  1. 0:00Professor John Lennox is answering the
  2. 0:02hardest question you can be asked and
  3. 0:04he's giving the greatest answer I have
  4. 0:06ever heard. Certainly in 4 and 1/2
  5. 0:08minutes. Alex Okconor is the agnostic
  6. 0:10who is asking this question and he
  7. 0:12begins by explaining where he's coming
  8. 0:14from spiritually speaking. I'm not a
  9. 0:16Christian and that has a lot to do with
  10. 0:18my lack of trust in the reliability of
  11. 0:21of not so much the gospels as a whole
  12. 0:24but particularly things like the
  13. 0:25resurrection narratives. Um, but this
  14. 0:29this team
  15. 0:31of religion is bad and evil and
  16. 0:34corrupting of thought. I'm not on that
  17. 0:37boat. He's not with the new atheists.
  18. 0:39Yes. Or nor am I. And I'm also not on
  19. 0:42the boat of saying that God doesn't
  20. 0:44exist and religion is false. I I'm more
  21. 0:46of an agnostic. Yes. These days, but I
  22. 0:50tend to take a more critical tone um
  23. 0:53because that's just sort of who I am and
  24. 0:55what I do. But I I think I remain quite
  25. 0:57thoroughly agnostic, which is one of the
  26. 0:58reasons it's quite difficult to
  27. 1:00interrogate my beliefs because there are
  28. 1:01so so few of them that are solidly held.
  29. 1:04Um, but one of them would be, for
  30. 1:06example, so there's the reliability of
  31. 1:09scripture, but when you're talking about
  32. 1:10theism as opposed to Christianity, one
  33. 1:12of them really is the the problem of
  34. 1:13evil. I do find it mysterious and
  35. 1:16bewildering. Oh, it's it's the hard
  36. 1:18question for any worldview. Then the one
  37. 1:21of the reasons why it actually comes up
  38. 1:22so little is because it almost feels
  39. 1:25trivial to bring up because it's the
  40. 1:27obvious point. It is the argument. Yeah.
  41. 1:29And it's been discussed ad nauseium.
  42. 1:31Earlier in this fantastic discussion
  43. 1:32between Alex Okconor and John Lennox,
  44. 1:35Alex actually says one of his favorite
  45. 1:37arguments for the existence of God is
  46. 1:38that there are so many arguments for
  47. 1:40God's existence. That might make you
  48. 1:42believe that there is a God because you
  49. 1:43can actually make an argument for God's
  50. 1:45existence out of really anything in
  51. 1:48human existence. But on the other side
  52. 1:50of the scales, there is this one
  53. 1:51question, this hardest question.
