  1. 0:01yes this is the pose you meant I know um
  2. 0:04let's do it this is going to be probably
  3. 0:07the the hardest one of the evening but
  4. 0:10it's a great one to finish on there's
  5. 0:12our
  6. 0:14timer let's go and
  7. 0:17obviously really want to leave enough
  8. 0:19room for ourselves over this side of the
  9. 0:26page okay shoulder's going to be about
  10. 0:29there
  11. 0:33uper to
  12. 0:39so more just like that
  13. 1:02now
  14. 1:04okay maneuver
  15. 1:06him clavicle coming up shoulders
  16. 1:11there this arm coming across here look
  17. 1:14at the way the elbow is almost at the
  18. 1:15edge of the form
  19. 1:18there coming up something like that now
  20. 1:21the only reason I really want to get
  21. 1:23that in at this
  22. 1:25point is because look at
  23. 1:28where the calf is
  24. 1:32calf is starting about
  25. 1:36here yeah what a crazy
  26. 1:42B and
  27. 1:46then this foot is essentially as big as
  28. 1:50her
  29. 1:54Raposa we just get a sense for put that
  30. 1:58there
  31. 2:00I probably didn't need to come quite as
  32. 2:02far over this way as I have but my
  33. 2:05instinct was telling me I would need
  34. 2:08it okay
  35. 2:12so and we know that this is
  36. 2:16really almost aggressively
  37. 2:23foreshortened so if let's just suppose
  38. 2:26that her shoulder is here
  39. 2:30look at how close that heel
  40. 2:33is the heel is about
  41. 2:39there and then from
  42. 2:43there come up this
  43. 2:45way to above this
  44. 2:50line and that's where her little toe
  45. 2:54is then we come out further for the for
  46. 2:58the toes
  47. 3:02it's a whole different way of
  48. 3:09thinking okay so we got the mass of the
  49. 3:12foot in
  50. 3:21there the
  51. 3:22[Music]
  52. 3:24heel
  53. 3:27Arch sitting about there
  54. 3:36and then her her
  55. 3:40toes
  56. 3:43there
  57. 3:46madness
  58. 3:48Okay so this
  59. 3:57leg it's about here
  60. 4:29something like
  61. 4:32that clavicle coming up this
  62. 4:39way that arm is going up
  63. 4:46there something like
  64. 4:55that the head will be approximately here
  65. 5:12foot as large as AO hard to sell yeah
  66. 5:14but look at
  67. 5:16it really is
  68. 5:26um that's great Helen I'm glad that
  69. 5:28you're smiling that's that's a good
  70. 5:32thing
  71. 5:38okay that leg is going to be about there
  72. 5:41now if we look at where this
  73. 5:45knee like once again what's the overall
  74. 5:49negative shape telling me here this knee
  75. 5:52is sitting about here right
  76. 6:00and then just as a very very basic shape
  77. 6:02because that's all we can do right now
  78. 6:04it's one step at a time we'll start with
  79. 6:06our basic
  80. 6:09shapes that leg is doing
  81. 6:16that the ankle is
  82. 6:20sitting around
  83. 6:23here actually maybe a little higher
  84. 6:32and this foot is coming out this
  85. 6:45[Music]
  86. 6:52way okay let's actually think about this
  87. 6:55for a
  88. 6:58minute
  89. 7:02Anatomy the T cuz yeah this uh the
  90. 7:06setting on glass thing is distorting the
  91. 7:08form so I really want to try and think
  92. 7:10of it in correct terms if at all
  93. 7:14possible
  94. 7:22um she this legs over this way
  95. 7:41something like that
  96. 8:09okay so I've got something's off here
  97. 8:12but I think this is all roughly right
  98. 8:14but I haven't enough volume down here
  99. 8:17fact I haven't given myself enough of an
  100. 8:18angle here that kind of resolves
  101. 8:23it I was just not being quite generous
  102. 8:26enough with my lower torso
  103. 8:32about
  104. 8:33there okay I can live with
  105. 8:39that
  106. 8:43cool
  107. 8:53okay
  108. 8:56so delto
  109. 9:06Center Line is about there
  110. 9:14actually deltoid is sitting
  111. 9:21there
  112. 9:25tricep forarm
  113. 9:35by
  114. 9:51So Okay so
  115. 10:01ear is about
  116. 10:24here about there I think
  117. 10:45okay balr ask perhaps you've mentioned
  118. 10:48this earlier is line of action something
  119. 10:50you ever start with your drawings with
  120. 10:52many books I've seen seem to be
  121. 10:53mentioning the importance of drawing
  122. 10:55that and I don't get the importance of
  123. 10:56them to be honest um
  124. 11:01yes absolutely uh line of action is very
  125. 11:04very important and the reason I don't
  126. 11:07talk about it is because I kind of
  127. 11:09discuss it in different in different
  128. 11:12terms when I'm talking about finding the
  129. 11:14large idea of something that's
  130. 11:16essentially what the line of action is
  131. 11:18you know sometimes I'll talk about
  132. 11:19there's extension on one side and then
  133. 11:21there's compression on the other you
  134. 11:23could say that that extension or you
  135. 11:25know that extension follows from one
  136. 11:27side of the rib cage through to the
  137. 11:28support leg that type of thing this is
  138. 11:31all essentially line of action um I
  139. 11:34don't use that term very often even
  140. 11:36though it's a term that I come from
  141. 11:37animation obviously and it's a term
  142. 11:39that's uh thrown around in animation all
  143. 11:41the time um we're using we are using
  144. 11:45those types of principles I'm looking
  145. 11:46for line of action all the time and I I
  146. 11:49do discuss it I just don't use that word
  147. 11:51if that makes
  148. 11:53sense um but we are thinking in those
  149. 11:56terms and in fact balr I will I'll try
  150. 11:58and make a point of of mentioning it
  151. 12:01more or when I'm using a different
  152. 12:03terminology for it I'll try and be more
  153. 12:05mindful to to mention this line of
  154. 12:07action thing because it is a concept
  155. 12:09that gets talked about obviously an
  156. 12:11awful lot and it's a very important
  157. 12:13concept
  158. 12:15um yeah I just I tend to just think of
  159. 12:19it in slightly different terms let's say
  160. 12:21not even think of it in different terms
  161. 12:23I guess I just talk about it in
  162. 12:24different
  163. 12:27terms okay
  164. 12:31so we got
  165. 12:34the Cal sitting in
  166. 12:45there the heel is
  167. 12:55there do something like that
  168. 13:23okay Elon thank you I'm glad to hear it
  169. 13:26that's great really glad to hear it's
  170. 13:27helping
  171. 13:29that's nice it's always nice to
  172. 13:40hear so we're not going to get into all
  173. 13:44the toes here I don't
  174. 13:46think
  175. 13:49cuz it could just become too
  176. 13:53much will suggest
  177. 13:57them so we got
  178. 14:02this it's almost like this yeah the the
  179. 14:06pads of the feet sitting in there
  180. 14:17right and then we got some Anatomy kind
  181. 14:21of we need to be mindful of in
  182. 14:24here but once again you know you could
  183. 14:27you could very easily turn this into
  184. 14:29into a 2hour drawing if you really want
  185. 14:31to start explaining all the different
  186. 14:33anatomical
  187. 14:35ideas um I think that's probably a
  188. 14:38session for another day
  189. 15:00Helen let's let's talk about that in the
  190. 15:02next session okay because this pose is
  191. 15:05not really going to help us understand
  192. 15:08that um to be honest with you um but
  193. 15:12remind me if I don't think of it will
  194. 15:14you remind me in the next session on
  195. 15:15Saturday to to to talk about it um
  196. 15:19because I think that's
  197. 15:20easier
  198. 15:22um but but you could say like you know
  199. 15:25just even
  200. 15:27here this is the line of action of this
  201. 15:30foot right it's doing that type of thing
  202. 15:34that's essentially what the line of
  203. 15:35action is for for that particular idea
  204. 15:39right but I I will talk about it in more
  205. 15:42depth I just said we're a little late in
  206. 15:44the proceedings right now to to get into
  207. 15:46a whole um and I'd like to find a pose
  208. 15:49where I can really I can demonstrate it
  209. 15:52in a very very clear way so there's no
  210. 15:55ambiguity about what it is that I'm
  211. 15:57saying
  212. 15:59[Music]
  213. 16:35this has been quite the session
  214. 17:19not happy with this shape
  215. 17:43that and for those of you who want to
  216. 17:45continue on Beyond this pose the poses
  217. 17:49that we didn't use I would normally
  218. 17:51remove from the website just to keep
  219. 17:53things clean I'll leave them up for the
  220. 17:56next day or two and then I'll probably
  221. 17:58take them them down so if you do want to
  222. 18:00continue practicing with
  223. 18:02them um you'll have a day or so with
  224. 18:08them but you never know there might be
  225. 18:11poses there that we'll want to keep for
  226. 18:12a future session so I will take them
  227. 18:15down in a couple of
  228. 18:20days how about this I'll leave them up
  229. 18:22till I put up the session the the poses
  230. 18:25for Saturday
  231. 18:35need to pop in her rip cage
  232. 18:40there all right I think I'm getting
  233. 18:44close here
  234. 19:15all right I think that this
  235. 19:17is kind of at a point
  236. 19:23where if I go too much further I'm kind
  237. 19:25of going into a whole another stage of
  238. 19:27drawing and
  239. 19:31there's really not the time to take this
  240. 19:35through another
  241. 19:42stage so I think this is probably as
  242. 19:45good a point as any
  243. 19:48to call it a day
  244. 20:08well mil you're too kind thank you so
  245. 20:11much again um You' very very
  246. 20:16generous
  247. 20:18um guys what can I
  248. 20:22say that's uh that was uh that was quite
  249. 20:26the session huh
