- 0:00If your happiness depends on the actions
- 0:03of others,
- 0:05you know, you're at mercy of things that
- 0:07you can't control. The best-selling
- 0:09author and host
- 0:09The number one health and wellness
- 0:11podcast
- 0:12with Jay Shetty
- 0:15Yeah, I'm not even just saying this. I
- 0:16literally
- 0:18think I manifested this. Like it's the
- 0:20after I saw you at Simeon Haze's house.
- 0:24So that was a couple months ago and then
- 0:25a few weeks ago my I was talking to my
- 0:27social media girl randomly. We were just
- 0:29talking about a bunch of stuff um and
- 0:31just kind of what I would love to
- 0:34represent and just talking about a new
- 0:35chapter for me and whatever and I was
- 0:37she was like
- 0:38"Who would you really want to like talk
- 0:39to or whatever?" And I was like, "It'd
- 0:41be so cool to talk to Jay." And she was
- 0:43like, "That would be really cool." And
- 0:44then we kind of just that was kind of
- 0:46the thought and whatever and then you
- 0:47hit me and I was like, "No freaking way.
- 0:50He's hitting me right now." So I was
- 0:51like, "Absolutely. This is like perfect.
- 0:53It's the universe just putting it in
- 0:55perfect timing because
- 0:56That that makes me so happy because it
- 0:57was exactly the opposite way. So I've
- 1:01for a long time had people that I'd love
- 1:03to sit down with and every time I saw
- 1:04you do something with mental health in
- 1:06Vogue or any of the segments that you
- 1:08ever did, I was just like, "She's
- 1:09amazing." Like, you know, it's
- 1:11incredible to the way you were talking
- 1:12about it when you'd post about it. I'd
- 1:14be like, "Oh, this is incredible." Like
- 1:16to see see you speaking so openly about
- 1:18it and vulnerably about it.
- 1:19And so I've always wanted to do this and
- 1:21then but we've never really crossed
- 1:23paths and so I'm always just a bit like
- 1:25and I don't like asking friends of
- 1:27friends when I haven't met someone and
- 1:28Right. So I I was like that day I had to
- 1:30like pluck up the courage and be like,
- 1:31"I'm just going to ask her myself." Cuz
- 1:33it's easier when I ask direct and I know
- 1:35Christie so
- 1:37but I was like I it's nicer when there's
- 1:39I told my team too. I was like, "It's so
- 1:40much nicer when there's like a personal
- 1:41connection
- 1:42For sure.
- 1:42and someone really feels comfortable
- 1:44rather than it's like a PR thing.
- 1:46was it was so perfect. Like when I think
- 1:48back to it, I'm like, "That was me just
- 1:50trusting the universe and not pushing
- 1:52for anything and I knew it was going to
- 1:54kind of happen when it was supposed to."
- 1:55And it literally did. So,
- 1:57you felt it, too.
- 1:58Yeah, I did. That means a lot to me.
- 2:00Yeah, and and I hope that this is the
- 2:01start of spending more time together,
- 2:03Me, too. I would love that.
- 2:04camera, too. I would love that, cuz like
- 2:06I think also, I don't know, like I
- 2:08admire people like you. I admire like,
- 2:12you know, the the Michael Pollans and
- 2:14Michael Singers and Wim Hofs of the
- 2:16world, and I feel like you fit in that
- 2:18category for me of just people that are
- 2:20Cuz you know, I know a little bit about
- 2:21your story. I'd like to actually know
- 2:23more, which would be really cool to act
- 2:24I know obviously not here to ask you for
- 2:26that, exactly. But, for me just
- 2:29personally, like I'd love to know more
- 2:30of your story. I know that
- 2:32you've had quite the experiences, and I
- 2:34think that's so cool. I'm like so
- 2:36intrigued by people with just that
- 2:38amount of curiosity and like
- 2:40determination determination and
- 2:41patience. Like that takes so much
- 2:44patience to be like you or like any of
- 2:47those people that I just listed. It's so
- 2:48cool to me, and I just I wish I wish for
- 2:51myself, but I'm working on it.
- 2:52that curious, too. You're that curious,
- 2:54yeah.
- 2:55It's just, you know, that that level of,
- 2:57like I said, patience and deter-
- 2:58determination is like
- 3:01it's a gift. Like that is like a really
- 3:03really amazing gift, and like I said,
- 3:06like I'm just working on it all the
- 3:07time, and I that's my goal in life, I
- 3:09guess.
- 3:10Well, well, I I think I feel the same
- 3:11way about you again that And by the way,
- 3:14I love all these people you just
- 3:15mentioned, too. So, so I feel very
- 3:17honored to be put into that group of
- 3:18people. And we've had Wim on the podcast
- 3:20before, too. So, he's been a guest. But,
- 3:21with you,
- 3:23I feel the same way back when it's like
- 3:24when when you see someone who is so
- 3:26curious, who could get away with not
- 3:29worrying about these things if you don't
- 3:30want to, but then still being courageous
- 3:31enough to talk about these things, and
- 3:33then using your platform as a space to
- 3:35open up these dialogues. Like that is as
- 3:38if not more important, as well, as as
- 3:41doing the work and doing the path.
- 3:42Yeah. I mean, I I I can
- 3:43I I can see you doing the work. It's fun
- 3:44watching you do the work and figuring it
- 3:46out.
- 3:46I love working on myself. Like it is
- 3:49actually like a passion of mine, and
- 3:51like I just
- 3:53I find so much comfort and joy and like
- 3:55actually finding where I think I could
- 3:58better myself and being like, even if
- 4:00it's physical, like physical as in like
- 4:02my physical health or working out or I
- 4:04just started doing, speaking of Wim Hof,
- 4:06I just started doing like cold plunges
- 4:07and ice baths and like even if I don't
- 4:09have the time to go outside, I just got
- 4:11a cold plunge. I did it right before I
- 4:12got here. It's the best thing ever. It's
- 4:14also
- 4:14yeah. So, again, it takes so much mental
- 4:17like the whole thing of it is all
- 4:18mental. So, I don't know, just stuff
- 4:21like that I really love. So, I'm always
- 4:24I'm always trying to just be the best
- 4:26version of me, and so I just love that.
- 4:28It like actually makes me feel really
- 4:30good. I love self-care, and I just love
- 4:31stuff like that. So, it's been really
- 4:33cool, but it's cool for you
- 4:35to say that you enjoy seeing that from
- 4:38me because there's always been kind of
- 4:40this weird part of it for me where I'm
- 4:42like, is this a pity party? Cuz I don't
- 4:44want it to be. Like I want this to feel
- 4:46very
- 4:47positive. I want to connect with people,
- 4:49and I guess that's that is my goal there
- 4:51is to be like there actually is this
- 4:52side of me that you might may not know
- 4:54of, but the goal here is to connect and
- 4:58also not feel like I'm throwing some
- 5:02pity party for myself because I want
- 5:03this to be a learning experience for
- 5:05everyone. I want this to be really
- 5:06positive and really really well
- 5:08received. I want you to look at it and
- 5:10actually have a positive feeling towards
- 5:11it. So, I don't know, you'll find like
- 5:13if I, you know, when I do kind of post
- 5:15about something or when I want to talk
- 5:17about something, I'm usually sharing a
- 5:19tip or like sharing kind of like a
- 5:21little technique, even if it's something
- 5:22so simple as like walking outside,
- 5:24taking a few deep breaths, and
- 5:25journaling. Like
- 5:26Yeah. it's just that kind of stuff that
- 5:28I really like um to share cuz I feel
- 5:31like I want to be helpful Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:34Absolutely. And that's how I That's at
- 5:35least how I see it. I see it not not
- 5:37completely
- 5:38not as a pity party at all, but so much
- 5:40more as just, "Hey, here's a reminder or
- 5:42here's something that I did." And I feel
- 5:44like that positivity shines through,
- 5:46too, in the way you do it, so at least
- 5:48if that helps, whatever that's worth
- 5:50from the outside, it definitely comes
- 5:52across that way. And and this has easily
- 5:54been the warmest introduction to a flow
- 5:56of a conversation I've ever experienced
- 5:58in my entire life of doing this.
- 5:59say I was actually I was actually really
- 6:01nervous coming in here cuz this means so
- 6:03much to me. Like and I'm serious cuz you
- 6:05know, I've done a a lot of interviews in
- 6:07my life and when when thinking about
- 6:10this one or thinking about that I even
- 6:11wanted to do something like this, it
- 6:13just it it means a lot to me. And so it
- 6:16made me a little nervous. And I was like
- 6:17I just want to get this right. This
- 6:18isn't like, you know, me going out and
- 6:20promoting something or talking about
- 6:21something. This is, you know, something
- 6:24very real that um we all experience,
- 6:26which is just, you know, our ourselves
- 6:29and our well-being and just everything.
- 6:31So Yeah, and this is this is a, you
- 6:33know, for me genuinely and I and I
- 6:35really do mean this. Like the podcast
- 6:36has been a
- 6:38great excuse or really for my side an
- 6:41intention to get to know people and I
- 6:43really admire.
- 6:43Yeah. And so for me it's been a great
- 6:45way of building new friendships and
- 6:47relationships because if you can sit and
- 6:48talk to someone and really get along
- 6:49with each other, you're like, "Oh, we
- 6:51should do this more often." And so Well,
- 6:52I'm honored. Yeah, so for me it's
- 6:54definitely been that and to me, you
- 6:56know,
- 6:57you saying that and, you know, taking it
- 6:59as intentionally as you are, it's, you
- 7:01know, for me it's as important I I
- 7:03always share this before we start
- 7:04recording usually, but we just flowed.
- 7:07Hey everyone, welcome back to On
- 7:09Purpose, the number one health podcast
- 7:11in the world. Thanks to each and every
- 7:12single one of you that come back every
- 7:14week to listen, learn, and grow. Now,
- 7:17it's very rare that I get to sit down
- 7:18with someone that I have admired for a
- 7:20very long time from afar. Someone that I
- 7:22believe has inspired me through the
- 7:24sharing of their story. Someone who
- 7:26speaks so vulnerably and openly about
- 7:28the things that I most care about.
- 7:29Mental health, purpose, uh the journey
- 7:32of life and discovery and curiosity. And
- 7:36what I want to share about this person
- 7:37is when I bumped into them at a mutual
- 7:38friend's birthday party and I just want
- 7:40to give a big big shout out to Simi and
- 7:41Haze because this wouldn't happen
- 7:43without them. I love you Simeon Haze.
- 7:44You've been amazing guest on the podcast
- 7:46before as well. Uh I wouldn't have
- 7:48bumped into this individual and had this
- 7:49opportunity to reach out to them. And as
- 7:52soon as I reached out, this has been the
- 7:53most flowing conversation and connection
- 7:56that I've possibly had on the podcast to
- 7:57be honest. So, I just want to put that
- 7:59out. I'm speaking about the one and
- 8:00only, someone who needs no introduction,
- 8:02but successful business founder,
- 8:04international supermodel, uh founder of
- 8:07the incredibly successful tequila brand
- 8:08818, and star on the Hulu's The
- 8:11Kardashians, which premieres in second
- 8:14season on September 22nd, the one and
- 8:16only Kendall Jenner. Kendall, thank you
- 8:19so much for doing this.
- 8:20having me. That was a wonderful
- 8:21introduction. Oh, well, it's it's
- 8:24honestly been such an honor getting to
- 8:25know someone who
- 8:27it's very rare that I find someone who
- 8:29functions in with very similar values in
- 8:32in a personal connection sense. So, when
- 8:34I reached out to you,
- 8:36I I really meant everything I said. And
- 8:38I could have written you an essay, but I
- 8:39was like, let's spare her the details.
- 8:41And then to to get your response and
- 8:43then for us to be here within a couple
- 8:45of weeks of connecting. Yeah. And even
- 8:47your message this morning, I just want
- 8:48people to know. I was like,
- 8:49the the text you sent me this morning, I
- 8:51was like,
- 8:52this never happens. Like, I was like,
- 8:53this is amazing. And I was like, but and
- 8:55I was literally going to do the same
- 8:56thing. And so, to me I was like, this is
- 8:57very rare. And so, I love the synergy
- 9:00and the flow that we're experiencing and
- 9:01Me too. I'm excited to get into it now.
- 9:04Yeah.
- 9:04funny cuz I called I called Haze before
- 9:06um the other day and I was just like,
- 9:08"Oh my god, I'm going on your friend's
- 9:09show." and whatever. And she was like,
- 9:11"He's the best. It's going You're just
- 9:13going to flow right into it. He's so
- 9:15easy to talk to." And that's literally
- 9:16what happened. And like I told you, I
- 9:18just feel like I manifested this moment
- 9:20for for both of us and for this just
- 9:22this whole experience. And so, I am
- 9:25really happy to be here. And I'm
- 9:26honestly honored. Like I said, I admire
- 9:27you and I There's so many people like
- 9:30you that I admire. So, I think sitting
- 9:31down here with you is just so cool for
- 9:34me. And I get to talk about fun things
- 9:36with you.
- 9:36Amazing. Amazing. First of many. And And
- 9:39I wanted to start with because I I
- 9:40always like to start with just things
- 9:41that I've seen more recently. A couple
- 9:43of days ago, I think you posted a
- 9:44beautiful picture of you hugging your
- 9:45horse.
- 9:46Uh and you were like, you know, like
- 9:47snuggle time or something like that. And
- 9:49I was just like, when when did horses
- 9:51become a part of your life and how did
- 9:54you get so close to them? I think I've
- 9:55spent many lifetimes with horses. I
- 9:58think this is very one of many lifetimes
- 10:00that I've had. I grew up in a horse
- 10:02community. So, where we grew up, horses
- 10:04everywhere. Trai More trails than there
- 10:07were homes, really. And so, I was always
- 10:09around horses, and I just was deeply in
- 10:11love with them. And I have no
- 10:13explanation, and that's why I say I feel
- 10:14like in past lives I have just been
- 10:16around horses. Yeah, so since I was a
- 10:18really young kid, loved them and
- 10:22continued to love them my whole life.
- 10:24They're just the best. They're the most
- 10:26majestic and gorgeous and spiritual.
- 10:29They feel everything. I just like It's
- 10:32such an honor to be in their presence
- 10:34and to be able to do what I can do with
- 10:36my horse I find so magical, that I can
- 10:39stand in her stall with her and just
- 10:41like vibe out with her. I I like
- 10:43sometimes come to like a little get a
- 10:45little teary-eyed when I'm standing in
- 10:46my stall with her cuz I'm like, this is
- 10:48so cool that you allow me to do this and
- 10:49we have this connection without any
- 10:51words. It's just the best thing ever.
- 10:53So, I love them.
- 10:54Yeah, that's so special. I I have a
- 10:56different teary-eyed story with horses,
- 10:58but I'll I'll tell I'll tell you the
- 10:59short version. So, when I proposed to my
- 11:01wife, who I can't wait to introduce you
- 11:03to, when I proposed to her, which was 8
- 11:04years ago or something like that, when
- 11:06when I proposed to her, I organized a
- 11:09very, what I would consider like a very
- 11:11a very Hollywood proposal. It was It was
- 11:13too over the top, and I would do it
- 11:15totally different today with all
- 11:16everything I've learned. But, yeah, it
- 11:18happens. It happens. And so, we were
- 11:20walking to buy the Thames in London,
- 11:22which is where we both born and raised,
- 11:24and this a cappella group jumps out, and
- 11:25they're singing Bruno Mars, and then
- 11:27like they give her a bouquet of flowers,
- 11:29and then I get down on one knee, I
- 11:30propose, we have dinner by the river and
- 11:32then we walk around the corner and
- 11:35there's a horse-drawn carriage to take
- 11:37us around
- 11:38to take us around London. And so we're
- 11:40on this carriage, we have this
- 11:41beautiful, you know, path through London
- 11:43and then we get into the train to get
- 11:44back home to her parents to tell them
- 11:46and they already knew.
- 11:48She's got hives all over her face. And
- 11:51all over her arms.
- 11:52She's allergic to horses and I found out
- 11:55the day I proposed to her. I was like,
- 11:56all right, so that She was like She had
- 11:58tears and when we got back her parents
- 11:59were like, "What did you do At least you
- 12:00got to enjoy the moment. At least you
- 12:02got to enjoy the moment yeah, it wasn't
- 12:03so laughters. But but no, I I love
- 12:04horses. No, I love horses the same way
- 12:07you do. Like I I used to go to India a
- 12:08lot when I was a kid and that's where I
- 12:11first learned to be with horses and it I
- 12:14mean, they're so therapeutic.
- 12:15Absolutely, yeah.
- 12:17there's equine therapy. It's the best.
- 12:19Exactly. Yeah, they make me they make me
- 12:22when I'm with her. I have a few, but I'm
- 12:25most mostly with one of my horses right
- 12:27now because I'm Her name's Dilantra. I
- 12:29didn't name her. She came with her name.
- 12:31But I call her Dylan or Dill.
- 12:33I love her so much, but when I'm with
- 12:35her I I genuinely I speak of like I I
- 12:38spoke about how I've just loved horses
- 12:39my whole life. I I feel like a kid
- 12:41around her. Like I feel like my
- 12:4312-year-old self that would get up every
- 12:45morning at throughout the entire summer
- 12:47at 8:00 a.m. to go just be at my
- 12:50trainer's facility and I would stay
- 12:51there from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. I'd
- 12:53ride all her horses, I'd groom all her
- 12:55horses, I would just sit in the stalls
- 12:57with all the horses. Like it just
- 12:58anytime I'm with her, I just have that
- 13:00sense of like being a child again and
- 13:02it's a really really good feeling. Yeah,
- 13:03animals have that special ability, don't
- 13:06they? Like whichever animal you're
- 13:07attracted to and I I've I never thought
- 13:10I would, but when I lived as a monk, the
- 13:12animal that's revered in India is cows.
- 13:15And you would never think of cows being
- 13:18like majestic or you know, in that way,
- 13:20especially when you're not in India, but
- 13:21the cows in India have these like
- 13:22lotus-like eyes. Like their eyes are
- 13:24just like absolutely stunning, yeah. And
- 13:27they're so special and they're such
- 13:28gentle animals. And recently Roddy and I
- 13:31went trekking with gorillas in Rwanda.
- 13:34And gorillas are the We have to go. I
- 13:36That sounds unreal.
- 13:38It was unbelievable and they're the
- 13:40animal that's revered in Rwanda. So,
- 13:42whenever they have a new gorilla that's
- 13:44born, they have a naming ceremony with
- 13:46the community and it's
- 13:47It's so beautiful, but And then I heard
- 13:49somewhere that you your first job was
- 13:51you were a dog walker.
- 13:52Yeah. And so I was thinking like, do you
- 13:54have any lessons or anything you learned
- 13:56by being a dog walker? I think first
- 13:58jobs are so interesting.
- 13:59Yeah. No, I mean, I was always a super
- 14:03disciplined child. Like meaning to my
- 14:05Like I just loved I would put myself to
- 14:07bed at 7:00 p.m. Be like my mom would be
- 14:10like playing with me and my little
- 14:11sister and be like, "Mom, it's 7:00. I
- 14:13got to go to sleep. Like it's time for
- 14:14my bedtime." She'd be like, "Are you
- 14:15okay?" And so, I was always that kid and
- 14:19so I I think I just was always really
- 14:20eager to like work. I don't know why. I
- 14:23just like wanted to always have
- 14:24something to do, something that I felt
- 14:26passionate about, that I really enjoyed.
- 14:28And so, yeah, when I was young, I put
- 14:30some flyers around our community and
- 14:32said I would walk dogs and I ended up
- 14:33getting people that would get Let me
- 14:36have their dog for a few hours and take
- 14:37it for a walk. So, I loved animals and I
- 14:40liked having something to do. So, I
- 14:42spent I was a kid that liked to be by
- 14:44myself with animals. So, like I think
- 14:47that that was a cool very fitting thing
- 14:50for me cuz I got to be by myself
- 14:51walking, but then also experience all
- 14:53these little dogs with their owners.
- 14:55Yeah. Yeah, I wish I did that. I used to
- 14:56deliver newspapers. So, that was my
- 14:58first job and it's not as glamorous in
- 15:00London because it's raining. Was that
- 15:02what you were desiring or was that more
- 15:04just like
- 15:05old and wanted to make some money. You
- 15:06were just like, "I need a I was like, "I
- 15:07need to make some money." Yeah. And so,
- 15:09I was like, "All right, I'm going to
- 15:10start doing this." And you don't get to,
- 15:11you know, you'd see it in the movies
- 15:13where the paperboy just like chucks the
- 15:15paper at the door, but I had to actually
- 15:17go and put it inside. So, my only
- 15:18interaction with dogs is they were on
- 15:20the inside grabbing the paper.
- 15:22And so, yeah.
- 15:23at you.
- 15:23Yeah, they're barking and stuff, but I
- 15:26always love knowing about people's first
- 15:27jobs and and how things started for them
- 15:29because of, you know, obviously where
- 15:30you are today, but
- 15:32what do you think it was in those early
- 15:34years where you just said you were very
- 15:36disciplined? Like it sounds like you
- 15:38were you were aware of certain habits
- 15:40that you built then. What were some of
- 15:41the things that you feel confident about
- 15:43or
- 15:44how did how did you look for validation
- 15:46in those early years and where did it
- 15:47come from for you? I mean, it's
- 15:49interesting. So, Kylie, my little
- 15:51sister, she was always the social
- 15:53butterfly. I was always I just liked
- 15:56being to myself. I don't know if that's
- 15:58the Scorpio in me, so it just came
- 16:00naturally or whatever. I had a I had a
- 16:02group of friends who I loved, but I just
- 16:05I I like can vividly remember just on
- 16:07the weekends not running to go be with
- 16:09my friends all the time. During the
- 16:10summer, I was with them, but on the
- 16:11weekends in between school, I would I
- 16:14was really just by myself. I would love
- 16:16to like hang out in my room. I like was
- 16:19kind of a nerd. I loved video games and
- 16:21like sitting on the computer and playing
- 16:22Sims all day. Like I just kind of liked
- 16:25being to myself. And then all day long
- 16:27during the summer was with my horses.
- 16:28And
- 16:29yeah, I don't know. I just it just
- 16:31brought me joy. I don't think I have
- 16:33like
- 16:34a you know, a super long explanation for
- 16:37that. It was so simple for me as a kid.
- 16:39Like it was just as simple as that made
- 16:41me happy. And that's just what I wanted.
- 16:43And it explains, I guess, a lot of me
- 16:46now. Um I went through like a phase
- 16:49where I felt like I had to be around
- 16:50people. I think I live a very social
- 16:52life and my job is very social. So, I
- 16:56was, you know, kind of conditioned to
- 16:58want to be around people a lot. And then
- 17:01as, you know, the pandemic came around,
- 17:03you're not around as many people
- 17:05anymore. And now I'm just re-enjoying
- 17:06being by myself, which is really cool.
- 17:09Yeah. And um I had the most I had the
- 17:11best day on Sunday all by myself. I got
- 17:13up. I went and rode my horses. I like um
- 17:17took my niece to ride her pony.
- 17:20Just me and her. It was so nice. Brought
- 17:22her back home, went to my house, got in
- 17:24my cold plunge, went in my pool, laid
- 17:25out, journaled. Like, I was having the
- 17:28best day and I was just pretty much all
- 17:29by myself. So, I I enjoyed it so much.
- 17:32that. I'm sure that's so refreshing for
- 17:33people to hear, too, because I feel like
- 17:35people may, from the outside, perceive a
- 17:37life, which obviously, like you said,
- 17:38for work, it's busy and it's social. And
- 17:40of course, you have wonderful friends,
- 17:42but to know that you can feel
- 17:43comfortable in your own company, and
- 17:45that's been a habit that you've
- 17:46developed over time.
- 17:47I crave simple things. Like, I I love my
- 17:50life and I love my job and I I feel so
- 17:54fortunate that I have been placed here,
- 17:57that for some reason, I was given this
- 17:58life. Like, I feel immensely grateful
- 18:02for that. And I have had so much fun.
- 18:04And I like think back on just the
- 18:05experience that I've had the experiences
- 18:07that I've had this far. And it's like
- 18:09it's like a shocking to me. I'm like,
- 18:11this is so freaking cool that I live
- 18:13this life. But at the end of the day,
- 18:15like when I am home and when I'm alone,
- 18:16like I crave the simple things. I love a
- 18:18simple day. I love just like a simple
- 18:21routine and being to myself and being
- 18:24around the people that I love, my small
- 18:26core crew. So. Yeah. That's beautiful.
- 18:28Yeah, I mean, that's I think that's what
- 18:29we're all striving for is that passion
- 18:31in our careers and our work and then the
- 18:34simplicity at home. What would you say I
- 18:36I was thinking about this and I've
- 18:37watched so many of your interviews and
- 18:39and read so much, too, but what would
- 18:41you say for you has been one of your
- 18:43like proudest moments or greatest
- 18:45achievements or something that you
- 18:46really feel like, and internally I mean,
- 18:48like for for the basis of our
- 18:49conversation, like something that really
- 18:51brings you joy internally when you think
- 18:53about it or when you when you had it?
- 18:55Like I said, I look back and the things
- 18:58that I've accomplished, just even my
- 19:00job. Like, I think I really, at one
- 19:03point, when I was younger, decided I
- 19:06want to be a model and this is what I
- 19:07want to do. And the fact that I
- 19:09executed, cuz we talk about that
- 19:10determination, like I really was I was
- 19:1314 years old when I kind of made that
- 19:15decision and was like, this is what I
- 19:17want to do and I went to my mom and I
- 19:18was like, please help me do this. And
- 19:21I didn't stop until I was 24
- 19:25that I was like, okay, I think I need to
- 19:27like take it back a notch, which we can
- 19:29also get into cuz that's a very
- 19:30Yeah. kind of dramatic story, but like I
- 19:34I just knew and I think I'm proud of
- 19:36myself for being that kid and being
- 19:39determined to do that and then executing
- 19:41and doing it to the to the level that I
- 19:43had done it and that I I guess I still
- 19:45do. But I I also am proud of
- 19:49I think more so the self-work that I've
- 19:52done within that process cuz there was a
- 19:55long period of time, I'd say the core
- 19:58five years of it that I was extremely
- 20:01overworked,
- 20:02not my happiest, not because I wasn't
- 20:05doing what I loved, but just because I
- 20:07was overwhelmed and I was I felt like I
- 20:10was saying yes to everything cuz I felt
- 20:12really, really grateful and really
- 20:13honored to be in the position that I was
- 20:15in, so I was always saying yes.
- 20:18And it just took a lot out of me to the
- 20:20point where
- 20:21I just wasn't happy anymore. And so I
- 20:24had to set those boundaries for myself
- 20:26when I was about 23, 24. I'd say like
- 20:29what, a year before the pandemic, so
- 20:30yeah, I was probably 23. I really set
- 20:33boundaries for myself and I was like, I
- 20:35want to continue to do this cuz this is
- 20:36what I love,
- 20:37but I need to start saying no when I can
- 20:41and prioritizing
- 20:43me and prioritizing like,
- 20:46you know, my happiness and my
- 20:48well-being. Yeah. And it has done
- 20:50wonders for me. Like I feel like I can
- 20:53show up better for myself and I can show
- 20:56up a better person for the people that
- 20:58get to be around me that day and you
- 21:00know, that I work with on that day, so
- 21:02Yeah.
- 21:03Yeah. So
- 21:04what I'm proud of. Sorry I didn't give
- 21:06you a long answer to your question.
- 21:09I won't say hoping for that because I
- 21:11I'm always open to wherever anyone's
- 21:13life experience goes, but there's a part
- 21:14of me that loves hearing that. Like, I
- 21:16really appreciate hearing that because
- 21:18when you've achieved so many incredible
- 21:19things in your career, which you have,
- 21:21to then say, "Well, this is the part,
- 21:22like knowing how to navigate it or
- 21:24making the right choices at the right
- 21:26time." Healthy balance.
- 21:28balance, yeah.
- 21:29important. It's important for all of us.
- 21:31Yeah. Like, we have to This is what
- 21:33we're prioritizing, you know? Yeah. How
- 21:35did you find the courage to do that at
- 21:37the 23 mark as you're saying? You're in
- 21:40a competitive industry. As you said, it
- 21:42was overworking. It's fast-paced. I'm
- 21:45guessing there's comparison in that
- 21:47industry. There's competition in that
- 21:48industry. It's not an easy space to be.
- 21:51You're Of course. you know, you're in
- 21:52the top 0.01% in your industry. So, it's
- 21:55it's hard.
- 21:57And the reason I asked this is because I
- 21:58work with so many people in this space,
- 22:00and to have the courage to say, "No, I
- 22:03know that if I saw this out, then all of
- 22:06this is going to be just fine." That
- 22:08actually takes more courage than we
- 22:10recognize. We realize that when you have
- 22:12nothing, then there's nothing to lose.
- 22:14You can actually have a lot of courage.
- 22:15But when you have everything and there's
- 22:16everything to lose, and a lot of the
- 22:18time, at least what I've heard in in
- 22:20town is,
- 22:21you know, older managers and agents, and
- 22:23I'm not saying you have any of this, but
- 22:24people that I know will be told, "Well,
- 22:26hey, if you don't do this, like, you'll
- 22:27be forgotten next year or, you know,
- 22:29your your career's only going to last
- 22:30another 6 months." How did you have that
- 22:32courage to say, "No, no, no, I need to
- 22:34do this"? Like, where did that come
- 22:35from? And I think that it's like, I've
- 22:37never thought about it that way, to be
- 22:39completely honest with you. I just knew
- 22:42that if I had gone any further, that I
- 22:44was going to lose myself. I was at that
- 22:47very I was on the teeter-totter edge of
- 22:51that point where
- 22:53had I gone any further, I was probably
- 22:56not going to be great. It was so
- 22:58important to me
- 23:00to feel good that I just knew that it
- 23:03was something that I had to do, and I
- 23:05can't say like
- 23:07you're absolutely right. Like there were
- 23:10so many people around me that had told
- 23:13me not to say no, and told or told me
- 23:16yeah, told me not to say no, told me not
- 23:18to stop. I fought my way out of it a
- 23:20little bit because there were people
- 23:22that had worked for me that, you know,
- 23:24didn't
- 23:25want me to stop cuz it might have
- 23:26benefited them.
- 23:27Of course.
- 23:28But I got to that point and I just knew
- 23:30I had to do it and I I just I don't
- 23:32know. I don't know how to explain it, I
- 23:34guess.
- 23:34Yeah. It was just such an unbelievable
- 23:36sensation that I had where I knew that
- 23:39if I do this, I'm going to be better for
- 23:41everyone, and I'm going to be better for
- 23:42myself, which means I'm going to be
- 23:43better for the people around me. And I
- 23:45have to do this. And so, it wasn't
- 23:48really
- 23:49I want to be able to live
- 23:51with happiness, God forbid any of this
- 23:54ever went away. And I think that that
- 23:57was a big moment for me of being like,
- 23:59I'm going to be okay Mhm.
- 24:01if I don't get this job tomorrow. And
- 24:02I'm going to be okay if I don't get that
- 24:05job in a month. If I have to take this
- 24:06time to do whatever, things will come,
- 24:08everything's going to work out the way
- 24:10it's supposed to, and I had to trust
- 24:11that. So.
- 24:12Yeah. Well, to me from the outside and
- 24:14it's it's beautiful that you didn't see
- 24:15it in yourself because that almost makes
- 24:17it even more wonderful. But the idea
- 24:19that to me from the outside, that's a
- 24:20lot of courage. Yeah. Thank you.
- 24:21it takes a lot of courage, it takes a
- 24:23lot of vulnerability and openness, and
- 24:25and it takes courage at every level,
- 24:27whether someone's thinking about
- 24:29quitting their job to do something they
- 24:30love, or whether someone's trying to
- 24:32relocate their family and doesn't know
- 24:34how, or whether someone like you is
- 24:36feeling success but then going, "Well,
- 24:37wait a minute." And I think in the past
- 24:39few years we've seen athletes and
- 24:41musicians and actors and people in all
- 24:43creative industries step back and say,
- 24:45"Well, I need to put me first."
- 24:46Yeah. And I think that that's empowering
- 24:49Mhm. because I think we hear about
- 24:50burnout in work culture and corporate
- 24:53culture so often.
- 24:55So what what what was it that you
- 24:57started to do with that new found time
- 24:59at that time? Like where was Is that
- 25:01where the curio- Was the curiosity
- 25:02always there and now you could actually
- 25:04follow it?
- 25:05It was. It was It was always there and I
- 25:08had had a lot of people coming to me
- 25:10telling me about meditation and how it
- 25:12changed their life and therapy and so
- 25:15many different things and I was a bit
- 25:18overwhelmed cuz I was like, "Oh my god,
- 25:19what if this is going to suit me?" I
- 25:21think it's a very personal experience. I
- 25:23think everybody has a very different
- 25:25version of all of that stuff and so it
- 25:28was a little overwhelming. So, I think I
- 25:29really just took the time to be off for
- 25:31a second. It was even the little things.
- 25:33It was like being able to go to my
- 25:35friend's birthday party which I wouldn't
- 25:36have been able to go to before cuz I was
- 25:39working a lot.
- 25:39I I love hearing that because I think it
- 25:41is those simple things like
- 25:43you know, giving yourself that space
- 25:45whatever it is that you needed to do
- 25:47when you needed it and and like you
- 25:49said, sometimes it's like that's when
- 25:51all the subscribe buttons come up in
- 25:52front of you and it's like, "Try this
- 25:53and try this." And it's like, "Well, no,
- 25:54no, no, let me just take my time." It
- 25:57was also now that I think about it,
- 25:5923, I'm 26, I've had my horse for So,
- 26:03around that time is when I bought the
- 26:06horse that I have now
- 26:08who is my like I I jump her and I like
- 26:11how I I have a two other horses but
- 26:13they're like retired so I don't really
- 26:15ride them the same way I ride her. So,
- 26:17yeah, I guess it was around that time
- 26:18too that I was like, "I'm going to do
- 26:20this cuz I love this." And like I want
- 26:22to get back into it and this is what
- 26:23I've loved my whole life. So, so it was
- 26:25around that time that I feel like all of
- 26:27that started happening and I bought my
- 26:28horse and I like started taking more
- 26:30time for things that made me really
- 26:32happy. Yeah, what what I what I'm
- 26:34noticing in you and observing or at
- 26:36least from just these
- 26:38No, in a good way. In a good way. It's
- 26:40all good.
- 26:41I was just saying it's like it feels
- 26:42like no matter what's happening in your
- 26:44orbit, there's this pillar of belief
- 26:46that
- 26:47it's important to be happy. Like it you
- 26:50know, that's like this core center
- 26:51belief in your life where it's something
- 26:52that's important to be happy. It's
- 26:53important to be happy. It's
- 26:55that has to be the goal. For sure. And
- 26:58you know, it's not always easy. We live
- 27:03in such an interesting industry and in
- 27:06such an interesting time with social
- 27:08media that it can be very hard
- 27:11sometimes.
- 27:12You can fall victim to so many things
- 27:15that
- 27:16don't serve you and that don't make you
- 27:18happy. If your happiness depends on the
- 27:22actions of others,
- 27:24you know, you're at mercy of things that
- 27:26you can't control. Mhm. And that's never
- 27:29where I want to be. So I I always want
- 27:31to live in like
- 27:33me and my therapist talk about like my
- 27:34higher goddess, my higher self. Like I
- 27:37always want to live there knowing that
- 27:40you know, when I'm there, you can't take
- 27:42that away from me. Yeah. That That's
- 27:44mine and no matter what you can disagree
- 27:46with me, you can agree with me. That's
- 27:48not going my I'm not changing. I'm not
- 27:50shifting. I'm here. I'm in my higher
- 27:52goddess. So I kind of
- 27:55I always live by like
- 27:57keep holding my happiness and not
- 27:59letting anyone else affect it. And
- 28:01though I fall victim to it at times,
- 28:03yeah. we as we all probably do,
- 28:05Absolutely. I um I strive every day to
- 28:07live in that place. So What are What are
- 28:09some of the qualities of your higher
- 28:11goddess or that that kind of uh avatar
- 28:14like
- 28:14She's awesome.
- 28:16Like I said, I don't love a pity party.
- 28:18I also like, you know, sometimes it
- 28:20feels weird to like say good things
- 28:22about yourself, but I've also learned a
- 28:24lot about talking to myself and a lot
- 28:26about looking in the mirror and being
- 28:27like, "You're great. You're gorgeous.
- 28:30You're amazing. You're loyal. You're
- 28:32positive. You're so many Like I love
- 28:35words of affirmation. I love just
- 28:37sitting there and reassuring myself of
- 28:39who I am because that's another thing
- 28:43for me. You know, there's
- 28:45so many false narratives about me, about
- 28:47all of us, I'm sure. Like, so many
- 28:50people think they have you figured out
- 28:52when they don't even know the half of
- 28:54it. So, sitting there and being like,
- 28:57you know, you get frustrated sometimes.
- 28:58It could feel really unfair. You could
- 29:00be reading something that someone is
- 29:01saying about you or hearing something
- 29:03that someone's saying about you and
- 29:04being like, that is so unfair cuz that's
- 29:06not who I am. And that really gets to me
- 29:09sometimes and that really sucks.
- 29:11But then looking at myself in the mirror
- 29:13and being like, but I know who I am.
- 29:15Mhm. And that's all Why does anything
- 29:16else matter? And my friends know who I
- 29:19am. And my family knows who I am. My dog
- 29:21knows who I am. My horse knows who I am.
- 29:23Like, why does any of everything else is
- 29:25just noise? I I do this exercise. I
- 29:28don't think I've shared this before, but
- 29:29I do this exercise with some of my
- 29:31clients where we'll go on a walk and
- 29:32we'll be on a hike wherever we are. And
- 29:35I'll ask them what they think a piece
- 29:38of, you know, maybe there's a little
- 29:40leaf or maybe there's some a flower or
- 29:42something that looks a little unique on
- 29:44the path. And I'll say, "What do you
- 29:45think that feels like? And what do you
- 29:48think it would feel like if you picked
- 29:49it up in your hand?"
- 29:51Mhm. And they'll be like, "Oh, it looks
- 29:52really rough and like it might scratch
- 29:54me and like it looks like a bit, you
- 29:56know, like uneven or whatever and looks
- 29:59kind of hard and strong." And then I'll
- 30:01ask them to pick it up. And nine times
- 30:03out of 10,
- 30:05it's completely different. Like, they'll
- 30:06pick it up and it'll just dissolve in
- 30:08their hands or they'll turn it over and
- 30:10the color's really soft. And sorry, the
- 30:12shape the shape's really soft and the
- 30:14color's totally different on the other
- 30:15side. And I do that exercise to help us
- 30:18realize just how multifaceted humans
- 30:20are. Like, today I've got to meet you
- 30:21and and obviously we're spending a lot
- 30:23of deep, intimate, vulnerable time
- 30:24together. So, you learn faster about
- 30:26someone, but if someone only follows
- 30:28someone on social media or only sees
- 30:30someone at an event or only sees one
- 30:32interview, it's so easy to create such a
- 30:35singular view of someone.
- 30:36Right. And I think and I want to say
- 30:39this because I really think we all feel
- 30:40it. I don't think anyone wants to be
- 30:42seen Mhm. in a singular way. Mhm. If you
- 30:46had to choose one word that had to be
- 30:48you for the rest of your life, I don't
- 30:50think anyone wants that. I think we all
- 30:52know that we're messy and complex and
- 30:55and different.
- 30:56Of course.
- 30:57But we like to put someone else in a
- 30:59box, whoever that may be,
- 31:00Mhm.
- 31:01because it's easier then to live life
- 31:03and say, "Okay, well, that's person's A,
- 31:05B." Right.
- 31:06You know, so there's this beautiful
- 31:08piece of wisdom that I always share from
- 31:10Charles Horton Cooley, and he wrote this
- 31:12in 1890, I think it was, which just
- 31:15shows how true this has been for such a
- 31:17long time, and obviously long before
- 31:19that as well.
- 31:20And he said, "The challenge today is I'm
- 31:23not what I think I am. I'm not what you
- 31:25think I am. I am what I think you think
- 31:29I am."
- 31:30And we'll let that blow everyone's mind
- 31:32for I it gives me chills every time I
- 31:33say it.
- 31:34He uh Charles Horton Cooley said, "The
- 31:36challenge today is I'm not what I think
- 31:38I am. I'm not what you think I am.
- 31:41I am what I think you think I am." And
- 31:45what he's trying to say is that we live
- 31:46in a perception of a perception of
- 31:49ourselves. So, if I think you think I'm
- 31:51smart, then I allow myself to feel
- 31:54smart.
- 31:54Right. It's like we need that
- 31:56validation.
- 31:57Or if I think you think I'm not smart,
- 32:01then I feel hurt.
- 32:02Yeah. And and the challenge is I don't
- 32:04know what you're thinking at all, or
- 32:05especially outside in the world. And so
- 32:07I find that what you're saying around
- 32:09like, "Well, what do I think about
- 32:09myself?"
- 32:10Mhm. Like, how do I feel about myself?
- 32:12How do the people that actually know me
- 32:13Mhm. feel about me? I think that's
- 32:15really empowering. I wanted to ask you
- 32:17because I feel like from from what I've
- 32:19seen and from what I've heard, you have
- 32:20you have great friendships. You have a
- 32:21great relationship with your families,
- 32:23you said. Like, what do you think have
- 32:24been really great habits or traits in
- 32:28relationships that have helped you build
- 32:29up good friendships and and family
- 32:31relations? Because I think for so many
- 32:32people, sometimes their friendships and
- 32:35their family can often be the most
- 32:36difficult part. but
- 32:38I feel like the way you communicate or
- 32:39the way you're talking about it, I'm
- 32:40like, "Okay, there's some really good
- 32:41habits in place here." Have there been
- 32:43any principles or rules that you've
- 32:45learned along the way that have been
- 32:47helpful? I mean, of course, honesty.
- 32:49Um I'm a big person on like keeping a
- 32:52really honest, healthy, communicative
- 32:55relationship. Um
- 32:57but I also think like I find it really
- 33:00important to have
- 33:02not feel like you're on top of each
- 33:03other when you have your family around
- 33:05or your friends around. It's okay to
- 33:07like sometimes even if you're at like a
- 33:09family dinner running to the bathroom
- 33:11and just be like, "Let me just take a
- 33:11couple breaths
- 33:13because this is getting overwhelming."
- 33:14Do you know what I mean? So, I just love
- 33:16to like
- 33:17take a second. My feelings are valid.
- 33:20Like sometimes my family's a lot, which
- 33:22I bet everyone already knows. So, just
- 33:24everyone's families are have a sense of
- 33:26crazy to them. But But I think that I
- 33:29can get really overwhelmed really
- 33:30easily. I am prone to just, you know,
- 33:34a good amount of anxiety and just being
- 33:36extremely overwhelmed and kind of taking
- 33:38everything too seriously sometimes. So,
- 33:40I like to just step away sometimes and
- 33:41just be like, "This is okay. I'm allowed
- 33:44to feel this way. It's valid. I'm just
- 33:45going to take a deep breath and I'm not
- 33:46going to react and then I'm going to go
- 33:47back out there and I'm going to be
- 33:48fine." That's a great idea.
- 33:51I love that. I love how easy it is. You
- 33:52don't need to No one needs to learn a
- 33:54new meditation practice. So, a new
- 33:56thing. That's That's so accessible.
- 33:58Yeah, it's as simple as that. Yeah.
- 34:00I you know, one of the things that, you
- 34:03know, when it which which really touched
- 34:04my heart when I saw this because I think
- 34:06when
- 34:07things happen in culture and and
- 34:08everyone talks about it, but but
- 34:10sometimes you're like, "Okay, well, I
- 34:11can tell that there's a real connection
- 34:12here." Like when when you lost Virgil.
- 34:14Mhm. Right? Like that when I when I saw
- 34:16your message and what you spoke about
- 34:18it, I was like, "Wow, this is this is
- 34:20someone who had a really deep connection
- 34:21with this individual." And going through
- 34:22grief is really, really tough. Like, you
- 34:25know, people who lose and I lost uh two
- 34:27really close people to me during the
- 34:28pandemic. I'm sorry. One was Thank you.
- 34:31One was One was my spiritual teacher
- 34:33since I was 12 years old and he died of
- 34:36stage four brain cancer and I hadn't
- 34:37seen him
- 34:39during the pandemic. I couldn't go back
- 34:40for his because that was still when it
- 34:41was like tight lockdown. So, I couldn't
- 34:43go back for his funeral.
- 34:45And, you know, he'd been the person
- 34:47who'd been such a key piece of my life.
- 34:49And then the other person, pretty much
- 34:51in the same year, was my best friend as
- 34:55a monk. So, he was still a monk. And and
- 34:57he having to get cancer and he passed
- 34:59away during the pandemic. I couldn't see
- 35:00him either. And he was my age and so to
- 35:02lose someone that was, you know, he was
- 35:04still there. And so, yeah, and so and so
- 35:06when I saw your,
- 35:08you know, your wonderful tribute to
- 35:10Virgil as well, I was like, you know,
- 35:12how how how do you process something
- 35:14like that when, you know, it's not only
- 35:16industry friends but genuine friendship
- 35:18beyond that and just
- 35:20Well, my first thought here is, why is
- 35:22it always the best people? Like, why is
- 35:24it always these people that are just
- 35:26such balls of light in everyone's life.
- 35:29It's like so, you just think about it
- 35:31and you're like, this is so unfair and
- 35:33you're going through every emotion and
- 35:36to be honest, it was really shocking cuz
- 35:39not everyone knew what he was
- 35:42going through and suffering from. So, it
- 35:44was really shocking.
- 35:46I'll never forget the day I found out
- 35:48and
- 35:50it just absolutely obviously breaks your
- 35:53heart and
- 35:56you can't help but be like, oh my god,
- 35:58did I did I ever say enough? Did I ever
- 36:01tell him enough? It's really interesting
- 36:04to share that feeling with so many
- 36:06people. It feels good in a way and
- 36:09you're just like, everyone it makes you
- 36:11feel so human and you're sharing this
- 36:13emotion with people that knew him,
- 36:15people that didn't know him, people that
- 36:17just loved him from afar and it's just a
- 36:20really
- 36:22beautiful and incredible thing to a
- 36:24certain degree but then also just
- 36:26obviously the most
- 36:28devastating thing. It hits so hard when
- 36:31so many people are talking about it and
- 36:33so many people are affected by it. So,
- 36:35it was definitely, um,
- 36:37a really shocking,
- 36:39really sad time. Yeah.
- 36:41It was, yeah. Yeah, and those and and
- 36:44it's really interesting what you said
- 36:45there is like why and and I had that
- 36:46with my spiritual teacher for sure. I
- 36:47was just like
- 36:49like he was, you know, and and what's
- 36:52really powerful about what I could at
- 36:55least remember from him at the time was
- 36:56that even though he had stage four brain
- 36:58cancer, which means he'd lost his
- 37:00short-term memory and a lot of his
- 37:02long-term memory was impaired, if you
- 37:04ever met him, he would just thank you
- 37:07for your service to God. Like he would
- 37:08just say, "Thank you for everything
- 37:10you're doing for other people." And he
- 37:11would just be grateful.
- 37:13And I was just like, "How
- 37:14how V was, too. He was the most
- 37:17positive,
- 37:19lived life, like, appreciative, wanted
- 37:23to say yes to everything, wanted to just
- 37:26be there for everyone. You could
- 37:29literally ask him to design a pencil for
- 37:31you and he would be like, "Oh, it'll be
- 37:32done tomorrow. What do you need What
- 37:34else do you need?" Like, he just had so
- 37:37much to give and he gave it. And that
- 37:40wasn't That was pre-his diagnosis. That
- 37:43was like That was just who Virgil was.
- 37:46And so, to then find out what he found
- 37:49out at a certain point in his life and
- 37:50still be that person and still like,
- 37:52"I'm going to show up for everyone." And
- 37:54like,
- 37:55"My time here is so special to all these
- 37:57other people and I'm going to just like
- 37:59be here to make them feel amazing." It's
- 38:02just like unreal. Like it makes you just
- 38:05feel like, "What?" Yeah. Like, how how?
- 38:08You're How could you be that incredible
- 38:10and giving? Like that is so crazy. There
- 38:12wasn't a selfish bone in that man's
- 38:14body. Like he was just the best. Yeah,
- 38:16and and But I'm sorry to hear about your
- 38:18Oh, no, no. I I think it's it's actually
- 38:20nice speaking about people that we both
- 38:22love in in a sim- in a in a similar way
- 38:24even though we're in such different
- 38:25places in life doing very different
- 38:27things. But they to talk about someone's
- 38:30and I think that's a big part of it for
- 38:31me at least with grief that I feel like
- 38:33when I talk about the beautiful
- 38:34qualities of the people that I lost, it
- 38:38gives me so much confidence that
- 38:41they want me to live it and they want me
- 38:43to try and embody it and that how
- 38:45fortunate we are to have experienced
- 38:47that type of humanity.
- 38:49Yeah. Like you know too
- 38:50And those are my thoughts of him. Like I
- 38:52think all we ever really want as human
- 38:54beings is to be you know when we do
- 38:56leave this earth we want to be
- 38:57remembered so beautifully and positive-
- 39:00positively. I know at least I do of
- 39:02course but like you just want you of
- 39:05course want to make people feel
- 39:06something and he made so many people
- 39:09feel something and for that it is so
- 39:11special. Like what do they say that we
- 39:13you know we have our purpose here and I
- 39:15know that he fulfilled a purpose here
- 39:17that he was supposed to fulfill and I
- 39:19think that that's I think about it
- 39:22beautifully. Like I obviously it's a
- 39:24very very sad situation and it and it
- 39:27breaks my heart but I have nothing but
- 39:30beautiful thoughts of him and I think
- 39:32that's really cool and really special.
- 39:34So Yeah. You thank you for sharing that
- 39:36too and I I I have to ask you because
- 39:38yeah I just I feel I I love hearing
- 39:40amazing things about amazing people that
- 39:42you know because I think so many of the
- 39:44most incredible people I grew up reading
- 39:46about people that I never met and I
- 39:48spent a lot of my life studying books
- 39:50about people that I never met so Malcolm
- 39:51X and Martin Luther King and Einstein
- 39:54and people that I really see as people
- 39:56that have directed so much of my life
- 39:59from how they lived and I feel like he
- 40:02was potentially one of those people that
- 40:03I never met him but whenever I hear
- 40:05about him I'm just like oh this is
- 40:07someone that we could learn from.
- 40:09You spoke about purpose there. I was
- 40:11wondering how is your purpose changed?
- 40:12You had this very
- 40:14confident view of a I want to be a
- 40:16model, you know, you've you've
- 40:17superseded, exceeded, and continue to
- 40:19flourish in that world, and I and I
- 40:21always wish that you do. How has your
- 40:23purpose evolved as that time's gone on?
- 40:26I think I've learned a lot. I've learned
- 40:28a lot about myself, about what I want
- 40:31from my life, and which is kind of what
- 40:32we've been talking about, but um I'm
- 40:35actually really excited to get older and
- 40:38to learn so much more about not only
- 40:41myself, but like the journey and the
- 40:44path that I I guess want to take and
- 40:46want to be on. So, I'd say, you know, my
- 40:50purpose has evolved from obviously
- 40:53within business, doing what I want to
- 40:55do, and making sure I'm happy, and
- 40:58finding the thing that I love, and all
- 40:59those things, but I've kind of like I
- 41:02said, really tuned into me, and I think
- 41:05my purpose, at least at this very
- 41:06moment, and what I've kind of evolved
- 41:08into is
- 41:09is my higher goddess. Like, I am
- 41:11determined to tune into her at all
- 41:13times, but also
- 41:16as I get older, I have so much that I
- 41:18want to connect
- 41:22with other people, and with, you know,
- 41:24aka social media, and people that may
- 41:27not know me personally,
- 41:29and just, you know, the following. Like
- 41:30I said, I was given this life for some
- 41:33reason. For whatever reason I was placed
- 41:35here, and I do feel a purpose to
- 41:39share, and connect, and put a smile on
- 41:42people's faces, or make someone feel a
- 41:44positive feeling, and so I think that
- 41:47within me wanting to achieve me tuning
- 41:50into my higher goddess, I think that
- 41:51also entails me being a
- 41:54great version of myself for other people
- 41:56to then
- 41:58experience, and my tips, and my tools,
- 42:01and whatever I can share, whatever help
- 42:03I can give. I I really
- 42:05you know, as corny as it sounds, I want
- 42:07to spread love Like I want people to
- 42:09feel love. I That's really, I guess, the
- 42:12purpose. Yeah. That's That's beautiful.
- 42:14I mean, what more could you ask for?
- 42:15Yeah. Right.
- 42:16Yeah. And And And it is funny that so
- 42:18much of the stuff that is corny or, you
- 42:20know, whatever, that's the stuff that's
- 42:21true. Like, that's the stuff that It is.
- 42:24Like, there's also just We all just like
- 42:26live in such a It's an interesting time,
- 42:29obviously, and it can feel really
- 42:31negative. Yeah. And I tend to stay off
- 42:34of platforms like social media platforms
- 42:37because it's hard to look at sometimes,
- 42:39and it feels really negative. So, I feel
- 42:41like we all just need a little bit of a
- 42:42smile sometimes. I agree. I agree. I I
- 42:45post these uh
- 42:47videos every day, which are just these
- 42:49fun, silly things that happen in the
- 42:51world that my my team will find, I'll
- 42:53find, and I post them every day
- 42:54literally for that reason and that
- 42:56reason only because I'm like, I may or
- 42:58may say may or may not say something
- 43:00that makes someone smile. Right.
- 43:01But this definitely will. Like, this
- 43:03this without a doubt will bring some joy
- 43:05to someone's life. And if if this is the
- 43:07only joy that someone experienced, I
- 43:08want them to see good in the world
- 43:10Mhm. and believe that there's good in
- 43:11the world.
- 43:11That's one of my favorite things to see
- 43:13on um Tik Tok. When I sit in my bed at
- 43:15night and fall victim to Tik Tok, I love
- 43:17to see There's people that will post
- 43:19like um here's like five amazing facts
- 43:22that have happened in the world in the
- 43:24last couple weeks or whatever, and it'll
- 43:25be like the you know, pandas are not
- 43:28extinct anymore, and like the Great
- 43:30Barrier Reef is coming back, and stuff
- 43:32like that. And so, I'm like, that's so
- 43:33cool. That's what I want to hear.
- 43:35Exactly. And And, you know, if it was
- 43:37like it's going down, it's like it's
- 43:39going to get a lot of likes and hits,
- 43:40but if it's going up, it doesn't get the
- 43:42same attention. Yeah.
- 43:43do we like gravitate towards the
- 43:45negative so much? Like
- 43:47I know. very interesting.
- 43:49I I genuinely believe it's just a
- 43:51pattern. It's a pattern and a habit
- 43:53that's been adopted for so long.
- 43:55And we have to retrain ourselves.
- 43:58of it all and the whole thing, and we're
- 44:00like, that's going downhill. I need to
- 44:02see what's happening, and we just like
- 44:05we do need to retrain our brains. It's
- 44:07exactly what it is. Yeah, and it starts
- 44:09with what you said earlier. It starts
- 44:10with how we see ourselves.
- 44:11Mhm. It is all from that. If someone
- 44:13looks in the mirror, as you were saying
- 44:15earlier, or if someone just reflects on
- 44:17themselves, not in a physically, but
- 44:19just internally.
- 44:20Yeah.
- 44:22Most of us will spot all the negative
- 44:24things about ourself, and then we take
- 44:26that out into the world and spot all the
- 44:27negative things about everyone else. And
- 44:29then we take that out into social media
- 44:31and So, that just propels from
- 44:34if you ask
- 44:34a reflection of yourself.
- 44:36If we ask someone to sit down and write
- 44:37down, as you said, we feel uncomfortable
- 44:39taking a compliment, or we feel
- 44:41uncomfortable saying something Saying
- 44:42nice about ourselves, right?
- 44:43Exactly. And so, it all starts with our
- 44:45relationship with ourself. If we were
- 44:47able to find
- 44:48three good things about ourselves today,
- 44:51I promise you you're going to find three
- 44:52good things about the person sitting in
- 44:53front of you, and and that will Right,
- 44:55exactly.
- 44:56I do a lot of like inner inner child
- 44:59work with my um therapist, and there's
- 45:02actually a trend on TikTok that was
- 45:04going around, but um coincidentally
- 45:06enough, we ended up naturally speaking
- 45:07about it in my session, and it was like
- 45:09this trend on TikTok, I guess, that was
- 45:11like um
- 45:13like a girl being like, "Anytime you're
- 45:15being mean to yourself, just think this
- 45:17is who you're talking about." And then
- 45:19it flashes to like a photo of her as a
- 45:20kid. Yeah. And so, I me and my therapist
- 45:23were talking about something similar,
- 45:25and she was like, "Why don't you find
- 45:26like a photo of yourself and put it on
- 45:28your bathroom mirror, so that every
- 45:30morning, every night, every day when you
- 45:32walk into your bathroom mirror, you're
- 45:34looking at her and you're remembering
- 45:35that if there's anything negative that
- 45:36you're ever saying about yourself, if
- 45:38you're being mean to yourself, you're
- 45:39talking about her." And so, I did that,
- 45:42and I went into my um I went into like
- 45:44my memorabilia closet in my house, and I
- 45:46was looking through old like photo
- 45:48books, and I've seen these photo books
- 45:49my whole life. I've literally seen every
- 45:51photo that's been in here, and I like
- 45:53flipped to a page, and there was a photo
- 45:55I'd never seen of myself, ever. It was a
- 45:57Polaroid, so it was the original photo,
- 46:00and it was just me as a little girl with
- 46:02a bow in my hair and a dress on and I
- 46:04have like a little alien tattoo or
- 46:05something right here and I'm like have
- 46:07this big cheesy smile on my face and I
- 46:09was like that's the photo I'm putting on
- 46:11my thing. I can show you the photo
- 46:12later. I have a picture of it on my
- 46:13phone but um so I pasted it on my
- 46:16bathroom mirror and I talked to her and
- 46:19I'm always like if I'm ever looking in
- 46:20the mirror and being negative towards
- 46:22myself or anything I'm I always look
- 46:23right over to her and I'm like she's
- 46:25dope and I love her and so it's just
- 46:28another way of just self-love.
- 46:30that. That's such a great tool. That's
- 46:31such a great tool. My team found a kid
- 46:33picture of me and made an embarrassing
- 46:34version of that trend so I'll show you
- 46:36that too but Oh awesome. Okay, so you
- 46:38know it.
- 46:38Yeah, I know exactly I know exactly what
- 46:40you're talking about as well. Kedo, you
- 46:42saying earlier that you know you you
- 46:44wanted to come here and you you wanted
- 46:45to share and you manifested and you
- 46:47there were things you wanted to share.
- 46:48What is it that's on your heart that
- 46:50you've wanted to share that maybe we
- 46:51didn't go there today already or is
- 46:53there something on your mind and heart
- 46:54as an experience or a any anything that
- 46:57really drew you here and made this
- 46:59happen right? Like
- 47:01I want to honor that. I think we've
- 47:03obviously we've honestly touched a lot
- 47:05of what I felt like I would have loved
- 47:07to get off my heart. I don't know. I was
- 47:09really excited honestly to come here
- 47:12and share a little bit of me that I feel
- 47:17is very sometimes scary for me to share
- 47:20and um like I said I came in here and I
- 47:22was a little nervous cuz this is
- 47:23important to me and like this part of
- 47:27you know everyone's journey and and what
- 47:29we're talking about today is is so
- 47:31important. I really that was I guess my
- 47:33intention here today was to come in and
- 47:35share a little bit of me and maybe for
- 47:38whoever's watching they find some
- 47:40comfort in this or some joy from this or
- 47:43they understand me a little bit more.
- 47:45You know what I mean? So I think that
- 47:47we've hit a lot of really cool points
- 47:49and yeah, I mean I feel I feel really
- 47:51good. Good. I wanted to honor that. I I
- 47:54asked that because you know I think it I
- 47:56think when when you feel you're in that
- 47:58flow with someone and yeah, I I feel
- 48:00like, you know, we've learned so many
- 48:01new things about you today and there's
- 48:03so many moments where I'm like I just
- 48:04feel like you're so comfortable and and
- 48:07you've been so open with us, but I just
- 48:08wanted to honor that.
- 48:09Thank you. Thank you so much.
- 48:10that you've really felt heard and seen
- 48:12and I appreciate that. Thank you.
- 48:14I want to be mindful
- 48:15We all want to just be understood at the
- 48:17end of the day. So.
- 48:18I think the closer you get to people,
- 48:22humans, the closer you get to people of
- 48:25different backgrounds and different
- 48:26walks of life,
- 48:28the more you start to recognize how
- 48:30similar we all are.
- 48:31Yeah, exactly.
- 48:32how many challenges we all share,
- 48:35despite how much money someone has in
- 48:37the bank, despite how much fame someone
- 48:38has, despite how much followers someone
- 48:40has.
- 48:40Right.
- 48:40And what we find is that everyone feels
- 48:42their own guilt for where they are and
- 48:44everyone feels their own pressure for
- 48:46where they are and everyone feels their
- 48:48own challenge for where they are and you
- 48:49just start to realize that we all have
- 48:51the same emotions
- 48:52Exactly.
- 48:53in different mixes.
- 48:55Yeah, we're all just having a human
- 48:56experience.
- 48:57Exactly.
- 48:57We're all just going day by day.
- 49:00I think we all need to be a little bit
- 49:01kinder to each other and just take it
- 49:04easy on some people.
- 49:05Yeah, yeah. Cuz we are. We're all We all
- 49:07have our own struggles and um
- 49:10I don't know. I'm I'm an empath, so I
- 49:12like feel for things and I feel for
- 49:15people and
- 49:16um yeah. Yeah, and it starts with you.
- 49:19The the person Yeah, it starts with you.
- 49:21I thought you meant me. I was like, I
- 49:22don't know I don't know if I have that
- 49:23power.
- 49:25I was like, thank you. No, no, no, I
- 49:26meant I meant that to to our listeners
- 49:28like it starts with It starts with
- 49:29yourself. Like if if you can be kinder
- 49:32to yourself, chances are you're going to
- 49:33be I I found that the days I stopped
- 49:36judging myself, I stopped judging others
- 49:38because it it changed how I saw
- 49:41humanity. So.
- 49:42Uh Kendall, we end every On Purpose
- 49:44episode with a Final Five, which is a
- 49:46fast five round. I ask you a question
- 49:49and you answer it uh with a one word or
- 49:52one sentence maximum. So it's super
- 49:53quick and short.
- 49:54Okay. And we have to whisk you away cuz
- 49:56you need to you need to go to your next
- 49:57appointment.
- 49:58But okay, so the first question is
- 50:01what's something you're curious about
- 50:02right now? Ooh,
- 50:05um
- 50:05I am super curious about I was saying
- 50:10how I love um Michael Singer and I think
- 50:13what I really love I'm reading their
- 50:15surrender experiment right now and I'm
- 50:16only in the first couple chapters. So
- 50:18he's basically This is not a quick
- 50:19answer. I love it though. Please,
- 50:21please. He's basically at the first part
- 50:23of the book where he's talking about how
- 50:25he was curious about meditation and how
- 50:28he got into meditation and how he really
- 50:29just was like on a trip with his friends
- 50:31and his girlfriend in the woods and like
- 50:33sat in a corner and or sat at a tree and
- 50:35was like, I'm going to just really dive
- 50:36into this and see what happens. That's
- 50:38what I'm curious about right now. It's
- 50:39just actually like I meditate, I do a
- 50:42lot of breathing work, breathing
- 50:43exercises, and I just really want to tap
- 50:45in Yeah. like Michael Singer did. I love
- 50:48that. That's beautiful. That's a great
- 50:49answer. That's a great answer.
- 50:51Second question, if there's anything
- 50:52that you're working on personally right
- 50:54now, what are you working on on
- 50:55yourself? Is there any Yes. Um I'm
- 50:57working on
- 50:59I'm working on boundaries and I'm
- 51:01working on not mis-stresser. Like I can
- 51:05stress about things in my mind and I
- 51:08overthink and I just so I'm really
- 51:10working on like calming down and just
- 51:13letting things flow better and not being
- 51:16so controlling over things, especially
- 51:18that I can't control. Love it. Uh
- 51:20question number three, uh what's your
- 51:22favorite thing about founding 818? Ooh,
- 51:26um
- 51:26an entrepreneur, being a founder.
- 51:28Probably that. Like I I, you know, was a
- 51:31model and I worked for people a lot. I
- 51:34kind of love being my own boss and
- 51:36really being able to have my own
- 51:38creative
- 51:40a place where I can
- 51:41be creative and just really express my
- 51:44creativity and have so much fun doing
- 51:46all of that creative stuff and I've
- 51:48learned so much and learning about the
- 51:50culture and learning about the tequila
- 51:52and everything. Like I've just had the
- 51:53best time, so. Love that. Question
- 51:56number four, what's something you used
- 51:57to value but you don't value anymore?
- 52:00Validation. Mhm.
- 52:03Great answer.
- 52:04care anymore.
- 52:05Great answer. At least I'm telling
- 52:07myself that.
- 52:07Yes, yeah. Well, we have to make it a
- 52:09thought first. Right. No, but it it's
- 52:11true. Like I used to care so much more
- 52:13about validation. I really don't care
- 52:16anymore. I'm so happy for you to hear
- 52:17that.
- 52:18Uh fifth and final question, if you
- 52:20could create one law that everyone in
- 52:22the world had to follow, what would it
- 52:23be?
- 52:24Ooh, I would do like on like a Sunday
- 52:28you have to take half the day and like
- 52:30not look at your phone or something.
- 52:32I love that. That's a legit law. That's
- 52:34great. Right. That'd be kind of nice. Or
- 52:36the full day for being really crazy. I
- 52:39love that idea. I love that. Kendall
- 52:41Jenner everyone. This was amazing.
- 52:43Kendall, this Thank you.
- 52:44honestly
- 52:46and I'm excited to catch up afterwards,
- 52:47too. But this there was just so much
- 52:49flow and synergy in this whole thing
- 52:51happening and I couldn't thank you more
- 52:52for Thank you.
- 52:53doing this with me here on On Purpose.
- 52:56And I hope that this is the first of
- 52:58many times that we do this,
- 52:59That's not bad. beginning of a beautiful
- 53:01friendship
