1:23finally admits that none of his seven
1:25tour to France victories was raced
1:27cleanly Lance Armstrong used Poss

2:00I was right in the middle of it for
2:02years it's almost like we were one big
2:03family or one big fraternity I was
2:05honored to be his team
2:10here the tour to France is an epic 3-we
2:13battle where Riders from more than 20
2:15teams race more than 2,000 miles through
2:18Vineyards up
2:20mountains and all the way to the shaniz
2:23and pis professional cycling is almost
2:26like a cross between NASCAR and horse
2:28racing I mean
2:30it is almost a full contact sport at
2:32times incredible human drama and
2:36suffering on the road but in 1999
2:40Armstrong thinks his team is far from
2:42looking like world
2:44champions the expectations were quite
2:46low no one expected them to win for sure
2:50just 3 years earlier Armstrong had been
2:52diagnosed with aggressive cancer I was
2:55in denial I thought this this can't be
2:57because I'm 25 years old why would would
3:00I have cancer it involved you know
3:02chemotherapy treatments the drugs that
3:05really could have destroyed his athletic
3:07career he's incredibly lucky to get
3:10through that when Armstrong enters the
3:131999 tour to France his best finish in
3:15the race is 36th
3:18place his demeanor back then he was a
3:20lot more he was a lot more unsure of
3:22himself he wasn't sure would he be like
3:24post
3:25cancer Armstrong in 1999 was a very much
3:30outside threat but in the Race's early
3:32prologue stage Armstrong stuns The Crowd
3:35by blowing away the previous year's
3:37winner by 16 full seconds that is
3:40astonishing when Lance has a goal you
3:43know don't get between him and that goal
3:46the moment starts Armstrong's comeback
3:49one marked by extraordinary physical
3:51training and something else performance
3:54enhancing
3:56drugs Armstrong's doping started back in
4:00the mid 1990s when he was on the
4:01Motorola
4:02team in 2012 Steven swart a retired
4:06motor roller teammate admits to doping
4:09while riding with Armstrong in the '90s
4:11I first started doping to be there um
4:16you know and not let the team down
4:18according to swad he Lance Armstrong and
4:21other teammates discuss and use banned
4:24substances the conversations I had with
4:27Lance about daping was basically
4:30on the bike out training you know there
4:31was serious talk about getting on the
4:33EPO
4:35program Riders have been secretly using
4:38drugs to push past their physical limits
4:40for as long as cycling has been a sport
4:43but in 1998 the extent of doping and
4:45professional cycling is exposed to the
4:47world at the start of that Year's tour
4:50to France Border Police find a large
4:52amount of banned substances in a car
4:54belonging to a French cycling
4:56team the following year race organiz try
5:00to move past the Scandal and dub the
5:021999 race the tour of
5:05[Applause]

5:08renewal but according to some of his
5:10teammates in a report released by the
5:12United States anti-doping agency
5:14Armstrong urges them to start
5:19doping convinced he knows what it takes
5:22to win the 1999 tour to France Armstrong
5:25surrounds himself with the best team
5:27possible and according to the antidot
5:29agency report a critical player in that
5:32dream is Michelle Ferrari an Italian
5:35sports doctor that Armstrong has been
5:38quietly Consulting for years Dr Ferrari
5:41in cycling was known as the guy who
5:44doped cyclists he's known for taking a
5:47very intellectual approach to the sport
5:49of cycling a a real numbers based
5:52approach he loves spread sheets he likes
5:54to plug in numbers but he's also Accused
5:56by others of using questionable methods
6:00despite his reputation Ferrari insists
6:03that his program is
6:05legit according to the usada report some
6:09US Postal team members say Ferrari
6:11guides them in the use of banned
6:15substances Tyler Hamilton is one of
6:17those Riders it started with a simple
6:20red testosterone pill I didn't want to
6:22go against the Green the Tor of France
6:24was right around the corner and I knew
6:26if I wanted to make the the team
6:28selection to get into the T referance it
6:31um that might be the deciding factor
6:34idealistic Riders like Hamilton find
6:36themselves on a slippery
6:38slope basically you would be given
6:42vitamin shots in the beginning and
6:43taught how to shoot up B12 into your
6:45veins so you knew your way around the
6:46syringe pretty easily and the real
6:49creepy thing was they would always say
6:50everybody's doing it just like you'd
6:52hear in high school even for athletes in
6:55Peak condition bicycle racing brutalizes
6:58the body B substances like cortisone
7:01testosterone and human growth hormone
7:04Aid in reducing pain and boosting muscle
7:07growth but in the long and gruelling
7:10tours there's an even more sought-after
7:12drug one that targets the blood there's
7:15a very very long name for for EPO it's
7:17arthra poetin and to hide it on the team
7:19they called it Edgar as an Edgar Allen
7:22Poe synthetic EPO is often used to treat
7:25patients whose bodies can't make enough
7:27red blood cells EPO increases the number
7:30of your red blood cells and the red
7:31blood cells are what carry oxygen around
7:33the body for cyclists the extra EPO
7:37created red blood cells feed oxygen
7:40starved muscles providing an unnatural
7:42and unfair boost in
7:45performance as Racers hit the walls of
7:47their cardiovascular limits those doped
7:49on EPO are able to push
7:52past you just don't finish tired you
7:57know a lot fresher uh you recovery is so
8:00much
8:01quicker according to the usada report
8:04Armstrong and some of the other US
8:06Postal team Riders perfect their use of
8:08epo the real problem becomes securing a
8:11steady supply of it during the 1999
8:15tour according to Tyler Hamilton
8:17Armstrong devises a
8:21plan during the race an anonymous
8:24Frenchman waits for a call on his
8:25prepaid mobile phone he is Lance
8:28Armstrong's personal handyman and is
8:30known to members of the US Postal team
8:33as Moto
8:38man after he gets his instructions he
8:40races
8:43off with him according to Tyler Hamilton
8:46is a thermos filled with
8:48EPO heading for an area that will be
8:50crowded with cycling fans he is a shadow
8:53on the
8:55move the Frenchman's mission is to
8:57deliver EPO for Armstrong and and key
8:59teammates whenever it's
9:02needed the sophistication came not just
9:05from something like Moto man but the
9:07idea of how Moto man fit into this
9:09grander plan that like okay here's what
9:11we need and here's who's going to
9:12provide it and then here's how it's
9:13going to get to us in a way that's
9:16undetectable slipping into the US Postal
9:18team's vehicle motoman opens the package
9:22and stashes the
9:24goods when Riders return to the camper
9:27they find EPO filled syringes tucked
9:30into their shoes according to Tyler
9:33Hamilton Riders put their used syringes
9:35into empty drink
9:37cans dispose of the evidence and get
9:40ready for the next grueling stage of the
9:42tour to

9:45France got a clim on on July 13th an
9:49elite group of riders breaks from the
9:51pelaton and races to the top of a 6,000
9:54ft
9:55Mountain the 1999 tour to France is on
9:58the line

10:08underdog and cancer survivor has what it
10:11takes he wasn't an allrounder he wasn't
10:14a super CL and his results and prior to
10:16it the Frances he couldn't match it with
10:19the top guys on the climbs but Armstrong
10:22erases any doubts the acceleration of
10:25Armstrong is absolutely frightening here
10:27Armstrong passes two of the Sports best
10:30climbers as if they're standing still
10:32he's now heading up to a likely Victory

11:04the tour to France and he possibly wins

11:07say they say it's impossible so he must

11:14work behind the scenes at the tour
11:17though Armstrong has a big
11:19problem one of his drug tests comes back
11:22positive for cortisone a drug that
11:25without a doctor's prescription is
11:26banned in
11:27cycling according to sworn testimony by
11:30team Mass's emero Riley Armstrong and
11:33team officials come up with a simple
11:36solution back day to prescription for
11:38cortisone so that the prescription
11:41technically started before the tour
11:42started so that he had already been
11:44taken Court Zone EML Riley she was in
11:47the thick of it she saw a lot of the
11:49things that were going on within the
11:51team racing authorities are satisfied
11:53with the explanation from Armstrong's C
11:56to think that I'm going to come back
11:57into Sport and risk my life with with
12:00performance- enhancing drugs is
12:02crazy accusations of doping are
12:04overshadowed by Armstrong's
12:06extraordinary comeback story there is no
12:09doubt that the cancer his coming back
12:11from cancer had blinded everybody to
12:13what he was really
12:14doing on the 25th of July the world
12:17cheers him on to his first tour to
12:19France Victory but to the man who has
12:22won the Tour to France Lance Armstrong
12:24only the second American cyclist ever on
12:27the shiz in parisy L's new king is
12:33crowned it's been crazy it's uh
12:36obviously you're exhausted from the tour
12:38to France itself and so your body wants
12:41to take a rest but there's no rest for
12:43the weary and the Need for Speed reaches
12:46a whole new

12:52level against the odds and nearly
12:54everyone's expectations Lance Armstrong
12:57wins the 1999 tour to
13:00France this is his tour to France Tour
13:02to

13:04land far from scaring him straight a
13:07close call with a positive cortisone
13:09test seems to prove one thing in the
13:12high stakes high-speed world of cycling
13:15it's not just about being the best
13:17Rider but the best Doper those were dark
13:20years you know doping was just massive
13:23back then and it was you know the
13:25majority of the pelaton was doing it
13:27when it comes down to uh the preparation
13:30or what you're doing or which doctor
13:32you're working with that's the
13:33difference between being number one and
13:35number
13:36two his top competitors if they were
13:38using a certain drug or even asked
13:41someone about a certain drug he
13:42certainly knew it and asked his doctors
13:44about it immediately he really knew how
13:46to figure out what other people were
13:48doing so he would up his game part of
13:51the game was staying ahead of the
13:52testers which is about to get a lot
13:56harder in early 2000s the cycling World
13:59Hears rumors that a new test is being
14:02developed for
14:05EPO according to usada and some of
14:07Armstrong's teammates Dr Michelle
14:09Ferrari and Armstrong have the inside
14:12line on the test and devise a way around
14:14it a lot of people know how the tests
14:16work but they had the intelligence to be
14:20able to say okay well how do we use that
14:22information to make sure that I don't
14:23test positive
14:30according to Hamilton in the summer of
14:322000 at a discreet Beachside hotel in
14:35Valencia Spain Armstrong Hamilton and
14:38another postal Rider prepare for step
14:40one of a blood
14:43transfusion they would take their own
14:45blood out and then during the tour they
14:47would put it back in so that gives you
14:48extra red blood cells for endurance the
14:51process of banking one's own blood isn't
14:53new but its use by athletes as a way to
14:55artificially enhance performance has
14:58been banned since
14:591986 receiving blood transfusions in
15:02hotel rooms that's a really dark
15:05place after about an hour bags of warm
15:08blood are put into coolers and go into
15:14storage according to Hamilton a few
15:16weeks later on the 11th day of the 2000
15:18tour to France the same three cyclists
15:21enter another hotel room this one near
15:23Mount vtu France they grab a hanger from
15:27the closet and basic hang the blood bags
15:30from a pitcher hook on the wall and sit
15:32there on the bed and transfuse the blood
15:35in less than 30 minutes the blood they
15:36drained in Spain is back in their
15:40bodies Tyler Hamilton has described it
15:42as having this feeling of this cold
15:45liquid entering your body the Riders
15:49bodies having naturally recreated the
15:51blood they lost in Spain weeks before
15:53are now reinfused with trillions more
15:56oxygen carrying red blood cells giv
15:59yourself more blood than you've
16:00currently got is the single best way of
16:03improving performance EPO takes a long
16:05time a blood transfusion bang while
16:07you're there and unlike EPO doping with
16:10your own blood is virtually
16:15undetectable 13th of July 2 days after
16:18Armstrong and teammates are allegedly
16:20reinfused with their own blood they set
16:23out on a notorious Mountain Stage of
16:25what Armstrong hopes will be his second
16:27tour to France victory
16:29Every Mountain Stage that you could
16:30finish was basically one step closer to
16:34Paris once again Armstrong makes his
16:37move well look at this then Armstrong
16:40and they wouldn't have expected that
16:41ulick has done nothing about it at all
16:43he saw the speed of the acceleration
16:46he's chasing just one man on the road
16:48the man who's in the pink jersey of per
16:50he catches up with one of the sports
16:52greatest climbers Italian Marco pantani
16:55who'd been disqualified from an earlier
16:57race for irre blood
17:00values he's taken a real good look at
17:02Marco almost as saying the back wheel
17:04for you Marco jump on if you can the men
17:07Sprint up the 6,000 ft Mountain it's an
17:10extraordinary moment I don't think
17:12anyone would have done that well on that
17:14mountain without

17:20diping 10 days later Armstrong claims
17:24his second tour to France Victory but
17:26once again he faces accusations of
17:28doping he confronts his critics head on
17:31and even uses his celebrity to publicly
17:34challenge them in a 2001 ad for
17:38niky everybody wants to know what I'm
17:41on what am I
17:43on I'm on my bike busted my ass 6 hours
17:46a day what are you
17:50on Betsy Andreu wife of cyclist Frankie
17:53Andreu and a former member of
17:55Armstrong's Inner Circle Witnesses his
17:58tactics first
17:59T Lance really relied on the media and
18:05politicians he cozied up to politicians
18:08and to people in power and so he built
18:12this Empire when an accusation comes up
18:15about doping in his career those
18:17accusations are quickly shut down and
18:20Armstrong is undeniably
18:22persuasive why would I take that risk I
18:25have everything I need I have money I
18:28have contracts I have a family I have my
18:31family's name do you think I want my son
18:34to go to high school in
18:362012 and somebody to say oh Luke
18:40Armstrong your dad got busted but behind
18:43Armstrong's confident denials teammates
18:46say they play a dangerous cat and mouse
18:48game with the
18:50[Music]
18:52testers right now on the record for all
18:55of America the world to here have you
18:59ever use performance-enhancing drugs of
19:01course not never not once cycling has
19:04been criminalized and singled out L
19:06Armstrong continues to fight back
19:08aggressively against doping
19:11accusations while teammates say
19:14Armstrong and others are engaged in an
19:16elaborate and risky
19:17[Music]
19:21system one writer says he helped
19:24Armstrong narrowly escape a positive
19:26drug test at a 2000 race in Spain
19:30George hppy Lance Armstrong's right-hand
19:32Man actually texted to warn Lance that
19:34there are drug testers at the
19:36hotel according to hin cppy Armstrong
19:39has testosterone in his system and drops
19:41out of the race to avoid being tested
19:44the team ran the program to ensure that
19:46they never tested positive by getting
19:48advanced notice of the test dropping out
19:49of races when when they knew that they
19:52were hot and would test positive Tyler
19:54tells a story about a tester comes to
19:56the door and he knows that if he gives a
19:59sample

20:12the tester leaves but that's how simple

20:24positive
20:26tests US Postal team list say Dr Ferrari
20:30develops new and nearly undetectable
20:32ways to administer EPO to the team his
20:35doctor decided it was better to inject
20:38it intravenously rather than just
20:39injecting it under the skin injecting
20:42smaller amounts of epo directly into
20:44their veins reduces the number of hours
20:46EPO stays in the system which is key
20:49when testers are regularly making house
20:52calls if you took it in the evening
20:54didn't answer the door the next morning
20:56you would be clear I passed hundreds of
20:59tests when I probably shouldn't have
21:01time I was riding you know we had
21:03doctors that were one step ahead of the
21:06testers at the beginning of the 2004
21:09season Armstrong and crew appear to be
21:13unstoppable John Gotti the Teflon Don
21:16every time he escaped a conviction his
21:18influence and power grew within the
21:20mafia because they all believed he would
21:21never ever be convicted Lance had sort
21:24of that aura that no one was going to
21:27ever be able to catch him
21:29one win away from a record setting Six
21:31Tour def France wins Armstrong is living
21:34the life of an international
21:36icon complete with a rockstar girlfriend
21:39Cheryl Crow he inspires me it's really
21:42really easy to him he and his brand just
21:46got bigger and bigger and bigger through

21:51he has become one of the nation's most
21:53visible
21:54philanthropists my friend a true champ a
21:58great American Lance
22:04Armstrong but all that money and all
22:06that Fame hangs on a great lie according
22:09to the usada report every single one of
22:12his Torrance winds has been fueled by
22:14either testosterone EPO or blood
22:17transfusions it's a secret he's
22:19determined to
22:21protect L Armstrong is two people he's a
22:24person who was beloved and who was very
22:27charismatic and and there's the Dark
22:29Side of Lance Armstrong and ruined many
22:31lives and intimidated people and ruined
22:35careers accusations leaks and threats
22:38are met with a swift Counterattack by
22:40the L Armstrong machine we're sick and
22:43tired of these allegations and we're
22:44going to do everything we can uh to
22:47fight them they're absolutely untrue uh
22:50we filed action in England we filed
22:53action in
22:54France uh against everybody involved and
22:58enough is enough you know there wasn't a
23:00whole lot of in between with Lance you
23:02were either with him and for him or you
23:04were against

23:10cyclist filipo Simeone finds out what
23:12it's like to be up against
23:15Armstrong Simeone first lands on
23:18Armstrong's Hit List in 2002 when he
23:21testifies against Armstrong's friend and
23:23consultant Michelle Ferrari in a trial
23:25that convicts Ferrari on Sports fraud

23:30Lance in turn went after him he went
23:33went out to crush
23:35him the conviction is later overturned
23:38but according to yada as far as
23:40Armstrong is concerned Simeone has done
23:43the
23:44unthinkable he's broken cycling's
23:46unwritten
23:48law nobody speaks out nobody speaks out
23:51everybody you know takes the secrets

24:31Armstrong pressures Simeone to fall back
24:34from the Breakaway
24:35group in a stunning nod to Armstrong's
24:38power and influence Simeone
24:41obeys then cameras catch Armstrong's
24:44final handmade message apparently
24:46referencing Simeone zip your lips that
24:50stands out to me as one of the probably
24:53the ugliest moments I've seen in sports
24:56He's a
24:56Bully um you know he had a lot of power
25:00within the
25:01pelaton and it appears Armstrong will go
25:03to Great Lengths to protect that power
25:05and eliminate his
25:07competition even if it's an old
25:10[Music]
25:13friend Lance's former teammate Tyler
25:15Hamilton now Racing for the phonak team
25:18is one of Armstrong's biggest challenges
25:20at that same tour to France Tyler's a
25:23favorite I mean Tyler has his experience
25:25he has the knowledge that he had a big
25:27year last year I wanted to stay on the
25:29right side of the Lance Armstrong Camp
25:31cuz I knew once I got on the wrong side
25:33of that fence he was going to make my
25:34life tough Hamilton says that after a
25:37pre-tour race he's called in for
25:39questioning by the UCI the international
25:41cycling Union about a suspect drug
25:46test he'd been kind of put on notice by
25:49the UCI that he' had some unusual
25:51results he's shocked to hear from
25:53another cyclist Armstrong Confidant
25:56Floyd Landis that it was Armstrong
25:58himself who informed on Hamilton to the
26:00UCI Lance has this kind of warped sense
26:03of Honor he wasn't above turning in you
26:06know ex- teammates and Rivals when it
26:09suit us his purposes it's a scare but
26:12Hamilton is told not to worry and to
26:13keep
26:16racing it's not just the competition
26:19Armstrong's own teammates who don't get
26:22with the program also feel at risk
26:24including his good friend Frankie
26:26Andreu before the 99 tour Lance chides
26:30Frankie for having a bad attitude not
26:33being a team player being arrogant which
26:36was all code for you're not doing what
26:38it takes Lance brought it up again in
26:412000 it's time for you to get serious
26:45those were the words he used to see
26:46Ferrari while he is using all these
26:48drugs intimidating people people still
26:52saw Lance Armstrong as their hero
26:54millions and millions of people wore his
26:56yellow bracelets because he was their
26:58inspiration and they just could not see
27:00the other side but Armstrong's Public
27:02Image is on a collision course with his
27:05secret
27:08life you have never taken any
27:10performance-enhancing drug in connection
27:12with your cycling career correct uh and
27:16that would include any substance that's
27:19ever been banned is that fair to say
27:23correct in 2004 an insurance company SCA
27:27refuses to pay Armstrong millions in
27:29bonus money amid reports of him
27:32doping Armstrong sued them it was th
27:35ring MK and soon his former teammates
27:38that's an injectable friends I would
27:40prefer not to be here at the deposition
27:42yes and Armstrong himself are testifying
27:45under oath before lawyers it
27:48affirmatively did not
27:51take how could it have taken place when
27:54I've never taken performance enhancing
27:56drugs how could that have happened that
27:58was my point you're not it's not just
27:59simply you don't recall just how many
28:00times do have to say it I'm just trying
28:02to make sure your testimony is
28:04clear the case threatens to expose
28:06Armstrong's doping program and he goes
28:09to Great Lengths to try to keep his
28:11secrets from being
28:12revealed when Betsy Andreu ared for her
28:15deposition conducted by SCA attorney
28:18Jeffrey tilletson she's shocked to see
28:20Armstrong in the
28:22room Betsy immediately jumps up and goes
28:25outside we follow her I do and she is
28:29freaked out she's like oh my God he's
28:31here he's here why is he here Armstrong
28:34sits across from Andreu during her
28:36entire testimony what was it that your
28:40email to Mr Armstrong said andreo
28:44refuses to be intimidated by his
28:46presence I said you are very
28:48disrespectful to people you treat people
28:51like Frankie is a friend of yours he's
28:54not an
28:55employee we don't have to put up with it

30:30Armstrong thumbs his nose at the
30:32detractors the last thing I'll say for

30:43big and I'm sorry you don't believe in
30:44miracles he knew that people knew he was
30:46doping he knew that people were
30:48basically on to him and couldn't prove
30:49it and he basically just threw it back
30:51in everybody's face then at the top of
30:54his game Lance Armstrong
30:56retires it's time for me to to stop and
31:00go home and and and be a full-time
31:03dad the following year his friend and
31:06former prote Floyd Landis picks up the
31:10torch if anyone was going to fill his
31:12shoes and become the next Great American
31:15cyclist it was going to be Floyd Landis
31:18since joining the US Postal team Landis
31:20trained closely with Armstrong and
31:22helped him win three tour to France
31:25titles according to Landis his time was
31:27with Armstrong is also spent in the Dark
31:30World of
31:31doping he first was sort of
31:34indoctrinated into the doping program
31:37during the sort of warm-up race before
31:39the tour to France when he joined Lance
31:42Armstrong he became something else he
31:45was really inside all of the the drug
31:48use and in 2006 Landis continues the
31:52American winning streak and captures the
31:54yellow Jersey American Floyd Landis is
31:57celebrating his big victory today I'll
32:01be happy about this for a long
32:03time now it's landis's turn on top and
32:06like Armstrong before him he's convinced
32:08they'll never catch his
32:11doping but he's
32:14wrong after his breathtaking win in the
32:17tour def France American Floyd Landis
32:20has tested positive for unusually high
32:23levels of
32:25testosterone Landis desperately fights
32:27back against the
32:28charge I would like to leave absolutely
32:31clear that I am not in any doping
32:35process but when it comes to convincing
32:37denials Floyd Landis is no Lance
32:39Armstrong to accredit that the levels I
32:41have had during the tour and all my
32:44career are absolutely natural and
32:46produced by my own organism the cycling
32:48Community is not convinced and the UCI
32:51strips him of his
32:52title he's banned from cycling for 2
32:55years in the world of Cy when you test
32:58positive they throw you out like garbage
33:00you were
33:02nothing the alienated cyclist is haunted
33:05by his failed drug test if the world
33:08finds out that you have a positive drug
33:09test it's a disaster Floyd Landis fought
33:13his case for many years took his 2-year
33:15suspension came back in the sport and
33:16couldn't get a job on the highest levels

33:19cycling not even with his old friend
33:21Lance Armstrong who 3 years into his

33:40Armstrong says Landis threatens to go

34:57Federal Food and Drug Administration
34:59agents who meet with the disgraced
35:02cyclist Landis tells them about doping
35:04and cycling and this time he talks
35:07specifically about Lance Armstrong Floyd
35:10Landis knew where all the bodies were
35:13buried the FDA launches a full
35:15investigation into landis's
35:18allegations at issue is whether or not
35:20the US Postal team under Armstrong is
35:23guilty of fraud by engaging in doping
35:25and possibly trafficking ban subst es
35:28all while under contract with a federal
35:31sponsor the US Postal
35:34Service a grand jury had convened in Los
35:36Angeles and Lance was in the

35:49hard at Landis this is a man that that
35:53wrote a book for profit that had a
35:55completely different persons
35:57February 2012 2 years after the federal
36:01investigation into Armstrong
36:03begins it suddenly
36:05dropped without explanation in a
36:08statement Armstrong calls it the right
36:12decision when the federal investigation
36:14closed I think Armstrong justifiably
36:17felt like he dodged a bullet but as soon
36:19as one investigation ends another
36:21investigation begins under Travis UT
36:25head of the United States anti-doping
36:26agency or
36:28usada no athlete should be put in the
36:31situation where to achieve their dreams
36:33they have to resort to dangerous
36:35cheating though usada is without
36:37Authority in legal or criminal matters
36:40UT can ban athletes from sanctioned
36:43sports for doping for years or even life
36:47he approaches Armstrong's former
36:49teammates including Tyler Hamilton and
36:51they start talking the people that were
36:54bound to this Code of Silence they
36:56basically came forward and the whole
36:58thing blew open 11 of Armstrong's
37:01teammates testify against him including
37:03six Active Riders who are given
37:05six-month suspensions for their own
37:08doping the powerful Armstrong machine is
37:11in high defense mode after he passed
37:14every single test that was administered
37:17and didn't fail a one and they couldn't
37:18prove him guilty uh they've now asked
37:20him to prove himself innocent all I can
37:22say is that Lance Armstrong is defiant
37:24and he will always be
37:26defiant but the tide is turning the
37:29opportunity to come clean is just too
37:31appealing for some who were once in
37:33Armstrong's Inner
37:35Circle it was just a massive massive
37:39weight off my shoulders and it felt so
37:41good um that you know immediately I just
37:45I I knew my life had changed I knew the
37:48the right direction I was going to go
37:51and uh I wanted to scream it from the
37:53top of my lungs at that time in October
37:56of 2012 you D publicly issues a full
37:59report and it reveals what they say is
38:02Armstrong's secret world this was the
38:05game changer this is what took it from
38:07being you could believe one side or the
38:10other still 1,000 Pages lay out incident
38:14after incident of doping on the US
38:16Postal cycling
38:17team names dates and locations all in
38:21great
38:22detail it's a scathing assessment of the
38:24man usada paints as the ring leader

38:28Armstrong I think it proves Beyond any
38:31doubt unfortunately the US Postal
38:33Services Pro cycling team including
38:35Lance Armstrong ran the most
38:37sophisticated professionalized and
38:39successful drug program that we've ever

38:43cheater in all of cycling's history um
38:46obviously by not only by the number of
38:48Tours he had won and by his success but
38:50by the number of people he was able to
38:53co-opt into this cycle of Deceit I
38:56always thought the truth would come out
38:57cuz it's just too big but I never
39:00imagined it would be what it is because
39:04we were so surprised by so much of it
39:07ourselves just the
39:09magnitude is it's
39:12staggering
39:14staggering just one week after the usada
39:16report is released Armstrong speaks at
39:18his Liv strong foundation's 15th
39:21anniversary it's been a difficult couple
39:24of weeks for me for my family for my
39:27friends for this foundation on that day
39:29Tyler Hamilton saw a changed man I know
39:33him well enough I could see he was he's
39:35broken he's he's a broken man I know I
39:38can just tell by his voice as the
39:40Scandal grows day by day Armstrong's
39:43Legend Continues to crumble on the 22nd
39:47of October 2012 Lance Armstrong's
39:50disgrace is
39:52official he is stripped of his seven
39:55tour to France titles
39:58he's also banned not

40:30wanted me to try to win the Tour but one
40:33by one sponsors like Nike Oakley Tre and
40:36others end their association with
40:40Armstrong he's been told from you know
40:4315 years old you're special you're
40:44different you can do anything and now
40:46he's being told for the first time in
40:48his life like you might be a jerk not
40:50only did he lie for so many years he
40:53destroyed people that dared to tell the
40:55truth with his Back Against The Wall
40:58Armstrong makes his

41:03move the history the glory and the
41:06legend of Lance Armstrong crumble under
41:08the Searing allegations of the usada
41:12report by the Autumn of 2012 the once
41:15Untouchable Armstrong is in a tail
41:18spin Lance was you know such a powerful
41:21guy back in the day and I never thought
41:24the walls would be crashing down like
41:25they have done and yet right after being
41:28stripped of his tour to France winds
41:29Armstrong posts a Twitter photo of
41:31himself lounging beneath his seven
41:34framed yellow jerseys with the caption
41:37back in Austin and just laying around I
41:40don't think Armstrong ever took it fully
41:42seriously right up until the
41:44end I don't think he saw it for the
41:47threat that it
41:48was but as the Scandal deepens this time
41:51Armstrong can't just dismiss or deny the
41:56pressure on on the 17th of October 2012
41:59Armstrong resigns as chairman of
42:02Livestrong the organization some have
42:04called his greatest
42:06Legacy finally in January 2013 he makes
42:10his move I think everybody could see
42:13what was coming that there was going to
42:15be some kind of admission Lance
42:17Armstrong spent three hours with Oprah
42:19Winfrey today and what was described as
42:21an emotional interview some of his
42:23advisers were really against him going
42:26on Oprah and some of them thought you
42:28know it was it was good maybe for his
42:30Public
42:32Image that January night Millions watch
42:35around the world as Oprah gets right to
42:37the point did you ever take banned
42:40substances to enhance your cycling
42:42performance yes but in the aftermath
42:45some criticize Armstrong for not coming
42:47completely clean I think the Oprah
42:50interview did him some damage because
42:51there were things he wasn't willing to
42:53address you know he he denied do in 2009
42:552010 even though there's some fairly
42:57strong evidence that he did in fact user
43:01analyzed Armstrong's blood samples from
43:03those later tours and the results
43:05indicate with near certainty that
43:07Armstrong reinfused his own
43:10blood there was a one a million chance
43:13of that meaning he was not
43:16doping so why was Armstrong so adamant
43:19about not doping during those later
43:20years Skeptics question whether his
43:23admissions are related to the expiration
43:25of statutes of limitation for some of
43:27the acts he committed during earlier
43:29tours they wonder whether Armstrong is
43:32being cautious because he could be
43:33vulnerable for what occurred during
43:35later
43:37tours I think his problems are just
43:39starting we're seeking the repayment of
43:41over $12 million that we paid him in
43:44prize money for winning races that he
43:46now has admitted he cheated in and he's
43:48been stripped of those
43:50titles the most daunting threat may come
43:52from the US Department of
43:54Justice in February 200 13 they
43:57announced they've joined Floyd Landis in
43:59a civil case against Armstrong for
44:02defrauding the US
44:03government he's facing a what's called a
44:06ketam or whistleblower lawsuit from
44:08Floyd
44:09landos the federal government contends
44:12Armstrong violated the contract with the
44:14US Postal Service by doping their
44:16lawsuit seeks to recoup millions of
44:19dollars paid out to the
44:20team Armstrong's attorneys are
44:22contesting the lawsuit arguing that the
44:25US Postal Service actually benefited
44:27from its sponsorship of Armstrong and
44:29his team to the tune of $100
44:32million so what happens to him now it's
44:35very hard to say but it it doesn't look
44:37good there will be Fallout from this
44:39story for quite some time yeah I worry
44:41about him I you know I hope he' I think
44:44the truth will do him a lot of good I
44:46really do people will forgive him and
44:50he's still a champion in a lot of
44:52people's eyes I like to win but I fear
44:56losing
44:57and I and I I uh that might be what gets
45:01me up in the morning more than anything
45:03for the man who said being afraid is a
45:05Priceless education the outcome of his
45:08Fall From Grace is still unfolding
