  1. 0:01Vivi-Anne, you're going to do a solo in the competition this
  2. 0:03weekend.
  3. 0:04Vivi was uncomfortable with the solo that we worked on,
  4. 0:07so we are going to go ahead and do a piece that she already
  5. 0:10knows.
  6. 0:12Brooke's hip has been bothering her,
  7. 0:13so I decided to take her to a chiropractor.
  8. 0:15I really don't think that it's a good thing for her
  9. 0:18to be competing this week.
  10. 0:19We have to.
  11. 0:20Why are you crying now?
  12. 0:21ABBY LEE MILLER (VOICEOVER): Coming up on "Dance Moms."
  13. 0:23Since we're in Pittsburgh this weekend,
  14. 0:24I'm going to give every single one of you a solo.
  15. 0:26Did you know Maddie's doing two solos?
  16. 0:28She has double the chance of winning.
  17. 0:29KELLY: Maddie had a lot of practice, but not all of us
  18. 0:32have private lesson time slots.
  19. 0:33That has happened to me in 25 years.
  20. 0:36It's humiliating.
  21. 0:37CHRISTI: I am so fed up with the BS.
  22. 0:38- Get out of here now. - Let's go.
  23. 0:40[arguing]
  24. 0:40She is holding a national title
  25. 0:42and I will take it away in a minute.
  26. 0:43That [bleep] bitch.
  27. 0:45[MUSIC - NIKKO LOWE, "LIVING ON THE DANCE FLOOR"]
  28. 0:47Get up.
  29. 0:48Get on the floor.
  30. 0:51My world is with my girls living on the dance floor.
  31. 1:01Let's talk about Starbound Competition.
  32. 1:04Can we have round of applause?
  33. 1:06Whoo-hoo.
  34. 1:06[applause]
  35. 1:08OK, so Brooke, you blew them away.
  36. 1:11The people sitting around me were in awe
  37. 1:15when you did your handstand twist.
  38. 1:17[cheering]
  39. 1:20But why all the drama with the hip?
  40. 1:24If you are seriously injured, you
  41. 1:26don't need to go to your mother and get everybody worked up.
  42. 1:29You come to me, and that needs to be clear, yes?
  43. 1:32Abby's comment about Brooke crying about her,
  44. 1:35had been complaining that it hurt, I thought was crazy.
  45. 1:38If Brooke's hurt, she should come to me.
  46. 1:39If she didn't complain about it and we didn't put ice and stuff
  47. 1:42on it, she probably wouldn't have
  48. 1:44been able to perform the dance.
  49. 1:46I want to talk about this week's competition.
  50. 1:49This week's competition is Onstage
  51. 1:52New York, right here in our hometown,
  52. 1:54Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
  53. 1:56This is one competition where we cannot have anything go wrong.
  54. 2:03All of my peers will be here.
  55. 2:05All of my competitors will be here.
  56. 2:08All of my enemies will be here.
  57. 2:11Do you see there's somebody new on top?
  58. 2:13Yes.
  59. 2:14Brooke, you are here because of your performance.
  60. 2:16You worked through an injury. You did what you had to do.
  61. 2:19You were a team player.
  62. 2:20It feels good to be on top of the pyramid,
  63. 2:21but I don't really care.
  64. 2:23It doesn't matter to me whether I'm on the bottom or the top.
  65. 2:26You are getting a solo this weekend.
  66. 2:29All right, Chloe, Maddie, you are also getting solos
  67. 2:32this weekend.
  68. 2:34The bottom row, what am I supposed to do with you four?
  69. 2:36You need to step it up.
  70. 2:38You need to get your butts back in the class
  71. 2:40and start working on your technique.
  72. 2:41And you know what?
  73. 2:42Since we're in Pittsburgh this weekend,
  74. 2:44I'm going to give every single one of you a.
  75. 2:46Solo
  76. 2:50I wasn't clapping because I knew that we were going
  77. 2:53to have to do the dance.
  78. 2:55She has not mastered that solo yet,
  79. 2:57and I know that Vivi is very uncomfortable
  80. 2:59with new choreography.
  81. 3:01Moms, it's going to be a busy week.
  82. 3:02I expect them to be amazing.
  83. 3:04Do you understand?
  84. 3:05Yes?
  85. 3:05Sit up straight.
  86. 3:07Ladies, let's go.
  87. 3:08Competing locally in Pittsburgh is always important.
  88. 3:11It's a big deal because my name and my reputation
  89. 3:13are on the line.
  90. 3:14So we have a lot of work to do.
  91. 3:18It's like you're dancing out of control a little bit.
  92. 3:21You need to bring it down.
  93. 3:23And if everything's big, then nothing's big.
  94. 3:26This week, each girl has a solo to perform.
  95. 3:29Solos are very difficult because there's nobody to hide behind
  96. 3:33out there on stage.
  97. 3:34It's all about you.
  98. 3:35I love solo work.
  99. 3:37I love the one on one work with the student.
  100. 3:40I think every child grows from doing a solo.
  101. 3:43Watch [inaudible] heel on that jete.
  102. 3:49This week, Maddie is doing two solos, one to the music
  103. 3:52"Cry," which she competed several weeks ago,
  104. 3:55and the other is a new tap routine.
  105. 4:01I love having a solo, and I think I do the best when I'm
  106. 4:04dancing alone.
  107. 4:06I'm going to put the music on and I
  108. 4:08want to see you do it, OK?
  109. 4:14Stick your butt out.
  110. 4:17Push hard.
  111. 4:18Kick it up.
  112. 4:19Get it up.
  113. 4:20I am not happy with Vivi doing this "Bumblebee" dance
  114. 4:23this week.
  115. 4:24So being a dance teacher, I just kind of took it upon myself
  116. 4:26to say, hey, let's get together in a little room
  117. 4:28and let's rehearse the dance.
  118. 4:30But she doesn't want to jump on to a new dance.
  119. 4:41All right, don't be upset.
  120. 4:42Don't be upset.
  121. 4:45OK, don't be upset.
  122. 4:47All right, let's do it again.
  123. 4:52Up to your shoulders.
  124. 4:55More turn onto the passe.
  125. 4:56Easy.
  126. 4:57Do that again.
  127. 4:58Stand up.
  128. 4:59Paige's solos is primarily jazz with a few gymnastic tumbling
  129. 5:02passes.
  130. 5:04Those are good feet. Good.
  131. 5:05This is my first time doing a solo,
  132. 5:07and I'm really scared 'cause I'm going to be out on stage all
  133. 5:10by myself.
  134. 5:11Get in forced arch.
  135. 5:14Good girl.
  136. 5:15It's scarier when you're alone because if you mess up
  137. 5:18on stage, you don't really have anyone to look at or anything.
  138. 5:23Come on.
  139. 5:24Jete.
  140. 5:25Point your feet.
  141. 5:26Legs together.
  142. 5:27Posture.
  143. 5:32Iced tea, no lemon.
  144. 5:34And this one a regular Pepsi.
  145. 5:36That's me.
  146. 5:37[inaudible] is a place that we can go and just kind of get out
  147. 5:40of that dance jail.
  148. 5:42This time, we invited Cathy to come along
  149. 5:44because she's new to the group and we wanted to feel like we
  150. 5:46were including her and things.
  151. 5:48So what did you guys think of the competition this weekend?
  152. 5:50It was far away, too far away.
  153. 5:52I mean, we sat there.
  154. 5:53At least we got to go home.
  155. 5:54You're right, I did.
  156. 5:56All right, guys, we will see you later.
  157. 5:57Are you leaving?
  158. 5:58Yeah.
  159. 5:59[interposing voices]
  160. 6:00We all came here early to watch her.
  161. 6:04Yeah, that wasn't fair.
  162. 6:06Well, you know what?
  163. 6:07This is how I feel about that, ladies.
  164. 6:08We're in this for a different reason
  165. 6:11and we don't need to have a jury section,
  166. 6:13and we probably will be leaving at the competitions.
  167. 6:16I'm sorry.
  168. 6:17That's upsetting for us because I
  169. 6:19think we all care about the kids and those dancers.
  170. 6:23And if you don't want us to be cheerleaders, that's fine,
  171. 6:25but I like supporting the other kids.
  172. 6:27When you say "I like that," that's you're like.
  173. 6:30It's not my like.
  174. 6:32I don't want to be a part of the team.
  175. 6:34I don't want to have to be a cheerleader.
  176. 6:36When Vivi's done dancing, I want to go home and go
  177. 6:39about my business.
  178. 6:40You know, I'm looking at the clock when I'm sitting there
  179. 6:43and I'm thinking of all of the things
  180. 6:45that I could be doing-- shopping, even.
  181. 6:47This is just not working well with me.
  182. 6:50I like you guys, but I don't want to be your cheerleaders.
  183. 6:55Oh my god, are you driving?
  184. 7:00ABBY LEE MILLER: Contestant number blank, Brooke.
  185. 7:04Brooke is sticking to her forte.
  186. 7:06She will be doing a contortion acrobatic routine.
  187. 7:10Cool.
  188. 7:11Straight knee, front.
  189. 7:12Breathe.
  190. 7:14I like to dance, but I like to hang out
  191. 7:16with my friends more, and boys.
  192. 7:23Nia, what's going on with your legs?
  193. 7:26Oh, yes, I'm brutally honest.
  194. 7:28I have to be.
  195. 7:29That leg, yes?
  196. 7:30Do it again.
  197. 7:31That final product onstage is what all the hours of training
  198. 7:35are about.
  199. 7:36This is my job.
  200. 7:38This is what I do.
  201. 7:40I don't know why you're leaning in the heels, but go ahead.
  202. 7:42Abby pushes us to work harder every single day that we see
  203. 7:46her.
  204. 7:47Why are you so sloppy?
  205. 7:48Why is that foot hanging on the ground?
  206. 7:50Come on.
  207. 7:51Well, she always helps me, because with her reminding me
  208. 7:54to straighten my legs, one day I'm
  209. 7:56going to be a star like that.
  210. 7:58ABBY LEE MILLER: Jump.
  211. 8:00Smile, bigger.
  212. 8:02Wiggle.
  213. 8:03Move to the back.
  214. 8:05Come on, think.
  215. 8:06People think I'm tough.
  216. 8:07They think I'm mean.
  217. 8:09But I worry about these kids like they're my own children.
  218. 8:16What are you doing?
  219. 8:21What?
  220. 8:22You forgot?
  221. 8:23But you have to keep going.
  222. 8:24You can't just quit dancing.
  223. 8:27All right, start again.
  224. 8:28Suck it up.
  225. 8:29I don't want to see those tears.
  226. 8:30I love dancing, but I don't want to go on Broadway.
  227. 8:34All I want to do is stay home and eat chips.
  228. 8:40ABBY LEE MILLER: Back leg higher.
  229. 8:42Turn it out.
  230. 8:43Slow down.
  231. 8:48You know, I appreciate all of the camaraderie and everything,
  232. 8:51but I'm going to tell you point blank.
  233. 8:52I think the different system-- and this is probably going
  234. 8:54to offend you, Christi-- but I think the difference system--
  235. 8:57I am Abby's colleague, no matter how you slice and dice it.
  236. 9:00I'm her colleague.
  237. 9:01You are a dance mom.
  238. 9:03I'm fine with Cathy's feelings and how she feels
  239. 9:05about her studio and the moms.
  240. 9:07I think she's really a sweet person
  241. 9:08and she was just being honest.
  242. 9:10Abby's making a ton of money off of me, ladies.
  243. 9:12She's making a ton of money off of all of us.
  244. 9:15Well, she's making a lot more off of me because I'm probably
  245. 9:18getting charged double.
  246. 9:20I think Cathy's crazy.
  247. 9:22After the things she said today, she
  248. 9:23needs to take her butt back to Ohio where she came from.
  249. 9:27We're just on a different page,
  250. 9:28Vivi and I. We're part of the group,
  251. 9:31but we're not part of the group.
  252. 9:33I have to be true to myself and I have to be true to the people
  253. 9:36that I'm around.
  254. 9:37You either like me or you don't like me, I guess,
  255. 9:39and I don't really care if these moms like me or not.
  256. 9:41I like all of you, but we are not
  257. 9:44in it for all of that cheerleading.
  258. 9:49I love your necklace.
  259. 9:58[music playing]
  260. 9:58Hi, guys.
  261. 9:59Hi, honey, how are you?
  262. 10:01OK, Maddie.
  263. 10:02Hello.
  264. 10:03How's everything going?
  265. 10:13I have a new solo this week and it's called "Mother."
  266. 10:21ABBY LEE MILLER: You OK, honey?
  267. 10:23Yeah.
  268. 10:24I think my biggest competition is probably Maddie
  269. 10:27because she's a very good dancer.
  270. 10:29People have told me that I'm a good dancer.
  271. 10:32Shouldering, shouldering.
  272. 10:33More [french].
  273. 10:36Maddie gets two solos because she takes
  274. 10:38a standing private lesson in tap, all year from September
  275. 10:41to June, once a week, and there's where
  276. 10:44she learns her tap routine.
  277. 10:45Then her other solo is just like all the other kids.
  278. 10:48More eye contact with the judges.
  279. 10:51Get in their face, Maddie.
  280. 10:55I'll go look for another bow for you.
  281. 10:57Did you know Maddie's doing two solos?
  282. 11:00No.
  283. 11:01Melissa just sat here and said that Maddie is doing two solos
  284. 11:04this weekend.
  285. 11:05Whose idea was that, hers or Abby's?
  286. 11:07They probably got together over, you know, lunch
  287. 11:09and talked about it.
  288. 11:11No one has a chance in hell of winning against Maddie.
  289. 11:13She's doing two solos.
  290. 11:15She has double the chance of winning against anyone else.
  291. 11:17I can't even get rehearsal time for one.
  292. 11:18You know, I haven't even heard my kid's music yet.
  293. 11:20How do you practice your dance without music?
  294. 11:22Well, Melissa's in charge of music.
  295. 11:24Isn't that ironic?
  296. 11:26She always finds a way to get an edge, always.
  297. 11:30It's solos week.
  298. 11:32Everybody should have one solo.
  299. 11:33I am so aggravated.
  300. 11:37Hi, girl.
  301. 11:38Hello.
  302. 11:39Everybody was so mad because I wasn't on the bus.
  303. 11:42I mean, I'm fine with it.
  304. 11:44My daughter just like to be with her friends.
  305. 11:46OK, Vivi, I need you for rehearsal.
  306. 11:48Let's go, sweetheart.
  307. 11:49I went into the den to see who was next for rehearsal
  308. 11:53and there was Vivi-Anne, no mom.
  309. 11:55I would so love for us to do something.
  310. 11:57- You would love my girlfriends. - Yeah.
  311. 11:59Come on over here.
  312. 12:00Last week, Cathy went behind my back.
  313. 12:03She let Vivi do an old routine that she had known.
  314. 12:06That's not the point.
  315. 12:07That's not how we're learning to pick up quickly.
  316. 12:10So this week, I made sure I pulled that kid out
  317. 12:13of the dressing room, I put that bumblebee costume on her.
  318. 12:15I had her run that routine over and over
  319. 12:18and over so that that mother could not change it.
  320. 12:22Oh, that fits you beautifully.
  321. 12:24I don't like makeup and costumes.
  322. 12:27[music playing]
  323. 12:28Tastes so sweet from head to feet.
  324. 12:30You now that's something that can't be beat.
  325. 12:32- I'll let you get back to work. - OK, thank you.
  326. 12:34Bye.
  327. 12:37Sashay.
  328. 12:37Sauté.
  329. 12:39Oh, what do we have on?
  330. 12:40ABBY LEE MILLER: Point, point.
  331. 12:42If she is insistent that Vivi have
  332. 12:44to do this "Bumblebee" dance, I will certainly reimburse her
  333. 12:47for her time and we may not even be at the competition.
  334. 12:52Do you want to see?
  335. 12:53I would love to see.
  336. 12:54It's your time to show mom that you can do this.
  337. 12:56She doesn't have any faith in you.
  338. 12:58Cathy underestimates Vivi-Anne.
  339. 13:00She does not push her.
  340. 13:02I think owning a studio, she does not
  341. 13:04want it to be all about her daughter.
  342. 13:06She does not want to lose customers.
  343. 13:07But in the process, the child isn't where she should be,
  344. 13:12technically, and that's why she's bringing her to me.
  345. 13:15And that's my job and that's what I'm going to do.
  346. 13:17She just needs to butt out.
  347. 13:20Good girl.
  348. 13:24Oh, ye of little faith.
  349. 13:26The situation with Cathy is very bizarre.
  350. 13:29Cathy really wants nothing to do with the ALDC team.
  351. 13:32She really doesn't.
  352. 13:33I need you to be a role model.
  353. 13:35You're a dance teacher.
  354. 13:37You know how important it is to get these mothers to do--
  355. 13:39Abby, I cannot ride a bus, if this is where this is going.
  356. 13:42The attitude that I'm too good for the bu,
  357. 13:44no, that has to stop.
  358. 13:46I can't do these field trips, I'm sorry.
  359. 13:48That's part of the team. You want her to be--
  360. 13:50- I can't. - Then let her go by herself.
  361. 13:52- OK. - That's fine.
  362. 13:53OK.
  363. 13:54Vivi comes with me, that's fine.
  364. 13:55Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
  365. 13:57We're not going to do that either.
  366. 13:58I don't like not being in control.
  367. 14:00I'm being told what I have to do, where I have to go,
  368. 14:03and this is just not sitting well with me.
  369. 14:04But we want to arrive together as a team.
  370. 14:07Why do we have to do that? Are we part of the Olympics?
  371. 14:11Cathy, why are you here?
  372. 14:13You're here to be part of the Abby Lee Dance Company,
  373. 14:15but you don't want to play the game.
  374. 14:17I know, I don't.
  375. 14:18This is how I feel, Abby.
  376. 14:19They should be focused on themselves
  377. 14:22and we'll be focused on ourselves.
  378. 14:24I know, but that's selfish and I'm not trying
  379. 14:26to raise selfish children.
  380. 14:27We live in America.
  381. 14:29I feel like I'm in jail that I have to jump on a bus
  382. 14:31and ride with everybody like I'm an elementary student.
  383. 14:34I set my rules.
  384. 14:35If you don't like them, go somewhere else.
  385. 14:38I don't care.
  386. 14:39We're doing your solo this week.
  387. 14:40I'm very pleased with what I saw.
  388. 14:41The costume is just as hideous as I thought it was.
  389. 14:44Sorry. - Why would you say that to me?
  390. 14:46Sorry.
  391. 14:47Why would I create a hideous costume?
  392. 14:47I'm sorry.
  393. 14:48OK, I got to go.
  394. 14:49So we're going to get the address
  395. 14:51to meet you at the venue this weekend and all is good.
  396. 14:54You're going to go look up the address.
  397. 14:56- OK. - And we'll meet you.
  398. 15:02Well, go ahead.
  399. 15:03You guys can start eating.
  400. 15:04I know everybody's starving.
  401. 15:06I decided to have all the moms over for lunch
  402. 15:08because I thought that it was important that we come together
  403. 15:11as a group and talk about Cathy and what her intentions were
  404. 15:15at our studio.
  405. 15:16All right, girls, I asked you to come over here because I think
  406. 15:19we need to talk about Cathy.
  407. 15:21If she's going to benefit from being a member of the team,
  408. 15:25then she needs to get her ass on the bus.
  409. 15:27She needs to stay and support my kid at 9 o'clock at night.
  410. 15:31All the kids.
  411. 15:32If we have to abide by Abby's rules,
  412. 15:33everyone has to abide by Abby's rules.
  413. 15:35Because if you start making exceptions to the rules,
  414. 15:37then why have rules?
  415. 15:39Exactly.
  416. 15:40I understood the concern of the other mothers.
  417. 15:42I kind of feel caught in the middle
  418. 15:43because I really like Cathy a lot.
  419. 15:45I guess the other issue is to level the playing field.
  420. 15:48Would you be willing to pull one of Maddie's solos?
  421. 15:51I don't know about that.
  422. 15:52I have to talk to Maddie about that.
  423. 15:54Christi asked me to pull one of Maddie's solos.
  424. 15:57I thought it was very inappropriate.
  425. 15:58Maddie gets two solos because she has a tap private, so she
  426. 16:01has a tap solo every year and then Abby just gives her
  427. 16:05an extra solo.
  428. 16:06I don't see why wouldn't be fair for my daughter doing two
  429. 16:08solos.
  430. 16:09I don't think I would do that because I don't think you
  431. 16:11guys would do that.
  432. 16:12I did do it.
  433. 16:13This year?
  434. 16:14Yes, I did.
  435. 16:15I did it at DEA.
  436. 16:16I could have had Chloe compete and didn't.
  437. 16:18Why not?
  438. 16:19Because Paige and Nia deserved a chance to shine.
  439. 16:23I have to think about that.
  440. 16:24I have to talk to my daughter about that.
  441. 16:25What would be your reasons for not doing it?
  442. 16:27Because I'm not going to hurt my daughter.
  443. 16:28Maddie, by far, is one of the strongest dancers.
  444. 16:31There's no question about that.
  445. 16:33There's no need for her to have two solos to prove that she's
  446. 16:35a really strong dancer.
  447. 16:37We know that.
  448. 16:38If you looked at it from our perspective,
  449. 16:40you would be upset if Chloe were doing two solos
  450. 16:42and Maddie only had a chance to do one.
  451. 16:44I would not.
  452. 16:45If another mom had their child in two solos,
  453. 16:48I would never go to that mom and ask them to pull
  454. 16:50one of their daughter's solos.
  455. 16:51It's really none of my business what their daughter is doing.
  456. 16:54I have to worry about my children, not their children.
  457. 16:57It's coming very cutthroat and I don't
  458. 16:59think it needs to be that way.
  459. 17:01I don't want to discuss it.
  460. 17:10[music playing]
  461. 17:14We've only got one day left to get all these numbers together
  462. 17:18for Onstage.
  463. 17:19The girls are ready.
  464. 17:20I have complete faith in them.
  465. 17:23I would never send them out on stage if they weren't ready.
  466. 17:33Hello, how are you?
  467. 17:35How are you?
  468. 17:36Ready for another day.
  469. 17:38I'm cutting your music.
  470. 17:39Dance is so expensive, so I do work for Abby at the studio.
  471. 17:42I do the costumes, the music.
  472. 17:44I work at the desk.
  473. 17:45Hi, girls.
  474. 17:46Hello.
  475. 17:47I have your music.
  476. 17:48The pages I can't seem to get.
  477. 17:49Music.
  478. 17:50Where's my music?
  479. 17:51Music's always getting lost at the studio.
  480. 17:54I mean, I don't have music yet.
  481. 17:55Every day this week I checked in to see if Paige's music was
  482. 17:58cut.
  483. 17:59It was the night before the competition
  484. 18:02and Paige still hadn't heard the music.
  485. 18:04All right, well if Abby comes out at all,
  486. 18:06can you just tell her that I need to talk to her?
  487. 18:09Yes.
  488. 18:09Go.
  489. 18:10Good, Nic.
  490. 18:13Push.
  491. 18:14When we don't have music to rehearse to,
  492. 18:15we have to use counts, like 5, 6, 7, 8.
  493. 18:18But it's not as fun when we don't have music.
  494. 18:21Now we're doing acro?
  495. 18:23Yes, can you believe it?
  496. 18:25We are supposed to be competing new solos,
  497. 18:28and she needs to get these kids who are dancing this weekend
  498. 18:31to rehearse their solos.
  499. 18:32It's 7:30.
  500. 18:33I know.
  501. 18:34It's the night before our competition.
  502. 18:36Ooh, that was scary, Kennedy.
  503. 18:38Straighten your legs.
  504. 18:40I'm in the middle of teaching an acrobatic class.
  505. 18:42The mothers were not confident in their children, which
  506. 18:45saddens me.
  507. 18:46I have more faith in their kids than they do.
  508. 18:47They want that kid to practice, practice, practice
  509. 18:49on their solos that they're going to get on stage
  510. 18:52and do for two minutes and 30 seconds
  511. 18:54instead of learning how to dance.
  512. 18:57Then they could learn a combination like that
  513. 18:59and then get on stage and perform it.
  514. 19:01So obviously, she's not going to perform very well when she's
  515. 19:04the youngest age in the category and she has no music.
  516. 19:07And she hasn't had any super secret privates.
  517. 19:09Exactly.
  518. 19:11I absolutely think that Maddie got more time than anybody.
  519. 19:14She got those extra rehearsal times in there.
  520. 19:16Good.
  521. 19:17I work really hard, and that sometimes makes me tired,
  522. 19:20but that doesn't stop me from dancing.
  523. 19:22When are we going to start running dances and get started?
  524. 19:25Get that weight into your left shoulder.
  525. 19:27I think everybody's ready to do their solos.
  526. 19:29Paige does not have her music, but her solo looks great.
  527. 19:32You know what, guys?
  528. 19:33This is ridiculous.
  529. 19:35I'm going down and getting Paige and telling
  530. 19:37her to run her solo.
  531. 19:40Good.
  532. 19:41And then pull Brooke in after, and then put Nia in,
  533. 19:43and I'll bring up the rear.
  534. 19:44I like that attitude.
  535. 19:45Ridiculous.
  536. 19:48Melissa, can I have Paige's music?
  537. 19:50It's downloading.
  538. 19:51It's been downloading for 14 minutes.
  539. 19:52I mean, Paige is 10.
  540. 19:54She needs to run her dance to her music.
  541. 19:57And it was Friday night, 8 o'clock,
  542. 20:00and I still had no music for Paige,
  543. 20:02and we were competing the next morning.
  544. 20:03This wireless is so slow.
  545. 20:05Still three minutes.
  546. 20:06God.
  547. 20:07Everything is always so last minute.
  548. 20:09She's teaching acro.
  549. 20:12And since when do we do a five-hour acro class the night
  550. 20:14before competition?
  551. 20:15Hiding in there doing an acro class.
  552. 20:17Who's hiding?
  553. 20:19Abby, because she knows that our kids need to rehearse.
  554. 20:21My daughter rehearsed with her private today with Matt.
  555. 20:24But at least she got to rehearse.
  556. 20:25Well, I have a standing private every week, so.
  557. 20:28I'm still waiting for Paige's music.
  558. 20:30You guys don't realize what I do for your kids.
  559. 20:32I mean, I work.
  560. 20:33No one's saying you don't do for the kids,
  561. 20:35but we also know that there are things that our kids don't
  562. 20:38benefit from, either.
  563. 20:39Because I mean, just throwing the cards on the table.
  564. 20:41Typically, when there's a conflict or a confrontation,
  565. 20:44Melissa has a tendency to deflect.
  566. 20:46Melissa always has something else
  567. 20:49that she's willing to talk about that's not the topic that she
  568. 20:52wants to talk about.
  569. 20:53And when we go to competitions,
  570. 20:55Gianna is like your own personal helper.
  571. 20:57But she would do anything for any of the kids
  572. 20:59because she loves the girls. - But she doesn't.
  573. 21:00She only does it for Maddie.
  574. 21:01The point is we need our kids out of that room and in B,
  575. 21:05running their dances.
  576. 21:06Please.
  577. 21:07I just feel that the moms don't like me because my daughter is
  578. 21:11a great dancer and they kind of hold that against me.
  579. 21:14They don't realize what I do behind the scenes.
  580. 21:17If they didn't have me at the studio,
  581. 21:18things wouldn't get done.
  582. 21:19It's just how they are.
  583. 21:21They're just little bitches.
  584. 21:23Her music's ready.
  585. 21:26I'm so sick of this.
  586. 21:28I'm sick of them saying, oh, it's all about Maddie.
  587. 21:29It's all about Maddie. - What's--
  588. 21:31Maddie's in class.
  589. 21:32They all want to learn their solos.
  590. 21:33No.
  591. 21:34I work my ass off for these mothers
  592. 21:35and all they do is bitch at me.
  593. 21:37This is it for me.
  594. 21:38I'm sick of them.
  595. 21:40These mothers are going to be the death of me.
  596. 21:43I run their daughter's numbers between classes.
  597. 21:45They just need to trust me and let me do my job.
  598. 21:47Are they going to be able to continue running their solos
  599. 21:50with you, Abby?
  600. 21:51Maddie had a half hour private with Matt [inaudible],,
  601. 21:54her tap teacher today.
  602. 21:56Chloe came in today.
  603. 21:58Emma worked with her.
  604. 21:59But she's learning a whole new dance.
  605. 22:01All the moms are like in a tizzy
  606. 22:03because they don't have their solo rehearsal time.
  607. 22:05They don't have the right solo music.
  608. 22:08Chloe learned a new routine, and her mother's, oh my god.
  609. 22:10She's the only one that has a new routine, new routine.
  610. 22:13BS.
  611. 22:14There's no way that because she ran it twice to new music
  612. 22:18that she's going to be able to compete on Saturday.
  613. 22:21I'm worried about that.
  614. 22:22Everybody in town is going to this particular competition,
  615. 22:26so I want my best foot forward.
  616. 22:28They need to have faith in their daughters
  617. 22:30and faith in my training.
  618. 22:32I didn't just fall off the turnip truck, you know.
  619. 22:34I've been doing this for 25 years.
  620. 22:36Is this preparation for an audition?
  621. 22:38Yes.
  622. 22:38Is this good for all of them?
  623. 22:40Absolutely.
  624. 22:42All right.
  625. 22:47Still not rehearsing.
  626. 22:56Come on, girls, let's go.
  627. 22:58It's competition day and we're going to the local competition
  628. 23:01called Onstage New York. Where's Kenz?
  629. 23:03Hi, Brookie.
  630. 23:03These are important because the more
  631. 23:05of these local competitions Abby's kids win,
  632. 23:07the better for her because she might get more kids from this.
  633. 23:10Come on, get a seat.
  634. 23:12The judges of Onstage New York are tough.
  635. 23:15They are going to be looking at choreography, technique,
  636. 23:18precision, performance, and then costume.
  637. 23:22I think all of us moms are in agreement that we are not
  638. 23:25prepared for this competition.
  639. 23:26Maddie had a lot of practice because she has scheduled
  640. 23:29privates every week, but not all of us
  641. 23:32have private lesson time slots.
  642. 23:34ABBY LEE MILLER: Nia.
  643. 23:35NIA: Here.
  644. 23:37Mackenzie.
  645. 23:37MACKENZIE: Here.
  646. 23:38Maddie.
  647. 23:39MADDIE: Here.
  648. 23:40Vivi-Anne.
  649. 23:41DANCER: Not here.
  650. 23:45The mothers want me to be part of the team
  651. 23:47by riding with them on the bus.
  652. 23:49I'm sorry, I guess I'm going to have to be a rebel on this one.
  653. 23:52I don't ride buses.
  654. 23:54Here we go, girls. Hold your breath.
  655. 23:55Arms up.
  656. 24:04[music playing]
  657. 24:13Yeah, your packet and there's a program inside.
  658. 24:19Hi.
  659. 24:20Let's go.
  660. 24:21We're all here.
  661. 24:24Girls, break a leg.
  662. 24:25Please make me proud out there, all righty?
  663. 24:28I'm really pissed.
  664. 24:29This competition was setup from the get go that it wasn't going
  665. 24:33to be a fair fight.
  666. 24:34Abby entering Maddie's two solos in the competition this week
  667. 24:37makes perfect sense to me.
  668. 24:38Abby keeps saying we're in her own backyard.
  669. 24:40She has a reputation to protect.
  670. 24:41She wants everybody to do well.
  671. 24:43Abby only cares if Maddie does well because if Maddie wins
  672. 24:45the overalls, Abby looks good.
  673. 24:48I don't see why wouldn't be fair for my daughter doing two
  674. 24:50solos, and it's really none of the other moms' business
  675. 24:53what my daughter is doing.
  676. 24:54[cheering]
  677. 24:57ANNOUNCER: [inaudible] solo.
  678. 24:59Please welcome Maddie with "Acapella."
  679. 25:02[cheering]
  680. 25:05[MUSIC - THE
  681. 25:06KINGMAKERS, "ROCKABILLY GIRLS"]
  682. 25:09Got big, black boots and legs up to there,
  683. 25:12a dozen tattoos and slicked back hair.
  684. 25:14You dance with all the rockabilly cats.
  685. 25:18You know, pretty baby, I like it like that.
  686. 25:20Come on over so I can see.
  687. 25:23What I'm best at is tap and lyrical.
  688. 25:26And I've won a lot of awards for my solos
  689. 25:29that are tap and lyrical, and this is my first year doing
  690. 25:32a lyrical dance.
  691. 25:33And last year I did a jazz dance,
  692. 25:35but I never went for a title for that.
  693. 25:38Rockabilly girl, you rule my rockabilly world.
  694. 25:44[applause]
  695. 25:48I was very impressed with Maddie.
  696. 25:49Her taps were clear as a bell.
  697. 25:51Beautiful performance.
  698. 25:52ANNOUNCER: Next up we have advanced prep acro gymnastics
  699. 25:54solo.
  700. 25:55Please welcome Mackenzie with "Kids Dance."
  701. 26:00[MUSIC - SABRINA LENTINI, "ONE CHANCE"]
  702. 26:04I'm a mouse.
  703. 26:06I have a really long tail and it gets in the way
  704. 26:09sometimes when I do some tricks.
  705. 26:11Once chance to rule with words.
  706. 26:14Make a change, your voice is heard.
  707. 26:18If it's something you really want, don't give up.
  708. 26:22Keep pushing on.
  709. 26:24You can reach from the mountaintops
  710. 26:27or you can reach straight for the stars.
  711. 26:34[applause]
  712. 26:39You were so good.
  713. 26:41I'm so proud of you.
  714. 26:42I can tumble forever.
  715. 26:43I love it.
  716. 26:46I know, I heard.
  717. 26:49Vivi's solo is coming up and I'm extremely nervous.
  718. 26:53I want to see her do a good job, and I'm also excited for her
  719. 26:56because she looks as adorable as a honeybee can possibly look.
  720. 27:01ANNOUNCER: Say hello to Vivi-Anne with "Bumblebee."
  721. 27:04[MUSIC - THE KINGMAKERS, "HONEY BEE"]
  722. 27:06Tastes so sweet from the head to feet.
  723. 27:08You know that's something that can't be beat.
  724. 27:11No word of a lie so don't even try.
  725. 27:15Ain't no honey sweeter than my honeybee.
  726. 27:19Can't you see?
  727. 27:21Choreographically, I challenged Vivi-Anne.
  728. 27:24I taught her new steps, new acrobatic tricks that really
  729. 27:27jacked up the level of difficulty in the routine.
  730. 27:30Ain't no honey sweeter than my honeybee.
  731. 27:35Yeah, there ain't no honey sweeter than my honeybee.
  732. 27:44[inaudible] You know you danced about eight counts ahead
  733. 27:50of the music?
  734. 27:53Huh?
  735. 27:55You fell?
  736. 27:56You slipped?
  737. 27:57Well, I don't know, honey.
  738. 28:01I'm not pleased with what you did, you know that?
  739. 28:04And I don't think that Abby's going to be, either.
  740. 28:06So we're going to have to practice.
  741. 28:08Listen.
  742. 28:09Look at me when I talk to you.
  743. 28:10We're going to have to go back home, go back to the dance
  744. 28:13studio and practice.
  745. 28:14We're not here practicing.
  746. 28:15We're going to have to go back home.
  747. 28:16My mom wants me to dance even more than I want to.
  748. 28:19You know what?
  749. 28:20We'll get it, OK?
  750. 28:21We'll get it.
  751. 28:23I love my mom a lot and I like to dance because it makes
  752. 28:27my mom happy.
  753. 28:28Let's go change.
  754. 28:29All right.
  755. 28:30It's been really difficult for me feeling that we're truly
  756. 28:33a part of this Abby Lee experience
  757. 28:35because no matter how I try to fit in,
  758. 28:38I'm not part of their history.
  759. 28:40[music playing]
  760. 28:47ANNOUNCER: Please welcome Brooke with "Break Me."
  761. 28:52[MUSIC - ALLISON GRAY, "BREAK ME"]
  762. 29:06Oh, you had me from the start.
  763. 29:11With one look you cut right through my heart.
  764. 29:18When I do the chin stands, there
  765. 29:20was a line of tape on the stage where I was supposed to turn,
  766. 29:23and my neck got stuck on the tape
  767. 29:26and it gave me a big brush burn.
  768. 29:28I have scars all over my chin.
  769. 29:30And I am fragile and I am weak.
  770. 29:37And if you wanted to, you could break me.
  771. 29:44[applause]
  772. 29:51I was really nervous about Brooke going on
  773. 29:53and her hip being hurt.
  774. 29:55I wasn't sure how well she'd be able to perform,
  775. 29:57but she did great and pulled it off.
  776. 29:59You know, I was nervous but she knew what she was doing.
  777. 30:05Knowing Nia's just learned the solo,
  778. 30:06and I am not feeling great about this performance at all,
  779. 30:09and I worry she's going to freeze on stage.
  780. 30:12ANNOUNCER: Please welcome Nia with "You Do."
  781. 30:14[applause]
  782. 30:17[MUSIC - ANALOGUE REVOLUTION, "YOU DO"]
  783. 30:19Oh.
  784. 30:20Oh.
  785. 30:23Oh.
  786. 30:25Oh.
  787. 30:26La la la la.
  788. 30:28Such a sudden eruption, a sweet sensation.
  789. 30:35I'm excited for my solo because in the past few weeks,
  790. 30:39I've really improved a lot.
  791. 30:41You do.
  792. 30:42You can't be saved.
  793. 30:46You got my number.
  794. 30:47[applause]
  795. 30:55I forgot part of my solo on stage
  796. 30:57so I kind of made up the rest.
  797. 31:03When I'm backstage, I'm really nervous because I'm scared
  798. 31:06I'm going to forget my dance before I go on,
  799. 31:08and it makes me forget it more if I really get rushed up
  800. 31:12about it.
  801. 31:13For Paige to learn solo and perform it in two days,
  802. 31:16that makes me nervous for her, but hopefully she just goes out
  803. 31:20there, uses her personality, and charms the judges.
  804. 31:24[MUSIC - 21ST CENTURY GIRL, "GEMINI"]
  805. 31:32Bet you're thinking that you know me.
  806. 31:36Make you do a double take.
  807. 31:39Why we are the--
  808. 31:43the way we are is a mystery.
  809. 31:47I am so undercover.
  810. 31:50You can't see the half of me.
  811. 31:55It's time to check this.
  812. 32:02Paige was like a deer in the headlights.
  813. 32:04That hasn't happened to me in 25 years.
  814. 32:07I was sick to my stomach.
  815. 32:09It's humiliating.
  816. 32:20Half of me.
  817. 32:22It's time to check this over.
  818. 32:24I was sick to my stomach.
  819. 32:26That hasn't happened to me in 25 years.
  820. 32:29She was like a deer in the headlights.
  821. 32:31It's humiliating.
  822. 32:35[applause]
  823. 32:36ANNOUNCER: Give her a nice round of applause.
  824. 32:37Make her feel very comfortable.
  825. 32:40There's no excuse.
  826. 32:41You should remain on stage and continue dancing.
  827. 32:45[chatter]
  828. 32:54It was humiliating for me as a teacher, number 1, and number
  829. 32:572, she should be humiliated.
  830. 33:04Don't be sad.
  831. 33:07You looked beautiful for what you did do.
  832. 33:11Yes, you did.
  833. 33:14You were fine.
  834. 33:16Don't worry about it, Paige.
  835. 33:17It's a dance.
  836. 33:18Who cares?
  837. 33:21I know, but it's not your fault
  838. 33:23that it was messed up, right?
  839. 33:27Don't you agree with me?
  840. 33:28You got your music last night at, what, 8:30?
  841. 33:33And went home and went to bed and we're
  842. 33:35expected to rush in here and complete it.
  843. 33:40You want to go home?
  844. 33:42We can't go home.
  845. 33:44Don't cry, Paige.
  846. 34:03Maddie, it's fine.
  847. 34:04Stop putting pins in it.
  848. 34:05It looks ridiculous.
  849. 34:07There's 50 bobby pins in it.
  850. 34:09Let me see.
  851. 34:13She wants everything to be perfect all the time, the kid.
  852. 34:16I can't stand it.
  853. 34:17I got to stay away from her right now.
  854. 34:20I'm kind of nervous.
  855. 34:22There is a little bit more pressure on me
  856. 34:24because I want to win the same thing as Chloe,
  857. 34:27and maybe even more.
  858. 34:33Maddie's on in 3.
  859. 34:34Kenz, come on.
  860. 34:35We've got to go see your sister.
  861. 34:37I am so fed up with the BS.
  862. 34:39Melissa needs to pull Maddie's second solo.
  863. 34:41It's not fair.
  864. 34:43Melissa, Melissa.
  865. 34:46Yeah?
  866. 34:52[applause]
  867. 34:55[inaudible]
  868. 34:56I guess she's letting her dance.
  869. 35:02And I called her and she ignored me.
  870. 35:06No one has a chance in hell of winning against Maddie.
  871. 35:09She has two solos.
  872. 35:10She already has twice as good of a chance as anyone else.
  873. 35:15I'm kind of nervous to make sure I'm on the right timing
  874. 35:18for my music.
  875. 35:19And there's a lot of pressure on me
  876. 35:21because I really want to win first.
  877. 35:23ANNOUNCER: Next up, please welcome Maddie with "Cry."
  878. 35:26[music - alexx calise, "cry"]
  879. 35:27And me, who's so well versed is feeling so damn empty,
  880. 35:33is at a loss for words.
  881. 35:35And I-- I don't want to do anything but cry.
  882. 35:45And I-- I don't want to do anything but cry.
  883. 35:57[applause]
  884. 36:01ANNOUNCER: That's Maddie with "Cry."
  885. 36:04Good job, baby.
  886. 36:06You did great.
  887. 36:07Good job, Maddie.
  888. 36:08You were fabulous.
  889. 36:09Christi's mad because Abby put two solos in for Maddie.
  890. 36:12Maddie does two solos at every single competition we go to,
  891. 36:15and she has for the last two years.
  892. 36:20Right before I go on stage, I get a little bit nervous
  893. 36:23so I do my nut crackle.
  894. 36:26But I just go through the dance really quick
  895. 36:29and then I just go on stage.
  896. 36:31ANNOUNCER: Next up, judges, we have
  897. 36:33an advanced mini lyrical solo.
  898. 36:35Please welcome Chloe with "Mother."
  899. 36:37[music playing]
  900. 37:16I have become my mother.
  901. 37:21And me-- it's me.
  902. 37:25It's me.
  903. 37:28[applause]
  904. 37:31ANNOUNCER: That's Chloe with "Mother."
  905. 37:34I can't even look at Melissa.
  906. 37:36It's always all about her daughter and no one else.
  907. 37:40Our kids count, too.
  908. 37:42Good job, honey.
  909. 37:44I really don't care what Christi thinks.
  910. 37:45She would do anything for her daughter to win.
  911. 37:48I don't do anything for my daughter to win.
  912. 37:50My daughter wins on her own.
  913. 37:52All right, now's it's time to announce our overalls
  914. 37:55for our advanced mini soloists.
  915. 37:56I will announce the top 10 highest scoring
  916. 37:59advanced mini solo entries that we have seen today.

  921. 38:10I don't like to lose, but I don't ever lose anyway.
  922. 38:14And our first place overall top scoring advanced mini solo
  923. 38:19is receiving a $75 check.
  924. 38:21And the trophy is "Cry".
  925. 38:22That's Maddie from Abby Lee Dance Company.
  926. 38:25[applause]
  927. 38:27Congratulations.
  928. 38:27[inaudible] Our top scorers.
  929. 38:29Give a big round of applause.
  930. 38:33Congratulations, you guys.
  931. 38:34Take that big wacky bow.
  932. 38:35Whatever.
  933. 38:39This is not fair.
  934. 38:41Chloe was learning a dance 12 hours ago in the studio,
  935. 38:43and you expect a nine-year-old to go on stage and be flawless?
  936. 38:46Our kids were set up to fail.
  937. 38:49I'm done.
  938. 38:50I don't want to say anything else.
  939. 38:51Whoo-hoo.
  940. 38:54Good job.
  941. 38:55[applause]
  942. 38:56Good job, baby.
  943. 38:58Good job.
  944. 39:02All right, let's go.
  945. 39:03Abby, I think we need to talk.
  946. 39:05No, you're not going to ruin this day.
  947. 39:06No, we need to talk, Abby.
  948. 39:08In the hallway now.
  949. 39:10Are you kidding me?
  950. 39:11I'm a paying client and you won't speak to me.
  951. 39:12No. Nothing's worth that much money.
  952. 39:14I think the worst thing that Christi can do
  953. 39:17is talk about me when her daughter is present.
  954. 39:21I cannot get Chloe to trust me if her mother doesn't trust me
  955. 39:24herself.
  956. 39:25I was so excited.
  957. 39:27You know, we don't want to ruin the [inaudible] victory.
  958. 39:30I'm not ruining today.
  959. 39:32No, Abby, we need to go in the hallway.
  960. 39:34Don't be doing this in front of my daughter, Christi.
  961. 39:37We can all go in the hallway because I tried to talk to you
  962. 39:39and I tried to talk to you personally.
  963. 39:41Why? Why are you doing this?
  964. 39:43- Let's go in the hallway. - I'm not going anywhere.
  965. 39:44My daughter's happy.
  966. 39:45Let's go in the hallway.
  967. 39:46Do you want to talk about all the things
  968. 39:48that need to be talked about?
  969. 39:49Not here, not now.
  970. 39:50Because you won't talk about it and you won't talk about it.
  971. 39:53MELISSA: I won't ever talk to you again.
  972. 39:55[interposing voices]
  973. 39:56You're making my daughter cry, so shut up.
  974. 39:58[inaudible] because my daughter beat your daughter
  975. 40:01this year.
  976. 40:02[bleep]
  977. 40:03We were stacked against everybody this weekend
  978. 40:05because you didn't.
  979. 40:06Get out of here now.
  980. 40:07- Let's go. - Bitch.
  981. 40:09Let's go.
  982. 40:10Your kids feel bad, but it doesn't matter that my daughter
  983. 40:12feels bad.
  984. 40:13Your daughter is holding a national title
  985. 40:15and I will take it away in a minute.
  986. 40:16Go ahead and take it away.
  987. 40:17I'll leave your studio.
  988. 40:19That's fine.
  989. 40:19Where are you going to go?
  990. 40:21I would say the fight between Abby
  991. 40:22and Christi was incredibly embarrassing.
  992. 40:24That could've been handled behind closed doors,
  993. 40:26definitely not in front of children.
  994. 40:28Even with our issues, I try to limit the things
  995. 40:30that I'm saying in front of the kids
  996. 40:32because it makes them feel bad.
  997. 40:33It makes them feel self-conscious and awkward.
  998. 40:35Now, come with me.
  999. 40:37Girls, they are staying with me.
1000. 40:40You are an educated guess.
  1001. 40:42Quit drinking.
1002. 40:45I'm not going on that [bleep] bitch.
  1003. 40:46That [bleep] bitch.
  1004. 40:47Don't cry.
  1005. 40:48Don't cry.
  1006. 40:49I'm telling you.
  1007. 40:50Give me a [inaudible].
  1008. 40:51No, she didn't even do--
1009. 40:53You are out of control.
1010. 40:54I'm [bleep] at your studio.
  1011. 40:57There you go.
  1012. 40:58Then I need to leave.
  1013. 40:59You're done.
  1014. 41:03Congratulations.
  1015. 41:04Thank you, sir.
  1016. 41:06Thank you very much.
1017. 41:10How did I get stuck in this?
  1018. 41:15[music playing]
