  1. 0:01ABBY LEE MILLER: (VOICEOVER) Previously on "Dance Moms."
  2. 0:02[MUSIC PLAYING]
  3. 0:03We never discussed you forgetting your dance
  4. 0:04and running off the stage.
  5. 0:05When you least expect it, I'm going to throw you out there
  6. 0:07to do it.
  7. 0:08You are representing my entire career.
  8. 0:11The pressure is on you.
  9. 0:12They need to get over it.
  10. 0:13They've been jealous since Maddie from day one,
  11. 0:15and they still are.
  12. 0:16We wanted you to say to her, "why did you lie?"
  13. 0:18ABBY LEE MILLER: I keep telling you,
  14. 0:20it's tough getting to the top.
  15. 0:21It's even harder to stay there.
  16. 0:23So don't go out there and make any mistakes.
  17. 0:26[SLAMMING SOUND]
  18. 0:27(CRYING) I fell and my gut hurts.
  19. 0:30Me and Christi.
  20. 0:31(SCREAMING) Christi and I, you idiot!
  21. 0:33Christi and I!
  22. 0:34Coming up on "Dance Moms."
  23. 0:36Done.
  24. 0:37[BLEEP] you.
  25. 0:38I told you to do it for today.
  26. 0:41These mothers, the way they talk to you,
  27. 0:44I think it's awful.
  28. 0:45When those women say bad things about you, it hurts my heart.
  29. 0:49ANNOUNCER: Please welcome, Paige.
  30. 0:50Thank you.
  31. 0:51[CHEERING]
  32. 0:59[THEME MUSIC]
  33. 1:01(SINGING) Get up.
  34. 1:03Get on the floor.
  35. 1:05My world is with my girls living on the dance floor.
  36. 1:11[MUSIC PLAYING]
  37. 1:12[SIRENS]
  38. 1:15ABBY LEE MILLER: Girls, let's go!
  39. 1:16Hurry up.
  40. 1:19Girls, you walked into this room just as sluggish and boring
  41. 1:24as you walked out on that stage--
  42. 1:27zero energy.
  43. 1:29When my girls step on stage, they're slugs.
  44. 1:32They walk on stage.
  45. 1:34They do the routine.
  46. 1:35And as the 2 and 1/2 minutes go on,
  47. 1:38you can see their stamina decline.
  48. 1:40You have to come out there with energy.
  49. 1:42You can't get halfway through the number and then peter out.
  50. 1:45[MUSIC PLAYING]
  51. 1:49You're boring.
  52. 1:52So at the bottom of the pyramid, Maddie.
  53. 1:58I don't feel that Maddie deserve
  54. 1:59to be on the bottom of the pyramid
  55. 2:01because she rocked the group dance.
  56. 2:03I couldn't keep my eyes off of her.
  57. 2:04She came out with a bang, and she ended with a bang.
  58. 2:08But you know, everybody has to have a chance
  59. 2:10to be on the top of the pyramid.
  60. 2:11ABBY LEE MILLER: Maddie, you had an opportunity to dance.
  61. 2:14That didn't happen.
  62. 2:16They announced you, and you're bawling in the audience.
  63. 2:19That is unacceptable behavior.
  64. 2:21You're nine years old.
  65. 2:22When opportunity knocks, open the door.
  66. 2:25I was the very first one on the bottom of the pyramid.
  67. 2:28And I didn't want to let her down and I think I did.
  68. 2:33Next-- Mackenzie.
  69. 2:35Mackenzie, your routine was a winning number.
  70. 2:39You were 10.
  71. 2:40I don't do 10.
  72. 2:42Next-- Paige.
  73. 2:45You went out there.
  74. 2:46You looked great.
  75. 2:47You forgot a step.
  76. 2:48You can't forget a step.
  77. 2:50Brooke.
  78. 2:51Brooke, you're here because you give me this much.
  79. 2:55I don't see this effervescent personality.
  80. 2:58You see this fake little smile.
  81. 3:01You're concentrating so much to not screw up the dance.
  82. 3:04You can't have fun out there.
  83. 3:06Next, I have Nia.
  84. 3:08Nia, again, you're here because you showed responsibility.
  85. 3:13You quit fooling around.
  86. 3:14And I didn't have to hear your mouth all day long.
  87. 3:16Yes?
  88. 3:18And on top of the pyramid, again, is Chloe.
  89. 3:21Chloe, you did your solo.
  90. 3:22[MUSIC PLAYING]
  91. 3:23(SINGING) I'll keep on burning.
  92. 3:28But listen to me, I want more.
  93. 3:31This week, we are going to the Energy Dance Competition
  94. 3:35in Chicago.
  95. 3:37So we had a great competition the last time
  96. 3:40we were in Chicago, but we didn't win.
  97. 3:43I'd like to win.
  98. 3:45Nia, you and Mackenzie will be doing a duet.
  99. 3:49[CLAPPING]
  100. 3:51Paige, you have a solo.
  101. 3:54It's not a reward.
  102. 3:56You can screw your own dance by missing the choreography,
  103. 3:58but you can't mess up other people.
  104. 4:00Brooke, you also have a solo.
  105. 4:03Chloe, your solo is called "Unchained."
  106. 4:08But you know what the rule is--
  107. 4:10you're not in class, no solo.
  108. 4:13So we need to figure out what went on last night.
  109. 4:15I had three faculty members come and tell me, where's Chloe.
  110. 4:18Why isn't Chloe in class?
  111. 4:20She was at the doctor.
  112. 4:21ABBY LEE MILLER: But you need to have
  113. 4:22some type of common courtesy or at least say, hey, I'm taking
  114. 4:25my kid to the doctor.
  115. 4:26I'll bring a doctor's excuse.
  116. 4:28I have one.
  117. 4:29ABBY LEE MILLER: Good.
  118. 4:30Now girls, I look at this pyramid
  119. 4:32and I don't even want to do a group dance because you're
  120. 4:34lazy.
  121. 4:35You're lifeless.
  122. 4:36And you don't give me 150%.
  123. 4:38Now this routine is about zombies
  124. 4:42because that's what I think you are on stage.
  125. 4:44You get out there and you're like a zombie,
  126. 4:46you're like sleeping half the time.
  127. 4:49Holly, you're not working anymore.
  128. 4:51You've all the time in the world.
  129. 4:53So you are in charge of the costumes.
  130. 4:56For the group number?
  131. 4:57ABBY LEE MILLER: Yes.
  132. 4:58I am not looking forward to creating the costumes
  133. 5:00for this group number.
  134. 5:02Costuming is not my specialty.
  135. 5:04All right.
  136. 5:05Moms, you're dismissed.
  137. 5:06Holly, don't procrastinate.
  138. 5:08Everybody else spread apart.
  139. 5:10[MUSIC PLAYING]
  140. 5:18Give me a big grand plie and wiggle your head back.
  141. 5:22[MAKES NOISES]
  142. 5:23This week, the number called "Glam" is all about zombies.
  143. 5:27And after last week's travesty, I really
  144. 5:30need these girls to get it together.
  145. 5:31I need to win.
  146. 5:32The kids are busts on a statue.
  147. 5:35So it's like you have the long column,
  148. 5:37and then you have their head sitting on top of it.
  149. 5:39It's a very cool effect.
  150. 5:41I hope the judges get it.
  151. 5:43Make sure you hit that back attitude, Paige.
  152. 5:45[MUSIC PLAYING]
  153. 5:46(SINGING) Go, go, go, go.
  154. 5:47Go Nia.
  155. 5:49More, Paige.
  156. 5:50It's not little.
  157. 5:51It's big, Paige.
  158. 5:53I don't think it's fair that Maddie was last in the pyramid.
  159. 5:56I'm pissed at Abby that she told Maddie she wasn't doing a solo.
  160. 6:00And Maddie wasn't prepared.
  161. 6:02So Melissa, do you think that Maddie being in-- and Mackenzie
  162. 6:05being at the bottom of the pyramid is because of you?
  163. 6:10I mean, like, my kids are always on the bottom of the pyramid
  164. 6:13because of things I did.
  165. 6:14I know.
  166. 6:15And you know, you're not getting along with Abby
  167. 6:17the best right now.
  168. 6:18Do you think that's why she's at bottom of the pyramid?
  169. 6:20No.
  170. 6:21Everything's fine.
  171. 6:22I mean, it's never going to be what it was because she doesn't
  172. 6:25need me anymore.
  173. 6:26She has someone else to take care of all of her business.
  174. 6:28I'm not working at the front desk anymore actually for Abby
  175. 6:32because we did find someone to replace me.
  176. 6:34And I really don't have the time.
  177. 6:36I miss it terribly, and the people miss me.
  178. 6:40I get emails every day from people.
  179. 6:42But I just don't have the time.
  180. 6:43I don't think it has anything to do
  181. 6:45with me, to be honest with you. - See, I don't agree with that.
  182. 6:47I really don't.
  183. 6:48MELISSA: You don't?
  184. 6:49The reason she's at the bottom is because you didn't
  185. 6:51kiss her ass and do everything she wanted you to do last week.
  186. 6:54I'm getting so much slack from everybody that, you know,
  187. 6:57I always kiss your butt and everything.
  188. 6:58So what's the issue?
  189. 6:59[INTERPOSING VOICES]
  190. 7:00I think you need to confront her more.
  191. 7:02I think Melissa has retired from her duties
  192. 7:04at the front desk because frankly, she's
  193. 7:06made it quite clear that she doesn't need to work anymore.
  194. 7:09And I think that has caused a rift between her and Abby
  195. 7:11because Abby's used to Melissa being at her beck and call.
  196. 7:14Stand up for yourself.
  197. 7:16[MUSIC PLAYING]
  198. 7:21ABBY LEE MILLER: Stop.
  199. 7:22I gave that whole speech--
  200. 7:23big!
  201. 7:24Big!
  202. 7:25Paige is doing a solo this week, finally.
  203. 7:27She is doing "Tongue Twister."
  204. 7:29Now this is a number that she did a year ago.
  205. 7:32And we never actually finished it
  206. 7:35and she never did it on stage.
  207. 7:36Face!
  208. 7:38You have the face.
  209. 7:39Use it.
  210. 7:40This week, my solo has a little bit of everything--
  211. 7:43jazz, acro, gymnastics.
  212. 7:45I like this solo a lot.
  213. 7:46Right.
  214. 7:47Get over there in the corner.
  215. 7:48Remember, you either make a fool out of yourself or you win.
  216. 7:51The option is up to you.
  217. 7:53Go.
  218. 7:55Brooke, let's see it.
  219. 7:56[MUSIC PLAYING]
  220. 7:59Oh, right there.
  221. 8:00Get in your feet.
  222. 8:01Get off your heels.
  223. 8:02Brooke has her work cut out for her this week.
  224. 8:06This solo is tough.
  225. 8:08Her routine is called "Paint the Picture"
  226. 8:11because she actually makes pictures with her body.
  227. 8:14She has one trick after another after another.
  228. 8:17So her stamina needs to be built up.
  229. 8:19And she has to knock one out of the park.
  230. 8:21You're dismissed.
  231. 8:22Have your mother meet me outside, pronto.
  232. 8:29I want to talk to you-- a couple things.
  233. 8:31OK.
  234. 8:32First of all, Paige has a prop.
  235. 8:34She has the chair.
  236. 8:35The chair needs some rubber stoppers on the bottom of it
  237. 8:38so that doesn't move on her on stage.
  238. 8:40OK.
  239. 8:41So I'm letting you take that chair home tonight.
  240. 8:44Get whatever you need done to it.
  241. 8:45And make sure tomorrow, she has it to practice with.
  242. 8:48The other thing I want to talk to you
  243. 8:49about is Brooke and the voice lessons.
  244. 8:52I want her to take from the woman that teaches here.
  245. 8:55I don't care what you've heard.
  246. 8:56I don't care if you like her or not.
  247. 8:57Brooke wants to sing.
  248. 8:59And I think Brooke does have a nice voice.
  249. 9:01But it's not about walking around singing to your iPod.
  250. 9:04It's learning to read sheet music, learning your scales.
  251. 9:08Get a clue, "mom-ager."
  252. 9:09I manage her.
  253. 9:10You signed the piece of paper that I manage her.
  254. 9:12And I want to be able to hear her.
  255. 9:14You manage her with dance.
  256. 9:16This is something I want to do with my daughter.
  257. 9:19I don't want it to have anything to do with Abby.
  258. 9:21And Abby is just so pushy.
  259. 9:23She just wants to be in charge of everything.
  260. 9:25Well, I don't think you know what you're doing.
  261. 9:27If you want to take a voice lesson here, I will do that.
  262. 9:28OK.
  263. 9:31But that has to do with you getting her this opportunity.
  264. 9:31That's fine.
  265. 9:34Kelly, why do you act this way?
  266. 9:35I've been telling her.
  267. 9:36I told her 20 times in the last month--
  268. 9:38why aren't you taking voice?
  269. 9:39Why aren't you taking voice?
  270. 9:41You want to do it?
  271. 9:43All right.
  272. 9:44Then do it.
  273. 9:45When I say sing, sing.
  274. 9:52[MUSIC PLAYING]
  275. 9:52Hey.
  276. 9:53Hi. Um.
  277. 9:54Yeah.
  278. 9:56All the kids leave and they run to get out of here.
  279. 9:57And my daughter, I have to drag her by the hair to leave.
  280. 10:00You know how that is. - I know.
  281. 10:02Since Maddie hasn't had a solo in two weeks,
  282. 10:04she really hasn't had that private time with anyone
  283. 10:06like the other girls have had.
  284. 10:08So I just wanted her to just have a little time with Abby
  285. 10:11and keep her skill level up.
  286. 10:13She hasn't been dancing a lot this last week.
  287. 10:15Can she have a private with you tomorrow for an hour?
  288. 10:17- An hour? - Or whatever.
  289. 10:19I don't know if I have an hour.
  290. 10:20Oh, that's fine.
  291. 10:20Even half an hour, I don't care--
  292. 10:21But you know, I have all the solo music for her.
  293. 10:23I have costumes drawn.
  294. 10:24I have ideas.
  295. 10:26But she does not have the confidence.
  296. 10:28She doesn't have the fire even in the group dance.
  297. 10:31She was much better than everybody else.
  298. 10:33When Melissa approached me about teaching Maddie
  299. 10:35in private, I thought, you know what?
  300. 10:38This is my chance to get into Maddie's head
  301. 10:39and find out what's going on. Yes.
  302. 10:41Absolutely. - OK.
  303. 10:42OK.
  304. 10:43[MUSIC PLAYING]
  305. 10:49Cartwheel one.
  306. 10:51Cartwheel two.
  307. 10:53I've selected the "Circus, Circus" music for Mackenzie
  308. 10:53Woo.
  309. 10:57and Nia's duet.
  310. 10:57Run, run, dive.
  311. 10:58Go.
  312. 10:59To one knee.
  313. 11:01Roll.
  314. 11:02My duet this week with Nia is an acro dance.
  315. 11:06And I'm really excited.
  316. 11:08And go.
  317. 11:09One, two.
  318. 11:12It's called "Circus, Circus."
  319. 11:13I love the circus.
  320. 11:15So Mackenzie is going to be the lion.
  321. 11:18And Nia will be the lion tamer.
  322. 11:20It's cute.
  323. 11:21They'll have fun doing it.
  324. 11:22[MUSIC PLAYING]
  325. 11:29[SINGING SCALES]
  326. 11:33When you sing C--
  327. 11:34(NASALLY) You kind of got to get it in your nose a little bit.
  328. 11:37Abby's making me go to her voice teacher
  329. 11:40that she has teaching at our studio.
  330. 11:43And her name is Kathy.
  331. 11:44You have to open your mouth no matter how horrible it looks.
  332. 11:47Hey, there you are. - Hello.
  333. 11:48And where have you been, miss?
  334. 11:50Oh, teaching.
  335. 11:51KATHY: Oh, well, OK.
  336. 11:51How's she doing?
  337. 11:53I think she can sing as well as she wants to sing.
  338. 11:56That's nice to hear.
  339. 11:57I've been telling Brooke 20 times in the last month--
  340. 12:01I've said Brooke, take a voice lesson.
  341. 12:03All right.
  342. 12:04Now where's-- didn't you write a song?
  343. 12:06KATHY: Let's hear it.
  344. 12:08(SINGING) In that record round and round, because I can't get
  345. 12:12enough of that summer sound.
  346. 12:14ABBY LEE MILLER: Woo.
  347. 12:16Thank you.
  348. 12:16You're welcome.
  349. 12:17ABBY LEE MILLER: Kelly, walk your kid
  350. 12:1930 feet down the hallway.
  351. 12:20Take a voice lesson once a week.
  352. 12:22That's all I'm saying.
  353. 12:23All right.
  354. 12:24So you have to decide.
  355. 12:25And you tell your mother, this is what we're doing.
  356. 12:28Yes?
  357. 12:29Because I don't want any "mom-ager" ruining you.
  358. 12:32[MUSIC PLAYING]
  359. 12:37HOLLY: OK.
  360. 12:38We've got step up shop.
  361. 12:39Woo.
  362. 12:40Full of goodies.
  363. 12:41Abby assigned me a challenge of creating the costumes
  364. 12:46for the group dance.
  365. 12:47I think that Abby doesn't think I can do it.
  366. 12:49I refuse to give her the satisfaction of seeing me fail.
  367. 12:53Here are some images that I came up--
  368. 12:54Scary images.
  369. 12:55I want my kids to wear the toe shoes.
  370. 12:57This week's number is all about these zombies
  371. 13:00returning from the dead.
  372. 13:02And they have to kind of like breathe life back into dance
  373. 13:05because, apparently, they're so boring
  374. 13:07when you watch them on stage, according to Abby.
  375. 13:08They don't look exactly like that,
  376. 13:10but they were the inspiration behind.
  377. 13:12We are going to stick together as a group.
  378. 13:14And we are going to make the costumes.
  379. 13:16And we're going to do them fabulous.
  380. 13:17I think once we dye it, then we need
  381. 13:20to get some, like, dark, like, black, and stuff,
  382. 13:22and like put around these edges.
  383. 13:25We are ripping costumes.
  384. 13:26We're cutting things up.
  385. 13:28We're distressing them.
  386. 13:30And then we just made some grass stains on them.
  387. 13:32We spent $20 on that dress.
  388. 13:35CHRISTI: Kelly is taking all of her frustrations for Abby
  389. 13:38out on this poor little prom dress on the floor,
  390. 13:40like, digging it into the dirt, like, I hate you, Abby.
  391. 13:44Oh, look at that!
  392. 13:44[YELLS]
  393. 13:45That looks distressed.
  394. 13:47[MUSIC PLAYING]
  395. 13:53Five, six, seven, go.
  396. 13:56One-- Chloe, you're too slow.
  397. 13:58Energy!
  398. 13:59What are you doing?
  399. 14:00Come on!
  400. 14:01A hot pink effin' rhinestone chair.
  401. 14:03I've heard it before.
  402. 14:05I should have.
  403. 14:06I was so busy trying to get everything together
  404. 14:09to make these costumes.
  405. 14:11Which reminds me, you took care of your prop, right?
  406. 14:13That's good.
  407. 14:15It totally slipped my mind that I had to do all this work
  408. 14:18to Paige's chair.
  409. 14:19Oh, I was supposed to buy stoppers.
  410. 14:21Uh.
  411. 14:22ABBY LEE MILLER: Wow.
  412. 14:23That's great energy, Brook.
  413. 14:25Not one to make me get up and dance-- boring.
  414. 14:28Yawning.
  415. 14:30Sloppy.
  416. 14:33Lazy.
  417. 14:34She's yelling at them because their facial expressions are
  418. 14:36not expressing energy?
  419. 14:38What does a zombie's facial expression look like?
  420. 14:41HOLLY: That's what I'm thinking, yeah.
  421. 14:41Exactly.
  422. 14:42Like, they're dead.
  423. 14:43All right.
  424. 14:44Solo. Get your chair.
  425. 14:45Let's go.
  426. 14:46CHRISTI: Paige needs her chair.
  427. 14:48Paige needs her chair.
  428. 14:49OK.
  429. 14:50Go.
  430. 14:53It's all done.
  431. 15:00You're just doing it now?
  432. 15:02Didn't you take that home last night?
  433. 15:03I told her to take the chair.
  434. 15:05As soon as the chair came into the room
  435. 15:06and I touched it and I saw that my hands were
  436. 15:09black with marker, I knew right then and there,
  437. 15:12her mother, Kelly, left the chair in the studio.
  438. 15:16Dingbat. - Oh, look.
  439. 15:17She's looking to see if it's--
  440. 15:21ABBY LEE MILLER: Where are the stoppers?
  441. 15:22I wanted these rubber stoppers.
  442. 15:25I'll have them for the competition.
  443. 15:26No stoppers.
  444. 15:27I mean, really?
  445. 15:29This is important, Kelly.
  446. 15:31Do something!
  447. 15:33[SLAMMING SOUNDS]
  448. 15:34Done!
  449. 15:35[GASPS]
  450. 15:37[BLEEP] you, Abby.
  451. 15:39ABBY LEE MILLER: You don't need them for the competition.
  452. 15:41I told you to do it for today.
  453. 15:43Look at that language.
  454. 15:44Doesn't that embarrass you that she
  455. 15:46has to use language like that?
  456. 15:48That's what a truck driver uses.
  457. 15:50MELISSA: Why would she do that to Paige?
  458. 15:51CHRISTI: She threw the chair.
  459. 15:53You're finished.
  460. 15:54Next.
  461. 15:56Who's solo?
  462. 15:59KELLY: Why are you punishing Paige?
  463. 16:00Abby should have left the room, came and spoke to me.
  464. 16:04And I would have explained to her why she
  465. 16:06had no stoppers on her chair--
  466. 16:08because I was busy doing Abby Lee Miller's job,
  467. 16:10making her costumes.
  468. 16:13Oh.
  469. 16:14Go get Paige.
  470. 16:14[BLEEP]
  471. 16:15[INAUDIBLE]
  472. 16:16[BLEEP]
  473. 16:24You know what, Abby?
  474. 16:25We're done.
  475. 16:26You're not doing a solo.
  476. 16:28Neither of my kids are doing your group dance.
  477. 16:30That's fine. KELLY: OK?
  478. 16:31That's fine.
  479. 16:32Good luck making-- paying your bills without my tuition.
  480. 16:37I pay for costumes and props.
  481. 16:39And I don't get them.
  482. 16:40I've been here all day making costumes for you while you were
  483. 16:45down the road eating.
  484. 16:47Stop eating!
  485. 16:48That's why you're fat.
  486. 16:49Good bye.
  487. 16:52You were a mean girl when you were 12.
  488. 16:53You're still a mean girl.
  489. 16:55PAIGE: (CRYING) I want to go home.
  490. 16:56We are.
  491. 16:58Paige was frightened because Abby is a 400-pound woman
  492. 17:01and threw a chair with my daughter in the room.
  493. 17:03You can credit me for the rest of my tuition for the month.
  494. 17:06And rip up my credit card number.
  495. 17:09[SLAMS DOOR]
  496. 17:15[MUSIC PLAYING]
  497. 17:18So I made an agreement with my girls
  498. 17:20that I would take them to the studio.
  499. 17:22But I was going to stay outside with the moms
  500. 17:24and do the costumes.
  501. 17:25I just did not want to argue with Abby.
  502. 17:29My kids want to go in and dance.
  503. 17:30Like, if I go in there, she's just going to fight with me.
  504. 17:32So can they go in with you and Nia?
  505. 17:34I'll walk the girls in.
  506. 17:36I think Kelly came back because she wants
  507. 17:38to prove to Paige and Brooke that you don't let
  508. 17:40your team down.
  509. 17:41I'm here because my kids want to be here.
  510. 17:43[INTERPOSING VOICES]
  511. 17:44KELLY: Paige.
  512. 17:45What?
  513. 17:46Don't let her upset you.
  514. 17:48Good thing they're children and they, like,
  515. 17:50can just forget about all this crap, because I don't know.
  516. 17:53I have a hard time forgetting it.
  517. 17:56MELISSA: Hi, honey.
  518. 17:57Hello.
  519. 17:58MELISSA: What a beautiful day.
  520. 18:00Oh, isn't it gorgeous?
  521. 18:01It is so nice.
  522. 18:03Because I'm-- what I think is that we need a--
  523. 18:06Hustle. Hustle.
  524. 18:07Hustle.
  525. 18:08Paige and Brooke come back into rehearsal.
  526. 18:09I'm going to let the kids do the dance.
  527. 18:11It's fine.
  528. 18:12We're good to go.
  529. 18:13Let's take the whole group.
  530. 18:14[MUSIC PLAYING]
  531. 18:21I got a lot of--
  532. 18:22[INTERPOSING VOICES]
  533. 18:23Aw, Claire and Mackenzie would have fun out here.
  534. 18:25KELLY: I think it was nice for us
  535. 18:27to actually get outside and work on the costumes
  536. 18:30and get fresh air.
  537. 18:31I just think it was a nice change for us.
  538. 18:33Just because Abby's an ass, I wasn't
  539. 18:35going to screw the girls.
  540. 18:36The group.
  541. 18:37Or you guys or whatever.
  542. 18:39I'm glad you stood up to her and went.
  543. 18:42[MUSIC PLAYING]
  544. 18:52Contestant number, blank--
  545. 18:54Chloe with "Unchained."
  546. 18:56Chloe's routine is called "Unchained."
  547. 18:58It's very avant garde.
  548. 19:00It's more of a jazz repertoire.
  549. 19:02And again, I think this is a good number for Chloe.
  550. 19:05Faster!
  551. 19:07I think the style and the music,
  552. 19:09and the personality and attitude and--
  553. 19:12it's more like darker and mysterious.
  554. 19:15Stomach.
  555. 19:20It felt really good to be on the pyramid two weeks in a row.
  556. 19:23But it's a lot of pressure.
  557. 19:25Yes.
  558. 19:27It's good.
  559. 19:29Kelly, I am not only happy to see
  560. 19:31you back and the girls back, I'm also happy to see the costumes.
  561. 19:35We did some great work yesterday.
  562. 19:37We're wrapping up.
  563. 19:38We've done just about everything we could possibly
  564. 19:40do to these costumes.
  565. 19:42And I'm feeling really good about them.
  566. 19:44You're the best team ever.
  567. 19:46KELLY: I feel like a zombie.
  568. 19:51MELISSA: OK.
  569. 19:51Let's hurry up and get in there.
  570. 19:53It's really great that Maddie is going
  571. 19:54to be able to have a technique private.
  572. 19:56Plie flex.
  573. 19:58Feet. Feet.
  574. 19:59See that hip up.
  575. 20:01I know that Melissa is worried about Maddie not doing solo.
  576. 20:01Feet.
  577. 20:04I know she cannot stand it that her kid is not the center
  578. 20:07of my attention.
  579. 20:08I get that.
  580. 20:09Seven, eight.
  581. 20:11Stretch back to your shoulders.
  582. 20:13But I am not giving in.
  583. 20:14Maddie has to want it.
  584. 20:15You didn't have a solo last week.
  585. 20:17You don't have a solo this week.
  586. 20:20You need to have that fire back in you.
  587. 20:24You love to dance, and I know that.
  588. 20:26Of course, I started to cry, because she loves Miss Abby.
  589. 20:29They do have this special thing.
  590. 20:31I never had that with a teacher.
  591. 20:33But ever since New Jersey and you exited that stage,
  592. 20:37you're not the same Maddie.
  593. 20:38I don't see that fire in you.
  594. 20:40You have to show us that you want it bad.
  595. 20:44You know--
  596. 20:44Hey, Mom.
  597. 20:45Please don't cry.
  598. 20:46She loves to be here.
  599. 20:48You know that?
  600. 20:50You know I love you?
  601. 20:51I know.
  602. 20:52And when those women say bad things about you,
  603. 20:54it hurts my heart.
  604. 20:55And it hurts Maddie's heart too.
  605. 20:57And I just walked right out of the room.
  606. 20:59I was like, I'm embarrassed, so I need to leave.
  607. 21:01These mothers, the way they talk to you.
  608. 21:04I think it's awful how these kids disrespect you too.
  609. 21:08Chloe rolls her eyes in class all the time.
  610. 21:10I know. I know
  611. 21:11What I'm upset about is that Chloe leaves class
  612. 21:14early all the time.
  613. 21:15On Monday, she went to the doctors.
  614. 21:17And Kelly, Christi's so-called best friend, which they're not,
  615. 21:21called me and said, oh, Christi is taking Chloe's out of school
  616. 21:24early today to take her to the doctor's.
  617. 21:26And then she's taking her to the movies.
  618. 21:28Melissa, don't worry about these three mothers that
  619. 21:31don't know their right foot from their left.
  620. 21:33Who cares what they think?
  621. 21:34They're just jealous of our relationship.
  622. 21:36And they got to get over it, like, you know.
  623. 21:37That has to do with Maddie.
  624. 21:39I know that.
  625. 21:40But always remember, I have her best interests.
  626. 21:43You always have my daughters'--
  627. 21:44Where did she go?
  628. 21:46She better be somewhere working on those feet
  629. 21:48and not playing around.
  630. 21:52[MUSIC PLAYING]
  631. 22:01So I get on the bus and no Kelly.
  632. 22:05Woo.
  633. 22:06Hallelujah.
  634. 22:07Kelly can use her gas, her mileage.
  635. 22:10She just better get there.
  636. 22:11She better be there on time.
  637. 22:13And those kids better be well rested.
  638. 22:15Bus driver, where are you going?
  639. 22:17This is not the correct way.
  640. 22:26We're going to Energy Dance in Chicago, Illinois.
  641. 22:30You know, Chicago is the Midwest.
  642. 22:32It's a big city.
  643. 22:33There's lots of amazing schools that attend the competitions.
  644. 22:36So the girls need to come out with more energy, more
  645. 22:39enthusiasm, and more sass.
  646. 22:42They can't be all about zombies.
  647. 22:46Paige is on in 20 minutes.
  648. 22:47And she's not in here.
  649. 22:48She's not ready.
  650. 22:49And I can't find her anywhere.
  651. 22:51Maybe she's--
  652. 22:52She's not backstage.
  653. 22:59[MUSIC PLAYING]
  654. 22:59Paige is on in 20 minutes.
  655. 23:01And she's not in here.
  656. 23:02She's not ready.
  657. 23:02And I can't find her anywhere.
  658. 23:04She's not backstage.
  659. 23:06I don't know why Kelly, Brooke, and Paige aren't
  660. 23:08at the competition.
  661. 23:09I haven't had an opportunity to talk to Kelly
  662. 23:11because I'm busy getting Chloe ready.
  663. 23:13So I don't really know what Kelly's mindset
  664. 23:15is at this point.
  665. 23:16She should be in here, warming up, preparing, ready to go on.
  666. 23:20My daughter is nine years old.
  667. 23:21She's not 18.
  668. 23:22She doesn't make her own decisions.
  669. 23:24And I'm going to speak for my daughter.
  670. 23:27So I pulled Maddie aside and had a little chat with her.
  671. 23:46OK?
  672. 23:47You're fine, happy.
  673. 23:49Turn it.
  674. 23:51My mom encouraged me to go talk to Abby
  675. 23:53and say I was ready to do a solo.
  676. 23:55So I'm totally confident and I'm ready to compete.
  677. 24:01You want me to come out in the hall and run your number?
  678. 24:03- No. - You don't even have a number.
  679. 24:05Maddie asked if she could talk to me.
  680. 24:07Now, perfect example-- that's a kid taking the initiative,
  681. 24:11asking an adult politely, "can I speak with you?"
  682. 24:13Sure.
  683. 24:18Are you ready? - Yes.
  684. 24:19Can you beat everybody?
  685. 24:20I think, yeah.
  686. 24:22But you don't look-- you're like, yes.
  687. 24:23I think, yes.
  688. 24:25Maddie, if you don't want to do it, don't do it.
  689. 24:26Nobody cares. - I want to.
  690. 24:27You act like someone's making you do it.
  691. 24:29I want to do my solo.
  692. 24:31I think I can do my solo.
  693. 24:32I'm ready to do my solo-- very wishy-washy.
  694. 24:34That's not a game face.
  695. 24:36That's not the Maddie face I know,
  696. 24:38the Maddie that's jumping and warming up,
  697. 24:40trying to psych Chloe up.
  698. 24:41You go out there with that face, she's
  699. 24:43going to beat the crap out of you.
  700. 24:44I think you don't want to dance because you think she's going
  701. 24:46to beat you. - She wants to dance.
  702. 24:47She's just afraid of you.
  703. 24:48ABBY LEE MILLER: Don't talk for her.
  704. 24:50Well, I am talking. I'm her mom.
  705. 24:51Of course, without a beat, up comes Melissa.
  706. 24:54"Abby, she's ready. She really wants to do this."
  707. 24:56Da da da. Da da.
  708. 24:57I'm like, shh.
  709. 24:58It's not about you, Melissa.
  710. 25:00It's not your decision.
  711. 25:01Stop with the tears.
  712. 25:03Babies cry, not you.
  713. 25:05Do you understand that?
  714. 25:06Yes.
  715. 25:08It's my dance company.
  716. 25:09I say who's dancing and who isn't.
  717. 25:11So I'm looking at this kid and I thought, you know what,
  718. 25:14throw her out there.
  719. 25:15She needs to know if she comes to me
  720. 25:16and asks me for something, then it means business.
  721. 25:19And we're going through with it.
  722. 25:20What I'm trying to do is enter Maddie.
  723. 25:22OK.
  724. 25:23So I'm just letting you know that these two,
  725. 25:25I haven't seen since we walked in the building.
  726. 25:27- We're not going to scratch. - OK.
  727. 25:29So we need to add Maddie--
  728. 25:30I need you to enforce your rules.
  729. 25:32So if you call them and they're not here,
  730. 25:34and you call them again and they're not here,
  731. 25:36then they're an automatic scratch.
  732. 25:38Now I registered Maddie.
  733. 25:40We put her in no problem.
  734. 25:42We're good to go.
  735. 25:45No.
  736. 25:46Because you have to run your solo.
  737. 25:47Here.
  738. 25:49It's-- you know.
  739. 25:51When Melissa walks in and tells us that Maddie is now
  740. 25:53doing a solo, I thought, well, it's par for the course.
  741. 25:56I think Abby's greatest pleasure in life
  742. 25:58is to put Maddie and Chloe against one another.
  743. 26:00So this is obviously something planned.
  744. 26:02[DRUMBEAT]
  745. 26:06Get out there and show her how good you are,
  746. 26:08and that you don't need your teacher to help you.
  747. 26:11[MUSIC PLAYING]
  748. 26:13Hello.
  749. 26:14We are dancing.
  750. 26:16I just didn't want to deal with Abby.
  751. 26:18I did not want to ride on a bus with her for that long.
  752. 26:20I haven't talked to her since we had
  753. 26:22our argument with the chair.
  754. 26:24I did not want to get my kids upset before they went on stage
  755. 26:28to perform.
  756. 26:29I've been looking all over the place.
  757. 26:31I just walked in the room two minutes ago.
  758. 26:34Better late than never.
  759. 26:37Kelly and Abby have a very long history.
  760. 26:39And I think with that long history,
  761. 26:41there's a lot of tension.
  762. 26:42I think those tensions bubble up from time to time.
  763. 26:45It's awkward.
  764. 26:46[MUSIC PLAYING QUIETLY]
  765. 26:54KELLY: Paige is running her solo in the Green Room,
  766. 26:56and Abby can't even have the decency
  767. 26:58to look up from her laptop.
  768. 27:00With Maddie during her solo, Paige
  769. 27:02is just nonexistent to Abby.
  770. 27:04And Paige knows it.
  771. 27:05[MUSIC PLAYING]
  772. 27:17Why is Maddie dancing?
  773. 27:19Why is Maddie dancing?
  774. 27:21MACKENZIE: Is she actually doing it?
  775. 27:22Yup.
  776. 27:24MELISSA: Go watch.
  777. 27:24Nothing against you, Maddie.
  778. 27:26I'm just saying, they need to give my kids more time
  779. 27:28to rehearse theirs. - Oh, I agree.
  780. 27:29- I agree. - It has nothing to do with you.
  781. 27:31I am just getting more and more pissed off.
  782. 27:33My girls were the ones that had solos this week.
  783. 27:35Abby should have been working with them all week instead
  784. 27:38of throwing chairs.
  785. 27:42You know, it was my girls' week.
  786. 27:44They finally got a solo.
  787. 27:45She needed to work with them. And she didn't.
  788. 27:47I'm done.
  789. 27:48And so are my daughters.
  790. 27:49And I'm not letting them on that stage.
  791. 27:51I'm pulling their solos.
  792. 27:52Come on.
  793. 27:57[ELECTRONIC MUSIC PLAYING]
  794. 28:04ANNOUNCER 1: Entry number 31A, "Tongue Twister."

  798. 28:16ANNOUNCER 2: This is entry number 31A,
  799. 28:21Paige performing "Tongue Twister."
  800. 28:24[APPLAUSE]
  801. 28:28No Paige.
  802. 28:30I just saw her 15 minutes ago warming up in her costume.
  803. 28:33Where is she?
  804. 28:34ANNOUNCER 1: Judges, please give a hand to entry number 42A,
  805. 28:37Brooke performing--
  806. 28:38[APPLAUSE]
  807. 28:40"Paint the Pictures."
  808. 28:45ABBY LEE MILLER: Brooke and Paige don't show up.
  809. 28:47Once again, Abby Lee Miller looks like the jerk.
  810. 28:50Abby Lee Dance Company is tarnished.
  811. 28:53Calling out their names and them not being there--
  812. 28:56unprofessional.
  813. 28:59ANNOUNCER 1: Judges, please welcome entry number 51A.
  814. 29:01This is Chloe.
  815. 29:03[APPLAUSE]
  816. 29:04Woo!
  817. 29:10[MUSIC PLAYING]
  818. 29:19Woo.
  819. 29:20As I'm watching Chloe do her solo, I'm thinking,
  820. 29:22she is really knocking this out of the park.
  821. 29:24She owns this stage.
  822. 29:48[APPLAUSE]
  823. 29:53This time, I just decided to stop second-guessing myself
  824. 29:57and just go out there with confidence.
  825. 30:00And I did.
  826. 30:01And I thought I did really good.
  827. 30:03So I'm going to try to do that every time.
  828. 30:05[APPLAUSE]
  829. 30:09I'm really nervous about dancing against Chloe.
  830. 30:11But I'm more nervous for my solo,
  831. 30:13because last time I did this solo, I forgot it.
  832. 30:17But I need to toughen up and show Miss Abby that I
  833. 30:19can be the same old Maddie.
  834. 30:20ANNOUNCER 1: This is Maddie performing "In My Heart."
  835. 30:23[APPLAUSE]
  836. 30:33[MUSIC PLAYING]
  837. 30:42(SINGING) I saw you in my dream last night.
  838. 30:45You had your smile so white, I thought
  839. 30:49your teeth were the stars.
  840. 30:52Your eyes, they were like tiny rivers.
  841. 30:55Well, it gave me the shivers when you looked right up at me.
  842. 31:03[INAUDIBLE]
  843. 31:04[MUSIC SKIPPING]
  844. 31:13[MUSIC PLAYING]
  845. 31:14[INAUDIBLE]
  846. 31:15[MUSIC SKIPPING]
  847. 31:20The CD skips.
  848. 31:23My heart just goes [INAUDIBLE] into my throat.
  849. 31:26So I'm looking at that stage.
  850. 31:27And I am like mental telepathy, willing
  851. 31:30that kid, stay out there.
  852. 31:33Don't move off that stage.
  853. 31:35[MUSIC SKIPPING]
  854. 31:36Go, Maddie!
  855. 31:38[APPLAUSE]
  856. 31:39Keep going!
  857. 31:43[MUSIC PLAYING]
  858. 31:46Woo!
  859. 31:47[APPLAUSE]
  860. 31:57She never missed a beat.
  861. 31:58It was a great way to come back after a catastrophe.
  862. 32:06We did it.
  863. 32:08My daughter is nine years old and she handled herself
  864. 32:11like a professional on stage.
  865. 32:13She was amazing.
  866. 32:15I'm so proud of her.
  867. 32:16When I walked off, I was really pleased with myself
  868. 32:20because I just said to myself, I did it.
  869. 32:23[CHEERING]
  870. 32:31ANNOUNCER 2: Here we go.
  871. 32:32Moving on to our Energy Junior solos.
  872. 32:34I think it's a competitive thing between Maddie and Chloe.
  873. 32:37You always need somebody to threaten you,
  874. 32:40standing beside you pushing your buttons.
  875. 32:43That's a good healthy competition.
  876. 32:45ANNOUNCER 2: Third place goes to entry number 51A,
  877. 32:49"Unchained," Chloe from the Abby Lee Dance Company.
  878. 32:55Second place goes to entry number 58A, "In My Heart,"
  879. 32:59Maddie from the Abby Lee Dance Company.
  880. 33:01[APPLAUSE]
  881. 33:03CHRISTI: Maddie might not have gotten first place
  882. 33:05at the competition.
  883. 33:06But in Abby's eyes, she's the winner.
  884. 33:08[APPLAUSE]
  885. 33:11[MUSIC PLAYING]
  886. 33:16So what are you going to do with the group dance?
  887. 33:20I don't know.
  888. 33:21You know, I did not have my kids dance
  889. 33:23because I do not want to support Abby as a dance teacher.
  890. 33:27I didn't approve of the way Abby was treating my kids.
  891. 33:30And I did not want them to do the group number.
  892. 33:32But I also want my kids to know that you
  893. 33:36can't let a group down.
  894. 33:37I don't want it to be that my kids screwed up the group.
  895. 33:39- No. - We're here to support them.
  896. 33:40Our kids don't care.
  897. 33:42If you need them, I will allow them to dance as the group.
  898. 33:44I just want to support Kelly as a friend.
  899. 33:47Whatever decision she makes, I want to stand behind that.
  900. 33:50She's conflicted as a mom.
  901. 33:51What is the right decision?
  902. 33:53If that's your choice to have them not perform,
  903. 33:56then we will stand by you as your friends.
  904. 33:58They sat in that audience and watched your kids dance.
  905. 34:01And I know all they wanted to do was go and do their dances.
  906. 34:02I know.
  907. 34:06So I don't want to do it to them more.
  908. 34:08Abby is a grudge holder.
  909. 34:10And if Kelly pulls those kids from the group,
  910. 34:12it's just going to perpetuate this fight longer.
  911. 34:18[MUSIC PLAYING]
  912. 34:25ANNOUNCER 1: This is "Circus, Circus."
  913. 34:28[APPLAUSE]
  914. 34:32[MUSIC PLAYING]
  915. 34:52I was so proud of Nia and Mackenzie.
  916. 34:55I can't wait until they do another duet.
  917. 34:56They were terrific.
  918. 35:01[APPLAUSE]
  919. 35:02ANNOUNCER 2: Nice work, ladies.
  920. 35:05I'm very proud of Mackenzie and I,
  921. 35:07because we pulled that to duet off in three days.
  922. 35:11[CHEERING]
  923. 35:17It's time for the last number, the group number.
  924. 35:20And the group isn't complete without a Brooke and Paige.
  925. 35:22So should I let the girls dance?
  926. 35:24I think they complete the group.
  927. 35:26[MUSIC PLAYING]
  928. 35:27Close your eyes.
  929. 35:32Who's doing hair?
  930. 35:33Woo.
  931. 35:34Looking good.
  932. 35:35When I walked into the dressing room,
  933. 35:37I was thoroughly impressed.
  934. 35:41They looked like statues.
  935. 35:44Abby, what about this for the blood?
  936. 35:45[INTERPOSING VOICES] - I've never made blood before.
  937. 35:47I think, honestly, that Abby expected me to fail.
  938. 35:50I don't think she thought I could pull this off.
  939. 35:52And I surprised her.
  940. 35:54ABBY LEE MILLER: Listen to me.
  941. 35:56When you step out there, I want you to look like somebody
  942. 36:00turned you on.
  943. 36:01Let's give me 150% energy.
  944. 36:03Let's suck those judges in.
  945. 36:05And let's win.
  946. 36:06I'm sick and tired of being top five.
  947. 36:08Let's be on top.
  948. 36:11ANNOUNCER 2: Please welcome to the stage entry number 135A.
  949. 36:13[CHEERING]
  950. 36:14This is "Glam."
  951. 36:19[MUSIC PLAYING]
  952. 36:33(SINGING) Walk the walk.
  953. 36:34Move your hips.
  954. 36:35You can talk without your lips.
  955. 36:37Movie star, head to toe.
  956. 36:39Tap your shoes, it's time to go, go, go, go, go.
  957. 36:43Steal the show, and show 'em you're the beauty queen.
  958. 36:46Get your name on the Walk of Fame.
  959. 36:50Strut.
  960. 36:53MELISSA: The girls were on stage and it is fabulous.
  961. 36:56I think this is one of the best dances
  962. 36:59that our girls did on stage.
  963. 37:00The acting was great.
  964. 37:02The makeup, the costumes, everything just came together.
  965. 37:04[MUSIC] And move it to the beat.
  966. 37:06Get your swagger on and move it to the beat.

  971. 37:26HOLLY: And I'm speechless.
  972. 37:28The performance was excellent.
  973. 37:30The energy was great in the group dance this week.
  974. 37:32I don't think Abby is going to have any complaints about that.

1008. 39:02KELLY: It's at the end of the competition day
1009. 39:04and things are winding down.
1010. 39:06And I'm just wondering what it is that Abby
1011. 39:09is going to say to me.
1012. 39:10I know that she's mad at me for pulling their solos.
1013. 39:13God only knows what's going to come out of her mouth.
1014. 39:16Maddie and Brooke, go with Gia to get your stuff washed off.
1015. 39:22I look over at Kelly and I can tell that brain is just tick,
  1016. 39:24tick, ticking.
1017. 39:26I mean for once, it's actually working.
1018. 39:28She's trying to come up with some excuse, some reason
1019. 39:32for her kids not to perform their solos.
  1020. 39:35Well, you know what?
  1021. 39:36I've had it.
1022. 39:37It's time to call her out and let her know who's boss.
  1023. 39:40I'm disappointed that my kids didn't
1024. 39:42get to do their solos today.
1025. 39:43But I'm glad they did the group.
1026. 39:45I thought it turned out good.
1027. 39:46I think they would have done fabulous.
  1028. 39:48But we'll never know.
  1029. 39:49No, we won't.
1030. 39:51I saw them in their costumes.
1031. 39:52They were here, ready to go.
  1032. 39:54KELLY: Everybody else ran there's 10 times
1033. 39:56and had an extra day of practice on it.
  1034. 39:59That's not fair.
1035. 40:01My daughter is not going to go on stage
1036. 40:02and forget her dance again and look like an ass
  1037. 40:04because you've made her feel flustered.
1038. 40:07You didn't have time to run your dance?
1039. 40:08What is this "run your dance" crap?
1040. 40:10If you don't know by the time you get to the venue,
1041. 40:12you're not going to know it.
1042. 40:14What else do you want me to do?
  1043. 40:15I was ready.
1044. 40:16I was here to play ball.
1045. 40:18I tell you to put stoppers on a chair and paint it black.
1046. 40:20Put stoppers on the chair and paint it black.
1047. 40:23Don't blame me and pass the buck on everybody else.
1048. 40:26You screwed up, like you always do.
  1049. 40:28Quit enabling them.
1050. 40:30I want kids that want to dance.
1051. 40:32I want kids that want to be here.
1052. 40:34And if your kid isn't one of them,
1053. 40:35cut your losses, break your studio contract, and go.
1054. 40:39And Kelly, I was the first one at the hospital when
1055. 40:43your husband ran over your kid's foot.
1056. 40:45I was in the hospital room hugging your kid.
1057. 40:48And now you say those things about me.
  1058. 40:50How dare you?
  1059. 40:51Your kid doesn't want to dance. They're lazy.
  1060. 40:53And they don't like to lose.
  1061. 40:57[DOOR CLOSES]
