Little Will the Wood Dragon Crochet Tutorial - FULL Tutorial! — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:05Hello everyone and welcome or welcome
- 0:07back to my channel. If you don't know
- 0:09me, my name is Sarah and in today's
- 0:11video I'm going to be showing you how to
- 0:12crochet Little Will. This is my own
- 0:15dragon pattern and it is the smaller
- 0:17version of my larger dragon Willow. You
- 0:20can find the pattern in my pattern shops
- 0:22if you're interested in a written
- 0:23version. There are a few pattern mods
- 0:25inside the pattern if you're interested.
- 0:27I've got two different spine types, two
- 0:29different horn types, and then two
- 0:31different flower types. In today's
- 0:32video, I'm going to keep it somewhat
- 0:34basic, and we're going to go with the
- 0:36fluffy spine, and the basic horns. And I
- 0:39won't be showing you how to do any
- 0:40flowers cuz this video is probably going
- 0:42to be long enough as is. I have a very
- 0:44quick disclaimer before we get into this
- 0:46tutorial, and that is I do tend to
- 0:48crochet pretty quickly. So, make sure to
- 0:51pause, replay, and slow down the video
- 0:53as needed. If you have any questions, if
- 0:55anything's confusing, let me know in the
- 0:57comments and I'll try and answer your
- 0:58questions as quickly as I can. I think
- 1:00I've covered everything. So, let's go
- 1:02ahead and get into the material list.
- 1:04For materials, I will be using Naughty
- 1:06Pony and Sweet Snuggles Light. I will be
- 1:09using Naughty Pony as my main color,
- 1:11Sweet Snuggles Light as my horn and toe
- 1:14colors, and then this blue right here
- 1:16for the inside of the wings. You can use
- 1:19as many colors as you want or as few. I
- 1:22also have this fuzzy yarn right here for
- 1:24the spine. I'm going to go with this
- 1:25rainbow color. And this is a big twist
- 1:28yarn. I don't believe they make it
- 1:29anymore. Unfortunately, it's
- 1:30discontinued. But what I did was I took
- 1:32the three strands and I separated them.
- 1:34So, I'm working with one strand. I would
- 1:36say this is a very similar to a size six
- 1:39fuzzy yarn. Finally, for yarn, I will be
- 1:41using Skinny Chanel or Petite Pearl. So,
- 1:43this is a size four yarn. I'm going to
- 1:45be using this to start my magic rings.
- 1:47Naughty Pony makes magic rings really
- 1:49easy. the yarn doesn't break, but I
- 1:51personally find that the magic ring is a
- 1:53lot cleaner using this method. So,
- 1:54that's what I'll be doing. Also, be
- 1:56sewing a few certain pieces on with this
- 1:58as well, but you can omit this step
- 2:00entirely and just use whatever yarn
- 2:02you're using right now to attach pieces.
- 2:04Next, you will need your tools. I will
- 2:05be using a 5 mm crochet hook today, but
- 2:09feel free to adjust what hook size you
- 2:11use depending on your yarn type. You can
- 2:12crochet this with any yarn type you
- 2:14want. You also need a pair of scissors.
- 2:16I have a couple sewing needles here, a
- 2:18nice long metal one and a plastic one.
- 2:20And you also need a stitch marker. If
- 2:22you want to keep track of the first of
- 2:23the round, you'll need two stitch
- 2:25markers because we need to for the body
- 2:27mark a certain stitch. Next thing you'll
- 2:29need are some eyes. I'm using these 25
- 2:31mm sinker eyes from Sweet Beans Crochet.
- 2:35If you are looking for nice eyes and you
- 2:37don't want to paint them yourself like
- 2:39me, Sweet Beans Crochet and Traveling
- 2:41Pony Studios both make gorgeous eyes,
- 2:43but you can also use regular black eyes.
- 2:45I recommend 20 mm black eyes or you can
- 2:48embroider them on. So, I have a full
- 2:49tutorial on that if you're interested in
- 2:51embroidering them. I also have a safety
- 2:53eye tool here from Sweet Beans Crochet
- 2:56to press the backs in. So, I'll show you
- 2:58how I use that when I get there. And
- 3:00finally, you'll need some stuffing. But
- 3:02I think that is it for the materials
- 3:03list. That was a long- winded intro. I
- 3:06apologize, but this pattern is on the
- 3:08complicated side, so it's got a long
- 3:10list of ingredients. So, now we're just
- 3:11going to go ahead and get started. We're
- 3:13going to start with the head, body, and
- 3:15tail. It's all one piece. Like I said,
- 3:17I'm going to be using Naughty Pony as my
- 3:18main color. So, this light blue. To
- 3:20start the head and body, we're going to
- 3:22start with the magic ring. I'm going to
- 3:24do this with my size four yarn. So, what
- 3:26I do is I wrap it around my fingers. I
- 3:29put it on my hook.
- 3:31Yarn over with the main color.
- 3:36Pull through. Yarn over and pull through
- 3:38to create a chain. And there you have
- 3:40your magic ring. In that magic green, we
- 3:42are going to single crochet eight times.
- 3:58Once you have eight single crochets,
- 3:59we're going to go ahead and close this
- 4:01up.
- 4:05And for the next round, we are going to
- 4:07increase three times. And then we are
- 4:09going to single crochet. And we'll
- 4:11repeat that twice total.
- 4:13Let me see if this is a factory knot or
- 4:15just a regular knot.
- 4:22Somehow knotted that. Okay.
- 4:37Here's
- 4:58round two finished. So now I'm going to
- 4:59quickly secure my magic ring just by
- 5:01pulling everything nice and tight and
- 5:03tying it all together. like to start
- 5:05with a size four yarn and just give it a
- 5:07couple of knots. And then tie both size
- 5:10four ends to the size six yarn.
- 5:16And that just secures the magic ring so
- 5:18it hopefully won't come loose with time.
- 5:20For round three, we're going to be
- 5:21creating our bobbles. So these are our
- 5:23nostrils. And for these, you can adjust
- 5:26how many incomplete decreases you use. I
- 5:28will be using four, but depending
- 5:30[music] on your yarn type or tension or
- 5:31anything, you could go up to five, make
- 5:33them smaller, bigger, whatever you
- 5:34prefer. We're going to start by single
- 5:36crocheting in the next stitch.
- 5:38Then we're going to increase two times.
- 5:47Then we will single crochet in the next
- 5:49stitch.
- 5:50And now we're going to create our
- 5:52bobble. So yarn over, insert your hook,
- 5:54yarn over, pull through. Yarn over, pull
- 5:57through two. I'm going to repeat that
- 5:58for a total of four incomplete double
- 6:00crochets. Like I said, you can adjust it
- 6:02as needed.
- 6:09And once all those are done, you're
- 6:11going to yarn over and pull through all
- 6:12the loops. Make sure to use your finger
- 6:14to push the bobble out. That way, you
- 6:16get a very clean shape for your bobble.
- 6:21Then, we're going to single crochet in
- 6:22the next three stitches.
- 6:27And we're going to bobble again. So
- 6:30repeat the first bobble you made exactly
- 6:32into this next stitch.
- 6:42Single crochet into the next stitch.
- 6:47Increase two times.
- 6:54And finally, single crochet in the last
- 6:57two stitches.
- 6:59And here we have our snout or nose,
- 7:01whatever you'd call it for a dragon,
- 7:03finished. For the next round, we're
- 7:04going to just single crochet in each
- 7:06stitch.
- 7:40Once your single crochet round is
- 7:42finished, we going to start increasing
- 7:44to create a forehead. Start by single
- 7:47crocheting six
- 7:56Then we're going to increase in the next
- 7:58five stitches.
- 8:19Just like so. Now, we're going to single
- 8:20crochet in the next seven stitches.
- 8:41For the next round, we're going to
- 8:42single crochet six again.
- 8:53Now we are going to single crochet and
- 8:56then increase in the next stitch. And
- 8:58you repeat that five times total.
- 9:31And now you're going to single crochet
- 9:32in the remaining seven stitches.
- 9:38Here's
- 9:44what the forehead is looking like so
- 9:46far. For this round, we're going to
- 9:48single crochet nine.
- 10:08Now we're going to increase single
- 10:10crochet two and repeat that four times.
- 10:44Now we're going to single crochet in the
- 10:45remaining seven stitches.
- 11:00And here's what the head is looking like
- 11:02so far. For the next five rounds, we're
- 11:05going to single crochet in each stitch.
- 11:07I'm going to go ahead and zoom out the
- 11:09camera a little bit since I keep bonking
- 11:10it. And then we'll get started on those
- 11:12single crochet rounds.
- 12:12Hey,
- 12:20hey,
- 12:23hey.
- 12:31Hey,
- 12:50hey, hey.
- 13:08Hey,
- 13:14hey, hey.
- 13:43And here are the single crochet rounds
- 13:45finished. So now we're going to add the
- 13:47eyes. So, I'm going to do this by adding
- 13:49my sinker eyes, but like I said earlier
- 13:51with the materials, feel free to adjust
- 13:53what eyes you end up using. I'm going to
- 13:55be placing these eyes between rounds
- 13:58seven and eight, what I like to call the
- 14:00final increase round and the first
- 14:02single crochet round. I like to be kind
- 14:04of in line with the bobble stitches, but
- 14:07you'll have to adjust the placement
- 14:09depending on the eyes you're using and
- 14:11then just in general, depending on yarn
- 14:13type and everything.
- 14:28And I'm sinking my eyes in a tiny bit
- 14:30because that's what I will be doing.
- 14:32I'll be shaping the face once we're
- 14:34finished. So, I'm kind of adjusting them
- 14:36as if they would be sunk in a little
- 14:39bit. Okay, one final check to make sure
- 14:40they're in line. I think this looks
- 14:42pretty good. So, I'm going to commit
- 14:44with these.
- 14:45First click is not secure, but I like to
- 14:49check the eyes like this by doing one
- 14:51click
- 14:53and seeing if they look nice,
- 14:57which they do. So, now I'm going to
- 14:58secure them.
- 15:02Wasn't intending to use paper towels for
- 15:04this, but I have them right here. So,
- 15:05that's what I'll use to protect the
- 15:07eyes. And then I put the tool on and I
- 15:10press down.
- 15:12which I usually do this if I'm standing
- 15:14up. That way you can really get all your
- 15:16weight on there and click it. So, I
- 15:17clipped it once here. You can see
- 15:20there's that line. And I don't think I'm
- 15:22going to be able to get these any deeper
- 15:24cuz the yarn is pretty thick. So, do the
- 15:26same on the other eye.
- 15:30Just like that. Good thing the pupils
- 15:32are in line. Sometimes the pupils are a
- 15:33little off and they kind of look funny.
- 15:35Anyways, there are the eyes joined and
- 15:37all ready to go. So for the next round,
- 15:39we are going to decrease. Then we're
- 15:42going to single crochet twice. And we'll
- 15:43repeat that eight times total.
- 16:39You can start stuffing the head now, But
- 16:42I personally like to wait until after
- 16:43the increase rounds of the body are
- 16:45finished. So that's what I will be
- 16:47doing. Like I said, you can stuff now
- 16:49and as we continue on, you can pretty
- 16:51much stuff whenever you want. For the
- 16:52next round, we are going to decrease.
- 16:54Then we're going to single crochet. And
- 16:56then we'll repeat that eight times
- 16:58total.
- 17:32And here's the head finished. For the
- 17:35next four rounds, we're going to single
- 17:37crochet in each stitch.
- 17:53Hey
- 17:56hey
- 18:00happy hey happy hey happy hey happy hey
- 18:00happy hey happy hey happy hey happy hey
- 18:00happy hey happy hey
- 18:35And here are the four single crochet
- 18:37rounds finished. For the next round, we
- 18:39are going to increase and then we will
- 18:41single crochet three times. And we'll
- 18:43repeat that four times total.
- 19:18For the next round, we're going to
- 19:19increase and then single crochet four
- 19:21times and repeat that four times total.
- 20:02For the next row, we're going to
- 20:03increase single crochet five. And we'll
- 20:06repeat that four times total.
- 21:06And for the final increase round of the
- 21:08body, we are going to increase single
- 21:10crochet six and repeat that four times
- 21:13total.
- 21:59And here are increase rounds finished.
- 22:01So, like I said, now I'm going to begin
- 22:03stuffing the head.
- 23:19>> [music]
- 23:24>> And here is the head stuff. For the next
- 23:26three rounds, we're going to single
- 23:28crochet in each stitch.
- 23:38[music]
- 24:05Baby.
- 24:43Here
- 24:52are the single crochet rounds finished.
- 24:55So, now we're going to begin our
- 24:56decrease rounds. And this step is a
- 24:58little tedious. I wouldn't say it's too
- 25:00complicated, especially since I'm going
- 25:01to walk you through it. But, we're going
- 25:02to have to mark a couple of stitches and
- 25:05kind of adjust things as we go. So, this
- 25:07is where we need our stitch marker.
- 25:09First thing you're going to do is find
- 25:10the center stitch. So you have your
- 25:13forehead facing you up to the top and
- 25:16your center stitch could be two stitches
- 25:18or one. It doesn't really make too much
- 25:20of a difference. [music] I would say
- 25:21these two are pretty close to center. So
- 25:24I'm going to start with this stitch
- 25:25here. So if this is my center stitch, we
- 25:28are then going to count eight stitches
- 25:30to the right of the stitch marker.
- 25:37and eight.
- 25:41And in the eighth stitch, we're actually
- 25:43going to mark that stitch. You can
- 25:45remove the center marker and just mark
- 25:47this stitch. Now, the goal here is to
- 25:49place a decrease at the top and two
- 25:51decreases, one on each side. So, one
- 25:53here and one here. And you want it to be
- 25:55centered with the forehead, the eyes,
- 25:57the head in general. So, once you do
- 26:00this first round where we decrease, you
- 26:01can take it out and adjust it if [music]
- 26:03you need to. I sometimes have to do
- 26:05that. Very rarely do I actually nail it
- 26:07first try. So, I usually have to take
- 26:09the first round out and adjust it
- 26:11accordingly. We're going to single
- 26:12crochet until you arrived at your mark
- 26:14stitch. So, place your final single
- 26:16crochet right before the stitch marker.
- 26:40So, here we are at the marked stitch.
- 26:42We're going to remove our stitch marker
- 26:44and we're going to decrease. So, I'm
- 26:47going to use the invisible decrease.
- 26:48Then, we're going to single crochet six
- 26:58decrease again.
- 27:01single crochet six
- 27:09and decrease.
- 27:12And we're going to single crochet six
- 27:14more times, but I'm just going to check
- 27:15and make sure this is even first.
- 27:17[music] Here's my decrease.
- 27:22Okay, it looks it looks mostly fine to
- 27:24me. It doesn't need to be perfect. And
- 27:26then we're going to single crochet six.
- 27:35Now, if you're like me, you may have
- 27:36over overlapped our end of round from
- 27:38the previous round. Hopefully, I'm
- 27:40making sense here. If you did, that is
- 27:42fine. What you're going to do is just
- 27:43mark this stitch. This is your new end
- 27:45of round for this round and all the
- 27:47future rounds. So, if you are marking
- 27:50your beginning of the round, just go
- 27:51ahead and move it to the end of this
- 27:52round. Hopefully, I'm making some sense.
- 27:55I'm going to go ahead and zoom the
- 27:56camera out a little bit more since this
- 27:57guy has gotten a little bit longer. And
- 27:59then we will continue on with the
- 28:00decrease rounds. For the next round,
- 28:02we're going to single crochet eight.
- 28:04Then we will decrease and then single
- 28:06crochet five. And repeat that three
- 28:08times total. Just the decrease single
- 28:10crochet five section.
- 28:59For the next round, we're going to
- 29:00single crochet eight and then we will
- 29:03decrease single crochet for three times
- 29:05total.
- 30:08And now you want to begin stuffing the
- 30:11neck and the body throughout the next
- 30:14decrease rounds cuz the stitch count is
- 30:16about to get pretty small. So just
- 30:18continue stuffing as we go. Whenever you
- 30:20feel like you need to stuff the body,
- 30:22stuff it.
- 30:24I'm just going to add a little bit more
- 30:25stuffing to the neck right now and then
- 30:27stuff the body when it's a little bit
- 30:29more closed. For the next round, we're
- 30:31going to single crochet eight. Then we
- 30:33will decrease. Single crochet three
- 30:35three times. Now, if you need to adjust
- 30:38the decreases, feel free to do so. What
- 30:41you can do is just single crochet seven,
- 30:43then do the decrease rounds and just
- 30:45mark that as your new beginning of the
- 30:47round. You can just really adjust the
- 30:49decreases as needed.
- 30:51So, what I like to do is kind of look at
- 30:53it and I can kind of see the decreases
- 30:56are starting to go this way. It depends
- 30:57on your yarn type, your tension, and if
- 31:00you crochet yarn under or over. It just
- 31:02it all depends. Every dragon for me is a
- 31:04little bit different. I'm going to
- 31:06single crochet seven, then decrease
- 31:08single crochet three. That way, the
- 31:10decreases even out a little bit more.
- 31:28So if you do that and you single crochet
- 31:29seven, you'll technically have an extra
- 31:31stitch, but you can just mark this
- 31:33stitch as your new end of round instead
- 31:35of crocheting an extra stitch. For the
- 31:37next round, we're going to single
- 31:39crochet eight. Then we will decrease,
- 31:41single crochet two, and repeat that
- 31:44three times.
- 32:15And here's what we're looking like so
- 32:17far. The decreases seem to have stayed
- 32:19pretty even after I did that little
- 32:21adjustment on the last round. Now I'm
- 32:23going to stuff the body pretty much all
- 32:25the way.
- 32:56For the next round, we're going to
- 32:57single crochet eight and then we will
- 32:59decrease single crochet. Repeat that
- 33:01three times.
- 33:33And I'm going to stuff the body some
- 33:35more.
- 34:27Now we're going to single crochet eight
- 34:29And then decrease three times.
- 34:57And here's what we're looking like so
- 34:59far. For the next two rounds, we're
- 35:01going to single crochet in each stitch.
- 35:48Now I'm going to finish stuffing the
- 35:50body and start stuffing the tail. I'm
- 35:52just going to stuff as I go at this
- 35:53point because if you wait to stuff the
- 35:55tail, you can kind of it gets really
- 35:57lumpy pretty much cuz the stitch count's
- 35:59so small. It's just it's very tedious to
- 36:01try and stuff it when it's finished or
- 36:03closer to being done. That is
- 36:52For the next round, we're going to
- 36:53single crochet nine and then decrease.
- 37:18For these decreases, it doesn't matter
- 37:20where they end up. So unlike the back
- 37:23where the decreases matter, otherwise
- 37:25the back kind of looks uneven. When you
- 37:27decrease on the tail, it doesn't matter
- 37:29where they are. So mine are going to end
- 37:30up going kind of like this up the tail.
- 37:33And that's fine. You're not going to
- 37:34notice it. So don't worry about decrease
- 37:36placement for the tail, just the back.
- 37:38For the next two rounds, we're going to
- 37:40single crochet in each stitch.
- 38:17Now I'm going to stuff some more. And I
- 38:20apologize for all of the times that I
- 38:22have bumped the camera in this video and
- 38:24anytime going forward because it's kind
- 38:26of a hard project. I should have used a
- 38:28smaller yarn. I didn't even think about
- 38:29it. This guy will be super cute, so
- 38:31it'll be worth it.
- 39:02For the next round, we're going to
- 39:03single crochet eight and then decrease.
- 39:19And for the next two rounds, we're going
- 39:20to single crochet in each stitch.
- 39:52For the next round, we're going to
- 39:53single crochet seven and then decrease.
- 39:55crease.
- 40:16And for the next two rounds, we're going
- 40:18to single crochet in each stitch.
- 40:49Now I'm going to stuff again.
- 41:06Hey.
- 41:13Hey. Hey.
- 41:28For the next round, we're going to
- 41:29single crochet six and then decrease.
- 41:45For the next two rounds, we're going to
- 41:46single crochet in each stitch.
- 42:09I do stuff some more again.
- 42:25for the next round. We're going to
- 42:26single crochet four and then we will
- 42:28decrease
- 42:43And for the last two rounds, we're going
- 42:44to single crochet in each stitch.
- 43:12Now we're going to slip stitch into the
- 43:14next stitch. Chain one and fasten off.
- 43:16You just need a length of yarn long
- 43:18enough to close up this bottom hole and
- 43:19then we'll weave it in. I'm going to
- 43:21finish stuffing this tail and then we
- 43:22are going to close up this hole.
- 43:25If you're working with a smaller yarn
- 43:27type, you might need a stuffing stick or
- 43:29a back of a needle. I like this one for
- 43:31that.
- 43:39And here is our dragon mostly finished,
- 43:43at least the body. So, I'm going to
- 43:45close up this bottom hole using this
- 43:47blue needle I have. Just going to
- 43:49collect all of the front loops
- 44:01just like so. Pull tight.
- 44:02>> [music]
- 44:03>> And I'm going to create a knot
- 44:06just like that. And then weave this guy
- 44:08right into the tail. You might have some
- 44:12stuffing bunch up when you try and weave
- 44:14it in. So I'm actually going to switch
- 44:15to my metal needle so it slides in a
- 44:18little bit easier.
- 44:22If you have bunching up, then you can
- 44:24just take your needle and kind of break
- 44:27everything up again once you weave in
- 44:28this end.
- 44:52And here is the body closed off. Next
- 44:55thing we're going to do is sink in the
- 44:57eyes or shape the face. This is
- 44:58technically an optional step. I mean,
- 45:00you could omit it, but I highly
- 45:02recommend giving it a try. I have some
- 45:04size for I think this is petite pearl.
- 45:07So, I'm going to use this instead for
- 45:09the face shaping. Highly recommend using
- 45:11a slightly smaller yarn type. Unless
- 45:13you're already working with a small yarn
- 45:14type, then you can just use whatever you
- 45:16use for the body. This is a little bit
- 45:18easier to make invisible. So, we're
- 45:20going to start at the bottom. Just
- 45:22insert your needle anywhere. Doesn't
- 45:24matter on the bottom. And we're going to
- 45:25come up into the bottom corner of one of
- 45:27the eyes.
- 45:30Pull up a nice length of yarn. And we're
- 45:32going to go straight across to the upper
- 45:34corner of the eye. Just like this.
- 45:37Try and get as close to the eye as you
- 45:39can as this will keep it more hidden.
- 45:43Actually going to take this up one
- 45:46like that and then go up to the top
- 45:49corner of the eye.
- 45:52And we're going to take this needle and
- 45:53go right across to the other eye and do
- 45:56this exact same thing.
- 45:59Starting at the bottom corner of the
- 46:01eye.
- 46:02So, here's what it looks like on this
- 46:03side.
- 46:05Going to do the same thing over here.
- 46:07I'm going to adjust my placement a
- 46:08little bit more.
- 46:14And then we're going to go back to
- 46:17the corner of the eye on the other eye,
- 46:20the top corner, and sew above
- 46:24kind of right here about in the corner
- 46:26of the eye on the top.
- 46:28And repeat the process on the other side
- 46:31as well.
- 46:37And when you've finished, just go ahead
- 46:39and take your yarn back to the bottom.
- 46:43And now what I like to do is to actually
- 46:45shape the face. I push my eyes in and
- 46:48then I pull both ends nice and tight.
- 46:52Just like so. And you can kind of use
- 46:55your fingers to make sure that the ends
- 46:57are underneath the eye. If you're using
- 46:59like black eyes, usually they sit a
- 47:01little bit easier. the sinker eyes. It
- 47:03tends to be a little bit harder to get
- 47:05the yarn ends completely invisible. But
- 47:07as you can see, this one worked out
- 47:09pretty well. That's why I try and stick
- 47:10with colors that are very similar, if
- 47:11not the same, to the body. And if you
- 47:13pull it too far and you want to take it
- 47:15out, you can just take a needle and kind
- 47:17of just pull them out a little bit.
- 47:19Also, I have [snorts] a lot of questions
- 47:20about this needle. I'll answer them
- 47:21really fast. I know I'm getting
- 47:22distracted here, but I get my long
- 47:24needles from either Michaels or Hobby
- 47:26Lobby. They're called 5-in waving
- 47:28needles. You can check them out. I if I
- 47:31remember correctly, the ones from Hobby
- 47:33Lobby are a little sturdier, but I might
- 47:36have that backwards. Going to go ahead
- 47:37and trim my working yarn,
- 47:43the one that's still connected to my
- 47:44ball. And then I'm going to tie these
- 47:48two ends nice and tight together.
- 47:50You want to do them pretty tight, even
- 47:53if they sink the eyes in a little bit
- 47:54more. Generally, things will loosen up a
- 47:56little bit with time. And I'm just going
- 47:57to go ahead and weave these ends right
- 47:59into the head.
- 48:19Here
- 48:29are the eyes sunk in. Might have some
- 48:31stuffing. If you do, just go ahead and
- 48:33pull it out. I think sinking the eyes in
- 48:34just kind of adds that extra level of
- 48:36detail and I think it's worth it. So,
- 48:38highly recommend giving it a shot if you
- 48:40haven't already. Now, we have two more
- 48:41things to do with the body. We have to
- 48:43make the tail detail, which is the most
- 48:46complicated step of this pattern. You
- 48:47all don't have to do it. You can always
- 48:49substitute it for something else. I have
- 48:51a feeling in video format it'll actually
- 48:52be easier to follow. So hopefully that
- 48:54is true. And then after we do the tail
- 48:56detail, we'll have to add the fluffy
- 48:58spine. You can use regular yarn if you
- 49:01don't have any fuzzy yarn. Create little
- 49:02spikes or just do crochet across or omit
- 49:05it. Whatever you want to do. I need to
- 49:06adjust the camera angle again and then
- 49:08we will work on the tail detail. First,
- 49:10I'm going to make the tail detail out of
- 49:12this blue. We're going to start by
- 49:13making a slip a slip knot onto your
- 49:16hook.
- 49:18You just need a short end cuz we're just
- 49:19going to weave it right in when we're
- 49:21finished. And now we're going to take
- 49:22our tail. You want the head to be facing
- 49:24up towards you. We're going to count
- 49:26five rounds down. So we have the tip of
- 49:29the tail here.
- 49:311 2 3 four and five. And in that fifth
- 49:35round, we are going to place a slip
- 49:37stitch. So put your hook through it.
- 49:40Yarn over and pull through all of that.
- 49:43Just like so. So here we are joined. Now
- 49:45we're going to chain two and in that
- 49:48second chain we're going to place a
- 49:50single crochet.
- 49:53Then we're going to slip stitch into the
- 49:55next round of the body
- 49:58just like so.
- 50:00So now we're going to turn our work and
- 50:04in back loop only we are going to place
- 50:06an increase.
- 50:16chain one and we're going to turn our
- 50:18work again. Here's what we're looking
- 50:20like so far. For step four, we're going
- 50:22to in back loop only single crochet
- 50:25twice. So, one and then two.
- 50:31And then we're going to slip stitch into
- 50:33the next stitch of the tail.
- 50:38Turn your work
- 50:40and in back loop only we are going to
- 50:43single crochet and then we will increase
- 50:45into that last stitch.
- 50:51Chain one and turn your work again in
- 50:54back loop only. We're going to single
- 50:56crochet three
- 51:02and then slip stitch into the next round
- 51:04of the body.
- 51:09Now we're going to turn our work. We're
- 51:12going to single crochet in back loop
- 51:13only twice.
- 51:17And then we're going to increase into
- 51:19that last stitch.
- 51:24Chain one [music] and turn.
- 51:27And single crochet in the next four
- 51:29stitches. Again, back loop only.
- 51:42Just like so. Now, we're going to slip
- 51:44stitch into the tip of the tail.
- 51:50Just like that. Here we have our tail
- 51:52almost halfway finished. We're going to
- 51:55turn our work and single crochet in the
- 51:57next four stitches. Again, back loop
- 51:59only.
- 52:11Chain one and turn. Single crochet into
- 52:14the next four stitches. Back loop only
- 52:16again.
- 52:30Now we're going to slip stitch into that
- 52:32same stitch as our previous slip stitch.
- 52:39We're going to turn our work and single
- 52:42crochet in back loop only in the next
- 52:44two stitches.
- 52:46Then we are going to decrease.
- 52:51Chain one and turn. We're going to
- 52:55decrease in back loop only.
- 52:59and then single crochet.
- 53:08And we're again going to slip stitch
- 53:10into that same stitch.
- 53:16We're going to turn our work and
- 53:19decrease in back loop only.
- 53:29chain one and turn.
- 53:33And we're going to in back loop only
- 53:36increase into that stitch.
- 53:39And we're going to slip stitch into the
- 53:41other side of the tail. So we're going
- 53:43to still be in the tail tip, but on the
- 53:46other side of it.
- 53:53Now we're going to turn our work, single
- 53:56crochet,
- 53:58and then increase in that last stitch.
- 54:00Again, back loop only. Almost forgot to
- 54:02say it this time.
- 54:05Chain one and turn. We're going to
- 54:08increase into that first stitch and back
- 54:09loop only. And then single crochet in
- 54:12the next two.
- 54:16Slip stitch into that same stitch.
- 54:25Now you're going to turn your work
- 54:29and single crochet in back loop only
- 54:32four times.
- 54:42Chain one and [music] turn.
- 54:45Single crochet in back loop only four
- 54:48times.
- 54:54and slip stitch into that same stitch of
- 54:57the body.
- 54:58Here's what our tail detail is looking
- 55:00like so far.
- 55:02Now, we're going to turn our work.
- 55:06We're going to single crochet four.
- 55:14Next, we're going to chain one and turn.
- 55:20And we're going to in back loop only
- 55:22decrease
- 55:24and then single crochet two times.
- 55:31And we're going to slip stitch into the
- 55:32next stitch of the body.
- 55:39We are nearly finished with the tail.
- 55:42We're going to turn our work and in back
- 55:45loop only single crochet three
- 55:50chain one and turn
- 56:29in back loop only. Single crochet twice.
- 56:35Slip stitch into the next stitch of the
- 56:37body. Turn your work.
- 56:40In back loop only, you're going to
- 56:42decrease.
- 56:45Chain one and turn. And we're going to
- 56:48in back loop only single crochet once.
- 56:52Slip stitch into the next stitch of the
- 56:53body. This stitch should line up with
- 56:56the other side on the front side. Cuz
- 56:59it's a spiral. It won't line up on the
- 57:01back, but it'll line up in the front. Go
- 57:02ahead and chain one and fasten off,
- 57:04leaving a short end.
- 57:11Now, we're going to secure and weave
- 57:13these ends in. But here's what the tail
- 57:15detail looks like so far. Mine is
- 57:17looking a little interesting. I had a
- 57:20couple mistakes cuz I started crocheting
- 57:22the willow tail instead of the little
- 57:24will tail. So, what I'm going to do is
- 57:25take my end and I'm just going to
- 57:27flatten this or round it out a bit by
- 57:31just sewing it down a little bit more so
- 57:33it lines up better with the other side.
- 57:46Just like that. And now I'm going to
- 57:48take the other side and bring it to the
- 57:50other end.
- 57:55And we're going to tie these two ends
- 57:57together to secure them.
- 58:05Now I'm just going to weave them in.
- 58:24And here is the tail detail finished. As
- 58:27you could probably tell, I also
- 58:29struggled a little bit with my own
- 58:30pattern. It just is what it is.
- 58:32Sometimes the tail detail is tedious,
- 58:35more tedious than usual. We're going to
- 58:37do the legs first, sew them on, and then
- 58:38add the fuzz cuz I think that the fluffy
- 58:40yarn, it'll be easier to line it up once
- 58:42the legs are attached. So, this piece is
- 58:44done for now. Go ahead and set it aside.
- 58:46So, now we're going to move on to the
- 58:49legs. these guys right here. So, let me
- 58:51readjust the camera, zoom in a little
- 58:53bit, and we'll get crocheting. For the
- 58:54feet, you can use one or two colors. I
- 58:57will be using two colors today to make
- 58:59my toes, but I have in the past made the
- 59:02toes in the same color as the primary
- 59:04color, and it turns out super cute. So,
- 59:06feel free to color change or not,
- 59:07whatever you like. To begin, we're going
- 59:09to start with our magic ring. So, I'm
- 59:11going to be using my size four yarn for
- 59:13this step again.
- 59:15And we're going to start with our
- 59:16primary color.
- 59:18And in that magic ring, we're going to
- 59:20single crochet six times.
- 59:29Once you finished, go ahead and close up
- 59:31that magic ring. Now, we're going to
- 59:34increase six times or in each stitch.
- 59:59Now I'm going to go ahead and secure my
- 1:00:01magic ring by pulling everything tight
- 1:00:03and then tying everything together just
- 1:00:05like we did with the head.
- 1:00:21For the next round, we're going to
- 1:00:22increase and then single crochet once.
- 1:00:25And we'll repeat that six times total.
- 1:00:58For the next round, we are going to be
- 1:00:59adding our bobbles. So, to begin, we're
- 1:01:01going to single crochet four times.
- 1:01:09And now we are going to start our first
- 1:01:11bobble. Like I said, I'll be using my
- 1:01:13white yarn. And I do this in a specific
- 1:01:15way. That way the bobbles stay really
- 1:01:17nice and clean. So what I do is I yarn
- 1:01:19over with my white yarn. And then we're
- 1:01:22going to create our bobble just like we
- 1:01:24did with the nose.
- 1:01:28I'm going to be doing four incomplete
- 1:01:30double crochets. And then instead of
- 1:01:32finishing the bobble with the white,
- 1:01:34what I'm going to do is yarn over and
- 1:01:36finish with the with the primary color.
- 1:01:38Just like that. Go ahead and single
- 1:01:41crochet in the next stitch.
- 1:01:44And this creates a very clean bobble
- 1:01:46because if you color change with the
- 1:01:48white, this stitch up here will be
- 1:01:50white. You would be able to see the
- 1:01:52stitches peeking through. So, we're
- 1:01:54going to repeat this two more times. So,
- 1:01:56bobble and then single crochet. Bobble
- 1:01:58and then single crochet.
- 1:02:29And here are the Bbles finished. Now
- 1:02:30we're going to single crochet in the
- 1:02:31remaining eight stitches.
- 1:02:42And now we're going to secure the color
- 1:02:44change ends. So go ahead and cut the
- 1:02:47white yarn
- 1:02:49or whatever you're using to make your
- 1:02:51bobbles. And what I like to do is take
- 1:02:52my hook and pull these loops right here.
- 1:02:56This is kind of in between the bobbles
- 1:02:58on the inside. and just pull them in a
- 1:03:00little bit to tighten anything that
- 1:03:02might look a little funny on the
- 1:03:03outside. Then I'm going to tie the two
- 1:03:04ends together to secure them.
- 1:03:10And here are the bobbles.
- 1:03:13So now for the next round, we are going
- 1:03:15to single crochet for the next two
- 1:03:17rounds. We're going to single crochet in
- 1:03:19each stitch.
- 1:03:27What I like to do when I get to the
- 1:03:28bobbles, the single crochets between the
- 1:03:30bobbles, I like to hook that loop we
- 1:03:32just tugged on and single crochet all
- 1:03:35the way through it. This just helps keep
- 1:03:37everything nice and secure.
- 1:04:32For the next round, we are going to
- 1:04:34decrease and then single crochet four.
- 1:04:37And we'll repeat that three times total.
- 1:04:59For the next round, we're going to
- 1:05:01single crochet in each stitch.
- 1:05:24And for the next round, we're going to
- 1:05:25decrease and then single crochet three
- 1:05:27and repeat that three times.
- 1:05:46And for the final round, we're going to
- 1:05:47single crochet in each stitch.
- 1:06:05Go ahead and slip stitch, chain one, and
- 1:06:08fasten off, leaving a length of yarn for
- 1:06:10sewing.
- 1:06:16And now we're going to stuff the leg.
- 1:06:48And here is the leg finished. Go ahead
- 1:06:50and repeat this entire process four
- 1:06:52times total, but three more times. So
- 1:06:55you have a total of four legs. They're
- 1:06:56all identical. So just go ahead and make
- 1:06:58four of them. Let's go ahead and move on
- 1:06:59to the other smaller pieces before we
- 1:07:01sew everything together. So let's go
- 1:07:03ahead and make the ears. For the ears,
- 1:07:05we're going to repeat the same thing and
- 1:07:07start with a magic ring. Again, I'll be
- 1:07:09using my size four yarn for this. And in
- 1:07:12that magic ring, we're going to single
- 1:07:14crochet four.
- 1:07:23Go ahead and close up that magic ring.
- 1:07:30We're going to increase and then single
- 1:07:33crochet. And repeat that two times
- 1:07:35total.
- 1:07:44For the next round, we are going to
- 1:07:45increase and then we will single crochet
- 1:07:47two times and repeat that two times
- 1:07:50total.
- 1:07:58And now I'm going to quickly secure my
- 1:08:00magic ring so that I can turn this right
- 1:08:02side out. Let's pull everything nice and
- 1:08:04tight and tie it all together.
- 1:08:09Depending on your yarn type and size,
- 1:08:11you might need to trim your magic ring
- 1:08:13ends because you want the ear to lay as
- 1:08:14flat as possible. Mine should be okay
- 1:08:17since I'm using this yarn type. So, the
- 1:08:20ears are slightly bigger. For the next
- 1:08:21round, we're going to increase single
- 1:08:23crochet three and repeat that two times
- 1:08:26total.
- 1:08:37For the next round, we're going to
- 1:08:38increase single crochet four and repeat
- 1:08:40that two times total.
- 1:08:57And for the next round, we're going to
- 1:08:59single crochet in each stitch.
- 1:09:21And for the next round, we're going to
- 1:09:23decrease and then single crochet four.
- 1:09:26And repeat that two times total.
- 1:09:39Slip stitch. Chain one and fasten off,
- 1:09:42leaving a length of yarn for sewing.
- 1:09:50Go ahead and repeat this entire process
- 1:09:52for the ears two times total. So, you
- 1:09:54have two ears. When you're finished,
- 1:09:55just press them flat with the increases
- 1:09:57kind of along the side, but with your
- 1:10:00tail on one end. Let's go ahead and make
- 1:10:01the horns. For the horns, I will work
- 1:10:03with my white yarn. And I ended up
- 1:10:06joining some size four yarn so I can sew
- 1:10:08this on simply because I know this white
- 1:10:09yarn will fall apart if I try and sew
- 1:10:12with it. To begin, we're going to start
- 1:10:13with our magic ring.
- 1:10:15In this magic ring, you're going to
- 1:10:17single crochet four.
- 1:10:29Go ahead and close up your magic ring.
- 1:10:33For the next round, we're going to
- 1:10:34increase and then we're going to single
- 1:10:35crochet three.
- 1:10:46For the next round, we're going to
- 1:10:48increase and then single crochet four.
- 1:10:57Now, I'm going to secure my magic ring
- 1:10:58so I can turn this right side out.
- 1:11:16And for the next round, we're going to
- 1:11:18increase and then single crochet five.
- 1:11:29For the next round, we're going to
- 1:11:30increase and then single crochet six.
- 1:11:43And for the next round, we're going to
- 1:11:45increase and then single crochet seven.
- 1:11:57Now, we're going to slip stitch Chain
- 1:11:59one and fasten off. Now, I will be
- 1:12:01cutting a short end, but if your yarn is
- 1:12:03easy to sew with, go ahead and leave a
- 1:12:05long length of yarn for sewing. I'm
- 1:12:08going to go ahead and join my size four
- 1:12:10yarn real quick, and then we will stuff
- 1:12:12it. The way I do this is by taking my
- 1:12:15size four yarn. I'm going to thread my
- 1:12:17needle and I'm going to bring it through
- 1:12:19the slip stitch we just made and pull
- 1:12:22out a length of yarn for sewing. Trim
- 1:12:26the yarn that's still connected short.
- 1:12:29And then tie these two ends together.
- 1:12:45Tuck those ends inside the horn. And
- 1:12:48then I will stuff it.
- 1:13:09And here are the horns finished. Go
- 1:13:11ahead and repeat the entire process to
- 1:13:13make two of them total. Now, we're going
- 1:13:15to go ahead and move on to the wing. To
- 1:13:17make the wing, we're going to start with
- 1:13:18our wing color. So, in this case, it's
- 1:13:20my third color. We're going to start
- 1:13:22with our magic ring just the same as all
- 1:13:24the other pieces. And in this magic
- 1:13:27ring, we're going to single crochet four
- 1:13:29times.
- 1:13:38Go ahead and close up your magic ring.
- 1:13:43And then this next round, we're going to
- 1:13:45increase four times. So increase in each
- 1:13:47stitch.
- 1:14:05Now I'm going to go ahead and secure my
- 1:14:07magic ring. Pull everything nice and
- 1:14:08tight and turn it right side out.
- 1:14:29For the next round, we're going to
- 1:14:30increase, single crochet one, and then
- 1:14:33repeat that four times total.
- 1:14:58For the next round, we're going to
- 1:14:59increase single crochet two and repeat
- 1:15:02that four times total.
- 1:15:06Here's
- 1:15:31what it's looking like so far. For the
- 1:15:33next round, we're going to increase and
- 1:15:35then single crochet three times. And
- 1:15:37we'll repeat that four times total.
- 1:16:09And for the next round, we're going to
- 1:16:11increase and then single crochet four.
- 1:16:13And we'll repeat that four times total.
- 1:16:49For the next round, we're going to
- 1:16:51increase single crochet five. And we'll
- 1:16:53repeat that four times total.
- 1:17:34And for the next round, we're going to
- 1:17:36increase single crochet six and repeat
- 1:17:38that four times total.
- 1:18:32And here is our wing. Now we're going to
- 1:18:34crochet it closed. To do this, we're
- 1:18:36going to single crochet. We're going to
- 1:18:39chain one. I find chaining one makes
- 1:18:41this process a little bit easier. And
- 1:18:43we're going to fold our piece in half
- 1:18:44and crochet through both sides
- 1:18:47just like so. So, just go ahead and
- 1:18:50single crochet. We're going to single
- 1:18:51crochet a total of seven times.
- 1:19:09And now we're going to increase twice.
- 1:19:20And now we're going to single crochet in
- 1:19:22the last seven stitches.
- 1:19:39And here's our wing closed. Now, you
- 1:19:41could fasten off here, but I personally
- 1:19:43like to add this extra joint here. I
- 1:19:45think it looks more dragonlike. What
- 1:19:47we're going to do is essentially surface
- 1:19:49crochet and start a new round. To do
- 1:19:51this, we're going to chain one,
- 1:19:54and we're working along the side of the
- 1:19:56wing, not these stitches here, but the
- 1:19:59side of the wing. And we're going to
- 1:20:01start by single crocheting into that
- 1:20:03kind of loop of that first single
- 1:20:05crochet. Like that. And then we're going
- 1:20:08to work in these rounds. So kind of like
- 1:20:11the front post of the single crochet up
- 1:20:14and towards that way. And we're just
- 1:20:15going to work our way down until we have
- 1:20:17a total of four single crochets. So go
- 1:20:19ahead and single crochet once, twice,
- 1:20:22and then three times. So now you have a
- 1:20:25total of four single crochets along the
- 1:20:28side of the wing. Now we're going to
- 1:20:30turn our work and we're going to work
- 1:20:32back the other way and repeat this same
- 1:20:34process. So 1 2 3 and four. This first
- 1:20:37one is a bit of a tight squeeze, so just
- 1:20:41try your best to get it in there.
- 1:20:55And there we have our extra joint
- 1:20:58started. We have one more round of
- 1:20:59single crocheting to go around all of
- 1:21:01these, but this is what it looks like so
- 1:21:03far. We're going to immediately go and
- 1:21:06join back into that first single crochet
- 1:21:09we made with a single crochet and single
- 1:21:11crochet in the remaining seven stitches.
- 1:21:26And now we're going to slip stitch into
- 1:21:27the next stitch, chain one, and fasten
- 1:21:29off. And you can leave a length of yarn
- 1:21:31for sewing. I'm going to leave a short
- 1:21:33end and join some new yarn onto this one
- 1:21:35because I can tell that this Sweet Snow
- 1:21:37is light is going to fall apart when I
- 1:21:39try and sew with it.
- 1:21:41Going to pull that out and I'll join an
- 1:21:43end later. It's in the same way that we
- 1:21:45did with the horn. So now the next step
- 1:21:47is to surface crochet. Here's what it
- 1:21:50looks like on this first wing. So, I do
- 1:21:53have a note about the surface crochet.
- 1:21:55And the note is that you want to start
- 1:21:57on one end for one wing and you want to
- 1:22:00start on the opposite end for a second
- 1:22:01[music] wing, unless you want the wrong
- 1:22:04side of the surface crochet to be up. If
- 1:22:06you don't mind that, that's fine. I just
- 1:22:08personally prefer to switch it. So, what
- 1:22:10I'll do is I'll show you how I [music]
- 1:22:11start here and go around and do the
- 1:22:13surface crochet. And what you can do is
- 1:22:16repeat that process, but start it on the
- 1:22:18other side instead. So, we're going to
- 1:22:19start by doing is creating a slip knot
- 1:22:22onto your hook with your primary color.
- 1:22:26And we're going to join with a single
- 1:22:27crochet to this very first stitch on the
- 1:22:30top of the joint we made. Like I said,
- 1:22:33join with a single crochet.
- 1:22:36Single crochet into the next stitch.
- 1:22:40Just like that. And now we're going to
- 1:22:41start working our way up the wing. And
- 1:22:44I'm going to go ahead and just single
- 1:22:46crochet along the top edge.
- 1:22:49until we arrive to the top point of the
- 1:22:52wing. So, here's the first round of the
- 1:22:55wing. And we're going to do is we're
- 1:22:56going to increase into that stitch right
- 1:22:58[music] up here on the top.
- 1:23:01Just like that. Another note about this
- 1:23:03is that I generally have to pull out the
- 1:23:06yarn and start again. Most
- 1:23:07[clears throat] of the time I make these
- 1:23:08wings. What you can do though is
- 1:23:10actually use a stitch marker to mark the
- 1:23:12stitches as you crochet [music] down the
- 1:23:15center. I just eyeball it and like I
- 1:23:17said, pull it out and adjust it as I
- 1:23:18need. This is kind of one of those
- 1:23:20things where it's different for
- 1:23:21everyone, different for every yarn type
- 1:23:22you use. Go ahead and single crochet all
- 1:23:25the way down until you hit the bottom of
- 1:23:27the wing.
- 1:23:30What I like to do is kind of pinch it in
- 1:23:32half and then crochet along
- 1:23:36where I pinched it.
- 1:23:54Okay, I think that looks fairly
- 1:23:56straight. So, now we're going to do into
- 1:23:58the top. This is where one of our
- 1:24:00increases is. We're just going to single
- 1:24:02crochet three into [music] that same
- 1:24:04stitch. So, three single crochets into
- 1:24:07the very tip of the bottom of the wing.
- 1:24:09Like that. Now we're going to turn our
- 1:24:11work and repeat what we did on the other
- 1:24:14side on this side. So just single
- 1:24:16crochet all the way back down to [music]
- 1:24:18the top of the wing again.
- 1:24:39I'm going check and make sure it's
- 1:24:40mostly straight. Looks pretty good to
- 1:24:42me. Now, what we're going to do is we're
- 1:24:43going to slip stitch into the top
- 1:24:45stitch. Whatever that may be. It might
- 1:24:47be on one side increase or the other
- 1:24:49side. Just whatever looks nice. Go ahead
- 1:24:51and slip stitch. I'm going to turn our
- 1:24:53work and work along the final edge. So,
- 1:24:55this is the top of the wing. First,
- 1:24:58before I do that, I like to take my hook
- 1:25:00and pull this very last single crochet
- 1:25:04at the bottom and just kind of
- 1:25:06straighten it out a little bit cuz
- 1:25:07sometimes it curls over. And there you
- 1:25:09go. See it sits a little bit better
- 1:25:10after you do that.
- 1:25:12And now, like I said, we're going to
- 1:25:13single crochet along the top edge to
- 1:25:16finish this wing off.
- 1:25:32And once you get to that very last
- 1:25:34stitch, we're going to increase into it.
- 1:25:40And then we're going to slip stitch.
- 1:25:45Chain one, fasten off. You don't need
- 1:25:48too long of an end. We're just going to
- 1:25:49go ahead and weave it right in.
- 1:25:52So, here is our wing finished. You can
- 1:25:54go ahead and adjust it with your hands,
- 1:25:57especially if you're using stiff yarn
- 1:25:58like I am. This blue right here is very
- 1:26:01stiff. And the final step is to weave in
- 1:26:04the primary color ends. So, what I'm
- 1:26:06going to do is thread my needle. I'm
- 1:26:09going to take this end through these
- 1:26:11stitches here and the next one as well.
- 1:26:16And then I'm going to thread it into the
- 1:26:19wing in between the two layers.
- 1:26:25And then I'm going to make sure that I
- 1:26:26didn't sew on either side accidentally.
- 1:26:28I've done that before. Secured it,
- 1:26:30weaved it in. It was very annoying.
- 1:26:34And then I'm going to do the same thing
- 1:26:35with the other side. Go ahead and thread
- 1:26:37it through these two stitches and then
- 1:26:40right into the body of the wing. That
- 1:26:43doesn't make any sense, but hopefully
- 1:26:45you understand what I'm trying to say.
- 1:26:47Bring those two ends together, tie them
- 1:26:49together, and then go ahead and weave
- 1:26:50them into the wing. So, I just I tuck
- 1:26:52them right in.
- 1:27:16Now go ahead and make two of these
- 1:27:18wings. Like I said, if you make the
- 1:27:22second wing, I recommend starting on the
- 1:27:24other corner and working your way up and
- 1:27:26around, but you don't have to do that if
- 1:27:28you don't want to, but I just think it
- 1:27:30looks a little bit nicer when you do it
- 1:27:31like that. Now that all the pieces are
- 1:27:32finished, we can go ahead and sew on the
- 1:27:34legs. And once the legs are joined,
- 1:27:36we'll crochet the spine. and then we'll
- 1:27:38sew everything else on. So, let's get
- 1:27:41this dragon finished. I have all of the
- 1:27:43pieces ready to go, including the fuzzy
- 1:27:46yarn when we get to that step. So, the
- 1:27:48first thing we're going to do is join
- 1:27:49the legs. Then, we're going to attach
- 1:27:51the fuzzy yarn. Let's go ahead and get
- 1:27:53started on these legs. This is probably
- 1:27:55going to take a while, so I apologize in
- 1:27:58advance, but if you watched any of my
- 1:27:59other tutorials, you know that I don't
- 1:28:01really like cutting out stuff because I
- 1:28:03know that people like to see the full
- 1:28:05process, especially when they're trying
- 1:28:06to make it on their own. At least I do.
- 1:28:08I mean, so I'm going to start with one
- 1:28:09of the legs. Doesn't matter which cuz
- 1:28:11they're all identical. Thread my needle.
- 1:28:13I'm going to use this metal needle
- 1:28:15because Naughty Pony is that good. I
- 1:28:17usually use a plastic needle if I'm
- 1:28:19going to sew with size six yarn, but
- 1:28:20Naughty Pony is so good. You can use a
- 1:28:21metal needle. What I like to do is just
- 1:28:23place them onto the body and eyeball
- 1:28:26placement. You all can pin them or use
- 1:28:30army sticks, whatever you'd like. I like
- 1:28:32to place the front legs past the single
- 1:28:35crochet rounds. This is the neck just uh
- 1:28:36behind it and then also slightly
- 1:28:38underneath the eyes. I think this
- 1:28:40placement is good. And I like to sew the
- 1:28:42legs on in a bit of an oval.
- 1:28:46So, kind of flatten it out a little bit
- 1:28:47and sew it on like that. Hopefully, you
- 1:28:49all can see it. And what I'm going to do
- 1:28:51is just attach the limbs first and then
- 1:28:53I'm going to go through and reinforce
- 1:28:55them. If you all have watched my recent
- 1:28:57videos, you know what I mean by
- 1:28:59reinforcing.
- 1:29:00But if you haven't, I have full crochet
- 1:29:02foundations on it. It is seriously the
- 1:29:04best technique for [music] attaching
- 1:29:07limbs, but also keeping it very clean.
- 1:29:09Also show you how to do that in this
- 1:29:11video, too, because why not?
- 1:29:14Try and make sure to keep the bobbles
- 1:29:16straight up. If they're leaning forward
- 1:29:19a little bit, that's fine, too. Just
- 1:29:20make sure you sew the other leg on to
- 1:29:23match it.
- 1:29:57And here's the leg joined on partially.
- 1:30:00So now I'm going to reinforce it. The
- 1:30:01way I do this is by grabbing the front
- 1:30:04post of the single crochet on the leg,
- 1:30:08pulling that through, and then sewing
- 1:30:10through the next stitch of the body.
- 1:30:13This seriously cleans up the seam so
- 1:30:14much. It's It's perfect.
- 1:30:20And I'm just going to repeat that all
- 1:30:21the way around. Grab the front post of
- 1:30:23the leg. Sew it against the body.
- 1:30:35Once I finish this, I'm going to go
- 1:30:36ahead and secure the end, weave it in,
- 1:30:38and then I'll show you where I place the
- 1:30:40second leg.
- 1:31:36Here
- 1:31:40is the first leg joined. It's right
- 1:31:43underneath the eyes and kind of facing
- 1:31:45down a little bit so that it is the most
- 1:31:47huggable. Now we're going to join on the
- 1:31:49next leg. I usually do this leg over
- 1:31:52here next. But I'm going to switch it up
- 1:31:53a little bit and sew this leg on first.
- 1:31:56So the back leg.
- 1:31:59Go ahead and thread your needle.
- 1:32:03And we're going to start sewing. I like
- 1:32:04to place this guy about even maybe even
- 1:32:08slightly lower [music] compared to this
- 1:32:10leg.
- 1:32:13And you want to leave around three clear
- 1:32:16rounds between the legs, but you can
- 1:32:17adjust this as needed. You might put
- 1:32:20more or less depending on all that stuff
- 1:32:22I usually list.
- 1:32:26So, I'm going to attach this one in the
- 1:32:27exact same way I did the first one, kind
- 1:32:29of in an ovally shape, starting by
- 1:32:31sewing everything together. And then I'm
- 1:32:33going to go through and reinforce it in
- 1:32:36the same way and weave the end in
- 1:34:22And here's the second leg joined. Here's
- 1:34:25placement if you guys are curious. Once
- 1:34:27it is attached, it's slightly lower than
- 1:34:29this leg. Now, we're going to attach the
- 1:34:32two other legs on the other side.
- 1:34:34Starting with the front leg.
- 1:34:39Go ahead and thread your needle.
- 1:34:42And I'm just going to line it up with
- 1:34:44the eyes so that it matches the other
- 1:34:46side. I think that looks pretty even.
- 1:34:50And then I'm going to be using my
- 1:34:52tracing method. I actually think I'm
- 1:34:53going to use it on the top though, so
- 1:34:55that the wings line up better. So I'm
- 1:34:57going to trace around the top to see
- 1:34:59where I want to end, which means the
- 1:35:01bottom will be slightly uneven. But it
- 1:35:04will, like I said, be easier to join the
- 1:35:06wings if the top is even.
- 1:35:21So, I trace using my finger, trace the
- 1:35:23two rounds, and then I know where the
- 1:35:26edge of the leg is going to go because
- 1:35:28of that.
- 1:35:31And then once I get closer to the other
- 1:35:32side, I will repeat it again so that the
- 1:35:35other side is also in line.
- 1:36:19Heat.
- 1:36:39Hey, heat. Hey, heat.
- 1:37:38And it's time to join on the final legs.
- 1:37:41We'll do it in the same way we did with
- 1:37:42the back leg over there. So, we're just
- 1:37:46going to make sure we line it up like we
- 1:37:48did with all the others. And once you
- 1:37:51finish with that, go ahead and secure
- 1:37:52the ends. Weave them in.
- 1:38:20Hey,
- 1:38:25hey, hey.
- 1:40:24And here are the legs joined. And that
- 1:40:26means we can start crocheting the spine
- 1:40:29detail. I'm going to be using stitch
- 1:40:31markers for this step just to make
- 1:40:33everything easier. But you do not need
- 1:40:35them most of the time. In fact, I don't
- 1:40:37use them. I just eyeball it. But I would
- 1:40:38like to get it right the first time in
- 1:40:40this video. So that is what we're going
- 1:40:41to do. To crochet the spine detail, what
- 1:40:43we're going to do is we're just going to
- 1:40:44crochet along the middle surface crochet
- 1:40:46along the middle of the plushy all the
- 1:40:49way down to I mean wherever you want to
- 1:40:51stop pretty much. So I'm going to start
- 1:40:52by marking the tail. So, just going to
- 1:40:55use a stitch marker to mark the center
- 1:40:58of the tail. Just like that. And we're
- 1:41:01just going to work our way up every,
- 1:41:04you know, couple of inches. We're going
- 1:41:05to add a stitch marker and just kind of
- 1:41:08try and keep everything in line. The
- 1:41:10where it really matters though is
- 1:41:12between the legs. So, you want to make
- 1:41:14sure that this is lined up and centered
- 1:41:17with both sets of legs. So, this one
- 1:41:19looks pretty centered to me. And now
- 1:41:23we're going to center up here as well.
- 1:41:25This is where we're going to be sewing
- 1:41:26our wings on. So, we want to make sure
- 1:41:28this is even as possible. That looks
- 1:41:31pretty even to me. Another stitch marker
- 1:41:33on the top of the head because it can be
- 1:41:35easy to lose track of things at the neck
- 1:41:38region. And then finally, one between
- 1:41:41the eyes, kind of about where you think
- 1:41:43you would want to stop with the surface
- 1:41:45crochet. And now you can just go ahead
- 1:41:46and look down this direction and make
- 1:41:49sure everything is lined up. we're going
- 1:41:50to do is use our fuzzy yarn and we're
- 1:41:53going to create a slip knot onto our
- 1:41:55hook
- 1:42:02and we're going to join at the tail. So,
- 1:42:04I'm going to join with a single crochet
- 1:42:06at the very tip of the tail.
- 1:42:11And we're just going to start single
- 1:42:12crocheting until we reach our first
- 1:42:14stitch marker. Make sure that everything
- 1:42:17kind of lines up with it as you crochet.
- 1:42:23And you can just go ahead and remove the
- 1:42:25stitch markers as you go. So, I'm just
- 1:42:27doing simple single crochets because the
- 1:42:29fuzzy yarn once you brush it out
- 1:42:30especially, it'll look really nice.
- 1:42:59Hey,
- 1:43:06hey, hey.
- 1:43:24Hey.
- 1:43:34Hey. Hey.
- 1:44:07Once you arrive at the very top, what
- 1:44:10we're going to do is slip stitch into
- 1:44:11the next stitch,
- 1:44:14chain one, and fasten off with a short
- 1:44:16end because we're just going to weave
- 1:44:17this right in.
- 1:44:23Now, a very important step with the
- 1:44:25fluff is to brush it. I totally forgot
- 1:44:27to list that in the requirements. not
- 1:44:30requirements, the materials. I just use
- 1:44:32this metal brush here. It is technically
- 1:44:34a pet brush, but I do not use it on
- 1:44:36animals. This is simply for crochet. I
- 1:44:38personally have never had an issue with
- 1:44:40this tearing up the Sweet Smells Light
- 1:44:43or Naughty Pony. But don't brush it too
- 1:44:45hard. Just be careful. I kind of like
- 1:44:47fold the tail detail out of the way. And
- 1:44:50then I kind of brush up the sides, the
- 1:44:53top, and then the other side as well.
- 1:44:58It's just you just need a light hand. It
- 1:45:00doesn't need to be too crazy.
- 1:45:03And here you can already see the
- 1:45:05difference where you here you can
- 1:45:06clearly see the stitches here. It is
- 1:45:09nice and fuzzy. I'm going to do this all
- 1:45:11the way down and then I'll show you how
- 1:45:12to weave in these ends.
- 1:45:50This is good enough for now. I will
- 1:45:51probably do a little bit more brushing
- 1:45:53once it is finished. Let's weave these
- 1:45:56ends in. I simply just tuck them in.
- 1:45:58Like they're not going to come out very
- 1:45:59easily unless somebody is like trying to
- 1:46:02pull it out. So I'm just going to weave
- 1:46:05them right in. Both ends are knotted
- 1:46:06anyways.
- 1:46:11Before I weave it in fully, I'm going to
- 1:46:13brush it a little bit
- 1:46:16just to clean up that end there
- 1:46:20and then finish weaving it in.
- 1:46:32And we're going to do the same exact
- 1:46:33thing on this other side.
- 1:47:02And here's the fluff added to the spine.
- 1:47:06This guy is looking very bright now. Now
- 1:47:09we're going to add the wings. That's
- 1:47:12what I like to add next. To attach the
- 1:47:14wings, we're going to make sure that our
- 1:47:16right side is up. So this guy is going
- 1:47:18to go over here. I like to sew the joint
- 1:47:20flat about here. So around back from
- 1:47:24where the legs end. And I just sew it
- 1:47:26across and then I come back down,
- 1:47:28reinforce it, and then I sew a little
- 1:47:30bit over here. So I'll just take you
- 1:47:32step by step through this first one. And
- 1:47:33then the second one is pretty much the
- 1:47:35exact same thing except on the other
- 1:47:37side.
- 1:47:39Thread your needle. Start by joining
- 1:47:42right next to the fluff right here. Like
- 1:47:46I said, one round back from where the
- 1:47:48front legs end.
- 1:47:51And sew through both sides of the joint.
- 1:48:26Make sure to sew this part of the wing
- 1:48:28down as well.
- 1:48:46Now I'm going to go back over in that
- 1:48:48same method of reinforcing where I go
- 1:48:50around the front post of the single
- 1:48:52crochet [music] and reinforce this part
- 1:48:55of the wing.
- 1:49:18Hey everybody.
- 1:49:32And once you go all the way down, I like
- 1:49:34to secure the wing kind of going
- 1:49:36diagonally away from the spine so that
- 1:49:38it sits on top of the leg. So, I'm just
- 1:49:42going to go down
- 1:49:44and attach this. And then I'll reinforce
- 1:49:46it just like we did with the uh other
- 1:49:49side of the wing.
- 1:50:28And once you have finished securing the
- 1:50:29wing, we're just going to secure this
- 1:50:31end with a knot.
- 1:50:46And go ahead and weave it in.
- 1:51:10And now you're going to attach the wing
- 1:51:12in the exact same way on the other side.
- 1:51:15So you're going to join the flat part up
- 1:51:18against the head in line with the head
- 1:51:20and then reinforce it. Join the joint a
- 1:51:23little bit more, make it sit better, and
- 1:51:25then weave all the ends in.
- 1:51:46Hey, [music]
- 1:51:57hey,
- 1:51:59hey.
- 1:52:17Hey,
- 1:52:20hey, hey.
- 1:52:37Hey,
- 1:52:50hey, hey.
- 1:53:04N
- 1:53:06hey.
- 1:53:10N.
- 1:53:18Here
- 1:53:41are the wings joined. So, now it is time
- 1:53:43to finish the head. We're going to sew
- 1:53:45the horns on first. We're going to take
- 1:53:47our horn. We're going to thread our
- 1:53:50needle wherever mine ended up. Here it
- 1:53:52is. And now we're going to attach the
- 1:53:54horn. I like to attach the horns with
- 1:53:56the slight curve kind of diagonal from
- 1:54:00the spine, if that makes sense.
- 1:54:01Hopefully you guys can see what I'm
- 1:54:03talking about. And you want to be about
- 1:54:04two stitches away from the fluff if you
- 1:54:06pull it back.
- 1:55:07And once you've sewn it on all the way
- 1:55:09around, I'm going to do the same thing I
- 1:55:10did with the legs where I reinforce the
- 1:55:13horn. Once we're done with that, we'll
- 1:55:15weave in the ends.
- 1:56:30And here's the horn attached. So, I'm
- 1:56:31going to go ahead and weave this end in
- 1:57:18And here is the First horn attached. So
- 1:57:20now I'm going to join the second one.
- 1:57:22Try and make [music] sure to line up the
- 1:57:24front and the back of the horns. Attach
- 1:57:26the horn in the exact same manner. And
- 1:57:29then reinforce it and weave in [music]
- 1:57:31the ends.
- 1:58:24Hey,
- 1:58:31hey, hey.
- 1:59:30Here are the horns fully attached. So
- 1:59:32now the last thing we have to add are
- 1:59:34the ears. we're gonna do is you're going
- 1:59:36to attach the ears right against the
- 1:59:38horns. You want to line the back of the
- 1:59:40ear up with the back of the horn and
- 1:59:42then the front of the ear up with about
- 1:59:45the middle of the horn. So, I'm going to
- 1:59:46use my metal needle
- 1:59:49and I'm going to join the ear right up
- 1:59:52against the horn. Like I said, as close
- 1:59:54as you can get it.
- 1:59:56I'm going to sew the back side of the
- 1:59:59ear down.
- 2:00:51Once you sew the ear all the way down,
- 2:00:52we're going to turn and work our way
- 2:00:54back up.
- 2:01:18And we're going to go ahead and
- 2:01:19reinforce it in the same way we did with
- 2:01:21the horns and the legs. So around that
- 2:01:24front post and go all the way around one
- 2:01:27more time.
- 2:02:31Okay, once you go all the way around, I
- 2:02:32like to attach the first two rounds of
- 2:02:35the horns to the first two rounds of the
- 2:02:38ears. Technically, those are both the
- 2:02:39last rounds, but anyways, I'm going to
- 2:02:42attach these two rounds together and
- 2:02:43then these two rounds together. And I
- 2:02:45like to do that just cuz it makes it sit
- 2:02:47a little bit better.
- 2:03:23And once you're done with that, go ahead
- 2:03:24and secure the end and weave it in.
- 2:03:44Now you're going to attach the second
- 2:03:46ear in the exact same manner on the
- 2:03:48other side, securing it to the horn and
- 2:03:52reinforcing it in the exact same way.
- 2:05:49Hey,
