  1. 0:09Hey there, my name is Krys Ramdial and I'm an industrial
  2. 0:11and organizational psychologist, which means that I spend a lot
  3. 0:14of time thinking about the best ways to approach business from
  4. 0:18the human perspective.
  5. 0:19Part of my role at P&G is to lead our talent selection work,
  6. 0:22which is cool because we get to apply science to developing the
  7. 0:25assessments that help candidates in P&G determine whether we're a
  8. 0:28good fit for one another.
  9. 0:30We know that there's a lot of anxiety and uncertainty when it
  10. 0:33comes to assessments, and that's valid.
  11. 0:35It can be hard if you don't understand the reasoning behind
  12. 0:37our assessments, and even harder when you don't know what to
  13. 0:40expect.
  14. 0:40So our goal is to expose you to our intentions and the processes
  15. 0:43to lessen that uncertainty and reassure you that this process
  16. 0:47is built just as much for you as it is for us.
  17. 0:50Before we begin, I'd like to take a second to talk about an
  18. 0:52initiative that we're particularly proud of.
  19. 0:55It was born out of P&G's desire to show that we value
  20. 0:58each applicant's time.
  21. 0:59To show our gratitude, we've come up with a special corporate
  22. 1:02social responsibility initiative during the pre hire selection
  23. 1:06phase, possibly the first of its kind.
  24. 1:08For every applicant who completes our assessment, we're
  25. 1:11donating a leader of clean water through P&G's Children's Safe
  26. 1:14Drinking Water program.
  27. 1:16Using a simple P&G invented purification packet, it can
  28. 1:19clean up to 10 liters of water in 30 minutes.
  29. 1:23So far, P&G has provided over 15 billion liters of drinking water
  30. 1:26to communities around the world.
  31. 1:30Now then, let's start with our goals behind the online
  32. 1:33assessment.
  33. 1:35First, we want a fairway of selecting the right talent for
  34. 1:38P&G.
  35. 1:39We accomplished this by keeping the assessments database and
  36. 1:42structured to minimize the space for bias while predicting who is
  37. 1:46most likely to succeed in a long term career with P&G.
  38. 1:49We build on the lessons learned during more than 185 years of
  39. 1:53highly successful and diverse P&G people.
  40. 1:56By analyzing outstanding performances, we're able to
  41. 2:00identify the knowledge, skills, traits and characteristics that
  42. 2:04a person needs to excel here.
  43. 2:06Before launching an assessment, we do a validation study to
  44. 2:09review its effectiveness.
  45. 2:10We also evaluate if it treats everyone fairly.
  46. 2:13And while the assessment is in use, we check the data every few
  47. 2:16months to make sure it continues to meet our standards for
  48. 2:19predictiveness and fairness.
  49. 2:21Our second intention relates to P&G's commitment to invest in
  50. 2:24our people.
  51. 2:25P&G is a developed from within company.
  52. 2:27This means we strongly support the growth of our employees by
  53. 2:30trusting them with leadership opportunities and encouraging
  54. 2:33them to explore different roles across the company.
  55. 2:36This matters because we're building assessments that help
  56. 2:39us gauge your potential success in the long run, not just in
  57. 2:42your very first role.
  58. 2:43To accomplish this, we've designed a process with multiple
  59. 2:46stages to get a more holistic glimpse into who you are.
  60. 2:49This helps us to minimize bias and make sure we aren't making
  61. 2:52important decisions based on just one observation about you.
  62. 2:56The first stage is the pre screening where you'll be able
  63. 2:59to share information about your background.
  64. 3:02This could include your degree, years of experience,
  65. 3:04certifications, really any of the basics that are important
  66. 3:07for the role that you're applying to.
  67. 3:10The next stage is the assessment stage where we have the peak
  68. 3:13performance assessment and the interactive assessment.
  69. 3:16I'll go deeper into each one of those two in a minute, but high
  70. 3:19level you have the peak performance assessment and the
  71. 3:21interactive assessment.
  72. 3:23The peak performance assessment is focused on work style,
  73. 3:26previous experience, and a few other things that we've seen
  74. 3:29help people to be successful at P&G.
  75. 3:31This one is not timed, but it typically takes about 20
  76. 3:34minutes.
  77. 3:35After the peak performance assessment, you then move to the
  78. 3:38interactive assessment, which is a gamified assessment that helps
  79. 3:41us gauge your reasoning and problem solving skills.
  80. 3:44This one is timed and usually takes about 30 minutes.
  81. 3:48A few things worth mentioning about the assessments.
  82. 3:50They are available in 20 different languages, they can be
  83. 3:54taken on your mobile device and there are accommodations
  84. 3:57available.
  85. 3:58Just reference the P&G Careers website For more information.
  86. 4:01Before you take the assessment, let's dive into the peak
  87. 4:04assessment.
  88. 4:05When you start the assessment, you'll be prompted with some
  89. 4:08simple instructions.
  90. 4:09Find a quiet, distraction free spot.
  91. 4:12This assessment asks about your work style and experiences, so
  92. 4:15it's important that you're in a place where you can process and
  93. 4:18reflect on each item and respond accurately.
  94. 4:22Next, the questions are mandatory and you must complete
  95. 4:25all four sections.
  96. 4:27If you need to exit mid assessment, you can save your
  97. 4:30responses and continue it later.
  98. 4:31Just make sure you log in with the same e-mail each time so you
  99. 4:34can return to where you left off.
  100. 4:36Finally, you should complete this assessment on your own,
  101. 4:39without these distance from other people or tools like AI.
  102. 4:43This should be a representation of you and only you.
  103. 4:45Now for some tips.
  104. 4:48Again, there's no time limit for completing this assessment, but
  105. 4:51most applicants take about 20 minutes.
  106. 4:53The more focused you can be, the better.
  107. 4:55You're welcome to go back and forth between the questions, but
  108. 4:59you'll need to complete all questions for that section
  109. 5:02before moving into the next one.
  110. 5:04Remember, this assessment is all about you and you are the expert
  111. 5:08on your experiences.
  112. 5:09It'll ask about your preferences in the work environment, your
  113. 5:13previous experiences, and how you would respond in
  114. 5:16hypothetical situations.
  115. 5:17There are no knowledge based questions here, so nothing you
  116. 5:20need to study.
  117. 5:21If you'd like, you could consider doing some self
  118. 5:23reflection ahead of time.
  119. 5:25My best advice is to just be yourself, at least that version
  120. 5:27of yourself who shows up in the workplace, and use this as an
  121. 5:30opportunity to own your accomplishments.
  122. 5:33The peak assessment is our way of determining if you and P&G
  123. 5:35are a good fit for one another.
  124. 5:37Yes, as a business we're looking for characteristics that signal
  125. 5:40you'd be successful here, but we're also looking for
  126. 5:43characteristics that indicate you'd be satisfied and feel like
  127. 5:46you belong within the P&G culture.
  128. 5:48You may be tempted to try to guess which answers are the
  129. 5:51right answers, but what I can tell you is that the right
  130. 5:53answers are not necessarily what you might think.
  131. 5:56This is because the assessment is customized to the P&G
  132. 5:59environment and does not necessarily reflect what we
  133. 6:02might consider to be generally socially desirable.
  134. 6:04Your best bet is to be honest, and that might even mean giving
  135. 6:07yourself permission to leave your humility behind.
  136. 6:10While you're taking this assessment.
  137. 6:11We want you to be able to accurately represent yourself,
  138. 6:14so don't be shy and brag where you need to.
  139. 6:17On the right, you'll see a couple example questions.
  140. 6:20There are two forms, multiple choice questions where you'll
  141. 6:23choose the option that best fits you and rating questions, where
  142. 6:27you'll choose the extent to which the statements are true or
  143. 6:30untrue about you on a sliding scale.
  144. 6:32Next is the interactive assessment.
  145. 6:35The interactive assessment is designed to help us learn more
  146. 6:38about your reasoning and problem solving skills.
  147. 6:41Remember, we aim to help our employees build a successful and
  148. 6:44dynamic career, not just a short term job.
  149. 6:46With so many possible professional career paths
  150. 6:49available, focusing on reasoning and problem solving skills lets
  151. 6:52us predict how you might tackle challenges and adapt to the work
  152. 6:56environment.
  153. 6:57No matter how you choose to shape your career in the future,
  154. 7:00like with the first assessment, you'll be provided with
  155. 7:04instructions.
  156. 7:05Again, this should be completed on your own without assistance
  157. 7:08from other people or tools like AI so that we can make sure
  158. 7:11we're measuring your skills and not someone else's.
  159. 7:15This is important because you would ultimately be the person
  160. 7:18responsible for showing those reasoning and problem solving
  161. 7:21skills on the job.
  162. 7:22And you still want a distraction free environment for this
  163. 7:25assessment, which may be even more important for this one
  164. 7:28because unlike the peak assessment, you need to finish
  165. 7:31this in one sitting and it is timed.
  166. 7:33This means you need to be able to focus for the entirety of the
  167. 7:36assessment.
  168. 7:37Another difference here is that you cannot toggle back and forth
  169. 7:40between the questions.
  170. 7:41You'll be provided with different exercises, and you'll
  171. 7:44have a certain amount of time to respond.
  172. 7:46Once you do respond, you'll progress to the next question
  173. 7:49without the option to go back.
  174. 7:51This is because the assessment uses computer adaptive testing,
  175. 7:54which means it adjusts to your abilities by changing the
  176. 7:57difficulty of the questions based on your answers.
  177. 8:00This way, we can give you a personalized evaluation of your
  178. 8:03skills, making the assessment more accurate and efficient for
  179. 8:06you.
  180. 8:07So if it feels like it's getting harder, don't worry.
  181. 8:10It doesn't mean you're doing poorly.
  182. 8:11The assessment might just be increasing the challenge level.
  183. 8:15And the final instruction here is about how you'll navigate
  184. 8:18through the assessment to avoid any technical issues.
  185. 8:21Now let's go through the three types of exercises you'd
  186. 8:23encounter in this assessment.
  187. 8:25The 1st is going to involve some arithmetic.
  188. 8:27The goal is to fill in the blank so that the equation on the
  189. 8:31calculator is correct.
  190. 8:32You have the digits one through 9, and you can use each digit
  191. 8:36once.
  192. 8:37Let's take a look at the example.
  193. 8:38In the equation at the top, we see three plus blank equals 7.
  194. 8:42To fill in this equation, click on the box with the blank and
  195. 8:45then click the digit that corrects the equation.
  196. 8:48In this case, the answer is 4.
  197. 8:50You'll spend about 6 minutes completing a series of these
  198. 8:53equations.
  199. 8:54They become more complex as you get deeper into the exercise, so
  200. 8:57I'll show you another example.
  201. 8:59Now we're doing multiplication and subtraction in the same
  202. 9:02equation.
  203. 9:03In this case, there are multiple right answers, so you would just
  204. 9:06go with the one that brings you the most joy, which is hopefully
  205. 9:08the one that helps you solve the equation the fastest.
  206. 9:11All of the answers on the left would be considered correct.
  207. 9:14Once you've finished with those equations, you'll be moved to
  208. 9:17the second section.
  209. 9:18You'll have about another 6 minutes for this exercise, but
  210. 9:22this time there's only one correct response for each round.
  211. 9:25The goal is to determine which branch the symbols at the top of
  212. 9:28the tube went through to end up where they are at the bottom of
  213. 9:31the tube.
  214. 9:32Inside of it, you'll see three branches, each with a different
  215. 9:35series of numbers.
  216. 9:37The value of the numbers represents the position of the
  217. 9:40symbols on the top of the tube, and the order of those numbers
  218. 9:44indicates the position of the symbols below the tube.
  219. 9:47I'll run through an example again.
  220. 9:50The order of the numbers is meant to reflect the bottom of
  221. 9:53the tube.
  222. 9:54This means we want the order to be cross, triangle, circle,
  223. 9:58square.
  224. 9:59If we look at the top, we can see that the cross is in the
  225. 10:02third position, the triangles in the second position, the circle
  226. 10:05is in the 4th, and the square is in the first.
  227. 10:08That means the answer here is 3241.
  228. 10:12Now this one can also get a bit more complex in the sense that
  229. 10:15you could be provided with scenarios in which assembles go
  230. 10:18through multiple transitions or rearrangements.
  231. 10:21After that, you'll move on to the third and final exercise,
  232. 10:25which looks at short term memory.
  233. 10:27This exercise takes about 12 minutes.
  234. 10:30The goal here is to remember the position of a specific dot or
  235. 10:33group of dots.
  236. 10:34But there is a slight twist to this memory game.
  237. 10:37Each round you'll see a dot appear in at least one of those
  238. 10:40white holes on the screen.
  239. 10:42But instead of just simply asking you to immediately
  240. 10:45identify where those dots are, we spice things up by switching
  241. 10:48the task before you come back to tell us where the dots were.
  242. 10:51This helps us learn more about your short term memory.
  243. 10:54You'll do 3 rounds of this, each lasting about four minutes.
  244. 10:57Let's run through an example.
  245. 10:59Starting with the image on the right, you'll have a limited
  246. 11:02amount of time to take note of where the dot is toward the
  247. 11:04bottom right.
  248. 11:06Then comes the additional task.
  249. 11:08You're asked to determine if the right side is a mirror image of
  250. 11:12the left side.
  251. 11:13We choose no, because we can see that this is not symmetrical and
  252. 11:16they are not mirror images of one another.
  253. 11:19Then we're brought back to the memory game.
  254. 11:22You'll notice that the dot is now gone, and that's because we
  255. 11:25now need to identify where it was.
  256. 11:27But we can't be full that easily, so we choose that white
  257. 11:30hole toward the bottom right.
  258. 11:32You'll keep doing this for about four minutes, and then you'll go
  259. 11:36into a new round with its corresponding additional task.
  260. 11:39Again, you'll be shown the empty holes with at least one dot in
  261. 11:42there.
  262. 11:43You'll remember where the dot is now toward the bottom left, and
  263. 11:46you'll be taken to your new task.
  264. 11:48For this one, you'll need to determine if the pattern on the
  265. 11:51right is the rotated version of the pattern on the left.
  266. 11:55In this case, the answer is yes.
  267. 11:57You can see that the pattern on the left looks like a nine, and
  268. 12:00that pattern on the right is the identical image of the 9:00, but
  269. 12:03rotated to the right.
  270. 12:05And once again, you'll be asked to indicate where the dot was in
  271. 12:08the bottom left.
  272. 12:10You'll do the same thing for the third round of this memory
  273. 12:12exercise, but as you probably guessed, we're keeping things
  274. 12:15exciting with yet another type of task.
  275. 12:18This time, you'll need to determine whether the two images
  276. 12:20at the top can be combined to create that image at the bottom.
  277. 12:23In this case, you can see that the answer is yes.
  278. 12:27The two elements at the top come together to create the H shape
  279. 12:30that you see at the bottom.
  280. 12:32Again, you'd engage in this round for about four minutes and
  281. 12:36then you're finished.
  282. 12:38Those who successfully passed the assessments may be contacted
  283. 12:41for an initial interview.
  284. 12:43The assessment scores are valid for 12 months.
  285. 12:46This means that for those 12 months, you can apply to
  286. 12:49multiple roles at P&G without having to retake the
  287. 12:52assessments.
  288. 12:53You may want to consider this if you aren't offered the role you
  289. 12:56initially applied for, or if they're just multiple roles that
  290. 12:59you're interested in.
  291. 13:00If you choose to apply to multiple roles, you may be
  292. 13:03prompted to repeat some of the other application steps,
  293. 13:06including acknowledging that we can use your assessment scores
  294. 13:09for the additional applications.
  295. 13:11It may look like you're being directed to take the assessment
  296. 13:14again, but you won't be.
  297. 13:15The process just enables us to reattach your scores to your
  298. 13:18application.
  299. 13:20If those 12 months lapse and you apply again, you will be asked
  300. 13:24to take the assessments again.
  301. 13:26This helps to ensure that your scores are valid and if you fail
  302. 13:29the assessments the first time, it gives you the opportunity to
  303. 13:32reapply after you've had enough time to improve the skills being
  304. 13:35measured in the assessments.
  305. 13:37The bottom line here is that for those 12 months, no matter how
  306. 13:40many roles you're applying to a P&G you'll only be asked to
  307. 13:44take these assessments once, which is why it's key to set
  308. 13:47yourself up for success by making sure you're in an
  309. 13:50environment and in A-frame of mind in which you can focus and
  310. 13:53put in your best effort.
  311. 13:55I hope this has been helpful and you now have a clear idea of
  312. 13:58what to expect during your assessments.
  313. 14:00Thank you for your interest in P&G.
  314. 14:02We're committed to helping you grow and develop a fulfilling
  315. 14:05career from our very first interaction.
  316. 14:07We want to help you find the right path to succeed.
  317. 14:10So apply for a position today and remember to complete your
  318. 14:13assessments.
  319. 14:14Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
