3. 0:04home safe from the distraught mother
4. 0:06whose heartbreaking plight prompted
5. 0:08sympathy the world over to one of the
6. 0:11most vilified women in Britain Karin
7. 0:13Matthews fall from grace was dramatic in
8. 0:17one of the most notorious crimes of
9. 0:18recent times ten years ago Matthews from
10. 0:21Jewsbury
11. 0:22was locked up for faking the kidnap of
12. 0:24her own daughter
13. 0:25nine-year-old Shannon not only a case of
14. 0:29unthinkable betrayal it was also a crime
15. 0:31which cost millions of pounds in police
16. 0:33resources and tarnished the reputation
17. 0:35of the dude be more estate perhaps for
18. 0:38good
19. 0:38but today Karen Matthews has claimed
20. 0:41that the continued anger directed at her
21. 0:42is unfair now out of prison and having
22. 0:46been moved to the south of England for
23. 0:47her own safety in an interview with a
24. 0:49national newspaper Matthews continues to
25. 0:52deny that she had anything to do with
26. 0:53Shannon's disappearance and claims she
27. 0:56doesn't deserve the abuse she's had from
28. 0:59those who worked on the case at the time
29. 1:01there's little sympathy right because
30. 1:04she was behind what happened
31. 1:05Jane Taylor Barron was a detective who
32. 1:07was involved in the investigation into
33. 1:09Shannon's disappearance and I think the
34. 1:12reason why it still gets so much
35. 1:13interest is because of how she's
36. 1:14presented herself and tried to portray
37. 1:16herself as being innocent yeah you look
38. 1:19at how many different accounts she's put
39. 1:20forward all the lies that she's told
40. 1:21throughout it clearly and this is just
41. 1:25another lie in her newspaper interview
42. 1:27Matthew says that she's been made a
43. 1:28scapegoat and adds none of it's true
44. 1:32I'm not Britain's worst mum I didn't
45. 1:35kill anyone I'm scared I'll die lonely
46. 1:39and alone but for the real victim at the
47. 1:41heart of this case they're likely to be
48. 1:43seen there's just more empty words Karen
49. 1:46used a child as a pawn in what to her
50. 1:49was her own means I think she knew
51. 1:51exactly what she was doing but I think
52. 1:53the limelight and the attention that she
53. 1:56was getting was was actually what of
54. 1:58steering her towards carrying on with
55. 2:01the pretense that she didn't know where
56. 2:03her daughter was when all along she knew
57. 2:05exactly where her daughter was
