  2. 0:01on Lance Armstrong just hours before the
  3. 0:03deadline that would have meant he was
  4. 0:05banned from cycling for Life ABC News
  5. 0:08learned that Armstrong would in fact
  6. 0:10cooperate with the anti-doping
  7. 0:11investigation and that came shortly
  8. 0:13after ABC's Neil carlinsky broke the
  9. 0:15news of a federal investigation into
  10. 0:17Armstrong and Neil joins us now with the
  11. 0:20very latest on all of this good morning
  12. 0:22Neil Amy good morning Lance Armstrong is
  13. 0:24not a man who scares easily but sources
  14. 0:26say one thing he apparently does fear is
  15. 0:29jail and that may have been the
  16. 0:30motivator to finally get him in the door
  17. 0:32to speak with
  18. 0:35authorities it is a stunning about face
  19. 0:38at the very last minute just before his
  20. 0:40deadline to talk to us anti-doping
  21. 0:41authorities Lance Armstrong is giving in
  22. 0:44and apparently will come clean in a
  23. 0:47statement usada's CEO Travis Tigert
  24. 0:49writes that Armstrong now wants to be
  25. 0:52part of the solution and assist in the
  26. 0:54effort to clean up the sport of cycling
  27. 0:56the turn came just hours after ABC News
  28. 0:59broke the the story that federal agents
  29. 1:01are reportedly investigating Armstrong
  30. 1:03for witness tampering obstruction and
  31. 1:06intimidation serious federal crimes
  32. 1:09based on allegations that Armstrong
  33. 1:11threatened Witnesses who plan to expose
  34. 1:13his big lie the reality is Lance
  35. 1:15Armstrong did not want to be a
  36. 1:17participant in any deal making and he's
  37. 1:20he got scared coming clean to
  38. 1:21authorities isn't like talking to Oprah
  39. 1:24did you ever take banned substances to
  40. 1:26enhance your cycling performance yes
  41. 1:29Armstrong will have to do what he's
  42. 1:30fought hard to avoid testifying under
  43. 1:34oath with perjury charges at stake the
  44. 1:36testimony could take days and will
  45. 1:38require Armstrong to provide substantial
  46. 1:41assistance to investigators meaning he
  47. 1:43must name names who helped him get the
  48. 1:46drugs who helped him hide and transport
  49. 1:48them pass the drug tests and keep the
  50. 1:50secret hidden for so long he will
  51. 1:53essentially have to roll over on people
  52. 1:55he seemed interested in protecting
  53. 1:57Planet Armstrong is kind of a dark and
  54. 1:59lonely place right now uh he's got major
  55. 2:02problems a pile of civil lawsuits are
  56. 2:05active as well including a class action
  57. 2:07suit by people who bought Armstrong's
  58. 2:09best-selling books defendants knew or
  59. 2:12should have known these books were works
  60. 2:14of fiction the suit
  61. 2:16States us anti-doping authorities have
  62. 2:19given Armstrong a two- we window to come
  63. 2:21in and talk to them we'll see on the
  64. 2:23possible upside for Armstrong the hope
  65. 2:25that cooperating with authorities now
  66. 2:27will somehow give him a break and help
  67. 2:29out with some of his other many legal
  68. 2:32problems
