- 0:00Brothers and sisters, can we serve the
- 0:03Jehovah
- 0:04without making any mistakes regardless
- 0:08of the whether they are big or small?
- 0:12No, not at all. Through the treasure
- 0:16from God's word section, we will
- 0:19consider heartwarming lesson that
- 0:22Jehovah is merciful father who does not
- 0:25give up on us when we make the mistake.
- 0:29But the lovingly gives us the
- 0:31opportunities to
- 0:34change. We look forward to this program.
- 0:38By examining the Jeremiah chapter 18 and
- 0:4119, we will reflect on how Jehovah, the
- 0:45great porter
- 0:47shapes us and what we can do to allow
- 0:50him to continue molding us through the
- 0:54Christian life and the ministry meeting.
- 0:57We will receive a practical training on
- 1:01how to offer Bible study
- 1:05and follow up on a previous conversation
- 1:08and explain our beliefs about the free
- 1:11will. It's interesting uh points we can
- 1:15get from the uh student part. Then the
- 1:20during the living as a Christian
- 1:22portions that we will consider
- 1:24encouraging theme of the uh spiritual
- 1:27the recovery and how Jehovah lovingly
- 1:30help those who want to listen to listen
- 1:34uh listen to him.
- 1:36for our congregation Bible study. We we
- 1:40will begin the studying our new book,
- 1:43The Walk Courageously with God.
- 1:46Doesn't that make you look forward to
- 1:49today program?
- 1:51Yes, we are. So now let's begin with our
- 1:55first part this evening. Treasure from
- 1:58God's word. Brother Steven Nusen will
- 2:01develop the theme spiritual recovery is
- 2:05not hopeless. Thank you, brother Ste.
- 2:21Did you know you
- 2:24get to choose
- 2:26the ruler?
- 2:28You get to choose the ruler. What do we
- 2:30mean by that? Well, let's have a look
- 2:32together at Romans chapter 6 and verse
- 2:3612.
- 2:38It says there, Paul wrote, "Therefore,
- 2:41do not let sin
- 2:44continue to rule as king in your mortal
- 2:47bodies so that you should obey their
- 2:51desires."
- 2:53So, what's this talking about? It's
- 2:55talking about sin ruling in our heart.
- 2:59Sin ruling. So that we follow our
- 3:02fleshly desires,
- 3:05those thoughts that come into our mind,
- 3:07all of us have them as imperfect humans
- 3:09and we follow those through. So rather
- 3:13than let sin rule in our hearts, we want
- 3:18Christ, the law of the Christ to rule in
- 3:22our hearts. So what we're going to look
- 3:24at tonight is Israel's bad example back
- 3:28in Jeremiah's day. So back then, but
- 3:31we're going to see how it can help us
- 3:34now. So first of all, let's have a look
- 3:36at Jeremiah 18:11.
- 3:39Excuse [clears throat] me. So there
- 3:41Jehovah speaking through Jeremiah says,
- 3:43"Now say please to the men of Judah and
- 3:45to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. This is
- 3:48what Jehovah says. Here I am preparing a
- 3:52calamity and a devis and devising a
- 3:54scheme against you.
- 3:58Turn back please
- 4:01from your bad ways and reform your ways
- 4:05and your practices. [sighs]
- 4:08So Jehovah here back then well let's
- 4:10focus on back then what was happening.
- 4:12The Israelites
- 4:15were worshiping Jehovah
- 4:17but they were also worshiping Baal. Bale
- 4:20worship had become firmly entrenched
- 4:24in their lifestyle. So pure worship
- 4:27didn't exist anymore in Israel. And as a
- 4:31result of that, that led to them
- 4:33practicing bad things. That in turn led
- 4:37Jehovah to say, I'm going to reject you.
- 4:41But he lovingly says, but if you reform,
- 4:44change, turn around. That's what he's
- 4:47asking them to do. So now let's focus on
- 4:50today. What about today? What do we
- 4:52fight? Well, we fight strongly
- 4:54entrenched things in our hearts as
- 4:57imperfect humans. Practices, desires,
- 4:59attitudes
- 5:01that we may still be fighting even in
- 5:04the truth that we need to overcome.
- 5:07Now, note in the scripture we just read,
- 5:11Jehovah asked them to reform. Does
- 5:12Jehovah ever ask us to do anything that
- 5:16we can't do?
- 5:18No, he never does that. So the
- 5:20Israelites back then could do what
- 5:22Jehovah was asking them to do to stop
- 5:25the bad practices, stop worshiping Baal.
- 5:28We too today can do the things that
- 5:31Jehovah is asking us to do.
- 5:34But what happened back then? So Jehovah
- 5:36invites them to change. What was the
- 5:38attitude of the people? Well, let notice
- 5:40what verse 12 says.
- 5:42So the Israelites, this is their
- 5:44response. It is hopeless. It's hopeless.
- 5:50For we will walk after our own thoughts
- 5:53and each of us will act according to the
- 5:56stubbornness
- 5:58of his wicked heart.
- 6:00So a couple of things first here in the
- 6:03scripture itself. Where is the battle
- 6:05taking place?
- 6:07Not outside.
- 6:09It's the thoughts and the hearts. That's
- 6:12why we're talking about sin ruling in
- 6:15our hearts or the law of the Christ
- 6:18listening to Jehovah God through
- 6:21imitating Christ. So here why was it
- 6:25hopeless? Why did the Israelites say it
- 6:27was hopeless?
- 6:28Because they wanted to follow their own
- 6:31desires. They wanted to listen to their
- 6:33heart and that's what they put first.
- 6:37But and and in doing so that's the
- 6:39choice they're choosing. They're
- 6:41choosing sin to rule as in their hearts.
- 6:43So that's back then. What about today?
- 6:47The choice exists. So for us, don't give
- 6:50up. Whatever you're fighting, whatever
- 6:52you're up against, don't give up. Choose
- 6:58Christ as ruler in your heart, not sin.
- 7:02Ignore the voice of sin and listen to
- 7:04Jehovah. Think of this little rhyme.
- 7:07Choose not to act on wrong desires,
- 7:11but choose to do what Jehovah requires.
- 7:15I'll say it again. Choose not to act on
- 7:18wrong desires, but choose to do what
- 7:22Jehovah requires. Now, [snorts] let's
- 7:25have a look at our image. See what we
- 7:27can learn from this. So, here we have a
- 7:29sister.
- 7:31This is my interpretation of the image.
- 7:34So, we have a sister. She's no doubt
- 7:36drifted away. She's become inactive. We
- 7:39can see she's got a tattoo. At maybe at
- 7:41her lowest point, she's decided to go
- 7:44get a tattoo. She's involved in the
- 7:46world. But notice on the shelf there,
- 7:49still a love for Jehovah. She's got a
- 7:51Bible, some other spiritual food there.
- 7:55She might feel it's hopeless, but
- 7:57hopefully
- 7:59she's looking out thinking, I can I can
- 8:01do this. If I turn to Jehovah,
- 8:05he will help me. Choose not to act on
- 8:09wrong desires, but choose to do what
- 8:14Jehovah requires. Let's have a look at
- 8:16our our final verses
- 8:19and just see. We're going to focus on
- 8:21how loving Jehovah is. So Jehovah here
- 8:24says, "Whenever I speak about uprooting
- 8:26and pulling down and destroying a nation
- 8:29or a kingdom
- 8:31and that nation abandons its wickedness
- 8:33that I spoke against,
- 8:36I will also change my mind concerning
- 8:39the calamity that I intended to bring
- 8:42against it." So he's talking about the
- 8:45nation here, but this would apply also
- 8:47to individuals.
- 8:49So we can take hope. Jehovah's ready to
- 8:52help. ready to forgive, ready to bless.
- 8:56Notice in verse 8, it says, "Change my
- 8:58mind." And if you look at the footnote,
- 9:00it says, "Feel regret over."
- 9:04Now, the origin of the Hebrew verb here
- 9:06translated feel regret has the thought
- 9:09or the idea of breathing deeply, maybe a
- 9:12sigh
- 9:14like that. And it may indicate, scholars
- 9:18think it may indicate when Jehovah sees
- 9:21genuine remorse in a human heart, he
- 9:24figuratively
- 9:26breathes deeply like a sigh of relief.
- 9:29Not a sigh or a groan, but a like a a
- 9:32you're doing it. A a sigh of happiness,
- 9:35a sigh of rejoicing in the choice that
- 9:38has been made.
- 9:40Yes, it's true. If we choose sin as our
- 9:44ruler in our heart, it becomes a
- 9:47hopeless spiral. But we can stop that
- 9:50spiral with Jehovah's help. If we choose
- 9:53to listen to him, if we choose Christ,
- 9:57the law of the Christ, as the ruler in
- 10:00our heart, if we listen to Jehovah, let
- 10:04Christ rule in our hearts, we have the
- 10:07hope of full spiritual recovery.
- 10:10And we have the hope of Jehovah's
- 10:12blessing forever.
- 10:21Thanks brother asleep.
- 10:24Now we going to enjoy the next program
- 10:27the spiritual jam. Um the brother
- 10:33brother Wilson will handling this
- 10:35program. Thank you brother Wilson.
- 10:49Perhaps we could have uh two readers
- 10:51tonight. One for Jeremiah 18 and verse 6
- 10:57and the other for Jeremiah 1910 10 and
- 11:0211.
- 11:03We've got uh Sister
- 11:07Tammy for Jeremiah 18:6
- 11:11and Sister Hannah for 1910 and 111.
- 11:18>> Can I not do to you just as this potter
- 11:20did, oh house of Israel, declares
- 11:23Jehovah. Look, as the clay in the hand
- 11:25of the potter, so are you in my hand, oh
- 11:28house of Israel.
- 11:32Then break the flask before the eyes of
- 11:34the men who go with you and say to them,
- 11:37"This is what Jehovah of Army says."
- 11:40This is how I will break his these
- 11:42people in this city like someone who
- 11:44breaks a potter's vessel so that it can
- 11:47never be repaired and they will bury the
- 11:50dead in top until there is no more room
- 11:53to bury them.
- 11:56>> Both very nicely read. Thanks sisters.
- 11:59So our question based on these two
- 12:01verses, how is Jehovah
- 12:05the great potter?
- 12:07Thanks sister Cox.
- 12:12The relationship between a potter and
- 12:14clay illustrates Jehovah's sovereignty
- 12:16over both individuals and nations. Just
- 12:19as a potter shapes clay according to his
- 12:21purpose, um Jehovah, the great potter,
- 12:24guides and directs matters according to
- 12:26his perfect wisdom. And like clay,
- 12:28humans cannot rightly question the one
- 12:30who made them. And just as a clay pot
- 12:32can be broken, Jehovah can execute
- 12:34judgment on those who choose to do what
- 12:35is wrong.
- 12:38>> Very nice. And a sister limb.
- 12:43>> Jehovah is the great potter and humans
- 12:46are like clay in the hands of the
- 12:48potter. So just as it would be
- 12:51unthinkable for clay to challenge the
- 12:54one who molds it, humans have no right
- 12:57to contend with God. So just as a broken
- 13:00clay vessel cannot be restored, Jehovah
- 13:03has authority to bring destructive
- 13:06calamity upon a people in order to
- 13:09punish them for their wrongdoing.
- 13:12>> Yes. And finally, sister cried.
- 13:18This is nicely touched on Isaiah 45:9.
- 13:22Woe to the one who contends with his
- 13:24maker. Should the clay say to the
- 13:26potter, "What are you making?" Or should
- 13:28your work say, "He has no hands." We
- 13:31must be careful not to find faults with
- 13:33Jehovah's way of doing things. We need
- 13:35to realize our proper place and see how
- 13:37insignificant uh justification is
- 13:40compared with the vindication of
- 13:41Jehovah's name and sovereignty.
- 13:44>> Very nicely covered. Thanks very much,
- 13:46sisters. And our other question there,
- 13:50what spiritual gems from this week's
- 13:53Bible reading would you like to share?
- 13:57Thank you, Sister Simone.
- 14:04The last part of Jeremiah 19:4 says,
- 14:06"They have filled this place with blood
- 14:09of the innocent ones." An archaeological
- 14:12find in this ancient city really
- 14:14highlights why Jehovah said it was
- 14:16filled with innocent blood and
- 14:18pronounced this harsh calamity on them.
- 14:20In the 1970s a huge burial ground was
- 14:23discovered with the estimated 20,000
- 14:26urns [clears throat]
- 14:27some of which had two or three children
- 14:30inside. This enormous number is made
- 14:33even more shocking considering the
- 14:35reason for the sacrifice was to fulfill
- 14:38the vows the upper class parents made to
- 14:41Baal in exchange for wealth and
- 14:43influence. The depth of the depravity
- 14:46certainly warranted Jehovah's burning
- 14:48anger.
- 14:49>> Yes, you you wouldn't be able to hold
- 14:52back, would you? Uh we have a have
- 14:56Sister Ashley Lim on Zoom, please.
- 15:20How are we going brothers?
- 15:24Sorry, Sister Lim, we don't seem to be
- 15:26able to uh
- 15:29hear from you, but we'll try
- 15:32um just uh testing out our Zoom. Uh
- 15:36Sister Lenty Ben
- 15:41In Jeremiah 18:E1 15 um it's mentioned a
- 15:46talk about ancient part and the cross
- 15:49reference uh from Jeremiah 6:16 help us
- 15:52to understand that this refers to
- 15:54Jehovah's long established standards
- 15:57which today some people might see those
- 15:59standard as an old-fashioned
- 16:01inconvenient or unpopular so they choose
- 16:04other parts which is the back road just
- 16:07to follow trends to or avoid missing
- 16:09out. So those alternatives might look
- 16:12exciting uh at the beginning like a
- 16:14shortcut or temporary roads but they are
- 16:17not always safe. So Jehovah is our
- 16:20creators. He is all laws and principle.
- 16:23We know that it's never become outdated.
- 16:26They still provide the safest paths for
- 16:28those who follows them.
- 16:31>> Very good point. We'll try sister Ashley
- 16:34one more time.
- 16:38Um, a potter's work is very hands-on and
- 16:40personal. And before the clay is even
- 16:43placed on the wheel, the potter
- 16:44carefully washes uh washes it, removes
- 16:47impurities, um, needs it, and works on
- 16:49it with his own hands. Um, knowing how
- 16:51to handle each clay differently as he
- 16:53shapes with a purpose. And that reminds
- 16:55me that Jehovah has an intimate
- 16:57relationship with each of us. Um, and he
- 16:59sees our potential and patiently
- 17:01refineses us and stays close and
- 17:03personally shapes us into the person he
- 17:04knows we can become.
- 17:07very nicely uh
- 17:10described. Thanks very much sister
- 17:12Ashley and Sister Bizelli.
- 17:19>> 1915 says this is what what Jehovah army
- 17:23the God of Israel says here I am
- 17:26bringing on this city and all of them
- 17:29all the calamity they have spoken
- 17:31against him because they stubborn refuse
- 17:34to obey my words.
- 17:37Fil filing to obey is not different from
- 17:40the one practicing divination or using
- 17:43idols.
- 17:46>> Thanks very much, sister Vizenelli
- 17:50and our sister sitting next to sister
- 17:53Hannah.
- 17:56>> Uh in Jeremiah 18:110,
- 17:59uh we can see a great difference between
- 18:01Satan and Jehovah. Uh, Satan wants
- 18:03everyone to fit into the same mold
- 18:05regardless of who they are. While
- 18:07Jehovah on the other hand molds each
- 18:09person individually, taking into account
- 18:11our circumstances and qualities. Also,
- 18:14because he's perfect, he will not make
- 18:16any mistakes.
- 18:18>> Yeah, very nicely put. and sister
- 18:22Castro.
- 18:29>> The Israelites stubbornness was was
- 18:32shown by not following the
- 18:33representative of Jehovah in the person
- 18:35of Jeremiah. In 18:12, the Israelites
- 18:39said that they will walk after their own
- 18:40thoughts and will act according to the
- 18:43stubbornness of their wicked heart. And
- 18:45we don't want to follow their examples.
- 18:47Instead, we want to follow Jehovah's
- 18:49instruction through his representative
- 18:51here on earth and be submissive to them
- 18:53because we know that Jehovah is guiding
- 18:55them and that we have to fully trust in
- 18:57them because we know that it will save
- 18:59our lives and because we love Jehovah.
- 19:02That's why we always want to obey him.
- 19:05>> We do, don't we? Uh we'll have um
- 19:09brother uh Ray Finny on Zoom, please.
- 19:14Yes, in Jeremiah 18:4
- 19:19it mentions, "But the vessel that the
- 19:21potter was making with the clay was
- 19:23spoiled in his hand."
- 19:26So the potter reworked it into another
- 19:29vessel just as he saw fit. And if we
- 19:33look at the footnote there, it just
- 19:36says,
- 19:37"As it was right in his eyes
- 19:43of the potter to make," showing us
- 19:46clearly Jehovah has the power and the
- 19:51right to be able to do that. So the real
- 19:54question then was would Israel return to
- 19:59Jehovah or suffer the consequences as u
- 20:03Jeremiah was pointing out to them. Many
- 20:06examples of what would happen to them if
- 20:09they didn't go back to Jehovah.
- 20:12>> Yes. Thanks uh brother Ray and um sister
- 20:16Sarah
- 20:19>> 91 in verse 10. Jehovah told Jeremiah to
- 20:22buy an earthwear flask and then to break
- 20:25it in the front of the people. So
- 20:27instead of just telling Jeremiah as a
- 20:29lesson, Jehovah used the virtual
- 20:30illustration to touch both his mind and
- 20:32also his heart. This show me Jehovah is
- 20:35a loving teacher who teach in the ways
- 20:37that stay with us. So in same way today
- 20:40Jehovah continue to teach us through our
- 20:42publication. They have pictures, video
- 20:44and drama and the convention to help us
- 20:46to feel his qualities. We are indeed
- 20:49loved by our God. Thanks uh Sister
- 20:53Jasmine.
- 20:57In Jeremiah 19:5, Jehovah speaks of the
- 21:00terrible things that the people were
- 21:02doing for false worship. And one being
- 21:04where he said that they built the high
- 21:06places of Baal in order to burn their
- 21:09sons in the fire as whole burnt
- 21:10offerings to Baal. some but he said that
- 21:13it was something I had not commanded or
- 21:14spoken of and that had never even come
- 21:17into my heart. And we can feel how
- 21:19really hurt this act would have made
- 21:21Jehovah. And seeing how he feels about
- 21:23those things for me personally reminds
- 21:25me of what a loving God that we worship
- 21:28um contrary to what common beliefs are
- 21:29in religion today regarding hellfire um
- 21:32being a punishment from God. We can see
- 21:34by even how he speaks of such a
- 21:36disgusting act um that he would never do
- 21:39such a thing as a loving God and then
- 21:41being able to help others understand
- 21:43that truth about him can be really
- 21:44uplifting and encouraging for them too.
- 21:47>> Yes. And that's what we want to be. We
- 21:49want to be encouraging, uplifting, and
- 21:52humble so that we can be molded by our
- 21:55heavenly father. Sorry, brothers and
- 21:57sisters, but we're out of time. Thanks
- 22:00for everyone's comments.
- 22:08Thanks brother Andrew. Nicely done. Now
- 22:12that we going to enjoy next program the
- 22:15Bible reading the brother George is
- 22:19going to read um Jeremiah 19 chapter 19
- 22:23verse 1-1.
- 22:25Thank you brother George.
- 22:40This is what Jehovah said. Go and buy an
- 22:44earthenware flask from a potter. Take
- 22:47some of the elders of the people and
- 22:48some of the elders of the priests and go
- 22:51out to the valley of the son of Hinnim
- 22:53at the entrance of the gate of the
- 22:55poturds.
- 22:57and there proclaim the words I speak to
- 22:59you. You will say, "Hear the word of
- 23:02Jehovah, you kings of Judah and
- 23:05inhabitants of Jerusalem."
- 23:07This is what Jehovah of Armies, the God
- 23:10of Israel, says, "I am about to bring a
- 23:13calamity on this place, and the ears of
- 23:16anyone who hears about it will tingle.
- 23:19It is because they abandoned me and made
- 23:22this place unrecognizable.
- 23:24In it they are sacrificing to other gods
- 23:27whom they and their forefathers and the
- 23:29kings of Judah had not known. And they
- 23:32have filled this place with the blood of
- 23:34the innocent ones.
- 23:37They will build they built the high
- 23:39places of Baal in order to burn their
- 23:41sons in fire as whole burnt offerings to
- 23:44Baal. Something that I had not commanded
- 23:47or spoken of and that had never come
- 23:50into my heart.
- 23:52Therefore, the days are coming, declares
- 23:54Jehovah, when this place will no longer
- 23:57be called Tophath, or the valley of the
- 23:59sons of Hinnam, but the valley of the
- 24:03slaughter.
- 24:04I will thwart the plains of Judah and
- 24:07Jerusalem in this place, and I will make
- 24:09them fall by the sword before their
- 24:12enemies, and by the hand of those
- 24:13seeking to take their life.
- 24:16And I will give their dead bodies as
- 24:18food to the birds of the heavens and to
- 24:20the beasts of the earth. And I will make
- 24:23this city an object of horror and
- 24:25something to whistle at. Every last one
- 24:29passing by it will stare in horror and
- 24:31whistle over its plagues.
- 24:34And I will make them eat the flesh of
- 24:36their sons and daughters. And they will
- 24:38eat the flesh of his fellow man because
- 24:41of the siege and their desperation when
- 24:43they are hemmed in by their enemies. and
- 24:46those seeking to take their life.
- 24:49Then break the flask before their eyes
- 24:51of men and who go with you and say to
- 24:55them, "This is what Jehovah of Armies
- 24:57says. This is how I will break this
- 25:00people and this city like someone who
- 25:02breaks a potter's vessel so that it can
- 25:04never be repaired. And they will bury
- 25:07the dead in Toph until there is no more
- 25:10room to bury them.
- 25:18>> [sighs]
- 25:19>> Thank you, brother George. You find the
- 25:22reading. We really enjoy it. Um I really
- 25:26like your ple reading and we we can
- 25:30follow the when you're reading we can
- 25:32follow the all of the scriptures the
- 25:35meanings are really nice. Um you focused
- 25:39on
- 25:41the brusher the uh study five the
- 25:43accurate reading from the reading and
- 25:45the teaching brusher the point five that
- 25:49it said accurate reading helps keep the
- 25:52focused on job message
- 25:55exactly you did thank you so much your
- 25:58fine reading thank you for your efforts
- 26:01and we look forward to the next
- 26:03assignment thank you brother approach.
- 26:06Now,
- 26:08next program,
- 26:11apply yourself to the field ministry
- 26:14portion of the meeting.
- 26:16Start the conversation house to the
- 26:18house. This will be handled by sister
- 26:21Limai and Katie. She's going to offer
- 26:25Bible study. Let's have a look.
- 26:30>> Hi, it's nice to find you home today.
- 26:33Yeah, I'm just home with the kids for
- 26:34school holidays.
- 26:35>> Oh, of course. How are you enjoying
- 26:37them?
- 26:38>> That's good to be honest. Um, one of my
- 26:40kids has had a really tough term this
- 26:43year, so um she's experiencing some
- 26:46bullying at school
- 26:47>> and staying home for her is a relief.
- 26:50>> Oh, poor thing. That's rough. Kids can
- 26:52be so cruel.
- 26:53>> Oh, thanks. Yeah, it's causing her a lot
- 26:56of anxiety, actually.
- 26:57>> Yeah, I could imagine. Um, can I ask how
- 27:00you're all coping? I could I I imagine
- 27:03it affects all of you.
- 27:05>> Yeah. Um we're just trying to figure out
- 27:07what we can do.
- 27:08>> Um and we've [clears throat] come up
- 27:11with maybe homeschooling. That's
- 27:14something I'm seriously considering.
- 27:16>> Yeah, fair enough. I mean, I'm sure your
- 27:18child must feel like a whole heap of
- 27:20dread even at the thought of going back
- 27:22to school. But can I share something
- 27:25with you? It's something that I keep on
- 27:27hand um that's helped me in si similar
- 27:30situations especially when I'm feeling
- 27:32anxious and I kind of can't see any way
- 27:35out in my mind.
- 27:36>> Yeah, that that sounds good.
- 27:38>> Yeah, it's just this little verse I have
- 27:40here. I keep it on my phone. It reads um
- 27:44when anxieties overwhelmed me, you
- 27:47comforted me and soothed me. They make
- 27:50vicious attacks on the righteous one,
- 27:52but Jehovah will become a secure refuge
- 27:55for me.
- 27:56>> Is that from the Bible?
- 27:57>> Yeah, it is.
- 27:59>> I didn't really like I didn't come from
- 28:02a religious household. My parents aren't
- 28:04very spiritual people at all.
- 28:06>> Yeah, sure.
- 28:07>> Um, so I don't really think of the Bible
- 28:10as a self-help book for me personally.
- 28:13>> Yeah. You know, not many people do, but
- 28:15surprisingly, the Bible has a lot of
- 28:18beautiful and comforting verses just
- 28:19like this one.
- 28:21>> But it also has a lot of timeless
- 28:23principles that are beneficial no matter
- 28:26what era a person lives in um or even
- 28:29the challenges that they face.
- 28:31>> Okay. Well, the way things are going in
- 28:34the world at the moment, it does really
- 28:36make me wonder where things are headed
- 28:38and, you know, if there's more to life
- 28:40than just this.
- 28:42>> Yeah, true. I mean, is there anything in
- 28:44particular that you've ever thought
- 28:46about that you'd like to see change in
- 28:47the world?
- 28:48>> Uh, well, I guess cuz it's really
- 28:50personal for me at the moment.
- 28:52>> Um, just I'd like to see people treat
- 28:54each other a bit better.
- 28:56>> Um, you know, be kind no matter what
- 28:58their background or status is.
- 29:00>> Yeah, true. I mean, equality seems
- 29:02pretty absent these days. Um, but I
- 29:05actually have this brochure here with me
- 29:07today. Um it sort of touches on a
- 29:10variety of topics but this one here in
- 29:12particular is interesting under the
- 29:14chapter the Bible gives us hope. Um
- 29:17actually do you mind if you read just
- 29:18this first paragraph there?
- 29:20>> Okay. Uh so people around the world deal
- 29:23with problems that cause them to feel
- 29:25sadness, anxiety and even pain. Have you
- 29:28ever faced a situation that made you
- 29:30feel those things?
- 29:32>> Perhaps you were suffering because of an
- 29:34illness or because someone you love has
- 29:36died. You may ask yourself, will life
- 29:39ever get better? The Bible provides a
- 29:42reassuring answer to that question.
- 29:45>> That's pretty interesting stuff.
- 29:47>> Yeah. And just to give you a taste of
- 29:49how the Bible gives us hope, if we
- 29:52continue with this paragraph, I'll read
- 29:54this one. It says, [clears throat] "The
- 29:56Bible not only explains why the world is
- 29:59filled with problems, but also shares
- 30:01the good news that these problems are
- 30:03temporary and will soon be gone." The
- 30:06Bible promises can give you a future and
- 30:10a hope. These promises help us to cope
- 30:13with our present problems. Um, also to
- 30:16have a positive attitude and to find
- 30:18lasting happiness.
- 30:20>> Mhm.
- 30:22>> So, um,
- 30:24yeah, I do like the sound of that.
- 30:26Sorry. [laughter]
- 30:26>> Sorry.
- 30:28>> I was thinking
- 30:29>> Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:30>> Um, I do like the sound of that that,
- 30:31but I'm just a bit busy at the moment.
- 30:33So,
- 30:34>> yeah, fair enough. I mean maybe I can
- 30:36come back another time and we could go
- 30:37through this second paragraph um which
- 30:40asks what kind of future does the Bible
- 30:41describe. It touches on the point that
- 30:44you sort of raised about injustice which
- 30:47I think you'll um find quite relevant.
- 30:50Um but I can come back um and have
- 30:53another little chat with you if you like
- 30:55um and so I don't waste too much of your
- 30:57time. But you can keep this copy and
- 30:59I'll bring mine next time and we can go
- 31:01through it together if you like.
- 31:02>> Okay. Well, that sounds really good.
- 31:04Hopefully all of my kids will back to
- 31:06school next week. So that works for me.
- 31:08>> Cool.
- 31:12>> Thank you. Sisters Limai and Limle.
- 31:19What do you feel about these
- 31:20demonstrations?
- 31:22The sister Limi uh the focused on
- 31:26chapter three the uh lesson four point
- 31:30three from the love of people make the
- 31:32disciple busha the pointer three said do
- 31:36not be condescent avoiding giving the
- 31:39impression that you know everything.
- 31:42Sister Limai looks like know everything.
- 31:46No, not really. Very uh respectfully
- 31:50um handled this matter, isn't it? So she
- 31:55asking very gently and uh good example
- 31:58she said here can I share something with
- 32:01you that has helped me in similar
- 32:04situation rather than I know the exactly
- 32:08what is the problems I look at this
- 32:10Bible she said that so very gently
- 32:13handling and also I really like a very
- 32:17technical
- 32:18suggest offering Bible um study she
- 32:22didn't Hey, let's have a Bible study or
- 32:25discuss the Bible. But she offer what is
- 32:28the future and read and question and uh
- 32:33um mention about the Bible scriptures.
- 32:36It is already offered the Bible study
- 32:38indirectly. She did very well. Thank you
- 32:41so much Limai.
- 32:44Let's move on next program.
- 32:47Sister following of the house to house
- 32:50sister uh Virginia Bellarino and sister
- 32:54Debbie. Thank you.
- 32:57>> Hi Debbie. How are you? How is your
- 32:59family doing?
- 33:01>> Virginia, thank God my family are well.
- 33:04>> They're healthy and everything is good.
- 33:07Just lately things are becoming really
- 33:09hard just managing with this economy.
- 33:12you know, high cost of living, mortgage
- 33:14payments, school fees, after school
- 33:16activities, prices seems to be getting
- 33:19higher. It seems it's just really hard
- 33:21to balance everything.
- 33:23>> Certainly, it's getting harder for
- 33:26families, particularly with kids, when
- 33:28it's so many fees that you need to pay.
- 33:31And sometimes we feel that we're lost
- 33:34where how we do it. In in my case when
- 33:37that happens always I remember a a quote
- 33:41from the Bible
- 33:42>> in the Psalms 119 105 look how the Bible
- 33:47says your word is a lamp to my foot and
- 33:50a light for my path. What this text um
- 33:54compares the God's God's word with.
- 33:58>> Oh it says with a lamp and a light.
- 34:01>> Sorry I don't understand.
- 34:03>> Well I show you a picture.
- 34:05>> Sure. And with the picture, you're going
- 34:06to realize, look,
- 34:09what do you see here?
- 34:11>> Someone walking at night with a torch in
- 34:13his hand.
- 34:14>> H. So, we are people walking in a dark
- 34:18environment
- 34:20with many things that happen in our
- 34:22lives. And the Bible can be like that
- 34:24torch lighting our paths.
- 34:27>> Uh God is guiding us through the words
- 34:30uh of the Bible. Uh last week I left you
- 34:35with a tract. How do you view the Bible
- 34:39>> and if I ask you the question uh what is
- 34:42your point of view about the Bible? What
- 34:44do you think?
- 34:46>> Well, I have a Bible from my
- 34:48grandmother,
- 34:49>> but to be honest, I've never read it
- 34:50because I don't think I could understand
- 34:52it.
- 34:53>> You're not the only one. Many people is
- 34:56feel like that or think like that
- 34:58because they don't know it. If you never
- 35:00read it, you know it. don't know it. But
- 35:03you will be surprised uh when you start
- 35:06reading the Bible and the principles uh
- 35:09how the Bible can give us reliable
- 35:11answers to all the questions. For
- 35:12example, we were talking about uh can
- 35:15the Bible help us to manage money
- 35:18>> or do the Bible explain why we're living
- 35:20in a world that is getting worse and
- 35:22worse for even with money every time is
- 35:26getting worse. Do you think that the
- 35:28Bible could explain those things? I
- 35:31don't know, Virginia. To be honest, I've
- 35:32never thought of looking into the Bible
- 35:34for those answers.
- 35:36[gasps]
- 35:36>> Look, the Bible explain itself who is
- 35:40the origin of the wisdom that it has in
- 35:43the book of second Timothy 3:16. Do you
- 35:46want to read it?
- 35:48>> It says, "All scripture is inspired of
- 35:51God and beneficial for teaching, for
- 35:54reproving, for setting things straight."
- 35:57So who says they inspire the Bible?
- 36:01>> Is this inspired by God?
- 36:03>> Correct. So God wisdom and thoughts are
- 36:06in the Bible. Do you think that God can
- 36:09teach us how to have a better life?
- 36:12>> Well, he is God. So he should know
- 36:16better than you know ourselves.
- 36:18>> Exactly. So he could tell us better.
- 36:20That's an excellent thinking. But to be
- 36:24able to learn his way of thinking or
- 36:26what are his thoughts, we need to find
- 36:29and understand uh those thoughts and
- 36:32thinking in the Bible. So we need to
- 36:34read the Bible. For example, we were
- 36:36talking about money uh how to manage the
- 36:39money today and what the Bible says
- 36:41about it. So you will be surprised how a
- 36:45few Bible principles can help us a lot
- 36:47with management of the money. And I have
- 36:50an article in jw.org a website that I
- 36:54show you last week
- 36:56>> and shows four principles that can work
- 37:00really well with that. And if you want I
- 37:02can come back next week and we can share
- 37:04those four principles reading them from
- 37:06the Bible. What do you think about that?
- 37:08>> Well, sure, why not? I think it will be
- 37:11good for my family and I to see what the
- 37:13Bible has to say about this. We can talk
- 37:15next week.
- 37:16>> Yeah, next week I come back at the same
- 37:17time. What do you think? Perfect.
- 37:22>> Thank you sisters. Nicely done. The
- 37:26sister Virginia the you did the
- 37:29excellent demonstration. Thank you so
- 37:31much. This assignment applies the lesson
- 37:349.3
- 37:36from the love people brusher.
- 37:39It titled um subtit subheading the
- 37:42listen carefully. So Virginia you listen
- 37:46really carefully. How did she handle
- 37:49this? She the householder sister Debbie
- 37:53mentioned about worry about the paying
- 37:56mortgage and everything expensive to
- 37:59those things and you listen carefully
- 38:02and link to the Bible lesson to her real
- 38:06life so she can get the benefit. She
- 38:09feel that ah I can get a benefit from
- 38:11Bible lessons. So you linked very well
- 38:15and also do you clearly follow up from
- 38:17the uh previous visit. I like your
- 38:22skills. I said I brought um um a track
- 38:26here left over uh last week. So it is
- 38:30showing that you really interested for
- 38:33the household. Thank you so much. You're
- 38:35nicely done. Thank you. We look forward
- 38:38to your next assignment.
- 38:42All right. We have uh another student to
- 38:44talk
- 38:46um brother Jason Lynn.
- 38:49He will give talk the theme what does
- 38:52the Bible said about the free will.
- 38:55Thank you brother Steve uh Jason
- 39:12There's often a common idea of a
- 39:14predetermined path that many people
- 39:16believe in. Many argue that God has
- 39:19already fornown the actions and
- 39:20decisions of certain people and that
- 39:22their fate is already governed by
- 39:24predestination.
- 39:26The Bible itself can give us the proper
- 39:28answer to this notion. Firstly, we know
- 39:31that God has given free will, the
- 39:33ability as intelligent creatures to make
- 39:36decisions and choices to humans. We draw
- 39:40this idea from the first part of Genesis
- 39:431 26 where it says then God said let us
- 39:47make man in our image according to our
- 39:49likeness.
- 39:51This verse demonstrates that unlike
- 39:53animals which act mainly on instinct we
- 39:56resemble our creator in our capacity to
- 39:58freely choose our actions and thinking.
- 40:01This then ties into how Jehovah has
- 40:03established the system for us in that
- 40:05our choices directly lead to relevant
- 40:08consequences depending on us.
- 40:11This is accurately reflected in
- 40:13Deuteronomy 30 19 where it says, "I take
- 40:17the heavens and the earth as witnesses
- 40:19against you today that have put life and
- 40:22death before you, the blessing and the
- 40:24curse. And you must choose life so that
- 40:27you may live, you and your descendants.
- 40:30Utilizing free will is also a
- 40:32responsibility where in the verse it
- 40:35says that we have a choice between life
- 40:37and death. God has given us principles
- 40:40and his righteous standards to follow
- 40:42which he lovingly gives us the
- 40:44opportunity to benefit from instead of
- 40:46forcing us to do what he says. This can
- 40:49be inferred further from Isaiah 48:8
- 40:53where it says, "If only you would pay
- 40:56attention to my commandments, then your
- 40:58peace will become just like a river and
- 41:00your righteousness like the waves of the
- 41:02sea."
- 41:04What then of God being the master of all
- 41:06things? Is it not reasonable to assume
- 41:09that he can control and know the fates
- 41:11of people with his power and limit
- 41:13limitless wisdom?
- 41:15It is important to note that God does
- 41:18not use his power to control everything.
- 41:21This is shown in the scriptures from the
- 41:23first part of Isaiah 42:14
- 41:27where it says, "I have kept quiet for a
- 41:29long time. I remain silent and restrain
- 41:32myself."
- 41:34If the creator of mankind had indeed
- 41:36exercised his full power to forno all
- 41:39that history had seen since man's
- 41:41creation, then God would therefore be
- 41:43guilty of the full weight of the
- 41:44wickedness that happened after. However,
- 41:48we know that this runs contrary to
- 41:49Jehovah's nature as described in 1 John
- 41:534:8,
- 41:54which specifically states that God is
- 41:57love.
- 41:59God has given us the freedom even in our
- 42:01sinful state to make our own decisions
- 42:03which some use for righteousness and
- 42:06others for reprehensible things. From
- 42:08the verse of Isaiah however we know that
- 42:10God that Jehovah has remained silent and
- 42:13restrained himself until his purpose
- 42:16fulfills on earth which then will
- 42:18eliminate all stains of wickedness away
- 42:20from earth.
- 42:22As we have learned so far in this part,
- 42:24we are blessed to be able to enjoy the
- 42:26gift of the gift of free will as images
- 42:28of the free of the living God. We know
- 42:31that the freedom to make our own
- 42:32decisions also come with the
- 42:34responsibility of consequences which
- 42:36Jehovah has invited us to follow his
- 42:38commandments to benefit from instead of
- 42:40forcing us. Finally, we take comfort in
- 42:44knowing that we are not trapped in
- 42:45certain paths and that everyone who is
- 42:48willing to follow Jehovah is able to do
- 42:49so freely, which he has lovingly
- 42:52provided through the opportunity of free
- 42:54will and trusting us to follow his
- 42:56wisdom despite our sinful inclinations.
- 43:08Thank you, brother Jason.
- 43:12You did a great job. Nice to talk. Um
- 43:16you applies the study 20 effective
- 43:20illustrations.
- 43:21You mentioned about in the beginning the
- 43:24common exceptions everyone differently
- 43:27thinking about um the Bible free wills
- 43:31about the Bible truth. So he mentioned
- 43:34about it. So we can follow the what is
- 43:36the common area people thinking and what
- 43:40the Bible really thinking about
- 43:42mentioned about the Bible. So you did a
- 43:44good job that way and you used a simple
- 43:47and effective the contrast between human
- 43:50and animals which is very clear to
- 43:53understand. Thank you so much. And um I
- 43:57can see from you to you a great
- 44:00potential
- 44:01you uh become a very soon a public
- 44:05speakers.
- 44:07So
- 44:08reason for that I have a little
- 44:10suggestion for you. Uh when you the
- 44:13mention about the Bible uh we how about
- 44:16we um invite the people to open the
- 44:20Bible and pause a little bit to uh find
- 44:22the scriptures then read together a much
- 44:26much powerful please keep that in mind
- 44:29and also it is very small small
- 44:31suggestion but we look forward to your
- 44:34next assignment you did a great job
- 44:36Jason thank you all right um living as a
- 44:40Christians
- 44:41Let's move on the next portion of um
- 44:44meetings. We have chosen um song 38. He
- 44:49will make you strong. Let's uh sing song
- 44:52together. Our living as Christian
- 44:54portion. We will consider discussion
- 44:57entitled steps to spiritual recovery.
- 45:01This discussion will be handled by
- 45:04brother hop. Thank you.
- 45:28A Jehovah likens himself
- 45:32to a good shepherd
- 45:34who cares for his sheep
- 45:37and he searches for any who go astray.
- 45:42The treasure talk tonight, if you
- 45:44remember, assures us that spiritual
- 45:48recovery is not hopeless.
- 45:51It is possible.
- 45:53Many have left Jehovah.
- 45:57Still, they love him, but they don't
- 46:00know the way to return.
- 46:03Or they may feel unworthy.
- 46:06Perhaps they were overwhelmed by the
- 46:09anxieties of life or stumbled by the
- 46:13words and actions of a fellow believer.
- 46:16Or they may have been involved in a
- 46:18wrongdoing but are reluctant to ask for
- 46:22help.
- 46:25Whatever the case,
- 46:27Jehovah calls out to them, "Return to me
- 46:32and I will return to you."
- 46:35What a loving father Jehovah.
- 46:38Those dear brothers and sisters, they
- 46:40need to be assured that as Jehovah
- 46:43helped his people in in the past, he can
- 46:47help us today, especially those who are
- 46:50in need for spiritual help.
- 46:55The person who wants to return should
- 46:57not feel that he must resume Christian
- 47:01activities altogether.
- 47:04It's like a a person who just had an a
- 47:07medical operation. We don't expect him
- 47:10to resume his physical activities all
- 47:13together. Both of them they need time to
- 47:18recover gradually and build their
- 47:21physical or spiritual strength first
- 47:24then they can do all the other
- 47:27activities. So friends, how might the
- 47:30person resume his activity gradually?
- 47:34There are three points here. We invite
- 47:38you to give your comments but one at a
- 47:41time.
- 47:50George.
- 47:57So if we want to recover and return to
- 48:00Jehovah, then the first thing we should
- 48:02do is uh begin to pray to him and ask
- 48:05him for that help because it's by uh
- 48:07that help that Jehovah provides that
- 48:09will help us to return.
- 48:11>> Thank you very much. And that's what the
- 48:13invitation in first Peter 5:7.
- 48:17throw your burdens on Jehovah. Uh ask
- 48:22him for help. And what does he promise
- 48:25in Isaiah 40 verse 29? Can you open your
- 48:29Bibles and we can have a reader?
- 48:32Sister Maria Malik,
- 48:39do you not know? Have you not heard?
- 48:42Jehovah the creator of the ends of the
- 48:44earth is a god for all eternity. He
- 48:47never tires out or grows weary. His
- 48:50understanding is unsearchable. He gives
- 48:53power to the to the tide one and full
- 48:56might to those lacking strength. Thank
- 48:59you. So the power we need especially
- 49:02those who are spiritually sick they can
- 49:06get it from Jehovah. What's the next
- 49:08point
- 49:10or next step? Brother Dordan Dominic.
- 49:16So since that person would be weak
- 49:18spiritually, he'll need to uh the to
- 49:22turn to the Bible to uh pick up some
- 49:24spiritual spiritual strength. And he can
- 49:28do that by browsing jw.org
- 49:31or read a few uh verses from the Bible
- 49:34or even listening if you are Bible
- 49:37scripture playing uh on on on a digital
- 49:41device.
- 49:42>> Thank you very much. Well, certainly we
- 49:46all had some food today. That's why we
- 49:50are strong. We are here otherwise we
- 49:53cannot stand up. So spiritually we need
- 49:56spiritual food. And the last point uh
- 50:00based on Hebrew and if we can have that
- 50:02picture on the screen brothers
- 50:08what's the role of the Christian
- 50:10congregation meetings?
- 50:17Uh
- 50:22Sister Hamilton I forgot your first
- 50:24name.
- 50:28Try to attend a congregation meeting as
- 50:30soon as possible. This is how Jehovah
- 50:33provides encouragement and support.
- 50:36>> Thank you very much. And who can help in
- 50:39the Christian congregation? As you can
- 50:41see in the picture
- 50:43or on the screen
- 50:45here, there are two, four, six persons,
- 50:49but one is innate for spiritual support
- 50:55who can help.
- 51:00You
- 51:06might normally think, oh, the elders
- 51:08could help. But actually in that
- 51:10picture, everybody's helping. So all of
- 51:11us here in the congregation, we should
- 51:14be looking out for these ones. They're
- 51:16spiritually sick and so we want to try
- 51:18and help them on that road to recovery.
- 51:20>> Thank you very much. Let's watch now
- 51:23watch a video. I turned my life around.
- 51:26So what lesson did you learn from the
- 51:28video?
- 51:42Well, we learned that changes take time
- 51:45and there can be setbacks along the way.
- 51:48And finding out she was pregnant, it
- 51:50made her feel worthless. It was a
- 51:51setback, but as our brother lovingly
- 51:54pointed out, a child can be taught to
- 51:56love Jehovah. He turned the situation
- 51:59into something really beautiful and any
- 52:01one of us can fall but we can turn
- 52:04things around and recover and become
- 52:06beautiful in Jehovah's eyes again.
- 52:08>> Thank you very much sister Cox.
- 52:15>> We can see how someone returning will be
- 52:17trying to make big changes in their life
- 52:19to please Jehovah and might have deep
- 52:22feelings of regret or low selfworth. And
- 52:24this sister in the v video mentioned
- 52:26that she was feeling ashamed. And this
- 52:29is something that we can bear in mind if
- 52:30we know someone in that situation. I
- 52:33learned that we could really ease some
- 52:35of what they are going through
- 52:37especially um sorry by helping them to
- 52:40feel loved by Jehovah and valued by him.
- 52:43And then that's something that the
- 52:46brothers and sisters in the video did.
- 52:48They supported her and we could do the
- 52:50same.
- 52:51Thank you,
- 52:54brother Katupi.
- 52:57Brother John. Brother Katupi.
- 53:05Yeah. We see too the importance of
- 53:07prayer. Right at the very outset when
- 53:09she'd made that decision that uh she
- 53:12needed to make a change, she went to
- 53:14Jehovah in prayer. And then how quickly
- 53:17Jehovah responded to that prayer really
- 53:20indicates to us how Jehovah wants us to
- 53:23succeed. He wants to help us and he's
- 53:26not short-handed in providing the help.
- 53:29But all through her experience
- 53:31uh there were many that uh stepped in uh
- 53:34that Jehovah was able to use that helped
- 53:36her take the next step so that she could
- 53:40continue on that um that path of of
- 53:44really reconnecting with Jehovah and
- 53:46redeveloping that relationship with him.
- 53:49>> Thank you very much sister.
- 53:57her relative did not judge her. Instead,
- 53:59they invite her to visit the Bethl.
- 54:03>> What a beautiful beautiful positive uh
- 54:07points we can take from this video. And
- 54:09the last comment maybe we can cox
- 54:12please.
- 54:17We could see the importance of asking
- 54:19for help. She prayed to Jehovah for help
- 54:21to return and to turn her life around
- 54:23and he helped her. And then when it took
- 54:25a turn, she went to her uncle and auntie
- 54:27and they were spiritual people. They
- 54:29encouraged her to go to Bethl and she
- 54:31went there. She spoke to an elder and
- 54:32the elder shared a scripture with her
- 54:34and that scripture really hit her and
- 54:36really changed her thought and stopped
- 54:38her from making a terrible mistake. So
- 54:39we can see that Jehovah helped her the
- 54:41whole way but she put herself in a
- 54:43position to receive that help.
- 54:45>> Thank you very much. Lovely comments
- 54:48from you brothers, sisters. Certainly
- 54:50this experience proved that Jehovah is
- 54:54opening his hands wide to welcome and
- 54:58help and strengthen those who still love
- 55:01him and they want to come back and
- 55:04Jehovah is happy to uh welcome them.
- 55:07Also show that by our positive lovely
- 55:11expressions we can assist those ones to
- 55:15come back to the congregation and serve
- 55:17Jehovah again. Thank you.
- 55:26>> Thank you, brother Hub.
- 55:29Now time to congregation Bible study.
- 55:33This part will be conducted by brother
- 55:36Jerry Labraa. Thank you, brother Jerry.
- 55:55Friends, are you excited? You should be.
- 55:58We're starting a new publication
- 55:59tonight. And just the name of the
- 56:02publication just motivates us. It's walk
- 56:05courageously with God. We live in
- 56:08difficult times hard to deal with more
- 56:10than ever before. We need courage, don't
- 56:12we? So Jehovah lovingly has provided
- 56:14spiritual food at the proper time for us
- 56:17with this beautiful publication and
- 56:19tonight begins our journey through this
- 56:21publication.
- 56:22Tonight we're looking at a letter from
- 56:24the governing body and the introduction
- 56:27as well. So let's begin this uh
- 56:30beautiful night with his beautiful
- 56:32publication by reading a letter from the
- 56:35governing body. Let's invite brother
- 56:36Aras to read that for us tonight.
- 56:39Dear brothers and sisters, in his
- 56:41message to the congregation in Smyrna,
- 56:43Jesus said, "Do not be afraid of the
- 56:46things you're about to suffer." His
- 56:48encouragement not to give into fear was
- 56:52also meant for us who are living now in
- 56:54the Lord's day. These certainly are
- 56:56critical times hard to deal with and we
- 56:59are deeply moved to see God's people
- 57:01around the world keeping their integrity
- 57:03as they boldly face test of their faith
- 57:06and courage.
- 57:08How though can we make sure that we will
- 57:10remain steadfast refusing to shrink in
- 57:13fear? It [snorts] may not always be easy
- 57:17for we may face opposition even
- 57:19persecution.
- 57:21Still, we will always have a choice in
- 57:24the matter. Whether we are shy by nature
- 57:27or bold, we can choose to take a
- 57:29courageous stand for Jehovah and for
- 57:33what is right. What can help? God
- 57:36inspired words can help you to find
- 57:39courage. It is full of examples of
- 57:42courageous men and women. This book has
- 57:44been prepared to help us look closely at
- 57:47their example and reflect on them. As
- 57:50you prayerfully study such public Bible
- 57:53accounts, think about your own situation
- 57:55and the challenges you face right now or
- 57:58may face in the future. Consider how
- 58:01Jehovah can help you to be courageous.
- 58:04Also consider how the courage these men
- 58:07and women showed might embold you in the
- 58:10following ways. To make adjustments.
- 58:13When Jehovah rejected Saul and chose
- 58:15young David as the next king, Jonathan
- 58:17showed loyalty and courage and he
- 58:20wholeheartedly supported Jehovah's
- 58:22choice of David to stand up for
- 58:26righteous principles. Haniah, Mishael,
- 58:29and Asariah were ready to face death in
- 58:32a fiery furnace rather than compromise
- 58:35their faith by committing an act of
- 58:37idolatry to speak up about the truth.
- 58:41Think of Saul of Tarsus who told the
- 58:43truth about Jesus to the very people who
- 58:46were expecting him to help them
- 58:48persecute Jesus's followers. We pray
- 58:51that this publication will help you to
- 58:53grow in faith and courage. May Jehovah
- 58:56bless you as you help those in your
- 58:58family and in the congregation to stand
- 59:00up courageously in support of God's
- 59:03kingdom. your brothers, the governing
- 59:05body of Jehovah's Witnesses.
- 59:10>> The few questions you might ask to have
- 59:13a look at this letter. First one is
- 59:15God's inspired word is filled with
- 59:17examples of courageous men and women. So
- 59:20how can this help us today?
- 59:33Brother Steve Siman please
- 59:42paragraph mentions there that we can
- 59:45prayerfully study Bible accounts about
- 59:47these individuals and that's what this
- 59:49publication is going to help us to do as
- 59:50well think about our own situation and
- 59:53the challenges we face right now or may
- 59:55face in the future and consider how
- 59:57Jehovah can help you to be courageous.
- 1:00:00And I I like those points that came
- 1:00:02after, but I think you might even have a
- 1:00:03question on that.
- 1:00:05>> Thank you, brother Steve. Brother
- 1:00:08Crowder, please.
- 1:00:13>> Each one of these Bible men and women
- 1:00:14that we'll be considering through this
- 1:00:16study um experienced some form of
- 1:00:19persecution or tribulation in their in
- 1:00:22their lives in the period in which they
- 1:00:24lived. And uh it's no different today
- 1:00:27for us. We're living in the Lord's day.
- 1:00:28Critical times hard to deal with, which
- 1:00:30brings on a myriad of of challenges for
- 1:00:33us. So we'll be able to to look at these
- 1:00:36fine examples and that'll help us to to
- 1:00:38build courage.
- 1:00:40>> Very good. Thank you. And uh how does
- 1:00:42Jesus encouragement to the congregation
- 1:00:44in Smyrna uh not to be afraid apply to
- 1:00:47us today?
- 1:00:51Brother Gary Barneck, please.
- 1:00:58Well, the congregation in Smurf, of
- 1:01:00course, Jesus said, "Do not be afraid of
- 1:01:02the things you're about to suffer." And
- 1:01:04they were here around 2,000 years ago,
- 1:01:07but the book of Revelation was meant for
- 1:01:09the Lord's day, which is our day today.
- 1:01:12So we're able to also learn such things
- 1:01:16that uh was given to such to the
- 1:01:19congregation at at Smyrna because those
- 1:01:22things apply to us today and we need to
- 1:01:25be able to keep our integrity in the
- 1:01:27face of tests that our brothers did
- 1:01:292,000 years ago.
- 1:01:31>> That's right. Very good. Thank you. And
- 1:01:33what are the three uh bold points he's
- 1:01:37making there at the end of the letter?
- 1:01:39How can we
- 1:01:41encourage receive encouragement sister
- 1:01:45Virginia?
- 1:01:48>> The first one talks about how this can
- 1:01:50help uh help us learning about these
- 1:01:52examples can help us one to make
- 1:01:55adjustments in ourselves in our lives.
- 1:01:58And we see the example here when Jehovah
- 1:02:01rejected Saul and chose David the way
- 1:02:03that Jonathan reacted. He was loyal. He
- 1:02:08had courage. He supported Jehovah's
- 1:02:10choice of David. He always supported
- 1:02:12David and also he loved his father. So
- 1:02:15he's a wonderful example for us to make
- 1:02:18adjustments inside of ourselves.
- 1:02:19>> Excellent. Very good. Thank you. And uh
- 1:02:22next one, sister Lee, please.
- 1:02:27>> James 3:17 says that uh the wisdom from
- 1:02:31above is reasonable. So being uh
- 1:02:34reasonable means not always insisting on
- 1:02:37your own way. Instead you are willing to
- 1:02:40listen carefully to others and when
- 1:02:43appropriate gladly um given into what
- 1:02:47they prefer. So we learned from Jonathan
- 1:02:52uh that we should be reasonable that is
- 1:02:55be willing to make adjustment.
- 1:02:59>> Very good. Thank you. What's uh the next
- 1:03:03point there mentions courage can help us
- 1:03:05to what's the other one the brother
- 1:03:08Nibil
- 1:03:11will help us to speak up about the truth
- 1:03:14and uh the example of uh Saul or Paul uh
- 1:03:19he actually told the people or the man
- 1:03:23who asked him to persecute the
- 1:03:25Christians he just he just told them
- 1:03:28about Jesus and the salvation that
- 1:03:31through Jesus. So he was very courageous
- 1:03:34to do that.
- 1:03:35>> That's right. Very good. Thank you. And
- 1:03:38sister Christina Aera please.
- 1:03:41>> And also to stand up for righteous
- 1:03:44righteous principles and we have many
- 1:03:47examples in Hebrew 11:32-34 like Haniah,
- 1:03:51Michelle and Assaria.
- 1:03:53>> Excellent. So we have a beautiful uh
- 1:03:55publication to go through and mentions
- 1:03:58here we have to contemplate how the
- 1:04:00courage of these individuals might
- 1:04:02inspire us. That's what we have to look
- 1:04:04at how they can inspire us today. These
- 1:04:07beautiful examples. So let's now have a
- 1:04:09look at the introduction.
- 1:04:11Uh you can grow in courage. Let's ask
- 1:04:14brother Harris to read paragraphs 1 to
- 1:04:16three. Please
- 1:04:18>> get up.
- 1:04:19>> Let us go. Is it possible that those are
- 1:04:21the bravest words that any human has
- 1:04:24ever spoken? You might wonder how those
- 1:04:27words express bravery. We find the
- 1:04:30answer when we consider who spoke them
- 1:04:32and why. Jesus Christ spoke these words
- 1:04:36to his faithful followers. He said them
- 1:04:38before. In this case though, he the
- 1:04:42timing was crucial. He was in a hillside
- 1:04:45garden just outside the city of
- 1:04:47Jerusalem. It was late on that moonlight
- 1:04:50night and Jesus knew that an armed mob
- 1:04:53was approaching. [snorts] He knew what
- 1:04:56the mob intended to do to him. He was
- 1:04:58about to face the most difficult trial
- 1:05:00that any man has ever endured and he
- 1:05:03knew that he would face that danger
- 1:05:06alone. Jesus did not try to avoid the
- 1:05:09danger he was facing. Though he could
- 1:05:12have called on mighty angels to protect
- 1:05:14him, he never did. Rather, he simply
- 1:05:17said, "Get up. Let us go." Where was
- 1:05:21Jesus headed? Straight into danger,
- 1:05:24torment, and death. Why was he willing
- 1:05:27to do that? Because he loved his father
- 1:05:30and he loved his followers.
- 1:05:33Thank you. So, paragraph 1 to3, the
- 1:05:36question is, uh, what made Jesus' words,
- 1:05:38get up, let us go, so brave?
- 1:05:43Uh, Sister Jen Mlan, please.
- 1:05:47>> Well, they were brave because Jesus knew
- 1:05:49what was awaiting him. That soon he
- 1:05:52would be experiencing the greatest
- 1:05:53ordeal to be suffered by anyone. Yet, he
- 1:05:56courageously walked straight into it
- 1:05:58because of his great love and desire to
- 1:06:00carry out his father's will.
- 1:06:02>> That's right. Very good. Thank you. And
- 1:06:04brother Denzel,
- 1:06:07>> on that night when Jesus said these
- 1:06:09words, an angry mob was approaching and
- 1:06:12Jesus was scared. But he had the courage
- 1:06:15to say, "Get up. Let us go." Because he
- 1:06:18loved his followers and he loved his
- 1:06:20father.
- 1:06:23>> Very good. Thank you. Excellent. And
- 1:06:25sister Bizelli, please.
- 1:06:30>> Yeah. Jesus, he was alone. He fights an
- 1:06:34illegal and just trial. He being ridicul
- 1:06:38and agony death throughout it all is
- 1:06:44courage never file.
- 1:06:46>> That's right. Very good. Can we just
- 1:06:47look at the uh bring the artwork on the
- 1:06:49monitor? So what can we see in that?
- 1:06:52What's happening there? The the artwork
- 1:06:57because the artwork really actually
- 1:06:58helps us to visualize the setting there.
- 1:07:00So what can we see there? What's taking
- 1:07:02place?
- 1:07:05and Sister Elizabeth Haras, please.
- 1:07:10>> Well, Jesus just finished his prayer at
- 1:07:11the Garden of Gethsemane, and he's
- 1:07:14realized the mob has come. So, he's gone
- 1:07:15to wake up his apostles and told them,
- 1:07:17"Get up. Let us go." Cuz he knew this
- 1:07:20was his last night with them, and he
- 1:07:22wasn't going away to go to another town,
- 1:07:24but to walk to his death.
- 1:07:26>> That's right. Very good. Thank you. Now,
- 1:07:29does he look scared in that image there?
- 1:07:32Does he look scared?
- 1:07:35Brother Steve Nicholson,
- 1:07:41not at all. And maybe I'm reading too
- 1:07:43much into it, but it's like um we can
- 1:07:45now include ourselves in this. So Jesus
- 1:07:48is now the head of the congregation and
- 1:07:50he's continually inviting us, come on,
- 1:07:54keep going, let's let's do this
- 1:07:56together.
- 1:07:57>> Very good. Excellent.
- 1:08:00So um yeah so we can see it's really get
- 1:08:04a lot out of this image can't we? So we
- 1:08:06can see that Jesus was very brave,
- 1:08:08wasn't he, to face that mob because that
- 1:08:10mob they had, they were armed, weren't
- 1:08:12they? They weren't very happy. They were
- 1:08:14angry mob, but Jesus faced them. For
- 1:08:17what reason did Jesus face them? Was
- 1:08:18willing to said, "Let's let let us get
- 1:08:21up and go." For what reason? Sister
- 1:08:23Virginia,
- 1:08:26>> the reason is in John 14:31. It says,
- 1:08:30"For the world to know that I love the
- 1:08:33father. I'm doing just as the father has
- 1:08:35commanded me to do. Get up. Let's go
- 1:08:38from here. So he was saying how much he
- 1:08:42loved the father and he was willing to
- 1:08:44follow or to do all of that because he
- 1:08:48loved him. And in a way we should learn
- 1:08:51to do the same. If we um become um
- 1:08:55courageous people, we need to think
- 1:08:57about Jesus what he said because we love
- 1:08:59the father.
- 1:09:00>> Very good. So we can he's showing the
- 1:09:02example there of courage to us isn't he?
- 1:09:05Very good. So let's continue now with
- 1:09:06the next verses four to five please
- 1:09:09brother Aries.
- 1:09:10>> Without question Jesus Christ was the
- 1:09:12most courageous man who ever lived. Are
- 1:09:15you one of his followers? Then you too
- 1:09:17are courageous. True Christians must
- 1:09:20have courage. Today we live in trouble
- 1:09:23and dangerous times. So we need that
- 1:09:25quality more than ever. How can we
- 1:09:28define the kind of courage that Jesus
- 1:09:30showed? [snorts] True courage does not
- 1:09:33mean laughing at danger, taking needless
- 1:09:36risk or rushing head long into peril. It
- 1:09:40is not the daring or recklessness of
- 1:09:42those who love violence. Rather,
- 1:09:45Christians courage is a kind of inner
- 1:09:48strength.
- 1:09:48>> [snorts]
- 1:09:48>> It is the strength that enables us to go
- 1:09:51ahead and to do what we know is right in
- 1:09:53God's eyes no matter how hard or how
- 1:09:56frightening that may be.
- 1:09:59Thank you. So paragraph four and five
- 1:10:02question is what kind of courage did
- 1:10:05Jesus show and why do we need it?
- 1:10:08Brother Jeppi please.
- 1:10:12Jesus Christ was the most courageous man
- 1:10:16who ever lived. Today we live in a
- 1:10:20trouble and dangerous times. So we need
- 1:10:24that quality more than ever.
- 1:10:27>> Very good. Thank you. Brother Katrippy,
- 1:10:30please.
- 1:10:36>> Yeah. So, we're not talking about a
- 1:10:38cavalier um attitude towards danger like
- 1:10:42a re reckless approach to it, but rather
- 1:10:45this um demonstrates this inner strength
- 1:10:48that Jesus uh showed. He he had a very
- 1:10:52important um purpose to fulfill and it
- 1:10:56was something that he had to do. Nobody
- 1:10:58else could do this for him. Nobody could
- 1:11:00help him. it was totally on his shoulder
- 1:11:03and he uh took the full responsibility
- 1:11:06of that and so that doesn't come easy
- 1:11:09that takes inner strength to be able to
- 1:11:12do that. So what a beautiful example for
- 1:11:15for us to look to someone like Christ
- 1:11:17who has demonstrated that this is
- 1:11:19possible.
- 1:11:21>> That's right. Very good. Thank you. And
- 1:11:22brother Gal in the back please.
- 1:11:29Um, often times we think of faith as
- 1:11:31hope and trust, but deeper down faith
- 1:11:36really is alignment to Jehovah's will.
- 1:11:38And to do to align yourself to Jehovah's
- 1:11:41will irrespective of the consequences
- 1:11:43takes real courage as we see Jesus
- 1:11:46demonstrate.
- 1:11:47>> Very good. Thank you. And brother
- 1:11:50Crowder, please.
- 1:11:55So we know what Jesus was up against
- 1:11:57was, you know, representatives of the
- 1:11:59Roman Empire, the most powerful force in
- 1:12:02the world at that time and the Jewish
- 1:12:04Sanhedrin. Uh so these were and the evil
- 1:12:08wicked forces uh that Satan was
- 1:12:10controlling at the time as well. So even
- 1:12:13though these things were stack stacked
- 1:12:15up against him, he had that inner
- 1:12:16resolve because he loved Jehovah. And so
- 1:12:19that example is good for us today
- 1:12:20because we don't know what lies ahead of
- 1:12:22us with the great tribulation
- 1:12:24approaching. Each one of us will face
- 1:12:26our own challenges, but we can always
- 1:12:28look to that example of Jesus and have
- 1:12:31that same inner resolve so that we can
- 1:12:33have the courage that we need at the
- 1:12:35time we need it.
- 1:12:36>> That's right. Very good. Thank you. And
- 1:12:38brother Steve Simone, please.
- 1:12:44connects nicely too with the weekend's
- 1:12:46watchtowwer that we just did because it
- 1:12:49talks about the way that we have this or
- 1:12:51display this courage is because we do
- 1:12:53what we know is right in God's eyes. So
- 1:12:55we wouldn't know what to do what was
- 1:12:57right in God's eyes if we weren't
- 1:12:58meditating and training our conscience
- 1:13:00to do that. So what an important step
- 1:13:03that leads up to us being able to
- 1:13:04display courage is to know the way
- 1:13:06Jehovah thinks and then to live our
- 1:13:08lives in harmony with that.
- 1:13:10>> Excellent point. Very good. Thank you.
- 1:13:13So uh let's continue now with next
- 1:13:15section. You can imitate Jesus' courage.
- 1:13:18Let's listen to paragraph six.
- 1:13:20>> Perhaps you wonder whether you can be
- 1:13:22courageous under test as Jesus was. If
- 1:13:25so, remember this. Jesus is reasonable
- 1:13:29like his father. Jesus never expects
- 1:13:31more from us than we can handle. For
- 1:13:33example, on that night in the garden of
- 1:13:36Gethsemane, Jesus asked his apostles to
- 1:13:39stay awake with him and they let him
- 1:13:41down. Yet he kindly said to them, "The
- 1:13:44spirit of course is eager, but the flesh
- 1:13:47is weak. He understood their weaknesses,
- 1:13:50and he understands yours as well."
- 1:13:54Thank you. So, paragraph six. If we feel
- 1:13:57that we lack courage, how might Jesus
- 1:13:59example comfort us?
- 1:14:03Sister Jasmine Cox, please.
- 1:14:07Well, one powerful lesson from Jesus is
- 1:14:09when he asked his apostles to stay awake
- 1:14:12with him. Um, but they didn't do so. In
- 1:14:14fact, many times they fell asleep, but
- 1:14:16he kindly and patiently had a very
- 1:14:18balanced and reasonable view of their
- 1:14:20limitations. He said, "The spirit of
- 1:14:22course is eager, but the flesh is weak."
- 1:14:25So, he understood that while they may
- 1:14:26have had the best of intentions and
- 1:14:28enthusiasm, their flesh is weak. And the
- 1:14:30same is true of us. While we don't
- 1:14:32misuse this reasonleness, we do know
- 1:14:34that when we have a genuine desire to do
- 1:14:37what's right and we show courage,
- 1:14:38Jehovah and his son, they never expect
- 1:14:40more of us than we can give.
- 1:14:42>> Very good. Thank you, Sister
- 1:14:45Yangin.
- 1:14:48>> Jesus compos us because he understand
- 1:14:51our wicked weakness.
- 1:14:54So as Psalm 103:14 reminds us, Jeba
- 1:14:58knows that we are dust and Jesus reflect
- 1:15:00the same compassion. So therefore
- 1:15:04instead of criticizing uh his apostles
- 1:15:07for failing, he acknowledged that the
- 1:15:10spirit is eager but the flesh is weak.
- 1:15:12So we if we ever feel we lack courage,
- 1:15:16we know Jesus understands and help us if
- 1:15:19he rely on Jehovah.
- 1:15:21>> Very good. And thank you for including
- 1:15:23that scripture. All right, let's
- 1:15:24continue now with paragraph 7 and 8,
- 1:15:27please, brother George.
- 1:15:28>> Jesus also expressed confidence in his
- 1:15:30followers. Imagine the reassuring tone
- 1:15:33of his voice when he told them, "Take
- 1:15:35courage. I have conquered the world." He
- 1:15:38knew that they could follow his in his
- 1:15:41footsteps and they did. Jesus used the
- 1:15:44expression take courage on a number of
- 1:15:46occasion. He said it to the paralytic
- 1:15:49before assuring him that his sins were
- 1:15:51forgiven. He said it to a woman after
- 1:15:53healing her grievous illness. He said it
- 1:15:56to his disciples, reassuring them when
- 1:15:58they were frightened during a windstorm.
- 1:16:01And from heaven, he said the same things
- 1:16:04to the Apostle Paul after an assembly of
- 1:16:06angry judges threatened to tear him
- 1:16:09apart. In a sense, your courageous king
- 1:16:13is saying the same thing to you now. He
- 1:16:16wants you to take courage and he knows
- 1:16:18you can. His father Jehovah has given
- 1:16:22you exactly what you need in order to do
- 1:16:25so. Very good. Thank you. Paragraph 78.
- 1:16:29Uh the question is how has Jesus
- 1:16:31confidently reassured his followers?
- 1:16:38Uh [sighs] brother Nabil Hab please.
- 1:16:43Well, the expression he mentioned to his
- 1:16:46uh followers, his disciples, take
- 1:16:49courage, I have conquered the world,
- 1:16:52that showed that he had confidence in
- 1:16:54his followers that they will follow him
- 1:16:57and they will be successful and they
- 1:17:00did. The records of the Bible shows that
- 1:17:03they faithfully were willing to die for
- 1:17:07Jesus.
- 1:17:08>> That's right. Very good. Thank you.
- 1:17:11And um he used that phrase a few times,
- 1:17:14didn't he? What's another example that
- 1:17:17one time that he used it that we could
- 1:17:20mention?
- 1:17:27Hey, brother Gary Baron, please.
- 1:17:33>> Well, he used it uh at the time of a few
- 1:17:35different miracles. One was when he
- 1:17:37healed a paralytic, he used the
- 1:17:39expression also
- 1:17:41um when he was able to heal a woman who
- 1:17:44had been uh had illness for over 12
- 1:17:46years, he used the expression to take
- 1:17:49courage. He says, "Your faith has made
- 1:17:51you well." Uh and even one time when the
- 1:17:53disciples was frightened from a
- 1:17:55windstorm and he used the expression
- 1:17:57there as well. So, uh, he wasn't always
- 1:18:01using it when it seemed like everyone
- 1:18:05was looking death in the face, but
- 1:18:08courage was going to be needed for
- 1:18:09certain things.
- 1:18:10>> Very good. We see you had good results,
- 1:18:12too, didn't it? Using that word, take
- 1:18:14courage. Very good. Excellent. So, let's
- 1:18:16continue now with the next subheading.
- 1:18:18Says, "How how can the Bible help us to
- 1:18:21grow in courage?" Lovingly, Jehovah
- 1:18:25filled his inspired word with examples
- 1:18:27that can help us to grow in courage. In
- 1:18:30it, we find the true stories of many men
- 1:18:32and women, young and old, from all walks
- 1:18:35of life. All of them surely had feelings
- 1:18:38like ours, just as the prophet Elijah
- 1:18:40did. Like all of us, they were imperfect
- 1:18:44humans with frail, sorry, frail
- 1:18:47frailties, limitations, and faults. And
- 1:18:50like us, they faced all kinds of
- 1:18:52obstacles, challenges, and even dangers.
- 1:18:56Yet, they conquered them much as Jesus
- 1:18:58did. They took courage and left behind
- 1:19:01vivid examples that continue to
- 1:19:03encourage us.
- 1:19:05>> Thank you. So, paragraph nine. How can
- 1:19:08God's word encourage us? Sister
- 1:19:13Zat, please.
- 1:19:16God's word. The Bible is filled with
- 1:19:18examples that can help us to be
- 1:19:19courageous. So we read about the young
- 1:19:22and the old from all walks of life who
- 1:19:24had feelings like ours. They were not
- 1:19:26perfect, had many falls, their faults.
- 1:19:29They faced challenges and dangers like
- 1:19:32us and they were courageous and
- 1:19:34conquered them just like Jesus. We can
- 1:19:36do the same by following their examples.
- 1:19:38>> Excellent. Very good. Excellent. So
- 1:19:42let's uh let's now continue with
- 1:19:44paragraphs 10 11 please. Brother George,
- 1:19:48this book is designed to help you grow
- 1:19:50in courage. In the 54 chapters that
- 1:19:53follow, you will see how Jehovah helped
- 1:19:55imperfect humans like you to gain the
- 1:19:57courage they needed. So read each
- 1:20:00narrative, then dig deeper and study the
- 1:20:02backgrounds of each of the characters.
- 1:20:05As you do, you will get to know these
- 1:20:07men and women better and better. May
- 1:20:10their examples help you become more
- 1:20:12courageous so that you will endure these
- 1:20:15difficult last days. Day by day, let us
- 1:20:18remember Jehovah's reassurance. I will
- 1:20:21never leave you and I will never abandon
- 1:20:24you. As Paul noted, those words can help
- 1:20:27us to be of good courage and say,
- 1:20:30Jehovah is my helper. I will not be
- 1:20:33afraid.
- 1:20:35>> Thank you, brother George, for your fine
- 1:20:36reading for us tonight. So now paragraph
- 1:20:39uh 10 11 question is u how can this book
- 1:20:44help you to do sorry how can this book
- 1:20:46help you to do so sorry what can this
- 1:20:50book help you to do and how can you use
- 1:20:53it
- 1:20:56um
- 1:21:05sister um Amelia Cox
- 1:21:09Well, this book is designed to help us
- 1:21:11to delve into many different Bible
- 1:21:13characters and look at their examples of
- 1:21:15courage so we can use this book to
- 1:21:18meditate on such ones and learn how we
- 1:21:20can be courageous just as they were.
- 1:21:22>> Very good. Thank you. Excellent. That's
- 1:21:24a point, isn't it? And brother George
- 1:21:26Aras
- 1:21:29>> um today um there are maybe many books
- 1:21:32that have been written on survival
- 1:21:34guides. a book that uh give you tips and
- 1:21:37skills on how you might be able to
- 1:21:39survive uh certain events that might
- 1:21:41take place. Uh Jehovah has designed this
- 1:21:44book with uh 54 chapters that are going
- 1:21:47to allow us to look into how some of our
- 1:21:51brothers and and sisters of earlier time
- 1:21:53were able to survive their situations
- 1:21:56and their time. So these are examples
- 1:21:58that allow us to uh meditate on, dig
- 1:22:01deep into them so that we too can be
- 1:22:03courageous like they were.
- 1:22:05>> That's right. Very good. Thank you. And
- 1:22:07uh says I see also the box how to use
- 1:22:10this publication for personal study and
- 1:22:13family worship. So um how could we use
- 1:22:16this you think to do that?
- 1:22:23Hey, brother Steve Nicholson, please.
- 1:22:29>> Yeah, I was thinking about this. I
- 1:22:30thought, "Oh, man. This is a lot of
- 1:22:31work, but um just on a personal level,
- 1:22:35and it may help others." I thought I'm
- 1:22:38just going to adjust my Bible reading
- 1:22:39schedule for the week. So, currently
- 1:22:41it's the congregation reading and a bit
- 1:22:44of my personal one. I'll just shorten my
- 1:22:46personal one and now include the
- 1:22:49chapters that we do each week and dig
- 1:22:51into these so that that adjustment each
- 1:22:54week I'll be able to include uh for the
- 1:22:57week of the this study and that will
- 1:22:59deepen my appreciation and build my
- 1:23:01courage.
- 1:23:02>> That's right. Very good. And brother
- 1:23:04Katr please.
- 1:23:08>> Yes. So rather than just covering
- 1:23:10material, this is really providing a
- 1:23:13structured approach. So we're actually
- 1:23:16uh looking at the material with purpose
- 1:23:18and uh giving us some methodology so
- 1:23:20that we can uh teach ourselves how to
- 1:23:24study it well so that we can really
- 1:23:26benefit both we and our families from
- 1:23:29what Jehovah's provided here.
- 1:23:31>> That's it. Very good. Excellent. Thank
- 1:23:33you very much for your fine comments,
- 1:23:34friends. So we continue to enjoy this
- 1:23:37beautiful publication and tonight it's
- 1:23:38only the first night but there's
- 1:23:40beautiful uh more studies to come. I'm
- 1:23:42sure we'll enjoy them and get encouraged
- 1:23:43by this. Thank you.
- 1:23:55Thank you, brother Jerry.
- 1:23:58Brothers and sisters,
- 1:24:00what can we take away from today
- 1:24:03meeting?
- 1:24:05What have we learned?
- 1:24:08Would you like to make the comments? any
- 1:24:11thoughts to sharing with others?
- 1:24:17Thank you, brother
- 1:24:20Felmon in the back.
- 1:24:23Yeah, I really enjoyed the video we
- 1:24:25watched uh tonight. Uh was the sister,
- 1:24:28she wasn't expecting she'll be pregnant
- 1:24:30while she was trying to come back to the
- 1:24:32truth. Uh so her way back to the truth
- 1:24:35was different from what she imagined.
- 1:24:37And that goes nicely with our Bible
- 1:24:39reading in Jeremiah 18 about the
- 1:24:42illustration of the potter. Um when the
- 1:24:44festival was spoiled, the potter didn't
- 1:24:46try to make exactly the way it was
- 1:24:48before. Instead, he made a different a
- 1:24:51different vessel that was useful. So
- 1:24:53same after we make serious mistake, we
- 1:24:55might feel everything will never be the
- 1:24:56same, which is true. Uh because we have
- 1:24:59to live with the consequences of our
- 1:25:02mistakes. But even though we can be the
- 1:25:04person we used to be before or how we
- 1:25:06imagine to be um if we let Jova to shape
- 1:25:09us, he will make us precious and useful
- 1:25:10to him. Thank you so much. Beautiful
- 1:25:13thought.
- 1:25:19One more sister. [laughter]
- 1:25:21Thank you sister Lee in the front.
- 1:25:26uh from treasures from God's word. Jesus
- 1:25:30kept encouraging the rebellious people
- 1:25:33of Judah to come back. Uh we learned
- 1:25:36that we should never give up on our
- 1:25:39loved ones who are not in the true even
- 1:25:42in our hearts.
- 1:25:44>> Yeah. Exactly. They are not make the
- 1:25:46final decisions. Isn't it? Yeah. So
- 1:25:50where we learned we were the reminded
- 1:25:52the spiritual recovery is never
- 1:25:55hopeless.
- 1:25:57No one is ever too far gone if they
- 1:26:00willing to come back.
- 1:26:03How about um when we helping others we
- 1:26:07can imitate the Jehovah's patient and
- 1:26:10love
- 1:26:12and we imperfect person brothers and
- 1:26:15sisters. So we need the job's merciful
- 1:26:18care but we are not
- 1:26:22weak.
- 1:26:23We have a spiritually courage.
- 1:26:27Do you remember what Jesus said?
- 1:26:30Get up spiritually.
- 1:26:34Let us go.
- 1:26:36Jesus invite all of us here. Please
- 1:26:39remember that. [gasps]
- 1:26:41All right. All of our program is done.
- 1:26:46Thank you so much your uh participation
- 1:26:48and comment and
- 1:26:53we will now conclude our meeting with a
- 1:26:55song number 153 titled Give Me Courage.
- 1:27:01After sing a song, brother Michael Cox
- 1:27:04senior will offer a concentrating prayer
- 1:27:07for us.
- 1:27:08>> Hello everybody. In this video, we're
- 1:27:11going to be considering the treasures
- 1:27:12from God's word talk for the week of
- 1:27:15January 15 to 21, 2024.
- 1:27:19And this talk is entitled
- 1:27:22why you can trust God's promise of
- 1:27:26everlasting life.
- 1:27:28And the last watchtower study is related
- 1:27:31with this theme with this subject.
- 1:27:34And one day when Jesus was
- 1:27:40on earth, the Bible says that uh
- 1:27:45a young one, a young government
- 1:27:49was asking Jesus this question. What
- 1:27:53good must I do to gain everlasting life?
- 1:27:59That's very common that people they
- 1:28:03don't want to die. They want to live
- 1:28:05forever including rich people of course.
- 1:28:10And that was the question what do what
- 1:28:14good must I do to gain everlasting life?
- 1:28:21And it's a fact that the Jews they
- 1:28:26believe firmly believe that the
- 1:28:28everlasting life is possible but only
- 1:28:31through God.
- 1:28:35And Jesus said in answer
- 1:28:40he was
- 1:28:42checking
- 1:28:45if if this young one was obeying
- 1:28:49observing the ten commandments the law
- 1:28:52of God and he said he was observing
- 1:28:57he's been observing that law of God
- 1:29:02but actually he said I have kept all
- 1:29:05this, what am I still lacking?
- 1:29:09And Jesus said, if you want to be
- 1:29:12perfect, go sell your belongings and
- 1:29:15give to the poor, and you'll have
- 1:29:18treasure in heaven and come be my
- 1:29:22follower."
- 1:29:24But you know what? What's his reaction?
- 1:29:29When the young man heard this, he went
- 1:29:32away grieved
- 1:29:35for he had many possessions.
- 1:29:40So that's a fact. The promise of
- 1:29:43everlasting life is there is available
- 1:29:46until now. But many people they just
- 1:29:49want a something like uh
- 1:29:55simple
- 1:29:57recipe
- 1:29:58and
- 1:30:01they don't want to observe the treatment
- 1:30:04and
- 1:30:06that's the case of this young one. And
- 1:30:10we know that Jehovah himself lives
- 1:30:13forever. That's why Job 36
- 1:30:18verse 26 says yes God is greater than we
- 1:30:21can know the number of his years is
- 1:30:24beyond the comprehension
- 1:30:27and
- 1:30:30the Bible teach us that God exists from
- 1:30:33everlasting to everlasting.
- 1:30:36In other words, God know God had no
- 1:30:40beginning and will have no end.
- 1:30:44From a human point of view, this is un
- 1:30:48this is hard to understand.
- 1:30:52On the other hand, God promises
- 1:30:55God promise us everlasting life if we
- 1:30:59truly come to know him. Like the Bible
- 1:31:02says in John 17:3,
- 1:31:06"And how reliable could such a promise
- 1:31:10be if God himself didn't live forever?"
- 1:31:14And that's that's the key. Only the king
- 1:31:18of the eternity could fulfill such a
- 1:31:21promise because
- 1:31:24he is the source of life.
- 1:31:30Then in Job 36 27 and 28
- 1:31:36the scripture says he draws up the drops
- 1:31:39of water. They condense into rain from
- 1:31:43his mist.
- 1:31:44Then the clouds pour it down. They
- 1:31:48shower down upon mankind.
- 1:31:52And Jehovah has the wisdom
- 1:31:57and power to sustain life.
- 1:32:01If we think about water in liquid form
- 1:32:06exist on earth because our planet is
- 1:32:09located at a perfect distance from the
- 1:32:12sun.
- 1:32:14Just think for a moment. If it were just
- 1:32:16a little closer, all the water would
- 1:32:20boil off, leaving a hot lifeless rock.
- 1:32:27But if the la if the air would just
- 1:32:31little farther from the sun, all the
- 1:32:34water would freeze, turning the earth
- 1:32:38into a giant ball of ice.
- 1:32:41But who put the sun at the proper
- 1:32:46distance of the earth? Of course,
- 1:32:50Jehovah. Because Jehovah placed the
- 1:32:53earth at this ideal ideal location. The
- 1:32:58earth's water cycle can sustain life.
- 1:33:03>> [snorts]
- 1:33:03>> The sun heats water in the oceans and on
- 1:33:07the earth's surface and evaporates the
- 1:33:10water to forms to form clouds.
- 1:33:15But who makes this possible? Only our
- 1:33:20great maker, our great creator Jehovah.
- 1:33:28So it's really important to reflect in
- 1:33:31these facts.
- 1:33:33Strong faith in God's promise of
- 1:33:36everlasting life acts as a stabilizing
- 1:33:40force in our life.
- 1:33:42That's what the Bible says in Hebrews
- 1:33:446:19. We have this hope as an anchor for
- 1:33:48the soul both sure and firm and it
- 1:33:52enters in within the car in.
- 1:33:57So
- 1:33:59our hope of everlasting life is like a
- 1:34:02precious gift from God. We look forward
- 1:34:06to a wonderful future. one that we can s
- 1:34:10be certain will happen
- 1:34:14in acts as our anchor stabilizing us so
- 1:34:19that we can endure trials
- 1:34:22withstand persecution and even face
- 1:34:25death
- 1:34:28and it's really important to have with
- 1:34:31us this hope this is not just an
- 1:34:34intellectual matter someone many people
- 1:34:36they can read and understand this
- 1:34:39promise, but they don't believe that's
- 1:34:43going to happen
- 1:34:46because they don't have faith at all in
- 1:34:49this promise.
- 1:34:51And
- 1:34:52if we understand this promise, that's
- 1:34:55the first step. But then the next step
- 1:34:57is believe firmly believe in our mind,
- 1:35:01in our heart that Jehovah is going to
- 1:35:04fulfill his promise.
- 1:35:08So friends, that's a wrap for today's
- 1:35:10video. Thanks for visiting. Thanks for
- 1:35:13your time. We hope you have a wonderful
- 1:35:16day and we hope to see you in the next
- 1:35:19broadcast. So be safe, have a lovely day
- 1:35:21and see you next time.
