Full transcript
- 0:10Okay, gentlemen, you understand the
- 0:12rules of fighting. You listen to me all
- 0:13times. Keep yourself protected. When I
- 0:15say stop, you stop. If you want to
- 0:17touch, do it now. God bless.
- 0:21Let's go.
- 0:22>> Here we go.
- 0:23Here [cheering] we go. Wow.
- 0:24>> that How did that
- 0:30Oh, man.
- 0:33Let's go. That happened in the blink of
- 0:35an eye.
- 0:36KHAMZAT CHIMAEV, at long last, fighting
- 0:41for an undisputed UFC title. That belt
- 0:43belongs to South Africa's
- 0:46Dricus Du Plessis. [cheering]
- 0:48And we are underway.
- 0:52Oh, nice double leg by Hamzat.
- 0:59Take down already by Hamzat.
- 1:01Dricus needs to release the head here.
- 1:04If he doesn't release the head here,
- 1:05it's Hamzat could put him in
- 1:07Yeah, he's going to get caught in a Von
- 1:09Flue.
- 1:10>> Yep.
- 1:13Dricus said he understood he was going
- 1:15to get taken down.
- 1:16>> But this is quick though. That was way
- 1:18faster than I could have imagined. He
- 1:19thought it would be that quick.
- 1:21>> [cheering]
- 1:22>> First level change, Hamzat was able to
- 1:24take him to the mat.
- 1:28Now here's the question, is he going to
- 1:29be able to get back up?
- 1:33Usman got taken down pretty quickly too.
- 1:35But he was able to get back to his feet.
- 1:38>> [cheering]
- 1:38>> But he didn't get taken down and
- 1:40flattened out on his back.
- 1:41>> OH, CRUCIFIX.
- 1:43BAD EARLY SPOT FOR THE CHAMPION.
- 1:48OH MY GOODNESS.
- 1:51I mean, crucifix is tough, man, because
- 1:53there's no known defense. You You TO
- 1:55JUST KEEP BUCKING AND BRIDGING, and
- 1:56hopefully the guy loses his arm. But it
- 1:59looks like it's getting worse right now
- 2:00for Du Plessis.
- 2:02I mean, he's really got that [cheering]
- 2:03tightened up. I mean, these aren't big
- 2:05shots, and he's kind of protecting his
- 2:06head by tucking it close to Khamzat's
- 2:09body and preventing him from hitting
- 2:11with any real force.
- 2:14But this is still a terrible position
- 2:16for the champion. 90 seconds in, Chimaev
- 2:18putting his brand of violence all over
- 2:20Du Plessis.
- 2:22But after a while, right? The ref is
- 2:23just not to stop it, cuz you want to do
- 2:25anything. I hit Patrick Cummins with
- 2:27just a whole bunch of shots. Nothing
- 2:29hard, and they stopped the fight.
- 2:30>> you hit him harder than this. Yes.
- 2:32>> This is a difference. He's he's really
- 2:33tucking his face in pretty well,
- 2:35considering.
- 2:37And this is basically nothing. Yeah,
- 2:39he's just tapping him.
- 2:40There's no force to this.
- 2:43There's no reasonable reason why you
- 2:45would stop the fight at this point.
- 2:46>> No, but he's got to get that arm out.
- 2:48That right arm in particular. He's got
- 2:50to figure out how to pop that arm out.
- 2:51Well, he's got he's he's he's bucking
- 2:53Yeah. by trying to elevate himself in
- 2:55his legs, but he needs to be bridging
- 2:57to turn.
- 2:59But these are like really small shots.
- 3:01Yeah, this is nothing. But the elbows
- 3:03potentially could be huge. He's going to
- 3:05push off with the palm and try to blast
- 3:07him with elbows. He just can't give him
- 3:09any space. And here's the problem. He
- 3:11can go
- 3:1212 to 6 elbows now from this position.
- 3:15So Du Plessis better not let him get any
- 3:16space.
- 3:20And it is great to have a a veteran
- 3:22referee here that's not going to just
- 3:24panic and stop the fight.
- 3:26Well, this isn't totally a crucifix
- 3:27right now. Oh, look at that. Arm
- 3:29triangle attempt.
- 3:30>> The arm's out though. The arm's out.
- 3:35Watch the back, please, Dricus.
- 3:37Du Plessis staying focused in the wake
- 3:39of danger.
- 3:41>> [cheering]
- 3:41>> Not out of harm's way yet. 2 minutes
- 3:43here to go in round one. I mean, this is
- 3:45without a doubt the best wrestler he's
- 3:46ever faced in his life.
- 3:48>> Yes.
- 3:48>> This is the difference. Khamzat is just
- 3:50so smothering.
- 3:52And for DDP on the bottom here,
- 3:55all the bucking and bridging takes
- 3:56energy. And I would question most
- 3:58people, but not Du Plessis. We have not
- 4:01seen him truly run out of gas. Now, but
- 4:03this is great for Khamzat, though,
- 4:05because he can hold you here
- 4:0725 minutes if he has to.
- 4:10Yeah, and clearly he's winning the
- 4:11round, but he's not really doing any
- 4:14damage. Not yet, at least.
- 4:17Du Plessis closing the distance. Go
- 4:19ahead, champ. Du Plessis is very smart
- 4:21here. He knows that a lot of the
- 4:22defenses you use against most, you can't
- 4:24use against Khamzat because of his
- 4:26submission ability.
- 4:28Pretty blatant fence grab there by Du
- 4:29Plessis. Perhaps it mattered not.
- 4:33But he's getting smooshed on the ground,
- 4:34though, isn't he? Khamzat's doing a
- 4:36great job of keeping his body between Du
- 4:38Plessis and the fence.
- 4:51And if your goal is to exhaust Chimaev,
- 4:54this won't do it. No.
- 4:56This is where he lives. Yeah, this is
- 4:57where he lives, grappling. And this is
- 4:59not exhausting for him at all. It's much
- 5:01more tiring for Du Plessis, plus his
- 5:03breathing was restricted by Khamzat's
- 5:05pressure.
- 5:09>> [cheering and applause]
- 5:11>> Over 4 minutes of time spent fighting
- 5:14off of his back for Du Plessis.
- 5:17Uncharted territory for him to be sure.
- 5:22Oh, Du Plessis has got to be careful
- 5:23here.
- 5:25OH, SMART BY DRICUS. BEAUTIFUL reversal
- 5:28by the champ.
- 5:30He went for the guillotine again.
- 5:32He keeps going guillotine. He should not
- 5:35be doing that.
- 5:37That's not the move, Joe. No. Got to try
- 5:39to stuff the head and defend takedowns.
- 5:41The entire crowd is standing for our
- 5:44championship main event.
- 5:48He's on the wrong end of a borderline
- 5:5010-8 would be smiling like Du Plessis.
- 5:52Yeah.
- 5:53Well, he really does love a war.
- 5:56He just said he didn't feel anything
- 5:59when he was on the ground.
- 6:02He's got to find a way to defend some of
- 6:03these takedowns.
- 6:06And Chimaev continues to suffocate.
- 6:12He almost had that one defended, but
- 6:14he's got stuck in his head. So, Chimaev
- 6:16was able to build back into him and take
- 6:18him down.
- 6:23Du Plessis is doing a good job of
- 6:24staying patient, but he has got to have
- 6:26some urgency to get up so he's not just
- 6:28held down for the entirety of the round.
- 6:33>> [cheering]
- 6:35>> Du Plessis sharing a moment with his
- 6:38chief corner Mornay Visser.
- 6:41Hamzat is so good at just continuing to
- 6:43drag him to the ground every time he
- 6:45tries to get up.
- 6:47He does a great job with his forward
- 6:48pressure.
- 6:50He's always forward keeping his
- 6:52opponent's weight on their hands.
- 6:55He doesn't let him build back into it.
- 6:58Watch here when Dricus starts to get up
- 7:00how he moves him back forward towards
- 7:02the mat.
- 7:10Dricus Du Plessis has attempted four
- 7:12strikes, hasn't landed any of them
- 7:15significantly at least.
- 7:2390 seconds have expired in round two. Du
- 7:26Plessis needs to attack the hands of
- 7:27Chimaev.
- 7:28Right now his hands aren't doing
- 7:30anything. He's got to attack Chimaev's
- 7:32grip to try to break his lock.
- 7:35That's step one in trying to get away
- 7:36from him.
- 7:37He's also got to be very careful he
- 7:39doesn't completely give up his back from
- 7:40this position where it looks like it's
- 7:42really close.
- 7:46Chimaev is doing exactly what he needs
- 7:48to do.
- 7:49Du Plessis seems pretty
- 7:51composed in there. But again, [cheering]
- 7:53he's he's down. Yes.
- 7:55>> First round and
- 7:56if it stays like this, he'll be down two
- 7:58rounds.
- 7:59And Hamzat is not really expending a lot
- 8:02of energy here. Yep. I mean, it's
- 8:03nothing that's exhausting him cuz he's
- 8:05not being defensive at all.
- 8:08He's just riding him.
- 8:10Our UFC 319 fight clock is presented by
- 8:12the Terminal List Dark Wolf of Prequel
- 8:13Series starring Taylor Kitsch and Chris
- 8:15Pratt only on Prime Video.
- 8:18Oh, he's got a
- 8:20He's got the joke here.
- 8:22Dricus recognized it.
- 8:32Three takedown attempts for Chimaev,
- 8:34he's secured them all. North of 7
- 8:36minutes of ground control time.
- 8:48Du Plessis is staying composed
- 8:50defensively, trying to fight a hand.
- 8:52But Du Plessis has got to get two hands
- 8:54on one to try to get up to his feet.
- 8:57Right now, Chimaev is doing a really
- 8:59good job of just controlling, following,
- 9:02making it hard for Du Plessis to get up
- 9:03and when he does, he just drives him
- 9:05back to the mat.
- 9:09Total striking which is pretty wild, but
- 9:11as we've seen before, not a single
- 9:12significant strike absorbed as yet by
- 9:15Hamzat Chimaev.
- 9:19I mean, he went multiple fights without
- 9:21getting hit at all. Right.
- 9:28Every UFC opponent that he has tried to
- 9:30take down,
- 9:31he has succeeded in doing so.
- 9:37The hand fighting
- 9:39of Chimaev, the wrist control is very
- 9:41impressive.
- 9:42Every time DDP starts trying to get up,
- 9:45he just attacks his hands.
- 9:46>> [cheering]
- 9:48>> Shout out to his mentor, the late
- 9:50three-time Olympic gold medalist
- 9:51Buvaisar Saitiev, who passed in March of
- 9:54this year.
- 9:56Showed Chimaev a lot of things over the
- 9:58years. Saitiev was the man.
- 10:02Under a minute here to go in round two.
- 10:04It's been all Chimaev
- 10:06in Chicago.
- 10:10Du Plessis isn't have any answers here.
- 10:12Yep.
- 10:13Look at that, Joe. You see forward,
- 10:14forward, forward every time. So,
- 10:18now,
- 10:19at the end of round one, when he when
- 10:21Dricus went to the corner, his coach was
- 10:23smiling with him.
- 10:25I wonder what the early feet will look
- 10:26like now that two rounds have played out
- 10:29in this way.
- 10:30Right? Because while your champion isn't
- 10:33taking much damage, he is losing rounds.
- 10:36There's only three left now. Yeah, it
- 10:38might be less smiling.
- 10:41>> [cheering]
- 10:46>> This is kind of crazy. Yeah, it is. Kind
- 10:48of crazy how much control he has. He's
- 10:50got to make the takedowns harder.
- 10:52That's the That's the thing.
- 10:54Even if he gets taken down, it can't
- 10:56happen on the first attempt. He's got to
- 10:57make Chimaev Standing ovation greets the
- 10:59athletes to begin round three of a
- 11:02possible five. Dricus Du Plessis in the
- 11:04green and Khamzat Chimaev in the black
- 11:06and blue.
- 11:07See how quickly Chimaev shoots this
- 11:09time. There it is.
- 11:12I mean, Du Plessis is not defending.
- 11:14He's not having any luck defending
- 11:15takedowns.
- 11:24Five takedowns out of as many attempts
- 11:26for Chimaev.
- 11:31Make six.
- 11:36Right into side control again.
- 11:38Unbelievable.
- 11:42Du Plessis not the type of fighter to
- 11:44get frustrated, but he has had nothing
- 11:47resembling an answer through 11 minutes.
- 11:49I mean, just the control time.
- 11:52We've only fought
- 11:53I mean, 11 minutes. How much control
- 11:55time is it? Over 10? Yeah. Crazy. It's
- 11:58crazy.
- 12:05Din Thomas, what do you have, sir? Well,
- 12:08the one thing that Gilbert Burns had
- 12:10against Chimaev was a good guard because
- 12:13it's clear that when Chimaev is on top
- 12:15and he's able to just rotate around his
- 12:17opponent, he's not going to get tired.
- 12:18But when Gilbert Burns was in his guard,
- 12:20it made CHIMAEV WORK SO MUCH THAT HE
- 12:23ACTUALLY STOOD UP OUT OF THE GUARD. If
- 12:25Du Plessis has a guard, now is the time
- 12:27to use it.
- 12:29Great observation, Dino. Three and a
- 12:31half to go round three.
- 12:34I don't know that they're going to let
- 12:35Chimaev stay on top in the way that they
- 12:37did in the first two rounds. He's going
- 12:39to have to do some damage
- 12:41um
- 12:42in round three, four, and five or
- 12:43they'll stand him up. Yeah, but he's in
- 12:45dominant positions. I don't see Oh, he
- 12:47got him again. Back to the crucifix
- 12:49again.
- 12:50This time it's almost wrapped up. Now
- 12:52it's wrapped up. Now that right arm is
- 12:54trapped and the left arm is trapped as
- 12:56well.
- 13:01He's got no answer for the grappling.
- 13:04It's kind of stunning because we've seen
- 13:06Khamzat dominate on the ground before,
- 13:08but this is probably the most dominant
- 13:10we've seen him.
- 13:11And looks like finally Du Plessis has
- 13:13been opened up. Some blood trickling out
- 13:15of that left eye.
- 13:17All the elbows landed there.
- 13:34>> When Duplessis looks to his left, it's
- 13:36hard for Hamzat to get anything of
- 13:38substance. But it's when he tries to
- 13:40turn in the opposite direction is when
- 13:41Hamzat hits him with some bigger shots.
- 13:46Absolutely incredible to watch the
- 13:48challenger handle the champ in this
- 13:51manner.
- 13:52Just crucifix after crucifix. It's
- 13:54crazy. Yeah, this control is bananas.
- 13:58Chimaev Go ahead, champ. Dricus has got
- 14:00to try to use his legs or something to
- 14:02catch Chimaev's ankle. He's got to do
- 14:04something, Joe. Yeah, he he just can't
- 14:07He's trying. He reached over with that
- 14:09right leg momentarily, but
- 14:12the difference in grappling is just
- 14:13astonishing. It's unbelievable to watch
- 14:15Dricus dominated in this way.
- 14:18Oh, there it is. Over.
- 14:19>> There it is.
- 14:21Crushing elbow right on that earline for
- 14:23Chimaev.
- 14:26NOW THE SHOTS [cheering] ARE GETTING
- 14:26BIGGER.
- 14:35Chimaev is building a gym in his home
- 14:37village in Chechnya might very well have
- 14:39a new gold belt to bring home if things
- 14:42continue on this path. Well, this is
- 14:44about as dominant a performance from a
- 14:46challenger as we have seen in a really
- 14:47long time.
- 14:49Duplessis has had no answers
- 14:52for Chimaev's wrestling and his
- 14:53grappling.
- 14:55And it looks like he popped that right
- 14:57arm out. There's no pressure on it now.
- 15:01But he's
- 15:02completely being dominated and so
- 15:04exhausted.
- 15:04>> out now. Yeah, his arm's out.
- 15:07But I mean, he got beat up worse in this
- 15:09round than he has the entire fight.
- 15:12Now he's moaning.
- 15:13>> [cheering]
- 15:16>> Joe.
- 15:20Chimaev smashing away trying to a WAY
- 15:22UNDER THE CHIN.
- 15:25Dricus is fighting it off, but man, is
- 15:26he getting dominated.
- 15:27>> Yes, he is.
- 15:29And we are three rounds down, and he has
- 15:31gotten nothing off. I mean, has he
- 15:33landed a significant strike yet, London?
- 15:35One.
- 15:36>> Really?
- 15:37Yeah, I would say it
- 15:40Final 20 seconds of round three.
- 15:43I don't think it was significant.
- 15:47And what is the rest of the middleweight
- 15:48division thinking right now?
- 15:50Watching this. Well, if you're Reinier
- 15:52de Ridder, you're thinking, "I'm a
- 15:53really good grappler." Reinier de Ridder
- 15:55is a great grappler. That's the
- 15:56difference. But that's the thing though,
- 15:57but is Reinier de Ridder a great
- 15:59striker?
- 16:00Because we see Chimaev strike with the
- 16:01guys that can grapple.
- 16:03All Chimaev through three.
- 16:07Round four of a possible five.
- 16:11Dricus' coach told him no more crucifix.
- 16:13I don't know if he comes out of another
- 16:15crucifix. If he gets crucifixed again,
- 16:17he may get the fight stopped. Dricus has
- 16:19got to lower his stance and abandon the
- 16:21idea of kicks. He sprawls. There you go.
- 16:24>> sprawls.
- 16:25There it is. And again. Oh my goodness.
- 16:28I mean, this is crazy, man. Crazy. It's
- 16:31literally 20 seconds every round.
- 16:37I mean, he's just getting mauled.
- 16:40I mean, has nobody tried to wrestle
- 16:42Dricus du Plessis before? Because I've
- 16:44never seen him look No one at this level
- 16:46can defend takedowns like this. So,
- 16:47there's no one at this level that he's
- 16:49ever fought with.
- 16:50Yeah, Brunson had some success a long
- 16:52time ago, but not on Chimaev's level in
- 16:54terms of the MMA wrestling.
- 16:56He's seven of eight on his takedown
- 16:58attempts.
- 17:01With so much control time.
- 17:05Seems like perhaps some deflation
- 17:07finally starting to set in a little bit
- 17:10for the unflappable champ du Plessis.
- 17:13And
- 17:13it has to be fatigue. Yeah.
- 17:16As tough and as durable and as much
- 17:18endurance as he has, he's just been
- 17:20dominated
- 17:22for three straight rounds and now deep
- 17:24into the fourth.
- 17:25>> [cheering]
- 17:26>> And it took him much longer than most
- 17:28fighters
- 17:29for frustration to set in because
- 17:32Right.
- 17:33Now he's attacking the lock a little
- 17:34bit.
- 17:36Oh, oh my goodness.
- 17:38He just shook him off.
- 17:41Chimaev is just a step ahead of him with
- 17:43his takedowns, his wrestling.
- 17:45Just his knowledge in those positions,
- 17:48even in the clinch.
- 17:50He's just a little ahead of him.
- 17:59>> [cheering]
- 17:59>> First warning
- 18:01from Marc Goddard looking for a little
- 18:03bit more activity out of Chimaev. You
- 18:05know, I kind of disagree with that
- 18:06because this is fighting and he's doing
- 18:09it very effectively.
- 18:12He's doing exactly what he wants to do.
- 18:14To say that he should be doing something
- 18:15different when he's totally dominant
- 18:17seems to be kind of crazy.
- 18:20And his cardio looks amazing. He does
- 18:22not look fatigued at all. Well, he
- 18:23hasn't really been challenged. It's
- 18:25basically him on the offense choosing
- 18:28when to strike, completely in control,
- 18:31making Dricus carry his weight.
- 18:38Well, we said off the top of the
- 18:40broadcast, Dricus Du Plessis as champion
- 18:43was the biggest betting underdog
- 18:45defending his title in UFC middleweight
- 18:46history and uh Now we know why.
- 18:50Oh, look, Dricus tried to roll, but it
- 18:52was a half-hearted granby roll. Well,
- 18:53that roll shows he's tired now. Yes.
- 18:56He's getting back in the crucifix,
- 18:57though. Yep.
- 18:57>> I've never seen somebody get crucifix
- 18:59that many times. No, it's kind of crazy.
- 19:07He just can't do anything about it.
- 19:09Khamzat slides that left shin across the
- 19:11arm and he just has no answers.
- 19:15He can't get that arm back. I mean
- 19:17that's the top pressure that Hamzat has.
- 19:18That's just amazing. The way the the the
- 19:22where Hamzat is messing up on that
- 19:23crucifix is he's putting it right
- 19:25between his legs. You don't need to do
- 19:27that. You need to put your knee above
- 19:28the elbow AND KEEP YOUR SHIN BEHIND IT.
- 19:31Then their arm just goes up and down
- 19:34your shin. They can never get out. Look
- 19:36how excited you get. I like that
- 19:37crucifix. I like I spoke to Listen to me
- 19:40how that felt when he had him in that
- 19:41position.
- 19:41>> Yeah, it was right beneath my shin.
- 19:46Late round four.
- 19:48A dominant performance from the
- 19:50challenger doesn't even begin to
- 19:51describe it. I mean this is going to be
- 19:53one of the craziest score cards we've
- 19:55seen in a long time if it continues like
- 19:57this. Like Amanda Nunes versus Felicia
- 19:59Spencer, a 50 to 40 in there. I mean
- 20:01this is fantastic. I kind of Yeah, you
- 20:03can kind of make that call because even
- 20:05though there's not been a lot of damage,
- 20:06oh my god, he's going to separate them.
- 20:09That I
- 20:10Man, they don't like that. They don't
- 20:12like that. Now imagine Dricus wins by
- 20:14knockout now.
- 20:15>> He's got TO JUST GO. DRICUS NEEDS TO
- 20:17JUST GO. LOOK.
- 20:20OH. WOW.
- 20:22>> can't stop it. He just can't stop the
- 20:24takedown.
- 20:25And you see the fatigue in Dricus now
- 20:27the way he's moving.
- 20:34So the referee
- 20:36>> [cheering]
- 20:36>> dangles a carrot for Du Plessis. He gets
- 20:38taken down immediately by Chimaev. Ninth
- 20:41takedown on 11 attempts.
- 20:43>> He also dangled a carrot for the
- 20:45bloodthirsty savages in the crowd that
- 20:46want to stand up again. Yeah.
- 20:49I mean and just the way DDP's going back
- 20:51to the mat now, you can tell he's
- 20:53wearing down. Look at that. Oh, there it
- 20:55is. You can tell he's wearing down.
- 20:57He's doing a great job of defending the
- 20:59choke.
- 21:00This is maybe the most dominant four
- 21:04rounds Yeah.
- 21:05>> that we've ever seen challenger have.
- 21:08Taking no punishment whatsoever.
- 21:11Look how fresh Hamzat looks. Yep. I
- 21:15Go ahead, John. No, he has shattered the
- 21:16record for ground strikes landed in a
- 21:17UFC fight by more than 100. We got 5
- 21:19minutes to go.
- 21:21I love his corner telling him, "You've
- 21:22got to get low.
- 21:24You've got to get low.
- 21:26Squat your stance a little bit if you're
- 21:28DDP."
- 21:30That's a good way to Get low. Give up on
- 21:32the kicks. Oh.
- 21:34Another one.
- 21:37Too easy. Unbelievable.
- 21:40Just unbelievable.
- 21:42Hey, 30 seconds.
- 21:43All that striking and it still just took
- 21:45him less than 30 seconds to get a
- 21:47takedown and he's going to put him back
- 21:49in the crucifix.
- 21:55>> [cheering]
- 22:03>> Same position again. This is bananas.
- 22:09Just caught a wry smile out of the eye
- 22:11of Arman Tsarukyan to our right in the
- 22:13corner of Hamzat Chimaev.
- 22:16Trying to find a finish here late.
- 22:19Against the guy who looks like he'll be
- 22:21the former champion soon in Dricus du
- 22:22Plessis. Oh, look at that. Americana.
- 22:32See, Dricus is now trying to go two
- 22:34hands on one.
- 22:35He should be trying to take a baseball
- 22:38bat grip over the arm. When Chimaev
- 22:41reaches over to try to choke,
- 22:42he should grab that wrist and hold it
- 22:44with two arms and then try to turn
- 22:46towards him. Right there.
- 22:48Now he's got to keep that wrist.
- 22:51He released it.
- 22:59These are honestly just wrestling
- 23:00positions you learn when you were a kid.
- 23:03Two hands on the wrist. Keep the wrist.
- 23:05Don't give it back. Chimaev just
- 23:07continuously takes his arm back and goes
- 23:09back to work.
- 23:14Just incredible.
- 23:16And Dricus just does not have the energy
- 23:18once he gets to his feet to explode and
- 23:20separate.
- 23:23Chimaev said this week 8 years of hard
- 23:26work and expenditure towards the
- 23:27ultimate goal now less than 3 minutes
- 23:29away. Dricus' coach
- 23:32was a bit frustrated. Uh in between
- 23:35rounds you could see he didn't really
- 23:37know
- 23:38what to tell his student outside of you
- 23:41just got to finish him.
- 23:42But you could sense Oh, HERE WE GO.
- 23:46OH.
- 23:49FINALLY A MOMENT LATE FOR THE CHAMP.
- 23:51DDP does not give up on himself, man.
- 23:54That is crazy.
- 23:55Cuz most fighters, Jon, at this point
- 23:57would have turned over and let him
- 23:58submit him. Oh, get him.
- 24:00Oh, man.
- 24:02Chimaev urgently pops his head out. Man,
- 24:05that was it. That was his opportunity.
- 24:08The one opportunity of the fight.
- 24:12He went for it. Yeah, he went for it,
- 24:14but
- 24:16>> [cheering]
- 24:16>> maybe he should have maintained
- 24:18position.
- 24:20>> [cheering]
- 24:21>> Well, if Khamzat Chimaev can maintain
- 24:23position, he is going to be the
- 24:26undisputed UFC middleweight champion.
- 24:31Dricus is going to get one more sprint.
- 24:34If Khamzat doesn't improve his position,
- 24:36Dricus is going to pick him up again.
- 24:39He'll get one more chance, I believe.
- 24:45Yeah, you can stand him up here. There
- 24:47it is, see? He's going to get one more
- 24:49chance.
- 24:52Sharp protest from Chimaev who felt like
- 24:54he was busy enough. Back to the feet
- 24:56with just over a minute to go.
- 25:01Dricus is looking to kick again.
- 25:16OH! A LATE CONNECTION BY DRICUS.
- 25:22OH! WOW!
- 25:24OH, he's hurt.
- 25:26He's got to take his legs back.
- 25:30LIKE, LOOK AT HIS LEFT LEG. IT'S JUST SO
- 25:32FAR back right now.
- 25:35Because Hamzat going to take him down.
- 25:39OH!
- 25:41>> [cheering]
- 25:41>> OH!
- 25:46DRICUS WISELY GOES FOR A late
- 25:48submission.
- 25:51Do it!
- 25:55Dricus has got to be careful. He's
- 25:56trying to get that left hook in, but he
- 25:57doesn't have it, and he might fall off
- 25:59the top.
- 25:59>> Yeah, he's too HIGH. HIGH UP.
- 26:01HAMZAT JUST NEEDS to dip his right
- 26:02shoulder. But, he's okay just sitting
- 26:04here. He knows there's short time.
- 26:10FINAL SECONDS.
- 26:13HAMZAT CHIMAEV
- 26:15HAS done it.
- 26:20Wow.
- 26:23Total domination BELL TO BELL, and we
- 26:27will soon hear and new undisputed UFC
- 26:31middleweight champion at long last.
- 26:34Chechnya's Hamzat Borz Chimaev.
- 26:45Daniel, throughout your time as one of
- 26:47the all-time greats in the UFC, your
- 26:49foes would know what was coming, and
- 26:51they couldn't stop it.
- 26:54Some parallels to be drawn there. Nobody
- 26:56can stop the shot of this man and he was
- 26:58at his suffocating best tonight.
- 26:59>> I mean, he looked as good as you would
- 27:01expect him to look with his biggest
- 27:02opportunity. Double leg shot. Get to the
- 27:05corner immediately. Putting DDP down.
- 27:07Every round, John.
- 27:10I think Khamzat Chimaev scored a
- 27:12takedown with 30 seconds into the round.
- 27:14Every round. And then just controlled
- 27:17him. Dricus Du Plessis really struggled
- 27:20from the bottom. I mean, here you go.
- 27:22Crucifix number of five.
- 27:25Takedown number 11. Hey. Khamzat Chimaev
- 27:29had his way with one of the best
- 27:31champions we've seen in a really long
- 27:32time.
- 27:34But just pace, pressure, wrestling.
- 27:36Every time DDP thought he'd have an
- 27:37opportunity to strike, Khamzat would
- 27:40just take him down.
- 27:42Punch, shot, double leg, angle, take him
- 27:45down. I mean,
- 27:46it was beautiful.
- 27:48Ladies and gentlemen, after five rounds,
- 27:52we go to the judges' score cards for a
- 27:54decision. All three judges scored this
- 27:56contest 50-44
- 27:59for THE WINNER BY UNANIMOUS DECISION,
- 28:03AND
- 28:05NEW
- 28:06>> [screaming]
