- 0:08Sira is now communicating with her
- 0:10mother, even if it's just in baby talk.
- 0:13Look.
- 0:16She looks at her because Sira, who was
- 0:18born deaf, can now hear her. Our
- 0:21cameras recorded the moment the little
- 0:23girl heard for the first time in her 8
- 0:25months of life.
- 0:26Hello, girl. Now, yes. We don't know,
- 0:33do we?
- 0:33Hello, girl.
- 0:35Oh,
- 0:35yes, the second time.
- 0:38Let's see, once again.
- 0:44It was at the University of Navarra
- 0:46Clinic, surrounded by the specialists
- 0:48who had placed a cochlear implant in
- 0:50each ear.
- 0:52It was very moving, honestly. Well, we
- 0:54didn't notice it at the time because
- 0:56there were so many of us and we didn't
- 0:59know what would happen either, and the
- 1:00doctor had already warned us that
- 1:01sometimes they react, sometimes they
- 1:02don't. And when we watched it again on
- 1:06video, that's when we really realized
- 1:07she had turned around a couple of times
- 1:09.
- 1:10Two cochlear implants, one in each ear,
- 1:13gifted sound to the little one.
- 1:16Look, it's hard, it's hard, it's a
- 1:18tough decision, especially when some
- 1:20people tell you to wait and others tell
- 1:22you not to. So, it puts parents in a
- 1:26bit of a difficult situation when you
- 1:28really know that the best option is
- 1:30this, so we operated on her in July.
- 1:35Why wait if, in the end, it has to be
- 1:36done anyway? And it's proven that the
- 1:40results for children are much better if
- 1:42operated on before the age of one.
- 1:49It would be good if all hospitals in
- 1:51Spain could operate as soon as possible
- 1:52. Like at the University of Navarra
- 1:55Clinic, like here, and we operated on
- 1:59her at 7 months. The results are
- 2:01brilliant. Yes, yes. And of the two, no
- 2:04, only one. And she seems much sharper,
- 2:07she's starting to respond to some
- 2:09sounds and she babbles much more, much
- 2:12more. But now it's extreme when she has
- 2:14them on. I mean, you can't hear the TV,
- 2:17you can't do anything on the street
- 2:18because she's calling everyone.
- 2:23Like a normal child, in the end. I mean
- 2:25, we are very happy, truly, very much
- 2:28so.
- 2:30If there weren't, if there weren't
- 2:31cochlear implants, what would we do?
- 2:34What happened? What weighed? Such
- 2:38strange things come like that now, huh?
- 2:41No.
