7. 0:13seen a cow's hoof like this as you can
8. 0:15see me touching this part of my hoof
9. 0:17does not seem to bother her in the
10. 0:19slightest I need to feel and explore the
11. 0:22projections to understand exactly what
12. 0:24we're dealing with and figure out
13. 0:26whether or not they're connected to the
14. 0:28blood supply
15. 0:29this is a young heifer she's just a
16. 0:32first Carver and actually I found out
17. 0:34later after this video that she had an
18. 0:36accident when she was younger and that
19. 0:39accident has resulted in this a deformed
20. 0:42hoof sprouting keratin fingers that
21. 0:45isn't here it's not strands from digital
22. 0:48dermatitis or Haley Waters some of you
23. 0:50may be thinking
24. 0:51those are keratin fingers and they are
25. 0:54replacing what should have been the wall
26. 0:56horn this in effect is a hyperplasia
27. 0:59it's hyper growth spawned on by the fact
28. 1:02that this hoof has been deformed and
29. 1:04been left open to the elements

31. 1:25some of them well have a blood supply to
32. 1:27them so I need to be very careful which
33. 1:29ones are remove and which ones I don't

35. 1:35underneath all of those keratin fingers
36. 1:37is a raw and open wound this cow is in
37. 1:41pain which is why I'm applying a block
38. 1:44to this outer hoof in this case we're
39. 1:46going to use two blocks two extremely
40. 1:48long lasting polyurethane blocks this
41. 1:52problem is not one that's going to
42. 1:53disappear overnight and I'm not willing
43. 1:55to take any chances by putting on a low
44. 1:58block I want to give out as much pain
45. 2:00relief as possible for as long as
46. 2:02possible and a block like a polyurethane
47. 2:05one like I'm just about to attach we'll
48. 2:07do that it'll barely wear out at all and
49. 2:10it'll provide the much needed height to
50. 2:13get that sore deformed hoof off the
51. 2:15ground

54. 2:35fingers and I worry that it hurts the
55. 2:37cow in some way but as you can see she
56. 2:39doesn't even Flinch I need to wash the
57. 2:42dark debris and any manure from out
58. 2:44between the carrot and fingers so the
59. 2:46inner thing I apply to it later will
60. 2:48reach the target otherwise it'll just
61. 2:51form a barrier and anything I use will
62. 2:53be powerless in the fight against this
63. 2:55problem

65. 2:58it is time to flatten off this outer
66. 3:00claw and apply those two polyurethane

70. 3:13stride her foot does not hit the ground
71. 3:15parallel to it or perpendicularly to it
72. 3:18and it doesn't leave in the same way
73. 3:20either so you'll notice as I put these
74. 3:23blocks on I stagger them towards the
75. 3:25back that's to make sure the angle of
76. 3:27the rollover will be sufficient
77. 3:28otherwise she won't walk on the blocks
78. 3:30properly and once that's done it's time
79. 3:33to remove or carve away as much of this
80. 3:35hoof as we possibly can to give this
81. 3:38carrot as much relief and chance of
82. 3:40completely recovering from this as
83. 3:42possible
84. 3:44you can see me really carefully removing
85. 3:46those character fingers but when we come
86. 3:48around the front you'll see the true
87. 3:50extent of the problem
88. 3:52we're wrapping this little cow's hoof
89. 3:54with salicylic acid because that powder
90. 3:56is going to kill the outer layers of
91. 3:58tissue and hopefully fight back those
92. 4:01carrot and fingers so that you who've
93. 4:03horn can eventually grow in its place
94. 4:05make no mistake though this is not a
95. 4:08problem that will be fixed overnight but
96. 4:10it is a problem that we are going to
97. 4:12revisit so if you want to follow her
