- 0:01Welcome to Laundromat News today. I am
- 0:05my mom's favorite Laundromat News
- 0:07anchor, Jordan Berry, here with news
- 0:09from around the world, all things
- 0:11Laundromat related. We're going to kick
- 0:14it off with a segment of our news called
- 0:17spotlight on the industry. And let's
- 0:20kick it off with Alliance Laundry
- 0:21Holdings. Let's take a peek at what is
- 0:23going on there. They've been making a
- 0:27steady growth since the end of March.
- 0:30Um they're up about 29 over a little
- 0:34over 29% up to 25.19
- 0:37as of reporting of this
- 0:39per share. So, making a strong comeback
- 0:42after a little bit of a lull for a
- 0:44little while. So, keep an eye on that.
- 0:47And also spotlight on the industry,
- 0:49shout-out to Franchise Laundry Lab,
- 0:51which is opening a new
- 0:54Oklahoma City store with a free
- 0:56community event.
- 0:58Which is great. All right, let's move
- 1:01over to a new segment called lessons
- 1:03from laundromats.
- 1:06Uh we'll kick this segment off with a
- 1:08story that comes right out of my heart
- 1:11and my home, Los Angeles. Chinatown
- 1:15actually in Los Angeles has no
- 1:16laundromats. So, somebody pulled up with
- 1:21a laundry truck into Chinatown to help
- 1:25people do their laundry. So, shout-out
- 1:28to the ingenuity out there in Chinatown.
- 1:31Something to keep in mind, always
- 1:32looking for opportunities. And again
- 1:35from lessons in laundromats, I had to
- 1:37mention this one. I try to avoid like
- 1:40too much bad news. Um but this one was
- 1:43just all over the place. Um an ATM was
- 1:46stolen from a laundromat after a U-Haul
- 1:48crashed into the shopping center
- 1:51storefronts in Cobb County. So,
- 1:54uh listen, I I don't really know what
- 1:56the lesson is here other than uh maybe
- 1:59get those metal poles in front of your
- 2:00stores.
- 2:02Uh but man, the lengths people go to.
- 2:04I've had an ATM stolen. I've had stuff
- 2:06stolen out of my stores and it's not
- 2:08fun. So,
- 2:09uh hey.
- 2:10Mind your business, protect your
- 2:11business, and uh yeah.
- 2:14I guess that's the lesson to be learned.
- 2:16All right, let's move over to a segment
- 2:18called good news in the laundromat
- 2:20industry and we'll kick that one off
- 2:21with Jasmine Connolly who's an army
- 2:23veteran that is providing laundry relief
- 2:26in defiance uh particularly after a
- 2:30tornado just struck there um and is
- 2:33using her laundry facilities to uh help
- 2:37provide laundry for people uh who
- 2:40otherwise can't have clean clothes. And
- 2:43uh there's there's a cool little video.
- 2:44We've got a link to this and all these
- 2:46stories. Make sure you're on our
- 2:48newsletter at laundromatresource.com.
- 2:50Go sign up over there to get links to
- 2:52all these articles that'll be sent out.
- 2:55Um but there's a video there where uh
- 2:58they're interviewing some people who've
- 3:00you know gone through this tornado and
- 3:02are just feeling grateful for having a
- 3:04laundry facility. So, again, I just want
- 3:06to punctuate
- 3:08we can make a real big difference.
- 3:10Doesn't even have to be during the
- 3:11disaster. Look for ways to use your
- 3:14business for good like I know a lot of
- 3:16you guys are. And by the way, if you are
- 3:19doing something cool for your community
- 3:20and you want it highlighted on the news,
- 3:23uh don't be shy. Shoot us an email at
- 3:25[email protected]
- 3:27and we'll make sure we'll get it into a
- 3:28future episode. Um okay.
- 3:31Uh I want to spotlight some events
- 3:33happening around the industry. Well,
- 3:35I've got one uh today. But if you've got
- 3:38an event out there or if you know of a
- 3:40laundromat event happening out there,
- 3:42big or small, local, global,
- 3:44national, whatever, regional,
- 3:47uh we want to spotlight them on here
- 3:49just to get us together as an industry.
- 3:52And uh I know there's an event happening
- 3:54called the laund- uh Vended Laundry
- 3:56Experience in uh I think it's in Austin.
- 4:00Um yeah, it's in Austin and it's on San
- 4:02Antonio Street. That's why I got
- 4:04confused, but it's in Austin, Texas.
- 4:06It's coming up on April 23rd, so make
- 4:08sure you check that out, especially if
- 4:10you're in that area. Um you can get down
- 4:12there, meet some cool people. I believe
- 4:15the Waleed Cope is going to be there.
- 4:17So, listen, that's worth a trek even if
- 4:20you're not in the area. Go hang out with
- 4:22Waleed and some other laundromat
- 4:24industry
- 4:26uh aficionados.
- 4:28Okay, uh we've got some international
- 4:30news, so let's kick it out to a place I
- 4:33just recently was at actually in
- 4:36Singapore.
- 4:37And uh just an interesting story out of
- 4:40Singapore, Fresh Laundry in Singapore
- 4:43was ranked number 37
- 4:46among the fastest growing companies in
- 4:48Singapore. So, listen, laundromats are
- 4:51kind of a big deal and
- 4:53uh
- 4:54a big part of that is because of you
- 4:56guys up in the game. So, continue to up
- 4:58the game and continue to look for
- 5:00opportunities. That's what what's going
- 5:02to keep our industry improving, serving
- 5:04our communities better, and you more
- 5:07profitable. And uh I think
- 5:10that's we want all three of those, I
- 5:11think.
- 5:12Um okay, we're keeping it international
- 5:14here for a couple more stories. Let's
- 5:16head over to London where um Asda, which
- 5:20I believe is a supermark, I think it's
- 5:22pronounced Asda and I apologize for any
- 5:24of you uh Brits out there if I'm not
- 5:27pronouncing it right, but um they have
- 5:30uh just introduced 700 self-serve
- 5:34laundry machines in their stores. Now,
- 5:35what they what they have over there, and
- 5:38I've seen this around in Europe
- 5:40and a little bit in Asia, too. Um but
- 5:42they have uh
- 5:44essentially like uh panels of like, you
- 5:46know, three to six washers and dryers
- 5:50that'll sit in a parking lot or I've
- 5:52seen them at like train stations, things
- 5:54like that. And so these are basically
- 5:57mini laundromats that they're putting up
- 5:59in these
- 6:00supermarkets. And we've we've talked
- 6:02about this in the past before of other
- 6:04people doing this, but they're doing it
- 6:05at a bigger scale here.
- 6:06700 machines that they're starting with
- 6:09so that people can throw their laundry
- 6:11in, go do their shopping, pick up their
- 6:13laundry, and head home. All their chores
- 6:15checked off their list. That really that
- 6:19model really hasn't caught on here in
- 6:20the US yet. But listen, if you're
- 6:23interested in doing it, keep me posted.
- 6:25I'd love to hear how it goes.
- 6:27Okay, and one other international piece
- 6:32of news that we have here is
- 6:35um
- 6:36in South Korea, they are introducing,
- 6:41and this is kind of a good news /
- 6:42international news, but they're
- 6:44introducing a program to help
- 6:47mental health and suicide prevention
- 6:50through the local laundromats and
- 6:52particularly unattended laundromats.
- 6:54They're providing a lot of resources in
- 6:56those spaces so that while people are
- 6:59doing their laundry, they can do kind of
- 7:01a mental health checkup and and get some
- 7:04resources if they're struggling with
- 7:06their mental health. So again, you know,
- 7:07I know a lot of a lot of people out
- 7:09there are struggling with mental health.
- 7:12And
- 7:13listen, there's lots of ways we can do
- 7:14good. So shout out to South Korea for
- 7:17utilizing laundromats to try to tackle
- 7:19this issue.
- 7:20And finally, a segment I like to call
- 7:24laundromats in pop culture. I just
- 7:27called it that right now, so that's what
- 7:29I'm going to call it.
- 7:31There is an article, an interesting
- 7:33article. It's coming out of Australia,
- 7:35but it's kind of an international
- 7:37article talking about the gold coin rush
- 7:41and how Tik Tok, and some of you guys
- 7:43out there and your Tik Tok channels has
- 7:46spun up this interest in laundromats and
- 7:49how it the industry is booming and
- 7:52demand for laundromats is booming. If
- 7:53you're out there trying to buy your
- 7:54first laundromat, you know what I'm
- 7:56talking about. Demand for this industry
- 7:59is booming and a big part of that's
- 8:01because of social media. So, who would
- 8:02ever thought that our little industry
- 8:05would be, you know, Tik Tok famous? But,
- 8:08here we are Tik Tok famous and some of
- 8:10you guys in particular Tik Tok famous
- 8:13and
- 8:14kudos to you guys. So,
- 8:16that's it for news around the industry
- 8:19and around the world. We'll be back next
- 8:21week with all the latest and greatest
- 8:23articles. Again, if you have an event or
- 8:26if you are doing something good in your
- 8:28community through your laundromat or you
- 8:30just have some news that you want
- 8:32released out to the industry, big or
- 8:34small, whether you're an individual
- 8:36laundromat or you're a company serving
- 8:38the industry, shoot us over,
- 8:41you know, a press release or just an
- 8:43email. It doesn't have to be formal.
- 8:44[email protected].
- 8:46We'd love to have you featured and get
- 8:48the word out to cool stuff happening
- 8:50around the world in our industry. All
- 8:53right, we'll see you next week.
