and gentlemen, will
- 16:47never know what you're made for without
- 16:50having a Jeremiah 1 experience
- 16:53with the one who made you.
- 16:57It is he that has made us, the biblical
- 16:59writer says, not we ourselves. We are
- 17:01his people and the sheep of his pasture.
- 17:06The Bible's clear. I've been bought with
- 17:08a price. I belong to him, the one who
- 17:11saved my life, reserves the right to use
- 17:15my life in a way that he sees fit.
- 17:19Talk back to me. It's purpose.
- 17:22And I'm going to tell you something.
- 17:24This is one of the most important
- 17:25subjects that we can talk about, but it
- 17:27is one that one of the subjects and at
- 17:29at the time of this filming, I have been
- 17:31doing pastoral ministry 21 years. And in
- 17:34my 21 years of pastoral ministry, by
- 17:35far, unequivocally, undeniably, in my
- 17:38experience, it is the subject most
- 17:39people are most confused about and it is
- 17:41scary to me as a pastor. It is scary for
- 17:44me as a pastor. I believe this as a
- 17:46pastor [laughter] because most people
- 17:48are going to get to the end of their
- 17:49life and never do with their life what
- 17:51they were supposed to do with it. It's
- 17:52scary.
- 17:54It's scary.
- 17:57It's scary.
- 18:01In my experience, most, meaning the
- 18:03majority,
- 18:05of people get to the end of their life
- 18:07with no sense of purpose for their life.
- 18:10They've achieved some things. They've
- 18:12acquired some things. They've
- 18:14accomplished some things. But
- 18:16achievement, acquirement, and
- 18:17accomplishment doesn't mean I'm
- 18:19operating in society in assignment.
- 18:22When I operate in assignment, I get the
- 18:24highest form of compensation. And the
- 18:25highest form of compensation is
- 18:27fulfillment. And that's what everybody
- 18:30is searching for.
- 18:32And when you're searching for it,
- 18:33Solomon says in Ecclesiastes, if you're
- 18:35searching for that kind of significance
- 18:38in anything that is under the sun,
- 18:40Solomon says you're chasing wind.
- 18:45He says it's like chasing wind.
- 18:48If I ya ya ya Solomon literally says
- 18:52that. He says, "Hey, relationally,
- 18:54nobody's got more than me. Financially,
- 18:57nobody's got more than me. When it comes
- 18:58to accomplishments, very few people have
- 19:00done more than me." And he says it's all
- 19:02vanity. It's meaningless.
- 19:10In terms of its ability to actually
- 19:13give satisfaction to my soul. That, sir,
- 19:16that, ma'am, only comes when we're
- 19:18operating in our assignment.
- 19:23It's purpose.
- 19:25It is the subject so many individuals
- 19:27are confused about.
- 19:29And they spend years looking for
- 19:31something that God wants to give them.
- 19:35They literally spend years seeking for
- 19:37something that God doesn't want to hide.
- 19:39Why would he want to hide this?
- 19:42So, maybe if people are confused, maybe
- 19:45it's not because God doesn't want to
- 19:47give them this information. Maybe
- 19:49they're looking for it in the wrong
- 19:50place. Maybe they're operating with
- 19:52assumptions about what it means. Maybe
- 19:54they're not looking for it because they
- 19:55think they already know what it is.
- 20:00And unfortunately, many people are
- 20:02operating It's not theology, but a
- 20:04reduct a reductionist ideology about
- 20:06purpose. And they reduce purpose to a
- 20:08profession, to a position, to a
- 20:10platform, or a particular
- 20:11accomplishment.
- 20:16But, purpose, write this down,
- 20:19is the reason for the reasons for the
- 20:22creation or the existence of a thing.
- 20:25The reasons for
- 20:27the
- 20:28the creation or the existence of a
- 20:29thing. It speaks to the intention behind
- 20:31creation and then the contribution that
- 20:33creation was designed to make. God
- 20:37has intentions for you and I. And then
- 20:39there are contributions that God wants
- 20:43us to make.
- 20:49If I'm making sense, say yes in the
- 20:50chat.
- 20:52So, what I want to do is I want to use
- 20:54the word of God to wage war against the
- 20:56weapon of confusion
- 20:59when it comes to this particular
- 21:00subject.
- 21:02I want to align our assumptions with the
- 21:05truth of scripture concerning purpose.
- 21:10And there are four dimensions of purpose
- 21:12that I think are incredibly important,
- 21:13family. Number one, the person you
- 21:16become.
- 21:19The person you become.
- 21:21When people don't understand this, they
- 21:23major in the thing that they do and then
- 21:25they minor in the person that they
- 21:26become, not realizing and recognizing
- 21:29that the person you become often times
- 21:32undermines the impact, can undermine or
- 21:35accelerate, undermine or accentuate,
- 21:38excuse me, the impact of what you do.
- 21:41That there are some people that are
- 21:43really good at what they do, but really
- 21:45bad at who they are. And when people get
- 21:47exposed to who they are, I don't care
- 21:49that much about what you do.
- 21:55But I want you to I want you to hear I
- 21:56want you to hear me now.
- 21:59When I say who you become, I'm talking
- 22:00about your character, your convictions,
- 22:02and your conduct are all expressions of
- 22:05your purpose. It's what's called a
- 22:06ministry of presence. Who are you? When
- 22:10you walk in the room, does generosity
- 22:12walk in the room? When you walk in the
- 22:14room, does patience walk in the room?
- 22:16When you walk in the room, your presence
- 22:20your presence becomes a ministry based
- 22:23on who you are.
- 22:27Am I making sense?
- 22:29Some people lift rooms and make them
- 22:31lighter. Some people infect rooms with
- 22:33cynicism and make them heavier.
- 22:38Who you become? Why? I'm going to tell
- 22:39you why this is important now.
- 22:41I want you to look throughout scripture
- 22:43and with some people
- 22:46they have very obvious and very powerful
- 22:48spiritual gifts.
- 22:51But you don't remember them for their
- 22:52spiritual gifts. Daniel is a prophet.
- 22:56The book of Daniel is situated in the
- 22:58section of the Bible called major
- 22:59prophets. It's very exhaustive.
- 23:02But if I would have ever asked the
- 23:04average Christian, even if they're
- 23:06highly biblically literate,
- 23:08what do you know about Daniel? And I'm
- 23:10trying not to run because I feel the
- 23:12Holy Ghost here.
- 23:13I feel a witness of the spirit. I feel
- 23:15the spirit uniquely at work
- 23:17[clears throat] taking scales off of
- 23:20people's eyes. I see Now I see I sense
- 23:23this very strongly that as I am teaching
- 23:26this that the spirit himself is doing a
- 23:30work taking scales off people's eyes
- 23:33because when you look at the book of
- 23:34Daniel, what you'll see is there's very
- 23:36exhaustive prophetic ministry, but if
- 23:39you ask the average believer, what do
- 23:40you know about him? Even [clears throat]
- 23:42those that are highly biblically
- 23:43literate are going to say the lion's
- 23:44den. Glory to God. Why? Because you
- 23:48remember him for his example, not even
- 23:51his contribution.
- 23:53You're inspired by his example. You're
- 23:56comforted by his example. You're
- 23:58educated by his example that even when I
- 24:02go into hostile environments
- 24:06where I should be consumed.
- 24:08Come on here.
- 24:10I should be consumed
- 24:12by extenuating circumstances or people.
- 24:15That's what lions can represent. That
- 24:17which would devour me. That which would
- 24:20tear me to pieces. But when I go in that
- 24:23and come out of that and I'm whole,
- 24:25hallelujah, and put together.
- 24:29That alone
- 24:31is an example that inspires, encourages,
- 24:35and educates other people.
- 24:38Woo! What if your greatest contribution
- 24:42Mhm.
- 24:44in in
- 24:46what you do,
- 24:47but what if your greatest contribution
- 24:49is in the example that you set?
- 24:51Y'all, I could go all throughout
- 24:52scripture and give you so many examples
- 24:53of this. I could ask you the average I'm
- 24:55literally on Sunday going to be talking
- 24:57a little bit about something called
- 24:58spiritual gifts. We're really going to
- 24:59take a biblical uh
- 25:03We're going to take a biblical
- 25:04expository journey on a few passages of
- 25:06scripture to help us understand
- 25:08spiritual gifts more accurately. But if
- 25:10I were to say, "What's Lazarus's
- 25:11spiritual gift?" You wouldn't even know.
- 25:14Because what God used with him
- 25:17was not his gifts. God used his getup.
- 25:20Come on in here.
- 25:22He was in the grave 4 days,
- 25:25but God got him up.
- 25:28That's what he used. So, part of purpose
- 25:30is who you become.
- 25:33And so many people are running trying to
- 25:35figure out what I'm supposed to do.
- 25:37And God's like, "Sit down
- 25:40so I can shape who you are."
- 25:46Your competency has outran your
- 25:47character.
- 25:53You really good, but we don't trust you.
- 25:55You really good, but we don't receive
- 25:58from you. You really good, but you're
- 26:00not safe.
- 26:01You really good, but you still gossip.
- 26:07So, you got answers to my issues, but
- 26:09you can't be trusted with my secrets.
- 26:11Competency has outran character.
- 26:16And I don't blame Christians. I really
- 26:20I really attribute this reality to
- 26:22Christian leaders. Because when
- 26:24Christian leaders allow their competency
- 26:28to outrun their character, then what are
- 26:30we expecting to happen
- 26:32with Christians?
- 26:39What we call successful isn't always
- 26:42what God will call safe.
- 26:46So, purpose requires formation, not just
- 26:49function.
- 26:51So, you working on your purpose when you
- 26:53let God work on you.
- 26:56Because the kind of spouse that your
- 26:58partner gets is going to be based not
- 27:00just on your function, it's going to be
- 27:01based on your formation. Are you
- 27:03hypersensitive? Are you defensive? Are
- 27:04you abusive? Are you combative?
- 27:12The kind of parent your children get is
- 27:14going to be based on not just function.
- 27:17I'm at the games. I'm giving money. They
- 27:19got a PlayStation in the room.
- 27:21But, it is formation. Who are you?
- 27:26So, it impacts the person is impacted by
- 27:28the person you become. Number two is
- 27:30impacted by the relationships you
- 27:31manage.
- 27:36This is important.
- 27:39How am I managing
- 27:41my relational world?
- 27:45Because this is important. Calling is
- 27:47not just limited to public
- 27:48accomplishments.
- 27:53I don't just steward my gifts.
- 27:57I don't just
- 27:58steward my time.
- 28:00I steward the people God has entrusted
- 28:01to me.
- 28:08Am I exploitive?
- 28:11Do I use people?
- 28:15Am I consistent?
- 28:19Am I present?
- 28:24So, it's not just the the things that I
- 28:25do, it's the person I become, it's the
- 28:27relationships I manage. Number three,
- 28:30it's the gifts I unleash.
- 28:32Now, there are three types of gifts that
- 28:35God gives.
- 28:36I'm going to be talking about this in
- 28:37the series.
- 28:38There's natural ability, we call that
- 28:41talent.
- 28:42There's acquired skill, these are
- 28:44competencies.
- 28:46And then there are spiritual gifts.
- 28:48Natural ability, that's talent. You are
- 28:51born with it.
- 28:52Acquired skill, these are things you
- 28:55learned out of preference or necessity.
- 29:01Am I making sense?
- 29:06And then there were
- 29:08That's what's called spiritual gifts.
- 29:09I'm not going to make a deep dive into
- 29:10this, but here's the point that I'm
- 29:12making.
- 29:15God
- 29:17desires to deploy all three sets of
- 29:20those.
- 29:24God use all three.
- 29:27I can have a natural ability to speak,
- 29:30but then I need to acquire skill to be
- 29:33an effective speaker.
- 29:35But then there's a spiritual gift that
- 29:37gives me a teaching gift. See, because
- 29:40speaking deals with the ability to
- 29:42articulate thoughts.
- 29:44The teaching gift shows you what
- 29:46thoughts to articulate.
- 29:48You can say nothing eloquently.
- 29:51It's like, man, that man just talked,
- 29:52but he didn't really say anything worth
- 29:54hearing.
- 29:55It was light. It was cornflakes. It
- 29:57wasn't cornbread, it was cornflakes.
- 30:00Come on, some of y'all If you know I'm
- 30:01right about it, put you right about it,
- 30:02Bishop. I'm not a bishop, but that's
- 30:06That's That's when I feel like I'm
- 30:07acting older.
- 30:09See, I got a natural age, and then I got
- 30:10a age I give myself in the spirit. In
- 30:13the spirit, in this season of my life,
- 30:14I'm 67.
- 30:17I'm about to I'm about to move it up to
- 30:1870.
- 30:19I can say what I want.
- 30:25Somebody put in the chat, talk about it,
- 30:26Bishop.
- 30:27I can say what I want. I'm a 70-year-old
- 30:30bishop.
- 30:31You can tell somebody is walking out of
- 30:32church, ah, sit down.
- 30:35>> [laughter]
- 30:37>> Where you going? Sit down. I'm going to
- 30:38the bathroom, Oh, all right. All
- 30:39right, daughter.
- 30:41All right, go on.
- 30:42Go on.
- 30:44Um Bishop, they wouldn't ask they
- 30:45wouldn't ask any questions. What You
- 30:46couldn't be thirsty?
- 30:48They got you in church 3 and 1/2 hours.
- 30:50You can't have no water?
- 30:51Ushers say, "Get that water out the
- 30:52sanctuary." We've been in here 3 and 1/2
- 30:55hours.
- 30:57My mouth is dry.
- 31:00And the Bishop sitting up with the
- 31:01throne chairs, he got Gatorade,
- 31:03Kool-Aid. Uh I wanted to be a preacher
- 31:06when I was a little boy because they got
- 31:07Peppermint Peppermints, Werther's
- 31:09Originals, and they got to drink during
- 31:11church.
- 31:12That's why I want to be a preacher. I
- 31:13want that.
- 31:16Here's my point.
- 31:18There are people that will use their
- 31:20natural ability, their acquired skill
- 31:26for every agenda but God's.
- 31:32How is God the one that gave you the
- 31:33gifts?
- 31:35And he gets no first right of refusal
- 31:37for them.
- 31:41Now, we're going to talk about this idea
- 31:43of spiritual gifts because
- 31:46what Paul tells Timothy is fanning to
- 31:49flame. Stir up the gifts, which means
- 31:51gifts can be deposited and be dormant.
- 31:53>> [clears throat]
- 31:57>> We see this a lot with with what we
- 31:59believe I'm not arguing with you. I'm
- 32:00not arg-
- 32:01I'm not arguing with you about this. I
- 32:02don't know why pe- Here's one thing I
- 32:04want to share some of y'all. This going
- 32:06to protect your peace. Establish a
- 32:08standard for who you're willing to argue
- 32:10with.
- 32:14Somebody put I don't know what to tell
- 32:16you to put it in the chat. Put it in the
- 32:18chat.
- 32:19But just put it in the chat, I know
- 32:20you're right.
- 32:21Establish a standard.
- 32:23The Bible says clearly, "A servant of
- 32:25the Lord must not strive."
- 32:28I saw what Jesus
- 32:30I I saw how strategic Jesus was. There
- 32:32were times he would engage, and then
- 32:34there were times he would ignore. Paul
- 32:35the same way.
- 32:37There were certain people he I mean,
- 32:38when he's on um
- 32:40Mars Hill, he's engaging
- 32:44with a certain kind of person that
- 32:46actually wanted a conversation, not an
- 32:48argument.
- 32:51So, I'm not going to argue with this,
- 32:53but like an example of a gift that can
- 32:54go like gifts when not put into use can
- 32:57go dormant. So, let's say like what we
- 33:00believe, our theology, we have a
- 33:01continuationist pneumatology. We believe
- 33:03in a prayer and praise language that
- 33:06that is historically called speaking in
- 33:08tongues, but we believe that the
- 33:10utilization of that uh in the corporate
- 33:12gathering should be really consistent
- 33:14with 1 Corinthians chapter number 14.
- 33:16And so, Paul gives some decent and in
- 33:18order. So, Paul gives very clear what we
- 33:21believe to be uh boundaries for the way
- 33:24that gift is utilized in the context of
- 33:26a local gathering. So, here's the point.
- 33:28He says, "Forbid not." So, we don't
- 33:29forbid, but Paul says decent and in
- 33:31order. And so, I think local churches
- 33:33have the ability to establish what
- 33:35decent and in order looks like here and
- 33:38for us. Here's the point that I'm
- 33:39making. When a person goes from an
- 33:41environment where it is no holds barred
- 33:45to an environment that says decent and
- 33:47in order, sometimes the gift goes
- 33:49dormant because they haven't learned how
- 33:51to use it in a way that takes into
- 33:54consideration 1 Corinthians chapter
- 33:55number 14. So, it's possible to have
- 33:58spiritual gifts and those gifts go
- 33:59dormant. But, what's happening with a
- 34:01lot of people is that they're using
- 34:02their natural ability and their acquired
- 34:04skill.
- 34:05They they got the gifts that are
- 34:07deposited. Those gifts are just dormant.
- 34:09Now, Lord, I'm I'm I'm already I'm I'm
- 34:11over teaching this, but here's the point
- 34:13that I'm making.
- 34:14The point that I'm making is
- 34:17a person can't accomplish their
- 34:18assignment unless they're willing to
- 34:20unleash their natural ability, acquired
- 34:21skill, and spiritual gifts in a way that
- 34:23is consistent with the reason God placed
- 34:26them on this planet.
- 34:30So, it's okay to make a dollar with
- 34:32acquired skill. I mean,
- 34:34we teach that. I teach that in my
- 34:36marketplace programs. Like my my
- 34:38community for uh faith-based high
- 34:40achievers that want to move that that
- 34:42want to experience quantum leaps that
- 34:43take them from underwhelm and under
- 34:45optimize to overflowing in peace,
- 34:47productivity, purpose, and profit.
- 34:50It's It's called Daniels. It's a
- 34:51faith-based personal development
- 34:53community that develops people
- 34:54personally and professionally. That
- 34:56teaches them how to fulfill the
- 34:57marketplace mandate. That's one of the
- 34:59collectives that exist. There's a
- 35:00collective inside It's a large coaching
- 35:02community, so we created these
- 35:03collectives to make it really small. So,
- 35:06just like small groups in a church, we
- 35:07created that in the community. And so,
- 35:09we got this collective called
- 35:10Marketplace Mandate Collective. People
- 35:12who understand I'm supposed to be a
- 35:13missionary to the marketplace. So, I go
- 35:15to the marketplace not just to make a
- 35:16dollar. We We We on that. But also to
- 35:19make a difference.
- 35:24Not just to get a check. Get that.
- 35:26But to make a change.
- 35:33And I'll just ask you as a Christian,
- 35:35do you really think God just gave you
- 35:37natural ability, acquired skill, and
- 35:39spiritual gifts just so you could have a
- 35:41pretty house?
- 35:42I love you. That's shallow.
- 35:46Not that you're shallow. That is a
- 35:48shallow understanding
- 35:51of the purpose of gifts.
- 35:54So, the fact that God called Jeremiah to
- 35:58prophesy subliminally suggests to us he
- 36:01has the ability to do it.
- 36:03But he has to be willing to unleash it.
- 36:09And here's what we do.
- 36:11Here's what some Christians do.
- 36:13Because there is a degree of
- 36:14inconvenience and aggravation associated
- 36:16with using your gifts in God's kingdom,
- 36:19we treat it optional.
- 36:22We'll take all the warfare in the world
- 36:23at work.
- 36:26But if somebody hurt our feelings in
- 36:28church, we out.
- 36:34Why? Cuz we take the income more
- 36:36seriously than our assignment.
- 36:39And it's not that we don't need income.
- 36:41It is a means to which God makes
- 36:42provision for his people. Of course, we
- 36:44need that.
- 36:47But some of us are unconsciously,
- 36:49literally,
- 36:52handling
- 36:54and dealing with a degree of complexity
- 36:57and warfare at work, and we won't even
- 36:59take inconvenience at church.
- 37:03Number four, we're done.
- 37:05Number one, the person you become.
- 37:06Number two, the relationships you
- 37:07manage. Number three, the gifts you
- 37:08unleash. And number four, the resources
- 37:10you release.
- 37:13Purpose involves the strategic
- 37:14stewardship of what God has entrusted
- 37:15into you, including
- 37:17time, influence, relationships,
- 37:19opportunity, and financial resources.
- 37:22Now, here's what I believe very clearly,
- 37:24that
- 37:25um
- 37:27individuals, not income,
- 37:30are one of the highest forms of earthly
- 37:31wealth.
- 37:33That relationships literally can do for
- 37:34people what income can't. But this
- 37:37includes income, and many people don't
- 37:39see a part of how they release resources
- 37:42into the world as a part of their
- 37:43purpose. Now, Solomon says in
- 37:46Ecclesiastes chapter number two, he
- 37:48says, "Now listen."
- 37:49He says, "Life's going to give you
- 37:52going to give you grief." He says, "The
- 37:53fool the the the fate of the fool and
- 37:55the wise man are both the same, that we
- 37:58both going to the same destination. The
- 37:59wise man and the fool both going to
- 38:01death."
- 38:02Now, what wisdom does is it makes your
- 38:04journey there a lot less bumpy than the
- 38:06fool, but we all going to the same
- 38:08place. And Solomon is like, he says,
- 38:10"Hey, because you know that it is
- 38:11inevitable for you." He said, "It's
- 38:13important to enjoy the fruit of your
- 38:15labor."
- 38:17So, we're not anti that. We think that
- 38:19is biblical. Yet at the same time,
- 38:22we need to get a revelation that God
- 38:23didn't give us resources just to enjoy.
- 38:26He gives us resources to also deploy. He
- 38:29says, "Hey,
- 38:30I give you the ability
- 38:32to get the resources.
- 38:34So, I don't send them from heaven, but
- 38:36the ability you're using to get them, I
- 38:37gave you that ability.
- 38:39So, what I need you to do
- 38:42is I need you to deploy those resources
- 38:44at my direction.
- 38:46I need you to aim them in areas that I
- 38:48say aim your resources there.
- 38:50Cuz I didn't just give you time
- 38:52to do what I called you to do. I gave
- 38:54you treasure to do what I called you to
- 38:56do.
- 38:58So, at some point it is like, "Okay, how
- 39:00many bags do we have that we can't use?"
- 39:03And then there are people that are
- 39:05living in a bag.
- 39:11Come on, Zion.
- 39:12Come on, Zion.
- 39:14Come on, Zion.
- 39:16See, God has called all of us to be
- 39:18intercessors, but in addition to us
- 39:20being intercessors, he's called us also
- 39:23to be answers.
- 39:25Here's my heart for our church.
- 39:27Here's my heart. Here's my heart for our
- 39:28church. Here's my heart for even the
- 39:30Blueprint community here. My heart for
- 39:32us is that we are intercessors and we
- 39:35answers. [clears throat]
- 39:36Intercessors, I'm talking to God about
- 39:38the problem. Answer, I'm in a position
- 39:41to be the solution.
- 39:43Woo!
- 39:45Hey, that doctor's not a good doctor. I
- 39:47know one.
- 39:51You You one semester away from finishing
- 39:52school and financial aid didn't come
- 39:54through. We don't have to pray about
- 39:55that. We write a check about that.
- 39:58We pray when you sick and you can't get
- 39:59well. We going to write a check about
- 40:01that.
- 40:03Cuz somebody got to be the answer.
- 40:05And when we don't have a healthy
- 40:07theology
- 40:09of economic empowerment, we are always
- 40:12at the mercy of the wicked
- 40:15to do good with wealth.
- 40:21Hallelujah.
- 40:24But may God stir our hearts
- 40:27with this conviction that we are made
- 40:28for more.
- 40:29And if you're unclear, cuz there you're
- 40:32either in one of three stages.
- 40:34You're unaware of your purpose.
- 40:38Right? So, it means that you you
- 40:42you just have no clue.
- 40:45You confused about it.
- 40:48Two, or number three, you were clear,
- 40:51but you sense shifting. Now, purpose
- 40:53isn't shifting. You may think it's
- 40:54purpose, but your role is shifting, not
- 40:57purpose.
- 41:00So, most people are there. Now, some
- 41:01people are in the season like, "Yo, I'm
- 41:03I'm right where I need to be right now."
- 41:04Cool. But, if you're any of those other
- 41:06three places, I'm inviting you to join
- 41:08me on this journey on Sundays.
- 41:11Don't play with this.
- 41:14Because I don't care how successful you
- 41:15are, independent of your assignment,
- 41:17you're chasing wind.
- 41:20You going to
- 41:21Some Some of you may never get what
- 41:22you're chasing. Some of you, here's
- 41:24going to be your curse, not like a hex
- 41:26when I say curse,
- 41:28but here's going to be your burden.
- 41:30Your burden's going to be you're going
- 41:31to get what you want. And then you're
- 41:33going to see it didn't do for you what
- 41:34you thought it was going to do.
- 41:36And now you're chasing something else.
- 41:37And now you're chasing something else.
- 41:39Because more of what doesn't satisfy
- 41:41don't satisfy.
- 41:44And my heart for us is that we receive
- 41:46this this way.
- 41:48You've been made for more.
- 41:50And I want you to take a journey with me
- 41:52on Sundays and on Wednesdays
- 41:55over these next 5 weeks or so,
- 41:57so you can make sure you're crystal
- 41:59clear on this.
- 42:02Cuz you might be doing a good thing. It
- 42:03don't mean it's a God thing.
- 42:08We're going to walk through this
- 42:09together, and I believe the Lord is
- 42:10going to open our eyes
- 42:12>> [snorts]
- 42:12>> so we can see him and see what we were
- 42:14made for differently.
- 42:16Man, I love you.
- 42:18Uh I'm going to wrap up our time of
- 42:19teaching here. I want to create some
- 42:21space for us. You know, I think God
- 42:23cares about a teaching ministry.
- 42:27I think he really does.
- 42:29He cares greatly about local churches,
- 42:30but he also cares about what we call gap
- 42:32ministry. Ministries that fill in the
- 42:34gap between what local churches provide
- 42:36and what the body of Christ needs. And
- 42:38the teaching ministry is a ministry like
- 42:40I serve Change Church, but there are
- 42:42those of you who are part of this
- 42:43blueprint community, you got a church,
- 42:44you got a pastor. Change Church ain't
- 42:45even your kind of church.
- 42:49But this teaching ministry is blessing
- 42:50you.
- 42:52And my question is, do you think God
- 42:53wants a teaching ministry that is
- 42:55biblically faithful yet highly
- 42:56practical? I've heard I hear a lot of
- 42:58biblically faithful messages and I'm
- 43:00just like, I don't know what I can do
- 43:01with that tomorrow.
- 43:03Cuz I'm actually an individual that
- 43:05wants to live it out in my day-to-day
- 43:06life. Not just in my morals.
- 43:10You can live right morally and not live
- 43:11well.
- 43:12A person can not sin with their money
- 43:14and be terrible in managing it.
- 43:16And whatever whatever whatever area you
- 43:19don't manage well is the area you'll
- 43:21eventually have misery in.
- 43:23Don't manage your relational life well,
- 43:25there's a day coming you're going to
- 43:26have misery in it.
- 43:28So, does God care about the expansion of
- 43:30this teaching ministry? Yes.
- 43:34So, should we
- 43:35some of us at least be directing
- 43:37resources to help expand its reach and
- 43:39impact?
- 43:40Undoubtedly.
- 43:43And each week we give people an
- 43:44opportunity as they're able
- 43:47and as their hearts are stirred to do
- 43:48that.
- 43:50You believe in this.
- 43:52Would you so into it?
- 43:54Man, we want to produce curriculums and
- 43:56books and apps. [clears throat]
- 43:58Uh we're working on one right now.
- 44:00And uh
- 44:02we can do that when God's people
- 44:03surround
- 44:05a vision.
- 44:06Um
- 44:07God determines a vision
- 44:10but God's people
- 44:12help bring that vision to reality.
- 44:15We love you.
- 44:16Father, I thank you for your word. May
- 44:18it dwell richly Colossians 3:16 in the
- 44:21hearts of your people.
- 44:23Open our eyes to see that we were made
- 44:25for more.
- 44:27And over these next several weeks, would
- 44:28you confirm or show us what we were made
- 44:31for?
- 44:32In the name of Jesus we pray.
- 44:34Amen.
- 44:36See you next time.
- 45:04>> Mhm.
