- 0:03Americans
- 0:04and Asians
- 0:06are dying for a world
- 0:09where each people may choose its own
- 0:12path to change
- 0:15this is the principle for which our
- 0:18ancestors fought in The Valleys of
- 0:20Pennsylvania
- 0:21it is the principle for which our sons
- 0:24fight tonight
- 0:26in the jungles of Vietnam
- 0:29Vietnam is
- 0:31far away from this Quad Campus
- 0:35we have no territory there
- 0:37or do we seek any
- 0:39the war is dirty
- 0:42and brutal
- 0:44and difficult
- 0:45and some 400 young men
- 0:48born into an America that's bursting
- 0:51with opportunity and promise
- 0:53have ended their lives on Vietnam's
- 0:56steaming soil
- 0:59why must we take this painful Road
- 1:04why must this nation
- 1:07Hazard its ease and its interest
- 1:11and its power
- 1:13for the sake of a people so far away
- 1:17we fight
- 1:18because we must fight
- 1:21if we're to live in a world
- 1:23where every country can shape its own
- 1:26destiny
- 1:28and only
- 1:29in such a world will our own Freedom be
- 1:32finally secure
- 1:34we're also there because they're great
- 1:37stakes in the balance
- 1:40let no one think for a moment that
- 1:43Retreat from Vietnam would bring an end
- 1:46to conflict
- 1:48the battle would be renewed in one
- 1:50country and then another
- 1:52the central lesson of our time
- 1:55is that the appetite of aggression is
- 1:58never satisfied
- 2:00to withdraw from one Battlefield
- 2:03means only to prepare
- 2:06for the next
- 2:08we must say in Southeast Asia as we did
- 2:12in Europe
- 2:14in the words of the Bible
- 2:17hitherto
- 2:18shalt Thou come
- 2:21but no further
