  1. 0:00If you're looking into getting the
  2. 0:01MacBook Neo, I can tell you right now
  3. 0:03that it is the perfect computer for most
  4. 0:05people. And that includes students,
  5. 0:07office workers, any professional in the
  6. 0:09field, this thing is just right for
  7. 0:11meeting your needs. I used to work as an
  8. 0:12Apple Store manager in a university
  9. 0:14setting for over 10 years and I helped
  10. 0:16all kinds of students, parents, and
  11. 0:18faculty pick out a Mac. And I wish
  12. 0:20MacBook Neo came out years ago. It
  13. 0:22really was the computer that was missing
  14. 0:24in the Mac lineup. It just has so many
  15. 0:26qualities that put it in the right
  16. 0:28category for most people buying a
  17. 0:29laptop. The MacBook Neo is a better fit
  18. 0:31than the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro for
  19. 0:33sure. Most users just won't take
  20. 0:35advantage of the power and ability those
  21. 0:37computers have. All that power is going
  22. 0:39to go to waste and so is their money.
  23. 0:41For example, my mom was in the market
  24. 0:43for a new computer recently and she
  25. 0:44asked me, "Hey, what should I get?" And
  26. 0:46I asked, "Well, what do you want to do
  27. 0:48on it?" And she responded and said she
  28. 0:49wanted to pay her bills online, she
  29. 0:51wants to make little documents for her
  30. 0:52golf club, and she wants to make sure
  31. 0:54she can be able to print. And I was
  32. 0:56like,
  33. 0:57"MacBook Neo." And that's the thing,
  34. 0:59most users are like my mom. They just
  35. 1:01want to be able to perform basic
  36. 1:03computing tasks on a quality computer
  37. 1:05that will get the job done. Most folks
  38. 1:06just don't need a lot of power, they
  39. 1:08need to write up research papers, they
  40. 1:10need to make a PowerPoint. These days,
  41. 1:11they might even use AI for research and
  42. 1:13creation, and the Neo even has that.
  43. 1:15It's got the new Siri AI that can assist
  44. 1:17with all kinds of tasks. So, in this
  45. 1:20video, I'm going to give you three quick
  46. 1:21reasons on why the Neo is the right way
  47. 1:23to go and that MacBook Air or MacBook
  48. 1:25Pro is just overkill. Before we get
  49. 1:26started, I want to thank TomToc for
  50. 1:28sponsoring today's video. TomToc makes a
  51. 1:31wide range of high-quality sleeves and
  52. 1:33cases for your devices, and you may have
  53. 1:35noticed these bags in my previous
  54. 1:36videos. I've been using them for the
  55. 1:38past couple months and I've really
  56. 1:39enjoyed them. If you're looking for a
  57. 1:40simple way to protect your MacBook Neo
  58. 1:42during your daily commute or while
  59. 1:44traveling, these are definitely worth a
  60. 1:46look. They're extremely slim,
  61. 1:47lightweight, and easy to slide into a
  62. 1:49backpack without adding a lot of extra
  63. 1:51bulk. They also come in fun color
  64. 1:52options. I've got blue and black here.
  65. 1:54One feature I really like is TomToc's
  66. 1:56corner armor design. The corners have
  67. 1:58extra padding to help protect your
  68. 2:00device from bumps and minor drops when
  69. 2:02you're on the go. The sleeve also
  70. 2:03includes a side handle making it easy to
  71. 2:05carry by itself or quickly pull out of a
  72. 2:07backpack. There's an additional pocket
  73. 2:09built in as well, which is handy for
  74. 2:10storing accessories like charging
  75. 2:12cables, a mouse, or other small
  76. 2:14essentials. Another nice touch is the
  77. 2:15water-resistant exterior, which helps
  78. 2:17keep your device protected if you get
  79. 2:19caught in the rain. Tomtoc offers these
  80. 2:21sleeves for MacBooks, but they're also
  81. 2:22available for iPads. If you'd like to
  82. 2:24learn more, I'll have links to the
  83. 2:26Tomtoc Slim Essence series in the
  84. 2:28description below. Okay, so the first
  85. 2:30and most obvious reason to go with the
  86. 2:32Neo is the price. So, if you take a look
  87. 2:34at the Apple website and you compare the
  88. 2:36Neo to the Air and the Pro, you can see
  89. 2:38the price jumps are insane. The Neo is
  90. 2:41coming in at $6.99 and the base model
  91. 2:43Air is almost double that price. It's
  92. 2:46$12.99. And the base MacBook Pro is
  93. 2:49almost triple the price, 2,000 bucks.
  94. 2:52That's quite the jump and honestly,
  95. 2:54that's the Mac's biggest downfall, the
  96. 2:56expensive price tags. I would have
  97. 2:58parents come into the store looking for
  98. 2:59a computer for their college kiddo and
  99. 3:01they would take one look at the prices
  100. 3:03and be like, "Um, pass. I'll just go get
  101. 3:05a PC." And they would often go get like
  102. 3:07a Lenovo ThinkPad for half the price.
  103. 3:10So, they could get a good PC laptop for
  104. 3:12around 600 bucks and it did all the same
  105. 3:13things that the student needed to do. It
  106. 3:16could do word processing, it could make
  107. 3:17a PowerPoint, it could do web browsing.
  108. 3:20A lot of folks just had trouble
  109. 3:21justifying the price of a MacBook. Well,
  110. 3:23the MacBook Neo can more than handle
  111. 3:25those kinds of tasks much more
  112. 3:28affordable price tag these days. So, if
  113. 3:30you're shopping for a Mac, the first
  114. 3:31question you need to ask is, "What are
  115. 3:33you going to do with it?" If the answer
  116. 3:35is basic computing, I would go with the
  117. 3:37Neo. Now, the next reason you should go
  118. 3:39with the Neo is because it's actually a
  119. 3:41really high-quality computer despite
  120. 3:43having such a low price. You don't need
  121. 3:45to bump up to the Air or Pro because you
  122. 3:47think this computer will feel cheap.
  123. 3:48It's quite the opposite. So, the design
  124. 3:50is really well done. Apple did not skimp
  125. 3:52on this. The computer is thin, light,
  126. 3:54it's very portable, and all the colors
  127. 3:57are really fun. You get some cool
  128. 3:58choices that other MacBooks don't have.
  129. 4:00The keyboard experience is also really
  130. 4:02great. I actually love typing on the
  131. 4:04MacBook Neo. The keys have plenty of
  132. 4:06depth and size, so it's very comfortable
  133. 4:08to use. Apple didn't sacrifice on a
  134. 4:11quality keyboard and trackpad. Now, I
  135. 4:13will mention that the keyboard is not
  136. 4:14backlit, but it's still very functional,
  137. 4:16especially at this price point. The
  138. 4:18display is also very good. It's a much
  139. 4:20higher quality display than lots of
  140. 4:22cheap Windows computers, and it's way
  141. 4:25better than like a Chromebook or
  142. 4:26something. I used to use Chromebooks in
  143. 4:27my classroom when I taught in the
  144. 4:29evenings. Those were absolute junk,
  145. 4:31especially the display. Play on the Neo
  146. 4:33is awesome. The screen is nice and
  147. 4:35bright. Colors look great on it. You get
  148. 4:36500 nits of brightness with this
  149. 4:38computer. You're going to be really
  150. 4:40happy when you're watching content on
  151. 4:41the display. The speaker system in the
  152. 4:43Neo is also really good. It's a newly
  153. 4:45designed speaker system that pumps out
  154. 4:47great sound for the content you're
  155. 4:49watching. I have no complaints about the
  156. 4:50speakers in this computer. You also have
  157. 4:52enough ports to function and actually
  158. 4:54get computer tasks done. You have two,
  159. 4:56and one of them is a USB 3 port. So, if
  160. 4:59you use a hard drive, data transfer
  161. 5:00speeds are super quick. It makes it easy
  162. 5:02to move files, and you can charge the
  163. 5:04computer from either port as well. And
  164. 5:06that USB 3 port will also support
  165. 5:08running a secondary display, so you're
  166. 5:10not going to have any issues there. You
  167. 5:12can still have a two-display setup.
  168. 5:14Another thing I'll mention is the
  169. 5:15battery life. It's not as good as the
  170. 5:17Air or the Pro, but it's still going to
  171. 5:19last the entire work day, especially if
  172. 5:21you're just doing basic computing.
  173. 5:23You're still getting a computer that's
  174. 5:24going to last you all day when you need
  175. 5:25it off that charger. So, I've been
  176. 5:27testing the Neo and using it for the
  177. 5:29past 7 months, and I have no complaints
  178. 5:31about the quality. It's still really
  179. 5:33holding up well. The finish isn't
  180. 5:35chipping. There's no damage to the
  181. 5:37computer. The keyboard and trackpad
  182. 5:38still work great. You're going to be
  183. 5:40really happy with the quality,
  184. 5:41especially for the price that you paid.
  185. 5:43And the third reason I'll say to go with
  186. 5:44the Neo is because you can still do some
  187. 5:47intense and demanding tasks on this
  188. 5:49computer. It's not like you can't do
  189. 5:51things that the MacBook Pro or MacBook
  190. 5:53Air can only do. You can still edit
  191. 5:56high-end video on this computer. You can
  192. 5:58still do some gaming on this computer.
  193. 6:00The MacBook Air and MacBook Pro have
  194. 6:02more powerful processors, and they have
  195. 6:04more RAM, but you can still absolutely
  196. 6:07do powerful things on your MacBook Neo,
  197. 6:10just not quite as fast. Or if you're
  198. 6:12gaming, you don't get as good of
  199. 6:13graphics. But you can absolutely edit a
  200. 6:154K video on your MacBook Neo, no
  201. 6:17problem. It might be just a little
  202. 6:18slower when you're processing out that
  203. 6:20video, and you can absolutely game on
  204. 6:22it. Here I'm running the new World of
  205. 6:23Warcraft Forever beta, and it plays and
  206. 6:26runs just fine. Now, please note, I have
  207. 6:28to turn the graphics almost all the way
  208. 6:30down. I put it down on a two, and the
  209. 6:32frame rates are kind of okay. They hover
  210. 6:34around 25 to 30, but the game still
  211. 6:36plays just fine, and I have a good
  212. 6:38experience on it. I ran a dungeon on it
  213. 6:40just the other day. So, keep in mind
  214. 6:42that you still can do some demanding
  215. 6:44tasks on the MacBook Neo. You don't
  216. 6:46necessarily have to bump up to that Pro
  217. 6:47model just to edit video. Just keep in
  218. 6:50mind that it might be a little bit of a
  219. 6:51slower process when you do that. Now, if
  220. 6:53you're a professional in video editing
  221. 6:55or photo editing, or if you want to do
  222. 6:58really high-end gaming, this is not the
  223. 7:00computer for you. It does not have the
  224. 7:02capabilities to do that. It is running a
  225. 7:04phone chip, and it only has 8 gigs of
  226. 7:06RAM. So, if you're going to be doing
  227. 7:07that often, I wouldn't recommend this
  228. 7:09computer, but if you want to do it
  229. 7:10lightly, oh yeah, this machine is just
  230. 7:12fine. So, those are my three reasons why
  231. 7:14I would say the MacBook Neo is perfect
  232. 7:16for most people. It's going to do all
  233. 7:18the basic computing tasks that everyone
  234. 7:20needs to do, and it's going to do those
  235. 7:22really well. And it can even perform
  236. 7:24some really intensive tasks. It's not
  237. 7:26like it's completely incapable of video
  238. 7:28editing or gaming. And for the price
  239. 7:30tag, you just can't beat it. Even if you
  240. 7:32bumped up to that 512 gigs of storage,
  241. 7:35which I would recommend, by the way, 256
  242. 7:37is not very much, in my opinion. I
  243. 7:39always recommended to students and
  244. 7:40parents that they get the next notch up.
  245. 7:42If you want the computer to last years
  246. 7:44and years, you're probably going to fill
  247. 7:45up 256 gigs. But even doubling your
  248. 7:47storage is only an extra 100 bucks, and
  249. 7:49that's definitely worth it, and you're
  250. 7:51still about $500 under the MacBook Air.
  251. 7:54So, you're still saving a lot of money.
  252. 7:56Another thing you get if you bump up to
  253. 7:58that 512 gigs of storage is Touch ID,
  254. 8:00and that's really nice. The MacBook Air
  255. 8:02and Pro both have those standard. So, if
  256. 8:04you want that Touch ID option, go up to
  257. 8:06that 512 gigs of storage. But yeah, this
  258. 8:08is the MacBook that Apple should have
  259. 8:10come out with a long time ago. They
  260. 8:12really needed this in their market. I
  261. 8:14know they're supposed to be a premium
  262. 8:15product, but this is a premium product.
  263. 8:18You will still be really happy with the
  264. 8:20quality of this computer. Like I said,
  265. 8:22all the parts and pieces of it are still
  266. 8:24really nice. And after 7 months, I'm
  267. 8:26surprised it's holding up so well, and
  268. 8:27it really is. So, it's going to last you
  269. 8:29a long, long time. All of my Apple
  270. 8:31products always do. So, if you're
  271. 8:33thinking, "Neo, this is a great idea."
  272. 8:34And it might be a really good Christmas
  273. 8:36gift coming up as well. Let me know if
  274. 8:37you have any questions about this Neo,
  275. 8:39or if you've already purchased it, let
  276. 8:40me know what specs you chose. Sometimes
  277. 8:42I like to hear if you got the 256 model,
  278. 8:45if that's working for you, or if you
  279. 8:46feel like it's filling up. So, if you
  280. 8:47got that base, base model with 256 gigs
  281. 8:50of storage, leave a comment below. I'm
  282. 8:51anxious to hear how that's going. But
  283. 8:53that's all I got for you. If you like
  284. 8:54this sort of content, please like and
  285. 8:56subscribe, and we'll see you next
