- 0:07Hello everyone. Hello everyone. So many
- 0:11of you are asking me, what is actually
- 0:14happening? I mean, so many teenagers,
- 0:18so many young adults are expressing
- 0:23some form of sexuality, sexual identity
- 0:26, gender identity—let's call it
- 0:29unconventional, atypical; uh, we could
- 0:32call it, uh, divergent, to use the
- 0:38terminology we use, you know, for
- 0:41neurodiversity: the LGBTQ + community
- 0:45is increasingly represented. But what
- 0:49is going on? A sign of the times? Has
- 0:51something changed? Well, honestly, I
- 0:56believe that nothing has changed in
- 1:00people's minds. In the sense that the
- 1:05forms of sexuality, the expression of
- 1:08sexuality, the manifestations, gender
- 1:11identity, sexual identity, uh, have not
- 1:15had any type of, let's say, structural
- 1:18change in people's minds or bodies.
- 1:22Actually, what has changed, and it has
- 1:24truly changed, is the possibility of
- 1:26expressing all of this. There is a wave
- 1:31of people who were once deeply
- 1:33destroyed in their existence by the
- 1:36impossibility of freely expressing
- 1:39their sexual identity, their gender
- 1:42identity, and let's also say all the
- 1:45variations implied by that plus in the
- 1:48LGBTQ + acronym. Uh, because there
- 1:53isn't even the idea of being able to
- 1:57define them all clearly and precisely
- 2:01with terms or with labels. Right? This
- 2:04is very important. Inclusivity should
- 2:08not be limited to identifying yourself
- 2:10anew, I might say, with a label. So,
- 2:14the possibility of being who you want
- 2:18to be in the absence of definitions is
- 2:21perhaps the most interesting, most true
- 2:25message of the cultural wave of the
- 2:28LGBTQ + community. And so I don't think
- 2:34anything has happened in the minds of
- 2:37kids, teenagers, young adults, or
- 2:40adults, but rather there is simply a
- 2:43movement of affirmation underway, of
- 2:46affirming who one is, without
- 2:48limitations, without stigma, or, to put
- 2:51it better, trying to work on reducing
- 2:54the stigma; because in reality, we
- 2:56still have so much of it. I repeat: so
- 3:01much stigma, because everything that
- 3:04diverges from the norm, whether it has
- 3:06to do with sexual identity, gender
- 3:09identity, or neurodiversity, is still
- 3:12abundantly subject to stigma. It's hard
- 3:16to imagine the world changing overnight
- 3:18, and indeed it doesn't, it doesn't
- 3:20change overnight. What we can say is
- 3:24that we are probably starting to be on
- 3:26the right path. Uh, this is very
- 3:31important because it’s not just a
- 3:33social and political issue, it is also
- 3:35important for health reasons. Let’s
- 3:40remember that sexual identity and
- 3:42gender identity, if they cannot be
- 3:45expressed and recognized in the most
- 3:47free and inclusive way possible, become
- 3:50a source of maladjustment for the
- 3:53people who find themselves in this
- 3:55condition. Consequently, this
- 3:59maladjustment can lead to severe
- 4:01psychological instability. Do you know
- 4:04how many people have taken their own
- 4:06lives, for example, due to issues
- 4:08related to sexual identity or gender
- 4:11identity? I’ll tell you: a lot,
- 4:13really a lot. And this is important to
- 4:15emphasize. How many people, when you
- 4:19try to understand better, when you
- 4:21study their suffering more closely, you
- 4:24realize perfectly well that it is
- 4:27always a problem of unrecognized sexual
- 4:30or gender identity. The fact is that
- 4:34this must be addressed, it must
- 4:37absolutely be reviewed, and above all,
- 4:39we psychiatrists must become much more
- 4:42expert in all of this than we are,
- 4:45because the possibility of guiding
- 4:47these people through paths of awareness
- 4:50and affirmation is truly important. It
- 4:54is something that truly changes the
- 4:57destiny, the existence, and the health
- 4:59of people who simply want to be who
- 5:02they are or become who they are. This
- 5:07is a topic that often generates discord
- 5:11and debate, because we are seeing a
- 5:15wave, a political resurgence of
- 5:18rigidity—I am tempted to say of......
- 5:24of violence toward personal freedom.
- 5:29Well, all the various discourses about
- 5:33the Catholic family—precise, perfect,
- 5:37totally adherent to the norm—honestly
- 5:41, this is something that can no longer
- 5:45be heard, and it objectively should be
- 5:49cast aside by politics, and we should
- 5:55start doing something that has more
- 5:58solid social and scientific foundations
- 6:01. I don’t know what to say; actually,
- 6:06let me know what you think about all
- 6:07this, because there will surely be
- 6:09someone who says, "Oh come on, we’re
- 6:10exaggerating; things weren't like that
- 6:12in the past." No, things were exactly
- 6:16like that; they simply weren't talked
- 6:18about, and people who had different
- 6:20sexual or gender identities suffered—
- 6:23that is the word—they suffered, no
- 6:25ifs, ands, or buts. Consequently, I
- 6:29believe that what is happening today is
- 6:32simply not just a change, but the
- 6:34possibility to affirm oneself for who
- 6:36one is. Let me know what you think; it
- 6:39is very important. I want to ask if you
- 6:43are aware that on November 28th we are
- 6:47holding our event in Bologna called "
- 6:50Diversamente.""Diversamente" is an
- 6:55event created precisely in this spirit,
- 6:59that of inclusivity, which is the
- 7:02possibility of ensuring that people can
- 7:05be what they want to be and who they
- 7:08actually are. Um, well, I recommend you
- 7:13take a look at "Diversamente," because
- 7:16we didn't think so many people would be
- 7:19interested. I think we will easily fill
- 7:23a hall of more than 800 people, and
- 7:26that's great news because it means the
- 7:29topic of neurodiversity, and perhaps
- 7:32diversity in general, really resonates
- 7:35with people. So, take a look down in
- 7:38the description for "Diversamente," or
- 7:39search on Google for "Diversamente
- 7:41Valerio Rosso Life Fology" and you'll
- 7:42find everything. You still have the
- 7:45chance to buy a ticket because we have
- 7:47many more available. We changed venues,
- 7:49we have a new hall that is much bigger
- 7:52and much more spacious, so please don't
- 7:56miss out, "Diversamente" Bologna,
- 7:58November 28, 2026. See you there. Bye
- 8:02to all the ladies. Bye to everyone.
- 8:03Greetings from.
