- 0:01Uh, research shows that leadership
- 0:03skills are not innate, that they're
- 0:06learned, number one, and there have been
- 0:09so many studies, including of twins.
- 0:11>> Mhm. So, genetic, genetic
- 0:12>> Genetic, born the same minute
- 0:15>> same family.
- 0:16>> family, the same social context, the
- 0:18same socioeconomic scenario, and um,
- 0:22found that leadership was more
- 0:24influenced by non-genetic factors. It's
- 0:27all about the learning and the intention
- 0:30to become a leader.
- 0:31>> Yeah.
- 0:32>> So, the reason I love this conversation
- 0:34that we're having is that ultimately
- 0:37leadership is a state
- 0:39>> Mhm.
- 0:39>> not a trait, and anyone can become a
- 0:42leader.
- 0:42>> Wait, wait, say
- 0:43say more. State, not a trait.
- 0:45>> Leadership is a state and not a trait,
- 0:47and that anyone
- 0:49>> Mhm.
- 0:49>> can become a leader.
- 0:50>> Yeah, and that's what we hope that you
- 0:52take away from this perspective, right?
- 0:55That all of you have the small L, you
- 0:57got to make it a big L. That requires
- 1:00skill building, practice, education,
- 1:04having mentors, all those elements that
- 1:07that allow you to become mate as a
- 1:08leader.
- 1:09>> And experiences.
- 1:10>> Yeah.
- 1:11>> So, learning experiences are incredibly
- 1:14uh, important. Even if you want to grow
- 1:16within an organization, take the types
- 1:19of jobs that maximizes your learning.
- 1:22Uh, over time,
- 1:24uh, you will end up in a position to
- 1:26take over and lead in some capacity, but
- 1:29you always will start small.
- 1:30>> Yeah.
- 1:30>> necessarily, but so uh, the education is
- 1:33important. A program like this is
- 1:35invaluable in my mind because we're
- 1:38actually um,
- 1:40giving you the blueprint.
- 1:41>> Yes. Yes.
