- 1:15ABBY LEE MILLER: Girls, let's go.
- 1:17Moms, welcome to Millennium.
- 1:19This is one of the premiere dance studios in LA.
- 1:23I'm really excited to be dancing at Millennium Dance
- 1:26Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears rehearsed there.
- 1:26Studio.
- 1:29It's just really cool to think about.
- 1:31All right, ladies, this week, we are staying right here
- 1:35in California.
- 1:35[APPLAUSE]
- 1:37Yes.
- 1:39But I want to talk about the iHollywood competition.
- 1:43You are not focused on that competition.
- 1:45Hey, guys, I need everybody dressed.
- 1:47I haven't even said who's in the dance
- 1:49and who isn't in the dance.
- 1:51And I want to compliment each and every one of you
- 1:54on that little girl, Nakia that came to our studio.
- 1:57I want everyone to notice this pyramid,
- 1:59that there's no Kia and no little Nakia.
- 2:03You were all friendly.
- 2:04You all behaved like nice, young ladies.
- 2:08You guys, I don't know what happened.
- 2:11You don't know a thing, [BLEEP]..
- 2:14Uh, beat it, [BLEEP].
- 2:15Don't let the door hit you on the way out then.
- 2:17Thank you, moms.
- 2:19They've run off another potential student.
- 2:21Let's put iHollywood behind us.
- 2:23We are moving on to the pyramid.
- 2:25On the bottom of the pyramid, Kendall,
- 2:29you're back on the team.
- 2:31That's where you have to start.
- 2:33I thought you were outstanding in the group routine.
- 2:41It's those shoulders, the technique,
- 2:44everything that has to continue to improve.
- 2:46I tried my hardest to get back on this team,
- 2:49but I'm also sad because I don't think it's fair that I have
- 2:52to be last on pyramid.
- 2:54Next.
- 2:56Paige, you're coming off an injury.
- 2:58You did the group routine.
- 3:00I thought you did very well.
- 3:07You should be 100% by this week.
- 3:09You need to dance full out.
- 3:10Paige hasn't done a solo in weeks.
- 3:12She needs to get out on that stage and start dancing again.
- 3:15Come on, Paige, show me what you have.
- 3:17And next, Brooke.
- 3:21You were in a group dance and you did not finish the routine
- 3:25in time with everybody else.
- 3:27And next, we have Maddie.
- 3:29Maddie, in the group dance, you just kind of blended in.
- 3:33A dancer like you should stand out amongst the crowd.
- 3:37Maddie was at the bottom row, so it is what it is.
- 3:42What are you going to do?
- 3:44Moving up the ladder, Nia.
- 3:46You were given something different.
- 3:47The music was very difficult for me to choreograph to.
- 3:51It was also difficult to dance to.
- 3:53I thought you handled it really well.
- 4:01Your big problem is the technique,
- 4:03so you need to step it up, babe.
- 4:05Next, Chloe.
- 4:08Chloe, you made the top five.
- 4:10I want number one.
- 4:11You need to be consistent.
- 4:12You came out.
- 4:13You did two turns and bobbled all over the place.
- 4:16This is the week before nationals,
- 4:18so now I'm feeling pressure to do really good.
- 4:22On top of the pyramid is Mackenzie.
- 4:26Mackenzie was third overall high scorer in her division,
- 4:29so that put her on top of the pyramid,
- 4:31and I was very proud of you.
- 4:32Mackenzie's on the top of the pyramid this week.
- 4:35She's very excited because it doesn't happen very often
- 4:38for her.
- 4:38So she's really tickled.
- 4:40This week, we will be attending In10sity Dance
- 4:43Competition.
- 4:44This is the competition that determines
- 4:48who is dancing at nationals.
- 4:50This is a really big week for us.
- 4:52I need to figure out what's going to nationals,
- 4:54so I proceed to announce the new routines for In10sity Dance.
- 4:59Mackenzie, you are doing a solo.
- 5:02It's called "A Perfect Day in the Sun."
- 5:06Chloe, you will be doing another contemporary lyrical routine
- 5:11entitled "Ghost."
- 5:13And Paige, you have a solo also.
- 5:15[APPLAUSE]
- 5:17Kendall, you will be doing a solo.
- 5:20The name of your is "Kiss Kiss."
- 5:24Nia, we're changing it up again for you.
- 5:28You're going to be doing a '60s-inspired number.
- 5:31And Brooke, you're going to have to get your butt up in the air.
- 5:35The name of your solo is "Fly."
- 5:38So all of your aerial work needs to be in there.
- 5:44I see Melissa out of the corner of my eye going, Maddie,
- 5:47get your hand up.
- 5:48Maddie, get your hand.
- 5:49Raise your hand.
- 5:50Melissa, butt out.
- 5:52Do I have a solo?
- 5:54I know darn well that Maddie is one of the strongest dancers
- 5:58on my team and that she should be doing a solo.
- 6:00But you know what?
- 6:01I can't give her one.
- 6:03Maddie, I'm not hurting your feelings.
- 6:05She has to want it.
- 6:07Maddie has to come to me and beg for that solo back.
- 6:10But I have a bunch of other kids that want to do solos.
- 6:13She wants to do a solo very bad.
- 6:15I understand that, but you interrupted her and wanted her
- 6:18not to do it because you were afraid of losing all
- 6:20your friends.
- 6:21It was really hard to see Maddie's face.
- 6:23I'm the one that didn't let her do a solo a few weeks ago.
- 6:26Abby's going to going to tell you you're doing a solo,
- 6:28and you're not.
- 6:30And I'm not trying to speak for my children,
- 6:32but it's very hard when you see your child cry.
- 6:35Maddie, toughen up.
- 6:36You're going to go to an audition
- 6:38and not get picked some day.
- 6:39Get it?
- 6:40And you need to stand there with a smile on your face.
- 6:42Everything for nationals rests on how they perform this week.
- 6:46And at this point, I feel so sad for Maddie
- 6:49because she's upset that she doesn't have a solo,
- 6:51and then she's dealing with like Abby's pent up frustration
- 6:54that she's no longer her favorite.
- 6:56All right.
- 6:57Moms, you're dismissed.
- 7:00Ladies, spread apart.
- 7:01Let's start warming up.
- 7:02Reach towards the mirror.
- 7:03Arch.
- 7:042, 3, 4.
- 7:07Nationals is next week, so to prepare,
- 7:11I'm giving each one of the girls a solo at In10sity Dance
- 7:14Competition.
- 7:15Well, almost everybody.
- 7:18Maddie was trying to fight back the tears,
- 7:19but she just couldn't, you know.
- 7:21But why was she crying, just because she didn't get a solo?
- 7:24Yeah.
- 7:25I mean, because everybody has a solo.
- 7:26Melissa, my kids never have a solo, ever.
- 7:29I know, but Kelly, if everybody got a solo
- 7:32except your daughter, you don't think she would be hurt?
- 7:35If my kid goes up and raises her hand and asks for a solo,
- 7:38is she going to give her one?
- 7:40No.
- 7:41No.
- 7:42So why does it work that way?
- 7:44My kids would like to have a solo every week, too.
- 7:46It gets to work that way for Maddie.
- 7:48When Brooke was little, she used to be the favorite.
- 7:50She used to be the "Maddie" of the group.
- 7:53And this is how Abby works.
- 7:55She finds somebody that's young and amazing,
- 7:58and then once they win it all and they start
- 8:00losing the ambition, because she burns them out,
- 8:03she moves on to somebody else.
- 8:05Mackenzie, you only have four days to learn this solo.
- 8:08You need to step it up.
- 8:09Get it?
- 8:10All right.
- 8:11So it's called "A Perfect Day in the Sun."
- 8:14Mackenzie has a darling little solo.
- 8:16I just hope she can remember.
- 8:18And go.
- 8:19Chaine.
- 8:20[FRENCH] Chaine.
- 8:22[FRENCH] Sit.
- 8:25Boom.
- 8:26Up.
- 8:27Just here.
- 8:28No body roll. Just here.
- 8:30You're facing this way.
- 8:31You need to face the corner.
- 8:32It's a lot of pressure because I'm at the top of the pyramid
- 8:35and I have to remember it all.
- 8:40I'm leaving.
- 8:41Where are you going?
- 8:41I'm going to take my kids somewhere.
- 8:43To do what?
- 8:44Just leaving. There's only 20 minutes left.
- 8:46- What have you got going on? - I'm just going.
- 8:48I'm leaving.
- 8:49I'm going.
- 8:50There's no reason to be here.
- 8:51My liar radar went up.
- 8:52Beep, beep, beep, beep.
- 8:54Because there is no way Melissa was leaving dance early
- 8:58because dance is her life.
- 8:59I knew she was going somewhere.
- 9:01It was somewhere important.
- 9:02Please.
- 9:03She probably has meeting, meeting, meeting, meeting,
- 9:06meeting, meeting, meeting, commercial meeting set up.
- 9:07But why is it such a secret?
- 9:08Like why does she just sneak out and do it behind our backs?
- 9:12That's how she operates.
- 9:18OK, come on, kids.
- 9:19Right here in this cool door.
- 9:24Hi, gorgeous. How are you?
- 9:25Hello.
- 9:29I have been in contact with an agency since last summer,
- 9:32so I thought I'd take my children to a general meeting,
- 9:35to MSA.
- 9:36How long have you been dancing, honey?
- 9:38For seven years.
- 9:39For seven years.
- 9:40OK, great.
- 9:41Well, I think you guys would be really fantastic, obviously,
- 9:43for commercials.
- 9:44Commercials are great for kids.
- 9:46What would the next step be to get Mackenzie
- 9:49into a commercial, or you know.
- 9:51As soon as something comes up that they're right for,
- 9:54I'll let you guys know.
- 9:55I'll submit them and we'll go from there.
- 9:56- OK, great. - Cool?
- 9:57- Thank you so much-- - You're welcome.
- 9:58--for meeting with us on such short notice.
- 10:00I understand. It's no problem.
- 10:01Maddie and Kenzie both shined at the interview, I feel,
- 10:04and Jen and the girls really made a connection.
- 10:07So I'm hoping for the best.
- 10:08[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 10:15So ready?
- 10:16Let's take it from the top.
- 10:17[MUSIC - FIONA KERNAGHAN, "CITY OF ANGELS"]
- 10:19See the yoga buddies in their SUVs.
- 10:22They got their cups of coffee and their inner peace.
- 10:27See the homeless dude sleeping in a box.
- 10:30Just look the other way, but it never stops.
- 10:33I'm running my dance, "City of Angels."
- 10:36and I really like it, but I know that Abby is watering it
- 10:40down just because of my foot.
- 10:41And it's starting to hurt, so I don't
- 10:44know if I'll be able to dance at competition.
- 10:46Let's go.
- 10:46We got to move.
- 10:47You're out of here.
- 10:48Thank you, Kelly.
- 10:49Paige's foot is not 100% healed yet,
- 10:52so I can't make her run the routine over and over and over.
- 10:55It could cause more injury to the foot.
- 10:57- How are you feeling? - Do you like your number?
- 10:58Are you on the couch most of the time?
- 11:00- Don't cry. - Oh, no, no, no.
- 11:01Don't cry, Paige.
- 11:04Did Abby say something?
- 11:08Paige has had a broken foot.
- 11:10And for her to go out there after having one hour to learn
- 11:14a dance and to practice on a prop is not fair.
- 11:22[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 11:27Hi, ladies.
- 11:28Hey.
- 11:30This is a busy day for me.
- 11:32We have two more days until the competition, 48 hours.
- 11:37I have six solos to look at.
- 11:39So girls, we're going to work.
- 11:48Chloe is doing a routine called "Ghost."
- 11:51The music is pretty.
- 11:52It gets bigger and bigger.
- 11:54I think this is a good number for her.
- 12:04Chloe, remember, I am watching everybody.
- 12:07This routine this week is my decision for nationals.
- 12:10I've been very impressed with Chloe for the last two weeks.
- 12:13She's worked hard.
- 12:14Keep working on it.
- 12:15Tell me a story.
- 12:16This kid has got it.
- 12:20So guys, Brooke and I were talking,
- 12:21and you know how she wrote a song?
- 12:23While I'm out here in LA, we want to record Brooke's song
- 12:27professionally, and we want you guys to come with us
- 12:31and be her backup singers.
- 12:33[CHEERING]
- 12:37Brooke wants to have a singing career.
- 12:39Well, I've hired a music producer to record her song.
- 12:42[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 12:42Woo.
- 12:43Come on, girls.
- 12:44We got a bunch of kids, the coolest ones around.
- 12:46Shake it, shake it, baby, make the world go round.
- 12:50Nia's routine is packed full of entertainment value.
- 12:53[MUSIC CONTINUING]
- 12:53We're going to get the party going.
- 12:55Pump that crowd.
- 12:56Shake it.
- 12:58And that's Nia does best.
- 12:59OK, this is a '60s number.
- 13:01Some people may love it.
- 13:02Some people may hate it.
- 13:04You have to make them love you, regardless of the choreography
- 13:09or the costume or the music.
- 13:10Get it?
- 13:11All right.
- 13:15So yesterday, I got a phone call.
- 13:17We had a general meeting with MSA.
- 13:18It was pretty cool.
- 13:22Like they really liked Mackenzie.
- 13:23Melissa hates to be one upped.
- 13:24As soon as Kelly said she was doing anything for her kids,
- 13:27Melissa's like, oh, I already did something for mine.
- 13:29I took them to an agent.
- 13:31Why didn't you tell us you were going somewhere?
- 13:33Because I just wanted to go.
- 13:34Because you like to do stuff without telling us.
- 13:37Why was it such a big secret?
- 13:39They called me yesterday and asked if they could see me.
- 13:42But you still could have told us.
- 13:43Like that's what we get mad about, Melissa.
- 13:45I just think that these kinds of things
- 13:47are the things that make Maddie feel bad.
- 13:51Maddie wants to be part of our group.
- 13:53I know she does.
- 13:54But you and Abby don't let her.
- 13:56Are you going to tell Abby?
- 13:57Is this something that is her business?
- 14:00I'm just curious.
- 14:01Yesterday, Melissa left the rehearsal early
- 14:04with both of her kids.
- 14:05I don't know where she went, but I'm going
- 14:07to get to the bottom of it.
- 14:13To a guy?
- 14:49I know Melissa wants what's best for Maddie and Mackenzie,
- 14:53but it's not about signing them with an agent.
- 14:55It's about concentrating on their dancing, their education,
- 14:59and their training.
- 15:00All right, Brooke, you have two more days
- 15:02to perfect this routine.
- 15:03Your jumps need to be higher than they ever were.
- 15:05Your tumbling skills need to be lofty.
- 15:09Let's do it.
- 15:09My solo this week is called "Fly,"
- 15:12and it's an acrobatic routine.
- 15:13And I'm really excited. I think it's going to do well.
- 15:16[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 15:17I've been waiting so long, been so patient for you to bloom.
- 15:21Smile.
- 15:24Lock that left feet.
- 15:25[MUSIC CONTINUING]
- 15:26I know we can fly.
- 15:31All right, a lot of it's wonderful.
- 15:33Take the music.
- 15:34Listen to it.
- 15:36Find the story in it.
- 15:37And tell everybody.
- 15:40Do something with this.
- 15:43I think her performance of the choreography
- 15:45is outstanding, except the face.
- 15:48Is she going to go out on stage and be poetic and impress
- 15:52the judges?
- 15:54I don't know.
- 15:55All right.
- 16:03Hi.
- 16:04How are you?
- 16:05This is Brooke.
- 16:06I am so excited to give all the girls an opportunity to go
- 16:10to a real recording studio.
- 16:11I don't think that the girls have a lot of opportunities
- 16:14in Pittsburgh, but I think that now that we're in LA,
- 16:17that we need to take advantage of this.
- 16:20[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 16:24(SINGING) Oh, yeah.
- 16:29Friday night.
- 16:30It feels so right.
- 16:32Cool breeze in the August sky.
- 16:34We're recording "Summer Love Song" in Seven Studio,
- 16:37and it's with my best friend.
- 16:39It's awesome. (SINGING) Come on.
- 16:41Come on. Come on.
- 16:42Come on. Come on.
- 16:43Come on.
- 16:44Play that racket till the sun goes down.
- 16:47From the beach to the party to the underground.
- 16:49Let me keep on cruising.
- 16:51Put your hands in the air.
- 16:52Keep grooving.
- 16:56I don't know what is going to come out
- 16:57of recording this song.
- 16:59I just hope that at the end of the day,
- 17:00everybody had a good time doing this
- 17:02and it was a positive thing for them.
- 17:05You did a great job.
- 17:10All right, Kendall, the routine is "Kiss Kiss."
- 17:13It's not very deep, but you have to go out there and entertain
- 17:16the audience.
- 17:18Kendall may be back on the team, but she's got a long way
- 17:20to go to climb up that pyramid.
- 17:22Her solo this week better not disappoint me.
- 17:25Let's do it.
- 17:29It's really important that I try my hardest this week
- 17:32because I really want a solo at nationals.
- 17:35Watch your elbows.
- 17:36Don't break your elbows there.
- 17:38Energy.
- 17:39Shoulders up.
- 17:42There's some lyrics in there that you're not
- 17:44hearing about the tears.
- 17:45I don't see that.
- 17:48Go.
- 17:48Just wait.
- 17:50Let's see how long it takes Kendall to buzz right by people
- 17:53at the top of that pyramid.
- 17:54So what's up with you?
- 17:56I really want a solo this week.
- 17:58I feel like every time I do a solo, I feel more happier.
- 18:01And you threw that all away.
- 18:03I wanted you to do a solo to freak out Justice,
- 18:06and I think you should have done it for me.
- 18:09You know what?
- 18:10I feel like I'm giving you an opportunity
- 18:12and you're crapping all over me.
- 18:14You need to tell me why you shouldn't do a solo.
- 18:17I'm the only one that doesn't have a solo this week, so.
- 18:20That's not a reason.
- 18:21It has to come from here, Maddie.
- 18:23You have to want it.
- 18:25I don't want to see Maddie upset,
- 18:27but I have to teach Maddie a lesson.
- 18:30It shouldn't come so easy.
- 18:31You have to want it like everybody else.
- 18:34You have to work on it like everybody else.
- 18:36And you have to go out there and prove yourself,
- 18:39just like everybody else.
- 18:40I want you to want it.
- 18:47[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 18:48Megaphone, where is it?
- 18:50Being the manager that I am, I see a golden opportunity.
- 18:55Let's take this little CD that Brooke's made.
- 18:58Let's take the music and let's do a video.
- 19:01Let's go.
- 19:03I have a vision for this video.
- 19:04I see the girls up on top of one of those sightseeing
- 19:07buses that tour all over the Los Angeles area.
- 19:11They're going to be up there dancing in their seats,
- 19:13swinging their arms around.
- 19:14Fun, fun, fun.
- 19:16That's what I want to see.
- 19:17And action.
- 19:19[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 19:20(SINGING) Oh, yeah.
- 19:25Brooke, you're not playing to the camera.
- 19:27All I'm getting is the side of your hair
- 19:29and your face like this.
- 19:31I'm really excited I'm shooting my own music video,
- 19:34but Abby's sucking all the fun out of it.
- 19:36She keeps yelling at us.
- 19:37That's all I see.
- 19:38Turn your head and look in the camera.
- 19:40Quit putting your arms up in front of someone else's face.
- 19:43You know, I'm glad that Abby wants to be a part of it,
- 19:45but why does she have to take charge?
- 19:48Run up. Run down.
- 19:50You're just having fun. Like da, da, da.
- 19:51You don't even know there's a camera on you.
- 19:53Up, up, up, and down, down, down.
- 19:54And back up in the middle.
- 19:55Oh, there's some guy taking my picture.
- 19:57Yes?
- 19:58And then turn up.
- 19:59High arms, big butt.
- 20:01Look, and then take that camera with you.
- 20:03Got it?
- 20:04All right, ready?
- 20:05A lot of the ideas that Abby has for the video I think
- 20:08are cute.
- 20:09Action, Mackenzie.
- 20:10Go.
- 20:111, 2, 3.
- 20:12Action.
- 20:13Good girl.
- 20:14Nice.
- 20:15Did you get that, Nia?
- 20:16Yeah.
- 20:17Are you sure?
- 20:17I'm positive.
- 20:18OK.
- 20:19Shooting a music video in LA?
- 20:21I mean, come on.
- 20:22That's a dream job.
- 20:23Run, Maddie, run.
- 20:26We all got a special part in the music video.
- 20:28ABBY LEE MILLER: Run.
- 20:29Dance.
- 20:30Go, go, go.
- 20:32Miss Abby's having me dance out in the street.
- 20:35I think this is one of the best days ever.
- 20:38[CHEERING]
- 20:39Good job, guys.
- 20:41ABBY LEE MILLER: Yeah.
- 20:42We're done.
- 20:46All right, ladies.
- 20:47I only have the studio for 45 more minutes,
- 20:50because we did a video today.
- 20:52This week is very important.
- 20:54I'm making my decision on who gets to dance at nationals.
- 20:57So these girls need to bring everything they have
- 21:00and impress me with their solos.
- 21:04I really wanted to do a solo this week
- 21:06because of the competition and because we're in LA,
- 21:11and I just love doing solos.
- 21:13All right.
- 21:14Well, if you love doing solos, then
- 21:16whenever you're offered one, you should jump at the opportunity,
- 21:18because it's not going to always come by.
- 21:20I can tell Maddie really wants a solo,
- 21:22and I think she's learned her lesson,
- 21:24so it's time to put this kid back in the game.
- 21:27Maddie, you haven't had a solo in weeks,
- 21:30so this is your big chance to show me that you still
- 21:33have the ambition.
- 21:34I'm so glad Miss Abby gave me a solo, because I think that I
- 21:38really deserved it, and I don't want to let her down.
- 21:43ABBY LEE MILLER: Turn your knees out when you land that chaine.
- 21:46You're not stepping on a turned out foot.
- 21:50Lean your back foot in the attitude.
- 21:51You are rusty, kid.
- 21:56I always expected that Maddie would have a solo going
- 21:59into nationals.
- 22:00I knew she was going to have a solo, whether she took off
- 22:02two weeks, five weeks.
- 22:03I don't want that kid to go to nationals.
- 22:05I think the most telling thing in there,
- 22:07when she was yelling at Maddie that she was rusty after three
- 22:10weeks. Hello?
- 22:11None of the other kids ever dance.
- 22:12It proved our point.
- 22:14You only get better by having more practice on stage.
- 22:17[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 22:19And I just threw it away.
- 22:23I think I'm ready to pull off a solo,
- 22:26but I need to show Miss Abby that I did deserve it.
- 22:32OK, stand up.
- 22:33You wanted this solo, you got it.
- 22:37The kids are working their butts off to impress me.
- 22:41If these girls want to dance at nationals,
- 22:43they're going to have to prove it to me at In10sity Dance
- 22:46Competition.
- 22:47All right.
- 22:48We're all good for today.
- 22:52[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 22:54This is it.
- 22:56We arrive at the competition.
- 22:58It's a professional working theater here in Los Angeles.
- 23:02[APPLAUSE]
- 23:09Woo.
- 23:10Nice space.
- 23:12This competition is very important for my girls.
- 23:15Not only do they have to win, but they have to impress me.
- 23:19I'm making my decision for nationals.
- 23:25These solos today need to be top notch.
- 23:28Today is not the day for mistakes.
- 23:30Girls, you have to understand.
- 23:32Not only is just today a big day because of the other dance
- 23:35studios that are here, but this is the end of the road.
- 23:39Maybe the end of the line for some of you.
- 23:42People always say I put pressure on my girls.
- 23:44I think that's a bunch of bunk.
- 23:46This is your last opportunity to impress me before nationals.
- 23:51I need to pick who's going, and it's not going to be everybody.
- 23:56I want a great performance.
- 23:57Are you ready?
- 23:58Yes.
- 23:59Kendall, this is your first solo
- 24:02back on the team as an official member, so you need to impress
- 24:06me, kiddo.
- 24:07All right. Let's do it.
- 24:08Game faces.
- 24:18The only thing I care about in the world right now is my solo.
- 24:25ANNOUNCER: And next to the In10sity
- 24:27stage is act number 20.
- 24:30This is "It's a Perfect Day for Fun."
- 24:32[CHEERING]
- 24:37[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 24:48It's a perfect day to run and play.
- 24:52It's a perfect day for fun.
- 24:54The sky is blue, and all I gotta do
- 24:57is hitch a ride with the sun.
- 25:00I'm going to head out west and do my best to smile and laugh
- 25:04a ton.
- 25:08Mackenzie steps on stage and goes blank.
- 25:12Please.
- 25:13Keep going.
- 25:13Keep going.
- 25:15[MUSIC CONTINUING]
- 25:15It's a perfect day to laugh and play.
- 25:18It's a perfect day for fun.
- 25:20It's a perfect day to run and day.
- 25:23It's a perfect day for fun.
- 25:26The sky is blue and all I got to do
- 25:29is hitch a ride with the sun.
- 25:31[CHEERING]
- 25:35ANNOUNCER: That was act number 20,
- 25:38"It's a Perfect Day for Fun."
- 25:41Mackenzie did a routine.
- 25:42Could it have been better?
- 25:43Yes, absolutely.
- 25:49In my solo, I forgot a split second,
- 25:52and then I kept going on.
- 25:53But I'm worried that Abby's going to be really mad at me.
- 25:56ANNOUNCER: And next to the In10sity
- 25:58stage is act number 31.
- 26:00Please welcome "Kiss Kiss."
- 26:02[CHEERING]
- 26:07[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 26:20I have to admit, I'm very nervous watching this solo.
- 26:24I hate to put this much pressure on my child,
- 26:27but she has to win, because I really want her there
- 26:30at nationals competing against these kids.
- 26:32[MUSIC - ANALOGUE REVOLUTION, "KISS KISS"]
- 26:32I've had enough.
- 26:33I tell myself, come on, get up.
- 26:37Kiss, kiss, baby.
- 26:39Going to miss this, baby.
- 26:41I'll see ya.
- 26:42Now I'm moving on.
- 26:44Kiss, kiss, baby.
- 26:45Going to miss this, baby.
- 26:47Oh.
- 26:51Kiss this.
- 26:53[CHEERING]
- 26:56ANNOUNCER: That was "Kiss Kiss," number 31.
- 27:01When I came off stage after my solo, I thought I did great.
- 27:04And I just wanted to show Abby what
- 27:07I could do because I really want a solo at nationals.
- 27:10[CHEERING]
- 27:15Mackenzie, you looked fabulous.
- 27:16You did great, honey.
- 27:17I'm so proud.
- 27:18Look, you did great.
- 27:20Listen, your turns, your legs.
- 27:21Well, we're off to a good start, would you say?
- 27:24Yes.
- 27:29I'm outside that door and I'm hearing
- 27:31the word perfect, perfect.
- 27:33You know that was not perfect, right?
- 27:36You went out there and did down, straddle jump, down, stood up,
- 27:40and everybody in that whole place
- 27:41knew you forgot what to do.
- 27:44You know you forgot what to do, and so did every judge
- 27:44I knew.
- 27:46and everybody in the whole building.
- 27:48Come on, Mackenzie, you had that in the bag.
- 27:51Kendall, I thought you did a nice job.
- 27:52I ask you to use your face.
- 27:54I wanted to see it change and see you look at the judges.
- 27:57You did just that.
- 27:58Could things have been better?
- 27:59Yeah, they can always be better.
- 28:02You guys need to come off that stage knowing it's
- 28:05the best you've ever danced.
- 28:07You don't fly 3,000 miles to do it 80% or 90%.
- 28:12Are these girls really trying to impress me?
- 28:15This is the best they can muster?
- 28:17If you're trying to impress me for nationals,
- 28:19it's not happening.
- 28:26[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 28:30Maddie, you and Nia are up next.
- 28:31You haven't done a solo in what, three weeks now?
- 28:34Are you going to get out there and choke?
- 28:36Are you going to be average?
- 28:37Or are you going to be exceptional?
- 28:40Let's hope.
- 28:46All I've said to the girls this week is, hey,
- 28:49this is your last opportunity to impress me before nationals.
- 28:54[APPLAUSE]
- 28:56ANNOUNCER: Please welcome, "I Like the '60s."
- 29:02[MUSIC - BROADWAY PUPPIES, "SHAKE IT"]
- 29:04Woo.
- 29:05Come on, girls.
- 29:06We got a bunch of kids, the coolest ones around.
- 29:10Shake it, shake it.
- 29:11Make the world go round.
- 29:13Just keep yourself dancing.
- 29:14Keep it nice and loud.
- 29:16We're going to get the party going.
- 29:17Pump that crowd.
- 29:18Shake it.
- 29:20Come on, shake it.
- 29:23Because music makes you lose it when it's in your soul.
- 29:27Just jump up and ground it, baby, rock and roll.
- 29:30'Cause when you're cool like us, your feet
- 29:32keep moving around and around and around.
- 29:34And shake it.
- 29:36Yeah, shake it.
- 29:39Come on, shake it.
- 29:42Shake it.
- 29:45[APPLAUSE]
- 29:48Throughout the routine, Nia's face was off the charts.
- 29:53She was great.
- 29:57I need to show Abby that she made the right choice to give
- 30:00me the solo.
- 30:01ANNOUNCER: And next to the In10sity
- 30:03stage is act number 52.
- 30:04Put your hands together for Maddie performing "Piece
- 30:08in My Heart."
- 30:09[CHEERING]
- 30:12[MUSIC - YAMI LEE, "PIECE IN MY HEART"]
- 30:14I wonder if you ever thought of me and how I'm doing.
- 30:27And I wonder if you ever said, gosh, I miss her,
- 30:34and why didn't I fight?
- 30:37And I let you go, but you will always have a little piece
- 30:49in my heart.
- 30:59[CHEERING]
- 31:00Beautiful.
- 31:05Beautiful.
- 31:06I think this is Maddie's best routine she's ever done.
- 31:10I mean ever.
- 31:17Maddie's routine was close to perfection.
- 31:19She went out there and she entertained the audience.
- 31:23[INAUDIBLE] that was really good.
- 31:26Chloe and Paige are up next for their solos.
- 31:29I am really concerned about Paige.
- 31:31Chloe and Paige, we have like 10 more minutes.
- 31:33Let's get it focused here, OK?
- 31:35She did not get a lot of practice time
- 31:37because she keeps complaining that her foot hurts.
- 31:40This is it.
- 31:41It's unfortunate that you're still injured,
- 31:42but you know what?
- 31:43You've got to go out there, and for 2 minutes and 30 seconds,
- 31:46you got to forget about the pain and you have
- 31:47to do what you know how to do.
- 31:48I mean, for this kid just to be coming off of a broken foot,
- 31:51I'm going to be glad to see her on stage doing this routine.
- 31:56You're spotting the floor, that's why you're falling over.
- 31:56Eyes up.
- 31:58Stomach.
- 31:58Stomach.
- 31:59Face.
- 32:01It's gorgeous, except you went like--
- 32:03elongate your arm.
- 32:06Good.
- 32:07Chloe's feeling pretty good about the solo.
- 32:09I think that she knows if she goes out there and nails it,
- 32:12that she really has a good chance
- 32:14of doing a solo at nationals.
- 32:16All right, girls, we need to go.
- 32:17[APPLAUSE]
- 32:22I've rehearsed "Ghost" a lot, and I've
- 32:25gone over what my facial expression should be,
- 32:28so I'm feeling pretty confident.
- 32:29ANNOUNCER: Put your hands together for act number 59,
- 32:31performing "Ghost."
- 32:33[CHEERING]
- 32:38[MUSIC - ALISA SHAMROW, "WISH ORIGINAL"]
- 32:40If you're scared, don't be scared when I'm gone.
- 32:45Don't be afraid to turn off the lights when you leave me.
- 32:52If you're scared, then I'm always around.
- 32:57As your angel, I'll say your prayer when you need me.
- 33:04It is so frustrating to me as a mom
- 33:06that Abby is putting so much pressure on these girls
- 33:08and say, all of my decisions for nationals
- 33:11are based on this one performance.
- 33:12What about the other 673,000 weeks that they've danced?
- 33:15Doesn't that have any weight for you, Abby?
- 33:17[MUSIC CONTINUING]
- 33:26[APPLAUSE]
- 33:33I'm proud for what I did, but I could have done better.
- 33:37So whatever happens happens.
- 33:40I'm really worried about my solo
- 33:42because my foot hurts really bad.
- 33:44But I don't want to mess up because Abby will be really
- 33:47ANNOUNCER: All right, Los Angeles, please welcome Paige,
- 33:48mad at me.
- 33:50performing "City of Angels."
- 33:56Yay.
- 33:57[MUSIC - FIONA KERHAGHAN, "CITY OF ANGELS"]
- 34:06See the yoga bunnies in their SUVs.
- 34:10They got their custom coffee and their inner peace.
- 34:14See the homeless dude sleeping in a box just a feet away,
- 34:20but it never stops.
- 34:21City of Angels, but nobody wants to use their wings.
- 34:30One day I'll fly away.
- 34:33Till then I'll blend in.
- 34:37[VOCALIZING]
- 34:43La-la land.
- 34:47La-la land.
- 34:49[APPLAUSE]
- 34:55ANNOUNCER: Act number 64, "City of Angels."
- 34:59I'm really proud of Paige for going out there and dancing.
- 35:02Even though her doctor's cleared her, she's not 100%.
- 35:05It's going to take a lot of time for Paige to get back
- 35:08where she was, even if that means no dancing at nationals.
- 35:12Don't cry.
- 35:14Oh, Paige, it's fine.
- 35:20You are fine.
- 35:24Don't cry.
- 35:27I think that it's unfair of Abby to make this one
- 35:32week your option if you're dancing at nationals or not.
- 35:41It's OK.
- 35:42It's all right.
- 35:48[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 35:49[APPLAUSE]
- 35:55Brooke, come on.
- 35:57Stretch out.
- 35:58Since nationals is next week, I'm
- 36:00treating these solo performances as if it were an audition.
- 36:03Last one to go is Brooke.
- 36:05The pressure is on.
- 36:07You ready?
- 36:08You need to run it over again?
- 36:11Brooke, you can get out there and you can be gorgeous
- 36:15and everybody's going to leave here talking about the acrobat
- 36:18and how great she was.
- 36:20Or you're going to go out and crash and burn.
- 36:23It's up to you, kid.
- 36:27I'm about to go onstage for "Fly,"
- 36:29and I'm pretty confident, but I'm just kind of
- 36:32scared I'm going to forget it, like Mackenzie.
- 36:35ANNOUNCER: Moving on to number 100, this is a teen solo.
- 36:39Give it up for "Fly."
- 36:41[CHEERING]
- 36:44[MUSIC - ALISA SHAMROW, "FLY"]
- 36:45Look.
- 36:48Look at me across the room.
- 36:51I have been waiting so long.
- 36:54Been so patient for you to bloom.
- 37:01Though, it's not just the things that you say.
- 37:05Somehow you surround me with all that I've wished for,
- 37:11and I'm swept away.
- 37:14I'm hoping one day you might give it a try.
- 37:27Then we can fly.
- 37:34Then we can fly.
- 37:38Woo-hoo.
- 37:39[CHEERING]
- 37:43"Fly" went really good.
- 37:44I hit all my tricks and I didn't forget my dance.
- 37:49What did you like better, Brooke,
- 37:50recording your own song, doing a music video, or dancing?
- 37:55Music video and singing.
- 38:02Ladies and gentlemen, we are ready to begin
- 38:04with our divisional overall.
- 38:08Well, we are going to start off in the elite mini solo
- 38:10division of the competition.
- 38:11Your highest scoring elite mini soloist is Miss Mackenzie,
- 38:16act number 20, "It's a Perfect Day for Fun."
- 38:20[CHEERING]
- 38:21Congratulations to all of our elite mini soloists.
- 38:25I got first place, and I'm really excited.
- 38:28We are now going to be acknowledging our top 10
- 38:30highest scoring elite junior soloists.
- 38:33Sixth place is Miss Chloe with act number 59, "Ghost."
- 38:37[CHEERING]
- 38:40My solo "Ghost" placed sixth.
- 38:42And there were a lot of good girls here,
- 38:43but I could have done better, so I'm just going to try harder
- 38:46next time.
- 38:47Fifth place, with a score of 270.5 points,
- 38:50is it Miss Kendall with act number 31, "Kiss Kiss."
- 38:56Kendall has just beat Chloe.
- 38:58My little girl just beat one of Abby's "bit time" students.
- 39:04This is good.
- 39:05Finally, ladies and gentlemen, your highest scoring elite
- 39:08junior soloist, with a score of 273.7 points,
- 39:13is Miss Maddie with act number 52, "Piece of My Heart."
- 39:19[CHEERING]
- 39:21So Maddie placed first.
- 39:23I was so proud of her.
- 39:25She learned her dance in one day,
- 39:27and she worked her butt off so she can win.
- 39:30Congratulations to our elite junior soloists.
- 39:33I'm very disappointed because I knew I could always
- 39:36do better, and next time I'll make sure that I do better.
- 39:40Maddie beat Chloe.
- 39:41So did Kendall.
- 39:42And I have known Abby long enough
- 39:44to know that she may hold sixth place against Chloe
- 39:47and not give her a solo for nationals.
- 39:49Ladies and gentlemen, we are going
- 39:51to start with our elite team of the solo division
- 39:53of the competition.
- 39:54Fourth place, with a score of 271.2 points,
- 39:59Miss Brooke with act number 301.
- 40:04I placed fourth for "Fly," but I think Abby will still
- 40:07be proud of me because she saw how amazing the dancers were.
- 40:12So I think she'll be happy with fourth.
- 40:14I'm really concerned about nationals
- 40:16because Paige went on stage and she didn't place
- 40:19and Brooke got fourth.
- 40:22So my kids really don't have a good chance
- 40:26of performing at nationals.
- 40:27I think, all things considered,
- 40:29I'm glad that we were in the top five, and I always am.
- 40:32I just want that clean sweep.
- 40:33I want to walk into a competition
- 40:35and walk out winning everything.
- 40:37Melissa, I guess it was your lucky day.
- 40:38Both of your kids were the overall highest winners.
- 40:40You're doing something right.
- 40:42Girls, this was a test for nationals.
- 40:45And I said, it doesn't matter really what the judges think.
- 40:49It's what I think.
- 40:50Who grew?
- 40:51Who learned?
- 40:52This competition, ladies, was to see what
- 40:54we're going to do at nationals.
