Full transcript
- 0:01a simple jog around her Mississippi
- 0:02neighborhood quickly spiraled into a
- 0:04case of capital murder at the age of 18
- 0:07Sabrina Porter was wrongfully convicted
- 0:08of killing her 9-month-old son well I
- 0:10was sentenced to die and I'm hoping to
- 0:13you know get people to know what's going
- 0:16on it's just not just seeing a face just
- 0:19knowing that this I'm a real person so
- 0:21that's when they charged me with capital
- 0:23murder it put me in that um jail Cale I
- 0:27wouldn't wish that on anybody um to be
- 0:29sentenced for crime that you didn't
- 0:30commit you know being placed on death
- 0:32row knowing your life is before you it's
- 0:35it's it's very hard during her sixth a
- 0:38half years in prison Porter spent 2
- 0:40years and 9 months on death row and she
- 0:42was innocent first time instead of going
- 0:45through all these different I saw my
- 0:46attorneys two days before trial after I
- 0:49had already sit in the county jail for
- 0:50one year so you know i' had no
- 0:53preparation I didn't know what I was
- 0:55supposed to do as far as the jury um I
- 0:58really didn't I didn't understand what
- 0:59was going on on really Sabrina has a
- 1:01passion to change the face of sentencing
- 1:03in our country as well as investigations
- 1:05and the way suspects are treated kept
- 1:07trying to tell them the truth you know
- 1:09they don't want to hear that I think
- 1:11race played a role in my case because uh
- 1:13it was not a jury of my peers um it was
- 1:16just the way the whole court system
- 1:18thing was set up you know you could just
- 1:19really you could tell that it was
- 1:21racially motivated I paced the
- 1:24floors listen for and she's a part of
- 1:27the witness to Innocence Project she's
- 1:29an advocate for ending the death penalty
- 1:30in the United States I was to tell you
- 1:32that I was going to actually die and I
- 1:36want the younger generation to to really
- 1:38take a look at the justice system and I
- 1:39think that they can go in and approve a
- 1:41lot of things that have been um messed
- 1:43up for so many years and that's the
- 1:45reason why I like to talk to the youth
- 1:47because they are our future and I feel
- 1:49like you guys can you know change things
- 1:51it may not happen in my lifetime but I I
- 1:54think it will in you guys so we caught
- 1:57up with student Blain Hubert who was
- 1:59very passionate about the nights event
- 2:01and had a few words to
- 2:03share I feel like I I learned
- 2:10that not every case is cut and dry not
- 2:13everyone who gets the death penalty
- 2:14deserves it and definitely not everyone
- 2:15that
- 2:17gets executed via death penalty is
- 2:20innocent or is guilty I'm sorry lman
- 2:23says she just wants to share her story
- 2:25so that other people don't have to go
- 2:26through what she went through we're
- 2:27watching you you know because if get
- 2:30behind that and start making them hold
- 2:32somebody reporting for Lowdown I'm
- 2:34Adrianne
