  1. 0:00I'm Joe Feller. I'm a professor at the
  2. 0:01Cork University Business School. My name
  3. 0:03is Drew Bent and I'm a teacher,
  4. 0:06programmer, and a member of technical
  5. 0:08staff at Enthropic. My name is Rick
  6. 0:10Dacon from the Ringling College of Art
  7. 0:11and Design. I'm Maggie Vo and I work on
  8. 0:14the education research team at
  9. 0:15Enthropic.
  10. 0:22Let's begin our exploration of the AI
  11. 0:24fluency framework.
  12. 0:30The focus of this course is not really
  13. 0:32about AI as a technology. Instead, it's
  14. 0:35mostly about you and I, us humans, and
  15. 0:37how we interact and collaborate with AI
  16. 0:40systems. It's about imagining
  17. 0:42possibilities that don't treat AI as
  18. 0:45some sort of next level spellch checker,
  19. 0:47but instead as a trusted partner for
  20. 0:50doing creative and innovative problems
  21. 0:52solving work. And it's about approaching
  22. 0:54these possibilities confidently and
  23. 0:57capably. Let's face it, the AI world
  24. 1:00moves extremely quickly. And it's very
  25. 1:03hard to know where to start or how to
  26. 1:05keep up unless you have a grounding
  27. 1:07fundamental framework to guide you and
  28. 1:10get you past that next prompt
  29. 1:11engineering fad. That's why we're
  30. 1:13publishing this course. In this course,
  31. 1:16we explore AI fluency, our ability to
  32. 1:19engage with AI systems in ways that are
  33. 1:22effective, efficient, ethical, and safe.
  34. 1:26You'll learn plenty of practical skills,
  35. 1:28but it isn't just another collection of
  36. 1:30technical definitions or prompting tips
  37. 1:32that may be outdated next month. This
  38. 1:35course is about fundamentally shifting
  39. 1:38how we approach AI.
  40. 1:41We want to change how we think about AI
  41. 1:44so that we can learn how to think with
  42. 1:47AI. Over the last few years, AI has
  43. 1:50transformed from specialized
  44. 1:52technologies to interactive systems that
  45. 1:55millions use daily at school, at work,
  46. 1:57and at home. This transformation creates
  47. 2:01both opportunities and
  48. 2:03uncertainty. We see organizations
  49. 2:06adopting AI without clear strategies. We
  50. 2:09watch people growing frustrated with
  51. 2:11systems that they don't fully
  52. 2:13understand. And we're all experiencing a
  53. 2:16widening gap between what's possible and
  54. 2:20what feels comfortable and
  55. 2:22intuitive. This course exists to help us
  56. 2:25bridge this gap
  57. 2:27together. Here's the journey we'll take
  58. 2:29across this course. First, we'll give an
  59. 2:31overview of the AI fluency framework, a
  60. 2:34model for human AI interaction that we
  61. 2:36have found useful and powerful. We'll
  62. 2:38discuss the ways we interact with AI
  63. 2:40systems and four core competencies which
  64. 2:42we call the four Ds that transform those
  65. 2:44interactions into something richer and
  66. 2:46much more rewarding. Then we'll look at
  67. 2:49each competency more closely. In brief,
  68. 2:51these are delegation which asks when
  69. 2:53should humans do work and when should AI
  70. 2:56description which asks how do we
  71. 2:58communicate clearly with AI systems?
  72. 3:01Discernment which asks how do we
  73. 3:03evaluate what AI gives us? and
  74. 3:05diligence, which asks, "How do we ensure
  75. 3:06our interaction with AI is responsible,
  76. 3:09transparent, and accountable?" Each
  77. 3:11section includes focused videos paired
  78. 3:12with exercises and materials to build
  79. 3:14practical understanding. We hope you'll
  80. 3:17spend much of your time during this
  81. 3:18course trying what you're learning.
  82. 3:20You'll also hear directly from a few of
  83. 3:22us at Anthropic about what makes today's
  84. 3:24AI different from previous technologies,
  85. 3:26the real capabilities and limitations of
  86. 3:29these systems, and practical techniques
  87. 3:31that apply the 4Ds. Most AI training
  88. 3:34focuses solely on tactical skills like
  89. 3:36specific prompts, which settings to
  90. 3:38adjust or which systems to use. While
  91. 3:40useful, these skills can quickly become
  92. 3:42outdated. We're taking a different
  93. 3:44approach and focusing on core
  94. 3:45competencies and deep understanding so
  95. 3:48that you're prepared not just for
  96. 3:49today's AI, but for the changes to come.
  97. 3:52By the end of our time together, you'll
  98. 3:54have a framework to guide your own
  99. 3:55interactions with AI, confidence in
  100. 3:58deciding when and how to engage AI
  101. 3:59effectively, practical skills for more
  102. 4:02thoughtful and fluid human AI
  103. 4:03collaboration, and the ability to
  104. 4:05evaluate and take responsibility for the
  105. 4:07outcomes of these collaborations. Thank
  106. 4:09you for joining us.
