Full transcript
- 0:04Sorry guys, he left.
- 0:07>> [gasps]
- 0:08>> Just kidding. Okay.
- 0:10If we could put together a warm Seeker
- 0:13Summit welcome for the one and only
- 0:17Justin Posey.
- 0:19>> [cheering]
- 0:29[cheering]
- 0:30>> Why don't you have a seat? Hi friend.
- 0:38Hey JP, how you doing?
- 0:40I'm doing good.
- 0:41I'm glad to hear it.
- 0:42>> It's a good day.
- 0:43Are you tired yet?
- 0:45A little bit. A little bit?
- 0:47That means you guys have a better chance
- 0:48of getting real clues.
- 0:50That's what I was hoping for.
- 0:53Uh we have Howard grabbing us a book
- 0:56just in case we need it. So, he may just
- 0:57run up here and hand it to us at any
- 0:59moment. Is that your water?
- 1:01It is.
- 1:02Thank goodness. Okay.
- 1:05I think that the best part of not the
- 1:08best part, there's so many best parts,
- 1:09but one of the most unique and coolest
- 1:12parts of this event was
- 1:14the Q&A with the votes.
- 1:17So now, oh look at that, the delivery
- 1:19system is here.
- 1:21Uh so now, we're going to start
- 1:23with the number one requested question
- 1:26from everybody here with the most ups,
- 1:29which means people wanted it.
- 1:31Has anyone
- 1:34located or correctly identified
- 1:37the bride?
- 1:40I'll answer this, but before I do,
- 1:41there's
- 1:43actually somebody I want to wish happy
- 1:44birthday to. Hayden, if you're out
- 1:46there, Hayden.
- 1:50Happy birthday to you.
- 1:54You sure you don't want to sing?
- 1:55I mean, I'll stop. I'll pause.
- 1:56>> people to leave early.
- 1:58Um
- 2:00has anyone correctly identified
- 2:04>> Has anyone located or correctly
- 2:07identified the bride?
- 2:14Yes.
- 2:16Oh man, don't you guys wish you'd added
- 2:18a little bit to that so I could do a
- 2:19follow-up?
- 2:24Here's the follow-up. Who? No, just
- 2:25kidding. Um
- 2:28I agreed to not ask follow-ups, but
- 2:30maybe at the end. You know, he's known
- 2:31for being a little uncanny.
- 2:33The second most asked question was, does
- 2:36timing have anything to do with finding
- 2:38the treasure? For example,
- 2:41do you have to be at a specific spot at
- 2:44a specific time of day during any point
- 2:48following the poem in order to find the
- 2:51treasure? 20 people would like to know.
- 2:54Okay, one more time.
- 2:56Does timing have anything to do with
- 2:59finding the treasure?
- 3:00For example,
- 3:02do you have to be at a specific spot at
- 3:05a specific time of day during any point
- 3:09following the poem in order to find the
- 3:11treasure?
- 3:13That's an oddly specific question. It
- 3:16seems very very specific to me, too.
- 3:19Uh
- 3:20what I will say is that um
- 3:24the the
- 3:26the element of
- 3:28time, if it wasn't already obvious
- 3:30through the Netflix series, is
- 3:33is important.
- 3:35That's fair. I mean, I think it makes
- 3:37sense. You did touch a clock.
- 3:40Right?
- 3:41>> of time, there's actually something I
- 3:42want to clear up.
- 3:45Oh goodness. I have to get my notes
- 3:47here. One moment.
- 3:48>> lose your coin, though. Don't lose your
- 3:49coin. Thank you. I'll set it right
- 3:50there. Okay. Okay, speaking of time,
- 3:56uh in the Netflix series, clearly there
- 3:59are
- 4:00some times shown.
- 4:02And I feel that
- 4:05there were a few Well, there were a few
- 4:06times that slipped in that were
- 4:09not by design. And so, I'm just going to
- 4:12eliminate those specific times
- 4:15uh to make things what I hope is
- 4:17clearer.
- 4:18I think Jim's going to fall out of his
- 4:20chair.
- 4:21>> [laughter]
- 4:22>> There are two times specifically that
- 4:26uh don't matter.
- 4:27And
- 4:29it's okay if you're off by a minute or
- 4:30so. I know it's a little hard to tell on
- 4:32that clock, so
- 4:34uh at approximately 4:02 p.m.,
- 4:38that does not matter.
- 4:41And at approximately
- 4:445:26 a.m. or p.m.,
- 4:46uh that does not matter, either.
- 4:49I hope that helps.
- 4:51I mean, how could it not, right?
- 4:54I also have uh some updated statistics
- 4:58that people may or may not be interested
- 5:00in.
- 5:00>> You know I love a good statistic.
- 5:02So, I think the last time I sent this
- 5:04out, boy, I don't recall when it was. It
- 5:06was
- 5:07pretty early in the hunt. And I I posted
- 5:10some stats, and I'll read them off here
- 5:12for a refresher, and we'll talk about
- 5:14what they're at now.
- 5:15Uh the number of people that have asked
- 5:17me to verify their solution
- 5:20before heading out,
- 5:22uh that was 24,101
- 5:25people.
- 5:27And the updated number as of
- 5:30last night,
- 5:32let's see if I can find the note.
- 5:34Where did I put that note?
- 5:38On your treasure hunt.
- 5:41My goodness.
- 5:44There it is.
- 5:45Uh it is now at uh 277,428.
- 5:51Oh my gosh.
- 5:53Uh the next statistic,
- 5:55uh the the number of people that have
- 5:57conveyed to me they are 100% sure
- 6:02they know where the treasure is.
- 6:06Um I
- 6:08to be fair, I I
- 6:09I appreciate the confidence. That's
- 6:11That's really cool.
- 6:12Uh
- 6:13it was uh 13,388
- 6:16people.
- 6:18And as of last night, it is now
- 6:22119,644.
- 6:28Half of those people have also told me.
- 6:32>> [laughter]
- 6:35>> Uh
- 6:36the next one was uh bribe attempts. Oh.
- 6:41That stood at 32.
- 6:44We are now at
- 6:471,221.
- 6:51I appreciate the effort, you guys. I
- 6:53mean,
- 6:55a lot of
- 6:55>> [laughter]
- 6:56>> a lot of enthusiasm. Um
- 7:00uh blackmail attempts.
- 7:02Uh that was at three.
- 7:05We are now at uh 80.
- 7:07Oh, wow.
- 7:09Uh again, valiant effort. Valiant
- 7:11effort. Uh
- 7:14tracking attempts. This is a new
- 7:15category
- 7:17uh that didn't exist.
- 7:18Uh that is at 19.
- 7:21Oh, wow.
- 7:22Uh search and rescue operations. Uh
- 7:26unfortunately, people that have required
- 7:28uh search and rescue assistance,
- 7:30uh that was at one.
- 7:32And uh we've grown a little bit since
- 7:34then. Uh it's at 16.
- 7:37People.
- 7:39We We're smarter than this.
- 7:41Um I think it's exuberance um and I can
- 7:44relate, so.
- 7:46Uh anyway, updated stats, there you have
- 7:48it. There we go.
- 7:51Well, we're not going to bribe you
- 7:52today. We're just going to ask nicely.
- 7:53How about that?
- 7:55I appreciate the honesty. Uh I'm here
- 7:57for you.
- 7:58At which stanza does boots on the ground
- 8:01become absolutely required? Meaning,
- 8:04no amount of at-home research or mapping
- 8:07can substitute for being physically on
- 8:09site.
- 8:11We're going to go to the book for this
- 8:12one.
- 8:20Sure. He's going to read be reading
- 8:21that. Let me read to you.
- 8:23At which stanza does boots on the ground
- 8:26become absolutely required? Meaning, no
- 8:30amount of at-home research or mapping
- 8:33can substitute for being physically on
- 8:35site.
- 8:37It's kind of a big one, and it looks
- 8:38like he might answer it.
- 8:40This is a very specifically worded
- 8:43question.
- 8:49One more time. I want to make sure I get
- 8:50it right.
- 8:51>> have it as many times. I'll keep reading
- 8:52it.
- 8:53At which stanza
- 8:56That means paragraph, just so you know.
- 8:58does boots on the ground become
- 9:00absolutely required? Meaning, no amount
- 9:04of at-home research or mapping can
- 9:07substitute for being physically on site?
- 9:10Stanza four.
- 9:13Write that down, Jim.
- 9:16Hey.
- 9:18That was huge.
- 9:19Is checkpoint
- 9:21is the checkpoint a physical object that
- 9:24can be moved?
- 9:28Yeah, I told myself tonight I'm going to
- 9:30try to not punt on any question. Oh
- 9:32gosh, I hope
- 9:35This is um
- 9:38>> [clears throat]
- 9:43>> I'll say that it's it's not something
- 9:45you need to worry about.
- 9:47Okay, you don't have to worry about it.
- 9:52But there was somewhere you said you
- 9:54were going to clarify the checkpoint in
- 9:56a in a recent interview. I think it was
- 9:58X marks the spot, wasn't it?
- 10:01What what specifically was I going to
- 10:02clarify? Refresh my memory.
- 10:05You said
- 10:07Okay, I'll pull it up. Jim, text me.
- 10:10Okay.
- 10:12Is the Is the something we find along
- 10:15the way something you placed there or
- 10:17something that was already there?
- 10:24Both.
- 10:26>> [clears throat]
- 10:27>> Oh my gosh, I love these answers.
- 10:30Sure. Is the something you we find along
- 10:33the way something you placed there or
- 10:35something that was already there?
- 10:40Okay.
- 10:42Are the majority of the hunt items and
- 10:45locations located in the same state /
- 10:49county
- 10:50as the actual treasure location?
- 10:55You know,
- 11:00I think about the Forrest Fenn treasure
- 11:01hunts and pretty much any treasure hunt
- 11:03and it seems that it's almost like
- 11:05sports teams form.
- 11:07I'm team Montana.
- 11:09I'm team Wyoming. I'm team New Mexico.
- 11:13Uh I've always found that interesting.
- 11:15Um they are somewhat arbitrary lines on
- 11:18a map.
- 11:19Uh
- 11:21So I I would just generally be less
- 11:24concerned about the borders.
- 11:28I mean it is beyond the map's edge,
- 11:29right? That sounds like an edge.
- 11:32Okay, I understand the photographs in
- 11:35the book reflect your life and therefore
- 11:37provide general context. My question is
- 11:41were any of the photographs, not
- 11:44illustrations, placed to function as
- 11:46explicit clues, meaning
- 11:49they contain specific deliberate
- 11:52information meant to help solve or
- 11:55interpret the poem?
- 11:57I think they are useful, yes.
- 12:00Oh my gosh.
- 12:04I I can. I hope I'm not reading too
- 12:06quickly. I'm trying to be very
- 12:08I'm trying to annunciate a lot for you.
- 12:10I understand the photographs in the book
- 12:13reflect your life and therefore provide
- 12:16general context. My question is were any
- 12:20of the photographs, not the
- 12:22illustrations, placed to function as
- 12:25explicit clues, meaning they contain
- 12:28specific deliberate information meant to
- 12:32help solve or interpret the poem?
- 12:38Okay.
- 12:40Justin, you said "As hope surges clear
- 12:43and bright" is the first actionable
- 12:45clue.
- 12:46You haven't specified, but what is the
- 12:48last actionable clue?
- 12:52Let me check. To the book.
- 12:58See, I should have just bookmarked that
- 13:00page.
- 13:03Does that book have a bookmark in the
- 13:04front? No?
- 13:05No. Okay, sorry.
- 13:08Uh which stanza has the last actionable
- 13:12clue?
- 13:13>> clue, but what is the last actionable
- 13:15clue?
- 13:26I don't want to cop out answer.
- 13:28Uh it does somewhat depend and depending
- 13:31on your interpretation, it's either
- 13:33stanza
- 13:34four or five.
- 13:36Okay.
- 13:40Okay, I'll behave.
- 13:42Yeah.
- 13:43>> [laughter]
- 13:44>> For the first time in my life. Um you've
- 13:47said the first Oh, wait, I just read
- 13:48that. Did you make the container
- 13:50yourself?
- 13:54I
- 13:58It's probably more accurate to say that
- 13:59I
- 14:02I made targeted
- 14:04and deliberate modifications.
- 14:08My gosh, these answers are so good.
- 14:11Okay. Is the number 42 relevant to
- 14:14finding the treasure?
- 14:16>> [laughter]
- 14:19>> Um
- 14:20I I I guess the short answer is yes.
- 14:23That's a pretty short answer. And I like
- 14:25it.
- 14:26Has any searcher or searchers been in
- 14:29the small kitchen-sized area where the
- 14:31treasure is hidden?
- 14:38To my uncertain knowledge, no. Oh, okay.
- 14:44Has the container been correctly
- 14:46guessed, but the cipher just has not
- 14:48been solved correctly?
- 14:52There have been people who have guessed
- 14:54what the
- 14:55container is uh correctly.
- 14:58Bravo. Not you, Jim.
- 15:02You knew that was coming.
- 15:03>> [laughter]
- 15:05>> Do you have the ability to view
- 15:06searchers if they are near the treasure?
- 15:09I am going to punt on that question. Um
- 15:13I'm sorry. No.
- 15:18They want
- 15:19>> Do you have the ability to view
- 15:22searchers if they are near the treasure?
- 15:26Punt.
- 15:27There you go.
- 15:29The first punt, boys and girls, that's a
- 15:30lot of questions answered so far.
- 15:36Does her face belong to the bride?
- 15:41Does her face belong to the bride?
- 15:49That sounded like Sandal. It did sound
- 15:51just like Sandal.
- 15:59Depending on your interpretation,
- 16:05yes.
- 16:06Uh but you know, there are actually two
- 16:08different ways to interpret this and the
- 16:11answer depends. So it's a no or yes. I
- 16:13know that's a strange answer, but that
- 16:14is correct.
- 16:16Way to confuse us, JP. Way to confuse
- 16:18us.
- 16:19So I What I heard was yes, no, maybe so.
- 16:22Yeah. Okay.
- 16:24I work Okay, perfect. So good at
- 16:26interpreting these words.
- 16:28Um
- 16:29Go ahead. Actually, I'm I'm going to
- 16:31revise I I think it's probably fair to
- 16:33just say yes there. Yes. Oh goodness,
- 16:35there you go.
- 16:37Okay, are the place and the sacred space
- 16:41the same location?
- 16:46Not necessarily.
- 16:48Okay.
- 16:51Does return her face imply a physical
- 16:55rotation?
- 17:02Guys are killing me here.
- 17:04Don't you wish you didn't say that you
- 17:06were thinking about not punting earlier?
- 17:12Repeat it one more time. Okay.
- 17:17Does return her face imply a physical
- 17:21rotation?
- 17:24Boy, that's a semantically challenging
- 17:26question.
- 17:28Welcome to treasure hunting.
- 17:31And people might rake me over the coals
- 17:33for this one later. Um
- 17:36but the the
- 17:38the technically correct answer is yes.
- 17:41Okay.
- 17:44Is the cipher contained in a single
- 17:47section of the book or across multiple
- 17:51sections?
- 17:53Who says the cipher's in the book?
- 18:00It's a good day.
- 18:03Do you need to move a rock or anything
- 18:05else to see the container and would a
- 18:07flashlight be useful during the day?
- 18:17Gosh, these are tricky questions.
- 18:20We've gotten a lot better.
- 18:21>> there's there's technicalities here that
- 18:23I
- 18:24uh that are a little I guess
- 18:26slightly nuanced.
- 18:29>> [clears throat]
- 18:31>> I mean I suppose
- 18:33depending on the conditions,
- 18:36technically yes, maybe a flashlight
- 18:39could be helpful.
- 18:41It's hard to say. I mean
- 18:44that that's a tough one.
- 18:46Uh what was the other part?
- 18:48Do you need to move a rock or anything
- 18:50else to see the container and would a
- 18:53flashlight be useful during the day?
- 18:59Um
- 19:04Uh something will be need Something will
- 19:06need to be manipulated in order to see
- 19:08the treasure.
- 19:10Oh.
- 19:13Are transition Are transitions between
- 19:16clues
- 19:18meant to represent movement across
- 19:20meaningful geographic separation
- 19:24or
- 19:25are they simply conceptual steps within
- 19:27the same area?
- 19:30One more time.
- 19:31>> I was about to say, should I read that
- 19:32bad boy again?
- 19:34Are transitions between clues meant to
- 19:37represent movement across meaningful
- 19:39geographic separation or are they simply
- 19:43conceptual steps within the same area?
- 19:46This is another one of those questions
- 19:47that are toughly worded.
- 19:50That's fair. Hmm, um
- 19:58Gosh.
- 20:00I feel like I'm kind of hosed no matter
- 20:01how I answer this.
- 20:12I wonder who that was. I can't imagine.
- 20:16Thank you, cousin Lori.
- 20:18>> [laughter]
- 20:19[sighs and gasps]
- 20:20>> Um
- 20:21I mean, it's
- 20:25Each clue
- 20:27in the poem
- 20:31is not meant
- 20:33to convey
- 20:34great distance.
- 20:39Oh, wow.
- 20:41Does the hole referenced in the poem
- 20:44correspond to a place that actually
- 20:47includes hole in its name? Ergo, Jackson
- 20:51Hole or Big Hole River?
- 20:54That's an on-the-nose question. Um
- 21:00>> I got to punt that one. I'm so sorry.
- 21:02Sometimes you got to punt.
- 21:05How many searchers have sent you a photo
- 21:08of the correct checkpoint?
- 21:15Zero.
- 21:16>> [sighs]
- 21:18>> Oh my gosh, I want to do follow-ups.
- 21:20Okay, you mentioned there's another book
- 21:22that could help you find your treasure.
- 21:25Is that book your grandfather's memoir?
- 21:27If so, he speaks a lot about vantage
- 21:30points overseeing people and places. Did
- 21:33you incorporate that into your hunt?
- 21:37Did I incorporate vantage points into my
- 21:42>> about a question.
- 21:43What if I read it again? Okay. Let's do
- 21:45that. Okay, you mentioned there's
- 21:48another book that could help you find
- 21:50your treasure.
- 21:51Is that book your grandfather's memoir?
- 21:53That's really the first question of the
- 21:55two here.
- 22:00That is a little too specific, so Okay,
- 22:03so then here's the fun follow-up.
- 22:07I just lost the question. Hold on.
- 22:09How could I lose a question when it's on
- 22:10the website?
- 22:12>> [laughter]
- 22:13>> Found it.
- 22:15If so, he speaks a lot about vantage
- 22:17points overseeing people and places. Did
- 22:20you incorporate that into your hunt?
- 22:24Did I incorporate vantage points into my
- 22:27hunt? Um
- 22:35That's that's a weird one to answer,
- 22:36too. I mean
- 22:41the
- 22:44There is a I guess you could say a
- 22:45vantage point involved.
- 22:49Um
- 22:50But it's not that any of the clues are
- 22:52necessarily
- 22:54talking about that vantage point.
- 22:56Okay.
- 22:58I figured out why the question moved.
- 23:00It's cuz apparently I just upgraded I up
- 23:02arrowed it. Oh. Like how could it have
- 23:03moved?
- 23:04>> You up voted it. I up voted it, so it's
- 23:06good.
- 23:07Would a solver make more progress by
- 23:09searching for hidden thematic or
- 23:11symbolic rules governing the poem or by
- 23:14treating it more like Forrest Fenn's
- 23:16poem where carefully but largely literal
- 23:19interpretation of each line leads the
- 23:21way?
- 23:24Probably roughly both in equal measure.
- 23:29Okay.
- 23:35I don't like that look.
- 23:37If we don't hit 2,000
- 23:42>> [laughter]
- 23:42>> I know where this is going.
- 23:45What are the two states you would have
- 23:47eliminated?
- 23:50Thank god he said he's not going to
- 23:52punt, right?
- 23:54>> [cheering]
- 23:56>> Oh, boy. This is a tough moment for your
- 23:58moment for your friend.
- 23:59>> I I think better when I pace. It's going
- 24:01to have to be
- 24:02>> all the time you need.
- 24:06>> [cheering]
- 24:13>> God, I love you people.
- 24:29>> [cheering]
- 24:35[cheering]
- 24:43>> Where are these bribers when we need
- 24:45them?
- 24:47Okay,
- 24:48um
- 24:53Who was that?
- 24:56An easy and a hard one.
- 24:57Uh
- 24:58>> [laughter]
- 24:59>> Ah,
- 25:00all right, let's do this. LET'S DO THIS.
- 25:03>> [cheering]
- 25:08>> OKAY,
- 25:09UH YOU KNOW, I
- 25:11wasn't prepared for this question.
- 25:13I really didn't think we're going to
- 25:14make 2,000. Now it was a kind of a trick
- 25:16>> He really didn't. He bet against me and
- 25:18he won and now I've lost and I feel sad
- 25:20about it, so I don't know what I've lost
- 25:22yet, but I feel like I'm going to pay.
- 25:26I'm glad you feel better.
- 25:28Okay, uh first state.
- 25:31Uh the the treasure
- 25:34and the treasure is not in Colorado.
- 25:40That's big.
- 25:41>> [cheering]
- 25:45>> And the second state.
- 25:48Uh
- 25:53I was not prepared for this.
- 25:56But in your gut
- 25:58there's probably a state
- 26:00that would really help.
- 26:04That you'd feel so good tonight when you
- 26:06went to sleep about.
- 26:09And so would we. All right, um the
- 26:11treasure and all associated clues is
- 26:15not in Oregon.
- 26:17>> [cheering]
- 26:25[cheering]
- 26:32[cheering]
- 26:38[applause]
- 26:41>> If he just broke your heart, no he
- 26:43didn't mean it. I Okay. I feel like it's
- 26:46time for comic relief, so
- 26:48um
- 26:49I'm going to tell a short story.
- 26:51Thank you.
- 26:54And you can blame my cousin Lori for
- 26:57making me
- 26:58>> you asked me for?
- 27:00Okay, never mind. I might have a
- 27:01question later.
- 27:04We're so excited about the possibility.
- 27:05>> the story.
- 27:07Uh
- 27:09Netflix was coming to film at my house
- 27:11and it just so happened that within the
- 27:14prior month or so, as I was out of town,
- 27:16my sprinkler system died. And it was
- 27:20very hot. It was in Texas and uh
- 27:24pretty much everything around my house
- 27:25perished. Uh
- 27:27not almost nothing was spared. And
- 27:31the Netflix crew was still coming and
- 27:33there was an
- 27:35very good chance that they were going to
- 27:36be filming outdoors uh around my house
- 27:39and it was just kind of embarrassing,
- 27:41frankly.
- 27:43I struggled with what to do about this
- 27:46and I hatched this genius plan.
- 27:49Um
- 27:50And that plan consisted of
- 27:52This actually exists. Uh
- 27:54um
- 27:56a biodegradable
- 27:58grass paint.
- 28:01I've heard of it.
- 28:03Uh and so I yeah, I whipped this up and
- 28:06I thought, well, I'll just go out there
- 28:07and
- 28:09I
- 28:10paint a section of the grass cuz who
- 28:12does that, right? Uh and so I whipped up
- 28:14the the um
- 28:16it's like a pack you wear on your back
- 28:18and kind of like a weed sprayer. And I
- 28:20go out there and spray it.
- 28:21But it was so hot out and so I waited
- 28:23until like 2:00 in the morning. Plus I
- 28:25didn't really didn't want the neighbors
- 28:26seeing I'm painting my grass.
- 28:29That's the level of my vanity.
- 28:32And so I embarked on this
- 28:352-hour expedition to
- 28:39paint the grass and and it worked,
- 28:41right? And I had the
- 28:43flashlight out. I'm looking at this and
- 28:45I was like, wow, that looks really good.
- 28:48So I went back in feeling very proud of
- 28:49myself and I heard a noise and I
- 28:53realized that
- 28:54the sprinkler system that was fixed
- 28:56earlier that day had just turned on.
- 29:00And so with
- 29:02no hesitation, I pulled out my phone and
- 29:04it's one of those Rachio systems. You
- 29:06can control it, you know, and I hit the
- 29:07off button and it wasn't working.
- 29:11And I thought, oh my gosh, this I'm so a
- 29:13sweaty mess in the middle of the night.
- 29:15All my
- 29:16biodegradable paint is washing away. And
- 29:19so I made a run for it and I mean run.
- 29:23And I came tearing out the front door
- 29:26and
- 29:28Okay, well, I was going to leave that
- 29:30tidbit out, but
- 29:31>> was an important point. You should not
- 29:33have left that out.
- 29:34>> removed my clothes, so I
- 29:37I have my boxers on. Um
- 29:40And so I was in this full bore run and
- 29:42for whatever reason in that moment, I
- 29:45completely
- 29:47forgot
- 29:49about the large oak tree
- 29:52branch that was right about head height.
- 29:56And I hit that thing hard, like face
- 29:59first, and kind of close pinned myself
- 30:01and on the ground and
- 30:03knocked me out for a few seconds,
- 30:05knocked the wind out of me.
- 30:07And I woke up and I looked like the
- 30:08Jolly Green Giant. I was
- 30:12I was covered in green paint and the
- 30:14sprinklers were going on me and I crawl
- 30:17over and turn it off. I'm like, "What
- 30:18have I done?"
- 30:21And I came back to the house and I had
- 30:23this raging black eye. I mean, just I
- 30:25couldn't even open one eye.
- 30:27And I'm like, "Oh my gosh, Netflix is
- 30:29going to be here in 9 hours."
- 30:34And I recall if Jared is here, I think I
- 30:36sent a picture to Jared saying, "Would
- 30:39you mind if we reschedule?"
- 30:41Uh which uh actually the timing ended up
- 30:44working out for a number of reasons and
- 30:46we did end up rescheduling, so it was
- 30:47okay. Uh but yes, that is the the grass
- 30:51paint story. So, there you go.
- 30:57Do you still have that picture?
- 31:00I I have the picture of my black eye. I
- 31:04>> I think he should post it on his face or
- 31:06on his website. I think that'd be fun.
- 31:09Well, stranger things have happened.
- 31:11We'll see.
- 31:12>> [laughter]
- 31:13>> Back to the fun and unbelievably
- 31:15uncomfortable questions.
- 31:17Are national parks ruled out?
- 31:20Uh I'm not I'm not going to say yes or
- 31:23no to that, sorry. Okay.
- 31:27That just got bumped for some reason.
- 31:28Okay.
- 31:33The key to one direction lies in
- 31:34another. Does this relate to the
- 31:36asimuth?
- 31:40No.
- 31:41Oh.
- 31:43Lucky number 10 on the checkpoint
- 31:45questions.
- 31:46Is the checkpoint essentially
- 31:49to its core
- 31:51and finally connected related to a
- 31:54topographic feature?
- 31:58Wow, read that one again.
- 31:59>> I figured we were going to go for a
- 32:00double on that.
- 32:02Is the checkpoint essentially to its
- 32:05core and finally connected {slash}
- 32:09related to a topographic feature?
- 32:16Let me take a look at that. Good luck.
- 32:20And finally connected. That's really
- 32:23tricky wording. I'm not quite sure how
- 32:24to answer this. Um
- 32:29I mean, probably the most accurate
- 32:30answer based on how I interpret that
- 32:32question is uh
- 32:35yes, there is there is some implication
- 32:37there.
- 32:38Okay.
- 32:40Can you tell us how you know a searcher
- 32:43was near the checkpoint? Follow-up.
- 32:47Does it have to do You want to Oh, I
- 32:49thought you were going to answer in the
- 32:50middle. I'm like, "Okay." Does it have
- 32:51to do with the technology or similar
- 32:53concept as layer five via personal
- 32:56confession {slash} contact or something
- 32:58else?
- 33:00Shall I read that four more times?
- 33:02>> Yes, please.
- 33:02>> Okay, good.
- 33:04Can you tell I'm going to read the
- 33:05question and then I'll read the
- 33:06follow-up. Can you tell us how you know
- 33:08a searcher was near the checkpoint?
- 33:15I'm not going to say the exact way, but
- 33:17there are a number of ways that
- 33:19people have conveyed to me where they're
- 33:21searching. Uh that can be through
- 33:24email, it can be through messenger, it
- 33:26can be through Discord, I can see it on
- 33:29a uh a Facebook forum, I can see it uh
- 33:32in a number of different venues.
- 33:35And uh some additional avenues beyond
- 33:39that as well. And so, in one of those
- 33:43hemispheres or spheres, uh
- 33:46I have
- 33:47come to learn that at least or there
- 33:50have been more than one person that have
- 33:51been close to the checkpoint.
- 33:53The follow-up will help with this.
- 33:56Does it have to do with the technology
- 33:58or similar concept as layer five via
- 34:01personal confession {slash} contact or
- 34:03something else?
- 34:05It is true to say that layer five has
- 34:08some bearing on the treasure hunt.
- 34:11Okay.
- 34:13How many searchers
- 34:16Nope, that's what we've already asked
- 34:17that. It got moved down. Don't down
- 34:19arrow, guys.
- 34:20They're messing with you.
- 34:21>> I know. I'm like, "Don't you know I'm
- 34:23just trying to read like a big girl?" Um
- 34:26is there a specific Nope. Is it No, I'm
- 34:28just messing myself up. Is there a
- 34:30significant clue visible if the treasure
- 34:33seeker is standing 15 ft away from where
- 34:36the treasure container is buried buried
- 34:38or hidden?
- 34:40Okay.
- 34:41Is there a significant clue visible if
- 34:44the treasure seeker is standing 15 ft
- 34:46away from where the treasure container
- 34:48is buried or hidden?
- 34:51Tricky wording again. Boy.
- 34:54>> We're becoming known for it.
- 35:02The most accurate answer is
- 35:05no.
- 35:07Okay.
- 35:09You're going to love this question
- 35:11primarily because the answer is today to
- 35:13date, we have sold 1,006
- 35:17tickets between cash and the website.
- 35:25If we don't hit 11:11,
- 35:28what is the scene you would have
- 35:29eliminated from Golden Greek?
- 35:33I actually feel like we kind of did this
- 35:35earlier and that is the
- 35:38the lawyer's office, Carl's.
- 35:40Uh that that whole scene
- 35:42uh no intentional clues at all. That was
- 35:44just uh
- 35:46uh something that the crew did, you
- 35:48know, the Netflix crew, Jared and so
- 35:49forth, and I was had zero involvement
- 35:52and zero influence on that whole scene.
- 35:56Excellent.
- 35:58I didn't think we were going to get that
- 36:00one.
- 36:03His realm. Is he living or was he ever
- 36:06living?
- 36:10That depends on your perspective.
- 36:13Someday we're going to learn how to ask
- 36:15that question.
- 36:17When you ruled out a state, does that
- 36:19mean it's ruled out for clues {slash}
- 36:22stops along the way and or final
- 36:24location or would it only pertain to the
- 36:27only the final location?
- 36:29That is an excellent question.
- 36:33I'm going to read it again.
- 36:34Good job, Rogue.
- 36:36When you ruled out a state, does that
- 36:38mean it's ruled out for clues {slash}
- 36:40stops along the way and or final
- 36:43location or would it only pertain to
- 36:45only the final location? Who Who asked
- 36:48this question?
- 36:49>> That would be Rogue.
- 36:51Was it?
- 36:53Well, wherever you are, Rogue.
- 36:55>> there. Oh, I see.
- 36:58Um
- 36:59I'm glad you asked. And I don't want
- 37:02this to spin out of control in any way,
- 37:05so
- 37:06the when I say eliminate a state, I mean
- 37:09that
- 37:10you don't need to worry about it. Like
- 37:12there are no clues in that state,
- 37:15there's no treasure in that state.
- 37:17It's complete elimination.
- 37:21Oh, that's big.
- 37:23That's actually a big big big one in my
- 37:26opinion.
- 37:27You've mentioned it took multiple trips
- 37:29to inconspicuously hide the treasure.
- 37:32Was this achieved in a single day or
- 37:34multiple days? Summit rules say no
- 37:37punting.
- 37:38>> [snorts]
- 37:39>> Summit rules, huh?
- 37:41It's like Fight Club.
- 37:43Fight Club. I mean, who who am I to
- 37:45break Summit rules and and ask you to
- 37:47punt when you want to?
- 37:52The
- 37:53all of the trips
- 37:55to hide the
- 37:57the treasure
- 38:00were done within a 24-hour time span.
- 38:04Okay.
- 38:07Are the clocks part of the cipher?
- 38:11Are the clocks part of the cipher?
- 38:13>> Yes.
- 38:14Are the clocks part of the cipher?
- 38:19Are the clocks part of the cipher? Yes.
- 38:25Okay.
- 38:32I don't like that look.
- 38:34Was the animal scene one that made you
- 38:36feel free?
- 38:40Oh, fear. Sorry, fear.
- 38:42Was the animal that I saw
- 38:44>> remember how you talked about in I
- 38:46recall
- 38:46>> Sandal's episode. Was the animal scene
- 38:49on that
- 38:50one that made you feel fear? I read that
- 38:53wrong.
- 38:53>> Yeah. Mm.
- 38:56Uh no. The animal I did not I did not
- 38:59get any sense of fear in myself by
- 39:01seeing the animal, no.
- 39:05Okay. Oh, and for those that don't know,
- 39:07uh
- 39:08I know there's a lot of interviews and
- 39:09stuff out there. It's hard to keep up on
- 39:11this stuff, so
- 39:12>> [clears throat]
- 39:12>> what I mentioned in the interview
- 39:14actually with Sandal uh
- 39:17is that
- 39:19upon along the way of hiding the
- 39:21treasure
- 39:22hiding the treasure, I saw uh
- 39:25an animal that I had never seen before.
- 39:28And it was uh
- 39:30a very surprising experience to me. I
- 39:32felt uh
- 39:36I felt
- 39:37a lot of gratitude to see that. Um
- 39:40felt to me like almost like a
- 39:42once-in-a-lifetime thing.
- 39:44And uh anyway, that's that's the
- 39:46backstory. And no, I didn't feel any
- 39:48fear
- 39:50when I saw it. It was actually quite the
- 39:51opposite. But did you feel free? No,
- 39:53just kidding.
- 39:54Um
- 39:55during your interview on X Marks the
- 39:58Pod, a question at
- 40:0015 minutes and 8 seconds
- 40:02of possible trinkets that might be found
- 40:04along the way, you answered in the
- 40:07context of trinkets, there is something
- 40:09along the way that will help
- 40:11significantly. Would you elaborate?
- 40:16Boy, what else can I say? I mean, that
- 40:18was pretty valid though. Like, they had
- 40:19the timestamp, but
- 40:22Um
- 40:24wow, how how else to phrase this? Uh
- 40:30it's it's pivotal.
- 40:33It's pivotal to your
- 40:36to your journey.
- 40:40Are the ancient gates a very obvious
- 40:42location, or is it possible to locate
- 40:45the bride without being certain of the
- 40:47ancient gates' location?
- 40:50Hm.
- 40:51I think it would be a little strange
- 40:54for you to discover
- 40:57the bride without understanding
- 41:00the gates.
- 41:08Is it possible for a searcher who is
- 41:10actively working on the hunt and boots
- 41:13on the ground for their solve to be at
- 41:15the checkpoint location and not
- 41:18recognize it?
- 41:21I suppose that depends on how close you
- 41:23are to the checkpoint.
- 41:27I I don't mean to be obtuse.
- 41:30Sorry.
- 41:31I hear you say no.
- 41:32>> [laughter]
- 41:33>> Uh but it is the it is the correct
- 41:35answer. Yeah.
- 41:37Do your rules rule out railroad tracks?
- 41:40Do the rules rule out railroad tracks?
- 41:46Uh which rule in particular are we
- 41:48talking about?
- 41:49>> suspect the man-made part is what
- 41:50they're going for. I see.
- 41:53Yeah, [snorts] I mean, I think we I I
- 41:54talked a little bit about this concept
- 41:56of it's it's true to say that some
- 41:59people could interpret one of the clues
- 42:01as having a man-made implication
- 42:05uh depending on how you interpret the
- 42:06poem.
- 42:07Um but it is it is um
- 42:11uh I think based on how the rules are
- 42:13described, uh railroad tracks are are
- 42:16ruled out.
- 42:18Yeah.
- 42:19Do you need to move any rocks?
- 42:22Do you need to move rocks? Any rocks?
- 42:25Any rocks?
- 42:27Uh I'm
- 42:28I'm going to I'm going to punt on that
- 42:30one. Oh. Yeah.
- 42:33What pep talk would you give to a seeker
- 42:36who is very close to either the
- 42:38checkpoint or the location? I feel like
- 42:40I know who asked this question.
- 42:44Hm. Tell me who you think it is, and
- 42:45I'll tell you if you're right.
- 42:50At the risk of sounding cliché,
- 42:53uh
- 42:55the night is darkest before the light.
- 42:58And if you are confident
- 43:02in the location which you're searching,
- 43:05I see little reason to stray.
- 43:08Uh but I suppose it really boils down to
- 43:11how you built that confidence.
- 43:16Are there any clues in the Tucker poem?
- 43:21That's a pointed question. Are there any
- 43:23clues in the Tucker poem?
- 43:32Uh I mean, I think a reasonable person
- 43:34would say
- 43:37that
- 43:39that poem is helpful.
- 43:43You've met Oh, see.
- 43:51Would the clock in the documentary have
- 43:53been as equally effective if the numbers
- 43:56on the face were not Stop up roaring.
- 44:00Were were not Roman numerals? Was the
- 44:02using Roman numerals purposeful? I see.
- 44:05So, just to rephrase to make sure I
- 44:07understand, uh were the the numbers on
- 44:10the clock
- 44:11um
- 44:12Were the Roman numerals helpful, or did
- 44:14it matter?
- 44:18>> It makes no difference whether or not
- 44:20the clock had Roman numerals or uh
- 44:23traditional digits in the American
- 44:25culture.
- 44:31Are numbers in the poem ever indirectly
- 44:34encoded? Ergo, word play, homophones, or
- 44:38hidden within words? And if so,
- 44:42does this assist either directionally
- 44:44and or
- 44:46help with measured paces?
- 44:50All right, we're going to have to parse
- 44:50this one. Hold on.
- 44:51>> Okay. Let's go by Let's go point by
- 44:53point. Are numbers in the poem ever
- 44:56indirectly encoded?
- 44:58Are numbers
- 45:00in the poem indirectly encoded?
- 45:04Boy,
- 45:05uh indirectly, that's a tricky one.
- 45:08>> you options. Word play, homophones,
- 45:10Yeah, yeah.
- 45:11Well, so so Hold on. We're talking about
- 45:13numbers, but now we're talking about
- 45:14homophones. Are we talking about a
- 45:15homophone that represents a number?
- 45:18I mean, ergo.
- 45:20It's a tricky question.
- 45:23I'm not trying to be as too much of a
- 45:24stickler, but I know I know how this
- 45:26goes in the sense that afterwards people
- 45:28will pick this apart and say, "You said
- 45:30this." You know?
- 45:31>> [laughter]
- 45:31>> So, I want to make sure I get it right.
- 45:33You want to hear the second part again?
- 45:35Huh? You want to hear the second part
- 45:36again? So, let me let me just break it
- 45:38down a little bit, and I'll I'll try and
- 45:39answer it the best that I know how. Um
- 45:43Are there numbers indirectly associated
- 45:47with the poem? Regardless of what the
- 45:49question is, this is the one I'm
- 45:50answering. Okay. [laughter]
- 45:52Uh
- 45:53and I think
- 45:54uh the answer is is yes.
- 45:57And
- 45:59the other question about homophones and
- 46:00so on, I'm not going to touch that. But
- 46:02what was the other part? Okay, the other
- 46:04part is and if so, does this assist
- 46:07either directionally
- 46:09and or help with measured paces {slash}
- 46:12distance to the final locations while
- 46:14boots on the ground?
- 46:15Yeah, I mean, there there there is a a
- 46:17distance element in terms of following
- 46:19clues in the poem.
- 46:21Um
- 46:22but I'm not going to rule rule out
- 46:24things like homophones and whatever
- 46:27whatever else was mentioned.
- 46:28>> options. It was like word play, hidden
- 46:30numbers were hidden within words.
- 46:31>> No, I think I'd like to keep those in
- 46:33play. Okay.
- 46:34>> Yeah.
- 46:35I feel like you answered a big chunk of
- 46:37this earlier, but there's some
- 46:38specifics, so I'm going to read it.
- 46:40There are multiple word and numerical
- 46:42discrepancies between the book versus
- 46:44the audio {slash} ebook within specific
- 46:46sentences. Are these intentional? If so,
- 46:49can you This is long. If so, can you
- 46:52explain their significance whether
- 46:53they're related to the cipher {slash}
- 46:55container, physical boots on the ground
- 46:57solve, or part of the armchair solve
- 46:59prior to the boots on the ground? Here's
- 47:00your examples.
- 47:02Big hill mentioned in Idaho book versus
- 47:05Utah.
- 47:07Yeah. Doc's death,
- 47:091940 versus 1949.
- 47:12Running down the hill, 6 and 1/2 miles
- 47:14versus 3 miles.
- 47:16Grandpa Fitzwater's age, 83 versus 86.
- 47:20So, the
- 47:22for those [clears throat] that don't
- 47:23know, I I did publish an errata that's
- 47:25on the website treasure.quest,
- 47:28and it is a running tally of the things
- 47:29that people have found that were
- 47:32unintentional inaccuracies in the book.
- 47:34And I the the purpose of that is to make
- 47:37sure that people don't spend time on
- 47:38things that don't matter, that were
- 47:40truly just mistakes.
- 47:42And so, [snorts]
- 47:43I'd encourage you to look at that
- 47:44errata,
- 47:46and it's possible that people have maybe
- 47:49emailed me new things that should be
- 47:50part of the errata that I missed.
- 47:53Uh so, feel free to re-email those. But
- 47:56I I heard a couple specific ones here.
- 47:57There was a question around the
- 47:58discrepancy in my grandfather's age. Uh
- 48:01that is that is not intentional. It's If
- 48:05if it's there, it's a mistake.
- 48:06And then I think you mentioned something
- 48:08else around uh
- 48:09Utah versus Yeah, in the big hill
- 48:13in the book, it's Idaho, and in the
- 48:15audio, it's Utah.
- 48:16>> That was uh surprisingly an an audiobook
- 48:20uh narrator error.
- 48:22So, that is not intentional.
- 48:26Doc's death, 1940 versus 1949. If
- 48:29there's a discrepancy there that's not
- 48:31in the errata, it should be. So, it's
- 48:33not intentional. Last but not least,
- 48:35running downhill, 6 and 1/2 miles in the
- 48:37book versus 3 miles in the audio.
- 48:41Hm, let me take a look at that one.
- 48:46Uh that's interesting. I actually didn't
- 48:47know that existed. But if if there is
- 48:49that discrepancy, it is certainly
- 48:51unintentional. Not intentional.
- 48:53Okay.
- 48:55Does one need to be at the bride to
- 48:57identify her foot of three or some
- 48:59distance away?
- 49:05You
- 49:08You guys are tricky.
- 49:21One more time.
- 49:22Sorry. Does one need to be at the bride
- 49:25to identify her foot of three or some
- 49:28distance away?
- 49:35Uh
- 49:36>> [sighs]
- 49:36>> that's a hard to answer. Um
- 49:41You
- 49:42Ah, I you know, if if
- 49:46I guess it does make sense. Let me take
- 49:48one more look at it. Sorry, guys. I want
- 49:49to make sure I get this right.
- 49:51I should have looked at these questions
- 49:53beforehand.
- 49:55Yeah, you should have. Does one need to
- 49:58be at the bride to identify her foot of
- 50:02three
- 50:03or some distance away? No.
- 50:05There you go.
- 50:10Okay.
- 50:13When and where
- 50:16was the first place Brandon joined you
- 50:18on your boots on the ground search for
- 50:20Forrest's treasure?
- 50:22The first time Brandon joined me on
- 50:25the Forrest Fenn treasure was
- 50:29in Yellowstone.
- 50:31And it was at
- 50:33Iron Springs.
- 50:37Does the location of the treasure truly
- 50:38predate any of the locations you
- 50:40searched for the first Forrest Fenn
- 50:42treasure?
- 50:44No, I have not specified. I was thinking
- 50:47I hadn't heard that one.
- 50:49Does the location of the treasure Oh,
- 50:52wait, sorry. It moved again. Is the
- 50:54checkpoint location visible in Golden
- 50:56Greed?
- 50:57Is the checkpoint location visible
- 51:00in gold and greed?
- 51:04No.
- 51:07Okay. Ew,
- 51:08goodness. Not specifically, no. Is
- 51:10Shadowed sight from the perspective of
- 51:13the searcher a location or a concept?
- 51:17I'm going to have to look at that one.
- 51:21Is Shadowed sight from the perspective
- 51:25of the searcher a location or a concept?
- 51:37Both.
- 51:43This is so fun.
- 51:47When you were hiding the treasure, you
- 51:49said you saw an animal in the wild for
- 51:51the first time. Which animal class did
- 51:53it belong to?
- 51:56Which animal class did it belong to?
- 52:00Um
- 52:03It was mammalian.
- 52:07>> [laughter]
- 52:09>> I almost said something so bad.
- 52:11Um okay. What's your favorite story from
- 52:14your grandfather's book, Where the hell
- 52:17did you come from?
- 52:20Golly, there's a lot of good stories in
- 52:22there.
- 52:24I like the story about the time that he
- 52:29uh
- 52:30confronted a poacher
- 52:33at a cabin where they were having a
- 52:35poker game.
- 52:37And
- 52:38due to some belligerence, uh he was
- 52:41forced to bring this individual in and
- 52:44he started acting up in the car
- 52:46and they had a little bit of a a
- 52:48standoff, if you will.
- 52:50Uh I think just that really encapsulates
- 52:53my grandfather in the sense that
- 52:55he was actually small in stature, uh
- 52:58especially compared to me.
- 53:00Uh and he was very good-natured
- 53:03uh until he wasn't. And there was a very
- 53:06clear line and
- 53:08you never had to guess which side of the
- 53:10line you were on.
- 53:12And uh I I just feel like that that
- 53:15story kind of personifies
- 53:17or really
- 53:18brings that out uh in his character. So,
- 53:21I I like the story.
- 53:25If someone locates the checkpoint, is it
- 53:28still available for others to find or is
- 53:30it something that can be taken and no
- 53:32one else can find?
- 53:35Yeah, I'm going to punt on that one.
- 53:42I think you might punt on this one, too.
- 53:46Where exactly is the location of the
- 53:47treasure?
- 53:50>> [cheering]
- 53:56>> Well, that's a question.
- 53:58I mean, that one seems very dis-
- 54:01succinct.
- 54:01>> Can I see that? Sure.
- 54:04Are you looking at who it is?
- 54:08Where exactly is the location of the
- 54:11treasure?
- 54:13I feel like I got that one out okay.
- 54:19I mean
- 54:23I mean, how exact do you want to be?
- 54:26I mean, it's on Earth.
- 54:27Uh
- 54:27>> [laughter]
- 54:28>> um
- 54:29I really don't know the right way to
- 54:31answer this. I'm just
- 54:32>> a really good video if you want me to
- 54:33help you.
- 54:34>> Oh, yeah? The American West. The
- 54:36American West.
- 54:44It's certainly not a place that you have
- 54:46to go many miles to find.
- 54:48Um
- 54:49I think what I've seen in the treasure
- 54:51hunt is
- 54:53uh
- 54:55you know, there there are a number of
- 54:56people that are
- 54:57are going pretty deep
- 54:59into the wilderness.
- 55:01And there are some people that are that
- 55:04are certainly taking
- 55:06uh risks.
- 55:08And this is
- 55:09really not something that you need to
- 55:11do. And I I know it's kind of
- 55:12subjective, like what what defines a
- 55:14risk.
- 55:15Uh but I do see people that
- 55:18uh are
- 55:19still repelling into caves and
- 55:22and uh
- 55:23uh looking on cli- you know,
- 55:25cliff sides and
- 55:27uh gosh, you you don't need rope.
- 55:30If you need rope, then it's the wrong
- 55:32it's not the right location.
- 55:35Um
- 55:38But yeah, I I know that doesn't at all
- 55:39answer the question, but it's the best I
- 55:41got.
- 55:41>> [laughter]
- 55:42>> I think that was pretty good
- 55:43considering.
- 55:51With many seekers in Tucson right now,
- 55:53some may try to locate your brother's
- 55:55memorial. How does that make you feel?
- 56:04When I wrote the book and this Netflix
- 56:07series came to pass,
- 56:09I knew that was a risk.
- 56:11And what I will say is that uh
- 56:15the area in which my brother's memorial
- 56:17is located is very rough country.
- 56:20And
- 56:21uh I do not suggest that anyone try to
- 56:25go there. And I think as I've conveyed
- 56:28before, the treasure is not in the
- 56:30immediate vicinity
- 56:32of that memorial.
- 56:34Um
- 56:37So, there's
- 56:38there's in terms of the treasure hunt,
- 56:40there's really no need to go to it.
- 56:45Okay. Thank you.
- 56:52In the poem Beyond the Map's Edge, are
- 56:55there any references to specific Native
- 56:58American legends?
- 57:01I have not specified.
- 57:03That's true, he hasn't.
- 57:06When you say you don't need to hike more
- 57:08than a mile to figure out where the
- 57:09treasure is at,
- 57:11is that from start to finish or just
- 57:13when you're when one is going and
- 57:15retrieving? What is the approximate
- 57:18hiking distance from the beginning to
- 57:20end of the poem?
- 57:25Uh I think the way that that I
- 57:26originally phrased it still stands. You
- 57:29certainly don't need to go more than a
- 57:30mile to figure out where the treasure's
- 57:31at. You're not going to be going many
- 57:33miles into the wilderness. This is meant
- 57:36to be a
- 57:38a somewhat kind of curated experience.
- 57:40Uh so,
- 57:43you know, I golly, you
- 57:46I mean, seriously, if you're getting to
- 57:47a point where you're needing to
- 57:50you know, drink many bottles of water or
- 57:52something like that, you're you're going
- 57:53too far.
- 57:55So,
- 57:56um
- 57:57it's actually, all things considered,
- 58:00uh the I mean, I I did it with a broken
- 58:03tibia. So,
- 58:05uh I mean, I was on the mend, but
- 58:09uh you you don't need to take any big
- 58:11risks here. I don't think that
- 58:12completely answers the question, but
- 58:14that's the best I got.
- 58:16Super close. Super close.
- 58:18What's one mistake you see participants
- 58:21consistently consistently make when
- 58:24interpreting clues? What mindset shift
- 58:27would help them improve?
- 58:29Uh I think it goes back to what I
- 58:30mentioned earlier in one of the
- 58:32sessions, and that is uh
- 58:35it might behoove people to
- 58:38uh
- 58:39take a Matt stance, Matt the editor. And
- 58:42what Matt mentioned is
- 58:44I
- 58:46he took his treasure hat off, right? And
- 58:49he he read the memoir as as a memoir.
- 58:52And no, you certainly don't need to read
- 58:54the memoir to find the treasure.
- 58:56Uh but for people that are having
- 58:58trouble and and needing more context and
- 59:01understanding of me and so on, which I
- 59:03think some understanding of me is
- 59:05important. Uh the memoir is helpful, and
- 59:08I think reading it as
- 59:10a memoir is useful.
- 59:13Uh
- 59:14And certainly there there you can read
- 59:16beyond that, and there I'm not saying
- 59:17that um you know, more semantic meaning
- 59:20of each of the the sentences isn't
- 59:22important, but uh I think it might be
- 59:25helpful for people to if you're getting
- 59:27in deep and you feel like you're going
- 59:28down many rabbit holes, probably the
- 59:30best reset is uh
- 59:33to just read it as a memoir.
- 59:37I like that.
- 59:39Is the hole in the poem the hint with
- 59:42the man-made implication?
- 59:44Let me take a look at that one. Yeah.
- 59:48Is the hole in the poem the hint with
- 59:51the man-made implication?
- 59:53No.
- 1:00:01What is your favorite childhood memory
- 1:00:03with your brother Brandon?
- 1:00:14Gosh, that's tough.
- 1:00:23This is going to sound strange.
- 1:00:25Um
- 1:00:27we used to build forts.
- 1:00:29Uh back
- 1:00:31behind the backyard and uh
- 1:00:35he was building a fort one day and I was
- 1:00:39spying.
- 1:00:40He didn't
- 1:00:41didn't know that I was watching and
- 1:00:44he was trying to build a bench
- 1:00:46and he had set up this
- 1:00:48kind of rickety ding metal metal thing
- 1:00:52and he sat on it and it it fell over.
- 1:00:56And it was the first time I heard him
- 1:00:58curse
- 1:00:59as a kid.
- 1:01:01Uh
- 1:01:02I won't repeat it here uh
- 1:01:04but
- 1:01:06he set that thing up it must have been
- 1:01:0817 times and sitting on it and falling
- 1:01:11over cursing and trying again and
- 1:01:14that replays in my mind.
- 1:01:19Um
- 1:01:21and I think it really
- 1:01:23it boils down to I think the resilience
- 1:01:26that he had even at a very young age. He
- 1:01:29was a very
- 1:01:30stubborn kid. Huh.
- 1:01:32But that's for whatever reason that one
- 1:01:35really sticks out to me and it's funny
- 1:01:37because I really wasn't involved. I was
- 1:01:38just an observer.
- 1:01:40Yeah.
- 1:01:44>> [applause]
- 1:01:51>> In an interview you were asked if you
- 1:01:53feel you could have used a different
- 1:01:56used a different words or phrase in the
- 1:01:59poem for greater clarification. Is bride
- 1:02:01one of those words?
- 1:02:03Let me take a look at that one.
- 1:02:04>> Yeah, I figured that was coming.
- 1:02:06In an interview you were asked if you
- 1:02:07feel you could have used a diff a
- 1:02:10different words or phrase in the poem
- 1:02:13for greater clarification. Is bride one
- 1:02:15of those words?
- 1:02:17Uh no, I'm I'm pretty pleased with that
- 1:02:19one.
- 1:02:24>> [snorts]
- 1:02:25>> For an optimal solve
- 1:02:27does the poem need to be read or
- 1:02:29rearranged in any way other than how
- 1:02:32it's represented on the website and in
- 1:02:35the book?
- 1:02:38Uh I'm not going to rule that out.
- 1:02:43Oh goodness.
- 1:02:44You mentioned earlier that the treasure
- 1:02:46location could be accessed
- 1:02:4930
- 1:02:50Oh, this has got to be somebody from
- 1:02:51another country. March 31st, 2025 at
- 1:02:538:10 p.m.
- 1:02:55Would people also have been able to
- 1:02:57locate the treasure at that time? They
- 1:02:59did like British time.
- 1:03:01I'm just going to reread this. Sorry, I
- 1:03:04I'm just making sure I want to get this
- 1:03:05right. Uh you mentioned earlier that the
- 1:03:07treasure location could be accessed
- 1:03:10March 31st, 2025 at 8:10 p.m.
- 1:03:14Would people also have been able to
- 1:03:16locate the treasure at that time?
- 1:03:19Uh and I think the answer is if you knew
- 1:03:22if you knew exactly where it was
- 1:03:25I you you could retrieve it.
- 1:03:28Um
- 1:03:29I'm not saying whether or not it would
- 1:03:32be
- 1:03:33easy, but it's possible.
- 1:03:37Is the bride a physical object like a
- 1:03:40river or mountain?
- 1:03:44Hm.
- 1:03:51Uh the bride is something that is
- 1:03:52visible.
- 1:03:55What is closer to the treasure, the
- 1:03:57checkpoint or where you figure out where
- 1:03:59the treasure is at?
- 1:04:01Oh my, let me take a look at that.
- 1:04:02Please do.
- 1:04:04What is closer to the treasure, the
- 1:04:06checkpoint or where you figure out where
- 1:04:09the treasure is at? Wait.
- 1:04:12That's a
- 1:04:13not quite sure I understand that
- 1:04:14question.
- 1:04:17I think the conjecture is that people
- 1:04:19think you say the checkpoint is a
- 1:04:21checkpoint in in one interview which
- 1:04:23there's a few out there you said
- 1:04:25that line. You said specifically the
- 1:04:27line
- 1:04:28where you figure out where the treasure
- 1:04:30is at as though the checkpoint wouldn't
- 1:04:32be that place.
- 1:04:34Um
- 1:04:36I'm struggling with how to answer this
- 1:04:37cuz I I'm not sure I totally understand
- 1:04:39the entirety of the question. Uh
- 1:04:42but the you know that the the the
- 1:04:43checkpoint is really a necessity in
- 1:04:45terms of finding the treasure. You'd be
- 1:04:46hard-pressed to
- 1:04:48uh to
- 1:04:50to get all the way without the
- 1:04:52without seeing the checkpoint.
- 1:04:55Yeah.
- 1:05:00When discussing the passing of Brandon
- 1:05:02in the documentary a B-roll clip of Red
- 1:05:05Mountain in North Phoenix is shown.
- 1:05:08Brandon was found in the Rincons west of
- 1:05:10Tucson. Was the Red Mountain clip chosen
- 1:05:13by the documentary crew as a fill-in or
- 1:05:16was it chosen specifically for the scene
- 1:05:18by Justin? That was B-roll that was
- 1:05:20chosen by the crew. I didn't have any
- 1:05:23influence or involvement in that.
- 1:05:26Is the location where you hid your
- 1:05:28treasure within 75 miles of the place
- 1:05:30where you searched for the Forrest Fenn
- 1:05:31chest?
- 1:05:3675 miles.
- 1:05:39Not 76.
- 1:05:44Um
- 1:05:4775 I searched a lot of places, guys.
- 1:05:51Uh so yeah, I mean it's it's it's true
- 1:05:53to say that at some point I had searched
- 1:05:56for the Fenn treasure within that
- 1:05:5775-mile
- 1:05:59radius. Yeah.
- 1:06:03Interesting.
- 1:06:07Is the location where you hid your Oops.
- 1:06:10How many hints clues hints/clues are in
- 1:06:13the stories in the book and not
- 1:06:15including the poem?
- 1:06:17Uh I have to read that.
- 1:06:19>> [snorts]
- 1:06:20>> How many hints/clues
- 1:06:22are in the stories in the book not
- 1:06:25including the poem?
- 1:06:27Uh I haven't counted them, but there are
- 1:06:29there are several.
- 1:06:31Uh and I also want to make sure that
- 1:06:33people understand
- 1:06:35the answer that I gave in the prior
- 1:06:37question
- 1:06:38because when I first heard about the
- 1:06:40Fenn treasure
- 1:06:42I
- 1:06:44I had a question for Forrest in terms of
- 1:06:46he said it was hidden in the Rocky
- 1:06:48Mountains and my question was is it any
- 1:06:51Rocky Mountain or is it the official
- 1:06:53Rocky Mountains?
- 1:06:54And so
- 1:06:56that led me down a whole other rabbit
- 1:06:58hole and thinking that my gosh, it might
- 1:07:01not actually be in the Rocky Mountains.
- 1:07:03Uh so
- 1:07:06I guess what I'm saying is I don't want
- 1:07:07someone to get the impression that
- 1:07:09necessarily I've you know eliminated a
- 1:07:11bunch of states or something like that.
- 1:07:13So
- 1:07:14Yeah.
- 1:07:17>> [snorts]
- 1:07:17>> Does "I wait for you to cast your pole"
- 1:07:19refer to a fishing pole?
- 1:07:21I have not specified.
- 1:07:25Is the hunt 24/7 accessible year round?
- 1:07:31Um
- 1:07:33is the hunt 24/7 accessible year round?
- 1:07:35I mean I suppose that would depend on
- 1:07:36your definition of accessibility, but it
- 1:07:38would be possible.
- 1:07:41Is double arcs on granitable the clue
- 1:07:43with the man-made implication?
- 1:07:46Hm.
- 1:07:48Uh punt.
- 1:07:49Yeah.
- 1:07:51Do you need to get your feet wet to
- 1:07:52obtain the treasure?
- 1:07:55You don't have to.
- 1:08:01I have so many follow-up questions.
- 1:08:04Is there a time travel element to the
- 1:08:07hunt?
- 1:08:08Sorry, time travel?
- 1:08:11Boy, that would be cool.
- 1:08:13>> [laughter]
- 1:08:16>> Uh not to my knowledge. No.
- 1:08:20Is all footage in the Golden Greedy
- 1:08:22documentary that you wished to be in the
- 1:08:25documentary actually in the documentary?
- 1:08:29Yeah, I'd be hard-pressed to think of a
- 1:08:30scene that didn't make it. Um there were
- 1:08:33I got I feel like I got really lucky.
- 1:08:35The universe was in
- 1:08:37in my my corner that
- 1:08:39that day when it came together because
- 1:08:42uh I everything that I really wanted to
- 1:08:44be included got included.
- 1:08:47Not sure how to take this one.
- 1:08:49The latest bribe
- 1:08:50a wrinkled $20 bill and I will take a
- 1:08:52picture with you. 10 square mile area is
- 1:08:55good enough. Don't want to be greedy.
- 1:08:59Um okay.
- 1:09:02>> [laughter]
- 1:09:04>> Uh
- 1:09:05I don't know what to
- 1:09:06what to say [laughter] to that one. I
- 1:09:09too don't even know what to think about
- 1:09:11that one.
- 1:09:13Do the states you've chosen Oh, the
- 1:09:15people who Do the states you've chosen
- 1:09:17for the summit event have anything to do
- 1:09:20with the treasure where the treasure is
- 1:09:22located?
- 1:09:23Well, I'm certainly not going to rule
- 1:09:24them out. Uh there was a lot of things
- 1:09:26that actually went into choosing this
- 1:09:28location. For those that are not aware,
- 1:09:30we were actually looking for a location
- 1:09:32that had easy access for everybody that
- 1:09:34was low cost, that had a preferably an
- 1:09:36international airport. You know, at some
- 1:09:38point we had looked at
- 1:09:41I mean, I think even a few people had
- 1:09:42thrown around places in Utah and even
- 1:09:45over in New Mexico. And then we also
- 1:09:48talked to people up in Phoenix. I think
- 1:09:51we got a quote for $83,000.
- 1:09:54>> $83,000 what? I think the highest we got
- 1:09:56was like 162. Yeah. So, not cheap.
- 1:09:59Venues are surprisingly expensive.
- 1:10:02And and so, that's how we actually ended
- 1:10:04up in the Tucson area is because the the
- 1:10:06price point is still pretty cheap for
- 1:10:09everybody to come in and accommodations
- 1:10:11were reasonable. And we were not
- 1:10:13conflicting with the Gem and Mineral
- 1:10:14Show, which is a huge huge thing here.
- 1:10:17And actually, funny story, originally we
- 1:10:20booked at Old Tucson Studios.
- 1:10:23And I thought that would have been a
- 1:10:24really fun venue as well. And uh
- 1:10:28I feel like we got a little lucky in the
- 1:10:30sense that we didn't expect this heat
- 1:10:31wave this early. Yeah. And much of Old
- 1:10:33Tucson Studios is outdoors.
- 1:10:35But they actually double-booked. And so,
- 1:10:38they had to back out. And
- 1:10:41thankfully, the Expo Center was
- 1:10:42available and the air conditioning
- 1:10:43worked out great. So, here we are. I do
- 1:10:45love it. I love the air conditioning.
- 1:10:53>> [snorts]
- 1:10:54>> Would a snorkel be helpful in this
- 1:10:56treasure hunt?
- 1:10:58Would a snorkel be helpful? Wow.
- 1:11:01Sounds dangerous. No.
- 1:11:03A vehicle snorkel or are we talking
- 1:11:07a human snorkel? But
- 1:11:09They did not specify.
- 1:11:10>> Words matter.
- 1:11:12I'd say generally no.
- 1:11:15If you're going snorkeling, please just
- 1:11:18and looking for the treasure, just
- 1:11:19don't.
- 1:11:20>> [laughter]
- 1:11:21>> Not needed.
- 1:11:22Has the third stanza of the poem been
- 1:11:25solved? Let me take a look.
- 1:11:29I want to make sure I get this right.
- 1:11:31Third stanza. In Ursa East
- 1:11:34his realm awaits. His bride stands
- 1:11:37guarded at ancient gates.
- 1:11:40Her
- 1:11:42foot of three at 20° returned her face
- 1:11:44to find the place. A part of this stanza
- 1:11:46has been solved.
- 1:11:49Yeah.
- 1:11:50At least part.
- 1:11:52Has anyone figured out where or what the
- 1:11:54hole is in the poem?
- 1:11:58Yes.
- 1:12:01You said that up to halfway of the
- 1:12:03second stanza of the
- 1:12:05Pretty much you just answered this. But
- 1:12:06I'll read it anyway. You said that up to
- 1:12:07halfway of the second stanza of the poem
- 1:12:09has been solved. If so, can you say how
- 1:12:11many more clues have been solved?
- 1:12:15You know, it's
- 1:12:16different clues Some different clues
- 1:12:18have been solved from different people.
- 1:12:20You know, if I look at the
- 1:12:22say the the person that I'm aware of in
- 1:12:24the world that has solved the most
- 1:12:28of this, I would say that they've solved
- 1:12:30at least
- 1:12:35at least six clues.
- 1:12:38Justin, how exhausting is it to have
- 1:12:41cryptically cryptically Wait. How
- 1:12:44exhausting is it to have to cryptically
- 1:12:45answer question after question about
- 1:12:47your hunt? Will you miss that or be
- 1:12:49relieved after the hunt ends?
- 1:12:52Huh.
- 1:12:54You know, I
- 1:12:55these [clears throat] Q&A sessions are
- 1:12:57are kind of interesting to me cuz I
- 1:12:59I do like to think on my feet and it's
- 1:13:02it's it's kind of a fun challenge to
- 1:13:03make sure that I answer this the best
- 1:13:05way that I know how.
- 1:13:06Um
- 1:13:08But yeah, I mean, I suppose over time it
- 1:13:09gets a little little taxing at times,
- 1:13:11but I'm still having a lot of fun with
- 1:13:13it and I hope you guys are too.
- 1:13:17>> [applause]
- 1:13:20>> Have you ever seen a wolverine in the
- 1:13:22wild?
- 1:13:24Was that Cynthia?
- 1:13:26Yes, I have.
- 1:13:27Yes.
- 1:13:34Is Shadowed Sight from the perspective
- 1:13:36of the searcher a location We already
- 1:13:38have that. They got down arrowed.
- 1:13:41I guess they didn't like that question.
- 1:13:45Ooh. Do you have a solution for the
- 1:13:47harmful effects of data centers? How do
- 1:13:49we balance technology and nature? Wow.
- 1:13:53Uh
- 1:13:55That's different. I like it. Uh so, I
- 1:13:57actually think data centers are a very
- 1:13:58temporary problem.
- 1:14:00And what we're seeing right now is all
- 1:14:01across the country, there's these land
- 1:14:03grabs and we're seeing a lot of concern
- 1:14:05about these big data centers rolling out
- 1:14:07and all this energy that they're going
- 1:14:08to be using.
- 1:14:10And it's true. It's that is concerning,
- 1:14:12but
- 1:14:14I maybe have a radical viewpoint on
- 1:14:15this, but I think within the next 5
- 1:14:17years we will actually have the world's
- 1:14:19first data centers in space.
- 1:14:22And that actually solves our problems in
- 1:14:25many regards. One is that it's optimal
- 1:14:27temperatures for data centers. You don't
- 1:14:29have to worry about the heating problem
- 1:14:31that we have right now, which is sucking
- 1:14:32up so much energy.
- 1:14:34And if you think about it, with the sun,
- 1:14:35we use less than 1 millionth of a
- 1:14:37percent of the sun's energy today.
- 1:14:40And if we are in space
- 1:14:42with
- 1:14:44appropriate technology, we can harness
- 1:14:46much more of what the sun has to offer.
- 1:14:48And so, we solve the energy problem
- 1:14:50almost overnight. And then the only
- 1:14:52thing left in space is how do you
- 1:14:53transmit the data back to Earth. And it
- 1:14:56turns out lasers are pretty good at
- 1:14:57that. And we actually have the
- 1:14:59technology to do that now. So, I think
- 1:15:01within the next 5 years it will be a
- 1:15:02solved problem. I know it's very
- 1:15:04concerning right now.
- 1:15:05But I think we're we're right at the
- 1:15:08inflection point of solving that.
- 1:15:13>> [applause]
- 1:15:13>> I love how when you talk tech, you get
- 1:15:15so enthusiastic.
- 1:15:18Okay, are there multiple meanings to
- 1:15:20Castor Pollux?
- 1:15:24I think people can interpret it in
- 1:15:26different ways, but there's only one
- 1:15:27correct interpretation.
- 1:15:32I heard that.
- 1:15:34Which one?
- 1:15:35>> [laughter]
- 1:15:35>> Sorry. You have said that there are no
- 1:15:38clues in the legal section. Is it
- 1:15:39correct then that the Angsar is not a
- 1:15:41clue?
- 1:15:45Yeah, so turns out that Angsar is in the
- 1:15:47legal section, isn't it? Um
- 1:15:50I
- 1:15:51I think the fairest answer is that
- 1:15:53the Angsar itself that appears in the
- 1:15:55legal section
- 1:15:57that that particular symbol is you can
- 1:15:59you can rule out because it's in the
- 1:16:01legal section. And for those that don't
- 1:16:03know, at some point somebody asked me to
- 1:16:05eliminate I think a chapter where um
- 1:16:08where there are no clues. And so, I
- 1:16:09mentioned probably the the the best one
- 1:16:11to eliminate is the legal lowdown.
- 1:16:13There's no intentional clues that I
- 1:16:15recall in that chapter and there's a
- 1:16:17little Angsar symbol that those are
- 1:16:19familiar with
- 1:16:20that resides in that chapter. And that
- 1:16:22very specific symbol is not
- 1:16:25Yeah, I mean, it's it's okay. You don't
- 1:16:26have to worry about that.
- 1:16:28But also pay attention to that chapter.
- 1:16:31Huh.
- 1:16:32Yes, please.
- 1:16:36How long of a period did you go without
- 1:16:38seeing a person when you were headed to
- 1:16:40the final location of the treasure?
- 1:16:44Yeah, so when I went to hide the
- 1:16:46treasure, it
- 1:16:47turns out it's actually really hard to
- 1:16:49be anonymous and private in the US.
- 1:16:52Even very simple things like driving to
- 1:16:54the store.
- 1:16:56It's not easy because you have a license
- 1:16:57plate and that license plate, there are
- 1:17:00many different cameras that see you
- 1:17:02along the way. And so, there is a record
- 1:17:04that develops.
- 1:17:06So, anonymous travel is very hard and I
- 1:17:10really wanted to be seen by the least
- 1:17:12amount of people possible. And so, my
- 1:17:14route was convoluted.
- 1:17:16It was very deliberate and
- 1:17:19very taxing, you could say.
- 1:17:21And I did it twice. And the first time
- 1:17:24was that kind of a dry run to make sure
- 1:17:26I kind of got the kinks worked out.
- 1:17:29Um
- 1:17:31But
- 1:17:32overall, extremely few people ever
- 1:17:36saw me along the way.
- 1:17:38And that's for a multitude of reasons.
- 1:17:40And in cases where people did see me, I
- 1:17:43was actually in skies.
- 1:17:46>> [laughter]
- 1:17:47>> That helped.
- 1:17:50Do I need a wizard staff during any part
- 1:17:52of the hunt?
- 1:17:54Every journey needs a good walking
- 1:17:56stick.
- 1:17:58Before we go on, I want to tell you that
- 1:18:00it's 7:08.
- 1:18:01Should we I can't remember what Jam,
- 1:18:05what was the How long were we supposed
- 1:18:06to go to?
- 1:18:087:40?
- 1:18:0920. So, we have 12 minutes. Okay.
- 1:18:10>> are troopers. I feel like I'm putting
- 1:18:12everybody to sleep here.
- 1:18:16Yeah, they I can't believe this whole
- 1:18:17first row is not out cold.
- 1:18:19Um if you've made a tangible progress,
- 1:18:22is the map in the book still useful or
- 1:18:24is it most useful in the beginning of
- 1:18:26the hunt? If you've made tangible
- 1:18:28progress, is the book and Is the map in
- 1:18:31the book still useful or is it most
- 1:18:34useful in the beginning of the hunt?
- 1:18:37I think it's a good I think it's a good
- 1:18:39primer.
- 1:18:41Yeah.
- 1:18:47What are you willing to elaborate about
- 1:18:49the structure logic {slash} logic of the
- 1:18:51poem as it guides you through the clues?
- 1:18:55There's nothing that I'm aware of that
- 1:18:57needs clarification right now.
- 1:19:00Dang. Okay. Thank goodness.
- 1:19:06>> [gasps]
- 1:19:07>> Say and answer a question you're shocked
- 1:19:11no one has asked pertaining to your
- 1:19:13hunt.
- 1:19:17And answer.
- 1:19:21That is a good one.
- 1:19:25Boy.
- 1:19:27I mean, I can think of a lot of
- 1:19:29questions.
- 1:19:30I'm just trying to decide which one.
- 1:19:33You're going to love the next question.
- 1:19:36Huh.
- 1:19:40I mean, you know, at this point in the
- 1:19:41in the in the treasure hunt, when I say
- 1:19:43that you know, I can think of a lot of
- 1:19:44questions, many people have asked many
- 1:19:47questions. And so, I'm I'm hard-pressed
- 1:19:50to say
- 1:19:51uh
- 1:19:55Boy, this is a tough one, guys. Hang on.
- 1:19:57Give me a moment.
- 1:20:01I need to pace again. I'm sorry.
- 1:20:08>> [laughter]
- 1:20:08>> Walk the size of a kitchen.
- 1:20:13Mhm.
- 1:20:17Sure, I'm glad to read it.
- 1:20:20Say and answer a question that you're
- 1:20:23shocked no one has asked pertaining to
- 1:20:26your hunt.
- 1:20:28So, basically, they're asking him to
- 1:20:30pick a question and answer it, but he
- 1:20:32hasn't ever had it before.
- 1:20:35You like that clarification? I I mean, I
- 1:20:37really like this. And I mean, I can I
- 1:20:39can think of actually one very specific
- 1:20:41question that would be extremely useful
- 1:20:43to ask, but
- 1:20:45if I pose it to myself
- 1:20:48uh
- 1:20:49It's actually something I can't pose to
- 1:20:51myself. Um
- 1:20:53but I know somebody actually out there
- 1:20:55probably already knows the question.
- 1:20:57Um
- 1:20:58and I'm keeping an eye out for it. So,
- 1:21:00we'll we'll stay tuned on that one. But
- 1:21:02I I uh I can think of a question.
- 1:21:05I'm sorry, I can't I can't verbalize it,
- 1:21:07though.
- 1:21:12Okay.
- 1:21:14This is Slow Stellar. We've asked you
- 1:21:17and one other thou- and one and other
- 1:21:20thousand questions.
- 1:21:21What are three to four different
- 1:21:23questions you would ask a seeker of your
- 1:21:26treasure that could help them understand
- 1:21:29the journey you've created and have
- 1:21:32embarked upon? If possible, please ask
- 1:21:35us at least one question related to
- 1:21:37boots on the ground, one related to the
- 1:21:39book, and one related to the poem, and
- 1:21:43one related to Golden Greed.
- 1:21:45Holy cow. Let me take a look at this.
- 1:21:47Slow Stellar. That was neither slow or
- 1:21:50stellar.
- 1:21:58What are three to four different
- 1:21:59questions you would ask a seeker of your
- 1:22:01treasure that could help them understand
- 1:22:03the journey you have created and we have
- 1:22:05embarked on?
- 1:22:07Um I you know, I
- 1:22:08I don't know if I'll do three to four,
- 1:22:10but I'll say that um
- 1:22:14in any for better or for worse
- 1:22:17in any treasure hunt, there is I don't
- 1:22:19like this term, but there is a creator.
- 1:22:22And
- 1:22:23every creator has motivations. They have
- 1:22:27a reason for doing what they do
- 1:22:30and something that that that drives
- 1:22:32them. And I think
- 1:22:34understanding that is important.
- 1:22:37Um
- 1:22:38no matter who is hiding a treasure. I
- 1:22:40mean, if you think about Forrest Fenn
- 1:22:42uh if you if you believe where the
- 1:22:45treasure was found at Nine Mile Hole
- 1:22:48he did it because of significance. And
- 1:22:50if you read the memoir as a memoir, I
- 1:22:53think a reasonable person who wasn't
- 1:22:55even looking for treasure could read
- 1:22:56that memoir and say, "Ah,
- 1:22:58you know what? That's a that's a
- 1:22:59recurring theme. That was important."
- 1:23:01Um
- 1:23:02and so, I'd say
- 1:23:04uh intent and understanding a little bit
- 1:23:08about the the person that hid it is
- 1:23:11is part of is part of it. [snorts]
- 1:23:13Um and I wish I I could say like there's
- 1:23:15a way to hide a treasure where you have
- 1:23:16no bias at all uh from your say your
- 1:23:19upbringing or the experiences you had,
- 1:23:21but
- 1:23:22uh I I actually don't know if that's
- 1:23:23possible. So, I'd say that just
- 1:23:26generally, it's not really a question
- 1:23:27you should ask, but um
- 1:23:29a theme, I guess you could say. I don't
- 1:23:31know if that helps or not.
- 1:23:39Fenn specifically mentioned Nine Mile
- 1:23:41Hole in his book
- 1:23:43which the clues led to the area. Do you
- 1:23:46mention the area for the first
- 1:23:48actionable clue in your book or what? Is
- 1:23:51your book written as more of a theme or
- 1:23:54of the general area?
- 1:23:57Oh, I have sorry, got to look again.
- 1:23:59I mean, I couldn't read that twice.
- 1:24:04Do you mention the area? I mean
- 1:24:07I'm I think probably in the book I at
- 1:24:09least mention the American West, so it's
- 1:24:11in the American West. I mean, I you
- 1:24:13know, it's interpretation here. I'm
- 1:24:14trying. So, uh I'd say um the the the
- 1:24:18very specific
- 1:24:20area is is not mentioned, but
- 1:24:23there are times in the book where
- 1:24:26uh descriptions
- 1:24:28uh pertain to the area where the
- 1:24:30treasure is hidden.
- 1:24:34The dedication feels layered and very
- 1:24:37intentional. Could you walk us through
- 1:24:40how it came together, when you wrote it,
- 1:24:42the headspace you were in at the time,
- 1:24:44what influences shaped it, what you
- 1:24:46hoped it would convey, and whether it
- 1:24:48was meant to acknowledge someone or
- 1:24:50something specific or something more
- 1:24:52symbolic?
- 1:24:54Yes. Uh the dedication was actually
- 1:24:56probably the last thing that I wrote.
- 1:24:58Actually, that's not true. It was the
- 1:24:59legal stuff.
- 1:25:01Uh but the dedication was the most the
- 1:25:04last meaningful thing that I wrote. And
- 1:25:06it is layered and it is intentional.
- 1:25:09Um
- 1:25:10the headspace that I was in was a a time
- 1:25:13of reflection and a time of what's to
- 1:25:17come. I was on the precipice of things
- 1:25:18really coming together. Uh I was
- 1:25:21certainly nervous about it, but uh yeah,
- 1:25:23it was really about reflection. And the
- 1:25:26influences that shaped it uh and and
- 1:25:29what I hoped to convey
- 1:25:31I mean, I think it's pretty clear that I
- 1:25:33am talking about a
- 1:25:35a person
- 1:25:36in that dedication. I
- 1:25:38I'm not going to say who that that
- 1:25:40person is, but it is somebody that is
- 1:25:43uh
- 1:25:45uh that is very special to me.
- 1:25:48And
- 1:25:50important in my life
- 1:25:52and I felt that it was an injustice not
- 1:25:54to do so.
- 1:26:03>> [laughter]
- 1:26:03>> You sent it back to me at the top. Silly
- 1:26:06technology.
- 1:26:07Okay.
- 1:26:11Okay, I found it. Nice try.
- 1:26:13Can you tell us more about your first
- 1:26:15elk hunt?
- 1:26:17My first elk hunt? Yeah.
- 1:26:20Uh
- 1:26:22my my earliest recollection is actually
- 1:26:24going to the Mogollon Rim in northern
- 1:26:27Arizona uh actually with my stepdad and
- 1:26:29my mom uh
- 1:26:31and we we camped there and I actually
- 1:26:34didn't um hunt at that time. I
- 1:26:37I had bow and arrow. I was really
- 1:26:38terrible at it and I was probably I was
- 1:26:40definitely too young and weak to even
- 1:26:42have a compound bow, so it was
- 1:26:44uh
- 1:26:46more like just kind of shooting and
- 1:26:47archery and target practice. Uh but my
- 1:26:50my stepfather and the whole hunting crew
- 1:26:52were there and and it was an elk hunt.
- 1:26:54And that's that's the earliest
- 1:26:55recollection that I have.
- 1:26:58Could you talk a bit about the Wyoming
- 1:27:00map you're holding in Golden Greed and
- 1:27:02how those circled areas fit in your Fenn
- 1:27:05solve, especially since they didn't come
- 1:27:06up come up in your Dal or Dale article?
- 1:27:10Oh gosh, yeah. I mean I mean, I looked
- 1:27:12at hundreds of locations for the Forrest
- 1:27:15Fenn treasure and I'm sure there was
- 1:27:17some on that map that I had circled that
- 1:27:19I was I was excited about and uh
- 1:27:22boy, we'd probably be here all night if
- 1:27:24we started talking about all the
- 1:27:25locations that I searched, but uh there
- 1:27:27were certainly some circled on that map.
- 1:27:31Are there poem clues that reference or
- 1:27:33are related to the sport of golf?
- 1:27:36Uh let me read that one. Sorry.
- 1:27:38Are there
- 1:27:40poem clues that reference or relate to
- 1:27:43the sport of golf?
- 1:27:45I I haven't specified on that one.
- 1:27:50Oh, wow.
- 1:27:51We are in stre- instructed to walk near
- 1:27:54water silent flight, round the bend,
- 1:27:56past the hole. If the entire poem is
- 1:27:59understood, is it intended we walk
- 1:28:02without driving to the treasure location
- 1:28:04from where from here, where we are
- 1:28:06instructed to walk?
- 1:28:08Yeah, I'm I'm I'm not going to narrow
- 1:28:10that down, uh but you're not
- 1:28:14that that should probably be the
- 1:28:16it's probably the least of your concerns
- 1:28:18at that point.
- 1:28:21How deep is the dang hole?
- 1:28:25Sounds like Forrest.
- 1:28:27How deep is the dang hole? Uh deep
- 1:28:29enough.
- 1:28:33Following the rules of the area, can
- 1:28:35your dog physically walk the
- 1:28:37kitchen-size area without breaking them?
- 1:28:41Can the dog walk the kitchen-size area
- 1:28:43without
- 1:28:44>> breaking them? Without breaking them.
- 1:28:51I'm confused by the question.
- 1:28:52>> dog physically walk the kitchen-size
- 1:28:54area without breaking them? That is
- 1:28:56literally the words.
- 1:28:57>> without breaking the dog?
- 1:28:59Gosh, that sounds horrible. Uh dogs
- 1:29:01would be safe walking the area.
- 1:29:04Yeah. That's good.
- 1:29:05>> Oh, without breaking the rules. Oh, I
- 1:29:07didn't hear rules in there. Did I miss
- 1:29:08that?
- 1:29:09>> the rules of the area. Oh, following the
- 1:29:11rules of the area. See, this is a tricky
- 1:29:12one. And the reason I'm hesitant to
- 1:29:14answer these types of questions is
- 1:29:15because things can change. And if they
- 1:29:17change, then
- 1:29:19uh
- 1:29:20you know, people say, "Well, at this
- 1:29:21point, you know, you said this. And why
- 1:29:23did you say that?" And you know, I I I
- 1:29:25just try and avoid the conspiracy or
- 1:29:27discrepancies there altogether. And so,
- 1:29:29that's generally the reason why I'm
- 1:29:31hesitant about talking about whether or
- 1:29:32not you have to pay or whether or not
- 1:29:34you um
- 1:29:36uh you know, dogs are allowed or
- 1:29:37whatever rules pertain to that area
- 1:29:39because uh
- 1:29:40there's always a possible for change.
- 1:29:42And it's actually, I think for many
- 1:29:44types of land, uh
- 1:29:46more
- 1:29:47more uh likely than I think some people
- 1:29:49realize. And so, I'm just I'm generally
- 1:29:51hesitant to answer those questions.
- 1:29:53Um
- 1:29:55but to the best of my knowledge,
- 1:29:57and this will be the last time that I do
- 1:29:59this. Uh
- 1:30:00to the best of my knowledge, based on
- 1:30:02how the rules and regulations are today,
- 1:30:05I I am not aware of anything that would
- 1:30:07preclude you from
- 1:30:09having your dog with you.
- 1:30:13This is our last question. And then
- 1:30:15we're going to have a little hunt.
- 1:30:19Is East a portion within one Ursa, or is
- 1:30:23there a West Ursa and an East Ursa?
- 1:30:26Let me take a quick look. Yep. Is East a
- 1:30:29portion within one Ursa,
- 1:30:32or is there a West Ursa and an East
- 1:30:35Ursa?
- 1:30:36Huh.
- 1:30:37I'm
- 1:30:39You only need to worry about Ursa East.
- 1:30:43That's that's the simple way to look at
- 1:30:45that.
- 1:30:49So, that's our question.
- 1:30:50>> That's it. Okay.
- 1:30:52>> [cheering]
- 1:30:56>> Good job.
- 1:30:58We did it.
