  46. 1:53was going to be a difficult ride it
  47. 1:56wasn't gonna go over well and it wasn't
  48. 1:58gonna be received well and there was
  49. 2:01gonna be a lot of hate and a lot of hurt
  50. 2:04feelings a lot of people in Austin felt
  51. 2:06betrayed yeah
  52. 2:07what do you say to them you know I I say
  53. 2:13and I do that because I
  54. 2:14told it you know at times to my face and
  55. 2:18while some people may think that that
  56. 2:20would make me angry or I would it would
  57. 2:22be confrontational I understand I
  58. 2:26totally get it and if if they're mad
  59. 2:33forever I also understand that you know
  60. 2:35if it's if it's unforgivable there's
  61. 2:39nothing I can do about that I can't I
  62. 2:41can't change it I can't fight it and he
  63. 2:43says he understands the hurt of those
  64. 2:45people who defended him and believed in
  65. 2:48him at every turn and now they felt like
  66. 2:51they were complicit which is a whole
  67. 2:54nother layer to betrayal the toughest
  68. 2:57conversation had to be with your family
  69. 3:00your kids
  70. 3:01well it's your right I mean it was not
  71. 3:05it was not an easy conversation but it's
  72. 3:07also not it's not over all of my kids no
  73. 3:12matter how old they are we'll watch the
  74. 3:14Oprah interview the older ones watched
  75. 3:16it live I can't say hey we talked about
  76. 3:18that ten years ago this is over and
  77. 3:20that's the deal that I have with them we
  78. 3:22can talk about this whenever you want so
  79. 3:24it's it's an ongoing commitment and
  80. 3:27promise to them as for cycling he still
  81. 3:30rides almost every day for me it's a
  82. 3:32place to you know clear my head almost
  83. 3:36almost like I'm my own little private
  84. 3:38therapy when it comes to LIVESTRONG the
  85. 3:41Cancer Foundation he started in 1997 he
  86. 3:44says it's hard to watch it from the
  87. 3:45sidelines I'm proud of what I did there
  88. 3:48I'm proud of what the organization did
  89. 3:50my 15 years there I mean how could you
  90. 3:52not be it was we raised a half a billion
  91. 3:55dollars in 15 years we changed the lives
  92. 3:57of millions of people but it took a lot
  93. 4:01of work Walton now our strong says he's
  94. 4:03focused on moving forward in Austin a
  95. 4:05town that he says was kind to him and
  96. 4:08his family as he struggled with his
  97. 4:10doping controversy and now the lawsuits
  98. 4:12here's the thing Walt and and almost
  99. 4:15nobody has this perspective there are
  100. 4:18people that do because they've been
  101. 4:19through situations that has taught than
  102. 4:21this I know exactly who my friends are
  103. 4:25and I know exactly who are not my
  104. 4:28friends
  105. 4:29it was fascinating again his podcast is
  106. 4:32called the forward big names on their
  107. 4:33musicians artists sports stars and he
  108. 4:36openly talks about his life something he
  109. 4:38really didn't do before I've covered
  110. 4:39Lance Armstrong since 1997 many times he
  111. 4:42was defensive angry some people would
  112. 4:44say arrogant much different not now he's
  113. 4:47not like that and interesting that all
  114. 4:48of these big-name people there they're
  115. 4:50saying yes to an interview with Lance
  116. 4:51Armstrong they're not backing away from
  117. 4:52this yeah I asked no about anybody he is
  118. 4:55he reached out to somebody and they said
  119. 4:56no because maybe it's past he says no
